As someone new to bead making, I read this book first and it clearly explains the tools and processes. After reading it, I was able to tackle this new skill with ease.It also features beautiful design illustrations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great first Book!
Very nice book with lots of information and good pictures. Very well organized book that goes into detail on making glass beads. To me this is the only book you need to get started in Lampworking. I especially enjoyed in each chapter the pictures of other artists beads as Cindy described how to make that type of bead. Certianly a book that I will refer to many times! Thanks for a great book Cindy!.....

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring springboard
So many beadmakers cite this book as the one that got them into the art of lampworking.I'm there with them.A friend loaned me this book about three years ago and we've been learning and having fun with glass and fire ever since. This is an *excellent* book to begin with.Clearly written and nicely photographed with plenty of variety in beadmakers' styles, this is a wonderful entry-level book.I've added other lampworking books to my shelves, but I would never give this one up.If my friend wants it back I'll just have to buy another. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The most comprehensive book on glass beadmaking
If you're interested in making lampworked/torchworked glass beads, this is the one book that you need to have on your shelf. It may not become your favorite bedtime reading, but it's an indispensable resource for answering the practical questions that you'll have. There's plenty of technical info, particularly on safety issues, but it's presented in a way that even non-science geeks can understand. There's also a gallery section of pictures of artists' beads, although this is primarily a book for practical information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing work by Mr. Kervin...
When reading through this book it's hard not to believe that this had to have taken Jim Kervin years to finish.I don't think he left out ONE thing. When it comes to molten glass, ... a virtual plethora of information. What a useful book to have around. If you can't find the answer to your glass question in this book, I'd be surprised.I highly recommend this book...it is always within arms reach.Well done!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for someone starting out in glass beadmaking
This book is invaluable for anyone interested in glass beadmaking, from beginner to experienced beadmaker. It goes from safety and studio setup to techniques used in creating various glass beads both using soft and hardglass. It highligths some methods for pulling cane and making murrini. Itis an all around excellent instructional book, but definately not a coffeetable book.

Nothing can take the place of hands on instruction andguidance, but with this book, a video or two (Crystal Myths Inc., GlassBeadmaking is helpful), common sense and some patience anyone can makebeautiful glass beads. Get this book and give it a try. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for hobbyists in chain making.
This book is so well-written, techniques so clearly illustrated, that a really great piece of jewelry can be turned out with little previous experience. It one of the best how-to books of its kind I have seen. For silversmithing beginners, it shows chains that can be made in your living room on a tray from fine silver wire, with a mini-torch, and requires no sophisticated soldering.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best jewelry books written
This book should be on every craftsperson's and metalworker's workbench!!It is thorough, detailed, and easy to follow. This is a wonderful book written by a gifted teacher and metalworker. If only Jean Stark would write more books, especially one on granulation and gold alloy metalsmithing...

5-0 out of 5 stars An exellent resource
Jean's book saves time! If you are a craftsman working in gold or silver just the ability to make a quick reference to wire guage and number of links per inch makes this book one of the most useful in the workshop. For the more experienced worker the basic instructions can easily lead on to more complex chain making. It really is one of the most stained, abused and distressed volumes on my shelf. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

We started counting all the uses for this little dynamo, but we stopped at 967. We like it for delicate tasks and finer work because it isn’t as powerful as its big brothers, so it’s easier to control. It’s light, extremely maneuverable, the switch is exactly where you want it and heck, it’s just plain fun to use. It’s perfect for jewelry, electronics, tiny woodworking crafts like dollhouse furniture and other intricate hobbies. It uses Dremel’s wide array of bits, so there’s virtually no limit to what you can do with this. Sure, there are store brands on the market for less, but Dremel is king when it comes to rotary tools, and we think they outdid themselves with this one.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Item not as pictured
Careful...I bought this unit as my old one died....but I had two spare square battery packs and a charger that still worked....I bought this based on the picture and number 750D....what I got was the newer version 750-02 and my old square battery packs do not fit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
I recently bought the Minimite and it works great. It has many uses for me and my wife. She likes to use it for sanding her bunions and her heels, she couldn't find anything that works nearly as good. I use it to sharpen the mower blades and all our knives.

5-0 out of 5 stars PERFECT FOR CARVING FOAM PUMPKINS
If you love carving pumpkings (especially foam pumkins) the way I do, then this tool is an absolute necessity.I use it specifically for scraping away the pumpkin husk in areas that are to have medium tones or for those tiny carving areas where its difficult to have control with an exacto knife. However, the battery doesn't last a real long time. For those 1-2 hour carving sessions, a replacement battery is a must, so one can be charging while you are using the other. ... Built for the do-it-yourselfer, Dremel's cordless MultiPro kit delivers the versatility you expect from a Dremel--with the added advantage of being cordless. Lightweight at only 9 ounces, this compact unit maneuvers comfortably in tight spaces. What will you use it for? Remove old grout in your bathtub, polish your flatware, remove a broken tile, etch glass, hang miniblinds, cut out a pet door, install a new car stereo, sand off a spot of hard-to-reach rust, clean your boat's outboard engine parts, refinish ornate woodwork, install a mortise lock, and much, much more. The kit comes with 50 bits, including a high-speed cutter, a bristle brush, a cutoff wheel, sanding discs, a felt polishing wheel, a grinding wheel, and more--all the tools you need to tackle projects around the home. The tool's ball-bearing shaft affords minimal vibration. The shaft-lock button and unique knurled collet nut make changing bits easy, too, with no wrench required. 3-0 out of 5 stars Know your purpose--not for doggy toes
I bought this tool from another company as a dog nail grinder. However, there are other Dremels better suited for this purpose. Also the product specs on Amazon are not always correct--double check first on the Dremel web site. This tool is currently spec'ed for 10K and 20K rpm. For puppy dogs slower is better as the friction is less and the nail does not get hot as quickly. Best tool would be something around 5K rpm. I think that's the slowest they sell. Some reviewers complained about the 8000-01 Lithium-Ion Cordless so maybe the 7800-02 9.6V Cordless MultiPro® is a good bet, though I have seen good reviews on the 750-02 MINIMITE® Cordless Tool however it's slow speed is 6500. BTW, specs for the 761-01 Pet Nail Grooming Kit are not online at Dremel so I can't confirm if the Amazon specs are correct, you need the owner's manual to do that. Thanks! and Good Luck!!

5-0 out of 5 stars An incredibly useful tool that even I can use without mishap
I'm not what you would call a handy sort of fellow; a few years ago, my greatest handyman-type success was the successful changing of a light bulb.Five years ago, I had never even heard of Dremel; now, I wonder how and why anyone goes through life without a handy-dandy Dremel tool.A few years ago, I got it in my head that I wanted to build my own working versions of Tom Servo, Crow T. Robot, and Gypsy of Mystery Science Theater 3000 fame.Such a project involves some tool-oriented activity, so for the first time in my life I found myself looking at tools.Since I know nothing about tools, I went about my business trying to look like I knew what I was looking for.I think every man responds to the siren call of the hardware department at some point in his life, but not until I found myself looking at a selection of Dremel products did I feel a strange lump of excitement in the pit of my stomach; tool anxiety had suddenly turned into tool excitement, and I gleefully returned home with this Dremel Multipro Cordless kit - feeling quite manly, I might add.

Exactly what does this thing do, you ask?Dude, what doesn't it do?It slices, it dices - no, wait, that's not right. This Dremel tool carves, it grinds, it polishes, it sands, it cuts, it brushes, it drills, it does darn near everything. It comes with 50 accessories in the form of abrasive wheels, drill bits, wire brushes, polishers, engraving cutters, router bits, and cutting wheels.I, being born with a passive tool-user gene, can't really tell what each accessory piece does just by looking at it, but I'm sure most halfway intelligent people can.I have fun just trying to figure it all out. What I needed at the time I bought my Dremel kit was a little sander tool, and even I could recognize the accessories made for that purpose.I soon had my proto-Tom Servo head free of jagged edges and was ready to delve further into my little project; this was just the first of many little Dremel success stories in my suddenly tool-enabled household.

The tool itself is a portable two-speed unit that comes with its own battery and charger.Whenever you get through using it, just plug it back up to let it recharge, and it's ready to go the next time you need it.It is light-weight and allows for different grips, helping to ensure you can pretty much reach whatever little space you need to get to with it.This model has two speeds - 7500 and 15000 rpm. That's pretty darn fast, and that high speed combined with the unit's low torque makes life pretty simple for you - the tool does all the work for you, making this the perfect tool for weaklings such as myself. Now, if you're into some heavy-duty work, the Dremel tool may not meet all of your needs, but for many odd jobs around the house and all manner of hobby activities, a portable Dremel tool is the way to go.

I must say that the documentation that comes with the kit is quite impressive and does actually describe each accessory and its proper uses.Of course, my being a man, I don't think it's legal for me to read a manual, so I just get by on instinct and luck. The kit also comes with a colorful little book telling you all sorts of jobs you can do with your new Dremel tool - if you have a significant other, you might want to keep this kind of information away from her/him.Even if you do get stuck doing odd jobs your better half would never have conceived of without the insight of the Dremel documentation, at least you can be comforted by the fact that you will have a lot of fun playing with your new essential Dremel tool.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cordless version has quirks - but does great job
Good: high speed+abrasive wheel cuts through ANYTHING, light durable feel when using, vast array of bits makes this a jack of all trades from cutting to polishing.

Bad: battery pack does not last very long, On/Off Switch is not definite (safety concern?), needed to buy 2nd battery pack while working a a bathroom project

This is NOT a drill.I see other reveiwers complain about this.If you want torque buy a light-dimming 12Amp Milwaukee Power Drill. The Dremel is an abrasive tool.If used intelligently it will do ALMOST anything you ask it to. ... Read more

The Kodak DC280 digital camera offers Kodak's intuitive user interface, plus a high two-megapixel resolution and a variety of advanced features. Its 1,792 x 1,200 resolution allows for fine detail even at large image sizes. The Kodak DC280 also includes a 2x optical/3x digital zoom and macro capabilities. The built-in flash comes with four modes including red-eye reduction. Special camera modes include time lapse and burst modes as well as auto and manual exposure settings. Kodak's easy-to-use menu system is one of the most intuitive we've seen in the digital camera realm. The camera also includes special effects (black-and-white mode, sepia mode, borders included, document mode) and auto or manual exposure settings.

The Kodak DC280 has a large, bright 1.8-inch LCD monitor. Kodak includes a generous 8 MB CompactFlash memory card. The camera supports USB connectivity for fast, cross-platform downloads. While the DC280 comes with four AA batteries, like all digital cameras, it drains batteries quickly. We recommend investing in a set of rechargeables. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great technology!
I actually bought one of these at a yard sale for 80 bucks, since previously I owned and used a Kodak dc 240.I don't quite know why this series of cameras take such amazingly sharp pictures (my 240 (1.2 MP) takes sharper photos than my 3.2 MP sony!!!)but they just do.The 280 has a more limited zoom (2x as opposed to a 3x), but the picture quality is amazing. You cannot buy a 2MP camera that takes sharper and more realistic pictures than the 280.The new Kodak series with the docking ports are made differently and they are not as good about focusing or sharpness of image. The 280 is a great investment!! I've seen prints from the 280 looking better than some 4MP cameras!! And that's all I have to say about that :)

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera
my dad had baught this camera 3years ago and then recently he gave it to me. itsa good camera, the only thing is, the lense cap keeps comming off. great camera, cheap lense cap.picture quality is good, indoor and outdoor. the only other thing is that when the batteries get low it'll stop using the flash, which gets really annoying sometimes but normally isn't a problem. it can also stand SOME banging around, but not much. oh, and that little plastic covering at the bottom of the right hand corner of the camera peeled off recently but that doens't affect the camera's performance!

5-0 out of 5 stars This WORKHORSE takes STUNNING pictures!
After much research, I recommended the DC280 for my friend's company almost three years ago, and since then it has taken THOUSANDS of pics, most of them STUNNING good color and clarity. Whether taken inside or outside, of products, people or nature shots, the DC280 seemed to handle everything we threw at it - including getting DROPPED several times and getting WET and DIRTY on numerous occasions (not that I recommend it). Recently my friend bought a Canon G2 and GAVE me his "old" Kodak DC280 - and it STILL takes stunning pictures as if it was brand new! Therefore, if you can find a good used DC280 or DC290 for a decent price, I can GUARANTEE you won't be disappointed with the durability of the camera or the quality of the pictures! ... Read more

    Adobe Photoshop 6.0
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
    CD-ROM (15 October, 2000)

US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

With each new release of Photoshop, Adobe manages both to satisfy theexpectations of existing users and to pull a few magic features out of its hat.Version 6 is no exception. Powerful vector editing and masking, improved layercontrols, layer styles, incredible typographic control, new Web publishingtools, and a cleaner, more accessible interface are already making version 5.5,itself a groundbreaker, look like ancient history.

Photoshop's new vector features provide even more control when compositingphotographic images. You can use the vector drawing tools simply to createpolygons and custom shapes, but they can also act as layer clippingpaths--vector masks that hide or reveal image areas in underlying layers.

Editable layer effects such as drop shadow and glow were introduced in version 5.5; in version 6, they have been renamed layer styles. New options includesatin, stroke and color, gradient, and pattern overlay. The layer stylesdialogue box provides much more control--bevel and emboss has five styleoptions, as well as adjusters for technique, depth, direction, size, soften, angle, attitude, gloss, contour, highlight mode, opacity--and that's not all ofthem. As the name suggests, layer styles can easily be saved and applied toother layers.

You can enter and edit text directly onto the layer and set style attributesfrom the new tool options bar. Photoshop 6 seems to have benefited from some ofInDesign's superb typographic tools, with character and paragraph palettesproviding precise control. Web imaging tools have been revamped, withlayer-based slicing now available from within Photoshop itself, and a major overhaulof ImageReady introducing weighted optimization, rollover styles, and tweenedanimation.

If you want the best image editing software that money can buy, look no further.--Ken McMahon ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars No tech support
There is, apparently, no tech support for this product. It works fine, when it works.Photomerge, the only thing I am interested in, drifts in and out. When it is out there is no help to find out why, or how to get it to work again.I would never buy this product again.

I am extremely computer literate, but this product is impossible.

4-0 out of 5 stars uummmmm??
I thought that this was one of the greatest softwares I had Bought after Photoshop 5. THat was untill photoshop 7 came out. Personally I would skip the savings and go for the good stuff with Photoshop7. Almost the same as 6 except that there is a history function that allows you to go back as many steps as you need. There are an uncountable amount of new features that are so easy to use I was blown away.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good product, but not the only one.
This is definitely a good product, but I still like Fireworks better! Why? It's much more user-friendly than Photoshop, and so far there's nothing that I haven't been able to do with Fireworks (Macromedia product). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Lego Organizer
I already own eight of these cabinets, purchased along with my growing Lego collection over the past 10-15 years. They are perfect for sorting parts of different types, colors, and sizes. (I have two devoted to castle parts, and one just for assorted windows, doors, and hinges.) A very few drawers have gotten mysteriously milky with age, but the rest have remained in excellent condition.I only regret that Akro-Mils discontinued the 18-drawer cabinet, which is also very useful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great organizer
I've been able to throw out all of my cardboard boxes that held nails, screws hooks etc. The Combo draw holds fasteners upto 3.5" and the large bins can hold a whole box of screws. No more digging through an assortment of screws to find the right one.Now everything has its place, wood screws, dry wall screws, anchors, hooks, nails even some small tools like a plumb bob and nail sets fit into the drawers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good design. Brittle drawers.
I now have eight of these and the 30-drawer version, and plan on buying many more. They are designed to withstand normal use, but I had to return two to the vendor because half the drawers were cracked. They seem to be made of a brittle (but very clear) plastic. The cabinet has stoppers to keep the drawers from coming all the way out accidentally--saved me many times. Besides the 23- and 30-drawers versions, Akro-mils makes many others, but none of the ones I've seen will stack with these two. ... Read more

Toss in some meat and a handful of veggies, add spices, and dash off to work! Then come home to the comforting aroma of fresh, hot, ready-to-eat stew. And you're not limited to stews and roasts--how about pot pie, baked beans, or even stuffed green peppers. This crockpot's oval shape allows cooking standard pot roasts without cutting or stacking, cooking even two chickens side by side, and the shiny black crockery pot lifts out for elegant serving and is safe for conventional and microwave ovens, refrigerator, and dishwasher. The low setting allows cooking all day, while the high setting reduces cooking time by nearly half. Because the heat does not come from the bottom, only surrounding the sides, it's safe to leave on a counter or tabletop while you're away. 2-0 out of 5 stars Crock of ...
I've owned this Crockpot for approximately two years now.I've only used it maybe 5 times. From the time I got it, it's always gotten /extremely/ hot on the sides, hot enough to cause a burn.Fair enough, I'd just be careful with it.

Well today, on use #6, it blew out my electrical outlet.I moved it to another outlet, and it threw sparks when I plugged it in.Although it worked OK, when someone moved it, it threw sparks out the back....

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I am disappointed that the Rival 3745SC that was listed as nearly brand new and only used once or twice, however it has a big dent in the side so that the handle is loose. I also expected a book to go along with it. I guess that's what you get when you buy used. Next time I will buy new. It also took a very long time to arrive even though it was shipped FedEx.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice, but hot
This crock pot has met all of my expectations. This is my first crock pot with a removable crock.VERY nice (1) to remove for washing, and (2) to prepare a meal the night before, put in the fridge, and then put in the holder in the morning & plug in.My only negative comment on this item is outside gets very hot.You could easily burn yourself by touching the metal part (not the handles).I knew this before I bought it, as I had read the other reviews. As long as you're expecting the hot outside, you won't be disappointed in the crock pot. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Swiveling Work Light for ample light everywhere
This light is a must for the woodworker. It can be attached on any metal surface with the magnetic base and brings adequate light to where you need it most.In addition to the magnetic base, the swiveling capability of the lamp allows you to direct the light to the best advantage where the accuracy of a cut is most critical.

I am not an auto mechanic, but I would think that this would be a must tool for working on engines also.

5-0 out of 5 stars A work light done right
I also am very impressed with the quality of this light. The five pivots move smoothly but hold well, both the magnet and clamp are very strong, and the long cord is heavy duty.I also like that the housing is two halves screwed together, so if the switch wears out or if the cord has problems I'll be able to keep it working. It's "just a work light" but as far as I can tell they've done everything right.

5-0 out of 5 stars Custer Swiveling Lite is a bargain
I purchased this lite for my bandsaw.I was very impressed with the quality; the magnetic base is very powerful, the cord is heavy gauge, the swivel is well constructed. When I ordered it I didn't realize it camewith the optional trouble lite metal cover.I priced commercial lites formore than twice the cost prior to buying this one. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good Product with extremely slow shipping
An excellent tool table for any 'bench-top' tool. But it took ten days to ship and five to be delivered. Your local Sears store is a far better source for this type tool. ... Read more
