Milwaukee 6509-21 Variable Speed Sawzall with Quik-Lok Blade Clamp
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
    Tools & Hardware
    list price: $240.00
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

For years, Milwaukee's Sawzalls have been valued for their outstanding ability to cut through almost any material: wood, nail-embedded wood, steel, cast iron, aluminum, brass, drywall, composition materials, hard rubber, cement, brick, plaster, and fiberglass. This model is particularly popular among drywall contractors who prefer its shallow 3/4-inch stroke, but it's a good all-purpose choice for either the professional contractor or do-it-yourselfer who is busy with standard demolition work. It features variable-speed control (from 0 to 2,400 spm) for efficient cutting over a wide range of materials and applications. The blade's reversible, too, which allows you to cut upside down in confined spaces. (More expensive models feature orbital actions for faster cutting.) For those of you who've grown up with Sawzalls, you'll appreciate the addition of the handy Quik-Lok blade clamp, which lets you change blades quickly without having to use a hex wrench; this feature is especially convenient when you're cutting hard materials such as steel, a situation in which blades break frequently. You'll still have to adjust the pivot shoe manually, however, with screws.

Before you buy a reciprocating saw, you should consider the user fatigue resulting from the saw's inherent vibration. If the saw will be put to continued use, think about stepping up to a model designed to minimize vibration. But if you're looking for the standard, look no further. Milwaukee's Sawzall is an excellent choice for job site or home improvement projects; a staple in most contractors' toolboxes, it boasts a solid reputation for long-lasting dependability. --Tim Block ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good old saw
Mine's a bit older than this, and less inflated in its amperage claims, but it's the same compact versatile sort, not a hulking orbital version or one with articulating handles and gearheads to go haywire (now the rage, it seems, like titanium hammers with goofy skull-and-bone logos). Simple rugged utility was once Sawzall's strength. Old niceties like the hi/lo limit switch and the offset adapter that let you cut flush along a corner are no more, thanks to cost-cutting and the nifty new quick-lock blade clamp, but Sawzall's still the best of the lot and these handy little puppies are still the best of the Sawzalls, at least in my experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best made
You want a recipro saw that will work in restricted, confined areas. This is it. Shortest stroke in the industry, which means you don't bend blades and destroy things around it.

Dunno why the tool-makers went to longer stroke saws, but glad they still make this one. They last as long as you will, hold up in use. Friend of mine has a brand new Super Sawzall....and he uses an old standard model he inherited from his father; it works better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still The Industry Standard
I worked as an Electrician 25 years ago and our shop used Milwaukee toolsexclusively for good reason. They took the lickin and kept on ticking.I usethis saw for demolition and renovation work around the house and it handlesany job with no problem. I definitely reccommend it for the average Joe. Ifyour a contractor and would be using it commercially than go for the 11 Ampmodel. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good
Good solid and dependable air compressor.
A little on the heavy side to be extremely portable but still acceptable given the power and capacity.
    A worthy buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars "THE MACHINE"
THE EMGLO M800 IS THE AIR COMPRESSOR "MACHINE"TO HAVE..NO JOB IS TO SMALL OR TO BIG TO USE THE EMGLO.EASY READ DIALS,FAIRLY QUITE WHEN ITS RUNNING.ITS WORTH THE COUPLE OF XTRA DOLLARS YOU PAY THEN THE OTHER BRAND MODELS OUT THERE.DONT EVEN THINK TWICE THIS IS THE MACHINE TO HAVE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Handy little machine!
I bought this little guy to occasionally run my finish nailer, blow some sawdust around, and pump up a low tire every now and then. My review may not give you the info you need if you plan on using it hard. I will say it does appear to be built pretty well.

My only problem with it when it arrived was a leak in the plastic line that equalizes the pressure between the tanks. It was easy to fix. Because the fittings use air pressure to seal themselves, you can pull the line right out of the fitting when there is no pressure in the tanks. It just slips out of the O-ring in the fitting. There was a tiny chip of metal in the fitting causing the leak, so I just wiped it off and pushed the plastic line back in. Works fine and the leak is no more!

The controls are nice and easy to use, and the single handle makes it easy to carry the Emglo in one hand and the hose in the other when changing locations. One caution: Don't burn yourself on the hot intake head! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast and powerful
This is a surprisingly fast and powerful drill for 12v.I had a Makita 12v cordless for over 5 years that only died because it was dropped.

I was going to switch to a higher voltage but when I tried this one out I thought the size and weight was just right.

The clutch issue that others are mentioning is not a problem.Gears 1, 2, and 3 are low speed/high torque through high speed/low torque. The 24 position clutch limits the motor torque, not the resultant output.

I think this works well, but it is not what you may be used to.The clutch does seem to break-in a little after a few uses.

This is a high quality drill. It is not like one of your B&D, Skil, or Harbor Freight models. This is an example of you get what you pay for.

Drill/drivers are one of those tools that I use a lot.I think that quality is important, and I can't seebuying one of those low grade units. This has more torque and speed than your typical low grade.

    Five stars definately.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great torque and speed for any job
I bought this drill for projects around the house, and it has risen to every challenge. Lots of torque for driving screws into oak. Plenty of speed when used as a grinding wheel. The battery lasts very long.

I haven't had any of the listed problems with the clutch either.

I think it's a great value that will last

3-0 out of 5 stars update to my previous review
After using the DW980 for almost two weeks, I've formed a pretty good impression about it:
    1. In my previous review (9/07/02), I stated that the clutch worked fine in the lowest gear (gear # 1). Well, the truth is that it only works in torgue settings 1-5. The worst thing is Dewalt won't admit the problem, I was told it was normal.
    2. Occasionally, the gears don't shift (it got stuck in the middle). I have to run the motor a bit to complete the shifting.
    3. When stopping in gears #2 & 3, it makes rattling sound.
    4. The high speed is really helpful, it finishes the jobs much cleaner. ... Read more

When the job calls for power, Milwaukee's 1/2-inch drill delivers, with the best power-to-weight ratio in its class. Built to withstand the rigors of even the most demanding user, this drill boasts a rugged, 8.0 amp Milwaukee motor, a heavy-duty keyed clutch, an all-metal gear case and diaphragm, and helical-cut steel gears--heat-treated for maximum durability. Variable-speed control allows the drill to operate smoothly between 0 and 850 rpm, while a 360-degree locking side handle provides added stability and power on high-torque jobs. Ergonomically designed to maximize user comfort while still providing ample power and strength, Milwaukee's 1/2-inch drill features grooved slots, making it easy to run the drill with the hand directly behind the drill's body, while operating the trigger with the pinky and ring fingers. A smart buy for any job site, this drill will also appeal to the home user looking for the top of the line. --Carl Thress ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST
I have had DeWalts, Makitas, Black and Deckers, and Chinese pieces of junk. The Milwaukee (I have two, a 1/2 in. and a 3/8 in.) are simply the best, and nothing else is close.Don't waste your money on the others and be disappointed, and then buy the Milwaukee, buy it first and save.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lives up to the name
I bought this drill after reading a number of poor reviews for just about every cordless on the market.I didn't even bother researching this one after seeing my father use Milwaukee for 30 or so years.I'm willing to sacrifice the keyless chuck for something that performs as well as this model.Cheers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great drill
My primary drill is an 18-volt cordless. I felt that I needed a corded to supplement my cordless. I do have 2 smaller corded drills but they are old and not variable speed and rather low amp.

I have the need to mix some joint compound, not regularly but just for a couple of rooms. I didn't want to rent a mixer if I didn't have to. I have used the 18-volt cordless but being battery operated it's not a great idea and I don't really want to spring for a second dedicated mixing drill for a couple of small jobs.
I do have an old spade handle but it's one speed and too fast for mixing compound.

I began looking around at different corded drills to see if I could find a high amp one that I thought might be up to the job of mixing compound in a limited capacity. This is 8 amp and the same size as the 5.5 amp drill. Dedicated mixers, spade handle drills are 7.5 amp. heavier geared and made more heavily for day in and day out mixing so therefore recommended for continued mixing. I again am looking to get away with an occasional mixing. Hitachi makes a small drill with a bit higher amperage but it doesn't look as substantial as the Milwaulkee plus Milwaulkee has a reputation for making really good drills.

This drill is a heavy duty substitute for my cordless. Used when I need more drilling power, something that doesn't have a battery in the way, something where i need to go back and forth between drills and don't want to keep swaping bits and occassional mixing. Also, I saved some money by not getting the keyless chuck. I have one on my cordless but don't really need it here.
So far it has been a wonderful, no frills value added addition that does what I need it to do. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great home handyman tool
One of those tools you thought you might not need but are now darn glad you have. You'll wonder if this tool will help with pretty much every challenging cutting angle or clearance issue.Used the accessories almost from day 1, so the combo makes sense. No regrets.

4-0 out of 5 stars For the HOME user, it is a MUST have
Myself, I'm a lowly home owner.I bought this tool, because of it's maneuverability and speed with which it cuts. For roughing in flooring in my attic, it performed better than any tool I have ever owned. The power, cable and phonewires in my attic were easily managed by cutting a quarter inch deep trench in the 2x4's, such that the plywood wouldn't crush them.I then was able to freehand cut the plywood around the roofing supports. All said and done, I had my attic completely floored in about 3 hours. It would have taken several weekends of my time using conventional jigsaws, or hauling stuff up and down the ladder.

I cannot dispute the issues of the fan blade; I do not doubt that this happens with commercial use. However, for the home user it has not been a problem for me.I gave it 4 stars, instead of 5 stars for the simple reason that I agree with the commercial users. The fan should be able to withstand the temperatures the tool will generate in continuous use.

2-0 out of 5 stars Revolution design flaw
I have been using the Revolution spiral cut tool for a few months in a professional capacity, previously using the Dremel for drywall cuts. The Revolution shaft lock has be redesigned which is good news, the old design would fall apart with minimal useage.I am on my third Revolution now within 5 months. Its a great for cutting drywall, however if you use the tool for harder materials such as plywood, hardyboard, OSB, or particle board expect a drastically shortened tool life. I use this tool because it will not crack or split Formica. Heat generated while cutting, travels up the shaft and begins to melt the plastic fan blade. With the fan's tight tolerance to the housing, it begins to drag causing more noise and quicker failure from wobble at 30,000 rpm.A few countertop sink cutouts is all this tool can handle in 3/4" particle board before failure, with changing the bit 3 or 4 times for each sink to insure a sharp bit.Maybe if you could allow the tool to cool for 30 minutes for every 5 minutes of cutting, it would last longer, however this in impractical with a customer standing over you.And there is only a one year warranty from original purchase.Since they replace the tool and not repair it, the warranty should begin a new period. This would force them into incorporating a billet aluminum fan blade more quickly. Its hell to be at customers and have a tool failure.Maybe I should become a dealer and carry a few Revolutions in stock on my truck and perhaps even bill the customer for a new tool each time i use it, under consumables.ALWAYS WEAR EAR PLUGS AND SAFETY GLASSES WHILE USING THIS TOOL. ... Editorial Review

With this 2-1/2-inch, 16-gauge finish nailer, Porter-Cable continues to make good on their reputation as one of the top pneumatic toolmakers. The gun's straight magazine is well thought out, made from aluminum, and top loading. This is a sturdy, compact nailer that shoots a conveniently wide range of 16-gauge nails, from 3/4 to 2-1/2 inches. The nailer has a good balance and a nice, thin grip made of porous rubber. (You don't have to have the hands of a giant to comfortably operate this gun.) The gun has a nicely designed depth-of-drive adjustment. There's also a muffled exhaust port, so it's quieter than a lot of other nailers--plus the exhaust port is adjustable, so you can direct the discharge where you want it. The gun's also lighter than we'd expected, always a good thing in a tool a lot of us use all day long. --Jon Groebner ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars MADE IN TAIWAN -- BUY AMERICAN
I've used it hundreds of times now, with only 1 jam!! Some people made a big deal about the adapter u need to use for nails under 1 1/4" - I HAVE NOT USED THE ADAPTER YET WHEN I CHANGE NAIL SIZE - IT WORKS FLAWLESS WITHOUT IT! To me it's a bonus to have it shoot 3/4" - 2 1/2" nails. It also has no problem shooting nails through 1 1/2" solid red oak either! - 1 MAJOR FLAW - IT'S MADE IN TAIWAN - seems porter cable is getting alot of their tools MADE IN TAIWAN NOWDAYS. You could get better quality if you spent a little more $$$ to get american made! 3 stars for overseas construction!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
My wife and I just bought a new house and I had to install a couple hundred feet of new baseboard, so I decided to go the easy route and buy a nailer. Got the Porter-Cable last weekend and all I can say is great tool. I had absolutely no problems with it and think this had to have been one of the best tool purchases I've ever made. This one's definitely gonna get a lot of use.

4-0 out of 5 stars improve nail size change system
I'm writing this after only one day on the job. I am installing oak trim. It seems to work great & has no problems in the 3/4 solid oak. I have to agree with a couple other reviews, though.Using 2 inch nails, had to remove the allen screw. Couldn't find the allen wrench, so drove home (2 miles) to get another one. Didn't realize that it is metric, so had to drive 16 miles to town to buy one. Also had to have a #6 metric wrench to hold the nut on the back. All told; lost about [amt] to [amt] in labor out of my day & much frustration & tension. PLEASE...isn't there a better way without needing a special tool, then worrying about losing the part once it is off? Also, had to buy new air connections to convert to the more standard & less expensive type. Today felt like a 1 star day, but I'm giving the tool 4 stars anyway, just to show good faith.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a joke!
After having all of my air tools stolen, I bought this stapler because it was the cheapest. It came with the head bolts too loose so it leaked air.I tightened them, no big deal. The worst part was the advertized easy un-jamb nose piece. The engineers in their great wisdom put the magazine higher than the Hinged nose piece. It takes a narrow screwdriver, a needle nose plier and a lot of cussing to remove a stuck staple. The spring is too weak to keep the proper pressure on the staples, only large amounts of WD40 sprayed on the magazine kept the gun operating smoothly, and paint doesn't stick on oil. I give this gun 1 star because of it's lousy anti-jambing design.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fast but not consistant
I needed to install a sub-floor. I went as fast as could and the stapler did a great job with no jams.It is easy to run out of staples and not know it.It needs something besides just looking thru a little hole at the staples.Uses little air, my pancake compressor kept up. I did have a hard time setting the depth of the staples. The depth varies a LOT with out touching the dial and I had to go back and pound down about 15% of the staples.

5-0 out of 5 stars Porter Cable has a winner
I bought this stapler from Amazon to put up sheathing and it has performed flawlessly.Have used it for several other jobs as well where a framing nailer would split the wood but needed more holding power than a finish nailer, such as attaching lattice work.Haven't used the optional vinyl siding attachment yet, but will be in the next couple of weeks. The stapler does have a depth of drive adjustment, but comes from the factory with a setting to drive the staples as deep as possible, so don't use on a finish job out of the box.Haven't had a jam yet, but the front clearing mechanism is simple to use.Have used on sheathing and lap siding jobs and was very impressed by the difference in holding power of the stapler versus a nail.It will definitely stay in the top of my job box for easy access. ... Editorial Review

Porter-Cable's 1-3/4-horsepower router is popular with woodworkers for good reason. It's reliable, powerful, and exceptionally smooth running--not to mention versatile. Although the 691 comes with a D-handle base, the motor is interchangeable with Porter-Cable's excellent plunge base or two-handle fixed base. Both matching bases are available separately for much less than the cost of a new router, and switching bases for different applications is a quick and easy operation.

We really appreciate Porter-Cable's new autorelease collet design, which prevents bits from getting frozen in the machine. It'd be great if Porter-Cable could come up with an alternative to needing two wrenches for a bit change, but this minor inconvenience is far outweighed by the tool's overall quality. In fact, Porter-Cable's focus on simple, quality engineering is the reason for this model's long-lasting success. The router doesn't offer electronic variable-speed control or enough power to effectively double as a shaper, but it is among the smoothest-running routers we've tried, producing consistently clean results. For most applications it offers all the versatility and muscle you could ask for. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars the base for these are useless
i haved used at least 5 of these routers and they work great right out of the box but the base becomes warped very quickly making it difficult to router properly especialy with flush cuting bits i have 6 years of full time wood working experiance and the last time i used one i messed up flush cuting because the base was not flat i would by the Bosch 1618B if u plan on using the router more than a few times because of the superior base

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Router
This router is great for a first or only router because of its versatility. You can buy a plunge base if you need it, but i dont really care for it too much but it is cheaper than a new diecent router. The dhandle is a great feature it gives you alot more contol than just the two knobs found on most routers.1 1/2 hp is pleanty of power for most applications. The collet i dont mind but use real wrenches, the ones in the kit are cheap and tend to cut your fingers especially if the bit is in there really tight. The 690 series is the most popular router, many other accesories are avalible, which make it even more versitle. If this is your 1st router of your 50th, you have to have one.

5-0 out of 5 stars I use it all day long.
This is a wonderful router. We have made blind, taporing, dovetail socket routs, and parts to match. With this router we wiz right through the ladder rails and rungs with no complaints from this router.I just wish that the bits would keep up with the router. The "D" handle is just the perfect size, and the locking trigger is perfect for all of the routing that we do. The only complaint that i would have with this, and this is with every router I have ever come to research, and use, is that you can not hook up a vacume source anywhere on the router.Luckily i work in a wood shop with my father, and he is definatly from the "old school" and we designed a great design for that. Thanks Porter Cable, Daniel Kroeker Juniata, Nebraska GO HUSKERS!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Angle Grinder
I've had this grinder for three years now, and have used it for cutting, grinding and sanding metal and masonry - it has been flawless.I've even thrown diamond-cutting wheels on it for wet and dry cutting of tile and concrete (also occasional drywall jobs).

I own three angle grinders - this 5" Milwaukee, a 7" Dewalt, and a 9" Milwaukee.I pull this out over 90% of the time. The balance, weight, and variable speed make this the tool of choice. You will probably be surprised how often you'll make use of the variable speed on this tool. This is one of only a few power tools that I couldn't live without.

The only drawback is the limited selection of 5" wheels, but since it out performs the other 4 1/2 grinders, that's not much of an issue. It isn't the cheapest angle grinder out there, but I'm convinced it is the best. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It will make you a better carpenter
This saw made me a better carpenter.Combined with a Freud Diablo II blade, this saw handles 2 x dimension lumber so easily that you can make incredibly smooth and straight cuts. When cutting a 45 degrees through a 2 x 10, I cut a straighter line cutting freehand with this saw then with a "homeowner" quality level saw and a straight edge. The reason is the even power. You can get into a very smooth rhythm of feed rate based on the saw's power. It's worth every penny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money on some other saw
I own several other circ saws, including a Makita hypoid (Their name for worm drive) They don't even come close. If you can't spend the $190.00 for one of these saws buy a $50.00 black and decker and use a good Marathon blade in it, because everything else in my opinion is in the same class and you would be wasting the extra money. If it was possible to rate this saw with 10 stars I would. The black bag gets dirty easily and the saw doesn't fit with the blade installed, but who cares about that stuff!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEAST!
Like the title of my review implies, I consider this saw to be the animal of my collection.I've ripped through all types of wood with it as well as concrete slabs. It's alot heavier than a sidewinder saw, but definetly worth it's weight in gold. Here's a tip for all of you prospective buyers: Be sure and blow out all of the dust and debris that get all over the saw with some compressed air whenever you get the chance. If you don't, it will stall out on you.As long as you keep it clean and lubed, it should out live you! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Quality, easy use...except
I've been using this tool every day for the past month for hanging drywall, fastening cement board, putting down decking and installing wood plank flooring. It has performed admirably and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase and use this tool again. For the price it is an excellent value - even when compared with other brands such as DeWalt, Makita, etc....The "no-slip" depth adjustment is a great feature when you take of the gauge to back out screws - you just put the gauge back on without concern for readjustment, it's always right on.

My only reservation is the adjustment of the depth gauge itself. It becomes noticebly more difficult to use after only a little dust has collected - a frequent occurance with drywall and cement board.I found myself cleaning and lubing this part once a day when it was in constant use.If you're using the tool for the same depth all the time, I suppose this isn't a concern.Other than this one bad tick , the tool is very well made (it's a Milwaukee after all) and very easy to use. ... Editorial Review

You've decided to tackle that remodeling project, but your mitersaw can't handle the tall baseboards and crown molding you've picked outfor the job. Relax, the DeWalt DW706 is up to the challenge. With thehighest vertical cutting capacity in its class, the 12-inch DW706 canpower through crown molding vertically up to 6-5/8 inches tall and basemolding up to 6 inches. Its flat cutting capacity is also impressive at8 inches. But its stock capacity isn't the only thing going for thissaw. A lightweight design (the saw weighs just 44 pounds) and built-incarrying handle make it portable enough to tote easily from job to job.Better yet, the saw's double-bevel design allows you to flip the bladerather than the materials you're cutting, letting you finish cuts moreaccurately. The DW706 also cuts 50-degree left and right miter angles.Easy adjustments, including 11 positive stops at the most common miterangles, save time and ensure greater precision, while a quiet motor andsmooth arm operation enhance overall user comfort, making this a greatsaw for day-in, day-out use. --Carl Thress ... 5-0 out of 5 stars First miter saw - great purchase!
While I've used a few different miter saws in the past, this is the first one I have owned personally, and I couldn't be happier with it. I was trying to decide between this and a Delta with the laser guide but ultimately chose the DeWalt DW706 thanks to its superior fit and finish and build quality. So far I've used this for some shelving projects and closet upgrades around the house, and it's been incredible. Great power, easy to use, and I'm not missing the laser at all. Miter adjustments are easy and true. The saw is extremely sturdy but still relatively easy to move around. Now I'm saving up for the DeWalt miter saw stand.

5-0 out of 5 stars One among a few great saws
I recently decided to buy a 12" compound miter saw, for use at a crosscut station I planed to build up against a wall in my shop.I had a Makita LS1013 slider (a very nice saw, now being enjoyed by my #2 son), but it took up too much room, front-to-back.In general, the minimum fence-to-wall distance seems to be 10'-12" more for sliders than non-sliders.I much preferred the 12" CMS's to the 10" ones, for their increased cutting capacity and beefier construction.

Initially, I was intrigued by the laser-equipped models. Were I a trim carpenter, I'd consider a laser guide essential, because of the productivity benefits.I'm not one, however, just a duffer who enjoys making sawdust. Moreover, I rarely cut boards by making a mark and cutting to that mark, which is where lasers are helpful.I have an extended fence on both sides of the saw, to which are attached adhesive-backed rules.I normally set a stop on the fence to the desired cut-length, place the board against the stop and cut away.(If the board is so short it doesn't reach the extended fence, I set the stop for 10" more than the cut-length and insert a piece of aluminum exactly 10" long between the stop and the workpiece.)

Once I reclassified the laser guide feature to "nice to have", a number of very fine saws became candidates. After some tire-kicking and research, I made a short-list of three saws: the DeWalt DW706, Bosch 4212 and Delta 36-412.I found these three saws had more similarities than differences. All were very well made, accurate and had very good ergonomics.I expect I would have been happy with any of them.

Another thing in common with these three saws is that they are all dual-bevels.On rare occasions, I'll probably appreciate not having to flip a long board end-to-end to cut a bevel, but I like the dual-bevel feature for another reason. To be able to cut bevels both ways, the manufacturers have to move the motor up and back. This improves both the visibility of the boards you're cutting, and improves the balance of the machine.DeWalt accomplishes this by using a belt drive, which reduces noise.I think Bosch also has a belt drive; Delta uses gears.

Bosch and Delta both have the bevel lock at the front of the saw; DeWalt has it in the traditional location in the back. Were I cutting crown molding all day, maybe I'd pay something for an "upfront" bevel lock, but I don't, so I won't.

The Delta has one feature I found tempting. At zero degree miter and bevel, it is capable of cutting boards up to 9.5" wide. All other 12" CMS's seem to be limited to about 7-3/4".Considering that I have a sliding table on my table saw, which makes crosscuts easy, I concluded that the extra capacity offered by the Delta was of limited benefit to me.

All of these saws will no doubt be equipped with laser guides in the near future. (I'm told the Delta will appear with one within a few weeks of this writing.)So if you like one of these saws, but really want a laser guide, and can wait awhile, I suggest you do just that.

There were two considerations that caused me to cast my vote for the DeWalt. The first was that the DeWalt is the most compact, having the shortest minimum fence-to-wall distance. With the DeWalt I can build wings on either side of the saw that extend only 24" from the wall. The second and more important consideration was that I could get a great deal on the DeWalt. When I was ready to buy, the DeWalt was on sale at a great price, and DeWalt had a promotion going where they would throw in their DW723 miter saw stand for just the cost of shipping. My #2 son praises the stand, which he uses with his Makita. The stand sells for about 75% of what I paid for the saw!

One last thing: the DeWalt, and some other miter saws, have been criticized for not having "soft-start" motors.I don't understand that.I actually prefer the quick-start motor on the DeWalt to the soft-start on my (make that my son's) Makita slider, because it enables me start the cut sooner. On startup, the DeWalt rears slightly, but it doesn't lurch, or cause the table or material to move.I hold the handle loosely when I turn on the saw, and then pull it down for the cut.

5-0 out of 5 stars Smooth accurate cuts
what more do you need from a miter saw. This is a power house of a saw that makes very accurate compound cuts that don't need any finishing. The plade that comes with the saw is everything you need and don't let anyone convince you that it may be inferior in any way.The cuts it makes look like they cam out of a jointer. ... Tools & Hardware

    Editorial Review

DeWalt's miter saw workstation is made of rugged, anodized aluminum, supports 300 pounds, and will accommodate most brands of miter saws. The stand's wide-legged design adapts quickly to the unpredictable surfaces of a job site. Setup is quick and easy. But what we like best is the tool mount, easily the tool's most distinctive feature. You bolt the saw to a flat table that slides along the workstation's double rails, which then allows you to reposition the saw along the stand if necessary or remove the saw without having to unscrew any bolts. A convenient tool stop also rides on the workstation's double rails, a snap to adjust: just unclamp, slide it in place, and reclamp. And when the job's done, just slide the saw off, retract the workstation's legs, and go. The whole station weighs only 35 pounds and, when folded up, fits easily in a truck bed. There's also a self-adjusting measurement system (a cradle for a standard tape measure to extend from the work stop to the edge of the tool mount); it works, but the system seemed unnecessarily complicated to us, and we found it easier to set the work stop off the cut. --Jon Groebner ...
