    Editorial Review

Tight mortise-and-tenon joinery is an irreplaceable ingredient of many woodworking projects, but cutting tenons accurately can be next to impossible without the aid of a good jig, like this one from Delta. This jig is made with the same quality of castings and precision machining found on Delta's top-of-the-line table saws, giving it the stability and accuracy we desire. We also appreciate its versatility and wide range of adjustment. While the jig is a perfect match for Delta's benchtop and contractor saws, the miter-slot bar can adjust to fit a number of other manufacturers' table saws as well. It can be used with both right- and left-tilt saws, although switching between the two setups does take some time and attention to detail. The jig can be adjusted from 90 to 45 degrees and has adjustable positive stops; of course, we recommend checking your adjustments with a good square and bevel gauge to make sure the stops are set correctly.

Getting your tenoning jig set up just right can require some patience, but once done, you'll get a big payoff in accurate tenons, and your projects will have the tightest possible joints. In our experience, few shop accessories will prove as invaluable to your woodworking as this solid tenoning jig from Delta. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent tool, worth every penny
after buying the delta mortiser i needed something that would help make identical tenons and be as reliable as the mortiser is. The Delta tenon jig was it. This is a great tool that makes tennoning a breeze. Yeah it may come covered in oil, but so does any other large steel tool you buy. I would rather have it come covered in oil than covered in rust.

The only problem i had with this tool was that it would not fit in the craftsman table saw that i had. It would be nice if they shipped a smaller bar to help accomidate for this problem. the solution for me was to go out to sears and buy a new mighter gauge ($35) and used the bar from that on the delta tenon jig. after that it was ready to go.

overall: Excellent tool that makes tennoning simple

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent vlaue and quality
After reading some of the reviews here I was a little apprehensive about ordering this jig but did so anyway, and I am glad that I did! THis is an excellent quality tool, well designed, stable, and safe, my only issue is that delta went a little overboard with the protective coating of grease, anyway that took about five minutes to clean after I disassembled the jig to move the miter slot rail for my left tilt saw.

Those who complain about the setup either can't read directions or didn't read them before starting. This thing is not rocket science and if you are able to accuratly produce the mortises that will fit the tenons you make with this jig you should be able to set this up after a quick review of the detailed diagrams and instuctions.

3-0 out of 5 stars So, So tennoning jig
The Jig came with a ton of grease that had to be cleaned off.But to do this, I had to take the whole thing apart which was a hassle. Also had to file down to the sharp edges and sand the bottom of the jig as it would scratch my table saw surface. The stock support fence was bent and had to be hammered back into flat. After all that the jig is working fine. ... Editorial Review

Dordán is a trio from Ireland that was formed to explore the common elements found in Irish and various forms of classical music. Harper Kathleen Loughnane, fiddler Dearbhaill Standún, and flautist Mary Bergin find the strongest bonds among the dance tunes. They skillfully weave medleys out of jigs, reels, and strathspreys, and re-create Continental styles in polkas and chaconnes. The selections include a few tunes from the Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan as well as sonatinas by the Czech composer Jan Ladislav Dussek and Beethoven. Dordán perform the dance tunes with a stateliness that might sound too formal to someone used to hearing them in the more raucous setting of a pub session. But they play these melodies with such intense feeling and attention to detail in tone that they more than make up for the lack of boisterousness. --Michael Simmons ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Porter-Cable's 12-inch dovetail machine is a great, sturdy little tool, perfect for smaller (desk-drawer-size) projects. The machine sports a self-aligning edge guide and built-in slots at the base for mounting the device to your favorite workbench or table. Keep in mind, this is a machine designed to handle stock no wider than 1 inch (1/8 of an inch is the minimum). Setup is super easy--we were cutting dovetails in 30 minutes after opening the box. The results? Fantastic, beautiful, tight-fitting joints! If you're a woodworker ready to explore the fancy and fun world of dovetailing, Porter-Cable's machine is the perfect introduction. --Jon Groebner ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Feeling cheated
I bought the Porter Cable 4112 last year. It WAS the cheapest dovetail jig you could get that works reasonably well and wasn't made overseas. It's not a heavily built jig, but for what little dovetailing and box joints that I do, I figured it was good enough. Yesterday I went to go get a box joint template for it, and find out Porter Cable has a new jig, the 4210 & the 4212. For the same price I paid for my 4112 I could have the 4210 that is ALOT heavier constructed, has one handed material clamps which is a big improvement, and a carbide bit, not the HSS junk bit that comes with the 4112. Skip this one and look at the 4210. It appears to be a MUCH heavier and nicer tool for the same price.

3-0 out of 5 stars Could be Better
There are a lot of features that are lacking on the 4112.For one thing there sould be some extensions that allow you to clamp the machine as well as screw it to the side of a table.I also agree with other users that there should be an eaiser way to adjust the depth of cut.The tool works but if I had the option again I would buy a used Leigh jig.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly designed and manufactured!
Well I bought because of the Porter Cable name.Problems appeared around the 5th drawer...the problem is due to the poorly manufactured left side adjustment bracket, it's only held in place by one poorly located screw, the bracket flexes enough to create a bunch of problems. The second problem with the jig is in the clamp down plastic knobbed clamps (2 of them stripped out) and the clamp is not hefty enough to hold work pieces in place...I suspect the plastic knobs stripped because the clamp flexed enough.Save your money and avoid this product. It's time consuming to setup and frustrating to keep it aligned.I've designed tools over my life time and this is an example of how a pretty simple jig can be messed up by improper selection of materials and poor execution in the manufacturing and test of a product.Oh, and my experiences with the random orbit palm sander by Porter Cable...uugggghhhhh! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Another gift gone bad....
For birthdays and other holidays my Sweetheart, kids and grandkids usually buy me woodworking tools. Even though I usually provide them with a list, occasionally things go bad.
This jig is one of them. One of the legs was bent out of the box, took some creative straitening methods to get it to work at all. Finally got it assembled and working, sort of. This thing is too flimsy to be of any serious use. Doesn't have enough mass to use it on large leg sections. I'm afraid the push tab will bend. Adjusting it by eye is not a big deal, but the flimsy lock mechnism does not instill confidence in a repeatable cut. The whole thing flex's when you push the piece thru the saw. After wasting a couple hours and a few pieces of scrap wood, I decided this jig should go back. Unfortutely it was purchased at HD, who wouldn't take it back, since it had been assembled and used. So on my way out the store, I tossed it in their dumpster. I'm going to make my own out of some hardwood and brass fittings. I know I can make something a lot more useful than this. Can't recommend this jig, except as a model of what not to do.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very Poor Design/Quality
I have owned this jig for a while and wish I had spent the money on making my own jig from the get-go.It is very inaccurate and hard to adjust.Make your own.

1-0 out of 5 stars I had owned this product
I found this jig to be [poor quality], flimsy and inaccurate. It is hard to set up and flexes easily making accurate tapers impossible. Take my advise and spend a little more money for a good one or build one yourself. I threw it away. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
I am just amazed at how well it works on my table saw. It works for jointing too. I want to buy one more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Safety First and it's a third hand for ripping
I'm not a big fan of the tablesaw. However, I inherited a shop where the tablesaw is the main gig.I bought one of these featherboards and am loving it.First of all the construction is very sturdy - the body is made of a very dense plastic or fibreglas that has been molded and milled. The magnets are extremely strong, holding the featherboard exactly where you put it.I bought a bunch of accessories last month, and this is the best by far.In fact, today I'm buying a second one as per the other reviewers.

5-0 out of 5 stars What are your fingers worth??
I purchased an inexpensive table saw which I was very disappointed in until I purchased the Tite-Grips (2) - I was able to use the grips by installing a metal plate to my aluminum fence - the grips now add stability to my ripping and allow me to repeat cut narrow pieces without moving the fence.

I believe that the value of my fingers far exceeds the cost of the grips. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My chisels and plane irons have never been sharper!
I bought this honing guide system to use with the "scary sharp" method of sharpening.Using progressively finer grits of sandpaper affixed to a granite plate, I get great results both while flattening the backs of the cutting tools and while honing the bevels using this jig.I have never been so happy sharpening as I am with this system. It consistently produces razor sharp edges in a few minutes. The chisel/iron holding mechanism is solid and the roller glides smoothly through your honing strokes. All aspects of this tool feel like good quality.

I rate this product 5 stars for its ease of use, quality construction, and very reasonable price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great System...
I have owned this system for two years now and find it excellent. I use it with a plate diamond stone for rough shaping and japanese water stones for final edge and micro-beveling. Perhaps I am not fussy enough, but I don't find the angle jig a problem. I may not hit exactly 25 degrees every time, but my chisels and plane irons cut wonderfully.
As to setting the edge of the tool at a right angle, place the cutting tool in the jig and tighten the screw somewhat then use a small engineers square to square it up before tightening it completely.
One word of caution if using sandpaper or diamond sharpening systems; oil the roller on the sharpening jig every so often so the roller operates freely. If not, the roller can develope flat spots. I would also recommend resetting the micro-bevel feature to it's lowest setting before you put the jig away so you don't forget the next time you start using it.
If you have never sharpened before, this is an excellent system for you. After sharpening two or three edge tools, you should get repeatable results every time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent system for sharpening
This is not a cheap system but it works wonderfully.I have been very happy with Veritas and their parent company Lee Valley. They are a first class organization with decent customer service also.

The honing guide has enabled be to consistantly get the proper angle on my chisels, plane blades, etc.Is it essential? No, it isn't but it sure has made a differance in the quality of the sharpening of my woodworking tools. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Dissapointing
I bought this jig for my carpenters to install locks, assuming a Porter Cable jig would be of good quality. When I opened the box, I laughed to discover the plastic housing. The drill fit very poorly, did not spin freely, and did not fit through the hole on the other side of the jig without manipulating it.Tried the quick release and could not get it to disengage without a pair of pliers.

Just to see, I gave it to my lead carpenter and without my saying anything, he laughed too.Mr. Pike's review is from 1999 when, Ibelieve, the jig was metal not plastic. It's shocking to me that a company that presents itself as selling tools to professionals would ever present such a low class toy.Thank you Amazon for taking it back, I could not risk even trying it on one door.

2-0 out of 5 stars They should have stayed with metal
I bought this to finish some custom built 2+" thick alder doors.I nearly ruined one of them account this plastic piece of crap is unstable. It allows the shank of the bit to wander and thus the hole comes out crooked. There is just too much load on the large hole bit for the integrity of the plastic jig frame. The bolt feed is aggressive and may cause the feed point to get into widows cut into the door.I am totally unhappy with this product. It might work fine on hollow core or softwood doors.I will go back to using a General drill guide to drill a 1/4" pilot hole through the door and follow that with the common hole saw.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
I recently purchased this item to bore a house full off doors. Unfortunately, I relied too heavily on Porter Cable's reputation. The housing is made of thermoplastic, and would not cinch up tight to the first door I tried to bore. After talking to other manufacturers, I returned this item for the classic engineering door jig. What a difference! The PC is for weekend warriors, while the CE is truly for the working man. Don't waste your money on this toy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Our favorite song!
I bought this cd hoping for a little bit of good Irish music, as I had come across a few less-than-savory albums in the past.I could not have found a better cd!

My two-year-old, my sixteen-year-old sister, my mother, and I (at age twenty-one) all love the sixth track more than any other song we've ever heard. We play it over and over on long road trips and hardly ever tire of belting out the words along with song.

Kuddos to the artists. Thanks for adding joy to our lives.

    5-0 out of 5 stars A toe-tapper!
This is a wonderful album of traditional Irish instrumental and vocal music, marred only by the lack of any liner notes to identify the performers.I would love to have followed up by seeking out recordings by some of them.If you want to make your day go faster, and enjoy the musical sunshine on your back, you can't go wrong with this recording.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for a Dancer or a Fan!

The push stick and push block are great products. The featherboard, however, is a little iffy.

The plastic feet used to secure the device are a little large for the cutout and have to be worked into it.Once there, it does a good job of holding your wood, although adjusting it is a bit clumsy.

Overall, it is an OK buy for the money, but you could make your own quite easily.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless
Agree with other reviewers - featherboard is a useless and dangerous piece of junk - should be removed from market.
