DEWALT DW733 12-1/2" Portable Thickness Planer
    by DeWalt
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
    Tools & Hardware
    list price: $718.00
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

DeWalt's sturdy four-column planer is a great addition in any workshop--and, because it's easily portable, transition to the job site is always an option. Thanks to the largest material support table of any portable planer on the market and a tight-locking cutterhead, boards feed through effortlessly with minimal snipe. We also liked how easy it is to measure precise cuts with the turret stops (set at 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 of an inch). There's also a calibrated depth crank that adjusts 1/16 of an inch with each full rotation. Unlike other portable planers, DeWalt's provides an easy-to-read gauge of how much material each pass removes as well as the amount left over on the original board. Rather than using double-edged knives, this model takes two big M2 high-speed steel knives with single-surface cutting areas that deliver an impressive 64.1 cuts per inch. Changing knives took us a mere 10 minutes (and we were new to this design) and--better yet--they can be resharpened multiple times rather than discarded after one use. Powered by 15 amps with a no-load speed of 10,000 rpm, DeWalt's easily transported planer is a nice combination of high performance and convenience. Each planer ships with an extra set of knives, magnets, and wrenches. --Justin Paul ... Read more

    • Magnetic gauge holds knives in place, making changing knives easy
    • Includes an extra set of knives and dust hood, an $84.99 value
    • Four-column head lock secures cutterhead to eliminate snipe
    • Extra long infeed and outfeed tables provide 33 inches of material support
    • 15 amp motor rotates the cutterhead at 10,000 rpm, making 64 cuts per inch

5-0 out of 5 stars If a woodchuck could chuck wood
I like this planer just fine. However I must admit that this is the only one I have ever used.I had a friend who had a maple tree fall in his yard.We went our and ripped about 40, 12" x 30" x 3" blocks with our chain saws. (without a ripping chain). The blocks were in terrible shape.I have run these through this planner and now have 40 pieces of 1" x12"x30 beautiful marbled maple.I had to run each piece through about 20- 25 times to get all the chain saw marks out.So I would guess that is about 2500 board feet of nasty rock hard maple.NO PROBLEM.This thing is like a ginsui knife,I took one of the pieces and ran it through to see how fine I could finish it, a buddy of mine needed a custom size cutting board for his kitchen cabinet.I hardly need to sand it when I was done. The one problem I had was when I bought it the screw that holds the handle on was not long enough and I stripped the hole, but it stays on with gravity just fine. I Also would like two speeds, as with most of my reviews this is my fault for not spending the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Litte Machine!
You will be hard pressed to find a planer that will do a better job than this DW733.Set up was a snap, maybe an hour to remove from the box and double check all adjustments. If you do the basics - keep knives sharp, in and out tables adjusted properly and provide support for long pieces - this machine will give you great results.Snipe is minimal to non-existant. The dust hood & my 650cfm dust collector eliminates 95% of all chips.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product
I bought this planer 10 months ago and just got around to using it.I am impressed!Set up was easy right out of the box.The planer makes super smooth cuts with no snipe.Dewalt has upgraded to a 3 knife model, but it is hard to see how they could improve on this one.The dust hood does a good job with my shop vac attached with very few chips ending up on the table.
The only negative I have found so far is the carrying handles. If you don't carry it level the planer can shift on the telescopic handles and pinch your hand. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars SCAMMED BY DELTA
BEFORE YOU BUY A DELTA SAW PLEASE READ MY REVIEW ABOUT THE DELTA 36-680.TRUST ME ITS WORTH IT AND MAY SAVE YOU FROM WHAT I HAVE TO DEAL WITH.IT TELLS WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT DELTA.ALSO I LOOKED AT THIS SAW AT STORE IN CT. AND THE HEAP I BOUGHT (36-680) LOOKED MUCH BETTER .THE WINGS LOOKED CHEESEY ON THE 36-444 ALSO AND IF I (HAD TO) PICK BETWEEN THE TWO I WOULD GET THE 36-680 $569.IF I KNEW WHAT I KNOW NOW I WOULDNT GET A DELTA AT ALL. THERE ARE PLENTY OF BETTER SAWS OUT THERE.WITH NO SCAMS OR LIES. (WARNING)BEWARE OF OLD SAWS WITH THE LABELS SWITCHED FOR NEW ONES. THIS IS A HONEST REVIEW.GOOD LUCK

3-0 out of 5 stars Great saw but mail order is risky.
If you plan to buy the saw from Amazon, the saw will be delivered by a trucking company because its too heavy for UPS.You'll either need to get help to unload the saw from the truck or open the box in the truck and unload part by part.

The rip fence and fence guide came slightly damaged and I suspect it was damaged even before it left the factory - the box showed no signs of damage but the items were dented.Because the damage wasnt great enough to be worth the hassle of trying to return a 5-foot long box and then have to wait an unknown time for a replacement, I decided to keep it damaged - it leaves a bad taste though.Delta or Amazon probably knew of the damage and was betting (correctly) that it wouldnt be returned

The saw functions beautifully - its sturdy and all the parts that relate to alignment can be adjusted.Couple of minor complains - I wish the blade tilt wheel would have a positive stop at its maximum tilt - as it is now, the wheel feels like its tightening rather than stopping.I also wish the power cable didnt lead out of the dusty inside of the saw - a hole through the side and a rubber grommet would solve that.

If I had to do this again, I would have bought this in a store instead of by mail order so that its easier to return damage parts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Table Saw
I bought this tool at Amazon.com. The extension wings are warped and I could not get the rip fence parallel to the miter slot, so I made my own extension wings and upgraded the fence to a Vega system. Other than that and a few blade adjustments, this system has worked very well for me. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Jet's 12-inch band saw is an affordable machine that would make a great addition to any home workshop. The saw features a fully enclosed, 1/2-horsepower induction motor with a V-belt drive system that turns 2,750 sfpm and has heavy-duty cast-iron and steel components. Parts are well finished and the saw suffers little vibration. It boasts a 6-inch-high and 12-inch-wide cutting capacity, which is more than adequate for a saw of this price and size. The saw comes with an open-base stand that isn't as sturdy as the closed stands featured on larger models but is fine for this smaller-application saw. The saw uses 82-inch blades from 1/8 to 1/2 inch and features the same V-groove guide and steel blade locks found on higher-end Jet saws. The 14-by-14-inch tilting table provides ample work space with plenty of room in front of the blade. We like that the industrial start/stop switch is designed to fit a padlock that helps prevent accidental start-up and discourages unauthorized use of your saw. It comes prewired for 115-volt outlets and is quick to set up. --Justin Paul ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Think twice before you buy...
I recently ordered this bandsaw from Amazon (Tool Crib) for use in my growing collection of woodworking tools. Since my jointer has a max capacity of 6", I couldn't see much need for a bandsaw with a resaw capacity higher than 6". This 12" bandsaw has a max capacity of 6" for resawing.

First the good stuff. The item arrived in excellent condition and when promised. It was well packed and the assembly instructions were simple to follow. The finish is excellent and the adjustments were very easy to make.

Now my concerns: There was a significant amount of vibration when running this saw. I was able to bring the vibration down by making some adjustments to the tracking and the tension on the blade, but I could never get past the feeling that one of the wheels was out of balance. This is really the only complaint I have regarding the performance of the saw however I do want to make an observation.

As I mentioned above I purchased this saw for woodworking and I suppose that if I hadn't been so underwhelmed by the vibration it might have worked fine. But even without the vibration issue, knowing what I know now, I might still stay away from this saw.

Bandsaws, for woodworking at least, seem to fall in to two catagories: hobbiest and woodworking. The hobbiest versions are those small ones that you see sitting on the work bench being used for cutting small pieces of plywood or flat boards. Woodworking versions are the ones you see standing on the floor that are able to do all the flat cutting as well as resawing (to some extent at least).

This saw seems be in the gray zone between hobbiest and woodworker and I don't know if it really comes up to snuff at either. It's more than a hobbiest might need (for size alone) but not really enough for even the semi-serious woodworker. It just doesn't have the "gravity" that I want a machine like this to have.

So, I am sending mine back and having to pick up the return shipping to boot. Not that I blame Amazon. I should have listened to that little voice urging me to spend a bit more. Oh well, hopefully someone can benefit from this review and I can consider this a lesson learned.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a nice saw for the small shop
First band saw for me. Very nice fit and finish, easy to adjust. Plenty of power with no noticable vibration. This saw has a fairly small footprint if you're tight on space, it's very convenient on a mobile base. I installed Cool Blocks on the upper and lower blade-guides and purchased additional blades. Resawed 6" walnut with great success, separated a series of small trim pieces from each other deftly, and cut curves in MDF to make bending-forms. Very pleased with the tool.

Dust collection is a must (a shop-vac works), and a magnetically attached work light is a big help. I wish the tool had been supplied with a rip fence and miter guide. I will probably purchase these two things since I'm tired of clamping wooden fences on the table (although this gets the job done). The stand is fairly lightweight, but is sufficiently stable on the mobile base. The saw is nice and solid and is probably all the tool I will ever need for my amateur furniture-making adventures.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very nice saw
Recieved the saw in good condition.Set up was a breeze. My second Jet tool and I like what I see.Fit and finish is excellent.Saws like a dream.I will look at Jet again. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

A versatile all-in-one machine, this 4-inch belt sander lies horizontally for edge- and face-sanding without the runaway effort of a handheld belt sander, thanks to the sturdy, adjustable, and removable backstop. Or position the belt vertically (or at any angle between 0 and 90 degrees) for contour, bevel, and chamfer sanding--the tables on both sanders tilt to 45 degrees. Use the miter gauge, and you're able to sand in compound angles. The belt sands 2,000 surface feet per minute, and the disc rotates at 3,100 rpm for serious stock removal. A die-cast aluminum base offers stability at a remarkably spare 33 pounds. Predrilled base holes make mounting a simple task. Delta even provided a built-in 2-1/4-inch dust port for connection to a shop vacuum to keep your workshop air clean. Sure, handheld sanders have their place in a woodworker's shop, but add this to your collection and you won't know how you ever got along without it. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value and great for small Projects
I definitely agree with some of the other reviews that this sander is a great value and that its excellent for small projects or as a hobby. I have my own shop and it fits perfectly in for doing the job. Shop around though for the best price. The sander is a great value based on its functionality. And that the belt can be used either vertically or horizantally is definitely a plus. Also replacement belts and disks are well stocked everywhere. Its much esier than some brand that uses a special size or type thats unique to that particular machine. A+++++

2-0 out of 5 stars Motor Burnout
Purchased this sander and used it for light sanding only on small parts. Not many hours of use in two years when the warranty ran out. But so did the motor. It costs more for a motor than the whole sander sobe aware that this is what I would consider a throw away tool.

4-0 out of 5 stars GOOD VALUE
I recently purchased this product.I found the manual to be well thought out and easy to follow.Assembly was straight forward and easy. The unit seems to be fairly well constructed for its size and intended purpose. My only complaint is with the belt which has an overlap seam and can cause considerable thumping in some applications.I would definately reccommend this product for small projects. However, be sure to check everyone's price, as I found one seller to have a price considerably below everyone elses. ... If only we'd had one of these when we built those doll cradles--and sanded all the little curves and crannies by hand! This beauty takes all the work out of jobs like that. No burn marks--ever--because of the oscillating action. Sure, you can chuck a little drum sander into your drill press, but you'll have to deal with that annoying gap between the drum and the table. This sander eliminates that. The large cast-iron table measures 18 inches in diameter and sits atop a 1/4-horsepower single-phase motor. A built-in dust collection fan draws down dust and chips through the table insert and into the dust-collection bag. There's room on board to store all the included accessory sanding drums and sleeves. It's light--just 45 pounds--and can be used as a portable sander or mounted to a stand or workbench through predrilled holes in the base. In addition to the standard 3/4-inch sanding drum and sleeve, the kit includes 1-, 1-1/2-, 2-, and 3-inch rubber spindles, drum plates, abrasive sleeves, and table inserts. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Spindle Sander
My shop is primarily all Delta products. So I wasn't surprised when I opened and setup my new spindle sander that it was excellent. Mine cam with the accessory kit and it did every job that I needed it to do. Setup was straight forward and simple. The cast Iron top makes it nice and stable and it doesn't move around on you. The top is also very large which makes larger projects a breeze. Overall another great product!

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice fit & finish! Questionable long-term reliability.
I've been getting by without a spindle sander by using my drill press and some sanding drums. However, I finally decided I wanted the convenience and efficiency of a dedicated spindle sander. I went with the Delta Boss Spindle Sander (BSS) after looking at the Ryobi, Grizzly, and Jet spindle sanders. It seemed like the way to go in terms of price and performance for an occasional user like myself. I received my Delta BSS from Amazon a few days after ordering it. The very large cast iron table and the overall fit and finish was impressive. After spending about 10 minutes assembling the spindle assembly, I plugged it in and was very disappointed to find out the spindle wasn't oscillating. A quick look at the oscillating assembly at the bottom revealed the nylon gear that drives the oscillating assembly was stripped. Another Amazon reviewer had the same problem. I read his review prior to ordering mine; but, the sheer number of positive reviews convinced me to take a chance. FWIW, I'm sure the vast majority of Delta BSS's work fine right out of the box. However, a little confused why Delta chose to use a nylon gear in this critical area. In any case, I decided to return my Delta BSS rather than replace the nylon gear myself under warranty like the other reviewer elected to do. I may take a chance ordering another Delta BSS--haven't decided yet.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Do It Folks!!!!
After hearing a few horror stories on Delta tools I decided to take a chance and order the BOSS sander. Big mistake. It arrived fine and was packed fine but when I went to try it out I discovered that on the full upstroke the washer under the drum makes contact with and actually raises up the table insert. It is unusable. After waiting 15 minutes on hold on the Delta tech line I was informed that they were aware of the problem and weren't sure how to fix it yet but when they did I would have to drive an hour and a half to a service center and leave it with them and then of course have to drive back when it is ready. I usually purchase higher grade tools than Delta and now I remember why.

    Editorial Review

For those seeking a midsize jointer for the long haul, this 6-inch model is a great find suitable for the professional workplace or serious home woodshop. Powered by Delta's trusted 1-horsepower induction motor, the three-blade drum spins quietly in its cast-iron bed. Adjusting with rack-and-pinion precision, the fence tilts 45 degrees in and out with positive stops at 90 and 45 degrees for beveling and chamfering applications. Delta realizes the use of heavy machinery carries a great risk of injury; consequently, they designed this jointer with a large, easily accessible on/off paddle switch at shoulder height on the right side--a feature for which we have much respect. Thanks to industrial-grade infeed and outfeed tables, even longer 6-inch-wide planks get the support they need as you remove up to 1/2 of an inch of material to the collection port on each pass. So you want to increase your edge on the competition? Delta feels the same way. --Justin Paul ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Fence Biggest Drawback
If it were not for the cheap, cast aluminum fence I would recommend this. I think if you search enough you'll see that this is the single biggest complaint about this.

Suggestion: hold off until you can afford the next Delta model up (I believe that is the 360). It may be 2X the price, but well worth it. Also, the Ridgid is an outstanding buy at $399.00.

5-0 out of 5 stars works for me.
i,ve been using this jointer for about two months now and it is a real joy to use. i,ve heard the other reviews that were not to good, but mine is just great.

4-0 out of 5 stars What's with the pulleys not aligning?
After doing my homework (reading many reviews of 6" jointers in woodworking publications as well this forum), I settled on the Delta. The Jet had caught my eye (I have 3 other Jet machines, and have been impressed with their Quality Control), but in the end I opted for the Delta.

There is no question this is a great 6" jointer, as other reviewers have said. However, there is a design flaw (are you listening, Delta?) mentioned by other reviewers.

Why should I have to reverse the pulleys to get the belt properly aligned?ESPECIALLY SINCE SETUP INSTRUCTIONS EMPHASIZE THE NEED FOR PROPER ALIGNMENT! There, I feel better.

I also have another minor complaint with setup. The third bolt that attaches to the base through the dust chute could be a challenge for big armed, big handed guys.I managed, with very little wiggle room.

Overall, results with this jointer are impressive. Out of the box, the Delta performed flawlessly. No question, I'd give this product 5 stars, if not for the above-mentioned gripes.

I highly recommend purchasing a Delta 22-580K 13" planer to complement the jointer.I did, with no regrets. Now that's a fine product, worthy of 5 stars.

At the end of the day, the jointer and planer make a fine team.
Get past the setup, and this jointer will perform very well for you.No question. ... Read more

A great fit in any serious home workshop, Delta's bench drill press combines safety and versatility with industrial-grade durability for long life. Featuring five speeds from 620 to 3,100 rpm, the 1/3-horsepower induction motor runs coolly and quietly off standard 115-volt outlets. With a 2-3/8-inch stroke length, a tilting cast-iron work plate, and an adjustable depth stop for repetitive drilling, this tool lends itself to a variety of applications. Its 34-inch total height makes this press welcome on tables and benchtops even where ceilings hang low. We were impressed Delta had the foresight to build a removable on/off switch to prevent injury to curious little hands. Though set on a sturdy cast-iron base, the entire press weighs only 78 pounds, so you can comfortably pick it up and move it out of the way if you ever have to rearrange your tool collection. --Justin Paul ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Delta 11-990 12" Bench Drill Press
I purchased the Delta 11-990 drill press for small commercial shop use about two months ago because of very limited space and previous experience with a similar model. The newer model DP300 was temporarily out of stock and the distributor was offering a discount on the 11-990 because technically this model is two years old, even though both have exactly the same specifications. They are the low priced "Shopmaster" grade, manufactured in China, supposedly at Delta owned facilities. The drill press came with a tool tray and magnetic mount worklight. The tool tray was unnecessary for me, so it went in the recycle bin to be reincarnated. The worklight is much more useful when stuck to a 4-11/16" square junction box cover and hung from a hook on the pegboard at the edge of the workbench than on the drill press itself. I have this drill press mounted to a mobile base I made from a Makita 2703XL table saw stand, 3/4" plywood and 2" locking swivel casters. This works great because it gives the proper height and stability for safe operation and it doesn't take up valuable bench space.
The 11-990 was easy to assemble and even came with the bolts to mount it to a stand. The thick oily coating on the parts wiped off cleanly with a rag dipped in regular paint thinner.
I cleaned the spindle and chuck taper bore with acetone before mounting the fully opened chuck with a wood block and mallet and have had no problem with the chuck falling off while in use. The chuck is not a Jacobs or other name brand but the geared collar turns easily by hand without binding for initial bit insertion before tightening with the key. Runout is minimal and I have had no problem with bits slipping in the chuck jaws after tightening.
The drill press runs smoothly and quietly with no vibration or spindle chatter. The motor is a 1/3HP, 1720 RPM, capacitor start.
Delta says the maximum hole size in steel with an HSS bit is 3/8" but I have used it on several occasions to drill 1/2" holes in 3/8" thick mild steel plate in low speed [620 RPM] without stalling or any sign of motor overheating. It has also been used with a 1-1/2" spade bit to bore holes in 2X and a 3-1/2" hole saw in 1X and 3/4" plywood. Changing the five belt positions is simple and only requires loosening one thumbscrew. The speed range is 620-3100 RPM.
The table swivels 360-degrees and tilts somewhat easily by removing the locking pin and loosening a 3/4" hex bolt. Rockler sells a ratcheting handle for about five dollars that supposedly fits this table and replaces the bolt, eliminating the need for a 3/4" socket wrench. I think I will probably try it.
The 4" Delta 20-622 vise is also a nice accessory if you drill metal frequently. I have it permanently mounted to the table with 1/2" bolts at a slight angle to the chuck.
Overall, I feel the 11-990 is a good value. For less than two hundred dollars, it seems surprisingly well made and should be able to meet the demands of most small shop or home use.

4-0 out of 5 stars You better check your manual
I am impressed with this drill press.I think it operates very well.It is quite and smooth during operation.I agree with one review that the light is a good idea, but it slides and won't stay in place. The others that commented and said that everything is loose, "You better check your manual" you must have done something wrong.

2-0 out of 5 stars really disappointed, but only ($$$)
based on the reviews, there seems to be two completely different schools of thought on this product. My vote goes with "junk".Everything is very loose, the chuck is not true, so it turns in an eliptical motion (instead of a circle) and while I haven't had problems with the chuck falling off, the method of installation called for in the instructions "pound it in with a rubber mallet" --seriously!--makes me certain it is only a matter of time. Also, you have to tighten the chuck with the key extremely hard and the bits still slip nearly every time. ... Remember that annoying workplace slogan, "Your parents don't work here--clean up after yourself"? Well, with the Delta 1,200 cfm dust collector, you've got a powerful, well-built machine to keep the shop clean. Built with a 1-1/2-horsepower induction motor for long life and curved steel impellers for durability, this dust collector whisks away debris from tools' dust ports with surprising force, so the only thing collecting particles around the shop might be your old broom resting in the closet. Set on a sturdy caster base for easy mobility, the dust collector stands 88 inches tall and has two intake ports for collecting simultaneously from multiple machines. The large 6-cubic-foot bags will reduce your trips to the trash and filter the air of particles down to 30 microns. For cleaner air, you can always upgrade to 5- or 1-micron bags. This is a great tool for any midsize woodworking shop. --Justin Paul ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Just can't see 5 Stars for this thing...
I see most reviewers are very happy with their DC and rate it high... Having owned and used other collectors I find this unit acceptable. Powerful as it may be it does run LOUD.. Don't care what others think... the unit is LOUD..Yes you can talk over it but running a saw the same time is more noise then I expected.... Delta fit and finish is so...so...ie., spot welds rather then full weld.. crappy upper bag hanger, crappy lower bag stand supports... besides that, Delta provides a "grab-bag" of nuts and bolts... You end up short with the nuts and end up extra on the washers and bolts?!My unit is attached to 4" PVC manifold and really works good... but just a little better then my JET 650 CFM did... My wife likes it alot and if she's happy, I'm happy... All and all for the price of the unit I don't think you can do better and Delta is a good company that stands behind their oversea's made products..If it were prefect in EVERY respect then I would give it 5 full stars but it isn't...

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Value for the price
Finally received my Dust Collector, and it was worth all the wait.Really happy that the unit now comes standard with the 1 micron bags.I do plan on upgrading to the 1 micron bagswhen the 5 wears out. Some have mentioned that the dual 1 micron bags allow the machine to breath a little better too. This DC has plenty of power. So far I've used it with my tablesaw, bandsaw and router station with much sucess. This machine is a solid buy, Enjoy your cleaner shop!

3-0 out of 5 stars It was wonderful while it worked
This is a powerful vacuum. I bought mine 2 years ago. Unfortunately, about a month ago, the vacuum sucked in some small oak blocks from the table saw. The oak blocks, about 3/4" square by 3 inches long, slammed against the fins inside, dented the cover and slightly bent the fin wheel. I heard a loud clang and that was all, the unit kept working.

Soon after, I discovered that crash caused the fin blade to go out of balance. Now it is burning through start capacitors within hours. It is so bad that I am giving up on it and buying another vacuum.

I would get another 50-850, because it is a good product for the money. But of course, I'm not happy with the motor and the vulnerable, delicate design. Long-term durability is clearly this product's weakness. And, I'm dissatified with the flimsy structure, which makes the unit hard to move around.

I like my Delta tools but I don't love them. ... Read more

All right-angle drill drivers are not the same. Sure, they get the same job done--but it’s how easy the tool makes the job that sets the brands apart. This DeWalt model that comes with our highest recommendation. Powered by DeWalt’s system of nice, compact 14.4-volt batteries, the tool boasts a tight, thoughtful design. The best feature, we think, is what DeWalt calls its "multi-grip trigger." The trigger is as long as your little finger, and the lower section of handle is textured for a sturdy grip, allowing you to get the tool up into a tight workspace with an extended reach that the other brands don’t offer. Another advantage, if you have smaller hands: the easy-to-grip battery is slides on and off easily. Two speed ranges, 0 to 400 and 0-1,250 rpm, offer you lots of applications. The drill is tough enough for the pro and feature-friendly enough for the do-it-yourselfer--we can envision this making quick work of a ducting project at home or on the job.Installing drawer guides in a case piece? No problem with this DeWalt. It can even handle larger bits and fasteners with its 210 inch-pounds ofmaximum torque. Two batteries, a one-hour charger, and a hard-plastic carrying case round out a great package. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, highly useful tool
I love this drill! It was absolutely invaluable for working in the tight angles and narrow spaces I encountered during an extensive kitchen remodel I completed this last summer. I find lots of other uses as an avid woodworker too. Although DeWalt makes an 18-volt version my regular drill/driver has interchangeable power packs for this model. The 14.4-volt batteries last plenty long, have sufficient power for my needs, and recharge quickly. It comes with two batteries so I haven't had any downtime. I found the variable speeds easy to control with the "multi-grip" trigger. The keyless chuck is very convenient and the two clutch settings are essential for switching between drilling/driving applications. Set properly, it always had enough torque for either job. It is very ergonomic with great weight and balance: while it is much easier to control with two hands, it can be used with only one in a pinch (at least for drilling, anyway).

4-0 out of 5 stars Exactly right
This drill is a great combination of size & power.I use it for all kinds of stuff.Hogging through studs for electrical, pocket drilling in tight spaces, driving screws, etc.

The more I use it the more I like it.I considered the 9.6v makita but was concerned that it wouldn't have the staying power to drill lots of holes through studs (this was the case for the non standard 9.6v makita). Also I wanted the slow speed this drill provides.

Eventhough this drill was a bit pricy I am glad I choose it.It is serving me quite well.

I only wish it had a clutch for driving screws. This keeps me from giving it 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why did we not buy this sooner!
We install a lot of kitchens, this pays for its self when putting in a 12" wide or less cabinet, trying to secure the face frames. If you can justify it the budget it is well worth it! These days, almost all professionals and do-it-yourselfers rely on a cordless drill/driver--and for good reason. Take the DeWalt 14.4-volt 3/8-inch cordless compact drill/driver kit. It features a 3/8-inch keyless ratcheting chuck, two gear settings (low torque/high speed and high torque/low speed), and a variable speed trigger switch with electric brake. Powered by a DeWalt-built Series 3000 motor, the unit delivers 350 in./lbs. of maximum torque and speeds of 0-400 and 0-1,400 rpm. An 18-position clutch makes it easy to match the drill's torque setting to the precise application for even better results. Even with all its power, the DeWalt drill/driver is still comfortable to hold and offers good overall control. An all-metal 5-5-5 planetary gear transmission and solid construction throughout help to ensure a longer tool life, another definite plus for this hard-working performer.--Carl Thress ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good solid light weight drill
I bought this drill at lowes for $75.00 with 2 batteries and case. At 4.2 lbs it feels like a feather compared to my monster 18v Bosch hammerdrill(6.7 lb). It seems to have all of the power I need, and it can handle the bigger bits.It is a real arm
    saver.
Dewalts new compact series drill has more power than the 928,but also weighs several ounces more. The 928 is the most comfortable drill I have ever used.
I have found that the 928 has several limitations.
    1. Limited runtime, while the 928 can use the big bits,it can't drill nearly as many holes as my 18v Bosch, this would probably apply to most 14.4v drills.
    2. Two sleve chuck,Single sleeve is better.
    3. Poor finish, The seam between the two body halves, are poorly finished, and are irratating in the handle area. I have noticed this on many of Dewalts Mexican made tools. My bosch on the on the other hand the body is perfectly finished.
All in all,it is a fine drill,if you can get one at a good price(like I did). Remember,The current drill goes for about $170.00 in most stores,I only paid $75.00. I have learned that when at home depot or lowes, always to check the return rack.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Upgrade
This is a replacement for my old 9.6V.Did not want to go up in voltage because of the balance and wieght of my 9.6V.Wrong answer.
The DW928 is well balanced and the weight is not noticable. The speed switch works easily. Which is a great improvement in the cordless line. Others i have looked at were hard to move. Many more clutch settings over my old one.
Battery life is unreal.Really gave it a workout.Good Job DeWalt
I would highly recommend this drill if 14 Volt is your game.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a very powerful drill!
When I began looking around for a replacement for my 9.6v DeWalt cordless drill, I assumed I would be buying a 12v DeWalt. My 9.6v almost always had the power to do what I asked of it, so 12v seemed the next logical step. Then I found this 14.4v drill for an incredible price at a day-after-Thanksgiving sale (Lowes). In fact, the 99 bucks I paid for this drill is less that what I paid for my 9.6v 8+ years ago!

After using this drill on a couple of projects I can say two things with all honesty.First of all this drill is not overly heavy (I was worried about that), and second, it has power to spare.I suspect that the torque this drill provides is overkill for driving screws in most applications - afterall I was happy with the screw driving abilities of my 9.6v.However, it is very nice to have that torque when you are drilling through wood with big bits.

Basically, this drill is a very strong performer. The charger is well made, I have had no problems with it or the batteries, and the case is well made.If you have need for this kind of power or you find a good deal like I did, I highly recommend that you make this purchase! ... Read more

    Editorial Review

When it's time to step up to a bigger router, Porter-Cable's 7518 should be on your list of contenders. It has as powerful a motor as you can find on a router and a reputation for accuracy and dependability. It's designed to work with bits as large as 4 inches in diameter and has electronic soft start and five speeds, to ensure that you'll be able to use those giant panel cutters safely and smoothly. The large bit capacity also makes it a great poor man's shaper when mounted on a good router table. Like most of Porter-Cable's routers, this model features their autorelease collet system, which does a good job of eliminating the problem of frozen bits and the need for rapping on the collet to remove them. Of all the routers we've tried, Porter-Cable's are among those with the lowest vibration and cleanest cuts. One thing we wish Porter-Cable would improve on is the lack of a spindle lock, which means that two wrenches--and potential knuckle wracking--are involved in bit changes. But given that a router's real value is measured by the results it produces, we'd still recommend the 7518 as one of the best routers available and a great choice for any shop. --Brian Trinen ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great for table AND handheld routing
Don't be afraid to take this thing out of the table and use it in your bare hands!

This things works fabulously, both in the table and in my hands. For the table, it's a no brainer... this thing rocks and, being Porter-cable, you will NEVER have a hard time finding accessories. It is the standard.

About the hand-held use though:It's big, but the handles are great, makes getting a good grip on it super-easy.In fact, it's the most comfy fit to my hands that I've found (though I have not tried the Milwaukee 3.25hp router). Also, the weight, solidity, and power of the thing makes it such that it doesn't jump around and jerk like my lighter 1 3/4 HP Dewalt.Between its weight and power, it's actually a fantastic hand router, and cuts any wood (as a previous poster stated) "like butter".

I've used it for fairly delicate, precision work in tight areas as well and the really big stuff.Heck, The only time I've even made a bit chirp was when I was using a 2" long, 1/2" flush trim bit on the full thickness of solid 1.75" alder, and I was "trimming" just about the full diameter of the bit... that was just plain stupid of me.The router barely seemed to notice... the bit, however... well, it's resting in "piece(s)".

I would not necessarily want it as my only router in the shop.If it were my only one, I'd go with a 2 1/4 hybrid, because there are definitely times you do need something more manuverable for light trim work. But, if you have the option to buy two (or already have one) having a small packaged 1 3/4hp (or even PC's little 7/8"hp deal) partnered with this one, then you have a near unbeatable routing setup.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for handheld work too
A lot of people have reviewed this router so I'll just add something new that I didn't see in other reviews. Many people are using this router primarily for router table work.I use it for handheld work too and find its considerable weight to be advantageous there, because it helps keep the router on top of the work. And it cuts like butter. Also the router's power seems to prevent the kind of sudden jumps that smaller motor routers are prone to.

5-0 out of 5 stars The industry standard
If you don't like horsepower and beefiness, than you may want to buy something else.On the other hand, if you want the toughest, most powerful router you can get, than this ones for you. This router was designed to be used in a router table with big bits. I have owned this router for 9 years. I make raised panel doors for a living. This tool has never failed me.I've been through three router tables, but only one router.Porter Cable could easily jack the price up on this router and it would have no problem selling. I own 7 routers. If I could only have one, it would be this one. ... Read more

Hook-and-loop abrasives on this sander will take off tons ofstock for you at 80 grit and leave a swirl-free finish at 120 to 150.Five dust-extraction holes in the pad pull the sawdust away and intothe dust-collection canister, which is big enough to let you work for along time without emptying it, but not so big that it's in the way. Youcan also connect it to your vacuum system. An easy thumb wheel controlsthe speed, which ranges from 5,000 to 12,000 orbits per minute. It'squiet and easy to handle. These features alone make it a great choice, but here's the smartest thing Porter-Cable did with this little gem: apad brake will immediately slow the revolutions to 400 per minute whenthe unit is lifted off the work surface. This helps prevent gaugingwhen you lift the sander off or place it back on the work surface. 1-0 out of 5 stars Coincidence or poor quality ?
I must start by saying that I know people who purchased Porter Cable random orbit sanders years ago that got good service out of them. However, in the past year every one I have seen has worn out within a month. I run a cabinet shop. four of my employees (skilled cabinet makers) bought new Porter Cable r.o. sanders last year. Every one of them either had a motor or bearing burn out within a month. Two of them were replaced by the dealer with new sanders, which also lasted about a month. The other two were not replaced because the bearings are not covered by the warranty. When I politely contacted Porter Cable about this, they said too bad, so sad. Have had the 333VS for about one year and am very satisfied with the sander's overall performance.Very aggressive at coarser grits yet silky smooth finishes using finer grits.Had to replace the sanding pad, P/N13909, after about 8-hours of operation as the pad would no longer hold sanding disks. The sander is used mostly on flat stock in preparation and finishing of furniture construction projects.Other than the machines weight, very little if any pressure is ever placed on the machine during operation.I know of only one other woodworker who has experienced the same pad problem.Have any of you woodworkers out ther experienced it?If so, please let me know if I'm the problem or the pad is.At ~$18.00/pad, it could get expensive if it is a recurring problem.I'll find out with my new replacement pad.Porter Cable informed me the pad should last approximately 25-30 hours under normal conditions. In spite of my problem, I'd still recommend purchasing the 333VS.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the quality the brand name and price make you expect
I thought I had ordered a premium product, but I returned it right away, as the quality didn't keep up with the price.
I really liked the idea of this dust container instead of these cloth bags elsewhere.
But for a price that is almost twice of other brands (you can also get a nice variable speed sander for $50-$70) I would expect flawless manufacturing quality. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Porter-Cable's 3-by-21-inch belt sander features an all-metal housingthat gives the tool a solid feel, makes it tough to damage, and lets you sandeffectively without having to press down. This sander also does a great job ofkeeping belts centered, a terrific bonus because there's nothing morefrustrating that having to constantly re-center a belt. According toPorter-Cable, the all-metal housing accounts for the centered placement of the belts. The sander remains rigid, even during heavy use, and the metal helps dissipateheat, keeping the belt relatively cool and in place.

This sander also has a variable-speed dial that lets you match the speed of thebelt with the application, so you can speed up for aggressive removal or dialdown for more precision. We really like the 360-degree adjustable top dustnozzle--a feature you won't find on many belt sanders--because it lets you pivotthe dust bag (or hose if you're hooked up to a dust vac), a huge conveniencewhen sanding in corners or along edges. And, lastly, this is a quietsander, thanks both to Porter-Cable's newly designed gear system, which meshesmore accurately, and to the sander's serpentine drive belt, which makesconsiderably less noise than a more common cog system. For a belt sander, thistool is surprisingly easy on the ears, and that's a very good thing. --JonGroebner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great belt sander
I bought this sander after having bad luck with the Dewalt 3x21 belt sander.---After many hours of using the PC352vs, I will have to say--THIS IS A KEEPER!.Very well made, powerful, sands smoothly with better balance than I expected. It is made and runs just as well as my 4x24 porter cable sander. I now have four Porter Cable sanders--two orbitals and two belt sanders--they all have been great performers. I highly recommend Porter Cable sanders!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good sander
I picked one of these up in exchange for a DeWalt that died after a half hour of use.So far it lasted the afternoon.I used it to sand a workbench top.

The dust collection was very good. When I finished I had a couple of pounds of dust in the bag.

1-0 out of 5 stars OPEN DRIVE DRUM
I agree that this is a powerful sander. Has anyone else had
any type of problem with the open drive drum? Some users have had the power cord get sucked into the sander.
    Thanks and HAPPY HOLIDAYS

    Editorial Review

One of the first companies to design plate joiners, DeWalt makes one powerful slot-cutting tool. Some people argue that joiners are joiners, and while it's true that a slot is a slot, how you cut it makes a heck of a lot of difference. What impresses us about DeWalt's plate joiner is the stout, dual rack-and-pinion fence. Operating with striking smoothness, the fence locks tightly in place and ensures that the joiner's blade and fence are always parallel--which means accurate joints every time. The DeWalt is also the only plate joiner on the market with a fully adjustable tilt fence: the face plate tilts 0 to 90 degrees, so you can join work at whatever angle the job requires (22-1/2 degrees, say, if you're working in octagons). Cabinetmakers will appreciate the convenience of being able to make flush cuts at 0 degrees without having to remove the fence. The 6-1/2 amp motor spins the tool's carbide blade at 10,000 rpm, making remarkably quick, clean cuts. We found the gauges easy to read and easy to set, a big plus (there's nothing worse than wrestling with or squinting at a tool every time you make adjustments). DeWalt's joiner also has preset stops for all common biscuit sizes and there's a handy vacuum adapter that allows you to hook up suction to keep dust in the shop to a minimum--always a good idea. --Jon Groebner ... 4-0 out of 5 stars best choice for moderate use
I won't bore you with repeating the specs or features of the biscuit joiner as the other reviews cover them quite well. I've had this tool for about 6 months now and am delighted with it. I had the porter cable model which is quite a bit more expensive. I found it to be bulkier to use than the DeWalt and a lot more likely to slip away from your alignment marks than the DeWalt. This cutter has pins on both sides of the blade that go a long way to help keeping the cutter in line with the wood.. The only drawback is that the dust chute will clog with the dust bag installed when cutting into long grained softwoods.
Having owned both the porter cable and the Dewalt I must give a big nod to the DeWALT. Smaller and easier to use and a few $$ less.

5-0 out of 5 stars Suprise, suprise
Just received my DW682K.Opened the main shipping box and I was plesantly suprised to find a box of 1000 Porter Cable assorted biscuits. Then I opened the actual Joiner case, and found a set of four Dewalt wood chisels inside in it's own handy carrying case. There was no mention of either of these in the product writeup.Haven't plugged it in yet, but for $149.00, free shipping, and my added "bonuses", how can I go wrong? Not sure if everyone has or is going to get the extras, but I'm one happy camper right now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good compressor.
I do various home repairs on my own home and I needed a good quality air compressor for my nail guns. A friend of mine recommended the oil fill type as apposed to the oil-free version because of the life expectancy of oil-free. I have had the compressor for about 6 months and it has performed very well. It's a little louder than I expected, but not that bad.I'm very pleased.

5-0 out of 5 stars The norm for DeWalt Tools
I had a Porter Cable 4 Gal., 2H.P. Pancake compressor and just wasn't satisfied with the performance, especially since I was accustomed to the Quality and professional performance from DeWalt. The PC just wouldn't keep up with my work in my shop. I took it back and purchased the D55151 DeWalt and, of course, am satisfied again. Truly, DeWalt lives up to the advertisement, "Guaranteed Tough"! One can not go wrong purchasing this Compressor for shop or light commercial work. You may pay a little more but the quality built into every DeWalt tool I have makes it worth every penny!

2-0 out of 5 stars you can keep it
I purchased this nailer shortly after it first came out. I used it commercially for installing cabinets. It failed me miserably.
The gun would not even drive 1 5/8 inch brads consistently. The increased power setting was an extreme hassle and still did not help. The only thing good about the gun is it feels solid and emits an almost gunsmokish scent. I gave the $200+ tool to a friend and bought a portercable which works.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Nailer!
I started to grab my 16gauge Paslode to nail my face frame on a base cabinet I have built for my shop. It dawned on me that I had received this Senco FP25XP for X-MAS. I plugged it onto my air hose, gave a few test fires into some scrap 3/4" Oak plywood and started nailing. It is so lite and easy to use, you almost think that you have a toy in your hands. A very, very nice one!
It shoots through 3/4" Red Oak into 3/4" plywood with no effort. It has sunk every single nail perfectly. It has a "Boost Button" on the side for extra power if needed, but I have not had to use it as of yet. One other side note I have noticed, is that my 2h
