    Editorial Review

A great carpenter once referred to sawdust as "the indomitable scourge silently mounting in woodshops nationwide." Well, now you can fight back with Jet's 1,100 cfm dust collector. Running a powerful 1-1/2-horsepower induction motor on either 115 or 230 volts, this handy shop tool comes standard with 7.36-cubic-foot bags that collect particles 30 microns and larger. The thickness of the 12-inch steel blower wheel is great for handling larger particle-producing applications. As is standard on most models, two 4-inch dust ports feed into a main 6-inch tube, allowing you to connect it to multiple machines. For convenience, Jet has placed the entire unit on easy-to-roll casters, so it can be moved around the shop when necessary. One unique feature separating Jet's dust collector from the competition is how easily the lower bag can be removed and reattached. The bag is held securely in place by a flexible metal band, so it pops in and out without the hassle of cinch straps you'll find on other models. Standing 96 inches tall and pulling 5.34 cubic feet of air, this machine is perfect for medium-to-large shops. A good dust collector, like this one, improves your workplace environment and also extends the life of your tools--two pretty compelling reasons to get one for your shop. --Justin Paul ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars MOTOR IS A NO GO....
Purchased this tool March 2, 2002.I have it hooked up on a garage dust collection system with standard blast gates. It pulled fairly well and I really enjoyed using it.I think I may have emptied the bag 5 or 6 times so I would't say it was used extensivly. The motor recently shorted out just past it's 2 1/2 year.I couldn't figure out why, but it did.The warranty only lasts 2 years and to replace the motor cost approx. 3/4 the cost of the new unit.Needless to say, I didn't replace the motor and ended up buying a Powermatic 75.Maybe its just bad luck, but I find the Powermatic products to be better built and worth the extra money. No more Jet products of me...I just hope that Jet doesn't change the Powermatics.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Chip Collector.
The Unit was easy to assemble.I had trouble finding the base which turned out to be at the bottom of the box.It was bent, and it is not a thin gauge either. With a great deal of effort I half bent it back into shape. The rest of the assembly went well.I wired it for 250V as per the manual and plugged it in and turned it on.KRRRRRRRRUUUUUNNNNNNNK.Ouch! A loud noise caused me to immediately turn it off. After double checking the wiring I realized that the manual had the incorrect wiring diagram for 250V and that there was a correct diagram on the motor itself.Nice unit, professional paint, fit and finish. It is not quiet but does collect dust and chips pretty well.I will invest in a 5 micron bag next.

3-0 out of 5 stars Quiet? Not Mine.
I don't think this tool can be described as "Quiet". Yes. It has less noise than my ear piercing Ridgid shop vaccume, but I wouldn't call it quiet. I am not sure how can you do a normal conversation with this machine on. I have two other problems. The top bag has dusk leaking at the sealing and lower bag is very difficult to remove.

Am I just unlucky? ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't fit normal trash can!
I'm not sure what giant trash can this is designed for, but not any one you can buy at home depot. It is a constant hassle adjusting the lid so that you can maintain suction. As mentioned before attaching your hoses is pretty sloppy with lots of suction loss as well.I guess with some modifications it may work better, but if I'd wanted to make my own I would have do it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Bad quality
Concept is good and work OK but size is wrong and does not fit 20" can (overhangs it). Major problem, the entry and exit holes do are simply "holes"... no place to attach 4" tubing. You have to really imporvise to make these connections.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as pictured........
First off let me say that it works and that it does so pretty well. However.....the item is certainly not as pictured. The way it fits my 30 gal metal trash can reminds me of a little kid trying to walk in his/her parents shoes! Waaaay too big, overhanging each side by probably 6" or so. I finally had to bungee it on the can so that it would stay in place. As an earlier review noted, connection of the hoses is not that easy either. If you have the clear, wire-reinforced hoses you can thread them in like a screw. Otherwise you may need to add some sort of connector. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Permanent Clamp
I recommend these clamps to anyone who needs to permanently clamp their 4" hose to an outlet, adapter, inlet, etc. They form a good tight seal and do not fall off once properly tightened down.
I would not recommend these type clamps for an application where you would be moving the hose to different tools or positions.Reason being, one you would have to get your screw driver or socket wrench out, and two because the wear and tear of the clamp tightening on the hose over and over again would eventually wear a hole in the hose.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Clamp for Fixed Hoses
Good quality clamp. Well made without sharp edges. Threads worked flawlessly. Dual ring securely attaches dust hose to any connection.

However, the bolt head sticks out about 2". This is not a problem on fixed position installations, but it is inconvenient for portable dust hoses. For the rare end connection that will be moved from machine to machine use the standard hose clamps with a low profile blue handle.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hands Down - The Best Clamp
I read other reviews before purchasing this clamp and am really glad I did. What I like is that the wires make great contact between the ribs of the hose and screw down very tight. Later I purchased the flat band kind from a local store and agree that this wire type is much better. It's much beefier than I thought it would be. Definitely the best clamp I've come across. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good Hose, Great For the Purpose
This hose fits the standard 4" couplings snugly. The nice thing is that it will not get damaged by accidentally stepping on it. It springs back. It is light enough to be used as a movable hose for picking up a pile of sawdust. It isn't affected by a strong vacuum, so it is strong enough to not collapse without springing back. Nice job Jet. It is a wire reinforced hose.
The wire clamps are the best to secure it. Typical band clamps, like the type that are used for water hoses are not suggested. They spread themselves over the coiled wire. Such a wire is not meant to collapse. The wire clamps on the other hand are meant to slide down in between the wires, meeting with the plastic hose material, enabling the preferred compression directly onto the sleeve. Jet makes nice wire clamps as well.
    Overall highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works Great!
I use several of these hoses in my shop to connect power tools to my Jet vacuum system. They work great. They work the best with the wire clamps. I recommend using a distribution of rigid plastic or metal pipe to get to the woodworking machine, then use one of these hoses to connect the machine to the rigid system. These hoses also can be used to vacuum the floor or other areas but are a bit clumsey due to the large diameter.

    4-0 out of 5 stars Don't Get Hosed !!
This is an excellent Dust Collection Hose.It does measure a consistent 4" and always fit easily over the connection fitting. It is somewhat flexible and very rigid, but will not coil back into itself. This might be a problem if you move your equipment back and forth.

The other hose options are a Clear Hose, which allows you to see any possible clugs and air blocks in the DC system. And there is a 50 foot coil hose, which is not as rigid, but it is sturdy and it will coil back into itself, allowing for the movement of machinery.

I used all three in my DC system. The clear hose where large particles would be generated (lathe, bore machine), the 10 foot rigid hose in areas that would always remain fixed in location. And the 50 foot coil hose (cut up, of course) on machine that I move back and forth from the wall to the garage floor.I don't have endless space in the garage for all the "needed" equipment I have to use.

All three hoses work just fine, no problems, no issues. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pricey but works well
Yes, it is expensive for hose. This does work really well though and it probably some of the best hose on the market...... Very flexible (some types are stiff) and the ability to see into the hose is (nearly) priceless! Had something get stuck in mine last night. Would have never known until it became a bigger problem if I could not see that little piece of wood!

5-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for!
This is the best hose that i have found to date.It does cost more money but it performs well.I have two sets.I also have the 6" hose.It is best to use the wire style clamps to retain the hose to the machine or dust pipe.I have seen these hose used on big molders with six heads.Hope this helps your choice of hose.
    Thanks, Weyer Service

2-0 out of 5 stars Can it be cost justified??
In comparision to the counterpart black hose, the only advantage I can think of is that you can see thru this hose to easily identify where any possible clogs are located. With the black hose you have to use trial and error, and possible take the entire DC system apart to find the clog. With the clear hose, you can see it and go right to the problem spot.Is this worth almost double the price of a black hose?

That can only be answered by the user.I'm using the clear hose only off of machinery where large chips are make, my lathe and bore machine (drill press).Other than that, I opted for the cheaper black hose.I also have those two machines located the closest to the dust collection machine, so the hose length, and chip travel, is the least possible. ... Editorial Review

You can tell from the price that this is not the choice for industrial-grade users, but it's a decent enough hose for the home woodworker who's using a wet-dry vac or small dust-collection system. We like that it's so flexible, turning corners in a small shop without struggle. And we like that it retracts to a fraction of its extended length, saving lot of space. We wouldn't recommend connection to a larger dust-collection system, though, because the material is not rigid enough to withstand a huge amount of suction. Though we didn't experience any collapse during suction, we think it's possible with a larger machine. Still, it's a nice, sturdy hose for the home woodworker, and the price is right.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value
I considered for my small shop adding a permanent system with grounded PVC ductwork, but decided to go with the quick disconnect on the end of a flexible hose instead (much much cheeper with less planning required).
    So far so good.
I recommend grounding the wire that is in the the hose, the hose can and will build up static electricity which at the least is a little jarring when it discahrges on you (or worse causes a fire).

5-0 out of 5 stars Good value
Like so many other reviewers have said, this is a good value. The hose does have a tendency to collapse on its self, but this is not a problem when hooked up to a machine.I also took the advice of one of the other reviewers to let it air out before hooking it up.I have 5" metal ducting and it turns out that a 4" S&D (sewer and drain) pipe fits just inside the metal blast gate and this hose will stretch enough to go over this same piece of PVC.The less flexible clear hose won't do this, so this turned out to be an extra bonus for buying this hose.I've got enough hose to pretty much hook up my whole shop and use the 4" clear hose for moving between portable tools and hand vacuuming.Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase.

2-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
I have a 2HP system and this hose will collapse in many situations. It can be useful in short runs as a branch between the machine and the main vac line, but will collapse if it is part of the main line.
If you locate your blast gate BETWEEN this hose and the vac, you should be OK. The plastic is very thin, so don't use it in exposed locations where users may rub against it or cutoffs might fall on it. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Cost Way TOO Much
These are the same product and quality that you can buy from various sources, but these are 1/3 again as much!!

No matter whos' you buy expect to have to use some silicon to seal them up or they will leak mercilessly.

1-0 out of 5 stars What?No knob? JET must kidding!
About a year ago, I bought a bumch of these when I bought my first dust collector. They were equipped with a screw knob that is used to hold the gate open.

Well, I just bought a new oscillating spindle sander, so I also bought a new blastgate. JET changed the design! They now use a bolt instead of a knob.

This change must be one of the dumbest ideas ever. The purpose of a blastgate is so that you can EASILY divert air flows. Changing to a 1/4" boltmakes it nearly impossible to open and clase the blastgates. If you have arthritis, you need to get a wrench to open the blastgate.

So, I replaced the bolt with a knob that I had lying around the shop.

Note that currently the picture shows the bolt but the item descriptions says there is a knob. The item decription is wrong.

Also, the sliding doors often get stuck. I'm not sure why this happens--probably a wood chip gets lodged in the track--but damn, is it annoying. Stopping work to disassemble a blast gate is a huge time waster.

Also, at $13 each, this is really expensive.

1-0 out of 5 stars wasted my money
I bought these plastic blastgates because they were cheaper than aluminum. What a waste of money!I broke two of them while installing, the slots jam up with chips, and they cannot be taken apart for cleaning. As my funds allow, I will be replacing the plastic with aluminum.

5-0 out of 5 stars What's all the whining about?
I've used these blastgates for about a year in my home basement workshop and have never had a problem. I'll admit I don't use the shop every day, but for the casual user, these gates work great! I have about 4 of these in use. Most of the gates are connected on a hose or pipe in a vertical position (where the gate control is horizontal). This might help the problem that others on this forum seem to be complaining about (with dust collecting in the gate slot). As far as the taper goes, I'll agree the design doesn't need to be tapered. However, using the wire hose clamps tightened securely, I've never had one come off when I didn't want it to.

1-0 out of 5 stars dust jammer
i wish i had read the reviews about clogging.fine dust rapidly accumulates in the grooves the gate slides in and makes closure impossible.works fine on my router table and planer (i guess the chips are too big to get stuck in the small crannies) but any tool making dust will clog in short time ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Does a Great Job
When installing a dust collection system, eliminating resistance to airflow is what it is all about. The ideal is as large a pipe as possible, flowing in a straight line, without any ridges in the surface. Of course in the real world at least some of these things wind up being less than ideal. What this Jet 4" Y-connector does, is give you a large pipe, that makes a gradual Y as opposed to a straight 90 degree angle T, and the sides of the connector are smooth. So when you need to divide your air source into two lines, this elbow does the nicest job.
The advantage of incorporating a Y connector into your system, is that you can take a single air source, connect this Y connector to it, a pair of gates, and no longer have to switch your hoses between two different pieces of equipment. All you do is open the gate to one, and close it to the other. All in all highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Strong Link in the DC Chain
This is a good connector for a DC system. Not a complicated piece, but a very good one. The ends were all 4" , the hose fit snuggly and the wire clamps held.

When making a branch in the DC system, to go to several different pieces of equipment, the "Y" connection is better to use than the "T".The Y will allow for a better air flow.Combine the Y with a/several blast gates, then it's almost like having a single hose go to each piece of equipment. ... I AM A HEAD PORTER SO I KNOW AIRFLOW.YOU WILL GET BETTER AIR FLOW JUST BENDING YOU HOSE.WHEN THEY SAY IT IMPROVES AIRFLOW THEY ARE WRONG AND HAVE KNOW IDEA WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT AND I WONDER IF THEY OWN PART OF THE COMPANY .THE INNER DIAMETER IS REDUCED TO 3 INCHES OR LESS BY A VERY SHARP CORNER SLOWING DOWN AND REDUCING AIRFLOW ALOT. IF YOU DO BUY THIS POORLY DESIGNED ELBOW. TAKE A FILE OR DREMMEL TOOL TO SMOOTH OUT THE RIDGE. THAT WILL INCREASE AIRFLOW ALOT.ESPECIALY IF YOU HAVE A WEEK DUST COLLECTOR YOU NEED TO.IT WILL ADD ABOUT 300CFM OR MORE AIRFLOW. THATS LIKE CAMPARING A 700CFM CARB. TO A 1000CARB.ITS A BIG DIFFERANCE.IF YOU DONT HAVE TO BEND YOUR HOSE AS MUCH AS THE ELBOW DONT USE IT. AIRFLOW IS MORE VALUBLE THEN LOOKS.ANYONE SAYING THERE ARE NO RIDGES IN THIS ELBOW WELL THATS A PLAN OUT (LIE)AND REDICULOUS. THIS WAS A HONEST REVIEW. GOOD LUCK

I attached this elbow directly to the intake port of my Jet dust collector. If you don't suspend your 4" hose from above, then using this elbow allows you to run the flex hose horizontally to a piece of equipment (also saving hose length). May not be completely necessary, but it does take the stress off the hose, especially if you move it around a lot. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Wide Mouth Suction
If the machine does not have a DC port, then this is the thing you want. It's about 5" x 9" with a 4" hose connection, best of all, it has bolt holes so it can be connected to your work bench or a mount.

I have two collection intakes in use, one on the lathe and the other by the drill press. I plan on adding a third to the end of the workbench, just sweep the debris to the end of the table to be sucked up. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It Does the Trick
This flange for a table saw works great.Pulls most of the dust from the table saw down and into the DC system. The flange, mounted upside down, on the table saw allows for a dust connection from the bottom of the table saw. It's underneath, so it is out of the way of any sawing going on, and will collect almost all the dust generated.

The only negative was, there are no mounting holes, had to drill them myself, but it was no problem.I guess this allows it to be used for many different table saws....... ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not terribly great
What's the point. I can get spare wire and wire nuts to ground my system far cheaper than this. i find the braided copper hard to deal with and am far happier using spare romex I have lying around the shop. Do yourself a favor and make one of these yourself. ... Read more
