    Editorial Review

Canon's 18x50 IS binoculars incorporate an optical image stabilizer forshake-free viewing and minimal eye fatigue. This technology was first developedfor Canon video camcorders and is now available in many of Canon's binoculars. The system employs a Vari-Angle Prism, dual transparent plates, independentvertical and horizontal sensors, and a dedicated microprocessor to continuouslyadjust the prism to maintain a steady image.

The 18x50 IS binoculars feature awater-resistant, shock-resistant rubber coating for a nonslip grip and betterdurability. If you get caught in the rain and still want to view, you don't haveto worry about the optics fogging up. These binoculars deliver highmagnification and wide-field viewing. Controls for focusing and imagestabilization are centrally located and accessible by both hands. Thesebinoculars provide long eye relief for extra comfort. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but far from great
I've owned my 18x50 binocs for two years now, and have used them mainly for astronomy. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but...

    (1) I found the image to be less stable than expected. It's certainly better than with no IS system at all, but not as solid as you'd get from using a good tripod. Of course, using a tripod near the zenith is a problem, but there are solutions for that, such as the Sky Window system (the binocs look downward, at a mirror). After an hour's observing, you'll definitely notice how heavy these binocs are.

    (2) I found a large amount of residual color on bright objects...red on one side, blue on the other. I attribute this to the prisms used in the IS system.

    (3) The maximum interocular distance is just barely wide enough for my eyes. The diopter adjustment has considerable stick and slip. I'd rather wear my glasses than mess with the diopter, but the eye relief isn't sufficient.

    (4) The binocs come without lens OG lens caps, which is strange, considering how expensive they are.

I suggest you NOT buy this binocs online. Go to a store that will let you take them outside. Examine a star-like object, such as sun glint off a power line insulator. Check out the IS, the residual color, and the weight. See if the store will let you have them "on approval," and try them out at night.

And don't forget, you can buy a pretty good apochromatic telescope for $2000.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best binoculars I've used
The problem with high power binoculars is that humans can't hold them steady, and that jitter makes it impossible to really look at something without a tripod. The image stabilization in this pair solves that problem and holds things rock steady. This is an expensive product that clearly distingues itself, and one of those products that technology makes seem a little magic.

I have only two small complaints: First, for a product this expensive they should pre-install the neck strap for you -- not a big deal, but it would be nice for the customer. Second, I wish the lens cap covers were higher quality and attachable to the unit so they wouldn't get lost. Again, not a big deal.

These are without a doubt the best binoculars I've ever used.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great except for rubber eye cups!
I love these binoculars -- they do everything they promise
and the performance is spectacular. My only complaint is
that the rubber eyecups are furiously uncomfortable. I
guess I have deep eye-sockets.The eye-relief is much too
much which greatly reduces my field of view and I find
myself smashing my eyes against the cups. The cups are too
large in diamater to fit comfortably against my eyes. If I
roll the cups down, the rolled down portion of the cups is
very thick and I can't get my nose between the eyepieces...
Haven't found any sort of replacement -- may start hacking with
    scissors soon! ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Ironclad has given hands a new lease with their high-tech approach to glove design. Ironclad gloves are made to protect workers' hands better than other work gloves, without feeling clumsy the way so many work gloves can. The first thing we noticed about these gloves is that they're tailored to fit the natural curve hands have in a resting position, rather than being cut straight, so when the hand isn't working, it can actually relax without the glove pulling the fingers in an uncomfortable direction. The palm of this general-utility glove is made of Amara, a synthetic material that mimics the resilience, grip, and comfort of suede while remaining machine-washable and resistant to water damage. High-wear areas are reinforced with tough DuraClad fabric, making these the toughest-grip gloves we've ever worn. The fingertips are also reinforced, yet we had no problem with dexterous tasks like picking up coins. We also like the cut of the cuff on these gloves. It comes in tight to the wrist to prevent dirt or other materials from pouring in. Why so many other gloves have gaping cuff designs is a mystery. While the gloves themselves won't be damaged by water, they won't keep your hands dry for long if you're working in really wet conditions. But that can be said of most work gloves, and everything considered, Ironclad gloves are some of the toughest, most comfortable, and easiest-to-work-in gloves we've tried. --Brian Trinen ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Heavy duty Ironclad gloves
As a landscape contractor, my gloves are an essential tool. I generally go through about a dozen pairs of leather driver type a year. I'm extremely hard on the forefinger and palm. I tried an Ironclad 'heavy duty' pair and they lasted about a year of heavy use. I still wore out the forefinger (tip and about 3 holes down the finger) but overall the glove was very good. It was comfortable and protected my hands well. The re-enforsed fingertips are good for using my hands in the soil. The velcro wristband held it on securely and the added protection sewn in seems to be in the right places. The only drawback is, these gloves offer no protection from the cold at all, but for a heavy work situation, I reccommmend this product highly. I intend to buy another couple of pairs and perhaps the cold weather version as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars dont let the weekend warior decive you
I bought these gloves a week or two ago and have worn them 6 days a week, for roughly 4 to 9 hours a day and I have not had a singe problem with them yet (except for my friends stealing them from me because they haven't had the chance to go and get their own pair yet). It seems to me after reading several other reviews that the people who complain about these gloves are not using them for their recommended purpose. Ironclad's design philosophy is to make highly task specific gloves (to get more information on what task these and other Ironclad gloves are specified for go to the iron clad website, iclad.com) These Gloves are not for gardening, the company says so, so why buy them for that? of course they will not work as well.
A friend of mine bought a pair of ironclad gloves and used them for 5 years without any problems, and then bought himself another pair recently.
It seems to me, that these gloves are aware of their owners intended usage, and self destruct if it is something lighter duty then they are designed for (i.e. landscaping or the weekend warrior) these gloves are not for the weekend warrior, they are for anything from rigging to carpentry to light demolition to law enforcement and everything in between (and gardening is not included in that spectrum)

1-0 out of 5 stars VERY DISAPPOINTED
These gloves are comfortable to wear, however
the leather separated and disintegrated on the middle
fingers on the SECOND USE. These are NOT heavy duty gloves
as advertised. Not even light duty gloves. Very disappointed. ... Read more
