5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Product
Adding a zero cleareance substantially increased the quality of my cuts. I was cross-cutting plywood with my old Delta blade. The tear-out was surprisingly bad considering that the blade was sharpened recently. I dropped this insert in place and the tear-out was nearly gone. In other words, this thing really works.

I love tools that work. Couple of other notes:The set screws work really well but they are really tight. I had to use my cordless drill to adjust them. Second, the bright yellow color is nice because it is a stark reminder of the danger zone.

By the way, if you experience a lot of noise, the directions state that it is probably the blade rubbing on the insert. The solution is to widen the kerf slighty with a bit of sandpaper. I haven't experienced any noise.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to configure and works with dado blades, too
A lot of experienced woodworkers make their own zero clearance inserts.I can't be bothered.I don't do this for a living, so for the hobbyist, this is the way to go.If you make your own, you need to drill leveling screws, use a bandsaw and a router, and if you rely on wood, you run the risk of it warping. This one was dead on and was configured in my saw in no time at all.Totally flat and a great product.

    3-0 out of 5 stars It's OK. . .
I've never bought a zero-clearance insert before. . .I've always made them myself.Since I just got a new saw, I thought I'd go all the way and get a commercial insert. There's actually a lot of play (compared to the standard insert that came with the saw) that must be corrected with the set screws. It's fine, but not exactly as precise as I expected. But, it works just fine.In the future I will continue making my own.Use the original insert from the saw as a template, rough cut the plywood or hardwood on the band saw, use double-stick tape to stick the original and the wood insert together, and use a flush trim bit on the router to finish it off. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Your Own Shredder!
Very sharp and long living blade!
    Cut woods, trees and heads(animals)!

5-0 out of 5 stars There's a reason that this blade averages 5 stars
There's nothing out there like this blade.Don't get me wrong, Freud, Old Ham, etc., make good blades, it's just that this one is exceptional.I've also bought their chopsaw blade and just like the WoodWorker II, it's fantastic!Worth every penny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Forrest saw blades
I have several Forrest blade products, including the Woodworker I and II, (10 inch) and the 12" chopmaster, along with their Dado set (8 inch), and their blade dampener. The blades ALL are the best I have ever owned, and have replaced such blades as the Freud 40 tooth combination and Freud 80 tooth Teflon coated blade I used to use for super smooth cuts. The Woodworker blades in the table saw and the radial arm saw both give cuts as good as the best Freud blades while being easier to use. The table saw blade allows for a faster feed rate with less burning, and the Radial arm saw blade is safer to use because it does not try to grab and walk through the wood. The 12 inch blade on my Dewalt sliding compound miter saw is a dream. I can cut slivers off of oak that you can almost read through and are glass smooth, and the saw is completely controllable. The quality of cut, longevity of the cutting edge (haven't sharpened any of the blades in 15 years of light to moderate use) and ease of machining make these blades well worth much more than they cost. The Dado head, while expensive, is unequalled for cutting absolutely smooth flat-bottomed dadoes and rabbets (adjustable wobble dados are quick and cheap, but the results are not nearly good enough for fine furniture work.) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Forrest 8" Dado Set vs Freud 8" Super Dado Set
Forrest makes a clean sweep in the awards ceremonies. Their Woodworker II took top honors in Fine Woodworking Magazines run off of blades. Close behind was the Freud at a quarter of the cost. Excellent for both blades on smoothness of cut, but the Forrest earned an excellent on tearout, whereas the Freud earned a very good. Well I bought both, and found the Freud to cut a surface so smooth that it was glass like. If I was going to put a finish on it, I would rough it up with 200 grit to improve the adhesion, it was that smooth. Also the Freud had absolutely no tear out, not even a little bit. Perfect is the word here. So why did I buy the Forrest Woodworker II also? Because everybody was raving about it. Forrest makes great products.
On the Dado set, I noticed the reviewers stating that their was a tiny ridge at the bottom of the dado cut, created with the Forrest. The Freud has similar results. Oddly enough the Freud creates a perfect edge when making finger joints and the like, even though when you look down into the pocket, their are miniscule ridges in the cut. Comments that the end result on the Forrest have me concerned, stating that the edge is not perfect. Is this an example of more expensive must be better syndrome?
I bought the Freud Super Dado set based on my earlier experience with their standard saw blade vs the Forrest. I'm glad I did. No matter what you buy, a good old fashioned sacrificial piece of scrap sandwiched to your work piece is your best guarantee against tear out when working with expensive woods.
If you look at the Amazon sales rank, the Freud outsells the Forrest 4 to 1. Of course anything that is less money, sells more quantity, but I just can't get beyond the "perfect" performance of the Freud. How do you improve on that?
This is not a dig on Forrest. They make first class products. Just something to consider. I hope this was helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best dado blade I've ever used
The only thing to say is that it does everything that Forrest said it will do.It cuts your dado with absolutely no splintering. You can't go wrong with this item.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's supposed to be that way...
The review below notes that the bottoms of the dado are 'not flat'.Even though he still gave it four stars, I think it's important to note that this is normal for the Forrestt and was not a defective blade. The ouside blades have a scoring profile on alernate teeth that does give tiny 'batman ears' at the each corner, when the dado is viewed on end. This is why the set cuts so well in lamanated materials. But it's true that when making box joints and the like, where the profile of the dado is exposed, they will be visible. ... Reviews (16)

5-0 out of 5 stars Incra 2000/27 Miter Gauge
Any Incra jig is a winner. The 2000 is no exception. For a few dollars more than the Incra 1000 you get positive stops every one (1) degree, rather than every 5 degrees as on the 1000.Additionally there is another indexed stop which then makes all the positive stops on the 1/2 degree.Marvelous instrument, especially when compared to the miter gauge that came with my Sears table saw 22 years ago.

Update 31 Mar 05: Now that I've been using the Incra 2000 for a few months, I find zero defects, zero detractors for this miter gauge. In fact, I finally can make 45 deg angles that are more accurate than the wood movement that occurs in any project. You cannot get any better than that!

4-0 out of 5 stars Poor set-up, good operation
The short version: set-up took about 3 hrs due to poor directions, sloppy detailing and bad drawings.Operation met expectations.

If you buy, prepare as follows:

    1. Get about 10 machinist shims in increments of .001 or .002.These will be needed to adjust to square with your table. This beats measuring slips of paper with a micrometer and figuring out how many to slide into place.Mine took .005 to square.Their "Tip" between steps 1 and 2.

    2. Do calibration step 1before step 2 in assembly to avoid double handling.Remove the allen screws and rub with some wax or dry lubricant. The screw heads build-up so much friction against the plastic expansion washers that you can almost break your 7/64 allen wrench.

    3. When setting up for the right side --IGNORE their drawing and instructions. They show a through slot connecting the fence to the mounting bracket. It is not slotted which means that when you remove the fence; you can't get in back in with loose washers supplied.I ended up making a ball of wax paper to put behind their slotted washer to be able to reinstall the cap screws -- this will make sense when you see the unit.

Remember that you will have to do the same table squaring step for the right side as you did on the left.

It's incredible that they supply a part that's completely different than their drawing.

    4. The Shop Stop is generally well designed part, but the manual provided is useless for initial set-up.The rack system is very accurate and the positioning works well after you set the rule to your machine.

In operation, the unit is excellent.Changing from 90 to 45 takes 5 seconds and is totally accurate.

Too bad they don't have someone in engineering actually assemble the unit from their drawings and instructions before sending out to customers.

2-0 out of 5 stars There are better miter gauges
The INCRA 2000 has two faults.
    1) The Angle bracket that holds the fence is just a bent piece of steel. Mine was far from square and had a slight twist. Tired of the recommended shimming to correct, I made my own from angled stock.
    2) The handle easily comes loose in use, allowing the fence to move on the base plate during a cut. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Tight mortise-and-tenon joinery is an irreplaceable ingredient of many woodworking projects, but cutting tenons accurately can be next to impossible without the aid of a good jig, like this one from Delta. This jig is made with the same quality of castings and precision machining found on Delta's top-of-the-line table saws, giving it the stability and accuracy we desire. We also appreciate its versatility and wide range of adjustment. While the jig is a perfect match for Delta's benchtop and contractor saws, the miter-slot bar can adjust to fit a number of other manufacturers' table saws as well. It can be used with both right- and left-tilt saws, although switching between the two setups does take some time and attention to detail. The jig can be adjusted from 90 to 45 degrees and has adjustable positive stops; of course, we recommend checking your adjustments with a good square and bevel gauge to make sure the stops are set correctly.

Getting your tenoning jig set up just right can require some patience, but once done, you'll get a big payoff in accurate tenons, and your projects will have the tightest possible joints. In our experience, few shop accessories will prove as invaluable to your woodworking as this solid tenoning jig from Delta. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent tool, worth every penny
after buying the delta mortiser i needed something that would help make identical tenons and be as reliable as the mortiser is. The Delta tenon jig was it. This is a great tool that makes tennoning a breeze. Yeah it may come covered in oil, but so does any other large steel tool you buy. I would rather have it come covered in oil than covered in rust.

The only problem i had with this tool was that it would not fit in the craftsman table saw that i had. It would be nice if they shipped a smaller bar to help accomidate for this problem. the solution for me was to go out to sears and buy a new mighter gauge ($35) and used the bar from that on the delta tenon jig. after that it was ready to go.

overall: Excellent tool that makes tennoning simple

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent vlaue and quality
After reading some of the reviews here I was a little apprehensive about ordering this jig but did so anyway, and I am glad that I did! THis is an excellent quality tool, well designed, stable, and safe, my only issue is that delta went a little overboard with the protective coating of grease, anyway that took about five minutes to clean after I disassembled the jig to move the miter slot rail for my left tilt saw.

Those who complain about the setup either can't read directions or didn't read them before starting. This thing is not rocket science and if you are able to accuratly produce the mortises that will fit the tenons you make with this jig you should be able to set this up after a quick review of the detailed diagrams and instuctions.

3-0 out of 5 stars So, So tennoning jig
The Jig came with a ton of grease that had to be cleaned off.But to do this, I had to take the whole thing apart which was a hassle. Also had to file down to the sharp edges and sand the bottom of the jig as it would scratch my table saw surface. The stock support fence was bent and had to be hammered back into flat. After all that the jig is working fine. ... Editorial Review

When it's time to step up to a bigger router, Porter-Cable's 7518 should be on your list of contenders. It has as powerful a motor as you can find on a router and a reputation for accuracy and dependability. It's designed to work with bits as large as 4 inches in diameter and has electronic soft start and five speeds, to ensure that you'll be able to use those giant panel cutters safely and smoothly. The large bit capacity also makes it a great poor man's shaper when mounted on a good router table. Like most of Porter-Cable's routers, this model features their autorelease collet system, which does a good job of eliminating the problem of frozen bits and the need for rapping on the collet to remove them. Of all the routers we've tried, Porter-Cable's are among those with the lowest vibration and cleanest cuts. One thing we wish Porter-Cable would improve on is the lack of a spindle lock, which means that two wrenches--and potential knuckle wracking--are involved in bit changes. But given that a router's real value is measured by the results it produces, we'd still recommend the 7518 as one of the best routers available and a great choice for any shop. --Brian Trinen ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great for table AND handheld routing
Don't be afraid to take this thing out of the table and use it in your bare hands!

This things works fabulously, both in the table and in my hands. For the table, it's a no brainer... this thing rocks and, being Porter-cable, you will NEVER have a hard time finding accessories. It is the standard.

About the hand-held use though:It's big, but the handles are great, makes getting a good grip on it super-easy.In fact, it's the most comfy fit to my hands that I've found (though I have not tried the Milwaukee 3.25hp router). Also, the weight, solidity, and power of the thing makes it such that it doesn't jump around and jerk like my lighter 1 3/4 HP Dewalt.Between its weight and power, it's actually a fantastic hand router, and cuts any wood (as a previous poster stated) "like butter".

I've used it for fairly delicate, precision work in tight areas as well and the really big stuff.Heck, The only time I've even made a bit chirp was when I was using a 2" long, 1/2" flush trim bit on the full thickness of solid 1.75" alder, and I was "trimming" just about the full diameter of the bit... that was just plain stupid of me.The router barely seemed to notice... the bit, however... well, it's resting in "piece(s)".

I would not necessarily want it as my only router in the shop.If it were my only one, I'd go with a 2 1/4 hybrid, because there are definitely times you do need something more manuverable for light trim work. But, if you have the option to buy two (or already have one) having a small packaged 1 3/4hp (or even PC's little 7/8"hp deal) partnered with this one, then you have a near unbeatable routing setup.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for handheld work too
A lot of people have reviewed this router so I'll just add something new that I didn't see in other reviews. Many people are using this router primarily for router table work.I use it for handheld work too and find its considerable weight to be advantageous there, because it helps keep the router on top of the work. And it cuts like butter. Also the router's power seems to prevent the kind of sudden jumps that smaller motor routers are prone to.

5-0 out of 5 stars The industry standard
If you don't like horsepower and beefiness, than you may want to buy something else.On the other hand, if you want the toughest, most powerful router you can get, than this ones for you. This router was designed to be used in a router table with big bits. I have owned this router for 9 years. I make raised panel doors for a living. This tool has never failed me.I've been through three router tables, but only one router.Porter Cable could easily jack the price up on this router and it would have no problem selling. I own 7 routers. If I could only have one, it would be this one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product, responsive customer service
I have been facinated by the Incra Jig demos at woodworking shows for years.I was lucky enough to recieve a 24" ultra, the master template library, and the three videos as a birthday present.
The set-up was fairly simple if you take your time. I had one snag during set-up, I was missing one small bolt, I scrounged around and found the correct size at a local hardware store.I was up and running, cutting near perfect box joints and dovetails in just a few hours.I also was missing a template that was refered to in one of the videos.A quick e-mail to the incra (taylor design) customer support department had both the bolt and the template in the mail and delivered within a week, no questions asked.
Overall, this is an excellent product that does everything it promises, as long as you follow the instructions. The company was very responsve to correcting their errors and will get my business again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Tool with Bad Manuals
First of all this as an exceptional tool.I am a joinery novice but am now creating professional dovetail joints without problems.I have two comments that I think would be important to new users.

1.The setup directions are very confusing.Incra includes directions for every jig variation and accessory variation all within the product manual.I actually had 4 (yes four!) different documents that I was being refered between and still couldn't find the exact document for my fence - until a change page fell out of one of the docs.I think that officially makes 5 separate docs.I guess Incra changes their products often and doesn't recreate assembly manuals.

    2. Setup is everything. If you get the router bit depth and find the board center accurately, you're home free. I've started using a dial indicator and caliper. It may seem like an overkill but the extra time upfront allows me to create near perfect joints all day long.

4-0 out of 5 stars A nice dovetail jig for small projects.
Without going over all of the other comments I would have to say this this is a nice tool.It does what it says it will. You can put together very nice looking basic dovetails as well as doing some fancy ones. The problem with this thing is that it gets mind numbing messing with that micrometer everytime you move the jig to make a cut.If you do not do it right each time error will start to show in your joints. That said, for a small box with only a few dovetail joints it is not a big deal, but if you are going to do LOTS of big things with many dovetail cuts you might find this gets old very quick. The big plus of this jig is its versatility. It comes with many sizes and patterns of dovetails that you can do in short order. Others have made note of the sharp edges on this jig and I would have to go along with them.It is not a big deal, but a point well taken and something that the Incra people should have taken care of.For the most part I think this is a very nice jig for the person that does small projects in small numbers. If you are going to make large number of big items I would go for the Leigh jig for not too much more money. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Dust Collector Review
Overpriced in light of what you get (or don't get). They need to include the 5" to 4" adaptor (to get it down to the size most people use) and the correct screws to atach it. Otherwise it works fine. It keeps the dust to a minimum. I purchased a standard 5" to 4" heating vent adaptor at Home Depot and pop riveted it on so it would stay put. Extra cost and work that should not have happened if Delta had designed it correctly in the first place.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the right one to get for most users
Unless you have industrial-type 5" dust collector lines, get the Model 50-355, also sold here, instead. In spite of what it says on the 50-355 page, it works fine for both left-tilt and right-tilt Unisaws. The 4" port on the 50-355 is also the standard size for home shop dust collection systems.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works great
I don't agree with the other person who rated it poor.Although it is very expensive for this little piece of sheet metal, prices are similar for air ducts you buy at the hardware store. The other person that rated it was right about not including the bolts that are needed though, which is poor on Delta's part.Otherwise it would have gotten 5 stars.I don't have any gaps with it on my Platinum Edition Unisaw, and it does a great job at getting rid of the dust on the ramp.I check every once in a while, and only get a little bit of piling up in the lower corners, next to the hole. This is far better than my old way of jamming the dust collector hose into the opening and just getting some of the dust, plus this connector gives the DC better suction.Since there is nothing else that fits the opening to this saw besides a cheap plastic option that works very poorly, this is your best bet to properly remove dust.I would recommend it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product to go with my Unisaw
I don't normally write these but since I've heard problems in the past about this product, I figured I would.I have purchased from Amazon the following items. My 3HP unisaw with Biesemeyer fence. The saw's a heavy one.My workshop is on the second floor of my carriage house so we had to take it up the stairs.Clearance of the stairs are 27 3/4".You can take the cast iron top off and reduce the weight by 95#'s.Putting it on and lining it up are easy. It's a great saw.I've purchased a lot of Delta equipment and if you have a problem, they are right there to solve it. The Biesemeyer fence is shipped in two separate boxes.Super boxes and inserts to ship this.No problems with shipping at all.I thought I might have a crack in the plastic cursor that lines up the scale so I called Biesemeyer. They just sent a new one right away.I also purchased the Biesemeyer overhead blade guard. It comes with it's own splitter. Both are great.Don't buy the dust hose unless you hook it up to a shop vac.Doesn't work with a central dust collection system (per conversation with customer service at Biesemeyer). Now to the outfeed table.I heard a lot of comments that this was damaged in shipment.Well the "new" Delta boxes are fine.Nothing was damaged in shipping.Went together well.If you have a newer Unisaw, all the holes are there for mounting so there is no drilling. It makes it really easy.
Hope this helps in your search for good wood working tools. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars You need this for your Unisaw.
If you own a Unisaw in a small shop, you need this mobile base. Very easy to assemble, seems very sturdy. Nice finish-seems to be powder coated. I modified mine to fit a shorter than normal right side extension table, since I fitted the saw with a Biesemeier Homeshop fence and leg set(which I got at a good price from a local supplier). It makes moving this machine easy, although somewhat awkward, until you get used to "driving" it. I will be buying a similar base for my Delta 14" bandsaw also.

5-0 out of 5 stars SPACE SAVER
MY 36-844 FITS LIKE A GLOVE TOOK LESS THAN 15 MINS. TO PUT TOGETHER. CALL A FRIEND YOU STILL HAVE TO LIFT YOUR SAW ON IT. YOU WONT REGRET THIS PURCHASE. USE SOME CAUTION WHEN LOWERING,500LBS.OR MORE IS STILL HEAVY.

4-0 out of 5 stars Would only make one change
This base took about 20 minutes to put together. And that includes five minutes for bandaging my finger after cutting it on one of the staples from the box.The saw fits perfectly, of course. It did require me to reposition the legs for the side extension, as the base was narrower then I originally had the legs.

One item that I like about the HTC base that this doesn't have is the ability to change the position(s) of the fixed wheels.I have a tight spot between my bench and the garage wall that I'm sliding this saw into and the positioning of the fixed wheels requires me to come in at an awkward angle and move three other tools to have enough room to swing the table around. That's why I only give it four stars.Otherwise, a top notch accessory. ...
