Disappointment out of the box
I couldn't wait to give this generator a run. I received it from UPS and followed the instructions to a "T". I added the oil to the manufacture's specification and ran it for about 5 minutes. The oil light fluttered and the unit shut down. (as it is suppose to in a low oil condition). I picked the unit up to see if there was something obvious and there was engine oil all over my driveway.

I called the company I ordered it from and they said the only thing it could be was the oil sensor was possibly loose from the factory. I took the unit apart and the sensor was fine. I went ahead and changed the O ring anyway and ran it again... same problem.

I completely removed the generator and engine from the housing (a job in itself) I added more oil and started the engine to see if I could tell were the oil was comming from.

There are 7 bolts that hold the crank case together and 4 of them were not installed.

Quality control must have had the day off when this unit went through the assembly line.

I took it to the nearest Yamaha dealer for repairs (warranty) however it will be in the shop for 2 weeks to install 4 bolts.

Maybe I will change the rating on this item... If I ever get the chance to use it. For now I'm very disappointed.

Great Product
A smooth running, quiet and efficient little gem, perfect for dry camping in our Vintage Airstream trailer. I highly recommend it, as well as Amazon being the place to buy it.

Rolling black-outs... who cares!
Purrs like a kitten. Anyone looking for an emergency generator that won't drive your neighbors nuts, can't go wrong with Yamaha's EF1000. This generator is so easy to start that even my daughter who weighs in at 95lbs has no trouble firing it up.

It's designed to run appliances like TV's, lights etc., so don't expect it to run your microwave (small microwave is O.K.) or washing machine.

For manual-transfer home backup power, it stands alone
Up here in the Cupertino mountains, this generator is the most popular solution for backup home power. You really don't have any other choice in this category - 9KW, propane compatible, and under $2K. Winco's canvas cover, auto-solenoid gas shutoff & line voltage monitor are all worthwhile accessories. Noise is good for a standalone generator, but quiet it's not. Outstanding Generator (update)
During the hurricane Charley power outage my neighbor was kind enough to run an extension cord from his generator over to my house and saved all my food.The day we got power back I ordered the 9777 from Amazon with super saver shipping and $25 off promotion.Four days after I received it Hurricane Frances slammed the Florida East coast HARD.This little generator saved our bacon for three days while we were without power.The best thing I can say about it, and the reason I bought this item, is the fantastic fuel economy.I was getting between 3 and 5 hours per gallon while powering a freezer, refrigerator, fans, lights, television, coffee pot and using the built in 12 volt charging function.This compares to my neighbor with his gallon per hour usage.It started up every time with one or two pulls, has pressurized lubrication, an idle function switch and a built in 12 volt charger.I do agree with others that the little foot on the front of the unit could be beefier but still give it 5 stars because of the miserly fuel consumption.Do not underestimate this fact when looking for generators since gas was not available down here in Florida for several days after the hurricane passed.

After this was written Hurricane Jeanne hit us several weeks later.Again, this little generator ran flawlessly for several days powering all of the above plus the window air conditioner (Panasonic, see separate review) that I had purchased for just such an occasion.Fuel consumption was the same and all my neighbors with thier 5500 Watt overkill units were sure jealous of that.I still heartily recommend this generator.

faulty oil pressure switch
WE bought this generator as a emergency power unit about 3 yrs ago.we have run it for a total of maybe 40 hours.the last time we used it,itran for 1hr. then shut down. would start right back then do it again. unit is full of oil.unpluged oil pressure switch now it will run. this unit is not very quiet but still quieter than some coleman generators.factory should include extra switch and symptoms of this problem in manual.

Commercial Grade
I recently purchased my Generac 4000 EXL for my RV. ( Also for my home, in the event of rolling power black-outs.The product is very sound in design with big generator features at a economical price.I especially like the pressurized oil system for the engine as it will extend the life of the engine. The electric start is a "must have" for a portable generator. (even more so for a RV)The automatic idle control is great and helps with noise control. (The unit tends to be a little noisy when under a heavy load.) The generator is compact and can easily be stored in the RV.
I have found the generator to be able to handle all my power needs. Even when the AC unit is turned on the Generac 4000 handles the power needs without problems.
One note:
I did purshase a three year service contract on the unit just to take care of any problems.So far I have had no problems with the unit.

The Best Generator I have ever used.
Hey do you think the last guy reviewing this generator works for Honda?I find his story hard to believe.I have run Honda's, Generac's and Makita's and none of them even come close to this Yamaha. This Yamaha generator is an animal! By the way, I am NOT an employee of Yamaha.

This is the tool that started the Leatherman revolution. Despite the introduction of new and more elaborate models from Leatherman, the Original remains a popular tool. We like the tough, compact design of the Original, as well as the high quality of the blades and tools. The jaws of the pliers are extremely tough. The Original packs a pretty impressive assortment of tools, including wire cutters, a knife, a metal/wood file, a can/bottle opener, an awl/punch, a nice assortment of Phillips screwdrivers, and more--all perfect for quick, on-the-spot jobs. It's true that the big knife blade would be more effective if it faced the other way, and that having to open the whole thing to get at any of the tools is less than ideal (both issues have been addressed in Leatherman's Wave). The Micra is a tough little addition to the Leatherman line of multitools. It's impressive that such a compact design packs in 10 tools and weighs only 1-3/4 ounces. Unlike some of its larger, more expensive competitors, the Micra truly is a pocket tool, in the sense that it's small and light enough to be carried comfortably in your pocket. The scissors on the Micra are among the most effective we've seen on a pocket tool, and the tweezers don't detach (and get lost) as do those of some other brands. Compact and very cool
The Leatherman Micra is a very nice little tool. It has an ingenious compact design that holds a lot of tools inside. The main tool you see after opening it up is the scissors, which are very strong. You can cut staples and cardboard with these scissors, along with the other stuff you cut with scissors (papers, string, etc.). There are 3 types of screw drivers which you can use for a variety of screws, ranging from small to regular sized. There's the tweezers, which are better than the ones in the Swiss Army Knives and are attached to the tool so you can't lose them. There is a knife which is pretty sharp. There's a can opener, which you might not use much here but when you go to various countries outside the U.S. they have more bottled soft drinks so you can try them out. There's also a nail file (comes with a cleaner) and a ruler.

The whole knife closes nicely, and it's all stainless steel. Overall, this knife would make a great addition to your keychain so that you can have it with you at all times, and you'll be happy you brought it when it comes in handy.

Great Product
I was given this product used as a gift by a customer at a store.My initial response was that it would be useless, but I now carry it in my pocket quite frequently.A scissors is one of the most useful portable tools to have.Unlike other pocket knifes (e.g. swiss), the scissors on the Leatherman Micra is useable, even for cutting annoying plastic packaging on electronics.I will note that the tweezer side sometimes allows pocket lint onto some of the tools.

I love this thing!
Like most people, I think I have great need for a leatherman/swiss army knife type contraption but in reality have very little use for them.However, this one is great.The "picnic" uses make it better for me:cork screww, cheese knife, cutting knife.I've used it often on simple urban picnics. I've also taken it camping and it fit every need in my week in the woods.

Swiss Army Knife with Balls
This thing is absolutely great. It has all the most commonly used appliances as well as a can and bottle opener and even a cork screw... Work hard, Play hard...this is the one. Its also built with typical Leatherman quality which has always been exceptional. I install Satellite TV for a living and I honestly pulled this thing out a dozen times the very first day I had it. I swear by it...P.S. I bought it at the largest knife shop in the world and its still about 20% cheaper on Amazon...My mistake.

Need some improvements
I am new owner of this tool and I admit the idea is brilliant compare to GERBER's for compactness, but the linkage mechanism should be RIVETING not BOLTING. I feel so uneasy whenever I use it since the bolts are easily untied and gone away.
If I tie up the bolt, the returning procedure of each tool is very stiff which is very dangerous especially for using knife.
All I found it useful is bottle/can opener because of it.
