5-0 out of 5 stars It Continues to Do the Job
I have used one of these since Jr. High shop class 30 years ago.It is a great tool to use for setting the center of a drill or screw hole on wood.Just place the point on your mark and whack it with the heel of your hand. That little dimple will keep your drill on mark or break enough fiber togive your screw a grip.It is a basic hand tool that should be in everywoodworkers war chest. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Fiskars's remarkably light, handy power ax splits large and thick blocks of wood with ease. The high-quality carbon steel blade has a PTFE coating, which reduces friction and helps facilitate the removal of the blade from wood. We found it to be smartly designed and easy to attach. The handle consists of a sturdy glass fiber-reinforced polyamide. This ax is much lighter than ones with wooden handles and less likely to break at the neck. Use the face of the ax as a sledge with Fiskars's splitting wedge for large blocks of wood. The ax comes complete with a plastic sheath for carrying and safe storage. ... Read more

    3-0 out of 5 stars It's ok.
Purchased this axe after reading the reviews.A 'magic bullet' it's not.Compared to my old traditional maul, it performed a bit better. It does have a very sharp edge. Now, I have used the axe only to split wood (oak) and not to cut down anything. So, it might be fine for that purpose (I prefer a chain saw, myself).Sorry, I must break the trend and give this an average score.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Axe
I'm not an axe guru by any means, but I needed to chop down some trees, and saw this axe and it's great reviews when it was on sale.I bought it, and it is simply amazing. It takes down branches, stomps so easily. My friend loved it too.We got a kick out of using it and chopped down the ugly trees in my front yard.A great tool for the gardener/firewood splitter.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great axes, but there's a better one
Fiskars makes incredibly good axes. The problem with this model is that the head is heavier (4 1/4 lb) than necessary for this type of axe. The similar 7859 model has a 2 1/4 lb head. I find this splits big wood as well as my old 6 lb maul. My wife loves the light weight. I'd give the 7859 five stars, and hope that Amazon starts carrying it soon. ... Read more
