DEWALT DW744S 10" Portable Table Saw Average Customer Review: Tools & Hardware list price: $918.00 -- our price: $499.00 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The first thing we look for in a table saw--portable or otherwise--is an accurate, smooth-working fence, and the telescoping fence on DeWalt's 10-inch portable table saw impressed us immediately. Fully extended, the fence delivers a 24-1/2-inch rip capacity, letting you cut to the center of a 4-by-8-foot sheet, while the rack-and-pinion design lets you make microadjustments fast and accurately. We also liked how the fence rides on both the front and back rails so that it's parallel to the blade at all times. The telescoping rails retract, too--when the job's done, the saw is easy and safe to transport. Like most 10-inch portable saws, DeWalt's has a 3-1/8-inch depth capacity at 90 degrees and a 2-1/4-inch capacity at 45. The 15 amp motor cranks plenty of torque and doesn't lag when cutting hardwood or pressure-treated stock. Performance aside, DeWalt clearly also kept safety in mind when designing this saw. Its oversize on/off switch is positioned so you can easily bump it off with your knee if you get into trouble making a cut. The arbor on Dewalt's saw also has the capacity for a full dado stack. Add to that the saw's dust-collection hookup and sturdy steel stand, and you've got a portable table saw that can hold its own in the shop. --Jon Groebner ... Read more Features Reviews (61)

Bosch 400010" Worksite Table Saw Average Customer Review: Tools & Hardware US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Bosch's 10-inch Worksite table saw might just be the best of the current bunch. Benchtop table saws--which weigh 60 to 100 pounds and are light enough for one person to carry from the truck to the job site--have increased in popularity in recent years. They set up easily on a workbench or sawhorses and generally feature stable components that make them great for pros and serious hobbyists alike. Although at 60 pounds the Bosch is lighter than any other saw in its class, this saw is no lightweight. It sports a die-cast undercarriage and powerful 4.4-horsepower, 15 amp motor--burly components that make it a serious, albeit slight, contender. Conveniently, the Bosch comes ready to use right out of the box; we were making cuts about 10 minutes after the UPS delivery. Plus, it's the only benchtop table saw with an arbor lock, so mounting the blade is a one-wrench affair (less chance for busted knuckles). The wrench--like all those that come with Bosch tools--is forged, rather than stamped, and so there are no sharp edges that dig into your hand during blade changes. It's a small detail, but one that matters and one that's typical of the attention to detail paid by Bosch engineers. A flip of the paddle-style on/off switch initiates the soft-start electronics, which ramp the blade up to speed quickly without any disturbing jolt. The electronic feedback, popular on many saws today, keeps the blade turning at a constant speed, no matter what the load. The fence is the heart of any table saw and we found Bosch's to be a beauty. It's well machined and locks securely and accurately to the table. The cam-lock handle is padded, seats flush, and feels good to use. Like the comparable DeWalt saw, the Bosch features an extendable fence that makes it easy to rip four-by-eight panel material. It feels solid and slides smoothly, and the scales are easy to read. (There's even a built-in magnifying glass to cut down on the squint factor.) As with all the new Bosch tools, wrenches and removable items store nicely onboard the saw. The fence snaps into a holder on the side of the saw and stays put, and the miter gauge slides into a slot on the front of the tool--yet another small detail that we appreciate. The bottom line? The Bosch is a powerful saw that handles big stock without bogging down. --Mark McDonald ... Read more Features Reviews (17)
One problem I did have was with the washers used to secure the blade on the arbor. The outer washer wouldn't fit in the inner position such that I could use a wide dado configuration. BUT this turned into a positive.I emailed the company and got a quick response and a week later received new washers -- that fixed the problem -- via express mail. good job, bosch.

Makita 2703 10" Table Saw with Carbide Blade Average Customer Review: Tools & Hardware list price: $550.00 -- our price: $299.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review For the price, Makita's 10-inch portable table saw is a solid choice for the job site. The 15 amp motor packs plenty of power, and with a 3-9/16-cut capacity, this saw will rip four-by material on a single pass. This saw also has an electric brake, so adjustments between cuts are both safer and quicker to make. The table's a good size, too: 27 by 22 inches. We also really like the saw's new cam-lock rip fence, which is much easier to adjust than double-locking designs. The bevel adjust has a pretty good rack-and-pinion design (metal, admittedly, would be better). All in all, this saw strikes a nice balance between weight (only 40 pounds) and vibration (minimal). Simply put, the Makita 2703 is a solid saw, better for the job site (quick, powerful, lightweight) than the home shop. For the shop, we'd recommend a saw with a more accurate fence. --Jon Groebner ... Read more Features Reviews (32)

Delta 36-550 Deluxe Table Saw Average Customer Review: Tools & Hardware list price: $225.97 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (6)
Just recently I attempted to use a Molding Blade that was supposed to fit a "Standard" 10" Table Saw. Well I quickly found that the 5/8" Arbor is too short to fit a Molding blade, and will only fit a Dado Blade up to 1/2". I found a way to mount the blade (used a smaller washer instead of the thick spacer)and it had plenty of power to handle the task. Overall this is not a bad saw for around [price]. The fence is quite "rickety" and is not a precision piece of equipment by any means.
Pro: Inexpensive - You can get into woodworking for not much money. This can be a good first saw depending on what you're planning to make.Make small stuff.I built a table for my son.2.5"x2.5" poplar table legs were just beyond the ability of the saw.I was able to make it work though. Alignment was good out of the box. Con: Underpowered motor - For the price, it's fine. But it's easy to bog down.Stick to 3/4" boards or plywood.Anything thicker is too much for the saw. Loud - Wear earplugs. It sounds like 1,000 evicerated cats. It's even louder than my router.Positivly ear-splitting. Sloppy miter gauge - The gauge wiggles in the track. That translates to poor accuracy.Chuck the miter gauge and make a panel cutting jig, use it for everything. Lousy fence - The fence is laughable. You could use it for small stuff, but it may get in the way more often. Small table - The table size will be an issue for making furniture.Should be ok for small stuff. Not so good blade - Measure the blade for runout, it may be unusable. The one that came with my delta contractor's saw had a runout of 1/4"!So I had effectively a wobble-type dado blade that cut 1/4" dados. The one that came with this saw was a little better. Recommendations: Make a panel cutting jig and toss the miter gauge. Integrate the saw into a larger table.Norm (new yankee workshop) has plans for such a thing with an auxiliary fence. Keep the projects small. Replace the blade.Plan on spending $80 and up for a good blade. Save your money and consider getting a less expensive contractor's saw. ... Read more Asin: B00004R9LJ |

Hitachi C10RA2 10" Portable Table Saw with Metal Stand Average Customer Review: Tools & Hardware list price: $654.95 -- our price: $289.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The Hitachi 10-inch table saw is a lightweight portable that packs plenty of power and prices in the midrange of portable table saws. We've come to think of a good-quality rip fence as perhaps the most important feature of any table saw, and the Hitachi has a nicely finished, easily adjusted fence that feels sturdy and well mounted. The cam-lock handle is easy to operate and holds the fence firmly in place. The bevel adjustment is simply designed and operates smoothly. The handle pulls out to disengage and move the blade in large increments, then pushes back in for crank-turn microadjustments. However, we found a flaw with the Hitachi's poorly designed bevel lock. This rather small lever is mounted alongside the crank handle. As the blade tilts, the lever moves with it. The problem comes when the blade is tilted to a full 45-degree angle: in that position, the lever is tucked up close under the table and is very hard to tighten. This drawback probably isn't enough to dissuade true Hitachi loyals, who appreciate the power and durability of the famous Hitachi motor, but an improvement here would make this decent and reliable saw a top contender. The Hitachi doesn't feature the extendable fence for ripping four-by-eight panel material like the Bosch and DeWalt saws, but at $150 less than those tools, it's a solid and affordable performer. --Mark McDonald ... It does have a few good points like a nice cast iron 3 piece table, and aluminum fence, and the body is sheet metal, and is not plastic, and the motor is plenty powerful. Now for the complaints. The stand that comes with the saw looks nice but functions poorly. Sometimes when I saw a large piece of wood the entire thing slides on the floor, sometimes damaging the workpiece. Another problem I have with it is that there is no way to upgrade the size of the table, in fact there is only one upgrade to the entire unit, a dado insert. The miter slot isn't standard, so you can add absolutely no third party accessories that would fit in a standard miter slot. Concerning the 3 piece table, I have noticed that the two side pieces are sometimes nearly a 16th" off from the center piece and I have to unscrew them and realign them flat, I am afraid one day I will wear out the screws and it won't realign correctly. Yet another problem is with the blade guard. Great idea, but it just doesn't work. When I align the fence and run a board through, the board almost always gets stuck on the blade guard and I have to push very hard (not safe at all), then the stand (with no rubber feet) begins to slip and the whole table saw slides, making it extremely dangerous. I have since then installed the saw onto one of the Ridgid mobile utility carts, and turned the Hitachi stand into a chair(I haven't slid out yet, heh heh). I also removed the blade guard completely. Oh yeah, yet another complaint, This thing is EXTREMELY LOUD!!! Wear ear protection especially at the start up. Oh yeah I forgot about yet another problem. When you use the blade tilt mechanism and want to go to 45 degrees, the blade lock gets in the way and you end up busting your knuckles, and having to realign the lock so that you can move the tilt mechanism and lock the blade so it stays at the angle you want. I have owned this saw for 9 months, and made a couple hundred cuts with it, and in conclusion I definitely wish I had bought another saw, probably a Ridgid. It always happens to me when I try to save a few bucks. If you are looking for a saw to do just a few cuts maybe buy a less expensive delta, but if you are looking for a semi-professional saw, you may want to overlook the Hitachi C10RA2. ... JET 708300K / JWTS-10CW2-JF 10" Table Saw with 2 Cast Iron Wings and JETFence Average Customer Review: Tools & Hardware list price: $829.00 -- our price: $749.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The two precision-ground, cast-iron wings set this saw apartfrom average contractor-style saws with steel wings. Heavy-dutycast-iron trunnions support the sealed ball-bearings' blade arborhousing for a smooth performance with minimal vibration. JET also usestotally enclosed fan-cooled motors, preventing overheating and dustinfiltration and resulting in longer motor life and less risk of a firehazard than with open motor housing. The stand for this saw is made ofa tougher-gauge metal and has a 4-inch dust port for easy connection toa dust collector. Another user-friendly feature is the quick-connectelectrical plug right at the saw, meaning you don't have to search outthe wall socket prior to every blade change. JET has also located theon/off switch at the top left for easy access when a quick shutdown isrequired. A change in the hole pattern on the fence rails means leftiescan now shift the set to their preferences. The fit, finish, and use ofa more durable powder coating instead of paint will make a proud ownerof every user--from the beginner who wants to learn with confidence tothe seasoned pro who doesn't have space for a full-size cabinet saw.--Nancy Gleason ... Assembly as all my Jet purchases have been a breeze. Until it's time to align the belt and apply tension to the belt. That is the tricky part with a one-man assembly.

Powermatic 1791227 Model 64 Artisan Left Tilt Table Saw with 30" Accu-Fence System Tools & Hardware list price: $1,100.00 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review A close look reveals the small touches that make this table saw a quality professional machine. It has a precision-ground cast-iron table with a front-edge bevel to eliminate sharp edges that can damage material. The solid cast-iron extensions expand the saw's work surface. And the unique blade, which tilts to the left (away from the fence) prevents binding and reduces the risk of kickback. Powermatic has also developed its Accu-Fence system with an extra-large cam that securely locks the fence in place for greater holding power--and, consequently, more precise cutting. The fence's particleboard side cheeks are easily replaced if cut up during use (unlike metal fences). A dust shroud and a 4-inch hookup allow the saw to be connected to dust collection equipment. We like that the blade guard adjusts independently on each side and has a standard kickback paw on the back end. Just pulling the safety switch off prevents unauthorized use (but keep an eye on it; it's small and could easily be misplaced). Although the saw is unquestionably heavy (and consequently sturdy), it is still portable enough to be loaded in the back of a truck for transport to a job site. With well-thought-out features and rugged construction, this model is a solid choice for those needing an entry-level, contractor-grade saw and a premium choice for the craftsperson or home hobbyist looking for both durability and professional features. --Tim Block ... One area that was lacking (at least for me since this is my first non-portable table saw) was the instructions on assembly of the rails and fence guide. They could have used better diagrams and part descriptions. Overall an excellent saw for the money.I will probably trade out the accessory wood table for a router table.
