    Editorial Review

Dremel came out with the first rotary tool long ago, and this professional model, the latest evolutionary leap in the Dremel line, is a great tool for a huge range of projects, from home improvement tasks to hobbies and crafting. Its new soft-start technology, electronic controls, and ergonomic grip make it easier and more comfortable to use than any other rotary tool we've tried. It has a continuously adjustable speed range from 5,000 to 30,000 rpm, with a precise speed gauge, allowing the user to effectively work with materials as soft as balsa wood and as hard as ceramics. And we really like the innovative electronic feedback control on this model, which takes the jerk and torque out of lower-speed applications. Another great feature of this kit (that Dremel's other MotoTools could benefit from) is the 10-foot long cord, which lets you maneuver without reaching the end of your leash. The kit also comes with a huge assortment of accessories and a handy carrying case. If you're looking for the smoothest and easiest-to-operate rotary tool on the market, look no further. Dremel's professional kit is as good as it gets. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The lastest and the best
I bought my first Dremel (a Model 2) in 1947.It finally gave up in 1993.Since then I have added the single speed and multispeed Multipro models to my tool box.Now the digital model comes along and is the best of the best. Its soft start, dependable speed control, and high power make it equal to any job.It fits all the Dremel attachments making it every bit as adaptable as the others. It handles all the cutting, shaping, finishing, and polishing tasks involved in my construction of miniatures and architectural models.

5-0 out of 5 stars Glad the old one blew!
I had a Dremel Model 280 for many years and it served well. It was a single-speed model, so I had to buy a separate speed control for it. Two years ago, it suddenly blew up in my hand when a commutator section dislodged. Fortunately, the 3981 was on sale in a kit that included the flex shaft and a lot of attachments. As soon as I used it, I was happy the old one blew up! I love the soft-start, integrated speed control that doesn't bog down at low speeds, and it gives you a readout too. The biggest improvement is that it doesn't get too hot to hold after a few minutes of hard use, like the 280 did even when it was new. I used the 3981 with the grout removal attachment to take up some irreplaceable mosaic tile. It burned up a few bits, but not my hands.

The only downside is that I had to purchase all new attachments to fit the nose piece. Dremel even helped out there, by making up a new support arm for my D-Vise base to fit the new tool at a moderate cost. That allows the tool to be stationary while working on small pieces. This is the best rotary tool I've ever used!

5-0 out of 5 stars The all around tool made even better
What seperates this Dremel from the others you ask?Well for starters it allows you to control the RPM's electronically. From 5 to 30k RPM's you can finally gain a sense of complete control over any situation with this tool.Using it primarily to Modify my computer cases and other strange little nuances of mine I can go from plastic to steel in the touch of a button without having to worry about melting plastic or taking forever to cut through metal.

However my dremel has found very other useful activites as well. The grout attachment works wonders in the bathroom and kitchen and I fixed the gate on my wife's horse's stall with it as well as modified my desk with it (I needed a couple extra slots for my computer cables).

I guess the only downside to this Dremel is the flimsy control switch.Well its not really flimsy but it does rattle when you bump up the RPM's.

Overall I am very pleased with the many different uses the Dremel finds itself in while in my hands. The addition of the electronic control switch for manipulating the RPM's is a godsend as it offers so much more flexibility than the older Dremels. This particular case comes with an assorment of goodies (including the universal chuck) so you really shouldn't have to buy any other accessories with the exception of some of the other specialized tool sets or the flex attachment.

Well in conclusion this little tool is BIG enough to handle most any application a hobbiest or tinkerer can put it through. Its uses are infinite and is simple enough to be operated by anyone...with the exception of the little tikes wandering around the place...and is a very useful tool to have around the house or shop. ... I use this drill for jewelry making and am thrilled with it.I don't use the Dremel bits, as they don't suit my needs, but Dremel is an old company and they stand behind their product. Their bits are fine for standarddrilling. Check around for the best price. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Hard To Recommend This
Not bad for the money but the edge guide's working range of 1 1/4" to 4" really limits it's utility. The edge guide was of no use in routing a 1/2" groove into the narrow (1 ½") side of a 2 X 4.This made the router attachment of no use on my project.

Dremel has the "Shaper / Router Table" attachment and a soon-to-be-available Plunge Router attachment you should consider.I believe the Router Table attachment would have worked for my project.Wish I'd bought it instead.I'll be buying it now too.

3-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
I was disappointed with the attachment. It's
made out of plastic, and while reasonably firm,
it does bend a little. Not what you want for
precision work. Make sure you use the collet
and tighten it sufficiently otherwise the bit
will sink into the wood as you work. The depth
measurements are just a bunch of lines, numbers
would be nice. I was unable to rout a straight
line with the edge guide, probably because I
was going right to left instead of left to right.
I'm now in the market for a real router. Hopefully
I'll get what I pay for there...

5-0 out of 5 stars Great attachment!
This is a great little attachment for the Dremel rotary tool. I've used mine on a number of projects from making signs and edging small woodworking projects. I also build specialty birdhouses in my spare time and this tool makes the job easy and professional looking. If you have a Dremel and want a small router, this is the tool for you. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

We started counting all the uses for this little dynamo, but we stopped at 967. We like it for delicate tasks and finer work because it isn’t as powerful as its big brothers, so it’s easier to control. It’s light, extremely maneuverable, the switch is exactly where you want it and heck, it’s just plain fun to use. It’s perfect for jewelry, electronics, tiny woodworking crafts like dollhouse furniture and other intricate hobbies. It uses Dremel’s wide array of bits, so there’s virtually no limit to what you can do with this. Sure, there are store brands on the market for less, but Dremel is king when it comes to rotary tools, and we think they outdid themselves with this one.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Item not as pictured
Careful...I bought this unit as my old one died....but I had two spare square battery packs and a charger that still worked....I bought this based on the picture and number 750D....what I got was the newer version 750-02 and my old square battery packs do not fit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
I recently bought the Minimite and it works great. It has many uses for me and my wife. She likes to use it for sanding her bunions and her heels, she couldn't find anything that works nearly as good. I use it to sharpen the mower blades and all our knives.

5-0 out of 5 stars PERFECT FOR CARVING FOAM PUMPKINS
If you love carving pumpkings (especially foam pumkins) the way I do, then this tool is an absolute necessity.I use it specifically for scraping away the pumpkin husk in areas that are to have medium tones or for those tiny carving areas where its difficult to have control with an exacto knife. However, the battery doesn't last a real long time. For those 1-2 hour carving sessions, a replacement battery is a must, so one can be charging while you are using the other. ...
