    Editorial Review

The sharp, stainless-steel blades of these all-purpose scissors are suitable for cutting paper, flower stems, and taking on many other kitchen chores in between. The scissors' locking mechanism helps ensure safety. The Good Grips line features durable, nonslip flexible handles on every product. Ergonomically designed to fit the palm comfortably and softly, the pressure-absorbing processed rubber handle puts less tension on the hands, while providing an outstanding grip. Made from the same material as dishwasher gaskets are constructed of, the handles are slip-proof, wet or dry, as well asdishwasher-safe. Good Grips products are moderately priced and have won the Tylenol/Arthritis Foundation Design Award. --Laurie Notaro ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Faulty design
After a month of trying to use these for poultry I tossed them. The first time I used them the nut holding the blades together loosened. If you know scissors, once this starts you might as well forget it. After one cut I would have to try to tighten the thing, usually with hands greasy from handling the bird. Oxo grip products are hit and miss. Some I like, but others are just turkeys.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love these scissors!
These have to be the best pair of scissors that I have ever used. They are designed very well and cut easily through everything I have used them for. They are also very comfortable to use for a variety of hand sizes (my boyfriend likes them as much as I do).I don't know what previous reviewers were doing with their scissors, but I have had none of those problems with mine. The little red clip that holds the handles together always stays in place without any modification. Also, they have never come apart.I have had mine for over six months and use them almost everyday all around the house. From cutting paper to plant stems, they have always worked beautifully. They are also very cool to look at.Friends that have seen and/or used them have praised them as well.I do confess that I did not get mine through amazon.com.Perhaps amazon had a bad batch or something, or maybe I got lucky.I only know that my experiences are totally opposite of previous users who gave reviews.

2-0 out of 5 stars poor quality and design
These scissors came as a set with other Oxo items and while the other items (cheese grater, vegetable peeler, ice cream scoop, and jar opener) functioned as they suppose to, the scissors has become a frustrating experience. For example, the red locking clip that keeps the scissors closed (scissor is based on a spring lock system) has not functioned properly and cutting anything has become a vexing challenge. ... Sabatier Precision 7-Piece Stainless-Steel Knife Set with Block
Average Customer Review: 3.0 out of 5 stars
    Kitchen
    list price: $20.00
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

This 7-piece set contains all the basic kitchen knives, and then some, including a 3-1/2-inch paring knife, an 8-inch chef's knife, a 6-inch utility knife, a 6-inch boning knife, and an 8-inch slicer, as well as a sharpening steel and a knife block. The knives are forged from high-carbon stainless steel, which is the industry standard, and have full tangs, meaning that the steel goes all the way through the handle. These knives feel a little lighter than professional quality sets, and won't hold the same razor-sharp edge, but for those looking for a complete starter set these will work just fine. The sharpening steel helps to keep the blade true, and the block keeps tools handy and protected. --Maria Dolan

1-0 out of 5 stars Cheap, cheap, cheap stamped stainless knives. Not a bargain!
We received these as a gift, but were very disappointed with them. Not only did these knives arrived slightly corroded, but they also chipped far too easily. They rusted further upon using them despite careful hand-washing and towel drying. They are most definitely NOT a bargain at any price!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Precision
...They are worth that, but not much more. The knives are not sharp when you get them and it takes lots of work to get them in shape. They are heavy, and that's good. The block is OK at best.I guess for the price they are a good buy, but don't expect to get more than what you pay for...

3-0 out of 5 stars Good knives for inexperience cooks
I did a lot of comparing and researching before I decided to purchase these knives. When I first got it I was pretty satisfied with its performance. It cuts well and works good. But then after couple months I started noticing the "inperfections" of these knives. It rusted when I left it in the sink for a day or two and I had to constantly re-sharpen them. They are good knives for people who do not do a lot of cooking but for me they are simply not good enough.I feel like I have to give them "special attention" to keep them in good cutting shape.Overall my experience with them is satisfactory. ... Krups 404-70 Open Master Can Opener

    Editorial Review

The Krups Open Master can opener answers the prayers of those cooks who are sick of struggling with manual can openers. This can opener has a patented bladeless design that uncrimps can lids, rather than cutting them out, so it doesn't leave sharp edges to cut fingers. Also, because the opener doesn't cut into the lid of the can, the opener's blades won't get gummed up and contaminated with old food that has stuck to the cutting edge. The large handle is easy to grip, and the on-off button has raised bumps so that your thumb won't slip. --Julija Gelazis ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars very good and unique can opener
I've had my Krups Open Master a long time; I think I got it shortly after they started making them.Only recently has the motor been getting balky and the opener less efficient.I guess that's pretty good for many years of constant use.

Only two complaints: this thing works well IF the part that holds on to the can is set at exactly the right angle. This can take a little trial and error. Also, I'm left-handed, but I have to use this opener with my right hand because of its design.

I love the nice, clean edge it leaves on the can. It's impossible to cut yourself, and the cutting blade doesn't get dirty.

    Not perfect, but very good.

2-0 out of 5 stars Blade wears out FAST!
The mechanics of this can opener are terrific EXCEPT for the quality of the opening blade. It wears out in less than a year of moderate use.A replacement blade costs $23 + shipping from Krups so you have no recourse once it quits opening cans except to deposit it in a landfill.

We are on our 4th one and have finally decided to go back to the mechanical type.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great can opener, once you figure it out!
I've had this can opener for about 8 months, and I use it about 3-4 times a week for anything ranging from small cans of tuna to large (bulk) cans of stewed tomatoes. I find it very easy to use one-handed (I'm right handed and I think it was designed for us righties), and since it doesn't actually cut the can, there's no danger that the lid will cut me when I try to remove it. Occasionally, the can is warped or the top edge is bent, and the can opener will sometimes shave a little piece of metal off the can, but this always just drops off onto the counter rather than into the food, as happens with other can openers.

Other reviewers have complained that it is hard to get this can opener to latch onto cans in order to open them. That's true -- if you don't read the manual. After a little trial and error, it's not really that hard to get the machine to latch on. Still, it's not completely intuitive, which is why I gave this product 4 stars.

Overall, I love this unit -- I chose it after much research on Amazon and I haven't been disappointed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars wouldn't garden without it
I love this tool.I use it for pruning, deadheading and cutting flowers and herbs. It is comfortabe to hold, very sharp and cuts up to 1-inch branches, twigs. It is so helpful in the garden that I couldn't do without it!It also makes a teriffic gift for the gardener.I highly reccommend this garden cut shear!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not all that great
Although this product may appear to be very versatile, it can easily be broken if cutting branches or othe harder material. Comfort is something, but not everything/

5-0 out of 5 stars Was skeptical at first.......
My first impression was.....this shear is too long. I had been used to using a six inch floral shear. Little did I know! Much easier getting into those bushy plants. The Roth is soooo comfortable to use in the garden. Andit is ultra sharp and makes super cuts, which are so very important whenharvesting flowers for show. Cuts and does not 'crush' stems. Lookingforward to using it in the crafts shop. This is great value for the price. ... Read more

Black & Decker CST2000 12-Volt Cordless Grass Hog 12" Trimmer/Edger with Auto Feed Spool (AFS)

    Editorial Review

Black & Decker's Grass Hog offers the convenience of cordless power without the mess of fuel. Requiring virtually no tune-ups and no fussing with gasoline and oil mixtures, the Grass Hog gives you quiet, reliable, maintenance-free power at the flip of a switch. True, battery power doesn't measure up to the strength of a gas engine, but maybe you don't need all that power (and pollution) anyway.

This trimmer takes just a few minutes to put together, and its durable construction--backed by Black & Decker's two-year warranty--is immediately obvious. With a 12-inch cutting path--the largest of any battery-powered trimmer--the Grass Hog works quickly. It is limited to light-duty cutting of grass and foliage but can handle most homeowners' needs for weekend weed whacking. The straight-shaft design lets you easily reach under decks and stairs, and the adjustable handles offer a comfortable grip. The auto feed spool releases trimmer line as it's needed, with no tapping of the spool head required. The edger feature is easy to engage and does a decent job of cleaning up around paving stones and concrete, although it's not as powerful as gas and corded electric models when cutting extensive edges along walkways and driveways.

Weighing over 10 pounds, the Grass Hog may be a bit heavy for some users, but for small, light-duty jobs, most homeowners should find it to be quite manageable. As with all power equipment, trimmers must be handled with caution. Be sure to wear hand, eye, and foot protection when operating this serious piece of equipment. --Michelle McSweeney ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent trimmer, but it needs care
I bought my Grass Hog in 2000 and finally this spring it died. The battery wouldn't recharge.I found out where to order another one in another post (Dewalt Factory Service, online). That battery wouldn't recharge either, so I returned it to my local Service Center and they exchanged it, after asking if I had brought along the charger, too.The new battery wouldn't recharge, so I took it back to the Service Center along with the charger. The problem was my charger, not my battery. The gentlemen there gave me other tips which will probably keep my Grass Hog going for another 5 years.Store it inside in the winter.Inside does not mean in the garage, because that can still be cold enough to freeze the battery.I was lucky because I have an attached garage (slightly warmer) and I kept my Grass Hog on the charger all winter even though I wasn't using it.If you need to take it in for service, take the charger as well as the battery.

3-0 out of 5 stars Beware of battery charger
I have a B & D cordless moewer, cordless hedge trimmer and other power tools. They all have worked to my expectations.. EXCEPT the GRASS HOG'S battery charger. The trimmer seems to be fine.. but the charger doesn't work properly. The problem is not the battery, but the charger itself.I can't seem to find anyone who carries the charger in the Georgetown, Tx. area.I can't even get Home Depot to replace the charger.I would like to know a good brand name cordless trimmer/edger that is more reliable.

2-0 out of 5 stars Hurts your hands, battery doesn't last long
I don't like the B&D Grass Hog.It is uncomfortable to use, especially if you have arthritis in your hands, because you can't lock the power switch into the "on" position. You have to grip the lower switch with your 2nd through 5th fingers while simultaneously exerting heavy pressure on the upper switch with your thumb. After 10 minutes of this, I get serious pain in my hand and the muscles in my wrist.(I have the same problem with a B&D electric saw.)The battery doesn't last long, runs out after 15 to 20 minutes. The trimmer doesn't work well with tall grass. There are only two advantages:the trimmer has an automatic feed, no bumping needed, and it's electric, so you don't have to store cans of gasoline in your basement. But all in all, it's easier (and cheaper) to trim grass and weeds the old-fashioned way, using hand clippers. ... Leatherman 61010103Original Leatherman Pocket Survival Tool with Leather Belt Sheath
    Tools & Hardware
    list price: $46.07
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

This is the tool that started the Leatherman revolution. Despite the introduction of new and more elaborate models from Leatherman, the Original remains a popular tool. We like the tough, compact design of the Original, as well as the high quality of the blades and tools. The jaws of the pliers are extremely tough. The Original packs a pretty impressive assortment of tools, including wire cutters, a knife, a metal/wood file, a can/bottle opener, an awl/punch, a nice assortment of Phillips screwdrivers, and more--all perfect for quick, on-the-spot jobs. It's true that the big knife blade would be more effective if it faced the other way, and that having to open the whole thing to get at any of the tools is less than ideal (both issues have been addressed in Leatherman's Wave). But it wasn't so long ago that the Original Leatherman was the only choice, and it's still a great addition to any toolbox, remaining just as handy as when it first came out. --Brian Trinen ...
