    Editorial Review

When it comes to jointers, there aren't a lot of differences among the leaders in the market. Like other manufacturers, Jet uses heavy-duty cast iron in the fence, jointer base, and infeed/outfeed tables and offers a three-blade drum and built-in 4-inch dust port. Their design, however, features a couple of innovations that changed our "jointers are jointers" mindset. While the infeed tables in other models can only be raised or lowered with a rod or lever system, this machine's design allows you to adjust both of the feed tables by rotating smooth, industrial-style hand wheels. This feature lends itself to easier tapers and gives you more control when you need to take off precise measurements, like 1/64 of an inch, a setting that can frustrate woodworkers lifting the arms up or down on other machines. The fence glides extremely smoothly throughout its range of motion and tilts both ways, but, where other brands offer fixed stops only at 45 and 90 degrees, Jet's jointer adjusts to quickly reproduce multiple cuts at any angle you find necessary. Driven by a 4,850 rpm, 1-horsepower induction motor completely encased in a welded steel stand, this jointer comes prewired for 115-volt outlets and can be converted to run off 230-volt sources. As a final touch, Jet designed the industrial start switch with holes behind the button for locking with a readily available Master Lock to keep coworkers or family members safe from accidental injury. --Justin Paul ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent machine
Picked one up a couple months ago.

Everything was right on.Assembled it according to the instructions and it cut like a dream.I tested it out with some scraps of oak I got at my wood supplier.Great finish and perfectly straight after running them through a couple times.

Machine has little vibration. Not too loud.Plenty of power.

Like every machine that has the typical 'fan belt', the vibration can be reduced with a link belt, along with a reduction in noise.Hearing protection is a must with any wood cutting operation, just as important as safety glasses.

I went a long time without a jointer and have greatly increased the quality of my work with it.If you are looking to add a nice piece of equipment to your shop to help you produce better results, I would recommend this jointer.

This machine has all the right features.First thing to do is coat the fence and table surfaces with Slip-It or a non-silicon wax. It's a night and day difference when the wood easily glides across the table and when you have to force it.

For a 6" jointer it was the Jet or the Delta. For me, the Jet had the edge with the hand crank adjustment of the infeed and outfeed tables.

Update:Did some rabbiting cuts with it and it worked great.Seemed alot easier and safer than using a router.Finish on the cuts was excellent.Hogged out about 1/4" in a single pass in hard maple with no problem.

    Hope this helped.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect jointer for the home shop
After doing considerable research on jointers, I knew that I wanted to purchase an excellent one for the money. My requirements were that it had to come from a reputable manufacturer, be reliable, solid, and powerful.

My research led me to this Jet jointer and I haven't been disappointed since. When you power it up, the silky smooth hum of the motor belies it power. It seems to be saying, "time to rock."Dust collection is very efficient, the supports are dead-flat, and the motor is incredibly powerful.I mean I face jointed 5.5" 8/4 hard maple on this puppy...

Everything about this machine is just right:the feel, the look, the reliability. There are some things that can't be expressed in words. So if you have access to one, give it a try.Or just save yourself the time and just buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Jointer And Tough As Nails
Have had mine for over 5 years and still runs like a top. I take it out to jobsites often and even after being knocked around and all over it still purrs like a kitten. In fact it once fell out of my truck and the only thing that happened was I broke the outfeed table adjustment wheel ( not that I ever move it ) and a couple of scratches. The only tinkering I have to do with it is when I change the knives. Other than that, turn it on and go! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Saw
I recently purchased the Jet JWTS-10JF and am pleased with the purchase. The saw has excellent power and precision.Amazon's shipping was impressive as well - saw was sent immediately and arrived within a week.Back to the saw...Despite complaints from others that the instructions were inadequate or difficult to understand, I found them clear and had no trouble assembling the saw in approximately four hours.I was impressed that the newer Jet Micro Glide fence was included in the purchase.I find it far superior to the older Jet Fence that previously came with this model. My one complaint about this model is that the stamped steel wings are inadequate.I was advised by wise carpenters that cast iron wings are nice but not essential.I disagree. The steel wings are difficult to adjust to level with the cast iron table top and appear to be too lite (the saw has a mild vibration despite being properly assembled). If I could do it over again, I'd spend the extra money and buy the same saw, but with the cast iron wings (708300K).Aside from that minor complaint, you're going to get a great saw!

3-0 out of 5 stars I Know It Sounds Like I Have A Lot Of Complaints, but...
OK, so most tools are made in China these days... and they have gotten much better than in the old days at making them too.
First of all, I am glad to finally have a table saw.I have been shopping for over two years and was not really sure I wanted the Jet (actually my first pick, but had since developed some doubts) until the Christmas tool sale at Lowe's.Had it not been for that I can't say that I would have committed to this saw had it still been at full price. The bargain price lured me in (much better than here), but if you're like me, you want to know what I like and dislike about it.

The bad first, in order of personal annoyance:

    1. The steel extension tables. They are hard to get right and you will have to expect to "bend" them in order to do it. I have been at it for a month now and am still not happy. Spend $100 more, get the next model up with the cast extensions and save the time for some other projects. I hate the steel extensions and was concerned about them even as I was forking over the money.

    2. The fence and miter gauge. They are both just OK, but to get real accuracy you will need to spend at least another $400-$500 to replace both... the cheapest I could find (Rockler.com)Or for a total of $950-1000.00+/- (saw included) for good controllable, stable set ups. (edit: I am an old cuss and not wanting this fence to get the better of me, I have come to terms with it after much playing around... I'd still replace the miter gauge, but it is usable as long as you check it carefully after EVERY adjustment.Don't rely on the scale or the "flip-stop" to do it for you. It won't!) I think a tool made in China (cheap labor and material.Remember all those American jobs lost to China?) and distributed by an American company could do better... even in a base model saw.The Xacta fence should be standard, trash the "JetFence."

    3. Before I made any important cuts with this tool I immediately replaced the drive belt with a Power Twist. My cheap Jet now runs smoother than my neighbors' more expensive Delta. He is jealous and doesn't know why.Don't ask, just DO-IT!!It's WELL worth the $30.00 investment.

    4. The safety splitter and anti-kickback paws are nearly useless. They are difficult to install and uninstall when necessary.OK, we all know that most people who actually use their table saw remove these items most of the time, but isn't it time that someone come up with a quick release/quick setup for these safety items?(As I have discovered since, they do.... Expect to spend $150-430.00 for that privilege. What a bargain. }:-( ) I would use them more often if it weren't for the time it takes to uninstall them when I need a dado blade, or am running 4" tall material through the blade. The anti-kickback paws won't allow for 4" material. Etc, etc....

    5. The dust collection "hood" stinks!I will replace this too, with a Dust Monkey and to the tune of another $50.00. (Edit: As it turns out, I made my own.See my review of the Jet hood.)

    6. The blade/arbor adjustment controls seem to be way out of reach, beneath the saw table top, and are not intuitive.Maybe it's just me.

    7. Mostly the manual was enough for setup. I set mine up, as others have said, in about four hours, except a few areas where I found it lacking: It was a little vague in the area of converting the saw/motor to 230 volt operation, like what current (amps) it would draw at 230?Should I install a 20 amp plug, receptacle and breaker, or a 30 amp? (Install the 20 amp if you convert); Also a few more suggestions about lining up and leveling the side extensions would've been nice, like how to bend them more accurately; and finally, not all the various hardware bags were clearly marked and I found myself guessing... correctly as it turns out, at what hardware the manual was referring to.

Note: For those who have read other customer reviews here, mine did come with it's own blade. It's a 40T, carbide tipped, and it ain't bad either! It does leave a little to be desired in the cross-cutting department.i get some tear-out with it, but it's OK.I will replace it with a better (Re: $$$$$$) one eventually, but it is quite good for a "get acquainted" type blade.

    The good:

    1. The motor is strong and starts, and pulls evenly to full speed.

    2. The arbor assembly is strong and smooth operating.

    3. The blade (see above comments.)

    4. For the most part the saw was easy to setup, except as noted above.

    5. Having a decent table saw is much preferred to having no table saw at all.

Suggestion: I know that not everyone is as lucky as I am to have a good sized, dedicated building for my shop, but no matter how much room you have or don't have, get the mobile base.
Jets' own works well and is easy to set up but is a little clumsy in actual use.The Jet base has four individual wheels/casters to lock and unlock which is not so convenient when you have 30" fence rails to get around, and it doesn't allow for side-to-side movement but it is reasonably priced to buy. (edit: less so after a $10.00 increase) Perhaps someone else makes one that's a little more convenient to use...?

My recommendation, if you are set on getting the Jet saw, get the model with the cast iron side extensions (usually about $100 more) and, if the funds allow, the Xacta fence. If you are cutting a lot of sheet material plan on building or buying a side table extension and an outfeed table.

I hope this helps and Good Luck!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good entry level saw.
I bought this saw with the $100 rebate from the drill press. It's heavy, so have someone there to help you assemble the motor onto the trunions.Decent amount of power for an entry level shop saw.Assembly took a couple of hours, but pretty straight forward. As with any saw, the quality of the cut is going to boil down to fence to blade alignment and quality of blade.Spend some $$ on a good blade (and keep it clean) and take the time to ensure the fence is tapering a few thousands of an inch away from the blade at the trailing end.

    Only complaints:
    1) Dust collection with my 1 1/2hp two bag collector is medicore, even after I closed many of the open areas (but hey, it's a Contractor style saw, so that's to be expected).

    2) Aligning the splitter has to happen everytime after you take it off for a dado. It's tedious, and a knuckle scraper. If you remove the guard often, buy an aftermarket splitter/ gaurd that has quick mounting.

    Overall:
Excellent saw for the price.I'd expect those complaints from this price range....so really there is nothing that I didn't expect.Happy cutting!!

    Editorial Review

Jet's 12-inch band saw is an affordable machine that would make a great addition to any home workshop. The saw features a fully enclosed, 1/2-horsepower induction motor with a V-belt drive system that turns 2,750 sfpm and has heavy-duty cast-iron and steel components. Parts are well finished and the saw suffers little vibration. It boasts a 6-inch-high and 12-inch-wide cutting capacity, which is more than adequate for a saw of this price and size. The saw comes with an open-base stand that isn't as sturdy as the closed stands featured on larger models but is fine for this smaller-application saw. The saw uses 82-inch blades from 1/8 to 1/2 inch and features the same V-groove guide and steel blade locks found on higher-end Jet saws. The 14-by-14-inch tilting table provides ample work space with plenty of room in front of the blade. We like that the industrial start/stop switch is designed to fit a padlock that helps prevent accidental start-up and discourages unauthorized use of your saw. It comes prewired for 115-volt outlets and is quick to set up. --Justin Paul ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Think twice before you buy...
I recently ordered this bandsaw from Amazon (Tool Crib) for use in my growing collection of woodworking tools. Since my jointer has a max capacity of 6", I couldn't see much need for a bandsaw with a resaw capacity higher than 6". This 12" bandsaw has a max capacity of 6" for resawing.

First the good stuff. The item arrived in excellent condition and when promised. It was well packed and the assembly instructions were simple to follow. The finish is excellent and the adjustments were very easy to make.

Now my concerns: There was a significant amount of vibration when running this saw. I was able to bring the vibration down by making some adjustments to the tracking and the tension on the blade, but I could never get past the feeling that one of the wheels was out of balance. This is really the only complaint I have regarding the performance of the saw however I do want to make an observation.

As I mentioned above I purchased this saw for woodworking and I suppose that if I hadn't been so underwhelmed by the vibration it might have worked fine. But even without the vibration issue, knowing what I know now, I might still stay away from this saw.

Bandsaws, for woodworking at least, seem to fall in to two catagories: hobbiest and woodworking. The hobbiest versions are those small ones that you see sitting on the work bench being used for cutting small pieces of plywood or flat boards. Woodworking versions are the ones you see standing on the floor that are able to do all the flat cutting as well as resawing (to some extent at least).

This saw seems be in the gray zone between hobbiest and woodworker and I don't know if it really comes up to snuff at either. It's more than a hobbiest might need (for size alone) but not really enough for even the semi-serious woodworker. It just doesn't have the "gravity" that I want a machine like this to have.

So, I am sending mine back and having to pick up the return shipping to boot. Not that I blame Amazon. I should have listened to that little voice urging me to spend a bit more. Oh well, hopefully someone can benefit from this review and I can consider this a lesson learned.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a nice saw for the small shop
First band saw for me. Very nice fit and finish, easy to adjust. Plenty of power with no noticable vibration. This saw has a fairly small footprint if you're tight on space, it's very convenient on a mobile base. I installed Cool Blocks on the upper and lower blade-guides and purchased additional blades. Resawed 6" walnut with great success, separated a series of small trim pieces from each other deftly, and cut curves in MDF to make bending-forms. Very pleased with the tool.

Dust collection is a must (a shop-vac works), and a magnetically attached work light is a big help. I wish the tool had been supplied with a rip fence and miter guide. I will probably purchase these two things since I'm tired of clamping wooden fences on the table (although this gets the job done). The stand is fairly lightweight, but is sufficiently stable on the mobile base. The saw is nice and solid and is probably all the tool I will ever need for my amateur furniture-making adventures.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very nice saw
Recieved the saw in good condition.Set up was a breeze. My second Jet tool and I like what I see.Fit and finish is excellent.Saws like a dream.I will look at Jet again. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

A good filtration system is as important as any tool in your shop, and the Jet AFS-1000 is a pretty inspired machine. Like other systems on the market, Jet's uses a two-filter process: an outer filter removes particles up to 5 microns in size and an inner, three-pocket filter traps particles as small as 1 micron. The electrostatic outer filter easily withstands three or four washings, and the inner filter can be blown clean easily with compressed air. On the power end, Jet's three-speed, 1/6-horsepower motor filters to 1044 cfm on high speed. The outer filter is well sealed and provides efficient intake. However, what really sets the AFS-1000 apart from most filtration systems is its remote control and timer features. Since these systems are most effective when placed high or hung from the ceiling, being able to control all of the unit's functions via remote control is a feature we quickly decided we wouldn't want to live without. The timer, which can also be set via remote, affords you the option to set it and forget it. --Justin Paul ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Machine, Horible Customer Service
Over the past three months, I have purchased 4 Jet woodworking machines including this one, to the tune of almost $2400.Until recently, I was planning to purchase a Jet Planer Molder and Performax Drumsander, but based on my recent experience with the WHM Tool Group, who makes this equipment, I am having second thoughts.Although I am for the most part happy with the machines I've purchased, when I was assembling my table saw, the fence that came with the saw did not match the one in the instructions, and I had to spend a considerable amount of time on hold with the WHM customer service department to find out how to mount it to the saw.I can live with that, but as I began to use the saw I discovered that although two arbor wrenches are required to change the saw blade, only one came with the saw. Although I don't think it is too much to ask that they throw in two $6 wrenches with a $1500 saw, I thought, I'd just order one from the WHM website. There I found that the Shipping for the $6 wrench would be $19.99.I sent a note to WHM regarding this requesting a reply, and did not receive one. When I called a week later, I was curtly told that the saw comes with only one wrench. When I asked why it would cost $20 to send a $6 wrench that would fit in a standard letter sized envelope, I was told that they do not ship via U.S Mail, and that was the end of the conversation.I ordered the wrench to the tune of $26.70, and was surprised again to find that it was back ordered with no expected date of delivery. I sent a copy of this rating to WHM tool group to give them a chance to respond, but again have received no response almost a week later. For what ever it's worth, if customer service is important to you and you don't want to have to purchase things that should come with the tool and then be charged three times the value of the item for shipping and handling you might want to consider another brand.

1-0 out of 5 stars No way to review when new unit fuse blows
Just purchasd the unit based upon all of the favorable reviews. Maybe I'm in the minority but when connecting the power and hitting "ON"...poof, the fuse trips. I reset the fuse, try again, and...poof, the fuse blows. The third try was not a charm. Based upon a new unit doing this, I have to rate it 1 star. Perhaps I will spend a little more and by the USA-made JDS.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good investment with many applications
Solid construction and performance all around; the unit is intended for ceiling mount but is just portable enough for my purposes. Considering the many favorable customer reviews here, I'm not alone in endorsing the AFS-1000B and have no regrets having purchased one. ... Read more

Unveil this secret weapon with the flick of a switch and establish a strong beachhead against dust in your home or shop. Powered by a 1-horsepower, 115-volt induction motor, Jet's 650 cfm dust collector comes with 2.67-cubic-foot bags that grab particles 30 microns and larger. The 9-3/4-inch steel blower wheel is stout enough to handle larger particle-producing applications. The entire unit sits conveniently on easy-to-roll casters, so moving it around the shop is no problem. A unique feature separating Jet's dust collectors from the competition is how easily the lower bag can be removed and reattached. There's a handy flexible metal band that snaps quickly into place--which is a hundred times easier than wrestling with cinch straps. The machine stands only 66 inches tall and is ideal for small shops. There's only one dust port; you have to set up to larger models for two ports. A great carpenter once referred to sawdust as "the indomitable scourge silently mounting in woodshops nationwide." Well, now there's something you can do about it. --Justin Paul ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great addition to my shop
After setting up the dc650, I couldn't believe i waited so long to get one. I was using a 6HP shop vac, and I figured that would be good enough for my tools. Bad idea... i ended up with a lot of saw dust clogs in my planer, band saw, and especially planer (dw 735 -- an awesome machine) which instantly clogged the shop vac pipes. this dust collector is significantly quiter and far stronger. using 4" is also much nicer than the 2" shop vac tubes.

Note that the unit doesn't come with any tubing ... you'll want to buy some lengths of 4" tubing (not dryer vent tubing get dust collector tubing, preferably clear so you can make sure there are no clogs) and some 4" hose clamps. For my set up, i've put in a variety of hard 4" pipes (sewer pvc) and then put in blast gates, t's, etc and various reducers to hook up to all of my equipment. since my shop space is limited, i move the dust collector around to hook up in to my hard runs or machines directly. my areas is way cleaner and my tools are way happier. get one!

    3-0 out of 5 stars JET DC-650/708640
I bought this Dust Collector just about a year ago. First, I found it almost inpossible to get the standard 30 micron filters to snap in place. On advice from another owner on this forum I purchased a set of 5 micron bags from Penn State Industries to cut down on dust escaping through the filter bags. These bags although they were advertised to fit the DC 650, by the time you got them in place and sealed with the spring loaded 20" retaining clips you end up with bunched up pleats which allow dust to escape through. The DC 650 does work well to collect the saw dust produced while sanding on my Powermatic 2442 lathe but I think there are better designed collectors out there that for a few more dollars wouldn't have these design deficiencies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Collector For The Small Shop
I've had mine for years and it works great. I use primarily at the Miter Saw since that's the only tool in my shop that is stationary. For any small shop it works great. This used to be my DC for my basement shop before I moved into the garage. The only problem I had with it was on my belt/disc sander. It didn't pick up the dust that well but the there was roughly 25 feet of hose and PVC to go thru. Not the DC's fault. Overall, I'd recommend it for any small shop ... Read more

For you furniture makers out there who find yourselves spending more time than you'd like setting up the mortising attachment on your drill press (then taking it off, again), JET's affordable benchtop mortiser ought to be a welcome addition to your woodshop's tool collection. Designed to take up to 1/2-inch chisel bits, JET's benchtop mortiser runs off a 1/2-horsepower induction motor. At only 44 pounds, the tool is sturdy but also easily maneuvered, plus it reverses on its base to allow for mortising in long stock. The 4-3/4-inch head stroke is great. Bits are easy to change. Just flip open the steel door on either side (these doors are made of flimsy plastic on some of the competition's models) to gain easy access to the chuck. And, thanks to the 4-inch chuck key, there's little chance of banging or scraping your knuckles while switching bits (a small touch, perhaps, but a nice one). We also like the quick-setting depth stop on this tool--as well as the removable toggle switch that keeps less-experienced (or child-size) hands out of harm's way. The mortiser's feed handle adjusts, too, so you can choose the most comfortable position for each application--another nice touch. Set on a heavy-duty cast-iron base with four predrilled mounting holes, this dependable machine allows any woodworker, from the beginner to the expert, to create fantastic-looking mortise-and-tenon joints. --Justin Paul ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good Machine For the Money
You cant really go wrong here with this mortise machine.I read all the reviews prior to buying this machine about the shipping damage and was holding my breath hopeing mine would make it in one piece but I have to say the packing could use some work. The cast iron base was cracked about 4 inches when it arrived.I called Jet and they sent one out UPS ground right away with no problems. The only other problem I found with the machine is the fence is not straight. Its off about 3/16 inch or better on alignment due to the hole not being bored straight through the body of the machine during manufacture.I cut some really nice mortise joints through some red oak and the machine works very good. The bits that came with it are very sharp and seem to function great.Would have gave it 5 stars if not for the fence problem. All in all not bad for the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars good for the hobbyist
I've built several projects with this mortiser over the past year.It has done a great job.The stop mechanism works great, it's sturdy, and the chisels that come with it are plenty sharp.I've built about 4 tables with this machine, and I am currently building a cabinetmaker's bench, which requires me to bore mortises about 3 inches deep.Since I am using poplar for my base it didn't bog down the motor like maple would, however, the base wasn't wide enough to accomodate the large legs.No biggie:Rockler sells an extension table for this model that I am considering buying.

I wish they would have included mounting hardware (like my Delta drill press), so that I could mount it without any further trips to the hardware store. ... Read more

Criticism of this jig for jet supersaw would be eliminated if owners would order the right part number 708111SSK for the Jet Supersaw. Amazon does not carry it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Does not work with SuperSaw
I purchased the Jet Supersaw with the sliding table and the tenoning jig at the same time. I was terribly disappointed when I completed the setup and discovered the jig will not work with my saw--- grrrrrr! It would have been nice to know all of this in advance, but there is no mention of it anywhere in manuals, or other sources. The reviewer who said Jet was going to produce a plate to retrofit to the jig and make it compatible with the Supersaw did not get the whole story from Jet- it is still not available as of this date (1-31-04).

I gave it one star because it looked like it might be a good piece of equipment- that is, if I could use it.

So, if you own the Supersaw with the sliding table- stay away!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Accurate jig
I am building some dining room table chairs, each one requiring 42 mortise and tenon joints, with a bunch of them requiring angled tenon connections.Tried to cut some of the angled tenons using my tablesaw and dado set, but result was inaccurate and rough. This jig cuts beautiful clean, accurate tenons.

It is true that the scale cannot be used to precisely set the distance from the table saw blade, but I always make a practice cut first anyway before cutting my real work pieces, so this does not really bother me.

Set up only took about 15 minutes, and the miter slot bar is a very good fit into the slot in my tablesaw.Wish I had gotten this tool sooner. ... Read more

A 16 amp motor and four post locks make JET's 12-1/2-inchportable planer a high-powered, remarkably sturdy shop tool. JET'splaner uses two double-edged knives, which you can also sharpen to makeyour blades last. A thermal overload switch monitors the tool's motor, automatically shutting it down if the motor heats up more than itshould--another nice feature that adds life to a planer. The cutterheadcranks up to handle 6-inch material, or cranks down to clean up veneeras thin as 1/16 inch. The tool weighs 69 pounds, so it has good heftand stability while remaining "portable." When the planer is not inuse, the 10-inch extension wings fold up for storage. Two pass-backrollers on top of the planer make it easy for a spotter to slide longerpieces back to the guy feeding the planer; it's not a big deal, perhaps, but it's the sort of attention to detail we've come to expectfrom JET. Here's another: the on/off switch detaches, so you can lockthe planer in the off position when it's not in use, keeping yourworkshop safe from curious hands. --Jon Groebner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great planer!
I have had this planer for over two years!
Have run 100's of board feet of white oak through it with NO problems at all.

I always thought that this planer would not make it with my use but it keeps working great. The depth adjustment is always right on for me.For some time I have been thinking that a bigger planer should be in my shop. Many times the depth of cut was pretty deep just to see if I could burn this one up and have an excuse to get a bigger planer....well it just won't burn up!

You need the additional dust collection chute for this unit. It's a must to have it connected to a dust collector, will NOT run without it!

1-0 out of 5 stars Be aware of what you really need in a planer...
I do small remodeling and custom cabinet work. When I looked into purchasing a 12" planer the Jet unit seemed to be the right choice. It arrived o.k. and worked out of the box. Now, here comes the kicker...what I really required was a much heavier unit to accomplish my type of work.

The unit spits out quite a bit of wood chips and there is no dust collection included. After calling Jet, and paying a whopping [money], plus handling, the simple metal accessory arrived (4" connection) and accomplished the necessary dust connection for my big collector.

The next problem showed up in the height adjustment setting. You test the demensioning of a piece of stock, set the depth adjustment a bit tighter, and begin your first run. The vibration shakes the machine and the depth adjustment handle begins a slow return to a less pressure position.Simply put, it opens the gap.The "fix" was positioniong a clamp each time a new adjustment is required to hold the handle in place. This is a bother!

The next problem came with the two rollers on top. They fell off!I gathered the fallen pins and after applying "lock tight", reinstalled them. This fixed this problem!

The primary problem is in my application.I have attempted to run "old" reclaimed cypress and pine through the planer and I get a lot of noise and little planing! The TWO planer blades and the SMALL MOTOR don't have the power to handle this work.

So...if you are a hobby type of person looking for a cheap way to plane your stock; well, there is no cheap way to accomplish it.You will have to settle for small width boards (less power required), soft woods with few knots (less power requjired) and get your clamp out to hold the adjustment.

On the plus side for the Jet, the planer blades can be removed and replaced with the jig (included with your planer)in short order. You must attach the two jig fittings to the bar and position them properly; there is a front and back to the contact points.Anyone with commom skills can make quick work of all this.

For me, I'm purchasing the next Jet in the HP chain, the [money] unit which I hope will solve all these problems.

If you only have [money], and can fit into the mold above, go for it.But, remember what I've told you.

All this from a fellow woody kind of a guy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of Class
After several months of review reading and research I picked the Jet.Several woodworking mags rated it higher than the Delta and a better value than the Ryobi. Here's the clincher - JET CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AMAZING.I may just buy all Jet tools from her on out because the Customer Service Dept is so incredibly helpful and accomodating (ask for Dan - he's the man!).Happy sawdust making. ... Editorial Review

To woodworkers who know the reputation of Jet products, the merit of this 12-inch variable-speed lathe should come as no surprise. Start with the guts of any tool, the motor. Prewired for 115 volts and fully encased in a metal housing for longer life, its 3/4-horses turn material at 500 to 3,000 rpm, depending on which of the six speeds you select. The cast-iron lathe bed, headstock, and tailstock provide superior vibration dampening and durability, while the heavy-gauge steel components and stand give rigid support. Pivoting 90 degrees for outboard turning of up to 16-1/2 inches on larger projects, the MT-2 headstock protects a Reeves drive pulley system with which we made quick and easy speed changes. Down on the other end, the hollow tailstock allows for longer hole bores and houses a live center, a luxury standard on all Jet lathes not found in much of the competition.

You'll love the versatility that comes with 34-1/2 inches between working centers and a 12-inch swing capability over the bed (8-3/4 inches over the tool-rest base). All adjustments, whether extending the ram its full 2-1/4 inches or sliding the 12-inch tool rest, move fluidly and clamp down tight with little effort. Designed for use over the long haul, this tool has all the qualities professional woodworkers demand. --Justin Paul ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great lathe for the money!
I have only had this lathe for a week.It went together easy and has worked flawlesly.I also got the Super Nova2 chuck which is a necessary accessory I believe.I have been turning 5" to 8" bowls so I have not had any vibration problems.I do plan to add some weight down the road for bigger bowls. I have not tried to turn a bowl with the headstock rotated 90 degrees but will try it soon.It will handle up to 16" they say.A great buy!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun
I bought this as my first lathe in 20 years. I never really got going before and was a little concerned. What a joy to use, no vibration, easy accessories and just plain fun. In addition to my wood shop I also have a metal shop and use those lathes quite a bit. No other piece of gear I have bought in the last 10 years has been this easy to set up and fun to be creative with. I went out to the woods and gathered some burls from dead fallen trees. This lathe handled those hard difficult pieces with no problem. I would definitely agree with one of the other reviewers that you want to work with sharp tools (this is of course true with all wood working tools. I highly recommend this lathe to anyone wanting to try out turning.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another Great tool form Jet
I purchased my Jet lathe when it went on sale at Woodworkers warehouse before they closed, And as many other have just for the fun of it I had no jobs line up for it at first but boy it was a great buy. As a starter on the lathe I cant not find one complant with this product. Do you have to weigh it down? well that is all on how much you are turning but when you have to place wood across the supports and toss what every you have that has weight on it. no problem. I have to say for the money Jet did Good on this one. (to any one who is thinking about turning, try it you wont be sorry ) As for your Turning Set besure to shop around the best price is not always the best package. I got my lathe with the Turning chisels and face sheild which in the long run ran me cheaper to get as a package. it may be cheaper for you as well. 4 stars being I got what I paid for. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Permanent Clamp
I recommend these clamps to anyone who needs to permanently clamp their 4" hose to an outlet, adapter, inlet, etc. They form a good tight seal and do not fall off once properly tightened down.
I would not recommend these type clamps for an application where you would be moving the hose to different tools or positions.Reason being, one you would have to get your screw driver or socket wrench out, and two because the wear and tear of the clamp tightening on the hose over and over again would eventually wear a hole in the hose.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Clamp for Fixed Hoses
Good quality clamp. Well made without sharp edges. Threads worked flawlessly. Dual ring securely attaches dust hose to any connection.

However, the bolt head sticks out about 2". This is not a problem on fixed position installations, but it is inconvenient for portable dust hoses. For the rare end connection that will be moved from machine to machine use the standard hose clamps with a low profile blue handle.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hands Down - The Best Clamp
I read other reviews before purchasing this clamp and am really glad I did. What I like is that the wires make great contact between the ribs of the hose and screw down very tight. Later I purchased the flat band kind from a local store and agree that this wire type is much better. It's much beefier than I thought it would be. Definitely the best clamp I've come across. ... This product perfectly fit my system, going from the 4" hose to the 4" port on my tools. The adapter is quick and easy to install and forms a good seal.
The only 4" port on any of my tools is made of plastic. This adapter is made from a very hard plastic. While the hard plastic makes it very resilient to drops and abuse, it makes it very slick.Several times when the tool began to vibrate, the quick release, released and fell to the floor.I am going to wrap my tool's port with electrical or duct tape at the contact point to try and add some friction between the plastic on plastic connection.I think the adapter would hold better on a metal port, but I do not have any metal ports to test this theory.
In all fairness to this adapter, the 4" port on my tool is made of a very slick plastic.Wrapping the tip of the port with duct tape should eliminate any unintentional "quick" releases.

This entry-level scroll saw from Delta has only the bells and whistles that thehome hobbyist really needs. It's a cut above their SS200 model, differing mostly in that itoffers variable speed and the Quickset II blade-changing system, both handy features. The cast iron, round table--measuring 11-3/4 inches in diameter--will tilt to 45 degrees tolet you cut bevels. When you're done, a positive stop brings the table back accuratelyperpendicular to your blade. If you're looking to do some interior scrolling, this saw is agreat choice at a good price. Its Quickset blade-changing system allows you to drill yourpilot hole, snap open the Quickset chuck, run the blade easily through your pilot hole, andseat it back in the Quickset chuck--a snap, and you're cutting. Blade tensioning isaccomplished with a fingertip control, extending your blade life and preventing snappedblades. The nifty built-in blower keeps your cut line clear. The saw has onboard bladestorage, as well as a pretty generous 16-inch throat capacity (the distance from the bladeto the inside back of the saw). You can buy a stand for it or mount it on your workbench;either way, predrilled holes in the tool base will make that job a breeze. --Kris Jensen- Van Heste ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars surprised to see others
Wow i am surprised to see 2 other people who had the exact same problem I had. The saw worked great for the price for about 4 months of light use, then without warning the upper arm assembly snapped. Its going to cost about $25 for the parts. I dont know if its worth it. It is sad to see Delta go this direction after so many years of good tools.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Delta SS250 Everything A Pro Needs
A little over two years ago I bought a Delta SS250 Variable Speed Scroll Saw to replaced my old Dewalt 20 inch Variable Speed Scroll Saw after the motor burned for the second time in only two years of service.I have been using my SS250 for over two years now with no problems. Some of the other saw I have use have a table that pivots both right and left, this is the one draw back with the SS250, it only pivots to the left. However, this has not been a problem for me and the work that I do.If you don't need a saw bigger the 16 inches, there is no need to buy a more expensive saw.The SS250 is a very well made saw and is unsurpassed in quality, and if you don't need a table that tilts both left and right, you can't do any better with any saw on the market. There's nothing you can't do with this saw that you can do with any other, no matter how much you pay, and the SS250 is more powerful and built better then most I have used, including my old 20 inch Dewalt Scroll Saw that I paid almost $400.00 for.I'm not saying that the SS250 is the best 16 inch saw on the market, I'm saying it's as good as any saw on the market, and it's built like a tank!I do wish the variable speed dial and power switch was in the front of the saw, but this no big deal.

I would recommend the Delta SS250 to anyone looking for a 16 inch variable speed scroll saw that's well built and has a powerfull heavyduty motor, and will stand up to extensive uses over long periods of time. The variable speed range is as wide as any 16 inch saw on the market, you can work with both hard and soft woods and metals, or just about any other material. Also with the SS250 there's very little vibration, making it a great saw for fret work also.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Impressed
I bought this unit at Sears about a year and a half ago and right away found the blade vibration side-to-side was awful. In addition the blower tube did not work.I took the unit back to Sears and they repaired it.The blower tube will remove very light dust if I can get the outlet close enough to the material but that is as good as it gets. The blade movement is still the same and Sears says there is nothing they can do about it.I have tried bolting the unit down but that only served to vibrate EVERYTHING else off of the work bench(even an impact wrench).I can make pretty good cuts on soft wood up to 1/2 inch or hardwood up to 1/4 but thats it.Try anything more and the blade wanders all over the place no matter how it is tensioned.Maybe I just got a lemon but I have yet to have a good experience with anything in the "shopmaster" line. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The 1617PK can be converted to EVS
I'm not sure why anyone would buy this 1617PK on Amazon when the variable speed version 1617EVSPK is available for a lower price.Variable speed is critical to control as the size of the router bit changes -- larger bits need to run at lower RPM. Anyways, I did buy this 1617PK because it was on mega-clearance at Lowes. After some schematic research, I found there are only 4 things different between the 1617PK and 1617EVSPK: the EVSPK has an added speed control, larger motor housing cover for the added speed control, and a different armature and field (the motor itself).I bought the speed control and cover for $30 through a local tool repair shop and now I have essentially the 1617EVSPK router for a steal of a price. It's not exactly the same because I didn't upgrade the armature and field...which would have drawn 1.0 more amps and provided about 1/4 more HP.So my point is that if you already have this single speed router, all is not lost and you can convert it to EVS if you really want, but if you haven't bought this, buy the EVSPK to begin with.

I own a Bosch 1613EVS plunge router and love it but wanted a dual base system too.Bosch routers are known for comfort and precision. They're kind of like the Toyota's of tools: well engineered tools that aren't the very best but consistently high performing and long lasting. The irritating things about this 1617PK/EVSPK router are the lack of a built-in dust control connection/system, non-centered base that requires the purchase of a centering cone or bit, and proprietary guide bushing system that requires an adapter to use the Porter-Cable standard guide bushings.Small things that I bought accessories to address but would've been better if they were part of the kit.Because of those things, I was convinced I would eventually get the Porter Cable 894VK combo kit until I heard how bad the plunge was on it.It's perfect on the Bosch, with Bosch being pretty much the only brand that covers its plunge posts to prevent dust from entering. The only other thing I don't like is that, unlike my 1613EVS plunge router, the 1617 doesn't have an on/off trigger on the plunge handle. But in the end, I'm a Bosch loyalist and because of the Lowes clearance, I now have two Bosch routers and am happy with both.

5-0 out of 5 stars This router is awesome
It has been over 20 years since I did any sort of woodworking in junior high school shop class, and am just now starting to get back into it. Somewhere along the line I decided that I needed to get a router, so after reading lots and lots of stuff, I got the 1617PK. I think it is probably the best power tool I have purchased so far.

Tonight I used the router for the first time. Actually, it was the first time I have EVER used a router. I am very very impressed! I had absolutely no problems with the thing getting bogged down, even when I hit a knot in a piece of plywood. It just went right through it and there was no speed change at all.

This router is built like a tank, too. I have never seen a power tool that just looked beautiful. This thing does. The fit and finish is most excellent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just Outstanding...
I recently purchased the Bosch 1617PK (bought the kit for versatility) and could not be more pleased. This router performs extremely well for the work I put to it (making picture frame moldings).I have it mounted in a Bench Dog router table setup and in this configuration it is just the ticket! If I want to put it to other uses, all I have to do is open up the suitcase-sized carrying case and select the shell that best suits the impending job.Another Bosch triumph...yes I own and use Bosch tools on a near exclusive basis and think the world of them. ... Editorial Review

Well-executed design combined with solid, reliable performance make this Bosch belt sander a tool with noticeable performance advantages. The Bosch features a magnesium-and-plastic housing that's lightweight yet durable. The tool is nicely balanced, comfortable, and easy to operate--important features in a tool that's often used for long periods of time for removing large amounts of stock. The Bosch comes with a cast-aluminum platen--so there's none of the warping that affects stamped-steel platens--and it sands perfectly flat right out of the box. Like many of the sanders in this class, the motor on the 1274 is aligned with the belt edge to allow flush sanding into corners. The tool's only drawback is that visibility is limited when sanding into tight corners, but that's a small minus when weighed against all the pluses. The belt-changing system works well--we didn't suffer any spring pinches--and the tracking adjustment tracks the new belt quickly and keeps it in place. There's a variable-speed dial built right into the trigger switch, which makes adjusting the belt speed fast and convenient. Wood magazine tested 10 3-by-21-inch sanders and liked the 1274DVS best. We agree that it's a great tool. --Mark McDonald ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars best of all light duty belt sanders
I worked for years using an inexpensive belt sander with no dust collection system to speak of , at the time none had these .
I wanted something a bit larger and tested several newer models out .
I found myself with a ryobi in similar design as the bosch .
It was fine and I truely enjoyed the balance .
Then I had an issue with the speed control getting hot and soon it quit and off the find another brand . This time it was makita and a rather large 3 x 24 inch belt with one speed .
Yes it was powerful and heavy , most of the time I felt I would surely destroy anything and everything it came in contact with , one moments hesistation or lack of concentration and you found yourself with a deep grove because it tipped . Unbalanced side set motor , some people like these , I do not . I am all for learning to control and use a tool but I do not stand for a tool with a built in project distruct mechanism . Porter cable has an old time still in production inline giant that works very well , my father had one , just don't plug it in when on it's feet trigger lock on ,facing a double pane glass picture window .There is no stopping it and yes it does perform a nice mid air drive very slightly slowed by the forced penetration of shattered glass .

I leave this Makita sander for the jobs that need alot of fast stock removal , perhapes if I were refinishing a ship deck this would be the tool of choice . I was informed by the tool dealer in town this was the best sander around and it has been around for a good long time .
I want a belt sander to smooth edges and a small to large surfaces with confidence that's all , nothing that wants to drag me across the work suface at the flip of a switch .
This is where the bosch comes in , light and balanced , quiet and smooth , you are now in control not the tool .
Yes as someone else said the dust bag is not the one pictured on the box , out of curiousity I phoned bosch and it was politily expressed they had issues with static electical discharges that some people using the sanders did not understand , some people must have forgot simple science concepts and thought they were being electrically shocked with a high voltage .
Never the less the bosch did send me one of the original bags along with it's fittings and I must say the new square bag is better .
You can empty it very simply by putting a shop vac nozzle to the plastic bag port and suck the contents out and even if you want to do the job right shake the bag and all comes clean . No need to play with the plastic closure clip .
This sander does what it is designed for very very well indeed .

Light continues work with easily controlled stock removable for the finishing of a fine wood project that possess flat sides , not for what some find it for , clearing away years of warp and splinter on some rough fashioned sun deck that can comfortably seat 120 guests .

For this type of industrial endevor get the big ones , that's what their function is in life .

If you are looking for a belt sander for fine furnature work or do other work requiring precision and control and have always stayed clear do to the fear of belt sanders then the bosch IS without question the one , for you !
In closing , this belt sander does last and hold up very well , I have had not one single problem with mine , it has done alot of time saving work with me .

4-0 out of 5 stars dust bag a concern
Got mine today but the dust bag is not the more expensive one available at local retailers or pictured on the box or in the manual. The box came with the factory seal but I am perplexed why a very cheap bag that doesn't carry the Bosch name made of flimsy fabric was in the box. It does match the amazon picture but not anything from the Bosch website or the box. It is not of the same quality as the dust bag on my Bosch random orbit sander.

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent sander
I bought this sander after trying the Dewalt and having it die in about 15min of work. After researching other sanders, I discovered B&D owns Porter-Cable and Delta, along with Dewalt. Since every B&D tool I have ever purchased failed, I amhesitant to give B&D my money.

    I chose the B
