5-0 out of 5 stars Knot Satisfied
For bored people with money for buying knot books, but who don't actually own any ropes, this is a totally cool book because it actually comes with two ropes on its cover!

I've got my trucker's hitch all tied up on one of the several heavy cardboard pages in this book that have holes and slots in them for tying up ropes, with a prusik foot hold tied on to it already, and all just a few minutes gone. Now I only need to somehow actually get near some cargo or a truck one day!

For sure this book has all the great knots needed for any sort of the lame things I was vaguely thinking of maybe tying up with string some day.But hey, I might even go out and buy some rope after this!

5-0 out of 5 stars Most user-friendly knot book
For learning basic knots, this book is a great resource.Author prioritizes knots, indicating the three most useful.Diagrams are great.Ropes included with book are helpful.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nearly satisfying...
The aim of this book is to tie simple knots. As an introduction for children, this book may serve its purpose, but even at that, it tries too hard. The format and illustrations, though good, do not provide the necessary support for children to achieve the goal of tying these knots by themselves. If you are a parent, you'll have to learn how yourself, then teach your kids how to do it - which is fine.

This is a fun and "cute" book for kids that provides more entertainment thanlearning value. Once viewed, however, I suspect that the fluffy content will not attract a second look. Hopefully, the book does provide an outlet for curiosity that may develop into long-term interest in acquiring useful skills.

The book comes with rope, ready to be tied through holes in the covers. However, kids will NOT follow the attractive illustrations intuitively. Other books in the same price range are better for learning how to tie knots using more and clearer diagrams and descriptive text - though less attractively. For diehard enthusiasts, the most authoritative (and difficult!) book on knot tying is the venerable Ashley Book of Knots, by Clifford Ashley. ...

As an alternative to deciphering diagrams on a page, you could search ... for "Beutner Multimedia" to find a series of multimedia software CD-ROMs on knot tying adopted by the Boy Scouts of America. The CD-ROMs use video to show any kid or adult how to tie, splice, and knot at various skill levels using high quality video instruction performed by an expert. (Remarkably, the software runs entirely off the CD-ROM, without installation, on a PC.)

The best solution? Find a senior citizen to teach you how to tie the knots! In a relaxing afternoon, you can learn all of the knots you'll ever need without the frustration of following confusing diagrams.

Because this book does spark interest in acquiring an important skill, it earns a conditional recommendation of 3 stars. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great All Around Tow Rope
I've used all kinds of towing devices - straps with loops, chains, cables and etc., but this rope is the easiest and least likely to cause additional damage. The hook ends make it easy to attach to your vehicle. (Loop itaround the frame and then hook the rope with the hook, don't just put themetal hook through the frame.)I have not used this on anything biggerthan a 1/2 ton pickup so I don't know the upper limit. It is nice when youstart towing, the rope "gives & stretches" where a chain just"hits and jerks."this is alot easier on both vehicles.I'venever tried dragging logs with it, I still use my old chain for that! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Really don't waste your time
This small pamphlet had very few tie knots, three i think. And you can find better examples of them by serching on the Internet.
Tiny, and not even worth the shipping.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
I am so glad this book came out. My husband can never tie his tie right, and I just have the time to teach him over and over and over. I bought this book for my husband and he loves it. He can do it all by himself now!Wooo Hooo

5-0 out of 5 stars If Knot For You
Remember that great George Harrison tune?I miss him.Anyway, I bought this little book for my damn roommate Warren who used to make me tie his ties around my neck and then pass them back to him.Yes guys actually are that lame. But the book was good for me also because there are knots I didn't know existed. So now I keep a copy in my suitcase for my business travel. Some ties are bulkier than others so it's good to have knot options. The illustrations make it easy and the book is easy to flip through without wasting time searching.Hopefully someday the handkerchief or bowtie pictures may actually come in handy.Knot for Warren of course or George for that matter. Here comes my son. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Informative, yet flawed
I purchased several of these books to use as small gifts, and while they do make nice gifts, there are a few errors. At least two of the knots in the book give the wrong direction for the final loop, which can make what should be a symetrical knot (Windsor) into a fairly lopsided knot. The book does, however, give nine otherwise good, creative ways to tie a necktie.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ever wondered?
Have you ever wondered how many ways there are to tie ties? This book gives you more than you need to know, 9 to be exact. All knots are nicely illustrated with brief description on their characteristics. This bookcovers beyond classic Windsors and Four-in-Hand.I gave 4 stars, becauseit didn't cover the basic techniques, such as how to put a dimple in themiddle. Here is a hint for you.To achieve sharper looking knot, buy ashirt with 1/2" bigger neck size. This will help reduce tie-space,thus giving you smaller looking knot.

4-0 out of 5 stars I learned how to tie some very neat knots
Overall I thought the book was very straight foreward. This book takes you beyond the foolish 4;windsor, 1/2 windsor, 4- in -hand, and the bow. I've always seen excellantly tied ties in fashion advertisements and wonderedhow they did it.The fact is they are not using the knots mentioned above. The classic knot described in the book is very sharp semi-semetrical witha small vortex at the bottom. There was even two ways to tie the bow; oneeasier than the other. The only complaint is the layout of the diagramsalthough clear some were scatered all over the page making it difficult tofollow along. Money well spent for the man who is always looking for newways to look sharp! ... Read more
