Weber 2251001 Black Genesis Silver B Propane Gas Grill
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
    Lawn & Patio
    list price: $549.00

    Editorial Review

Weber's Genesis Silver B brings the convenience and precision of gas cooking to the great outdoors. This impressive system has enough cooking space for grilling gourmets to comfortably cook six large steaks, but the real value in this grill lies in its durability. The porcelain-coated steel lid is exceptionally strong and designed never to rust, fade, or peel. Three long-lasting stainless-steel burners--each with its own temperature control--cook countless meals evenly and efficiently. And the heat- and weather-resistant plastic work surfaces, handles, and wheels stand up to years of use.

Using this gas grill is easy. The push-button ignition system means you don't have to fuss with flints or matches. The grates and heat distributors are made from easy-to-clean porcelain-enameled steel and are designed to prevent flare-ups. The funneled bottom tray directs grease and cooking juices into a tidy, removable catch pan. And, if you're always wondering just how much propane is left in your tank, you'll love the accurate and easy-to-read fuel gauge that comes standard on this grill.

The barbecue pioneers at Weber know how to load up a grill with extras. The Silver B comes with a cooking box thermometer that doubles as a meat thermometer for more precise cooking needs. A rear warming rack and hanging basket are handy for keeping foods hot without overcooking. Utensil hooks and a sizeable exterior work area keep you organized as you spice, baste, poke, and turn your culinary creations. And a cookbook introduces you to an impressive array of grilling standards, from sizzlin' soul food to haute cuisine.

This grill comes partially assembled with clear step-by-step instructions. Even inexperienced grill mechanics can put it together in about an hour. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best grills on the market.
Weber produces teh best grills on the market. The only thing that I don't like about this model is the amount of "counter" space. The Genesis Gold B has extra room that I wish I would have on this model. There really is a difference grilling on this than on inferior grills.I would highly recommend it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Few Words About Weber Customer Service
I have owned a Weber Genesis 1000LX (Silver B) grill since 1998. This spring (2001) I noticed chipping and bubbling of the paint on both upper and lower sections of the black box. I emailed Weber and they said this was a defect. The paint didn't adhere to the metal. They assured me this was only cosmetic and would not effect operation of the grill so I could safely continue to use it. They would in the meantime ship replacement parts to a local service facility. Because this would require significant disassembly and then reassembly of the grill, they would send someone to my home to replace the parts. Mind you this was the whole box they were replacing because of chipping paint. Within 2 weeks time the mission was accomplished. This kind of support for a product is unheard of in this day and age. I cannot recommend Weber highly enough. They make a great product and back it up with a great support team. I raved about my Weber grill before and now I'm looking for an appropriate encore!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Weber Gas Grille, calledGenesis 1000 LX Seies
This was HARD to assemble.Got it last year. Hamburgers and steaks do NOT cook according to my preference--dark brown on the outside and rare on the inside. This grille seems to be designed for large cuts of meat and vegetables. If the grates were adjustable up and down, it would probably work fine for small cuts.Charcoal in a hibachi works better with steaks and 'burgers than this thing does. ... North States Industries 1767 Mini Gazebo Copper Roof Bird Feeder

    Lawn & Patio
    list price: $39.99

    Editorial Review

Feed your feathered friends in style with this beautiful hanging feeder from North States Industries. Crafted from either solid cedar or solid redwood, this charming feeder has an attractive copper-covered roof trimmed with painted green wood. It has a hexagonal-shaped seed tray and perch, and a clear plastic seed tube that holds 1-1/2 pounds of birdseed. With the clear plastic seed tube, it's easy to see when you're running low on food, and the roof lifts up to make filling the feeder a breeze. Plus, it comes with a hanging rope already attached. The manufacturer recommends the feeder be kept full at all times for the safety of birds (who can get their beaks caught in the openings) and that it be cleaned monthly to prevent the spread of avian diseases. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful but not squirrel proof
I enjoyed this lovely feeder all winter long until this spring, when the squirrels discovered it.They destroyed the thing. They broke the wood supports, chewed off the rope, and even started eating the plastic feeder tube! So, as attractive as it is, I would not recommend this feeder if you live in an area prone to squirrel abuse!

    5-0 out of 5 stars All-Star Feeder
I give this a 5-start rating because 5 is all there are! I bought this for my mother, who has everything, she loved it. It is lovely, classy, and very well constructed. The only difficulty was that the copper roof has a layerof celophane that is difficult to remove (which is of course an advantaveif you don't want a copper patina-effect). Nice product.

4-0 out of 5 stars Looks nice next to other feeders
This feeder looks particularly nice hanging next to feeders of other types, including tube feeders and the traditional "barn" type feeder. It stands up to the moisture of the pacific northwest, too, so Ithink it's well made. ... Read more

This is a great reading chair in reclining position. Then you can straighten it up, grab your computer, take a few notes, and kick back to recline, all with minimal effort. I got two of these black chairs for our uncovered deck last summer. The mesh dries off quickly after rain.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sleep in comfort
I have been sleeping in hammocks for five years now.I have had problems sleeping in beds for years.Because of my wide shoulders I cannot sleep on my side without "throwing my back out".I had purchased a bed that cost a couple of thousand dollars and when that did not take care of the problem, I did some thinking about how people have slept over the course of human history.

It occured to me that peoples who slept in hammocks seemed to stay with them longer then societies that slept on mats or beds of various kinds.I also found that hammocks seem to have evolved in all of the warm climate areas and since we no longer sleep out doors (not here in Maine anyway), I thought it made some sense to give it a try.

I have been sleeping very comfortably in a "Mayan" style hammock for these five years and needed to replace mine.I bought the "Taino" and found it to be more comfortable to sleep in than the "Mayan" style. It does not sag in the center as much, so that my arms are not pressed up against me, that might be something you would enjoy, but not I.Over time the smaller threads of the "Mayan" style get snagged and broken and repairs can be a little difficult when more then one are broken.Because of my three dogs, I need a hammock that can withstand some abuse (Yes, one of them has learned to sleep in the hammock with me) and the thicker cord is a positive in that respect.

My wife asked me to buy her a new "Taino" hammock to replace hers, so I ordered another one today.

If you are looking for a great nights sleep, this is the hammock I would recommend.

    Peace,
    James

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth it!
It was more than I expected. It was easy to hang, looks good, and most of all it is as comfortable as advertised. Too bad I don't have more places to hang more hammocks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better Than a Bed
Proof positive that you don't have to hanging under a palm tree on a white sandy beach to fully appreciate the hammock experience! These hammocks are perhaps the most blissful place one can rest, and it really doesn't matterwhether they are hung between support walls in your living room or strungbetween two trees in the backyard. I have spent countless hours perfectingmy hammock posture and in the course of this perfection have test-driven awhole bunch of hammocks. I can, with absolute certainty, tell you that thishammock is the stuff dreams are made of. It is constructed of a durable andsoft cotton that breathes with you and doesn't cause itchiness or thatunpleasant "Plastic" feeling. When it is strung up right, you caneither lay horizontally or vertically - it matters not because it'samazingly comfortable either way. Some of my most peaceful sleep anddreamiest dreams have come from hammock-induced slumber. I stronglyrecommend it for any and everyone considering their sleeping alternatives. The hammock isn't banished to the tropics anymore, and in fact looks justgreat in my Kansas living room. Trust me - get a little tired and get a bigole hammock! This one in partiucular will make your socks roll up and down! ... Read more

Instead of lugging around a heavy terra cotta pot this season, why not give your back a break and try a Fiskars/American Design Thermo-Lite pot instead? Made of an extra-lightweight material, it's significantly easier to move than planters made with traditional materials such as concrete or terra cotta, yet it maintains a traditional and classic look. Thermo-Lite will not crack, chip, or fade in extreme heat or cold and will protect fragile plants from extreme temperatures, as well. Designed with a grape motif, this planter comes in a terra cotta color and has a diameter of about 16 inches and a height of 13 inches. --Jonathon Tudor ... Read more

    Editorial Review

With the Black & Decker Leaf Hog, you can clean up both the deck and the lawn with one reasonably priced and easy-to-maintain machine. This blower/vac is electric, so it requires an extension cord and an electric outlet to run, but there's nothing else to set up or maintain. The 12 amp motor has considerable power for its size, more than enough to clear driveways or decks or blow off sections of lawn. At just over 7 pounds, the Leaf Hog is light enough to use for long periods of time, and it's also quiet enough to use at any time of day. Switching from blowing to vacuuming is a snap--literally. The correct button took us a moment to find, but once you've located it, you simply depress it and remove the blowing unit, then attach the vacuum extension in its place. The extension has a bag for mulch, which attaches with a small clasp. When vacuuming, the unit mulches by sucking leaves through the fan assembly. Though this model, with its patented Vortex anticlog vacuum system, does a better job of remaining unclogged than most, you still need to be careful to avoid rocks and sticks. It also has a variable-speed control that lets you choose between 150 and 200 mph blower speed. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Black & Decker does it again!
Whilst at a construction trade show I overheard two B & D reps talking. One said "the construction grade tools are well designed, but the consumer drills, for example are designed for a twelve hourlife". This is not unrealistic for a weekend warrior who might use the drill once or twice a year, drilling the occasional holes.

The Leaf Hog is apparently in the same category, based on sterling initial reviews, I put my doubts aside and bought one. With about 35 hours of use, it has quit.

    Buyer beware!

We have had ourleaf hog for a little over a year. After using it for three times the off button stopped working! the only way to turn it off was pulling the plug. Also the on / off button is labelled so poorly that when the unit is dusty one can not tell the difference between the on/off button and the button that takes of the housing covering the impeller. After my husband cut his leg with the rotating impeller and not able to turn off the unit we stopped using this horrilbe product.I just looked to see if it has been recalled.Watch out people! ... Black & Decker CMM1000 19" Cordless Mulching/Rear Bag Lawn Mower
    Tools & Hardware
    list price: $743.95
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

While mowing the lawn may never be considered a recreational activity, this rear bag mower from Black & Decker makes the chore as close to fun as it will ever get. With its 24-volt battery, which delivers 5-horsepower gas equivalent at peak torque, this cordless electric mower represents the top of Black & Decker's line of lawn mowing products. During our field tests, this orange powerhouse stood out above other mowers for ease of use and performance. Its versatile operation allowed us to mulch, bag, or expel the debris from its 19-inch cutting path. Switching between the three methods was as easy as removing the catch bag and the mulch plug--easily performed tasks when the mower is not running.

The most obvious difference between the new generation of electric mowers and the heavier gas-powered mowers of yore is the start-up. The ease with which this mower starts is almost stupefying. Simply pull and hold the thin handle lever, then pull the ignition lever, and presto!--the engine is running. To minimize safety risks to young children, a removable safety key must be inserted prior to starting the mower.

Once started, this mower runs like a dream and is much quieter than older gas-powered models. In addition to the lack of noise, vibrations were also dampened by the cushioned handgrips, a feature that makes mowing a much more comfortable experience. Another innovation is the method by which the mower is raised and lowered. Where once it was necessary to adjust each wheel individually, the height of the mowing platform is now controlled by a single squeeze of a single lever, which allows for seven positions from 1-1/2 to 3-1/2 inches. While this mower is much lighter than a gas mower, we did find that this Black & Decker cordless model, weighing in at 76 pounds, is heavier than its corded relatives.

The only disadvantage this machine seems to have is in the power department. While there were no serious problems during our field test, it was necessary to slow down or go back over thicker sections of grass in order to make a completely clean cut. This cordless model also requires a substantial charging time when first out of the box: the manufacturer suggests at least a 16-hour period initially in order to get peak performance and maximum run time. According to Black & Decker, the battery will be 70% energized with four hours of charging. When fully juiced, this mower can be expected to cut between 1/2 and 1/3 of an acre per charge. Though the charge is one aspect that needs to be considered when deciding whether to purchase a corded or a rechargeable mower, we found the added maneuverability of the cordless over the corded model far outweighs the inconvenience of charge times.

When you've finished mowing, the handles fold back, making it easier to store this mower in a tight garage or shed. It comes with a 30-day no-risk satisfaction guarantee and a manufacturer's full two-year warranty. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

A 4-cycle, 26cc variable speed engine powers this dynamo around your borders, trees, and against foundations. Ryobi’s eliminated the need to mix messy oil and gas with this unit, which runs on straight gas, saving you time and trouble. It’s fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly and runs quieter than its 2-stroke competition. Easy starts are assured, too, because of a primer bulb. The bump feed advances more line whenever you need it, and the SpeedSpool Line Replacement lets you put in a new line without taking the head apart--a great idea. In hand, it’s well-balanced, relatively light, and very comfortable, thanks to the D-shaped handle and its ergonomic soft grip. If it were only a trimmer, it would be a great purchase, but add to it the capability to attach a range of different heads, and you’ve got a highly versatile, multi-purpose yard tool. The Trimmer Plus attachments (sold separately) turn the trimmer into an edger, hedge trimmer, tree pruner, leaf blower/vac, garden cultivator, and snow thrower. The attachments connect in a second with a solid "click," and you’re off on a new task. It’s an ingenious system that will bring professional-type lawn tools to the average homeowner. 3-0 out of 5 stars Good for the price, but ONE BIG PROBLEM
I've had the trimmer, the tiller, edging and tree attachments for about 2 summers now. Overall, for the money, it is a good trimmer. The edger works decently, although I've only used it once. I use the tree trimmer each fall. I have used the tiller quite a bit as I have to prep one 70 sq. ft. veggie garden and about 200 sq. ft. of flower beds each year. I use it to trim every week or more, after each mowing of a 1/2 acre lawn.

The trimmer itself is good and runs nicely, its great not to have to mix gas and my wife likes it as its not as smoky and noisy. However, she wont use it because it is pretty heavy. I highly recommend getting a strap, and if I were to do this all over again, I'd get a straight shaft trimmer.

Now for the problem. My very first time out with the tiller, the cable inside became stuck in the shaft and I couldn't get the tiller attachment off until I resorted to 2 sets of vise grips and more than a little force. Turns out the cable from the attachments is just a spring type cable with a square end. this fits into a pot metal type coupler that is on the end of another spring wound cable from the motor. This is all at the break, roughly halfway on the shaft. What happened is that due to the torque of the tiller, the cable end "oblonged" instead of staying square inside the coupler. This bound the cable inside the coupler and they had to be forceably separated.

After this episode, the cable and the coupler never fit properly and every time I put the tiller or edger on, it had to be forced apart. This has also stretched the cable a little and fitting together is a dicey chore. I ended up having to buy ANOTHER trimmer and I just leave one in the tiller now. The other I use as a trimmer and with the lighter attachments. I only did this because I had the significant investment in the attachments and getting another trimmer was less expensive than getting rid of this and starting over. But I sure thought about it.

So you can see, WHAT'S THE SENSE of having these when I could/should have just bought separate units to begin with. I'd be very interested to find out if other owners have had the same trouble. Oh, by the way in case you are wondering, I carefully turned over the soil by shovel in all of these beds and never used the tiller for "fresh ground" tilling. I'm smarter than that and I borrow my brothers Troy-Built when I need to go to town from scratch. This tiller is only used to freshen a spring bed and mix in additives, and then only after a shovel turnover.

All in all, I'm pretty disappointed. I had a Ryobu saw years ago that I wasn't impressed with either. I get the sense that Ryobi doesn't spend much on engineering and quality, as in they skimp a bit on the level. I'd give this one star, but the trimmer is decent, the tiller works well now that its permanent, and the other attachments do the job. The idea was great, the execution needs a rethink, especially in coupler design.

1-0 out of 5 stars Arrived Broken
Can you beleive it? I ordered this thinking it would be a great addition to my outdoor assault weapons which I use to keep my yard from taking over the house. Things grow fast in the my gulch.

Well, I take it out of the big Amazon box. It's already busted! The lid for the air intake snaps onto the intake itself. So I figure, "OK, I guess I gotta call up Amazon." Well, this thing runs on gas, so I can't return it to Amazon. Instead they want
me to contact Ryobi. Well, that is turning out to be impossible.

The phone number given by the Ryobi site for their outdoor products doesn't get picked up. Instead, a recording tells you
thatdue to high volume, your call won't be answered. Have a nice day!

So I got it in the backside, for the first time, from good old Amazon. Thanks, Amazon. 'preciate it.

Their should be a RED tag telling you to add oil first before trying to start.

5-0 out of 5 stars great pruners for bushes
I like these a lot -- I bought them last May to cut back our lilac and forsythia bushes which hadn't been pruned in several years. The shears cut easily through both thick and thin stems, you can even cut several thin branches at once. I've since used them on average of once a week to cut and trim back tree branches and saplings as well as roses and other bushes. Fwiw, they do tend to do better on green or growing wood than on dead branches. As another reviewer noted, the foam handle covers can slide off but I glued mine back on and haven't had any problems since. The blades are easy to keep clean and the lock keeps them locked even if you say, toss them on the grass or a chair. Note, these aren't for pruning large tree branches or tough, thick bushes but they're great for basic pruning.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not The FISKARS You Expect
Not what I expected...FISKARS are supposed to be high quality stainlessmade in Finland. These are ordinary steel, ordinary pruners, made in theUSA for Fiskars. I returned them. Fiskars Garden Shears Model 9637 are thereal thing. But now that these pruners are reduced in price, as long asyou know what you are getting, they aren't a bad buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for Light Duty Cutting
These work fine on green wood up to 1/2" in diameter, but anything larger needs more leverage. The lock is easy to use and very accessable, making one hand operations a breeze. The best thing about these is thatthey'll fit in your back pocket and stay locked.I also have a ratcheting, anvil style clipper that works much better on slightly larger twigs withmuch less effort. ... Editorial Review

Gardena's Aquazoom oscillating sprinkler features triple option controls: width adjusts from 13 to 56 feet, range adjusts from 23 to 60 feet, and water flow can be changed from low to high pressure. The maximum coverage area is 3,760 square feet. The sprinkler has 18 nozzles and a special needle for nozzle cleaning, as well as a metal filter to protect the sprinkler from dirt. Gardena has fitted the sprinkler with dirt-insensitive turbo-drive gears for even water distribution. One thing to keep in mind with any oscillating sprinkler is that its high-arcing spray can lead to high levels of evaporation and water loss due to wind. Replacement policy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great sprinkler!
I have used mine now for quite awhile. It is so nice to be able to choose the pattern you want. The neighbors' basketball court is next to my fence and I used to soak it.No more!Highly recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars A high quality sprinkler
This sprinkler covers a fairly large area, is easily adjusted for width and range, and is well built. I've used one for a few seasons, and am ordering another. It does not leak, and has never clogged. It also has a very stable sled base.

It's especially useful for watering long, narrow side lots, or a row of planting beds. It's about two or three times the price of most oscillating sprinklers you'll find at the home center, but you get what you pay for. Gardena makes very high quality sprinklers.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best sprinkler ever made
This is the best sprinkler made. I'm going to buyone of these for each of our family members for Christmas. They will enjoying using this product and it's dependable, too. It is the best. Thank You, VP ... Read more
