5-0 out of 5 stars Great accessory!
The amount of time this thing saves is invaluable! Clamps tight, and has three settings for grip. It's a straightforward, non-technically challenging accessory every woodworker should have. I just ordered the 24" unit as well for smaller projects. Works well with a circular and a jig saw. Thank goodness for Amazon, as I have not seen these elsewhere. Great stuff.

4-0 out of 5 stars Performance on par with price.
I purchased this device a while back mainly to use as a straight edge tool guide and I have found that it performs well for this purpose.Clamping it square to the table takes a bit of fussing, but once it is square and locked down there are no worries of slippage or flexing, even under significant pressure.Using a handheld circular saw riding against this tool guide, I get an arrow straight cut every time.I chose the 50" tool so I could use it to cross cut plywood in this manner.Since tablesaws are exceptionally more powerful and versatile than handheld circular sawqs, I do not like the results as well as running a panel through a tablesaw with a big outfeed table. However, if that is not possible due to budget or space constraints this is a valuable tool to have around.I would feel better about the value of this tool if it cost a bit less, but it does provide you with increased cutting options for a lot less than a bigger saw or outfeed table would cost.

5-0 out of 5 stars These clamps are tops, and pressure is adjustable
When I use these clamps, I adjust the pressure by how snugly I fit the foot of the clamp. If I have thicker material and want to clamp real tight, I slide the foot up tight against the edge, and then push down the lever. If I want a slightly lighter clamping pressure, then I leave a hair gap offset, before clamping it down.
If I had to get critical of working with these, I would say two things. 1) You have to be working on a relatively flat surface underneath. If you are on two horses, and you have a sheet of plywood, it tends to bow. Then the clamp can not create a flat workedge. Wherever it is low, their is a valley, or a loss of the clamp edge flat on the material. This is to be expected, of course, and is not a problem, if you have a supporting sheet, or a couple of two by's on top of the horses. 2) In order to create a square cut (90 degrees) you need to use a carpentars square to line it up. (As compared to a table saw, with large tables, which is preconfigured to be square.) Be that as it may, you can't beat these for giving you a great tool guide for lots of different purposes. These make a very good, far reaching clamp. It will not creep a setting, if you are using it for an overnight glue up.
Their lightweight, yet strong. If your careful, you can keep your saw tight against the edge. For a heftier version, check out Tru-Grips pro series. They are over 5 inches wide, and have t-tracks, and a special indentation to accomodate their router base, circular saw base, and stop. That creates error free straight lines out on the job. The come in 2, 4, and 8 foot sizes. All of them are a few inches larger than their stated size. For example the 4 foot, will handle workpieces up to 54 inches.
I highly recommend Tru-Grip products, both for their usability, engineering, and quality build. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensable
I built a shed recently with a wide door to accomodate big tools.I made this door out of 2x6 tongue-and-groove decking boards, which I needed to clamp together to attach 2x4 bracing. So a pair of "Pony" clamp fixtures and a couple lengths of black pipe was just the ticket -- or almost. The decking boards needed a bit of persuasion to get all 9 planks together, and I didn't want to gouge the nice oak. Some cedar shims against the clamp pads promptly crumpled when I tightened the clamps. So I left the door until the next weekend and ordered these clamp pads.

Now I have a nice shed with a sturdy, attractive door on it.And no clamp marks!

    Strongly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars They work!
There is not much criteria one could comment on clamp pads.I have installed these on all my Jorgenson I-Bar clamps, and they (1) are non-marring and, (2) stay on the clamps very well. What more can one ask for?

    5-0 out of 5 stars Hassle-free Clamping
Purchased several sets for my extensive clamp collection, and have been very satisified. These pads are tough, and will not stick to the work. At the same time, they eliminate slippage and twisting as the clamp is being tightened. In addition, they fit the less costly Pittsburg brand pipe clamps like a glove. I have found that these clamps are every bit as good as the Jorgensen clamp for about 1/3 the price! These pads make them even better. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Godzilla, But A Strong Clamp
For maximum clamping power, the ¾" pipe clamp is the way to go.If your needs are not as demanding, then then this is the clamp for you.

The crank style handle worked very smooth and has adequate travel. The adjustment with the handle was such that either light or heavy pressure could be applied with ease. The clamps can also be set horizontally on a flat surface allowing you to edge glue pieces for tabletops very easily. The beauty of this style clamp is the ability to change clamping length needs quickly. One clamp with multiple lengths of threaded steel1 ½" pipe gives you endless capabilities.

While the steel bar type clamps does have their niche for lighter task (drawer construction, carcasses assembly, etc) and the ¾" pipe clamps handle you most demanding jobs, these clamps could be considered a hybrid (in capacity rating) of the two.For my money though, its worth a little extra in investing in the ¾" model as oppose to this one.But then again, why not have both? You can never have enough clamps!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars A good clamp - with limitations.
These clamps are the little cousin of Pony's great 3/4" pipe clamps. While the 1/2" clamps work fine within their limits, they do havelimits.Applying a lot of pressure will flex a 1/2" pipe, possiblyleading to an out of square joint.I also do not think that the clamptightening mechanism is as well made as on the 3/4" clamps, but it isstill pretty good.I have several of these clamps and while I think theyare a good value for the money, I would suggest spending a few more dollarsfor the 3/4" clamps.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best pipe clamp I've tried
I've tried three or four different company's.All the different clamps hold very good but this one is, by far, the easiest to tighten, loosen and adjust! It's the only pipe clamp I'll buy! ... Read more

    Editorial Review

The best ideas are often the simplest, which explains why Jorgenson is well known among woodworkers as the maker of some of the best clamps available, and their 3/4-inch steel bar clamp is no exception. No shop can have too many of these. They offer a basic, reliable design--featuring a crank handle, no holes, no rivets, and no notches--that leaves little room for improvement. These clamps are great for a huge variety of jobs, can be used on any length of pipe your task requires, and can be relied on to keep their grip without loosening up or slipping. Removing the clamps when the job is done is quick and easy every time. Sure, some may say that a clamp is a clamp, and to some extent that's true. But with so many brands on the market, there's a reason it's so hard to find a shop that's not full of Jorgenson clamps. If you're looking for reliable clamps at a price that allows you to buy as many as you need, Jorgensen clamps are tough to beat. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good product, but get some clamp pads, too
I built a shed recently, making the door from tongue-and-groove decking boards. Before I could attach the 2x4 braces I needed to clamp the tongue-and-groove planks together. To fit big tools in the shed this door is 3-1/2' wide, so I needed a couple of big clamps. Two of these Jorgensen fixtures, plus a pair of 5' black pipes, did the trick quite nicely.

    A few useful tidbits:

    - The threaded black pipe recommended for use with these clamps comes with black grease to lubricate and deter corrosion.Clean this off before attaching the clamps so you won't mess up your wood.

    - I strongly recommend getting a set of rubber clamp pads when you order your clamp fixtures. You only need one set for two fixtures.Don't gouge up your wood.

    - The screw clamp fits into the orange sliding flat surface with a steel pin.One of mine came out, and I had to go get a hammer to re-assemble the clamp.I deducted one star for this, but it was just annoying rather than a fatal flaw.

    - Black pipe typically comes in sizes from 1' to 5'.Shop for the pipe before buying the clamp fixtures if you need more than 5'.The fixtures take up a good half foot themselves, so 4' pipe wouldn't have worked with my 3-1/2' door.

Bottom line: an essential tool if you're trying to build something big.Recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Woodshop Standard
These versatile clamps are simple, strong, and a cost effective clamping solution.I recomend using black iron pipe as it is softer than galvanized and therefore the clamp grabs it better. Most stores that sell black pipe will cut and thread it for free.Have them thread both ends and use a cap from a pop bottle to cover the unused end.You can the use cheap pipe unions to join the two pipes to make a longer clamp.

Why buy Pony Brand? They are superior to their asian knockoffs in EVERY WAY.Pony pipe clamps are always concentric (nearly every asian made clamp I've owned are eccentric and do not operate smoothly and require serious grinding to make them usable).

The pony'sscrew is larger in diameter and the threads are beefier.I have bent some asian clamps thread post but never a Pony's.

When you are gluing up a panel and trying to beat titbond's tack time and suddenly your Chinese clamp binds up on you you will say to yourself NEXT TIME ITs GOING TO BE PONY!

This is one of the last of the quality "MADE IN THE USA" tools that hopefully will never change.

Oh - one more thing - I've seen these ebay used for what Amazon is selling new ones for!

    4-0 out of 5 stars 2nd best
Very good, sturdy clamps. I only rated them 4 stars because Rocklers surefoot is a much better design with equal the quality. Use galvanized pipe, same price & it won't rust or stain your work. Also for some homebrewed clamp pads take some scrap 3/4" fir plywood, it's relatively soft & doesn't split, cut it into roughly 2" x 3 1/2" pieces. Then drill a 1 1/8" hole towards one end & paint it with polyuerathane. Slip it over the pipe & screw it to the clamp faces from behind with #6 x 3/4" sheet metal screws. You'll wind up with decent clamp pads that won't stick to glue or come off of the clamp. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Works great but
clean up is the only problem I've had with this product. This glue kit was well thought out. With a vast array of attachments, I can't imagine any glue up situation a woodworker couldn't conquer. But beware, if you get pulled away from a project or forget to clean out the attachments be prepared to to spend some quality time with a paper clip. If your shop doesn't have running water, like mine, it can be a real challenge. Best of luck.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a nice kit, great for the money
I just used this kit for the first time. I was gluing some melamine sheets with Roo Glue (specially made for melamine) The set up time was 15 minutes, so I had a lot of surface area to cover in short order. This glue kit, using the glue roller did a nice job. It enabled me to cover a lot of surface area quickly. The amount of glue that is released is based on how much you squeeze the container. You can easily see the flow, so guesstimating is pretty easy.
My only dilemma is when doing biscuits and glue edge joinery; it is necessary to switch heads. When you are dealing with glue that is sure to get messy. So my quest is to find a dedicated biscuit joining glue bottle. That way I can use both at the same time without making head changes.
I think this kit is a great idea. It might be all plastic, but is ideally suited for the purpose. Highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great, but not perfect
This has proved to be a useful tool, but I find it a little lacking when gluing up biscuits, which is why I bought it.I still find myself using the glue straight from the bottle at times, which attests to its usefulness. ... Read more

The push stick and push block are great products. The featherboard, however, is a little iffy.

The plastic feet used to secure the device are a little large for the cutout and have to be worked into it.Once there, it does a good job of holding your wood, although adjusting it is a bit clumsy.

Overall, it is an OK buy for the money, but you could make your own quite easily.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless

1-0 out of 5 stars Another gift gone bad....
For birthdays and other holidays my Sweetheart, kids and grandkids usually buy me woodworking tools. Even though I usually provide them with a list, occasionally things go bad.
This jig is one of them. One of the legs was bent out of the box, took some creative straitening methods to get it to work at all. Finally got it assembled and working, sort of. This thing is too flimsy to be of any serious use. Doesn't have enough mass to use it on large leg sections. I'm afraid the push tab will bend. Adjusting it by eye is not a big deal, but the flimsy lock mechnism does not instill confidence in a repeatable cut. The whole thing flex's when you push the piece thru the saw. After wasting a couple hours and a few pieces of scrap wood, I decided this jig should go back. Unfortutely it was purchased at HD, who wouldn't take it back, since it had been assembled and used. So on my way out the store, I tossed it in their dumpster. I'm going to make my own out of some hardwood and brass fittings. I know I can make something a lot more useful than this. Can't recommend this jig, except as a model of what not to do.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very Poor Design/Quality
I have owned this jig for a while and wish I had spent the money on making my own jig from the get-go.It is very inaccurate and hard to adjust.Make your own.

1-0 out of 5 stars I had owned this product
I found this jig to be [poor quality], flimsy and inaccurate. It is hard to set up and flexes easily making accurate tapers impossible. Take my advise and spend a little more money for a good one or build one yourself. I threw it away. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good set...as far as they go
I couldn't tell from the picture but I had hoped the storage block was one of those 1x2x3 blocks, but it's not. Too bad. One of my other sets (aluminum) has this feature, its real handy.
This is a nice set, had to clean em up a little, like the other reviewer, but no big deal. I use em for setups on the router and table saw, makes life so much easier. Combined with larger blocks, you can set fences exactly where ya want em every time.
Rated this four stars because of the lack of the 1-2-3 block. Recommend this set as a second set, because of that shortcoming.

5-0 out of 5 stars Puts an end to blade wobble
I am currently using this on my table saw. It lays up against the side of your blade, and helps to keep it true. Once in awhile I need to make a deeper cut, and it can get in the way for those cuts. I made some passes 2 1/2" deep and the edge of the Forrest stiffner stopped the piece. It is the first time I have had a problem with that.
Initially I installed this stiffner on a Sears Radial Arm saw because I was getting a good deal of wobble with it. Oddly enough, when I tried mounting a blade, then testing the trueness, only to loosen the nut, spin the blade slightly to a new seat, then retighten, and after a few tries, I hit it right, and the wobble disappeared. So whenever I replace a blade on that saw, I tweak it until it is right. Oddly enough, it runs so true when I do that, that I moved the Forrest over to the table saw.
I mated this stiffner up to the Forrest Woodworker II on my table saw, and I am getting cuts so smooth, you don't even have to sand the edge. It is finish quality perfectly smooth. (The Incra TSIII-32 table saw fence helps, giving me a true exact paralell line with the blade.)
So get the stiffner, make sure your fence is perfectly true, and you can forget about having to make your cuts a little bit oversized and having to finish up the edge on the jointer.
Highly recommended. The Forrest name is synonymous with the best in quality.

4-0 out of 5 stars Stiffens up an already great blade
I use the stiffener with my thin kerf Forest II blade and it does take some of the "wobble" out.Well worth the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars A worthy addition to a great blade
I was skeptical of any added benefit that a stabilizer would add to my Woodworker II blade - it cuts great by itself.I bought the stiffener as an "insurance policy" - similar to another reviewer.

I immediately noticed a difference - a ring that the blade made when I used a zero tolerance insert dissapeared when I added the stiffener.Clearly some vibration was removed and some incidental contact with the insert was prevented. It it too early to say if this will clearly make a difference in a ripped board, but any reduced vibration is a good thing in my book.

I gave this 4 stars only due to the price - I don't see a justification for the price.I think this could be offered less expensively or offered (at a discount) with the blade in a package. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not setting any records with this one
I have to agree with the other reviewer with regards to the
strength and stability of this stand. The biggest drawback
is that the tubes are round and there is just a single bolt
that you tighten against the interior tube. The design could
be improved by making the tubes square in cross-section (thus
eliminating the tendency to twist as you tighten the bolt) and/or
improving the height adjustment mechanism with something that
grabs the tube from both sides (instead of just jamming a bolt
up against one side). Also, the height adjustment bolt does
scratch the pretty blue paint.I just picked up a cheaper version
of this type of stand at Loews and it has square tubes.Even
though its height adjustment mechanism also has some problems, it
was considerably less expensive and therefore preferable. So
save your money and get a cheaper stand. This isn't as good
as Record's vices (I'm assuming this is the same company...?).

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the best quality
This stand uses a simple knob attached to a bolt that jams into the side of the tube. The bolt strips off the paint every time you use it. Plus there is a tendency for the tube to rotate when you set it. Further, I don't get a feeling of great strength with this mechanism. I would only recommend this stand if you want to set it at one height and leave it there for the life of the stand.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Essential For The One Man Shop
Being alone in my shop 98% of the time, the Record roller stand is an essential extra hand I need.I use the stand(s) to support long pieces of material while using my RAS, as a feed extension for my planer and table saw and sometimes just as an extra support while sanding long or awkward pieces. The use of one these units also add greater degree of personnel safety to any cutting operation dealing with long material. It also allow for cuts to be made more accurately.

The unit is constructed simply but, as with most Record products, it is constructed solidly. The roller is very smooth and rolls with little effort. The adjustable height via the thumbscrew works fine. The unit's base and roller are wide enough to prevent tipping even at full extension. The bonus of folding up and away allows the unit to be tucked neatly into a corner or hung on the wall. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars do your self a favor and buy/build a router table
I've used this machine on several occasions at the shop where I work.Delta has many great products in its stable, but this is not one of them.First off, the machine is way too light.a router/shaper (...) should be heavy in order to reduce vibration.Secondly, the top is cast aluminum.Good Lord, and with those horrible grooves. And my final point (though I could go on ad infinitum), the table is too small.

3-0 out of 5 stars A deal for the money
Overall the item performs well.I use it to cut styles, rails and raised panels for cabinet doors. This model includes a dust shroud for chip pickup by a collector which is helpful when using on curves and other applications.Only drawback:When adusting the the the cutter head height I have to estimate additional travel of the head when the cutterhead lock is applied.Overall it is a good deal for the money espectially if you're on a budget or novice wood worker. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Nota complete system
I bought this system and installed it in my shop.I found at compleation that there was no way to hook it up to a 2 1/2in vacume unless you use one of the gates as an adaptor. It then becomes a 5 drop system.
Shop Vac has cleverly designed the system in a non standard size so you can not use PVC pipe fittings with it and believe me I've tried.
I know this system has been around for sometime and can't believe they haven't included a simple adaptor. I have emailed customer service about this and to this date no reply.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works well...for the money
First let me say I agree with the reviewer who said that Shop Vac's customer service is excellent, they go the extra mile.
I installed this system a couple years ago, use it with a Shop Vac 4.5 hanging vacuum (see seperate review). The components are well made and fit together tightly, no glue needed, and the kit includes most everything you will need to set up for multiple applications, and it doesnt take up a whole lot of space. It does an adequate job of pulling the dust and chips from my miter saw, small joiner, table saw and drill press. It does clog occasionally, but its easy to clean out clog's because you can see em, and since the pipes and connectors are not glued you can disassemble the glogged section and blow it out. The blast gates are a must as this system will only handle one tool at a time, if you have more than one gate open, suction is heavily reduced.
I know...this should be a no-brainer, but it is easy to forget as you move from one tool to the other. I have a four inch chip collector also and use it for the planer, large joiner and bandsaw. I intend to "pipe" my shop this winter so that I can use the 4" system on all the tools, except the miter saw and bench joiner. These I will leave on the smaller system as it is more suited for their applications.
This is a good system for the money and for a small shop. It's range is limited, but if you use it for what it was designed for it will do a good job.

    5-0 out of 5 stars 2" system
This is probably a good system if you have a 2" dust collector or shop vac. However, the accessories that are suggested for this like a 4" - 2 1/2 adapter doesn't work.Nowhere does this give the size of this system. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Freud's 6-inch professional dado set delivers a very smooth flat-bottomed groove. This stack, when used on table and radial-arm saws, cuts slots, grooves, dadoes, and rabbets in hardwood, softwood, or plywood with the same high level of finish quality. The blades are resharpenable. They've also been laser-cut and sport carbide tips. In addition, this stack has a feature that limits the amount of bite a tooth can take, reducing the risk of kickback--for this reason, in fact, Freud suggests this set for underpowered saws. We tested this stack along with Freud's 8-inch stack on our 3-horsepower Powermatic model 66 (plenty of power) and found the results satisfying: smooth, with very minimal splintering. Shims are also included in this set to help you microadjust your width. This stack is a great tool for the home hobbyist who prefers not to spend a lot of money but still wants quality results. --Dori Anvinson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Freud is top shelf in my book
Excellent tool with superb craftsmanship.Freud is top quality in my book.

3-0 out of 5 stars I recommend paying extra for better
I used to do all of my ratteting and dado cutting with various size straight/rabbet router bits and a homemade jig/guide fence system.I figured I'd bite the bullet and buy a dado blade. After doing some research and getting over the sticker shock of the average $200-$250 price range for most dado sets, I figured that I go for the SD208 for only $90.I figured that since it is from Freud, it can't be all that bad, no matter how much cheaper it is than the other models.Overall, I think the SD208 is a good buy COMPARED to all of the other dado sets and their prices of 2-3 times more than the SD208.More specifically, here are my thoughts:

    POSITIVE:

    1) The storage/carrying case is great.Durable plastic with an arbor-like post to mount the blades on.

2)Price.As I said, this blade is a comparatively good deal compared to other sets in the $200-$250 price range.

3)Shims are included. From what I've been told, some sets don't include shims.I can't verify that, but this set does indeed include shims.I believe there are 5-7 differenly sized shims.

    NEGATIVES

1)My biggest gripe with this set is that the bottom of the cuts are far from being flat.Whether using the outerblades by themselves, or using them with different configurations of chippers, each cut bottom has multiple ridges/blade marks.

2)Shims aren't size labeled.Freud gives a great little chart showing what size chippers and shims are needed for differentcuts. However, the shims aren't labeled at all. They are merely blank circular cuts of metal. However, as any woodworker knows, you should always run your own test cuts for any job...so I'm in no way livid with Freud. It would just be a little nicety if they could label the shims.

As I said, I think the SD208 set is comparatively a great blade for its price, when viewd against other sets. However, I would recommend not skimping on price and upgraded to one of the higher-end Freuds or a Forrest set.

3-0 out of 5 stars Try to get it sharpened
I run a small woodworking shop and I purchased the Dial-A-Width Dado.I think it is a great dado, but it has a -12 degree grind on it.Every sharpening shop in Denver cannot sharpen it without buying an expensive computer program for their machines and they will not buy it unless they can make enough off the sharpening to pay for it.I called Freud about having them sharpen it and they said they are not in the sharpening business.Buyer beware. ... Editorial Review

Freud's 8-inch Super Dado set produces some of the smoothest square-bottom grooves and rabbets possible. Stacked dado sets like this one are more accurate and reliable than wobble dados, which leave a rounded bottom in the groove and can cause splintering and chipping. Freud's Super Dado set is especially good at producing smooth, chip-free results in plywoods and veneers. It features Freud's unique kickback-reducing design for safe dadoing even when used in a radial-arm saw. The set includes two outside blades, six four-wing chippers, and a set of shims, and it stores in a handy protective case. It adjusts in 1/32-inch increments, and even finer increments using the included shims. This Freud set is among the best-manufactured and well-designed dado sets available. --Brian Trinen ... Very sharp and long living blade!
    Cut woods, trees and heads(animals)!

5-0 out of 5 stars There's a reason that this blade averages 5 stars
There's nothing out there like this blade.Don't get me wrong, Freud, Old Ham, etc., make good blades, it's just that this one is exceptional.I've also bought their chopsaw blade and just like the WoodWorker II, it's fantastic!Worth every penny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Forrest saw blades
I have several Forrest blade products, including the Woodworker I and II, (10 inch) and the 12" chopmaster, along with their Dado set (8 inch), and their blade dampener. The blades ALL are the best I have ever owned, and have replaced such blades as the Freud 40 tooth combination and Freud 80 tooth Teflon coated blade I used to use for super smooth cuts. The Woodworker blades in the table saw and the radial arm saw both give cuts as good as the best Freud blades while being easier to use. The table saw blade allows for a faster feed rate with less burning, and the Radial arm saw blade is safer to use because it does not try to grab and walk through the wood. The 12 inch blade on my Dewalt sliding compound miter saw is a dream. I can cut slivers off of oak that you can almost read through and are glass smooth, and the saw is completely controllable. The quality of cut, longevity of the cutting edge (haven't sharpened any of the blades in 15 years of light to moderate use) and ease of machining make these blades well worth much more than they cost. The Dado head, while expensive, is unequalled for cutting absolutely smooth flat-bottomed dadoes and rabbets (adjustable wobble dados are quick and cheap, but the results are not nearly good enough for fine furniture work.) ... Editorial Review

This Porter-Cable brad nailer and compressor kit is a smart starter set that will have you up and running in just a few minutes. The kit includes an 18-gauge brad nailer; a 2-horsepower, 6-gallon, oil-free pancake compressor; 25 feet of 300 psi air hose; male and female couplers; Teflon tape; oil for the nailer; and 1,000 brad nails. The brad nailer is a compact, no-nonsense unit that might not be as stout as other (more expensive) nailers, but it's reliable and does its job well. It shoots standard brads from 5/8 to 1-1/4 inches long, and includes a sequential fire trigger, a safety that's located behind the driver guide for driving brads in tight spaces, easy-to-use depth adjustment, a directional exhaust port, a removable rubber nose, and a rugged plastic carrying case. The compressor is easy to transport, but still offers plenty of capacity. It produces 135 psi and has a 6-gallon capacity, enough to support heavy use of brad and finish nailers or moderate use of framing nailers. This is an oil-free unit, and its advanced Teflon coating doesn't require maintenance--a big plus on the convenience scale. The compressor's 120-volt universal motor starts easily in cold weather and draws only 10 amps--so you won't have to worry about tripping breakers inside residential homes--and you can use it with an extension cord. It also includes a high-flow regulator and an easy-to-read air pressure gauge. Overall, this combination kit offers two solid pieces of equipment at a very competitive price. It's a great way to get into air-powered tools. --Jonathon Tudor ... Read more

    Porter-Cable CFFN250S 2-1/2" 16 Gauge Finish Nailer/Compressor Combo Pack
Average Customer Review: 5.0 out of 5 stars
    Tools & Hardware
    list price: $590.00

    Editorial Review

Though Porter-Cable's compressor/nailer combo includes everything you need to get started--finish nailer, compressor, 25-foot/300 psi air hose (with ferrules on both ends), fittings, Teflon joint tape, finish nails, oil, wrenches, safety glasses, and manual--it's by no means a starter kit. These are excellent, top-quality tools: first-time buyers can't go wrong, and longtime professionals will like the value. The 16-gauge finish nailer packs plenty of power (oak trim? no problem--better yet, no predrilling, hammering, and setting) and shoots a wide range of nails from 3/4 to 2-1/2 inches that handle everything from crown molding installation to building fine furniture. The nailer also has all the performance features we like: easy top loading, an onboard depth adjustment that lets you adjust the countersink without fiddling with the compressor, an easy-release side hatch on the nosepiece for clearing jams, and an adjustable exhaust port that lets you direct the backfire where you want it.

The 2-horsepower compressor, with its 6-gallon tank, has plenty of reserve capacity so it doesn't cycle as often as other compressors. Plus, its oil-free design means less maintenance. The lightweight compressor, though a little noisy (but only a little), is easily transported (there's a nice hand slot on top). With a maximum draw of only 10 amps, this compressor is also much less likely to trip a breaker than other, higher-amp compressors, which saves you from having to tramp back and forth to the breaker box. What else? There's also a carrying case for the nailer: no-nonsense and plastic, but certainly protective. Hands down, though, the real kicker here is the savings--compared to what you'd spend buying everything in this package item by item, it's pretty hard to resist. --Jon Groebner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A nice tidy package!
I'm glad I didn't buy the Porter-Cable 18 gage brad nailer kit from Home Depot.

Instead, I spent the additional $$$ at The Building Box in Mississauga, Ontario for this well-rounded kit to install our primed MDF 4-1/2" crown moulding project this Spring. This kit cost me $$$ plus 15% taxes.I guess to keep the price low, Porter-Cable outfitted this kit with their 135 psi pancake compressor, rather than their 150 psi compressor which is sold with their 18 gage brad nailer kit.

    The positives of the kit are;

1)The 17 piece accessory kit with the pistol grip blower,
2)The gun has a balanced and quality feel,
    3)Easy to load gun,
    4)Easy to clear jammed nails,
5)Shorter and more streamlined design of gun,
6)Enough power to countersink a 2-1/2" nail into red oak,
    7)Portable and reasonably light-weight compressor,
8)Very good sight line of nailing surface,
    9)Value purchase.

    The negatives of this kit are;

    1)Noisy compressor,
2)Gun does not warn user when it runs out of nails,
3)Should have provided 2-1/2" nails, rather than the 2" nails,
4)Compressor's auto on/off lever can dislodge from the switch assembly when the lever is pushed/pulled at the wrong angle,
5)Must order the free black coloured trigger separately,
6)The gun will at the odd time spall the MDF moulding surface at the nail's point of entry (which means more caulking).

Purchased [online]. The compressor is light enough to move easily, but stays in place unless the floor has some kind of gloss finish. The nailer is light-wieght, easy to hold overhead, the exhaust duct is easy to direct and the nail depth is simple and stays in place. The DeWalt guns are nicer (more substantial feeling and heavier guage nails), but a DeWalt 15g costs as much as the whole PC kit.Trigger trip point fluctuates a little, and it's pretty easy to double nail a spot if you pull too slowly. But other than that it's a wonderful tool and a great value. ...
