    Editorial Review

DeWalt's sturdy four-column planer is a great addition in any workshop--and, because it's easily portable, transition to the job site is always an option. Thanks to the largest material support table of any portable planer on the market and a tight-locking cutterhead, boards feed through effortlessly with minimal snipe. We also liked how easy it is to measure precise cuts with the turret stops (set at 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 of an inch). There's also a calibrated depth crank that adjusts 1/16 of an inch with each full rotation. Unlike other portable planers, DeWalt's provides an easy-to-read gauge of how much material each pass removes as well as the amount left over on the original board. Rather than using double-edged knives, this model takes two big M2 high-speed steel knives with single-surface cutting areas that deliver an impressive 64.1 cuts per inch. Changing knives took us a mere 10 minutes (and we were new to this design) and--better yet--they can be resharpened multiple times rather than discarded after one use. Powered by 15 amps with a no-load speed of 10,000 rpm, DeWalt's easily transported planer is a nice combination of high performance and convenience. Each planer ships with an extra set of knives, magnets, and wrenches. --Justin Paul ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If a woodchuck could chuck wood
I like this planer just fine. However I must admit that this is the only one I have ever used.I had a friend who had a maple tree fall in his yard.We went our and ripped about 40, 12" x 30" x 3" blocks with our chain saws. (without a ripping chain). The blocks were in terrible shape.I have run these through this planner and now have 40 pieces of 1" x12"x30 beautiful marbled maple.I had to run each piece through about 20- 25 times to get all the chain saw marks out.So I would guess that is about 2500 board feet of nasty rock hard maple.NO PROBLEM.This thing is like a ginsui knife,I took one of the pieces and ran it through to see how fine I could finish it, a buddy of mine needed a custom size cutting board for his kitchen cabinet.I hardly need to sand it when I was done. The one problem I had was when I bought it the screw that holds the handle on was not long enough and I stripped the hole, but it stays on with gravity just fine. I Also would like two speeds, as with most of my reviews this is my fault for not spending the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Litte Machine!
You will be hard pressed to find a planer that will do a better job than this DW733.Set up was a snap, maybe an hour to remove from the box and double check all adjustments. If you do the basics - keep knives sharp, in and out tables adjusted properly and provide support for long pieces - this machine will give you great results.Snipe is minimal to non-existant. The dust hood & my 650cfm dust collector eliminates 95% of all chips.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product
I bought this planer 10 months ago and just got around to using it.I am impressed!Set up was easy right out of the box.The planer makes super smooth cuts with no snipe.Dewalt has upgraded to a 3 knife model, but it is hard to see how they could improve on this one.The dust hood does a good job with my shop vac attached with very few chips ending up on the table.
The only negative I have found so far is the carrying handles. If you don't carry it level the planer can shift on the telescopic handles and pinch your hand. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Just let it run until the filter is DRY and it will last
If you leave the humidifer running after the tank has emptied until the filter is dry dry DRY (i.e., the humidity has dropped down), the filter will last and last.If you don't let it dry, but keep filling the tank with water, the filter gets really skanky really quickly.I learned the hard way until I read one of the reviews on this site.Have run it for over a month now with no smell.Filter is great.

I LOVE this humidifier because I can pop the parts in the dishwasher.I can get it CLEAN easily.Never found another humidifier that you can do this with.

Who cares if the humidistat works exactly? It tells me if the humidity is high or low, and that's all that matters.

It is indeed a BEAR to close the tank tightly, but we run it fine just closing it as tight as we can.Have never had a leakage problem.

Have tried many other kinds, and this does the job the best.Too bad it has been discontinued...I wanted to get one for my 87-year-old parents, since it is the easiest and best I have ever used.

    2-0 out of 5 stars It's a shame!
Hamilton beach has ruined an expellant product the `TrueAir Cool Mist Humidifier' by making the replacement filters so badly.
A big disappointment, the filter gets moldy after a month of usage making the operation very expensive.
I hope they come up with a better solution.

1-0 out of 5 stars replacement filter does not perform like original
The original filter that came with the unit worked fine and it was easily able to humidify two large rooms. This replacement filter, however, does not seem to wick water very well.It can barely keep a 17x12' room at 30% humidity with the door closed, windows shut and heat turned off.And it's in the 40s -- not even very cold out.In fact, it wicks so badly that for the water level to change in the tank I have to flip the filter every hour or so.I called Hamilton Beach but they said it wasn't their problem because the filters are manufactured by 3M.Of course, this is the only filter offered for use with this unit. ... Editorial Review

To be honest, we looked twice at the price, certain the folks at Amazon had made a mistake. But sure enough, they're right--and so is the price. Porter-Cable makes some of the best pneumatic tools in the industry, and these nailers are two prime examples. The 16-gauge is sturdy, compact, lighter and quieter than you'd expect with a grip even smaller hands can get around. Great balance, easy depth-of-drive adjustment, and a pleasure to use. Similarly, the 18-gauge is light but rugged, comfortable and maneuverable, even in awkward places or after long runs. Some other features we like: a special hardened driver blade, a sequential fire trigger, a visual reload indicator, a safety located behind the driver guide for driving brads in tight spaces and an easy-to-adjust depth guide. Both guns have directional exhausts, too. The pancake-style compressor has a six-gallon tank and easily runs both guns at the same time. It's light, portable and doesn't want much from you in terms of maintenance--it's oil-free and Teflon-coated. Some other reasons to like it: a high-flow regulator, an easy-to-read air pressure gauge, automatic thermal overload protection, an industrial-style quick-connect body in the air outlet, and a long-life motor with replaceable brushes. We can't imagine this deal will be around forever.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

    5-0 out of 5 stars It's a keeper!
Based on the good reviews from the Amazon Community, I bought this for my husband for Valentine's Day.Yes, I agree with other reviewers that the compressor is a little noisy, but they all are, and this one more than makes up for noise with its portability.(And I was able to talk him out of our big old compressor for MY shop...)The first thing he did was whip together a nice display shelf for a friend. After that he told me he REALLY wished he'd had it 2 weeks earlier when he was cussing over installing crown molding and trim around the windows.Since I'm the one who had to fill and sand nail-holes, I wish he'd had it, too.
It took a little adjusting, but he was able to get the settings just right so the nails go in perfectly flush with both nail guns.
So far he's enthusiastically built 2 beautiful kitchen drawers---and drawers were something I couldn't get him to build for years---so I'm glad I bought this for him!
I did my market research, and there was no way I could buy separate components and come anywhere near the price of this package. This is really a good deal, and (of course, since it's Porter-Cable), excellent quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny how it works like that....
I also couldn't agree more with all of the other reviewers.I got the kit for Christmas from my wife and I absolutely love it.I'm fairly new to the home improvement/carpentry game, but I am very excited to tackle some new projects (mostly putting up some molding).I have used the gun briefly so far to build a desk, and it went SO much faster than it would have otherwise.

MORE IMPORTANTLY.. I actually first came across this Amazon page because I was upset that I never received my free staple gun (mine was actually bought from Home Depot). It definitely looks as though I am not the only one.Yesterday (4/3/05) I sent a nice little email to Porter-Cable thru their website and told them that I was not alone in my hunt for the free staple gun.Wouldn't you know that about 10 minutes ago the UPS guy just showed up with it!I was blown away. They haven't even had time to respond to my email yet.So anyways, don't give up hope... I imagine they should be coming soon.I mailed my rebate away either in late December or early January, if that helps to give a time frame.

4-0 out of 5 stars You will never use a hammer again
I agree with all the other great reviews.Trust the reviews they are right on the money. You can't go wrong with this set. Also, Amazon is definitally the best price. With the $$ off, free shipping, and no sales tax, the big orange store can't compete.
The only problem is the free stapler that some of the reviews have referenced.I couldn't find any paper work for a free stapler and it doesn't look like anybody is receiving it.It looks like it was too good to be true. ... Read more

One thing that stands out is that instead of the dozens of filters, wicks etc that other companies have to fit their products. Vornado humidifiers ALL take these wicks! Making sure that the consumer gets the right ones and EASILY is a great idea! These are made in the US.
If ordering from Amazon, I do find it to be a good idea to watch the prices for this item on Amazon since they fluctuate up to $4.00 difference depending on when you look. What's up with that? If you're buying several packages at a time, that really adds up! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Humidifier and Filters I've ever found
I've been through so many humidifiers that get moldy and nasty so that you just have to throw them out. My sister spent a lot of mony on a Hunter that is supposedly clean free, but it always had mold in the standing water when I lifted the tank for refill. This Hamilton Beach is a wonder. I use it every night year round. If you follow the directions and put the parts in the dishwasher once a week and turn the filter every time you refill the tank it works like a charm. The only time I have had a filter go bad is when I go on a trip and it just gets moldy. I haven't found a way around that. But otherwise, I can use one for months without a problem. It's all in following the directions. And it helps to change the water in the tank at least every other day.I recommend this item to everyone.

2-0 out of 5 stars Hamilton Beast change often
If you can get 2 weeks out of each filter you are doing great. The water absorbs into the filter so it gets moldy. That is the nature of the design. Humidity in room never gets to the desired humidity level because the humidifier does virtually nothing. The filters are what they are, it is the humidifier itself that is poorly designed and worth about five bucks. The high setting is super loud.

5-0 out of 5 stars Humidifier Filter
A very good filter - easy to install - and lasts for a few weeks with constant use.

Be careful though - make sure you turn it over at least once a day and if you can, leave it to air dry for 2 hrs - it really extends the life of these filters.

Order a couple at once ( save yourself the shipping!!) as amazon can run out in the winter - a definite buy for the HB humidifier ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Five Plus if I could!
This is the ultimate bandsaw for the money. No pund intended. I looked at the Jet Models and compared horse-power, number of spokes per wheel, construction and cost. I looked at all the woodworking dealers in my area and you will not find a better band saw for the money. Not only that it comes with a fence and miter, extra on other models. The fence is a godsend.

The unit will take some time calibrating. Well worth the effort. I like the quick release for the blade. The cast aluminum parts concern me because you have to be careful not to over-tighten things. Get a mobel base for this unit if you plan on moving it around, it's heavy. Don't buy the one from Fox (I did and don't like it at all).

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Deal On A Bandsaw
I looked at all the options for a home woodshop bandsaw, and I think this saw is definately the best bang for the buck. Delta is selling a similarly priced model at Lowe's, and Rigid is selling a similarly priced model at HD, but I don't think there's any comparison in quality -- you just get more for your money with the Grizzly. You certainly get much better blade guides with the Grizzly, but I also think the overall construction, fit, and finish is better.

I got the 6 inch riser kit and installed it right away. Assembly was easy. The manual is well written, and is actually very useful. After assembly I checked to see if the upper and lower wheels were co-planar, and they were out by .090". Inserting a .090" thick washer behind the upper wheel quickly brought it into alignment (this is all covered very clearly in the owners manual).

The only small issue I had was with the fence. The main fence rail was a little warped, so the the fence would bind up when sliding along the rail. Grizzly customer service was pleasant, helpful, and had a new part on my doorstep in a couple of days. Not bad for one phone call. No complaints there -- Grizzly customer service rates a 10 in my book. The new fence rail works like a charm.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful bandsaw
Truly the ultimate bandsaw for the small shop. I am constantly impressed by the quality of this saw and the other Grizzly products.Buy it and you will not be disappointed.Make sure you have some help for unloading and setting up the saw; it can be challenging, although possible, for only one person to set it up. ... Editorial Review

Delta calls its 22-580 a finishing planer, but it's really two planers in one. A dimensioning speed of 60 cpi allows you to shave rough wood to its desired thickness quickly and accurately, with virtually no snipe. Then, with a single pass at the quicker finishing speed of 90 cpi, your wood comes out ultrasmooth and ready to go. The razor-sharp, double-sided M2 steel knives are powered by a 15 amp, 120-volt, single-phase motor. Bells and whistles like a blade zero indicator (which lets you set the cutterhead to the exact thickness of your wood), patented cutterhead lock (which eliminates snipe), and easy blade-change system add to the value, as do the oversize infeed and outfeed tables, which make it easier to glide your wood through the machine. Overall, this is one solid piece of machinery. --Carl Thress ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Real Happy with it or Delta
I purchased my Delta 2 speed finishing planer last Oct or Nov, I could check on which but it is not that important. At first I was thrilled. The unit made short work of rough lumber. The depth stop was outstanding. Snipe? I really didn't notice any. I have only done a couple of projects with it but those I've done entailed planing 4/4 cherry and oak to 3/4" and on some of the cherry 1/2".
I was working on the cherry project when I noticed the depth stop didn't. It set just fine but I could lower the head without so much as a slowdown. I also noticed sometimes boards would feed a few feet in (these are 4' lengths) then sieze up. I also started to notice the dreaded snipe.
I called Delta technical support and the woman I spoke to said open up the side with the stop and adjust the nut. She didn't say where to adjust it to so I tried up and down to no avail. She also said the siezing was caused by perhaps dirty feed rollers and if I put the speed control in the middle (neutral) the rollers would rotate freely. NOT SO, to clean the entire surface requires random runs to position the rollers to different stop points.
I finally took it in to the local Porter Cable/Delta repair facility. When I picked it up the repair guy was noticably condenscending. Perhaps I didn't bother to read the instructions? Did I even have the instructions? Could I read? He accused me of breaking it (causing the stop to not work). He came just shy of saying the snipe was due to the flimsy little feed tables on infeed and outfeed and to fix it I need to build a good perfectly level feed table for both sides.
Hmmm, ok but have you checked the price? This thing cost more than my Jet (or Delta) table saw. For that money I don't expect to be buying flimsy. At any rate, the Jet Planer is way beyond my budget so I am stuck with the Delta. If the two were close I'd give this puppy only one star, sell it and get the Jet.
By the way, I have yet to determine if the 2 speeds really do anything. The pitch sounds the same, the feed rate appears the same, and the finish looks the same. If anything, the slow speed finish might actually be smoother. It is close either way.

2-0 out of 5 stars Feeding problems galore
Bought the planer mid-summer 2004.Before the end of the year the planer began requiring "help" to keep the boards moving.Periodically it would just hang, burning the board.A quick nudge was needed to continue feeding.

Normal maintenance includes cleaning the rollers. The manual says to use a scotch pad and soapy water.I also adjusted the outfeed roller per the manual. This would fix the problem for a while, but it would slowly go back to its old ways.Eventually it gets so bad it requires a constant pushing or pulling to get the boards to feed continuously.Dangerous, frustrating, and leads to poor results. The finish when it works is amazing, but I have found the machine to be a poor substitute for a heavier duty unit.I am only a hobbyist, building boxes and some small furniture.

4-0 out of 5 stars great planer but ....
I have been making cabinets for the last five years and in that short amount of time I have used three different planers. This is the best one I've ever used. First off what really impressed me was that there was not that much assembly required (unlike most of delta's products). Second the finishing speed on the planer nearly eliminated the need for sanding (a big plus in my book). Lastly the blades seemed to hold up well. The first time out of the box I put it to work on a set of hard maple face frames and doors. Only at the end of my planing opporation did the boards start to show signs of planer marks (by that time I had put over 300 board foot of material through that planner). The planer marks were small and were easily taken care of with a cabinet scraper. Though out the entire process I only found one case of snip in a board and after that I have not detected any more cases of snip. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was the dust chute was not included rendering the planer usless with out it. Luckily I had read some of the reviews before I bought this planer so I knew I had to kick down the extra mony for the dust chute to start planing right out of the box. ... Read more

By evaporating water into a room, this portable humidifier soothes dry throats, prevents dry skin, and alleviates congestion due to colds or allergies. Set its control when a room reaches the desired humidity level and the device maintains that level by restarting when the humidity falls below the setting. Three fan speeds provide additional control; at low speed, the humidifier is bedroom-quiet. This model evaporates about 4.2 gallons of water in 24 hours at high speed. Two 2-gallon plastic bottles fit into the humidifier and permit water-level monitoring. They're virtually indestructible, spillproof, and leakproof, and have wide-mouth spouts and flat backs for easy filling. The humidifier's two wicks are treated to inhibit bacteria growth and need to be replaced every 60 to 90 days. The humidifier measures 20 by 13 by 11-1/2 inches, can be moved easily from room to room, and is simple to clean and maintain. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Evaporative Humidification
Until I found this humidifier, I had returned every single one I purchased. This one is a keeper. The design is what first got my attention. The symmetrical design looked much more pleasing to the eye, the colors were muted and I had the feeling it would blend into any room.

The reason I decided to purchase another humidifier was because I almost ruined a nice pot by forgetting about the water boiling on the stove. After that incident, I knew I had to find a better solution when the air in my home became too dry. I didn't want one of those humidifiers that heats the water and leaves your house steamed up. I wanted something more in line with a natural evaporation system.

Vornado Humidifiers deliver cool moisture the same way nature does. The wicks also trap minerals and other water-borne contaminants, providing clean, healthy moisture. The self-regulating evaporative technology insures you won't over-humidify the air. That makes it more cost efficient in the long run.

What I love most about this design is how easy it is to take apart. You simply lift the fan portion off the unit. Then, you can easily clean the base. This makes more sense to me. The wicks (which you can replace easily every three to four months) are treated to inhibit the growth of bacteria and the plastic parts naturally will resist the growth of water borne contaminants. The 2-gallon bottles keep water in the storage containers, so it remains clean and safe.

While you can set this on the high setting, I appreciate the lower almost silent setting. This is perfect when you put the humidifier in the bedroom. Not only does this have three settings, it also has a humidistat with a max to low setting.

If you want to move this unit, do remove the bottles first. I move it from the upstairs to the downstairs with ease. It is very light. The bottles have an easy to fill design which is a nice feature. The wide-mouth, funnel-shaped spout fits nicely under the faucet.

Physicians do recommend humidification for children and adults to help soothe dry, scratchy throats and to alleviate congestion due to colds and allergies. To maximize this, I recommend purchasing essential oils and dropping them on the top of the humidifier. There is a nice round disc right above the fan which is perfect for this application. I use a nice blend called RC. It contains peppermint, eucalyptus, marjoram, pine, cypress, spruce and lavender. I only use this blend when I want to purify the air in my home, otherwise, I just use a lavender essential oil as the RC blend has a more Vicks type scent.

If you don't live in a desert or in an area where the air is overly dry in the winter, you might want to go with the 2.8 gallon size. If you want to keep the unit running all winter, then this larger size will save you from constantly needing to refill the water bottles. They do advise you to let the water run out and then to let the wicks continue to dry before you shut off the unit. It really isn't any extra effort and it helps to circulate the air in your home.

4-0 out of 5 stars Quiet, solidly built
I wanted a quiet cool-mist humidifier with humidistat (no white dust as ultrasonics, more energy efficient than warm-mist types).

This Vornado has all these. The fan is indeed very quiet at low speed - the most quiet of any other type (I checked about 6 or 7 others, including models from Bionaire, Holmes, Honeywell, Kenmore and some other less-well-known brands). So far the humidistat seems to work - turns the unit on and off periodically....

I would have rated this unit 5 stars if not for one small glitch. As air periodically enters the tank when water evaporates it makes a quite disturbing sound. Several times per hour, not too often, but it is loud... I think it can be fixed by plugging a suitable piece of rubber with a small hole after the tank is full - this way only small amounts of air will enter and it will be quiet. Other humidifiers don't suffer this small problem.

Overall the Vornado is an excellent, well-bilt product, due mainly to its quiet and strong fan and its simple construction.

5-0 out of 5 stars As Per Instructions
I've had this humidifier for just over a week, and it has made a huge difference to the apartment, not to mention my extremely dry skin.

I was amazed to see reviews of this product complaining about leakage, as checking for leaks is covered in STEP 1 of the instruction booklet. The manufacturers explicitly state that before using the product, leaks in the base and tanks should be checked for, and they give clear instructions as to how to accomplish this; they also guarantee free replacement in case of any faults.

Should you be literate and have enough basic common sense to read the instructions, you may well find this humidifier to be a wondrous thing.

    * No "dewing" effect, as it is an evaporative machine that shuts off when the required level of humidity is reached
    * Effective evaporation
    * Large tank capacity means you can leave it on high for over 24 hours before refilling
    * Quiet operation.

When on "low", it is barely audible. At "medium" or "high", it acts as white noise. As a lifelong insomniac and light sleeper, I routinely use earplugs of the type that muffle sound but do not block it out (i.e. I can hear a loud whisper in the room). The humidifier has not bothered me. It does make a gurgling sound as the water level hits a point where an air-bubble enters the tank and forces more water out. This is not a very loud or unpleasant sound. A loud "knocking" described by a couple of other reviewers has not occurred with my humidifier, which has been running on "high" almost continuously just over a week; given the manufacturer's instructions, I would suggest that such noises, if genuinely loud and bothersome, be reported to the company in case the unit is faulty.

This is, in my humble opinion, a great humidifier for anyone who can read instructions and use a modicum of common sense. ... Read more

Sometimes, half an inch makes all the difference. But that's not the only reason to step up to the 735. Its powerful 10,000 rpm motor will handle anything you feed it--oak, walnut, exotics--with absolute ease. The three-knife cutterhead will make 96 or 179 cuts per inch, depending on which speed setting you choose. Mess is minimized with the fan-assisted chip ejection, which literally vacuums chips off the cutter-head and blows them out the exhaust. The 735's automatic carriage lock will save you from snipe by reducing the movement that causes it--what a great idea. We also love the redesigned thickness scale--it's big and super-visible, even in poor lighting. Those who do repetitive cuts will appreciate the turret depth-stop; set your most-used cuts to it once and you're always assured of accuracy. The home woodworker will be thrilled, and the professional's expectations will be more than met. This is a winner.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Little Planer
I got my DW734 on sale at a great price and have used it in my shop with great success. I have used it on all kinds of wood hard and soft and it has done an excellent job. So far no need to sharpen or replace the blades, although I would not have expected to at this point

I wouldn't even consider purchasing this planer without the optional infeed and out feed extension tables. I think Dewalt should consider including them as part of the package rather than as an option.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad design backed up with terrible support
The planner arived and I was able to use it right away. The snipe was not bad and the finish was fairly good. There is barely any noticable finish diference between the two speeds on hardwoods. After less than 100 board feet, this all changed.

The sprockets are made from sintered hardened powder metal. They break under light loads and are expensive to replace, even though they are probably purchased for under 20 cents by Dewalt.Dewalt has now changed to a different material sprocket that so far is holding up.It is too bad that they did not stand behind their product and issue conversion kits or issue a recall for the known design flaw.

The rollers are also weak.Even when removing 1/64" on narrow boards, they do not have the force needed to push the wood past even brand new knives.I'm forced with manually pushing the boards thru the planner. That is until I purchase a new one - not Dewalt.

The knife design is poor and prone to breaking down the knifes. They can not be sharped. They have an edge on both sides, so you can use them twice at $45 a pop.

The on-line service is a joke. The narrest service center is an hour away for me and will require taking a days vacation due to their limited hours of operation and no weekends.

Save your self the headache, and don't by this piece of junk.

3-0 out of 5 stars Kevin - Appleton, Wisconsin
Decent planer, but very lousy knives.Planing less then 100 board feet on hemlock and white pine and the blades are already junk, plus they're expensive to replace.DeWalt should really construct some better knives

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product
I used this for an entire year to heat a 20x10 master bathroom on a north-facing corner in a house in the snow belt in New York State. Tile floor, double-width full-size windows, no direct sunlight. Unit heated room to desired temp in SECONDS and kept it there ALL WINTER, EFFORTLESSLY and QUIETLY, even at 2 am, during a blizzard with 50 mph gusts. Even when heating it is cool to touch, minimizing fire hazard (if any!) compared with any other stand-alone room heater, and making it safer around children and pets.

I came online to order another for another room and saw the bad review from California. The only explanation for the unit failing to heat a room from 60 degrees to 72 degrees is that the unit was faulty or damaged, was not plugged in, or the outlet was faulty or switched off. This is a terrific product, as room heaters go.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quiet & Reliable
Use this fan / heater 3 to 5 hours daily for an approx 475 sq foot area. It works awesome quiet and hassle free.

5-0 out of 5 stars I bought two more after liking the first so well
I've read the various reviews.I can't comment on the experience of other people, but here's mine.I have a bathroom that can be quite chilly, and I thought I'd see if a Vornado would help.It did.In fact, I liked it so well, that I bought one for my elderly parents, who tend to be cold almost all the time. They use it regularly, both in their TV room, and in the bathroom. It's quite light and easy to transport, so they do.THEN I decided to take my bathroom Vornado to work, since we had some "thermostat wars" going on and my office would suddenly turn frigid because someone else was too warm.It worked again. So I bought a third for the bathroom. Nary a problem. It's quiet. It heats smoothly and circulates the heat as claimed. As a result the room gets gently warmer, not the three feet of space in front of the heater. With three units purchased at different times, I would think I would have come across one of the defective ones that others have complained about, but I have not had that happen to me. I am very pleased. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Lamp
I bought this lamp on sale to match the brushed nickel hardware on a new bedroom set.It was extremely easy to assemble and it has a very sturdy base.I love that I can just use the reading lamp without having the other light on.It is very stylish and provides ample lighting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great ambiance, good quality for the money
I bought two of these from the store for our office. One was missing a piece so I had to take it back, but all in all they assemble rather easily, the fact that they have a three-way switch/lighting option is great and you can adjust both shades to light your area the way you'd like.I have my lower light aimed at my desk top and the upper straight up.It really adds nice ambiance and lighting and we've gotten many compliments.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly designed
I bought this lamp from and I'm really disappointed in it.My problems with it:

    a. Lacking any kind of dimmer, it's reading lamp (the side one) is much too bright for it's intended purpose.

    b. The swivel on the side lamp is useless - because of the lack of tension on the screw holding it in, it simply flops around. It looks useful and isn't - this is my biggest problem with this lamp.

This was my first purcahse of a lamp or furniture of any kind via Amazon, so perhaps I was just naive in believing some of the reviews. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Grizzly is HORRIBLE to deal with
I have to reserve judgement on the actual machine - I haven't had it long enough to rate it yet.

But, Grizzly is not a good company to deal with.If I could do it again, I would buy directly from Amazon and not through it's Grizzly marketplace.I won't buy another Grizzly machine, simply because of the way they treat their customers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Experience So Far
I'm writing this in a two part review. this first part relates to the 'out of the box' experience with the tool. Since I just received it I can't judge using the tool at this point so I'll post another review in a few months with that second part.

I'm new to woodwoorking & will be doing it as a hobby. I'm taking it seriously, however, with big plans for house remodel projects. wish me luck ;-).

After reading a ton of information on serious hobbiest category jointers, I narrowed my choice down to the Powermatic 64A, the Yorkcraft 8" which is supposedly the same thing as a Delta, or the Grizzly. I had read a lot of questionable quality issues with Grizzly but the 8" x 75" jointer I was looking at was getting no bad press and lots of positive words, so I decided that for the price the Grizzly was worth the risk.

I ordered the Grizzly thorugh Amazon and was called the next day by Grizzly confirming the order. I was called three business days later (!!!!!) by the freight company to schedule delivery. I opted to spend and extra $25 to have a liftgate delivery. Upon delivery, the freight company unloaded the large crate (with the jointer top) via dolly and pulled it up a hill into my detached garage. They went a step beyond and never even mentioned it. My delivery crate was completely undamaged. The other box that the base arrived in was also free of damage.

I opened the crate and found the inside basically as like it was most likely shipped from the distributer--nothing looked like it had moved at all. No damage or rearrangement in shipping. The shipping experience (provided in my instance by Oak Harbor Freight) could not have been better.

I started unpacking at about 6:00. I finished assembling at 12:00 with an hour trip to the hardware store for the electrical components. I could have done the entire thing (including placing the jointer head on the base) myself, though I wouldn't recommend it. The head is 'light' enough to pick up by one side and rotate on to the base. Not that the head is light by any means, but light enough to get it on the base by yourself.

I read the instructions one time through then wiped down the parts with citrus degreaser. No problem there. I didn't experience over-packing with the grease like I've heard others mention. Citrus took it right off.

Wiring the motor switch was for me the most time consuming because I had to go to the hardware store to get the right plug with is not included. I think Grizzly should include the silly 220 plug (which the motor and swtch are factory wired for). Guess what Grizzly? 95% of buyers are going to wire this beast 220! Include the silly plug! Anyway, outside of the hardware run, installing the switch and the motor wiring was super easy and was just as the instruction book outlines.

After wiring the motor, the next step via the book is to put the jointer top on the base. This is a mistake. Don't do that. The `next' step should be to loosen the bolts on the motor base so you can adjust the v-pulley tightness, because after you have the top on the base, it's really hard to loosen the base because of the lack of wrench space. Lesson learned.

OK, so NOW you put the top on. Like I said, I did this myself (and it's probably easier all things considered) by moving the base close to the top, then lifting just one side of the top, rotating it on end then setting it GENTLY back down on the base then rotating the other end up until the whole top is up. Less people involved means less people to potentially get in the way when you are dealing with this 300+ pound chunk of steel.

The top is secured to the base with screws from inside the cab. This was much easier to do than I expected. After that, adding the v-belts finishes the connections. Like I said above, there are bolts that allow the motor base to moveup and down. This allows you to put the v-belts, then lower the motor to make them tight. Loosen these bolts BEFORE putting the top on-way easier. Adjusting the v-belt tightness/alignment was very easy.

Next, the fence: it's nothing fancy, and it's not ground to the same tolerance as the table. The table is very flat and straight. With a Starrett 2' straightedge I detect no falloff towards either the end of the 75" table. The table itself is not totally flat, I do detect very, very small glimmers of light under the straightedge-on the range of thousands of an inch. Small enough for me not to worry about. The fence, however, is not as flat-small gaps that probably are close to hundredths of an inch. This, however, probably falls into the range of human error pressing the material into the fence anyhow and is practically not a problem.

Setting the outfeed/infeed tables to neutral is easy. The Outfeed table action is not smooth at all, but, that's probably an advantage because that means there is more friction holding the outfeed table in place. Since it's a set once and forget thing I'm not concerned at all with it. The infeed table action is much smoother and is easy to dial in. I had no problem setting up the knives and both tables.

Installing the fence is super easy, it is really easy to adjust back-forth, but I think the fence angle system is bunk (no an issue for me-I'll only be using it for 90 degree anyhow). It's not easy with the fence angle mover and the fence angle lock to get it to set and stay *exactly* where you want it. The locker tends to move the fence ever so slightly when you tighten it. When locked, however, it seems super solid. Time will tell if it works well or not. I can say, however, that I wouldn't be at all excited about this fence if I was constantly moving the angle.

The blade guard is also easy to install but there is this tightening bolt that is poorly positioned on it. It sticks out a bit from the table edge and I am quite sure I'll get caught on it from time to time when using the tool. The bolt should be moved close to the table.

So, overall, assembling the tool was nearly foolproof, with the exception of the bolt-loosening mentioned above, I had no problems at all. I'm very impressed with the fit and finish of the tool-no ugly welding beads, no paint issues, nothing. While how the tool actually works is the important part, I can say that I'd be surprised if the tool did not work as well as it appears to have the ability to.

I'll write a usage review in a few months.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Machine
I purchased a Grizzly GO500 about 6 months ago and couldn't be more satisfied with the machine. The 8" x 75" cast iron bed is smooth as glass. The in feed bed slides up or down on dovetailed ways with ease and lock into place with a simple twist of the locking lever. The cuts this machine makes are smooth and uniform. The rabbet table is a little small but very usable. The rabbets I have cut in stock to accommodate cabinet back boards have all been smooth and even. The cuts were very easy to make. The heavy cast iron fence is very easy to adjust.

I have been making a lot of drawers that use either dovetailed or box joints. For these joints to fit correctly it is imperative that the stock be absolutely flat with no cupping or warp. But good wood is hard to find and it's expensive. One method I use is to purchase wood of lesser quality at cheaper prices and use my jointer in combination with my planer to recover usable stock from warped and cupped lumber. This method works great, and my joints come out perfect every time.

The 75" bed length is a necessity when jointing 8 foot lumber. Jointing long lumber on a shorter bed would be dangerous and would require an in feed and out feed roller stand. The 8" wide bed is a necessity for squaring up 7 inch wide stock.

The Grizzly Jointer is very heavy. It comes in two pieces, the base and the bed.During assembly it will take two or more big men to lift the bed up onto the base.Once assembled the machine is heavy enough that it can't be moved.Fortunately I ordered a mobile base for my machine so I could move it for cleaning, maintenance or to rearrange my shop from time to time. The mobile base is an absolute necessity.Make sure that you attach the jointer base to the mobile base before you attach the heavy jointer bed.

The assembly process is not easy. There are bolts that hold the bed to the base that because of their location are extremely hard to get nuts on. Attaching and adjusting the drive belts is an almost impossible task.It requires that you remove the mounting bolts from the motor so there is enough play to install the belts. But the mounting bolts are underneath the machine which is way too heavy to move let alone turn upside down. This was the only issue I had with the Grizzly and it was probably due to some dunder head machine metalwork designer who didn't take the five minutes necessary to think about the consequences of his work.

The power cable does not come with a wall plug. The plug has to be purchased separately. I suppose this is because the machine can be wired for either 110V or 220V operation. The directions are pretty clear on how to do that.I chose the 220V option.

There are a wide range of 220V wall receptacles that are designed for specific current loads.Different receptacles are designed to be mechanically incompatible with one another. You have to know what wall receptacle you have so you can purchase the correct power cable plug.I took a close up digital picture of my 220V wall receptacle, printed it on my office printer and took it to Home Depot to locate the correct cable plug. Not only did the picture clearly show the configuration of the prong holes, it also showed the part number which I matched with the corresponding plug part number to insure I had the right pair.

After about three hours, I had managed to solve the assembly problems and am extremely happy with the performance of my Grizzly Jointer. You can view the image of the completely assembled (less power cord) jointer by clicking on the "view customer images" link just below Amazon's picture of the Jointer.

The machine was not packaged well and when it arrived the cheaply constructed wooden crates were all but destroyed. The delivery truck driver mentioned that he has seen this problem a lot with Grizzly machinery. The packaging isn't strong enough to accommodate the weight of these very heavy machines.

When I ordered the Jointer I also ordered a can of Sprayway C-60 Solvent Cleaner and Degreaser from Grizzly. This is a great solvent. One spray and some wiping with a red rag removes the packing grease on the cast iron fence and bed in short order and leaves them both shiny and smooth.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best one I ever seem so far
I've using cool mist humidifier for years and this is the best so far, quite and easy to clean.I use it on medium level and it is good enough for a large bedroom and very quiet compare with others that I been used before.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works well, quiet
I've been using this unit in my bedroom for about 4 months and find that it performs as advertised (humididifies well, easy to fill and maintain). It is not "whisper quiet."However, if you can tolerate a low whir, you should be fine with this noise. On Low speed, it is probably quieter than a desktop fan.High speed is another matter entirely, but I have never had to resort to this setting.

    Editorial Review

Bosch's 10-inch Worksite table saw might just be the best of the current bunch. Benchtop table saws--which weigh 60 to 100 pounds and are light enough for one person to carry from the truck to the job site--have increased in popularity in recent years. They set up easily on a workbench or sawhorses and generally feature stable components that make them great for pros and serious hobbyists alike. Although at 60 pounds the Bosch is lighter than any other saw in its class, this saw is no lightweight. It sports a die-cast undercarriage and powerful 4.4-horsepower, 15 amp motor--burly components that make it a serious, albeit slight, contender. Conveniently, the Bosch comes ready to use right out of the box; we were making cuts about 10 minutes after the UPS delivery. Plus, it's the only benchtop table saw with an arbor lock, so mounting the blade is a one-wrench affair (less chance for busted knuckles). The wrench--like all those that come with Bosch tools--is forged, rather than stamped, and so there are no sharp edges that dig into your hand during blade changes. It's a small detail, but one that matters and one that's typical of the attention to detail paid by Bosch engineers.

A flip of the paddle-style on/off switch initiates the soft-start electronics, which ramp the blade up to speed quickly without any disturbing jolt. The electronic feedback, popular on many saws today, keeps the blade turning at a constant speed, no matter what the load. The fence is the heart of any table saw and we found Bosch's to be a beauty. It's well machined and locks securely and accurately to the table. The cam-lock handle is padded, seats flush, and feels good to use. Like the comparable DeWalt saw, the Bosch features an extendable fence that makes it easy to rip four-by-eight panel material. It feels solid and slides smoothly, and the scales are easy to read. (There's even a built-in magnifying glass to cut down on the squint factor.) As with all the new Bosch tools, wrenches and removable items store nicely onboard the saw. The fence snaps into a holder on the side of the saw and stays put, and the miter gauge slides into a slot on the front of the tool--yet another small detail that we appreciate. The bottom line? The Bosch is a powerful saw that handles big stock without bogging down. --Mark McDonald ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE Best portable table saw EVER
I have been a carpenter for over 20 years.I have never used a portable table saw as nice as this one.Very Happy

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent saw but now having problems
I've owned my saw for almost 2 years and I do finish carpentry along with some general carpentry and I am always loading and unloading this thing from my truck. I love the acurracy, smooth start and steady power. I have always had problems changing the saw blade because the inside blade gaurd gets in the way when taking the blade on and off. I've had to grind the corners off the gaurd to eliminate this problem. More recently the mechanism that tilts the blade wont tighten up and I can'tfigure out how to adjust this, now I have to take it in to a service center. Also the stand has problems locking in the upright position.
This sounds like I dont like the saw but I really do, I am just frustrated with these issues and I dont have time to drop my saw off for several weeks while it gets repaired.

4-0 out of 5 stars No Portable Saw Deserves 5, But This Is The Best By Far
I'm a home remodeler, so I really pay attention to the portability of a job site table saw, as well as its performance. On both of these levels, the Bosch is simply the best. I've used, owned, or researched just about every job site saw out there from the major manufacturers, and side by side, there really is no competition. I know a lot of folks eventually pit the Bosch against the DeWalt, however, I found it impossible to believe that the DeWalt fence system, as smooth as it is, can withstand the day-to-day abuse a job site saw must endure. Yes, the table top of the Bosch is easily marred, and the splitter ain't worth a damn; however, for what it is, and what it is supposed to do, the Bosch is the one to get.

Oh yeah, as I stated above, no portable table saw out there, not even the Bosch, merits a 5 star rating. The very nature and purpose of a portable table saw means that some things must be sacrificed in its engineering and construction, usually on the performace end, or on the portability end (sometimes both!) It just seems crazy to me to expect the performance of a cabinet saw when portability is required as well. Something's gotta give!!! ... Read more

Having survived two hurricanes (barely) in S. FL last season, I didn't want to be in the dark without television video advising me what to expect next time. This little television meets my expectations and then some regaring picture clarity, size, ease of use, convenience, and appearance.I read the reviews of the dissatisfied customers and must say that, fortunately, my experience with this purchase has been entirely favorable.I would certainly recommend this television if you are looking for a portable model.

2-0 out of 5 stars no customer service, no adapter
I just bought this and 1. it did not come with an adapter for in-home use nor did it come with a car adapter. Its a neat little tv, but - when I tried to call to ORDER the adapters - the number is "no longer active". So what does that tell you? It tells you that - do not buy this product. It costs too much, and they can't even supply an adapter! and 2. There is NO customer service to order more supplies, ask about warranty, return the defective product or ask general inquiries. I gave it two stars for its quality, but dropped the two stars for horrible customer service and no adapter.

With this device, there's no reason why sitting at home or the office or idling in rush-hour traffic can't be soothing and relaxing. It's a body-sculpted, padded, soft fabric body massager that fits most chairs and automobile seats, secures with elastic straps, and then massages neck, shoulders, back, buttocks, and thighs at 10 separate points with 10 little motors. It also produces heat for the back--with a safety pressure-activated switch that turns off the heat if you rise from the seat. An LED-illuminated control similar to a television remote control allows you to choose between three massage speeds and intensities, select for heat, choose which body parts to massage, and select from five massage patterns: steady, up-and-down, pulsating, side-to-side, and circulating. An AC home adapter and a 12-volt auto adapter come with the massager, which carries a two-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars ok, but.....
The description of this made it sound really great.Once I got it though, there are a few things to consider. For one, the thing doesn't fit in my chairs. It has elastic straps, but they are too short to secure around my recliner which is the only chair with a high enough back for me to use it.So I tried it with it just sitting in the chair. The lower functions for the low back and legs are fine, but the higher ones made my upper back and neck hurt worse.I have yet to try it in my car...I haven't wanted to dig it out of my closet.:(

3-0 out of 5 stars Uncomfortable
It works as advertised.I would prefer a touch more heat.

The main issue I have is that it is uncomfortable to sit on for a long time.In particular the two leg motors stick up so that you feel pressure points while seated.

It is unfortunate, but I remove the unit when not using the message and heat.

A good filtration system is as important as any tool in your shop, and the Jet AFS-1000 is a pretty inspired machine. Like other systems on the market, Jet's uses a two-filter process: an outer filter removes particles up to 5 microns in size and an inner, three-pocket filter traps particles as small as 1 micron. The electrostatic outer filter easily withstands three or four washings, and the inner filter can be blown clean easily with compressed air. On the power end, Jet's three-speed, 1/6-horsepower motor filters to 1044 cfm on high speed. The outer filter is well sealed and provides efficient intake. However, what really sets the AFS-1000 apart from most filtration systems is its remote control and timer features. Since these systems are most effective when placed high or hung from the ceiling, being able to control all of the unit's functions via remote control is a feature we quickly decided we wouldn't want to live without. The timer, which can also be set via remote, affords you the option to set it and forget it. --Justin Paul ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Machine, Horible Customer Service
Over the past three months, I have purchased 4 Jet woodworking machines including this one, to the tune of almost $2400.Until recently, I was planning to purchase a Jet Planer Molder and Performax Drumsander, but based on my recent experience with the WHM Tool Group, who makes this equipment, I am having second thoughts.Although I am for the most part happy with the machines I've purchased, when I was assembling my table saw, the fence that came with the saw did not match the one in the instructions, and I had to spend a considerable amount of time on hold with the WHM customer service department to find out how to mount it to the saw.I can live with that, but as I began to use the saw I discovered that although two arbor wrenches are required to change the saw blade, only one came with the saw. Although I don't think it is too much to ask that they throw in two $6 wrenches with a $1500 saw, I thought, I'd just order one from the WHM website. There I found that the Shipping for the $6 wrench would be $19.99.I sent a note to WHM regarding this requesting a reply, and did not receive one. When I called a week later, I was curtly told that the saw comes with only one wrench. When I asked why it would cost $20 to send a $6 wrench that would fit in a standard letter sized envelope, I was told that they do not ship via U.S Mail, and that was the end of the conversation.I ordered the wrench to the tune of $26.70, and was surprised again to find that it was back ordered with no expected date of delivery. I sent a copy of this rating to WHM tool group to give them a chance to respond, but again have received no response almost a week later. For what ever it's worth, if customer service is important to you and you don't want to have to purchase things that should come with the tool and then be charged three times the value of the item for shipping and handling you might want to consider another brand.

1-0 out of 5 stars No way to review when new unit fuse blows
Just purchasd the unit based upon all of the favorable reviews. Maybe I'm in the minority but when connecting the power and hitting "ON"...poof, the fuse trips. I reset the fuse, try again, and...poof, the fuse blows. The third try was not a charm. Based upon a new unit doing this, I have to rate it 1 star. Perhaps I will spend a little more and by the USA-made JDS.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good investment with many applications
Solid construction and performance all around; the unit is intended for ceiling mount but is just portable enough for my purposes. Considering the many favorable customer reviews here, I'm not alone in endorsing the AFS-1000B and have no regrets having purchased one. ... Read more

Routers don't get any bigger and tougher than this Hitachi workhorse. It has the solid construction, horsepower, and features we've come to expect in a top-of-the-line router. Its heft goes a long way toward eliminating vibration, working with the soft-start motor to cut out torque at startup. Despite its nearly 12 pounds, it actually handles as well as most 3-1/4-horsepower routers we've tried in freehand applications. It has a 1/2-inch collet and a wide sub-base opening, making it suitable for working with all but the very biggest panel bits. It features electronic variable speed, so the router makes clean cuts in a wide range of different materials. We found the controls to be within easy reach of the handles, and though this isn't the quietest router we've used, it comes pretty close. We like the unique eight-position handles that let the tool be adjusted to the worker rather than the other way around. While this is a topnotch plunge router, it's also an excellent choice for table mounting, and many people choose this model for exactly that reason. This is an all-around solid tool that offers more bang per buck than many competing models. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hitachi Router
This is an excellent router for the price. This is my second one. The first one lasted about 6 years of heavy use.

4-0 out of 5 stars The bad, the good, the ugly green router.
I purchased the Hitachi M12V several months ago and have used it quite a bit since receiving it. This is my first plunge router so I do not have a great base to compare from. I'll start with 4 problems that I have with this model. First, since I had no previous experience with plunge routers, I was heavily relient on the user manual for setup and use. This is a mistake. It is a bad translation from some engineer that didn't really no what the tool was built for. It did get me on the road to using this router, but a friend with a plunge router or maybe a book on plunge routing will help out more. Second, the plunge action binds sometimes. I attribute this to putting uneven pressure on base plate and now make a conscious effort to apply even pressure. The first time a bit jerks down into your work, you will know what I am talking about here. My third complaint is that the bit tightening is awkward. I can see how this would be an engineering challenge with any plunge router. Maybe the key here is don't change the bit alot. Have a couple other dedicated routers for chamforing or other types of routing you do frequently and do not need plunging action for. The last problem is not really with the router, but with this $29 micro adjuster. Don't waste your time. The adjuster came as part of my package so I have a drawer. This thing is called a micro adjustment knob although the adjustment is on a course threaded rod. How can you call it micro? Also, the 1/2 straight bit included in the package when installed, and the plunge mechanism adjusted all the way up cannot accomodate the micro adjustment knob. The rod it is on does not have enough threads to keep it on the router. My suggestion here is if you really need this 'fine' adjustment, replace the coarse threaded rod with a fine threaded one and some new nuts. You can get a knurled knob that will substitute and be better than the oem knob.
Now for the praise. This machine will go through any thing I throw at it (depending on the sharpness of the bit). As well as heavy cutting, I use this for inlays. Some of the review talked about the heaviness of this router, I have not found this to be a problem. In fact when doing the inlay, more mass gives less vibration and better stability. The slow start works great and the variable speed is a godsend. I rate this product with the second highest rating because it has become a tool that I know if it were taken from me, I would buy another.... unless someone gifted me one. hint hint.

3-0 out of 5 stars Can be a safety hazard
I have purchased & used 2 of these routers in the past 3 years. They last about 1 1/2 years until the problems start. My first router is a safety hazard if you do not pay attention and are not very careful. First, I must say that I am a professional woodworker, so, this router was used every day. Mainly using core box bits & bull nose bits as well as round over bits. I use it on woods from the hardest of maples & osage to cedars. When the router is working it is a very nice machine for the money. But, the first one just stopped working while pushing through the workpiece. Then, without warning, it took off again. Luckily the soft start helped before it took the wood and tossed it or worse case, a finger. I use these routers under a table. Outside of needing an extension for half inch bits, which is a problem for most machines of this type. Once a depth is locked, it will jump off a little while working. You must keep double checking depths. But, for the money it is a good machine. Well, my second one is now beginning to hicup a bit after about 1 1/2 years. The electronic speed control is not doing it's job and the router begins to speed up and slow down at will. I am now waiting for this one to stop. For the hobbiest, it's probably a nice buy. For the person that uses the equipment every day, pay the extra and get a reliable & safer unit. If this machine just stops on you, unplug it quickly and get out of the way! ... Read more
