Editorial Review

The 2x4 Basics workbench assembles to any size and fits anywhere. Shops and garages come in all shapes and sizes, and as a consequence, standard prefabricated workbenches are often too big or too small. This workbench customizes to fit any space. Featuring a comfortable 36-inch-high work surface and large under-bench storage shelves, the workbench is super easy to assemble--you just add any length lumber you want. Better yet, all you do is make simple straight cuts--no miters, no angles. The result is a customized, rugged workbench that's capable of holding up to 1,000 pounds per shelf. And because it's so versatile, you can also use it as a hobby table, power-tool stand--you name it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product
Using one workbench kit and two sets of shelf links I reorganized my entire garage in one weekend.

Total cost about $100 for the components plus $300 for the wood - great deal.

I'm ordering more shelflinks right away for my workshop.

Very solid and sturdy.Fairly easy to build as well.Be ready to spend an additional $40 to $100 for lumber depending on quality and design.Still a good deal for a solid workbench.I built mine to be 4' by 8' and used 3/4 inch BC plywood for work surface. It's big but had to make minimal cuts to lumber. If you have the room, your workbench can never be too big.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great kit -- read the description!
We've been looking to buy another one of these and are really glad to find it here.We put together one with heavy duty plywood sheets for a huge, sturdy worktable, and it works terrific.

Read the description. The kit is adjustable and you PROVIDE YOUR OWN LUMBER.It plainly says that.Plus, take a look at the weight. There could be no lumber in the kit. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Firewood Rack
I especially like that you can build a firewood rack that is 2 tiers.I put the small pieces on top and larger logs on the bottom. It went together in just a few minutes.

3-0 out of 5 stars Does the job, but does not dazzle
What can you expect from 12 bucks worth of recycled plastic? I guess I'd gone and expected something a little more sturdy and ingenious, and while I was satisfied I was not impressed with what I got. This is simply a couple of plastic brackets that will allow sets of 2x4s to form whatever structure you're building. It'll do the job, but nothing more.

Note that this is simply two (2) of the exact same brackets that you can buy in a six pack (6) at lower cost from Finley. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Turn two-by-fours into any shelving you need using only a saw and screwdriver. Using ShelfLinks, you can connect inexpensive two-by-fours in any shelving configuration you need with just a few square saw cuts and a screwdriver. Build a great-looking entertainment center on the cheap. Quickly put up shelving in your garage and organize your tools and clutter once and for all. 5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, cheap, and extremely strong
Very strong plastic composite pieces. You definitly need a power saw (miter, table, circular) and an electric drill (about 60 screws that need to go into raw wood). Most efficent build is with just 8 2x4 studs, at least 8'.For a 5.5' ~ 6' shelf, cut 4 pieces of lumber off at 29.5", what is left are the 4 frame lumbers 5'+ and the 4 shorter shelf pieces for the lower 2 shelves. The other 8 pieces cut at exactly 3'.
For $40 (with new wood) I built my first shelf, which I loaded w/ 1,500 lbs of granite, marble, and porceline tile for my next bathroom rip out.NO problem w/ the weight, could easily double that.
I bought 2 more of these kits and the workbench kit (will review that after receiving and assembling).
Width issue is not a concern, I am going to make a 6'x6', the shelves are 4 2x4 studs, no chance of bowing at long lenght.
Understand another reviewer's concerns about the mounts not fitting snuggly, but that is a well thought out plus. You can use scap lumber, which is often bowed due to moisture issues. Plus you do not have to fight to insert the last screws.
To the manufacurer, I would suggest dark colored or black screws and not the shinny silver ones. With stained wood this could be attractive enough for a dorm room or a utility room.
Most important the screws provided are decent grade, have not had one strip off yet, and they provide extras.
Simple and practical product.

3-0 out of 5 stars Brackets don't fit 2x4's snugly
I was disappointed to see a 1/4" gap between the 2x4 and the bracket on the longer dimension.(My 2x4's are 1-1/2"x3-1/2", but the opening is 3-3/4" wide.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Need more than a saw and a screwdriver
This is a great product. You can build these shelves with just a saw and a screwdriver, BUT you better have a lot of strength in that screw driving arm, a great eye for right angles, and a lot of time if you plan to cut all of those two-by-fours with a hand saw. I suggest that optimal tools for the job are: tape measure, angle, level, circular saw, and power drill with a phillips head or a power screwdriver.

Instead of buying off the shelf units that may or may not fit the space intended, and which cost substantially more, you can build customized shelves that fit the space perfectly. If you live in an urban area where storage space is tight and getting the most out of every square foot is important, then this product can be useful. I buy the cheapest two-by-fours available and use the shelves for storage in my basement. Note: the shelves are 16" deep. ... Read more
