Unhappy with adjustable clutch
My last drill was a Makita 14.4v, and I stepped up to the Panasonic because of the great reviews, the small size and decent power, and most of all, because it uses the same battery as the metal cutting rotary saw that my company supplies...a great tool.I wish I could say the same of the drill. I am a commercial electrician and use a cordless everyday for screwing and cutting holes with "hole shooter" bits in metal framing. The Panasonic definitely has less power than my old Makita, and my biggest gripe is that the clutch setting always pops out of "drill" mode to the variabe settings for screwing. What a pain to constantly reset the thing from the top of a ladder with hands full, especially when I have the drill squeezed into a tight spot. I think if I was a carpenter and used it mainly for screwing it would be fine, but for an electrician a lockable setting on the clutch control like Makita makes is a must. Like others have said, it is also difficult to quickly re-chuck a bit on center without fumbling around with closing the chuck to just larger than the bit size before inserting the bit. For a professional dong production work, this is not a good option.

I look forward to trying a Panasonic again when they make some refinements to its design. In the mean time I am going to return this one and get another Makita or maybe try a refurbished Hitachi.

Junk, not made to last!
My Dustbuster lasted a whole two years, but the last year it would only work for 3-4 minutes before the charge ran out.I found myself running like a maniac to quickly clean up a mess before the battery ran down.It also has low suction, so heavier things like sand don't get sucked up completely.This is one of several Black & Decker appliances I have been dissappointed with in the last few years.From the product lifespan, to the lack of customer service - they aren't the same company my parents loved.My mother had one of the earliest dustbusters which lasted 10 years, and charged like a champ.Oh well.

Instead, I recommend the Euro-Pro shark.I have had one for a while now, and love it.It has a very long cord, it's lightweight, and it has enough suction to pick up small children and pets!It cost a little more than the Black & Decker Dustbuster, and outperforms it completely.And if you can't rely on your hand vaccuum, then the price is irrelevant.

It's *NOT* The Batteries...
I too owned this particular model, and by pure chance, so did my neighbour.Mine stopped working after 6 months, in which I followed the directions and kept the unit clean.My neighbour's stopped working after 8 months.Instead of throwing them away, (there were no service centres nearby, and B&D's shipping charges were insane) I took my tester out to see where the trouble might lie.Much to my surprise, there was no power reaching the charging base of the Dustbuster, so I immediately focused my attention on the charging unit.I separated the wires from the charging base and put the tester to work. Sure enough, there was no power coming out of the charger! The verdict?It wasn't the BATTERIES after all, it was a defective charger.(just like the other reviewer said).

I did some more research on this, and found that there were several Dustbusters made (maybe hundreds?) that seem to have had faulty chargers.Why B&D never issued a national recall remains a mystery, but it makes perfect sense that maybe they didn't know about this issue?If they did, then they looked the other way, hoping that the problem wasn't too widespread. I remember the salesman at Sears saying that quite a few of these models came back for the exact same reason. (Dustbusters in Canada have a 2yr warranty) I think there was a quality control issue at their plant in China, and interestingly enough, the newer Dustbusters have a different charger on them.We shall see if this problem has been resolved, as I've just purchased another one (model CHV9600-see my review) and will take note of how long that one lasts me.My first Dustbuster purchased in 1990 lasted 8 years, and all models after that have given me trouble! ... A great lathe for the money!
I have only had this lathe for a week.It went together easy and has worked flawlesly.I also got the Super Nova2 chuck which is a necessary accessory I believe.I have been turning 5" to 8" bowls so I have not had any vibration problems.I do plan to add some weight down the road for bigger bowls. I have not tried to turn a bowl with the headstock rotated 90 degrees but will try it soon.It will handle up to 16" they say.A great buy!!!

Great Fun
I bought this as my first lathe in 20 years. I never really got going before and was a little concerned. What a joy to use, no vibration, easy accessories and just plain fun. In addition to my wood shop I also have a metal shop and use those lathes quite a bit. No other piece of gear I have bought in the last 10 years has been this easy to set up and fun to be creative with. I went out to the woods and gathered some burls from dead fallen trees. This lathe handled those hard difficult pieces with no problem. I would definitely agree with one of the other reviewers that you want to work with sharp tools (this is of course true with all wood working tools. I highly recommend this lathe to anyone wanting to try out turning.

Another Great tool form Jet
I purchased my Jet lathe when it went on sale at Woodworkers warehouse before they closed, And as many other have just for the fun of it I had no jobs line up for it at first but boy it was a great buy. As a starter on the lathe I cant not find one complant with this product. Do you have to weigh it down? well that is all on how much you are turning but when you have to place wood across the supports and toss what every you have that has weight on it. no problem. I have to say for the money Jet did Good on this one. (to any one who is thinking about turning, try it you wont be sorry ) As for your Turning Set besure to shop around the best price is not always the best package. I got my lathe with the Turning chisels and face sheild which in the long run ran me cheaper to get as a package. it may be cheaper for you as well. 4 stars being I got what I paid for. ... I love my dremel
After more than 10 years of heavy use (maybe abuse) my Dremel 395
finally died last night.I can't get a new one fast enough, but I thought I might take the chance get a newer model.Alot could have changed in ten years, but after reading the reviews of the newer 395D and 400 models it sounds they would never stand up to the way I use my Dremel.So I think I'll be getting another trusty 395.

Great Tool & Value
Wanted one of these since was a kid.Finally (at 40) bought one and cant figure how I used to do projects without one.Anyone considering the kit without the flex shaft should reconsider.The flex shaft makes this the most versatile tool I own.

VERY VERSITILE....
I recieved this tool as a christmas gift in 2003. I make decorative boxes of all types and thought it would be handy for sanding tight radius, especially inside the box cavity. It does this duty extremely well, I am able to effectively remove all saw marks in those real tight area's and achieve a nicer finished product. What did surprise me was how many other task's I can use this little powerhouse for. I find myself using it for carving contours on the outside of the boxes a lot, with the variable speed you can maintain control easily, following the grain pattern, no matter how wild it may be. Then using one of the fine pointed stones, I can undercut the contour and polish it out, leaving a real head scratcher of a detail not usually found in decorative boxes. I use it to end cut drawer handles that are too small to chop with a saw, and to trim "keys" on mitered corners. Every time I am trying to think of a way to accomplish some wild (dumb?) way to accomplish something with wood I end up reaching for the dremel. With the flexi shaft, vari speed and "pencil" end it is so easy to control, that you can let your imagination get the best of you and still accomplish the finish you are looking for. Every one know's the common capabilities of this little tool, cutting, carving, sanding, grinding, etc, etc, but there are more.
I have had and used this tool for a year now and have had zero problems with it. I too wish I could find some finer sanding tubes, up to 220 would be nice, but I have made some using a worn out tube, 220 paper and super glue. Not a glamorous looking device but it works. When using the stones to polish wood they do clog up, just touch them to a rubber sanding wheel cleaner and they clean right up. I made blocks to hold all the differant attachments, and the case sits in one of the bins under my worktable. I am very happy with this tool and would recommend it to anyone for light, tight work. ... Read more

Little Heater is a Big help!
This heater has a small footprint and doesn't take up much space.It is working great in our garage as a supplement to our electric heater.It is nice and toasty up close to it, and it warms our 2 car garage up slowly to a decent level to do woodworking.It is perfect because my second electric heater was tripping the circuit breaker whenever I used power tools.

The only thing to remember is to keep it away from the sawdust!I like it so much, we're buying another one, so we can ditch the other electric heater.(I'm tired of tripping on cords!)

Reply about Lack of filter ruined my heater.
When I pulled my heater out to use it the pilot wouldn't light. I diagnosed my problem to be the regulator, not the control valve. The guy's statement about using a trap (filter) for 20lb tanks is incorrect.If what he said was true why isn't there a trap (filter) on every gas grill, outdoor heater, and any other appliance that normally uses a propane tank other than the 1lb tank? The reason for the trap (filter) is when the gas supply is delivered by iron pipe. Initially the pipe has oil inside it due to the manufacturing process and to prevent it from rusting before it is put into use. The viscosity of the oil is heavy so the trap (filter) collects this oil and later any scale that may occur from the inside surface of the pipe. Without the trap (filter) the oil or particles of scale could end up in the control valve preventing it from operating properly. If you use copper lines or a rubber gas line there isn't any need for a trap(filter).

About filters....
The mention of filters that I saw was a recommedation for a TRAP, not a filter, as it was called. It is common in professionally installed propane appliances to have a trap. I haven't ever seen a trap used on a portable appliance. The trap is essentially a pipe "T" with a short section of pipe going down, terminated by a cap. The other side of the "T" goes up to the appliance.The trap allows chunks of debris fall into it; it is in no way a filter. ... Read more

I recommend paying extra for better
I used to do all of my ratteting and dado cutting with various size straight/rabbet router bits and a homemade jig/guide fence system.I figured I'd bite the bullet and buy a dado blade.After doing some research and getting over the sticker shock of the average $200-$250 price range for most dado sets, I figured that I go for the SD208 for only $90.I figured that since it is from Freud, it can't be all that bad, no matter how much cheaper it is than the other models.Overall, I think the SD208 is a good buy COMPARED to all of the other dado sets and their prices of 2-3 times more than the SD208.More specifically, here are my thoughts:

POSITIVE:

1) The storage/carrying case is great.Durable plastic with an arbor-like post to mount the blades on.

2)Price.As I said, this blade is a comparatively good deal compared to other sets in the $200-$250 price range.

3)Shims are included.From what I've been told, some sets don't include shims.I can't verify that, but this set does indeed include shims.I believe there are 5-7 differenly sized shims.

NEGATIVES

1)My biggest gripe with this set is that the bottom of the cuts are far from being flat.Whether using the outerblades by themselves, or using them with different configurations of chippers, each cut bottom has multiple ridges/blade marks.

2)Shims aren't size labeled.Freud gives a great little chart showing what size chippers and shims are needed for differentcuts.However, the shims aren't labeled at all.They are merely blank circular cuts of metal.However, as any woodworker knows, you should always run your own test cuts for any job...so I'm in no way livid with Freud.It would just be a little nicety if they could label the shims.

As I said, I think the SD208 set is comparatively a great blade for its price, when viewd against other sets.However, I would recommend not skimping on price and upgraded to one of the higher-end Freuds or a Forrest set.

Try to get it sharpened
I run a small woodworking shop and I purchased the Dial-A-Width Dado.I think it is a great dado, but it has a -12 degree grind on it.Every sharpening shop in Denver cannot sharpen it without buying an expensive computer program for their machines and they will not buy it unless they can make enough off the sharpening to pay for it.I called Freud about having them sharpen it and they said they are not in the sharpening business.Buyer beware. ... Tool good./Rebate sucks
The tool runs smooth and quietly. Minimal vibration. Lining up pulleys is a pain as others have noted. The motor moves in two different planes during adjustment. This is typical of numerous machine motor mounts. The fence and tables came from the factory well adjusted. I haven't had to fool with them. It has given me good quality joints.
Can't help but touch on the rebate. After weeks, I received notice that I had to resubmit because I hadn't sent everything in. NOT true. I resubmitted. It took over 4 months to get the $100 rebate. I am now going through the same thing with the rebate on the X5 bandsaw. The free tools came through in a reasonable length of time. Delta just doesn't like to part with their money.

A good tool.
I purchased the 37-275X jointer September 2004 (and received it then also).I have used it making:a bedside table (with drawers and a shelf) of oak, a coffee table with an oak top and poplar legs, and a cherry pedestal.This tool helped me make my stock have a flat face and an edge perpendicular to that face.My glue-ups have been of excellent quality since using this tool.

Set up of the tool was easy.The pulleys were aligned by Delta, and I did not have to re-position the motor. (Several other reviewers of delta jointers complained about these two aspects of the setup.)

I have had problems with dust collection (like several other reviewers).I found that the dust collection had a sheet metal duct to drop the dust and shavings from the cutters to a dust collection port on the side of the unit.Savings had clogged the inlet to that duct.I poked my shop vac hose up the duct and removed the clog.After that I found that my DC was able to collect the dust.

I have had no problem with the bed or fence rusting.I wax them with furniture polish, now and again when the bed is no longer slick.

When I purchased the unit Delta was running a promotion to give you a free tool.I choose the mobility base.My shop is in my garage.I get a car's worth of space plus some extra wall space.I find the tool with the base easy to store, and roll out and use on my projects. I would rather have an 8" jointer, but lack the space for it.This is a good sturdy tool.I enjoy using it.I think it will work for many years.

Satisfied Hobbyist
I bought the 37-275X in January of 2004 through Amazon.Thought I would get some use out of the tool before I reviewed it.Overall I've been quite satisfied with the jointer for the past year.I read lots of reviews in magazines and on Amazon and finally settled on the 275X because of features, price, and warranty.I am not loyal to any specific company.I go for the best tool for the price.

After placing my order the tool arrived within 8 days.It came covered in the protective grease.I guess this is a good thing but it took longer to clean it off then to put the tool together.The only troubles encountered was aligning the pulleys (as mentioned by other reviews).The fence required no alignment but all three blades took a little adjusting as did the outfeed table. The paint and finish on my machine was just fine.I opted for the mobile base as the "free" gift.It was on back order and took 5 or 6 weeks to get here.Delta was nice enough to send me a notice with a small gift certificate to swollow the long arrival time.I guess I'll let them slide this time.

As far as operation goes I've been quite content.I've used the machine on oak, purple heart, cedar, and pine. Plenty of times I've used the entire 6" of the knives for face jointing with no problem as long as you don't try to take too much off at once.I've joined many edges together that are flawless and beautiful.The machine is also more quiet than I expected.

The only problem I've had with the machine is the chip ejection system.As many other reviewers have said it is less than perfect but mine has not been as bad as some other reviewers.I've got it connected to a Jet 650cfm and still have a small amount of chips coming up and out onto the table.A little bit gets piled up under the stand but only enough to move the machine and vacuum the chips up once a month. I've never had the chips completely clog the system.

I did go through a short period of needing to align the table and knives constantly for two weeks (this was after owning it for about a month or two).This is my first jointer so I don't know if the problem was with me or the machine.Like I said it only lasted two weeks and now I haven't had to do any alignments for many months.Still a little puzzled on this one.

If I could do anything different it would be to buy the 8" jointer but this was not financially pracitical for a hobbyist. Overall, I'm happy with this machine.A few minor problems and nothing else to compare the jointer with is the reason for the 4 star rating (I reserve a 5 star for complete perfection). ... Read more

X5 Unisaw
This is my first real table saw.I have run my dad's old Craftsman, various other neighbors saws, and I have a little 8" benchtop Makita.I always seemed to get by with a circular saw and a straight edge.

After deciding to build my own bathroom cabinet with my existing tools, I decided it was high time to get my own table saw.I researched the options and decided on several requirements.1)A stable heavy shop saw (not portable), 2)Must have a sturdy reliable fence, 3)Powerful enough to cut anything I put on the table, 4)A table that will support large sheets and extended rip capacity.The Unisaw is the one !!If I couldn't get these specs, I figured I might as well continue with my old circular saw.I think I also received an extra bonus spec.This saw will likely last a few lifetimes and will be able to be passed down to my son.

The electrical motor is a 3 Hp WEG model.It spins up to speed quickly like a turbine on a mission.The saw runs quiet and smooth that belies the impressive power of the machine.A table saw is a tool that commands respect and safety at all times.The magnetic switch includes a lockout hole through the ON button, which I plan to padlock to prevent unauthorized use and injury.I had to adjust the belt tension which is not mentioned in the assembly portion of the manual.I noticed the unit was shipped with the belts loose and found the proper section regarding the adjustment.

The fence and extension table is very solid.I can throw a sheet of plywood on the table, set the fence and rip to the correct dimension right down to a 1/64".I recommend the mobile base unless you have a dedicated place in your shop where it will NEVER be moved.It's heavy and is part of the power of the saw.

I found the assembly took 4 - 6 hrs to tinker along and get everything set right.I recommend setting aside the time to go through all the steps and get it setup properly.I found it necessary to shim the cast extensions wings to get them to bolt up flat to the main table.I had a steel shim kit available.I ended up shimming the bottom edge of the right hand extension about .008 - .010 to bring it exactly flat to my 4 foot level.I don't think this is a defect.All mechanical assemblies require some minor adjustment and care to get it right.I suppose the only way around this is to order a saw delivered and assembled to a blueprint specification.The price would reflect this requirement.

The extension table had a 1/8" - 1"4 cup in the center.I simply bolted each end after checking level to the cast table and then clamped the table flat to the steel frame.Then I drilled and bolted the table in place.This flattened the table properly.The table support legs have to be measured and fitted for the mobile base.I added a strip of support wood underneath to attach the legs.This should have been addressed by Delta / Biesemeyer in the construction.An easy fix though.

The extension wings do not have a bevel on the leading edge to match the main table.Those edges can be hard on a knuckle.I might file or grind my down a bit to alleviate this problem.The finish on the cast table top is excellent.

I checked and adjusted the saw stops for the angle adjustment.I found I needed to adjust the 90 and 45 degree stops a few turns to get a proper angle according to my square.The 45 degree stop bolt is difficult to adjust and tighten.I finally torqued it down by reaching inside the cabinet and around the motor to reach the nut.I could not properly do it from the front per the directions.Luckily, this should never have to be adjusted often.

The final word is: A great heavy saw for anyone looking for a shop rated machine.It makes the contractor style saws look like a toy.The X5 promotions make for a good deal.The saw components appear to be heavy duty and industrial rated to last many years.They have built these for about 60 years and it is the design standard that many saws are compared to. If a cabinet saw is on your wish list, I can recommend this one as a quality unit.

Great saw but fence parts are unavaliable at website.
The Delta Unisaw is not what it used to be but it is still one of the better choices on the market.The base is no longer cast iron.The "fit and finish" could be better but compared to most of the imports it is still the best choice.
Buying parts for the fence is a problem.The Biesemeyer website does not contain any parts.It seems that if one breaks a part,he or she will have to replace the whole fence.
Some might argue that the parts are available by special order at local dealers.My only comment is, "Why make it hard to get parts?"

Unasaw Quality
I am impressed with this saw, but if a less than perfect is out there to be sold, I'm the guy who will buy it. I took great pains to express my desire for a saw with a flat cast iron top and wings. Both wings on my saw will need fine tuning and the right wing is cupped front to back. I called the store and they responded with "I wounder if there is a saw out there flat enough for you" and" I have never seen it before, did you check our store desplay?". I think a visible problem not requiring a machinest straight edge to detect is real enough. So I get a bad saw. Then I get insulted. Buy the way the saw top is resonable, but not perfectally flat per my precision straight edge. Yes I was low keyed about the problem. I wounder, if $1800.00 is not enough for a perfect saw out of the box, what is? Maby I should have bought a Jet and just anticipated these things, but no. I bought locally in SLC! ... Read more

Don't leave the bedroom without it
I have had the wave for years now, and I have finally worn it down to where I need to get a new one.This thing has been at my side and provided me with countless experiences of being able to fix something ON THE SPOT.The weight is not too heavy at all for me. The scissors work great (I have even cut stainless steel shim with them).The pliers have been used for numerous fixes and the jaws of mine have finally worn smooth.The wire cutters have worked great.The hard wire cutter has never failed me unless I am trying to cut steel cable (a difficult task for any pair of plier-like cutters), but even then I can still manage to do it.The screwdrives have been abused yet still function very well.The blades accept a good sharpening and last for a good while after sharpening.The file is bar-none the BEST file on any multi-tool I have ever seen, and is better than most dedicated files I have used.The diamond file is spectacular.The single-handed blade opening and single-handed plier opening are features I have come to depend on.This is just a great tool that allows me to GET MORE DONE!The leather sheath is also very rugged yet quickly became supple and remains a durable home for this tool.
No, it's not the perfect tool for any one specific task, but it is a very useful tool nonetheless and serves it's purpose without fail.I am amazed mine has lasted as long as it has considering how often I use it, which is pretty much every single day.If I am wearing pants or shorts with a belt, then I have my leatherman.The only nuisance is I have to remember to pack it in my luggage prior to flying!
Worth every penny, and then some.

A nice try with room for improvement
I am a hunter, knife collector, long range bicycle rider, fisherman and construction worker. I have used a leatherman wave for the past 7 months. While it is by far the best multi tool I have ever seen, it most definitly not without it's faults. The biggest general problem is the tiny standard blade. It will cut paper and a few other things, but it's not suitable for large tasks. Another problem is the "wire stripper". This lousy feature is not much better, if any than a standard utility knife at stripping wire. Stripping wire like this simply wastes time. The well made scissors could easily be replaced by real wire strippers, or you could make the tool larger and fit both which would make this a far better device for those who use tools for a living. The final problem is a lack of a small phillips screw driver. This is a a very important tool which I hope will be included on future models. I personaly think leatherman would do well to make their tools fifty percent larger so they could include bigger blades, a real wire stripper and a much smaller philips screw driver. The wave is tiny and making it a little bigger would not really sacrafice portability. Even with it's problems this tool has served me well. If you have a need for such a tool the wave is the best out there. By the way, I never did get a tool adaptor so I don't know what to tell you about those. ... Read more

Great machine, when it isn't broken!
My machine arrived by FedX, and seemed to be in fine shape.I got it running in less than 30 minutes including cleaning the nice coat of oil from "wood touching surfaces." I got twelve mortises done, when the handle snapped off at the spring pin.I noticed two fine cracks on the outside edge of the spring pin hole when I assembed it, but assumed they were made that way.Looking back now, it appears that the spring pin was driven into the hole, and split the retainer.Well, anyway, on the thirteenth mortise the casting snapped in two places.I got on the phone to Delta, and they assured me that they would send out the piece, as soon as it became available--backorder.It seems they have had a run on this part.
The machine does beautiful work, and it sure beats doing it by hand.A bit of clean-up with a chisel and the mortises will be as perfect as can be.My project will have to wait until the part comes in.At least I won't have to send the whole machine in for repair.

Another Broken in Shipping
I know some people think one should rate the machine and not the shipping, but, if over 30% of the people that order this tool receive a broken one do to shipping, I think it is safe to assume that in the total manufacturing process of this tool inclusive of Packaging, this tool is failing the final step.So, I give it a three.This is with the assumption that I would love the tool if it wasn't broke.

At least after reading many of the reviews, the first thing I did was examine the machine well prior to removing it from the box.I noticed the crack before I ever took it out.

If you order this machine, be prepared to receive a broken unit.The price and free freight may be enough to give it a shot.It was for me.Hope the next one is not broke.

Great small shop mortiser
I received this through Amazon without any of the shipping problems detailed in other reviews.This was setup and working in less than 30 minutes.The chisels I received with my mortiser seem of decent quality but no doubt I'll upgrade those in the future.Despite other users' reviews, I have not had any problems with the stock hold down.I've noticed that if I push it all the way down and then pull up on the very front lip of the hold down, it comes up to a perfect height so that it still rests on the stock but I'm still able to move it around under the hold down.I've only had the chisel grab the stock and not let go once and that was because I didn't use the hold down (oops).Great mortiser, cuts clean and easily.I do like the fact that the Delta mortiser is virtually all cast iron whereas similar products (Jet, Shop Fox) use the least amount of cast iron they can to get by. ... Great space saver
I have a small garage, and did not have enough space to store my 2 bikes.I recently purchased 2 of these, and problem solved.

This is a great product!My only advice to the manufacturer / installer would be to pre-drill a pilot hole for the wood screws because the phillips head stripped out too easy.I ended up getting some longer wood screws with a flat head (instead of phillips) and that worked better.

But overall, installation was a snap, and I am very satisfied with this product!

Do you have to pay extra for all of the required parts?And do you have to pay even more for the instructions?Amazon, what is wrong with your company?I would highly suggest not to buy anything from amazon that is suppose to come in more than one piece.This looks like a nice stand, however, right now it is just a big paperweight as I can't even mount the saw to the stand.Do yourself a favor, buy elsewhere!

Delta is now Black&Decker
Being a profesional builder, I have used Delta products for years, they have been dependable tools. Recently I found out I could no longer get parts for my Delta tools because these parts are no longer being manufactured. Seeems that when Black & Decker bought out Delta, they decided not to provide any more service to existing Delta products. I've owned a few B&D tools before and can tell you they just don't last. I will not be buying B&D/Delta tools any longer.

Great once assembled.Fence may not work with 12" saws.
Now that it's assembled, I really like this thing.It's sturdy, easy to work, and easier for moving my 12" miter saw than it was to carry the saw in my arms.Best of all, once you drop the legs, the saw is ready to use -- no need to work from the floor or set-up a makeshift table or clamp the saw down or hassle with additional supports for long boards.

Mine arrived in good shape with all parts and instructions.The manual can also be downloaded from Amazon before you order.

The extension fence was a key reason for choosing this stand.It turns out that the fence cannot, normally, be used for larger saws such as my 12" DeWalt.(The cover of the manual shows two setups - one with a smaller saw and one with a larger saw - note the absence of the fence with the larger saw.)Aluminum supports are included that clamp across the top of the frame and bolt to the larger saws.Besides accommodating wider saws, the supports hang past the front and back of the frame to support deeper saws.The added depth requires that the saw be mounted toward the center of the frame so that the supports won't interfere with the wheels when the stand is folded.The trade-off is that it makes the mounting location for one of the fence brackets inaccessible.

Fortunately, my saw is no deeper than the frame.I used a hack saw to cut the aluminum supports to the depth of the frame so that I could mount the saw toward one end without interfering with the wheels.I managed to just clear the fence bracket location, but I still had to give up the clamp on the other side.This probably won't work if you have a sliding miter saw with a very deep base.(It's not so simple as just moving the saw to the end away from the wheels.)

Otherwise, there were a couple of spacing issues that were easily solved by using extra washers.I had to replace four self-threading screws that instead de-threaded, and I had to get four longer bolts after adding washers to raise the fence to the level of my saw base.

While not described in the manual, I was able to insert my own 12" x 14" tray under the fence.The frame has lips and predrilled holes to make this a simple addition. My shop vac fits neatly under the stand during use. ... Read more

Bosch builds good saws. This 10-inch sliding compound miter saw has the smooth, easy-to-control action we demand in a slider. This saw's built burly, too--here's a slider that looks likely to survive a tumble off the back of a pickup truck (not that we tested it). The blade guard has good action and retracts well, so visibility and motion aren't restricted when cutting and there's no danger of it binding or sticking. The grip is contoured and tapered for the human hand, no matter the size--but there is a safety switch that makes this saw difficult to use left-handed. Bosch has also cleverly mounted the important wrenches and keys on the body of the saw (exactly the sort of attention to detail that makes toolhounds happy). Bosch rocks
Personally, I think woodworkers around the country should trade in their power tools for credit and replace them all with Bosch.
I started using bosch tools over 12 years ago in a furniture shop, and my first experience with their tools was a jigsaw, which apparently has since reached legendary status.
This particular jigsaw was thoroughly abused every day for years.We'd burn through all the sears brand stuff, replacing them every few months, but the Bosch tools only needed the occasional cleaning and replacement blade.
I saw first hand the kind of torture Bosch tools could withstand and have been a devoted fan ever since.
In addtionl to the durabiltiy inherent in nearly ALL their tools, i've also found them to be highly ACCURATE, which is absolutely required when crafting furniture.
This particular tool carries on the long tradition of high quality, tough, accurate and well designed tools from bosch.
I'd give their tools 6 stars if i could.

You won't beat this deal!
I must admit I was worried about purchasing this saw, because it seemed to cheap (price) compared to comparable Dewalt, Porter Cable, makita saws.However, bosch makes great equipment, and they came through with this one as well.

After setting this up and testing it, I have to give it 5 stars simply because the price is unbelievable, and the saw performs flawlessly.There are a few minor things I would change if I could, but they are minimal and not very important, only matters of design, convenience, etc. see below.

One negative reviewer stated that the detents weren't adjustable, and couldn't believe Bosch would build a saw without adjustments.This is incorrect.In order to adjust the angles on a miter saw, you need to change the relative position of the detents to the fence.On some saws, like the Porter cable, you can move the detents.On others, such as this, you move the fence.(The detents are cast in position and can't be moved).My saw wasn't correct out of the box, so I followed the instructions and loosed the fence and squared it to the blade with a combination square.However, this was difficult to do, and it still ended up slightly out of adjustment when tested on a board.My advice, which made it a piece of cake:Pick a 12" piece of wood with a perfectly straight edge (I used MDF), make a cut, check the square, adjust the fence and retighten, make another cut, and continue until you are dead on square at 90 degrees.This method wasted a little bit of wood, but I got it adjusted dead on accurate in about 5 minutes, and no fumbling around with a square against the blade.

Once I got the 90 degree detent in position, I checked the others making 45 degree cuts in both directions on 6 inch material and the results were PERFECT.I mean dead on perfect.I can't imagine better miters.

Another reviewer said there was play in the detents of 1 degree or so.If you put it in a detent and don't tighten the knob, there is some play, but only like 1/4 degree or so, and if you tighten the knob as you are supposed to, the play is taken up and the blade centers on the detent dead on in the middle, same place everytime I try it.If used correctly, there is no play.

Other positive's:
-Comes with a quality 40 tooth blade.You don't have to buy a new blade to get good results with this saw.Most of the others come with a cheap blade that will cause tear out on your trim.
-Wrenches included for fence and blade, and mounted on the rear of the saw in convenient places.you'll never find yourself without the wrench you need.
-Adjustable slide on left end of saw gives you a little bit of extension in the table, about 4-5 inches.
-No upward kick with startup like my old delta saw, and what I hear from dewalt.I hated my old saw for that.I would line up the cut, and then when I hit start, the saw would kick and make my board jump, and I'd have to line it up again with the blade spinning.This saw doesn't do that, I'm happy to say.

Negatives:
-Dust collection isn't very effective, but I've never seen a miter saw that is.Seems average to me.
-Handle is vertical position.I would prefer horizontal like the dewalt, but I don't think it's worth paying the extra money.Then again, I don't make miter cuts all day everyday.
-Blade guard is a little too cautious in my opinion, and not adjustable.Guard stays pretty low to the table, so when you are lining up the cut, you have to have your eyes nearly level with the board to see your mark.In other words, the guard obstructs your view if you are looking from above the saw at all.Easy fix is to mount the saw in a high position, as most people do with miters anyway.However, if you put the saw on the floor temporarily to do a few quick cuts, this can be a real pain.

Overall, a lot of thought went into the design of this saw.It is well constructed, the quality you'd expect from bosch, and dead-on accurate.It does everything I would expect it to do and more, and at a price that I still can't believe.I had reservations before I bought it, but now I'm thrilled that I did.Thanks Bosch!

I couldn't have said it better
I was going to write a review of the Bessey cabinet clamps but I read what Alan Freedman said and I couldn't have said it better.So, to use Alan Freedman's comments (which I totally agree with)....

WHY YOU SHOULD BUY THEM: These are best clamps for squaring up a cabinet side/face frame ever. They work great standing up on a workbench. I consider them an invaluable part of my woodworking shop.

THE OTHER STUFF: These are not the end all. I still use my jorgenson clamps a lot. They apply point pressure (versus even pressure across the face of the clamp) which can be useful for truing up some jobs and clamping some irregular surfaces. The Bessey clamps are pretty heavy which can be ackward when clamping with one hand (and using the other hand to hold the project together).

THE BOTTOM LINE: You can never have too many clamps. I would not have less than a pair of the Bessey clamps in my shop. Four are better.

these are great clamps
My only complaint is the price, but you get your money's worth. I plan to pick up a few more of these sometime in the future. The faces give you square pressure against the stock, which I find really important for edge gluing and cabinet building. I keep a little pressure on the heads for storage. The one time I did not I rotated the clamp head vertically and the clamp body slid down pinching my hand on the way down.

When it's time to step up to a bigger router, Porter-Cable's 7518 should be on your list of contenders. It has as powerful a motor as you can find on a router and a reputation for accuracy and dependability. It's designed to work with bits as large as 4 inches in diameter and has electronic soft start and five speeds, to ensure that you'll be able to use those giant panel cutters safely and smoothly. The large bit capacity also makes it a great poor man's shaper when mounted on a good router table. Great for table AND handheld routing
Don't be afraid to take this thing out of the table and use it in your bare hands!

This things works fabulously, both in the table and in my hands.For the table, it's a no brainer... this thing rocks and, being Porter-cable, you will NEVER have a hard time finding accessories.It is the standard.

About the hand-held use though:It's big, but the handles are great, makes getting a good grip on it super-easy.In fact, it's the most comfy fit to my hands that I've found (though I have not tried the Milwaukee 3.25hp router).Also, the weight, solidity, and power of the thing makes it such that it doesn't jump around and jerk like my lighter 1 3/4 HP Dewalt.Between its weight and power, it's actually a fantastic hand router, and cuts any wood (as a previous poster stated) "like butter".

I've used it for fairly delicate, precision work in tight areas as well and the really big stuff.Heck, The only time I've even made a bit chirp was when I was using a 2" long, 1/2" flush trim bit on the full thickness of solid 1.75" alder, and I was "trimming" just about the full diameter of the bit... that was just plain stupid of me.The router barely seemed to notice... the bit, however... well, it's resting in "piece(s)".

I would not necessarily want it as my only router in the shop.If it were my only one, I'd go with a 2 1/4 hybrid, because there are definitely times you do need something more manuverable for light trim work.But, if you have the option to buy two (or already have one) having a small packaged 1 3/4hp (or even PC's little 7/8"hp deal) partnered with this one, then you have a near unbeatable routing setup.

Good for handheld work too
A lot of people have reviewed this router so I'll just add something new that I didn't see in other reviews.Many people are using this router primarily for router table work.I use it for handheld work too and find its considerable weight to be advantageous there, because it helps keep the router on top of the work. And it cuts like butter. Also the router's power seems to prevent the kind of sudden jumps that smaller motor routers are prone to.

The industry standard
If you don't like horsepower and beefiness, than you may want to buy something else.On the other hand, if you want the toughest, most powerful router you can get, than this ones for you. This router was designed to be used in a router table with big bits. I have owned this router for 9 years. disappointed
The 890 router is a fine, quiet machine.However, the grip-vac and plunge bases leave a lot to be desired.I have only found one type of router operation in which the dust removal functions adequately-template routing of dishes.All other operations, free hand or on a table less than 10% of chips and dust are removed.Additionally, the dust port on the plunge base is too small for any vacuum hose/fitting I can findand I finally rigged a dodge 318 bypass hose to facilitate connection to my shopvac.Since dust and chip management were my primary for selection of the 890, I am very unhappy with this purchase.Yard sale bound.Maybe I should have waited for the arrival of the new MLCS

Deficiencies
Overall, it's a fine system, and I'm glad I bought it.
However there are some astonishing design blunders:
1. On some of the plunge bases, the depth indicator is made of translucent plastic instead of transparent.This makes it impossible to read the depth indicator.
2. The spindle lock actuator on the plunge base is completely disfunctional.The motor unit cannot be brought down far enough to engage it.
3. With the dust shield in place, it's impossible to make above-the-table bit changes.Worse yet, with large bits, the entire unit must be removed from the table to change bits.Without the dust shield, above-the-table bit changes are quite easy; but you get a lot of dust sprayed around.

Very nice fixed base unit, OK plunge base unit
I bought this set mostly for use in a Bench Dog RT150 router table with the fixed base. Wanted the GripVac base for occasional "out of the box" use where the vac feature would be nice. The fixed base/motor work REALLY well in the RT150. The motor release and height adjust controls are very accessable through the cabinet door and the accessory top-side height adjust knob, though a free mail-in item, is not really needed. The only things you have to reach for are the speed control (easy), on/off (easy), and the collet lock (less easy, but tolerable). The motor is very quiet, the soft-start "way cool", and power more th
