Editorial Review

DeWalt packs it all into this 12-inch compound miter saw: the big blade, the double bevel, the double rail slide. Very impressive. Finish carpenters who want to miter crown molding (up to 5-1/4 inches) vertically and framers who demand a 12-inch crosscut capacity will love this saw's 12-inch blade. The double bevel, of course, means you flip the saw instead of the wood, a great feature for those working with long molding or in confined spaces. The saw bevels to 45 degrees both ways and has the ability to bevel up to 48 if the need arises. The double rail slide is definitely burlier than the old single rail design. Both rails slide on self-cleaning, dust-sealed bearings, too.

What really gets us is the weight and balance of this saw: it slides smoothly through cuts, bevels are easy to set, and the miter gauge swivels lightly (all of which speak to the saw's excellent design). You can miter 50 degrees left, 60 degrees right. We also appreciated the cam-lock miter gauge on this saw--the handle simply clamps down, which makes switching angles noticeably quicker than with a twist-lock miter.

DeWalt's D-handle is designed for right-handed use, but the trigger is big enough to use comfortably with your left hand if a particular cut requires it. The saw also has a depth-stop adjuster in case you have to cut a quick dado or two at the job site. The easy-to-read stainless-steel miter scale, with 11 positive stops allows you to lock in the most common angles quickly and, thanks to the cam-lock miter, it's also easy to dial in precise cuts just over or under the positive stop--a feature finish carpenters, in particular, will love. The electric blade stops the blade quickly, which saves time and makes work safer. The saw doesn't have a safety switch--which is fine by us, since some safety switches can be downright dangerous--but it's something to consider if you're doing residential or remodeling work where children might stumble across your tools. --Jon Groebner ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Face The Facts
DeWalt makes a great miter saw any way that you look at it.I know the non-conformists disagree, but face the facts, DeWalt miter saws are solid performers. I've owned my 12 inch slider for nearly three years, and it works perfectly.I purchased a stablemate stand for it and the two go together very nicely.I like the power it has and the accuracy is superb. If you do knock the alignment out, it is easy to adjust. While I wouldn't touch a DeWalt jig saw with a 10 foot pole, their miter saws are top-notch.If you are doing a lot of intricate millwork, I would also buy the DeWalt 10 inch miter saw for increased accuracy on smaller moldings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dependable and Powerful
I bought this saw a little over a year ago after researching between the different brands quite a bit. After over a year of almost daily use, I don't have a bad thing to say about this saw.Plenty of power, the only time I bogged it down is when using a dull blade.(Dulled the standard blade cutting laminate flooring)As far as weight, my saw doesn't move around much so this wasn't an issue for me.Cuts are always accurate, no adjustments were needed to my saw out of the box.Price is a little higher than some, but I feel it was well worth the money.I haven't broken a dewalt product yet.My 14.4V drill is 5 years old now, been dropped way too many times and still working like new. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great work tool
This calculator is the best for the price. It does it all with regard to finance and mortgage calculations. The directions are straight forward and simple. They explain almost all variations of problems and how to solve them. In no time you understand this unit well. I've worked with others and this one was recommended to me. I'm glad I listened.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Mortgage Qualifying
For merely calculating the monthly payment for a given loan amount, interest rate, and term, there are cheaper calculators that will do as well, although with one or two added keystrokes. But if you are a loan originator who needs to qualify borrowers and know what the front and back end ratios are, this calculator is simpler to use than the HP models I've seen. You can also store tax and insurance rates for quick p.i.t.i. calculations. This is a great little calculator at a reasonable price. It's the best kept secret in the mortgage industry.

Hook-and-loop abrasives on this sander will take off tons ofstock for you at 80 grit and leave a swirl-free finish at 120 to 150.Five dust-extraction holes in the pad pull the sawdust away and intothe dust-collection canister, which is big enough to let you work for along time without emptying it, but not so big that it's in the way. Youcan also connect it to your vacuum system. An easy thumb wheel controlsthe speed, which ranges from 5,000 to 12,000 orbits per minute. It'squiet and easy to handle. These features alone make it a great choice, but here's the smartest thing Porter-Cable did with this little gem: apad brake will immediately slow the revolutions to 400 per minute whenthe unit is lifted off the work surface. This helps prevent gaugingwhen you lift the sander off or place it back on the work surface. Thegrip is comfortable, even for those of us with smaller hands--you canhold it by the top or wrap your hand around it. Either way, it's agreat sander. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Coincidence or poor quality ?
I must start by saying that I know people who purchased Porter Cable random orbit sanders years ago that got good service out of them. However, in the past year every one I have seen has worn out within a month. I run a cabinet shop. four of my employees (skilled cabinet makers) bought new Porter Cable r.o. sanders last year. Every one of them either had a motor or bearing burn out within a month. Two of them were replaced by the dealer with new sanders, which also lasted about a month. The other two were not replaced because the bearings are not covered by the warranty. When I politely contacted Porter Cable about this, they said too bad, so sad. We have had great luck with Dewalt, Ridgid, and Bosch.

4-0 out of 5 stars sanding pad replacement
Have had the 333VS for about one year and am very satisfied with the sander's overall performance.Very aggressive at coarser grits yet silky smooth finishes using finer grits.Had to replace the sanding pad, P/N13909, after about 8-hours of operation as the pad would no longer hold sanding disks. The sander is used mostly on flat stock in preparation and finishing of furniture construction projects.Other than the machines weight, very little if any pressure is ever placed on the machine during operation.I know of only one other woodworker who has experienced the same pad problem.Have any of you woodworkers out ther experienced it?If so, please let me know if I'm the problem or the pad is.At ~$18.00/pad, it could get expensive if it is a recurring problem.I'll find out with my new replacement pad.Porter Cable informed me the pad should last approximately 25-30 hours under normal conditions. In spite of my problem, I'd still recommend purchasing the 333VS.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the quality the brand name and price make you expect
I thought I had ordered a premium product, but I returned it right away, as the quality didn't keep up with the price.
I really liked the idea of this dust container instead of these cloth bags elsewhere.
But for a price that is almost twice of other brands (you can also get a nice variable speed sander for $50-$70) I would expect flawless manufacturing quality. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Heavy Duty I think NOT
The DEWALT right angle drill works well but you need to take good care not to drop it.My DEWALT18V cordless right angle drill broke when I knocked it off my tool box.It was a 14" fall and I guess it just landed the wrong way. When I picked it up, it started rattling.I was thinking "NO WAY".I couldn't believe it.It was a 14" fall.I also have a Bosch 18V hammer drill which my neighbor accidently dropped on a hard concrete floor from the top of an 8 foot ladder. A few scratches but it still worked flawlessly.

5-0 out of 5 stars must have for a carpenter
this little drill is a workhorse. I bored a goood 15-20 1" holes a speedbor before it even got hot & even after that it didnt lose any torque or drain the battery. I wouldnt use it for real large jobs but if you need to drill 30-40 hole that aren't too large it easier to use this than to have to plug in a hole hawg and deal with the weight of one of those things

3-0 out of 5 stars Color yellow- lemon
This tool worked great forabout three months, then while driving a#10 sheet metal screw the trigger froze in the on position, smoke started coming out of the battery pack, the only way to stop it was to disconnect the battery. I'm a cabinetmaker and this is one of the better right angle drills I've owned, it's a bit heavy and the forward and reverse switch is hard to use. The batteries last a long time, I can be on the job all day without charging them, nice. The keyless chuck is one of the best I've used, I hope this is just one of those lemons you get every now and again because I was really begining to like this tool. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars nice clamps
I read the reviews on these clamps &there were several comments about the clamps breaking so I emailed Jorgensen & asked them is this true & what have you done to correct the situation. Their response was the early versions had cast aluminum heads to save weight & that they had switched to steel because the aluminum wasn't holding up. I've owned several of these for about a year now, none of which are made with aluminum, and haven't had a single problem. The issue with the clamps sticking together when closed can be resolved by backing the handle all the way out, pulling the handle straight up away from the bar & then pulling back. As is true with all clamps they aren't perfect for every situation. But these are the first clamps I reach for because they're so versatile & so easy to use. I own a lot of clamps & I'm a Jorgensen man. I have a few Besseys & they get used last. I don't think they're bad clamps I just prefer Jorgies. I do however think Jorgensen should have done a much better R & D job on the Cabinet Masters & quite frankly they flat out failed in this area. I expect better then that from an American institution. There was a time when Made in America was a good thing & Made in Japan, China or Taiwan wasn't. I hope Jorgensen will continue to be Made in America & more importantly I hope they've learned from their mistakes. I find these reviews very helpful & would like to thank the people who write them & I encourage anyone with an opinion on a product to put it in writing. Also Lee Valley has the best prices on Cabinet Masters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Clamps
I bought these two years ago for making some doors. I had always used pipe clamps for glue my doors before this, and had some problems with them not laying flat.

These clamps solved that problem. They are now the clamps I use first. I like that they are reversable, and have used them to support and adjust upper cabinets while they are being installed.

On some of the other sizes of this clamp there are some negative reviews about the quality, and also about receiving clamps stuck together with no way to open the jaws. I haven't had any problems with the quality, but 2 of the clamps did come stuck together. I was able to unlock them by taking a screw driver and levering the locking mechanism, no problem since.

I have never tried a bessey clamp, so I can't compare them, but these are great clamps. Hope to get some more in the future.

5-0 out of 5 stars Meet the new boss....
I own two of the Bessey K-body clamps at this same size (well, close - the 31" clamps) and would have rated them five stars. But I decided to give these clamps a try, and now the Besseys, though still excellent clamps, drop to four stars and the Jorgensens get a solid five. They have all the benefits of the K-body clamps, with some clever improvements. There is a very nicely designed clip at the end of the bar which can be removed to allow the movable jaw to be reversed to turn the clamp into a spreader. The clip also does double duty - it is the same height as the two jaws, so it stabilizes the end of the bar when the two jaws are close together (i. e., when you are clamping something small). With the Besseys, if you set the clamp on the floor and move the jaws close together, the unsupported end causes the clamp to tilt - the clip on the Jorgensens eliminates this minor annoyance. The jaw faces are considerably larger - this is a small advantage in length, but the extra width is really useful. You can lay the clamps on their side and still have useful clamping depth - not a lot, granted, but useful if you only need to clamp 3/4" or so, in which case you can put pressure on a much longer area. This would help in edge joining boards, for example. And the larger handle is more comfortable.
Jorgensen has the K-bodies beat in pretty much every feature. The Besseys are still most excellent clamps - I'm certainly not getting rid of mine, but my future purchases will be the Jorgensens.By the way, these comments are specifically about the 24" and 30" clamps that I actually own and have used, but I don't see why they wouldn't also be true of the other lengths. ... Bought two pairs of clamps to use for bookcase. Could not put the clamps on the corner that I want. It's to hard to put in 3/4" plywood and it leaves clamp marks on the corner. After having too much trouble to put in the plywood, returned it.

127. DEWALT DW077KDK 18-Volt Self-Leveling Rotary Laser Kit (Int/Ext)

Editorial Review

When leveling has to be laser precise, the DeWalt 18-volt self-leveling rotary laser kit gets the job done. Accurate to within 1/8 of an inch per 100 feet, the laser gives off a high-power beam visible up to 100 feet. An included digital laser detector increases the working range to a distance of 600 feet and helps when trying to locate the laser beam in bright-light conditions. The laser's rotary head offers four speeds. Slower speeds produce a brighter beam, while the higher-speed settings produce a more solid light. The kit is listed as a Class IIIA laser product and complies with all the corresponding requirements and regulations. A wall mount and built-in tripod and floor mounts make setting up the laser kit a breeze, while a protected rotary head and weatherproof design ensure indoor and outdoor durability for any job site. In addition to the digital laser detector, the kit includes a laser target card, which aids in locating and marking the laser beam as it crosses over the card. Magnets hold the card securely to ceiling track or steel studs for quickly determining both level and plumb positions. Red-tinted laser-enhancement glasses also improve laser beam visibility under bright-light conditions or over long distances. A wireless remote control makes one-person setup and operation pain-free and fast. --Carl Thress ... Read more

Features

  • Kit also includes construction tripod, a $99.99 value
  • Fully automatic horizontal and vertical self leveling
  • Out-of-level shutoff eliminates user error, ensures accuracy, and reduces set up time
  • Accurate to +/- 1/8 of an inch per 100 feet
  • Remote control operated scan mode creates a "laser chalkline" between two points

5-0 out of 5 stars DeWalt Finally got it Right!
I've tried a handful of other rotary lasers and they all had various problems, including the manually leveling DeWalt rotary laser.

But this unit has been working really nice. It is extremely accurate. The fit and finish is real nice, the unit sees to be very tough. You can use it horizontal and vertical, it also has a remote that works real nice. You can adjust the speed with the remote and make 360 degree circles or have it just scan back and forth over a specific area to make the line brighter.

I really like to fact that I can share the batteries with my other tools and I don't have to have spare D cells on hand. I also have the laser detector and that works nice as well, you would mostly use this outdoors when in bright sunlight.I would definitely recommend this tool.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not so great
My guess is that these reviews were all written by DeWalt's marketing department. The day after I bought this rotating laser, it stopped working, and I had to argue with the dealer to get it warrantied. In addition, I found it time consuming and not so simple to set up. I won't buy another laser from DeWalt.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a laser!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Portable Powerhouse
The specs say 15 Amps at 120 Volts. That gives 15x120=1800 watts. Divide by 745.7 (the number of watts per horsepower, by definition) and the result is about 2.414 horsepower. Apparently this "2-3/4 horsepower" machine makes about 0.336 horsepower out of thin air. That'll be great for on-site use (at reduced power) if no electricity is available. Gotta get one today!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Product
First let me say that if it is Dewalt, I want it! I purchased this compressor to use to fix my roof after the hurricanes this year and to build my new house in a few months. This unit is great! When they said it had a 15 second recovery time, they were not kidding. And it puts out the air. It is built well. It is a little heavy, but that is OK. It is also not too loud. Great product!

I used many compressors in 28 years of roofing. This is my 3rd emglow and 2nd dewalt. My first emglo lasted 12 years. My first dewalt is fine, I just needed another one because of expanding business. The only thing that was wrong with the first dewalt was the air regulator started leaking and had to be replaced. Other then that, it worked every day for two years so far, that with two or three roofing guns going which is like four framing guns and I did not notice it starving for air. This compressor is the best and durable for the Professional. ... Editorial Review

Since it tips the scales at just 66 pounds, it’s incredible that this little unit can output 2,800 watts. Not only that, but it’s a good deal quieter than other generators in its class. The inverter system with Pulse Width Modulation delivers such a stable voltage that you can run products with built-in microcomputers or microcomputer-controlled electric tools off this generator. A nice innovation is the "Economy Control" electrical governor: It matches engine speed to the electrical demand, so if you’re camping and just running a CD player, the engine downshifts to supply that much power, again reducing noise to about 60 decibels. Plug in something else, and power increases accordingly. Another nice feature is the Oil Watch warning system that shuts the unit down before the oil is low, and won't let you restart until oil is added. Because it’s light, compact, and quieter, this is the ideal generator to keep on hand at home for power outages and a smart buy for the job site, too.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

You have the first reviewer that complained about not being informed about the need for a transfer switch.Well, I hate to say it, but you don't NEED a transfer switch. You only need a transfer switch if you want to connect it to your home's breaker panel. You must do that regardless of generator in order to meet the latest code standards. You could just as easily run extension cords. They also mentioned about not knowing the NEMA code for the locking plug.Off the top of my head, I believe I was told it was a NEMA L5-30.Funny, I was able to get the information.A quick call to Yamaha would have answered the question.

Then you have the person that complained about the generator not being 240V.First, no where do the specs read that it outputs 240V; it only specifies 120V.Second, the NEMA L5-30 is only for 120V up to a maximum of 30 amps.Third, you could always hardwire a cable from the transfer switch to a male plug for the generator. That's just one solution . . . there are others.Fourth, I clearly read on the website that Amazon would not accept returns.

I would agree that providing a manual online would be nice, but dinging Amazon or Yamaha for an individual's failure to adequately research a purchase is not the fault of Amazon or Yamaha.I called Yamaha with questions and they gladly answered.

All I'm saying is be fair with your review.

1-0 out of 5 stars UPSET WITH AMAZON
I was not familiar with generators and read all the specifications and technical information on Amazon. I also went to the Yamaha web site. I knew that I needed a transfer box (which was built into my house). After receiving the generator in record time, I had my electrician try to install it. It WAS THE WRONG Voltage 115 vs 220. I called Amazon and was told that I could not return it. No where on the description web site does it tell you that you can't return or exchange it for the proper unit. Amazon needs to place in big print CANNOT BE RETURNED. The product never left the box. I am very unhappy about this and now have a $1400 boat anchor.

3-0 out of 5 stars The generator specs and looks are fine, but....
No where in Amazon's presentation of this item is the fact that you will need an "isolation switch," also called a "transfer switch" at some stores. This is a [$$] item that allows you to switch off the electric power line from your utility company while you are using the generator to feed power to your home. This protects utility workers from electrocution that could occur if you backfeed electricity into the power grid.It protects your home circuits and appliances from overload when the utility power comes back on.Neither Amazon nor Yamaha mentions the fact that the Yamaha generator requires a particular locking plug for the AC output, and does not provide the NEMA number that you have to match when buying the power cord taking power out of the Yamaha to your home's electrical supply input.Yamaha's manual is ridiculously inadequate about how to set up this device, though the details for maintenance and safety seem pretty thorough. But you have to be able to use it, and using it requires a frustrating process just to know what parts to buy.And then there's the cost of an electrician to install the isolation switch. No plug-'n-play here. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars It's almost too good to be true, but it is !
When I first looked at this I thought, "How can it know the exact corner?" But it does. When routing out a template guided area for example, leaving a rounded corner, you park this in the corner, one decent whack with the hammer, and to my surprise, a perfect corner. It is a very simple device. It's a 90 degree blade that slides along a very thin outer shell-guide.
No more chisel-chisel-chisel, and difficulty getting the exact angles. It works as advertised. Saves a lot of time, and does a superb job. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Gimmicks Here
If you've ever installed door hardware with square latches and latch plates in a house where all the doors arrive with radius mortising, you'll recall how much time you lost chiseling out every corner of every mortise.Buy this tool. It's cheap and simple to use and is definately not a gimmick.

4-0 out of 5 stars Corner chisel works great
After reading mixed reviews of the corner chisel I ordered one anyway.I am a contractor specializing in finish work and it seems like most of the door hardware I use lately is square cornered. The tool works good at cutting and it usually removes the chips at the same time.Sometimes you just have to lift the chips out of the corner after they are cut.The only drawback that I found was the striking surface is rounded and can cause the hammer so slip off after hitting it.But the corner gets chipped out anyway, (I just hit it with the flat side of my hammer). If I was doing production work I would probably modify it to give it a little bigger footprint for more stability, and a longer body for better grip, and a longer stike to keep the hammer away from your hand.Overall, for a pocket tool, it is well worth the cost.I wish that I had ordered one years ago. ... When it comes to power and versatility, the DeWalt DW983K-214.4-volt cordless drill/driver kit delivers. Powered by DeWalt'sexclusive XR battery packs, the DW983K-2 is a solid performer invirtually any environment. All-metal gearing and a metal gear caseensure the tool's ruggedness from top to bottom, while a third, fasterspeed (up to 1,800 rpm--a full 29 percent faster than comparable drills)allows the DW983K-2 to tackle many high-speed jobs that two-speeddrill/drivers can't handle nearly as effectively. The DW983K-2 is easyto operate, with clearly marked controls and a comfort-grip handledesigned to reduce fatigue. Couple that with a tighter bit grip andhigher torque (up to 400 in./lbs.), and it's easy to see why theDW983K-2 has quickly become such a popular choice with the pros.--Carl Thress ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not too bad
None of these cordless drills are the world's greatest tool. The batteries on these DeWalts only last 1-2 years. At the cost of a new battery, it only makes sense to buy a whole new drill kit. I stick with the DeWalt 14.4 because I own the trim saw, which unlike the drill, is a must have tool - mine has lasted 8 years, 3 drill kits, & 8 batteries.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool for a great price.
I purchased this drill for myself a year and a half ago and liked it so much I bought another for my son-in-law.He does not have a cordless drill, so I'm pretty sure he will like it since he does alot of home improvement jobs.It is a great price since I always seem to be able to take advantage of some special offer like $25.00 off all DeWalt tools, or some other offer when you spend $199 or more. The base price is about the same at Home Depot, but you have to pay taxes and no "money off" special offers there!

1-0 out of 5 stars DeWalt Doesn't Give Any Service
Great looking Drill/Driver!!I bought this unit to install some hardibacker boards for a tile job, and I thought I needed the high ft/lbs of torque. After putting down about twelve sheets of hardibacker and screwing them to the floor, the adjustable clutch went out.FAILED to work.Sent it right back to DeWalt where they looked at it and sent it back unrepaired.I sent it back 2 more times and each time they returned the unit without repairing it.Numerous phone calls to DeWalt to no avail. Finally it got beyond the warranty and they said they would charge me to look at it one more time.I bought a Porter Cable Drill Driver and finished the floor without incident.
It's too bad that DeWalt spends all their money marketing their products and very little on giving good customer service. They could have made this a positive experience, instead they screwed a good customer. I WILL NEVER BUY DEWALT PRODUCTS AGAIN!! ... Read more

Jet's 12-inch band saw is an affordable machine that would make a great addition to any home workshop. The saw features a fully enclosed, 1/2-horsepower induction motor with a V-belt drive system that turns 2,750 sfpm and has heavy-duty cast-iron and steel components. Parts are well finished and the saw suffers little vibration. It boasts a 6-inch-high and 12-inch-wide cutting capacity, which is more than adequate for a saw of this price and size. The saw comes with an open-base stand that isn't as sturdy as the closed stands featured on larger models but is fine for this smaller-application saw. The saw uses 82-inch blades from 1/8 to 1/2 inch and features the same V-groove guide and steel blade locks found on higher-end Jet saws. The 14-by-14-inch tilting table provides ample work space with plenty of room in front of the blade. We like that the industrial start/stop switch is designed to fit a padlock that helps prevent accidental start-up and discourages unauthorized use of your saw. It comes prewired for 115-volt outlets and is quick to set up. --Justin Paul ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Think twice before you buy...
I recently ordered this bandsaw from Amazon (Tool Crib) for use in my growing collection of woodworking tools. Since my jointer has a max capacity of 6", I couldn't see much need for a bandsaw with a resaw capacity higher than 6". This 12" bandsaw has a max capacity of 6" for resawing.

First the good stuff. The item arrived in excellent condition and when promised. It was well packed and the assembly instructions were simple to follow. The finish is excellent and the adjustments were very easy to make.

Now my concerns: There was a significant amount of vibration when running this saw. I was able to bring the vibration down by making some adjustments to the tracking and the tension on the blade, but I could never get past the feeling that one of the wheels was out of balance. This is really the only complaint I have regarding the performance of the saw however I do want to make an observation.

As I mentioned above I purchased this saw for woodworking and I suppose that if I hadn't been so underwhelmed by the vibration it might have worked fine. But even without the vibration issue, knowing what I know now, I might still stay away from this saw.

Bandsaws, for woodworking at least, seem to fall in to two catagories: hobbiest and woodworking. The hobbiest versions are those small ones that you see sitting on the work bench being used for cutting small pieces of plywood or flat boards. Woodworking versions are the ones you see standing on the floor that are able to do all the flat cutting as well as resawing (to some extent at least).

This saw seems be in the gray zone between hobbiest and woodworker and I don't know if it really comes up to snuff at either. It's more than a hobbiest might need (for size alone) but not really enough for even the semi-serious woodworker. It just doesn't have the "gravity" that I want a machine like this to have.

So, I am sending mine back and having to pick up the return shipping to boot. Not that I blame Amazon. I should have listened to that little voice urging me to spend a bit more. Oh well, hopefully someone can benefit from this review and I can consider this a lesson learned.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a nice saw for the small shop
First band saw for me. Very nice fit and finish, easy to adjust. Plenty of power with no noticable vibration. This saw has a fairly small footprint if you're tight on space, it's very convenient on a mobile base. I installed Cool Blocks on the upper and lower blade-guides and purchased additional blades. Resawed 6" walnut with great success, separated a series of small trim pieces from each other deftly, and cut curves in MDF to make bending-forms. Very pleased with the tool.

Dust collection is a must (a shop-vac works), and a magnetically attached work light is a big help. I wish the tool had been supplied with a rip fence and miter guide. I will probably purchase these two things since I'm tired of clamping wooden fences on the table (although this gets the job done). The stand is fairly lightweight, but is sufficiently stable on the mobile base. The saw is nice and solid and is probably all the tool I will ever need for my amateur furniture-making adventures.

5-0 out of 5 stars Only way to go..
I've had my DW746 a couple of years now and mounted the cast iron wings as soon as I could get them after the initial purchase. The purchase price does seem a little high, but you will not regret the expenditure. Besides assuring you a flat, level playing field, the wings provide the extra weight that makes the saw more stable, and even further dampens the little vibration this saw creates. The fit and finish are very nice, and install is pretty simple and straight forward. Recommend two sets of hands for this job. I check my wings periodically, usually when I do my regular maintenance to the saw, for level and flush to the table, and they have never moved since installation. I clean them with a med grit sanding sponge, wipe em with denaturedalcohol and apply a coat of Top Cote a couple times a year. This is a great addition to an already great saw.
Highly recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Its not easy money to spend, but spend it anyway...
I have had the DeWalt 746 for a few months now, and I have been slowly adding accessories as I needed/could afford them. With a router table wing mounted on the left side, I chose to go ahead and put this wing on the right.

The wing shipped in good time and arrived undamaged.I was able to unpack and install it properly in about 25 minutes.Leveling it was not hard- in fact I was able to mount it by myself. The surface is blemish free and flat (within acceptable tolerances). No cast iron is "perfectly" flat", and neither the DeWalt saw table or this wing are either, but they are within a few thousandths...

Basically what I am saying is that this wing is worth buying. If you are like me and you are buying it after the fact, it will be hard to justufy spending the money when you could just get by with the steel wing, but then who wants to "just get by"?

Buy it, you won't regret it ever.

5-0 out of 5 stars Run, don't walk, to get this
The DW 7462 is a great saw except for three bum parts: the miter guage, the aluminum wings, and the plastic throat. You are going to upgrade -- the only question is how much you will suffer first.

The wings are great. Easy to install, flat, and heavy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I can echo the positive reviews offered for this unit.
I'm extremely satisfied with this generator; it is amazingly quiet to run (we keep it secured in the truck bed and the cord reaches the power connection on our Airstream perfectly; the generator hums away and we're virtually unaware that it's running.) No complaints about what turned out to be a substantial wait for delivery - it's reasonable to expect a delay for a new product in high demand, both due to hurricane recovery needs at the time we ordered it and the fact that it's a great unit.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Great Machine!
This generator is state of the art. It is built like a good car or personal watercraft if you know what I mean. It looks good on the outside and when you open the service panels you can tell the quality. It is extremely quiet, clean/steady power and has built-in handles and wheels. The old saying "you get what you pay for" is definitely true here. I was buying the cheap $400-600 generators available everywhere and they would last six to twelve months. Buy this one and you won't be wasting your money as I did before I learned an expensive lesson. Most folks know Yamaha has become one of the names you can trust and this generator is no exception. I've even nicknamed mine "R2D2", pretty lame I know. :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camping Jenny
I don't know why some of you insist on reviewing the delivery practices of Amazon.com instead of the product. First I must ask if you remember the hurricane season of 2004 and the blackout up north before that.... It put a serious strain on Jenny suppliers in the entire country.

This is one of the best small Jennys I have ever used, and I have used several. I use it camping in the wilderness and run it for days on end. I used it to power my entire house (except AC) after hurricane Ivan knocked out power for a few days. Every time I go camping someone will stop and ask me about it. It is so quiet it draws attention. It starts and runs like a dream. I have had good luck with several Yamaha products, and this one is great too.I don't understand the other reviewer that had trouble with powering their AC, perhaps their AC has issues, mine powers my 15K BTU AC fine. The fuel economy is good and it will run for 12-14 hours without the AC on and about six with it on. I saw this unit at the RV super Show in Tampa yesterday and it had a show price several hundred higher than Amazon ... Read more

Freud's 6-inch professional dado set delivers a very smooth flat-bottomed groove. This stack, when used on table and radial-arm saws, cuts slots, grooves, dadoes, and rabbets in hardwood, softwood, or plywood with the same high level of finish quality. The blades are resharpenable. They've also been laser-cut and sport carbide tips. In addition, this stack has a feature that limits the amount of bite a tooth can take, reducing the risk of kickback--for this reason, in fact, Freud suggests this set for underpowered saws. We tested this stack along with Freud's 8-inch stack on our 3-horsepower Powermatic model 66 (plenty of power) and found the results satisfying: smooth, with very minimal splintering. Shims are also included in this set to help you microadjust your width. This stack is a great tool for the home hobbyist who prefers not to spend a lot of money but still wants quality results. --Dori Anvinson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Freud is top shelf in my book
Excellent tool with superb craftsmanship.Freud is top quality in my book.

3-0 out of 5 stars I recommend paying extra for better
I used to do all of my ratteting and dado cutting with various size straight/rabbet router bits and a homemade jig/guide fence system.I figured I'd bite the bullet and buy a dado blade. After doing some research and getting over the sticker shock of the average $200-$250 price range for most dado sets, I figured that I go for the SD208 for only $90.I figured that since it is from Freud, it can't be all that bad, no matter how much cheaper it is than the other models.Overall, I think the SD208 is a good buy COMPARED to all of the other dado sets and their prices of 2-3 times more than the SD208.More specifically, here are my thoughts:

POSITIVE:

1) The storage/carrying case is great.Durable plastic with an arbor-like post to mount the blades on.

2)Price.As I said, this blade is a comparatively good deal compared to other sets in the $200-$250 price range.

3)Shims are included. From what I've been told, some sets don't include shims.I can't verify that, but this set does indeed include shims.I believe there are 5-7 differenly sized shims.

NEGATIVES

1)My biggest gripe with this set is that the bottom of the cuts are far from being flat.Whether using the outerblades by themselves, or using them with different configurations of chippers, each cut bottom has multiple ridges/blade marks.

2)Shims aren't size labeled.Freud gives a great little chart showing what size chippers and shims are needed for differentcuts. However, the shims aren't labeled at all. They are merely blank circular cuts of metal. However, as any woodworker knows, you should always run your own test cuts for any job...so I'm in no way livid with Freud. It would just be a little nicety if they could label the shims.

As I said, I think the SD208 set is comparatively a great blade for its price, when viewd against other sets. However, I would recommend not skimping on price and upgraded to one of the higher-end Freuds or a Forrest set.

3-0 out of 5 stars Try to get it sharpened
I run a small woodworking shop and I purchased the Dial-A-Width Dado.I think it is a great dado, but it has a -12 degree grind on it.Every sharpening shop in Denver cannot sharpen it without buying an expensive computer program for their machines and they will not buy it unless they can make enough off the sharpening to pay for it.I called Freud about having them sharpen it and they said they are not in the sharpening business.Buyer beware. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars So far so good
I've had the unit for about a month. Several cabinet spray jobs were very nice.

Can't speak, as of yet, to the longevity of the unit, however it does appear and feel to be substantial in quality for the range of price.

Found a source for additional air cap kits, cups, misc parts well below those "aerospace toilet seat" prices ;)

The unit shipped without the wire cup holder, Wagner support suggested I go back to Amazon to "get it right"..... which Amazon did very nicely.

Manual, as mentioned, lacks "how-to/what-if" instructions, but most of the tools I buy have similar manuals... I just wish the Wagner website offered more.

I consider this sprayer a good addition to my stable of other solutions.

Only four stars for now... unit is still too new to rate endurance, the missing part...goes to Wagner's packing mishap, Amazon.... I'll give five stars on customer support.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good Product - Poor Product Support
I purchashed the 2600 from Amazon to use in my custom entertainment center cabinet business. Most of my finishes are of stained maple using stain and poyyurethane top coat.Out of the box this unit performed great for the first couple of times. I sprayed the stain with perfect control and blended the color perfectly. The poly finish coats went on smooth as silk. Over spry was a little more that I expected, but much less that the conventional syphon spray rig used previously.

I was very disappointed with the check valve which was difficult to clean and being small and delicate was easy to loose, which I did after about the forth cleaning.I installed a new tube and used it without the check valve for several weeks, but had to be careful not to tip the gun or overfill the cup or I got gobs of spray on the project.

I tried to get a replacement for the check valve, but all the listed parts dealers were mostly small lawn mower shops, and when I call them they said they no longer support the Wagner Product.

Last week I had a major failure with the turbine compressor and the motor burned up.I called the factory for support and they informed my they do not have any factory support, no longer make this unit and I had to call someone on the warranty list for help.Everyone on the list I called no longer support the product.Looks like I am "up the creek"

My advice is to pay a little more money and get a product that will perform, but can get support for the product. These things do weare and get damaged through normal use and product support is essential. I am experienced at spray applications, and although the product did perform extremly well for the price, without support it is worthless.Don't waste your money!

1-0 out of 5 stars Hope you don't need parts
This is a reasonably nice product with abysmal documentation. I've used it with several different materials with success.

However, I'm preparing to spray some waterborne lacquer and the product manufacturer suggested a 1mm tip diameter. So I went looking for one.

I spent a half hour searching the documentation and Wagner's multiple web sites for replacement tips. The standard tip is a #3, so a reasonable person would think there must be a #1 and #2, but noooo, #3 is it.Not only that, a replacement #3 tip is $32 and the air cap is $59!Not surprising I suppose when they charge $1.99 for a 5-cent lock washer.

I'm retired from aerospace and a $600 toilet seat is looking like a real bargain.

If it weren't for the aforementioned problems, I would probably give this unit 4 or 5 stars. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Jet variable speed is the way to go!!!
This lathe is a true workhorse. Danger....the variable speed option is very addicting!

5-0 out of 5 stars JML-1014VS/JML-1014 ... to variable speed or not...
I had the non-variable speed version, JML-1014, and was just getting used to changing speeds with the belts when an Amazon special happened; so I went for it.I still think the JML-1014 is a great machine and would be satisfied if that's all I had. In fact, I prefer it's on and off switch design to the JML-1014VS and the fact that it's on the right instead of the left. Also the AC motor might be more reliable than the DC in the long run, although I'm just guessing. But the variable speed feature is truly icing on the cake. Turning a knob, as opposed to changing a belt pulley, gives you the option to make minor changes in speed where you could not before. Also variable speed is real handy, for instance, when starting off with a square blank and then cranking up the speed after the part is rounded off. Or when changing speeds after cutting and going to sanding.
I think the JML-1014 comes up to speed a little faster, probably a function of the JML-1014VS speed electronics. The JML-1014VS seems slightly quieter, probably due to the fact that the JML-1014 has a fan cooled motor. Neither issue is very significant.
All in all, you can't go wrong with either the Jet JML-1014VS or JML-1014. They're both great.

Editorial Review

Long nails into hardwood? No problem. Working overhead? It's only 4.2 pounds. Hate having the exhaust in your face? Tool-free, 360-degree adjustment takes care of that. No time for jams? Clearing takes no more than a couple of seconds because of the quick-release nose. The magazine is made of nylon, but it seems as rugged to us as any metal magazine out there. That's also why this nailer is so easy on the hands. Add to that a nicely padded grip and a selective trigger and you'd think you have the perfect nailer. But get this—there's a built-in dust blower that clears light debris and dust from your workpiece. Hitachi quality leaves nothing to want.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Reliable and Tough as Nails
I've used this gun quite a bit and it hasn't misfired yet. It's simple to use and feels solid, made to last.Plenty of power too; sinks 2 1/2" nails into pressure treated fir with no problem. In white pine I had to back the pressure off to keep it from sinking them TOO deep! The air nozzle feature should be on every finish nailer. You'd be surprised how handy it is; no need to put the gun down to clear away the chips etc... that always seem to get in the way of a good fit.The only drawback I found is that you'll have to go to a good hardware store to find an air fitting for it.Once that's done it's the perfect finish nailer.

5-0 out of 5 stars great nailer
i bought this nailer several months ago.great finish gun.the little button near the top/side of the gun is an air blower.great to have available when doing base, to blow away the crumbs from falling plaster or debris that is in the way. just push and it blows it away, nice added feature that the others don't have. have had no problems and would recommend this highly
