Editorial Review

Accutire's new, deluxe digital tire gauge delivers precise tire pressure reading every time--and that's important. While manual tire gauges seem flimsy, sometimes stick, and can give inconsistent results, Accutire's digital gauge is a well-made, confidence-inspiring instrument. The Accutire also delivers impressive consistency: in our tests, we got within plus/minus 1/2 psi each time, something that's not likely to happen with a manual gauge. The Accutire's large back-lit LCD screen is easy to read, too, no matter if you're standing in pitch-black dark or in bright daylight. The gauge measures from 5 to 99 psi, in 1/2-pound increments, and automatically shuts itself off after you use it. Built with a rugged aluminum housing, a rubber nose, and tail guards, this gauge also comes with a handy steel side clip, in case you need to carry yours with you wherever you go. And when it's not in use, you can store the Accutire in its felt-lined, snap-shut case, so it won't get beat up rattling around in your glove box. Accutire's digital gauge costs more than a manual gauge, but with its lifetime lithium battery, it's going to last you a long, long time. --Jon Groebner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a sturdy and easy-to-use tire gauge
I bought this item back in May of 2001 for the two cars in my house. The tire gauge still works very well, and shows its readings in 0.5 psi increments. As advertised, the large digits are easy to read even in direct sunlight (I just verified that last week!).It works fine even as I'm nearing the fifth year of owning this handy item.It even looks brand-new because the case keeps it safe from scratches, dents, and dings that you are bound to get while it is stowed in the glovebox.

One thing that should be noted: people complained that it's hard to get a good seal to get a consistent and accurate reading.I bet it's because the tire's air nozzle was up or off to the side; I find that it's best when the nozzle is around the 6 or 7 o'clock position so that I can firmly press the gauge straight down. This means you have to crane your head a bit to read the digial measurement, but the important thing is to be able to press down straight & hard onto the tire's nozzle.

I've been using this gauge to check the tires more frequently since the season is changing, and also because I am on the road for longer periods of time. If not for anything, checking the air pressure makes me take a good and up-close look at the tires, and make sure that everything seems okay.At every check-up, this tire gauge was easy to use.I'd definitely buy this again, perhaps as a gift to someone who drives a lot, or as a replacement for myself if needed.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dead at just over a year old
In addition to the previously discussed problem of getting a good seal, I tried to use it the other day, and found it is totally dead. Replacing the button cells did not correct the problem. Seems the lithium battery failed prematurely. Considering the seal problem, I doubt I will bother to pay shipping & insurance to return it to the manufacturer for repair even if it is within the 5 year warranty.

1-0 out of 5 stars Obtaining Seal is Very Hard
I find it a struggle to get a good seal for proper measurement. My old fashioned mechanical gauge is much easier.
I regret my purchase, it was a complete waste of money. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Properly inflated tires are safer, more fuel-efficient, and enjoy a longer tread life than their improperly inflated counterparts. At the same time, traditional tire gauges are sometimes difficult to use, and their readings aren't always accurate. Enter the Accutire digital tire gauge. Accurate to within 0.5 psi, the Accutire digital tire gauge makes checking tire pressure a breeze. Featuring a rugged design, permanent lifetime lithium battery, and a factory-sealed power cell, this tire gauge is virtually maintenance free and safe to use in temperatures ranging from 0 to 100 degrees F. If problems ever do arise (as they sometimes do with any electronic device), they're nothing to worry about as Accutire offers a five-year warranty for added peace of mind. --Carl Thress ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Digital Gauge!
Before buying the Accutire MS-4020GB Digital Tire Gauge, I was using the typical manual gauge which wasn't giving me a precise measurement of the pressure in my tires. Now, with this gauge I can have a better lecture when I put air into my car tires. This is helpful since most of the times you need to have the recommended pressure on your tires according to the car or tire's manual. It has a nice hand grip, very easy to use and it measures pressure is in 0.5 psi incremental.I do recommend it for those out there who are looking for a more precise measurement, instead of using a manual gauge.I did in fact reviewed other digital gauges out there in the market, but I went for this one due to its low price and the manufacturer specifically makes measuring systems which gives you more confidence regarding support and other technical issues.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Recommended Due To Unacceptable Coupling
I recently purchased this tire gauge based on an evaluation I read by Consumers Report. The gauge in fact did not seal or engage the valve stem on any of the tires I tested tightly and had to be moved around too much to get an acceptable seal. For me, this makes this tire guage unacceptable.Additionally, the gauge is made of very light weight plastic and subsequently feels cheaply made.It is made in China or at least the one I recieved was labeled made in China. Also, if you are planning to order the gauge through Amazon, Amazon has classified the tire gauge under "Tools & Hardware" which means that if you return the item due to your dislike of how it performs, Amazon will charge you a handling charge (in fact)of $9+ in addition to postage. This return charge is the highest catagory Amazon now has listed. If you really want to buy the item, look locally, where you may be refunded all of your purchase charge without paying a high penalty charge.Be very careful ordering this type of item from Amazon.Amazon does make it costly for the consumer to return items and their communications is less than acceptable or does not answer the question asked.Buyer beware, especially when dealing with Amazon.

4-0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive assurance for obtaining optimum tire pressure
This product was purchased in the Fall of 2002...

Of the ten or so units on the display rack, two of the units' LCD readout turned on by itself when I squeezed the handle. The reading was 00.0.The units may have been dropped by other customers.Who knows.

Having checked all of the open box units (the newer shipments were sealed in plastic blister packages), I bought the one without the abnormal symptons. For comparison, I also bought a store brand Mastercraft Canadian Tire LCD digital unit for the same non-discounted price.Thank goodness for their generous refund policy at this store.

Tests were conducted on one cold tire. After 3 readings, the Accutire consistently read 30 psig (which was the recommended tire pressure for my car). The Canadian Tire unit consistently read 30.5 psig. The cheapest spring loaded stick-type tire gage consistently read 32 psig.

I can safely declare that either one of the Accutire and Canadian Tire gages are correct within 0.5 psig as specified. The stick-type gage is way off.

Pros;

1)Accurate to within 0.5 psig which is acceptable for safe and economical driving.
2)[cost less]
3)5 year warranty.
4)Aside from the occasional cleaning of the tip, and as long as you don't drop it; it's maintenance free.
5)Low temperature tolerable lithium battery.
6)For my hands, the unit has an ergonomically comfortable rubber-coated grip.
7)Air tight seal on all valves tested everytime.

Cons;

1)A bit chunky in size for compact storage inside the car.
2)It's an electronic equipment, so be delicate with it.
3)Not designed to be water resistant.

The unit has sat inside the car through one 2002 frosty southern Ontario winter, and several hot and humid 2003 summer days.No problems so far.

A valuable and value priced tool. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good value for the money!
I bought this gauge several years ago and it is still running fine. The gauge readings will go to .5 and this useful tool has never failed me.I find it works great on bike tires or just about anything. It's very light and sturdy, easy to carry. What is nice that it is light and can handle being dropped. Can it handle being run over like more expensive heavier models? No, but how often does that happen? This gauge is a good value for the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good, inexpensive digital tire gauge
I've used this exact model every couple weeks for the past 5 years. I see no reason to use a non-digital gauge when this one is so inexpensive. It gives you readings at .5 increments.
The only difference between this one and the more expensive ones is the housing. This one's cheap plastic, and probably can't stand up to the same amount of abuse as the other ones that have steel and rubber construction. On the upside, this one's much lighter.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, Inexpensive Digital Gauge
This is a good, easy to use digital tire gauge.(...)P>This is an okay quality product. (...)if you want the cheapest digital tire gauge, you won’t go wrong with this product. ... Read more
