Clean Air in a Dusty Woodturning Shop
I turn bowls and hollow forms on my lathe. During the sanding process, massive amounts of dust can be generated creating a large amount of airborne dust. The electrostatic filter in my Delta Air Cleaner traps this dust before it gets a chance to enter the air cleaner. It is easily removed from the unit and is a snap to clean. I've used disposable filters in the past which are either to thin or fill up with dust quickly and have to be discarded after only a short useful period. What was I thinking!
The concept of a charcoal filter clearing the air while using solvents sounds nice, but in practice it is ineffective and expensive. I used mine while working with contact cement and now the thing smells like contact cement. I suspect it is saturated, and without any way to purge it, is no longer any good. Additionally, while working I was much closer to the contact cement than was the filter, so whatever got to the filter had to pass by me first. Well, I also wore a charcoal filter mask and I think that is the way to go. You only filter what you breath and the filter is between the solvent and you--a much cheaper and effective solution. Good Filter, but there is a better alternative
I've used these filters and they perform well, but I have since switched to the electrostatic filter and like it much better.It is much easier to clean and seems to do a better job filtering as well.
