A Portable Powerhouse
The specs say 15 Amps at 120 Volts. That gives 15x120=1800 watts. Divide by 745.7 (the number of watts per horsepower, by definition) and the result is about 2.414 horsepower. Apparently this "2-3/4 horsepower" machine makes about 0.336 horsepower out of thin air. That'll be great for on-site use (at reduced power) if no electricity is available. Gotta get one today!

Wonderful Product
First let me say that if it is Dewalt, I want it! I purchased this compressor to use to fix my roof after the hurricanes this year and to build my new house in a few months. This unit is great! When they said it had a 15 second recovery time, they were not kidding. And it puts out the air. It is built well. It is a little heavy, but that is OK. It is also not too loud. Great product!

I used many compressors in 28 years of roofing. This is my 3rd emglow and 2nd dewalt. My first emglo lasted 12 years. My first dewalt is fine, I just needed another one because of expanding business. The only thing that was wrong with the first dewalt was the air regulator started leaking and had to be replaced. Other then that, it worked every day for two years so far,that with two or three roofing guns going which is like four framing guns and I did not notice it starving for air.This compressor is the best and durable for the Professional. ... Here's a compressor ready for the job site with the professional contractor. The oil-lubricated pump with cast iron cylinder gives you four cubic feet per minute at 90 psi, enough to run multiple tools off the dual universal couplers. It draws low amps, too, great for job-site conditions. The panel is protected between the two tanks, a feature we really like, and features large, easy-to-read gauges for tank pressure and regulated pressure, as well as the regulator and the two quick couplers. Built for the 21st Century!
The specs say 15 Amps at 115 Volts. That gives 15x115=1725 watts. Divide by 745.7 (the number of watts per horsepower, by definition) and the result is about 2.313 horsepower. Apparently this "2.7 horsepower" machine makes about 0.387 horsepower spontaneously. That'll be great for on-site use at (significantly) reduced power if no electricity is available. Gotta get one today!

A Big Disappointment
I bought this compressor for use in my home shop with the idea that it would also come in handy on some renovation projects that require portablity.When it arrived & I got it out of the box, I was very impressed with the solid construction & good design.Imagine my dismay when I cycled it to full pressure for the first time & heard a noticable hissing sound.I timed it, without any tools (or even a hose) attached & the compressor cycled after about 8 minutes.Examination of the area around the control panel revealed that the air was leaking from the regulator, exiting from a small hole in the regulator body.I contacted Amazon.com & they immediately offered to replace the compressor with another identical unit at no charge to me, including all shipping charges.The new compressor arrived at my front door before I could even get the old one shipped back (thank you Amazon.com for the outstanding customer service!).That same evening I got it unpacked, put in the oil & fired it up.The new unit had the exact same problem as the first one, only worse!!!It would only hold air for about 3-4 minutes before cycling.And again, I traced the problem back to a faulty regulator.Two in a row is enough for me -- for all I know, Amazon.com has a warehouse full of these defective units.On contacting them a second time, they agreed to take both units back & issue me a full refund.

Throughout this bad experience, Amazon.com has done everything possible to make it right for me.I am very much less impressed with DeWalt/Emglow quality assurance.It's pretty unbelievable that a problem this obvious wouldn't be caught at the factory.I won't have time to research & buy another compressor until after the Christmas holidays, but it's a safe bet that DeWalt is now at the bottom of my list.I'm very disappointed in a brand that I had come to associate with top quality & reliability.

A solid workhorse!
I researched many compressors before purchasing this one. What I liked about it the most was it was built to last!!! A solid steel roll cage frame, direct drive cast iron pump and it is oil lubed unlike the oil less Porter Cable that just burned up!!! But also sometimes it's the little things about a tool that make it a pleasure to use, like the ball drain valve that will empty the compressor in less than five seconds, a lot less noisy than my old pancake unit and a quality soft rubber cord. Sure a cord is a very small part of the overall tool, but i can't stand it when i spend hundreds of dollars of a tool and it comes with a cord that's impossible to wrap up when it's 30 degrees ( makes me wonder what other cheap parts are inside )One final thing i would like to add is this unit produces far less moisture than most similar units!!! I use a moisture filter on both of the quick disconnects and i'm sure the air running throught them is dry, especially for the oil less tools i have. ... Read more

Great Portable
Recovery time was very good when using a framing nailer. Using a blowgun for cleaning was ok. Acceptable noise level.Used on a 100' extention cord off a 15 amp circuit, with no problems. I'm very pleased with it. Looking forward to many years of use in my shop.

Just plain pleased
I use this with my Paslode; 16 Gauge and Framing nailers, I hang then trim doors, sometimes rebuild sills and headers. I also do various trim/frame carpentry on other projects.

If you are worried about changing the oil its only once a year!
If you are worried about operating on a slope, i have always found a flat spot to locate it in, even roofers leave theirs on the ground, just put on more hose. Who wants to carry this up a ladder anyway?!

I would never buy an air compressor without a user serviceable airfilter!

Best compact hands down.
This bad boy will do the work of a much larger compressor. It will easily run several guns on a framing crew or even a roofing crew. The HP rating is a little misleading compared to other compressors. 2 HP isn't max , it's continuous. I have one of these (Emglo 2HP) that's been abused and used hard for several years now with no problems ,only good dependable air. I highly recommend it. Impressed
This is a BOSS compressor. The 8 hp Honda engine fills the 17 gallon tank in a few minutes. Then it goes to a low idle. Both compressor and engine come ready to go. Just add gas and pull the cord. The unit is packaged so all you have to do is remove three bolts from the shipping pallet. No assembly! I've ordered a sandblaster to use with it. I can't wait! Rust, look out! Incredible cfm for weight!
I bought this compressor for use in heavy commercial construction. It is more portable than the wheelbarrow compressors and can be put in the back of a pickup truck (unit is no feather weight though --- about 70 lbs!) This compressor has the best of all features--- reliable Honda engine, reliable Emglo compressor, overbuilt protective frame and quality gauges and quick connects make this an outstanding compressor. In commercial work, there are usually several trades on site (electrician, plumber, HVAC) and all of these guys are using the same power source. Most compressors capable of running two frame nailers draw enough power that it will constantly trip the the breaker on a temporary service pole unless run on 240 volts.With the gasoline compressor, all you have to do is make sure it has fuel and start it up! No extension cords and no more tripped breakers! We have used this compressor to run two paslode frame nailers shooting down 5/8" plywood nailed every 3" around the perimeter (120 mph rating) and this little guy could amazingly keep up! The compressor isn't louder than the DeWalt electric counterpart when running and the Honda engine means it will run for many years to come. Would not recommend this one for strictly running a finish nailer because of the overkill factor. Go buy a lighter,less expensive compressor for the finish guns. This machine is meant to turn out a much more substantial amount of air!

The only downside to this compressor is the price and its weight. That is a lot of money to shell over for a machine that does nothing more than compress air! But, then again, would you really be reading this if all you needed was an average duty Lowe's variety compressor? And if you have a pickup, leave the unit in the back and let it run. After a full day of installing sheathing, it can be a chore to load this 70lb. compressor up.

This is why I rate it 4 versus 5 stars due to the cost and weight. It seems like they could have trimmed a few more pounds off the compressor and a few more dollars!

A total winner
This is without a doubt the best compressor I've ever used. The Dual Voltage and Dual controls are both features worth having and the quick recovery is exactly that. You won't have to sit around waiting.
It has been trouble free since I purchased.

Couldn't be better
This compressor is as strong as you need, it runs several guns at a time. I use to install wood flooring, wood framing, cabinet work and roofing work, for the short time that I have had it, it has performed flawlessly. The dual Voltage and the continuos run option is definately a plus, It draws hard on a 120 volt system but runs smooth on the 220 volt hookup. The recovery time is quick and you don't have to stand around and wait, like my old compressor. The norm for DeWalt Tools
I had a Porter Cable 4 Gal., 2H.P. Pancake compressor and just wasn't satisfied with the performance, especially since I was accustomed to the Quality and professional performance from DeWalt. The PC just wouldn't keep up with my work in my shop. I took it back and purchased the D55151 DeWalt and, of course, am satisfied again. Truly, DeWalt lives up to the advertisement, "Guaranteed Tough"! One can not go wrong purchasing this Compressor for shop or light commercial work. You may pay a little more but the quality built into every DeWalt tool I have makes it worth every penny!

I do various home repairs on my own home and on my rental properties.I needed a good quality air compressor for my nail guns and I purchased the Dewalt D55151.A framer friend of mine recommended the oil fil type as apposed to the oil-free version.I have had the compressor for about 2 months and so far it has performed better than I ever expected!
