2-0 out of 5 stars Not what it appears...
I use my grinder more for sharpening woodturning chisels than anything else.In sharpening those curved gouges, my grinding wheels get divots.

Before I purchased this wheel dresser, I had a round carbo stick that did a good job of removing material but still hard to get a flat square surface.

What you can't see from the picture is that this Delta wheel dresser has a square cross section and is coated with diamond "dust".

While this may seem like a good idea since it would flatten a tall area of grinding wheel at one time, it turns out to not work so well since the grinding wheel is moving so quickly.A thin line of material would be easier to manage as the inch tall cutting surface can be difficult to control (too much bite).

Also of note, the diamond coating on the one I recieved is not flat. There are highspots that leave tiny vertical grooves in my wheel -- especially the white friable wheel.

This is not so good as one typically uses a wheel dresser to remove grooves.

In general I'm dissapointed with this item.I'm not so sure it's better than the carbo stick I bough from sears.I think next time I'll try a wheel dresser from a specialty company like Lee Valley Tool instead a large generic tool manufacturer like Delta. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The first time you run a workpiece through this jointer, you'll know thesatisfaction that precision brings. You'll be surfacing pieces as wide as 6-1/8 inches witha maximum pass depth of 1/8 inch over a 2-1/2-inch, three-blade cutterhead. If you'veused a benchtop jointer in the past, you'll love stepping up to the JT360, with its 46-inchbed and 4-7/8-inch fence that tilts to 45 degrees--in and out--for beveling and chamfering.Positive stops are at 45 and 90 degrees. The bed is cast iron, and the infeed and outfeedtables operate smoothly on the gibbed dovetail ways. What's nice about moving up to thismodel is its 1/2-inch rabbeting capacity, perfect for picture frame moldings and lots ofother projects. We're even impressed with the stand's solid, wide footprint andcomfortable 33-inch height. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars good all around jointer
I began my search for a jointer at home depot, and after they made me angry i decided to go back to buying my tools here.At first i was weary about ordering machinery off the internet, but the experience was actually pretty pleasant.i went with 3 to 5 day shipping after hearing horror stories from people not getting thier stuff on time.my package arrived on time i was able to track it every step of the way and the best part was i didn'thave to make a claim on the package.

As for the jointer itself it's good enough for me and will probably last me a long time. It's heavy and is by no means cheaply made. It's acurate to within 1/32" and thats good enough for me.i set a good square on the fence and table and at the most i could probly only fit a sheet of paper under a couple areas. If this is good enough for me a carpenter apprentice and a rookie wood worker so it should suit all you homeowner/hobby enthusiasts out there. This unit though is certainly no homeowners special.

Setup took about three hours and a couple of tools(wrench set and a good shop ruler).Everything lined up close enough and i only had to rig a few things (very minor). The directions aren't great, but i managed and any semi-intelligent person could do the same. You are gonna need a buddy though, first to help get it off the truck and then to set a few things up.The jointers packaged weight is 250 pounds so make your own decision on how much help you need.

In the end though here is why i went with the delta. Final price after shipping was $334with the free $25 discount.Home depots' Ridgid was $400 with tax and i would rather have a brand name that's been around a while. As for Jets' similar jointer it just looks cheap.I hope this helps some of you and if you buy it like me you probably won't regret it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just as advertised
I am pleased with this new addition to my shop. The assembly instructions were easy to follow but you definitely need to wear disposable rubber gloves to protect yourself from the oily parts. All were rust free however. A socket set speeds final tightening. I had none of the problems noted in other reviews and I could not find this item at a lower price anywhere. Operation is quiet with little vibration. Perhaps a really serious woodworker can justify spending more but I think that I got just what I need.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool for the price
This is the third jointer I have owned. The first a small cheapie bench top model that worked ok just didn't have enough bed length. The second was a Shopsmith 4" that worked just fine.
But mounting it to the Shopsmith got old quick. Also the bed length came into play again for any boards over 2 feet or so.
This jointer is great for the price. Does everything I hoped it would. The fence and tables were dead-on right out of the box. Knife settings were also right on. All I really had to do was assemble it and square the fence. I have used it quite a bit in the last few weeks. It has performed flawlessly! Sure it is not as pretty as many others out there what with the open stand and all, but that doesn't mean this is jointer isn't a great value, it surly is that. Fit and finish were great. Not as much grease to clean as some of my other Delta tools and assembly was simple. Don't be afraid to save a few bucks and get this guy! You won't be sorry.
The shipping was through ABF freight systems. I was able to track it throughout the shipping process and got a call to arrange delivery. The driver backed down my long driveway, and unloaded the heavy package into my garage. I didn't have to do a thing other than signing for it. There were a few holes punched in the box and I was concerned about damage. After opening the box I was pleasantly surprised to find how well this jointer was packaged. No damage at all!I took all the parts down to my basement shop and assembled it to the point of mounting the jointer to the stand. I got some help carrying the jointer downstairs and sitting it on the stand. After finishing the mounting and squaring it up I put it to use. I was going to buy the Delta wheeled base but after assembly it was pretty easy to drag into place. I saved the $50 for the portable base as I only need to move it on rare occasions and that is easily accomplished just by dragging it into place. The dust chute works well for me. I din't hook up to a dust collector or even a shop vac. Instead I put a cardboard box on the floor and 90% of the chips fall in. So I empty the box twice a week into the garbage pail. No hassel and so simple.
I am very satisfied with this jointer and the shipping/delivery used. I would not hesitate to do it again if needed.
For ratings I give it an
A for quality
A for fit and finish
B for assembly (some bolts are hard to get at)
A for shipping
A for quietness
A+ for value.

3-0 out of 5 stars Three and a half stars!
Are these going to cut flawless holes in wood? No, but how many bits do.Are they going to last for years?Probably not.Are they a great value for the money spent?Yes.

I bought these because I didn't want to pay $85 for a good Freud set.For a beginner, a one time project, or a home woodworker on a budget, this is the perfect set to buy.Any set right out of the box will cut relatively cleanly, its how a bit performs on the 100th hole that tells the story.Obviously, a better carbide set would cut cleaner, longer, but since I could buy four of these sets for the price of the Freud, I still say these are money saved. They allow you to cut reasonable clean (not perfect), flat bottomed holes for less than 1/4 of the cost of a truly great set.Because they are not carbide, of course they will not last as long between sharpenings and ultimately have to be replaced sooner. But, for my needs as a home woodworker, buying this set allows me to get right to work without breaking the tool budget.

4-0 out of 5 stars worth the money
for the money these bits are a good buy . cut good , last as long as any other brand . they're not as pricey as carbide and won't last as long . but for a home shop they are the best buy you will find . i recommend them highly . ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great extension to enable bigger projects.
I just got this in and it's a really solid piece.I used Dennis' advice in another review to help align it, and it was setup in 5 minutes.(Thanks Dennis)You do have to prepare some extra space in the shop for it though, as when assembled it's pretty long, and disassembling/reassembling would be a pain.

I got it for free with the mail in rebate program they had last year, but even if I didn't get it then it'd be worth spending the money on now.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Extension, once you figure out the trick for alignment
If the paint color had been anywhere close to the color of my midi lathe, I might have given it 5 stars.

Also, I spent almost 45 minutes trying to get the darned thing aligned right. Then, when I thought I had it right, I tried to put the tailstock back on.It came to an abrupt halt at the connection point. Taking it back off and feeling the inside edge,I realized I had missed by less that a 64th of an inch. The positive thought was "Wow,the tailstock was sure machined for a nice, close tolerance, but what a pain to get aligned!"

Then it struck me,"Hey,why not use the tailstock as an alignment tool."So,I loosened the bolts, slid the tailstock to the midpoint of the intersection, tightened it up,bingo!Perfectly aligned!Do recheck with a dependable straight edge after re-tightening the bolts, though.

I highly recommend that Delta change their simple little,one-page instruction sheet to include that little tip.Turns a 45 minute task into a 2 minute job.And after all, some of us bought this configuration because of space considerations, and we are likely to set it up and take it apart several times a year!

4-0 out of 5 stars Delta Midi Lathe extension
The extension maximizes the usefulness of the lathe. The addition of a "tab" to align the extension with the bed of the lathe would improve the ease of attaching the extension. ... Read more

I just received this Delta Deluxe Miter Gauge #34-928. You wouldn't believe me if I told you how long ago I ordered it. I guess a fresh batch is in so order it quick. Now on to the item. When they say that it is accurate, the first thing I did, when I took it out of the box, was break out the Bosch Digital Protractor. It measures angles with a digital readout in tenths of a degree. (Equal to 3600 dots in a circle, no matter how small the circle) I put the miter gauge to the test. I clamped an aluminum level onto the face to extend the surface, and guess what? I got perfect readings after trying the detent stops, and even got the same results when I eyeballed a setting just using the pointer. It wasn't even off by a tenth of a degree.
At first I was confused, because some of the stops weren't right on the number, then I realized that they have stops at the popular detents, and some of those are in tenths of a degree.
Point number two is that I was impressed that the miter gauge bar that rides in your miter slot has little Allen bolts imbedded in it, so you can adjust it perfectly, to eliminate any play. When I put it in my Powermatic 66, it fit so perfectly, without any play, that I don't even need to fiddle with it. It is so snug that you would have to measure the play in thousandths of an inch, as in non-existent, yet it slides along the track like it was on greased wheels. It fit my Bench Dog miter track on their Router table extension for table saws the same way. The Might T track miter track guides had a little slop in it, but that is obviously the track and not the gauge. I guess you can tell where I will be using it. (Although the play is adjustable for any 3/4 x 3/8 track)
Point three is that the bottom of the gauge is polished so smooth that it will not scratch your saw tabletop. The front face of the gauge where you rest your work, looks like it was fine ground-polished with something like a 1000 grit wheel. You can see ultra-ultra fine lines going in a circle from where it was fine machined.
I strongly recommend that you also get Delta's clamp attachment that works with this gauge. The one that I bought is the 34-568 clamp assy, and it fits and works perfectly. Delta and Amazon feature the Delta cheapy miter gauge with the clamp as a combo package for about the same money as buying this Deluxe gauge and the 34-568 clamp assy as separate pieces. So for about the same money you are getting Delta's best, and in this example it is worthy of that title.
The gauge and clamp combo perfectly resolves the problem of when you are trying to cope the ends of your rails in a raised panel bit set. You know the problem, you have to hold that two-inch wide board and run the bit over the tip. Trying to get the bit to not move the board, by either pushing it a little away from the fence, or run into the second fence face causing a stop is a major accomplishment. Many use sleds with clamps on them, but then you are raising the work piece off of the table to make up for the sled base plate. With a router, that is a major consideration, because that oftentimes leads to having to raise the bit higher up out of the collar, causing more vibration and potentially a dangerous bit flying condition. This gauge and clamp combo locks it in just the same, but keeps the work piece flat against the tabletop. The other advantage to that is if you are running some larger pieces at the same time, you can do it by removing the gauge, and not have to change a bit setting. Wow! I'm getting off on this, I don't know about you. :-)
Another point is that the picture doesn't do it any justice. The fit, the finish, the accuracy of the deluxe gauge is better than any other miter gauge I have seen, even the one that came with the Powermatic saw. I can't recommend this high enough. Is it because it is a waxed Ferrari sitting in the garage? No, it is because it is as accurate and fine as a miter gauge can get. Buy one, you won't be sorry. Hope this helps.

4-0 out of 5 stars Does what it says it will do
The clamp goes on well and holds on to material securely. The only draw back is that the size that will fit in the miter clamp is limited by the rails securing the hold down.Really not a flaw, just an inconvenience.Amazing how Delta stuff fits so well on Delta products. ... Read more

I just received Delta's DELUXE Miter Gauge # 34-928 and as a separate item the Delta 34-568 Clamp Attachment. It's a marriage made in heaven. Not only does the clamp attachment work like it was made for it, (because it was, as well as in the 34-895K kit)but because the Deluxe Gauge is so well made. It goes for about the same money as the cheapy that comes with the kit, so why not buy them individually and go for the gold. Here is my review on the Deluxe setup.

3-0 out of 5 stars does what it says...but
it does what it is suppose to do.but, i regret my purchase.if you have some 1/2" stock laying around make your own and save the money.either jig saw or use a router and trim bit and make a copy of your original insert. get some set screws, tap the holes(for leveling) and you are set.i made mine in about 5 minutes out of mdf. works great and i can make more for different size dado setups.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dado insert doesn't fit
I purchased the insert with certainty from both Amazon.com and Delta that this is the right insert for my saw. There is only one problem, it is too large to fit in the saw.It is approximately 1/4" too long.In comparing it with the insert that came with the saw it is visibly larger. The only solution appears to be to grind it down as other reviewers have noted on the insert for the 8" Dado sets. While it can be done, it is disappointing for something that should simply drop in.

5-0 out of 5 stars Its an insert.
What can I say?I laughed. I cried.I cut dados. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Consider Another Grinder
I bought one of these to replace a Delta 6in grinder that was stolen a little over a year ago.The 8in grinder seemed like a deal.I do a lot of plane and chisel sharpening and wanted something that would dish out the cutting edge a little less. This it does. However it absolutely stinks otherwise.I bolted it to my bench and it vibrated so badly anything that is on the bench walks itself off no matter how heavy. Not only are the stones not round, but are out of true by at least 1/16 inch!Delta sent me new stones...same problem.I bought new stones...same problem...but less.It turns out that both the stones and the shaft wobble!Delta would not warranty the grinder unless I sent it to them and pay the shipping both ways! This was as much as the cost of the grinder..Not only that, but the clear spark gaurds had huge stickers on them, that when peeled off, left all their adhesive on the gaurd so you couldn't see through them. Water would not remove the adhesive and anything that could, dissolved the plastic as well. Delta sent me new ones...for a different grinder!Delta is off my list for tools as long as they keep having things made in China.I cant image what their other stuff made in China must be like and I'm not willing to take the chance. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great for smaller equipment
I've got to admit, I was a bit nervous ordering a unit this small.Advice from local shops suggested that 1/4hp was as small as you should consider... but the reviews here seemed good, so I gave it a try.

After assembling the unit, and attaching it to my Jet 1-1/2 HP Shaper, here are some comments:

- Delta 36-864 Versa-Feeder Mounting Base provided a much more rigid connection than I anticipated.I thought I would temporarily mount it with this base until I found the right spot to drill holes in my table top.I'm so pleased, I just may not drill the holes after all!

- Adjustment takes some getting used to.It certainly isn't as easy as the screws found on the larger (more expensive) units.I think I have mastered the art of 'tweaking' the unit with one hand, while tightening the clamping mechanisms with the other.

- Once properly positioned, the unit is very tight/rigid.It doesn't appear to flex too much, or fall out of position.

- Best of all, all 10 of my fingers are much safer now!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fair Deal
I was reluctant to purchase this because of previous reviews. But not being rich I took the chance.I got this feeder because of a large amount of flooring I needed to do.I used this feeder to resaw 214 - 8ft clear Douglas fir 2x4s on a bandsaw, and then making T&G flooring and paneling out of the parts using a climb cut on the shaper. This feeder performed without complaint.

I have also used it on the jointer with good results.

Setup is a little bothersome because the feeder has little weight of it own and must be preloaded so that the feed wheels will stay in contact with the stock. And it would have been nice if feed speed could be reduced below the 10 f/m.At 10 f/m the feeder will stall a 3hp shaper making a single deep cut in red oak, requiring multiple passes.

3-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
I commend Delta for offering an affordable stock feeder but unfortunately, for me, it failed to meet even my low expectations.I mounted it on an x-31 combination machine (table saw, jointer, shaper) and intended to use it as a finger-saver, especially for ripping narrow stock.Unfortunately, in order to position it correctly and maximise the extension, I had to reverse the mounting housing from the instructions, and the extension arm was still at the maximum. This allowed a bit too much "flex".And it wouldn't even reach my jointer.Another problem was the fact that I couldn't use it on narrow stock because my fence prevented it from coming down on the stock.Worst of all was the fact that the wheels just weren't "gummy" enough and when I did manage to adjust the arm correctly, (with as much down-force as I could get) it still didn't grip the stock well enough. One positive feature was the variable feed rate.

I ended up returning it.I would pay the extra money next time for a "standard" stock feeder with three-axis adjustment. ... Read more
