2-0 out of 5 stars Cost Way TOO Much
These are the same product and quality that you can buy from various sources, but these are 1/3 again as much!!

No matter whos' you buy expect to have to use some silicon to seal them up or they will leak mercilessly.

1-0 out of 5 stars What?No knob? JET must kidding!
About a year ago, I bought a bumch of these when I bought my first dust collector. They were equipped with a screw knob that is used to hold the gate open.

Well, I just bought a new oscillating spindle sander, so I also bought a new blastgate. JET changed the design! They now use a bolt instead of a knob.

This change must be one of the dumbest ideas ever. The purpose of a blastgate is so that you can EASILY divert air flows. Changing to a 1/4" boltmakes it nearly impossible to open and clase the blastgates. If you have arthritis, you need to get a wrench to open the blastgate.

So, I replaced the bolt with a knob that I had lying around the shop.

Note that currently the picture shows the bolt but the item descriptions says there is a knob. The item decription is wrong.

Also, the sliding doors often get stuck. I'm not sure why this happens--probably a wood chip gets lodged in the track--but damn, is it annoying. Stopping work to disassemble a blast gate is a huge time waster.

Also, at $13 each, this is really expensive.

5-0 out of 5 stars blast gates
The aluminum blast gates are just great.A little bit on the expensive side but worth the money.I'll just keep on buying two every other month. ... Read more

Editorial Review

JET's stated goal for this tool was to design the best spindlesander on the market, and point by point the company has succeededthrough better innovation rather than cost cutting. First, thisbenchtop model is double the weight of others on the market and has a1/2-horsepower motor versus the 1/4-horsepower motors found elsewhere. This means larger pieces won't bog down and the machine will runsmoother. Two excellent design improvements are the relocated andsealed on/off switch (to prevent dust infiltration) and shelves whereyou can insert and store your five complete spindles. All JET motorsare totally enclosed and fan-cooled to prevent overheating and dustinfiltration. This translates to longer motor life and less risk of afire hazard than open motor housing--very important in such a dustyoperation. This sander also has a sealed grease box around theoscillation mechanism for dust protection and longer life. Theprecision-ground table tilts to 45 degrees and accepts a modifiedinsert for angles. Other inserts have air holes to improve dustcollection through the 2-inch dust port. While JET shop tools are oftensold as price leaders, this one leads with quality instead, and whilethe price may be higher than other spindle sanders, you get more tool.Sometimes bells and whistles really are worth the money. --NancyGleason ... Editorial Review

A staple in the professional woodshop, a drill press should be able to perform grunt work, yet quickly adjust for precision applications. Jet's 16-1/2-inch model does just that. Made of cast-iron and heavy-gauge steel components, this press spins bits up to 5/8 of an inch with 16 speeds from 200 to 3,630 rpm. A 3/4-horsepower induction motor drives the belts, and, for your convenience, it can run off either 115-volt outlets (for which it comes prewired) or 230-volt sources. The large 13-3/4-inch worktable glides easily with rack-and-pinion adjustment and tilts 45 degrees right or left to accommodate your needs. Two features we like are the positive depth stop on the left side, which quickly adjusts and locks in place via three nuts, and the built-in lamp, a nice touch some competitors don't offer. Changing belt position is a snap after flipping open the hinged metal cover, and, to personalize the press for your comfort and peace of mind, you can adjust the tension on the spindle return spring, as well as lock out the start button to protect others in your absence. This industrial-style drill press is a tool any professional or serious home woodworker can depend on. --Justin Paul ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Drill Press
I chose this drill press after reading a lot of reviews comparing Jet, Delta, Ridgid, etc., both here and in forums, magazines, etc., and the Jet received higher marks on average (all had reviews that ranged from excellent to poor, so one has to obtain some sort of weighted average).I also checked out the Ridgid and the Jet at local stores, and both looked and felt good (lowering quill, manually turning spindle, raising table). The Jet had a larger "swing," longer quill travel, and a larger motor (3/4 hp vs. 1/2 hp) than the Ridgid, though the Ridgid was cheaper. Also, one local store that carries very high quality power tools only stocked Jet drill presses, an indication that the owner is putting his reputation behind them.

Assembly was easy and was completed without a hitch.Putting a straight 3/8" rod into the chuck, I checked that the table was square to the rod and that runout was minimal (I forget the measurements, but runout was very small).

I have had this drill press for 3 months now, and it is working well.At first use, there was some vibration at almost all speeds, so I checked that the pullies were aligned vertically (coplanar), which they were, and that the motor was not vibrating (it was smooth when removed and run on the bench).I then purchased a 5' link belt, which nicely made the two ~29" belts required, and the vibration was reduced to a minimal level (passes nickel test even when starting). The vibration was not really excessive before the link belts, but enough to make me less than ecstatic with my purchase. With the link belts, I'm very happy with the drill press.

The lowest speed of 200 rpm is very handy for larger Forstner bits and hole saws. The built-in light is nice (I had no bulb trouble that others noted), as is the chuck key holder, a small item but very convenient.

My only complaint is that the rack and gear system for changing the table height has some areas where it wants to bind a bit and then "jump."However, I crank slowly, and when I feel resistance, I back off and ease through it.Unlike some reviewers's units, my rack is straight and flush with the support, and slides smoothly (when rotating the table to either side), though problems that others have noted with the racks have helped by alerting me to swing the table slowly, watching the rack ends as they slide.

Overall a nice drill press that I hope will last until my son or one of my daughters inherits it from me.

2-0 out of 5 stars Many problems right out of box
I bought the Jet because, like many others, I was impressed with the good things other reviewers had to say about its overall value. The motor is more than powerful enough, the construction seems sturdy, and the range of speeds is impressive.

Now let me tell you about my ordeal with this drill press. When it arrived (1 day late) via ABF, the box was absolutely mutilated. The driver noted the damage to the box, and that there was no visible damage--which was true enough. In spite of the box's condition, the pieces inside seemed to be undamaged. Assembly took only about an hour. Everything fit together nicely, except the rack, which is bowed so that there is about 1/2 in of space between it and the support post. The cast iron base is heavy and sturdy, but mine is warped--no matter where I place it, I have to shim one corner to keep it from rocking. The motor is quiet, but the motor-mount is bent. The whole motor assembly sits about 7 degrees off plumb. Naturally this is a little disconcerting. I had no trouble mounting the arbor and chuck to the quill, but the run out is so severe (over 1/32 in.) that I get oblong holes. And talk about rattle! This thing rattles in more places than I can count! From top to bottom! Forget about the `nickel test', I can't even get a wrench to stay put on the table--it dances right over the edge.

In short, this drill press is 100% unusable.

I assume poor handling during shipping caused most of the problems I have experienced, but judging by other reviews, maybe not all.

I'm more than disappointed. I hope cases like this are rare.

UPDATE:
I have been on the phone with tech support for over an hour. The rep I spoke with was very patient and understanding and he didn't dismiss my frustration. After some time talking about the problems, he sent me off to do a little troubleshooting on my own. When I called him back with the results, he advised me to send the whole thing back to Amazon.

I plan to exchange it for the same model. Hopefully the next one will work. I'll let you know.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Drill Press - Amazon Stinks Though
This drill press is very nice. The description isn't as thorough as it could be on the site.It has plenty of speeds and the quality of the work that comes off of it is very nice.
Be careful when ordering.Amazon claims free shipping and in stock.I had to wait 2 weeks - and they charged me an addl. $9.95 for shipping.Wouldn't have been a big deal except I needed it for business. And they strung me along week by week instead of being up front about the delay.
Also having the same shipping and availability problems with a bandsaw I ordered from Amazon that same day.Had to cancel and order from a different supplier. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This 18-inch band saw offers high-quality construction and big resawing capacity to serious woodworkers on a tight tool budget. This saw's most prominent benefit is the one-piece, dual tapered column design, which offers superior rigidity and strength, minimizing vibration and keeping cuts clean, smooth, and accurate. Woodworkers in the know will also appreciate the inclusion of roller bearings on both the upper and lower guides, with dual roller bearings on each side of the blade and a single bearing behind the blade for back support. The system greatly reduces the friction inherent in stationary and European guide systems while providing more support. The saw is powered by a totally enclosed, 1-1/2-horsepower, fan-cooled motor with a blade speed of 3,000 sfpm. There's a large cast-iron worktable (19 by 19 inches) that tilts 45 degrees to the right and 10 degrees to the left. This model also comes with a JET rip fence and a good miter gauge. The saw's maximum cutting height is 10-1/4 inches, and the upper blade guide uses a smooth and precise rack-and-pinion adjustment mechanism. This tool's versatility just keeps on going, accommodating 133-inch blades from 1/8 to 1-1/2 inches wide for equally smooth curve cutting or resawing. JET puts the finishing touches on the saw with two locking cabinet doors and the durable powder-coated finish found on all their shop tools. In all, we think serious woodworkers will really appreciate the high quality JET is able to deliver for such a low cost. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Machine
I give this machine 5 stars. Some talk about the sub-par blade that is included with this machine, the so-called underpowered motor, and the difficult to adjust lower blade guides.

First, the blade that comes with this unit is as they say, for decoration.Buy a Timber Wolf blade and that complaint is gone.Your buying a saw, not a blade.Great saw!

Second, I put a 3/4" x 3 tpi TimberWolf blade on and it resawed through 5 1/4" wide oak like butter and the finish was better than the rough planned wood I buy at the sawmill.Motor is not underpowered if the setup is correct.Again, your buying a saw, not a blade.Great saw.

Finally, the lower guides.I put the new blade on and set it up according to the direction(Timberwolf blades dont use the standard tension setting). The lower was more difficult than the top.But its easy.It took maybe 5 minutes at most. The lower bearings have one knurled knob to loosen up.loosen up the knob and set the 0.003 clearance, tighten knob.then set the thrust bearing. No big deal. When changing blade widths, there are two internal wrenching(allen head) bolts. With the table at 90 deg to the blade, loosen up the outer one, tilt the table and loosen the inner one. Adjust for the blade width and tighten the inner, put table back to 90 deg and tighten the outer. EASY.Then set the side bearings and thrust bearing. If five minutes to set up a machine is too long, well, maybe woodorking is not your thing.Again, Great saw!

And all that after the first saw I got had a dented up upper door complete with bent upper wheel.Damaged somewhere between here and Tiawan. It happens.Got a replacement within a week and the old one taken away.

This saw is the best deal out there.Forget the blade that it comes with, forget about those that say its underpowered, and forget about what some say about the difficulty adjusting the lower guides. If you enjoy making great stuff out of wood, buy the saw, buy a couple timber wolf blades and spend the 5 minutes it takes to set up the lower guides.I have a piece of hard maple that is 12x14x1.I'll rip it to 10"(the max capacity for resawing) and see what this saw can do.If it went through 5 1/4" oak like a hot knife through butter, I think it will take 10" hard maple with little problems.UPDATE:Got a chance to do some resawing with hard maple and the results were amazing.I used a piece of 8" wide stock 3/4" thick(using the 12" wide piece for something else).I resawed to get a 1/2" piece and now have a good size piece of 1/8" thick veneer. You can get the TimberWolf blades at a great discount from SuffolkMachinery.Do a search for "Suffolk Machinery Corp" for the website.

Hope this helps.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a stout tool.
My saw arrived in a crate that literally "wrapped" the entire saw. With the exception of the table and rip fence, the saw was completely assembled. I immediately rewired the 1 1/2hp motor for 220v operation. The only downers I encountered with the machine were the very short 5 foot power cord and the cheesy 3/4" blade. I put a brand new 1" Timberwolfe on and replaced the power cord using 12/2 s.o. wire. Once all adjustments were made, I took a piece of 8 qtr. x 8" maple and started resawing 1/32" stips that were 3 feet long.Every piece was perfect. This is a heavy machine.A mobile base is a must.I can't understand why anyone would buy the Delta X5 14".For roughly the same money, you get twice the saw with the Jet 18". The "underpowered" reviews obviously haven't set their saws up for 220v operation. This saw has not bogged down on me once.
I looked very, very hard at the Laguna and the Mini Max. They are good machines. They also cost over $1000 more. You won't be disappointed with this saw.

4-0 out of 5 stars Jet 18" Bandsaw, Great Machine for the Money
First off, I bought the machine at my local woodcraft store on sale for $999, best price on the machine I've seen.It came assembled so I did not have to deal with any assembly.Pros and Cons

Pros, runs great, quiet, cuts very well, so far handles everything I've run thru it without problems, including 8" thick walnut. If you use a good blade, and a reasonable feed rate, I don't find horsepower to be an issue on this machine.

Cons, the blade that comes with the machine is terrible, but that seems to be a problem with any bandsaw. The lower guides are more difficult to adjust then any I've come across.

Yes, there are better machines out there, Laguna, Mini Max to name 2.Yet, for the money I dont think you will find a better machine.Read the December issue of Fine Woodworking regarding tips to tune up your bandsaw.I'm running the Jet without lower guide, so far it seems to work fine. I may purchase some aftermarket guideblock system to replace the lower guides on the Jet.Also, if you are considering purchasing a bandsaw, Lonnie Birds book is of great help.If Jet could do a better job on the lower guides I think the machine would rate 5 stars. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Finally saw a demo of this unit.
Previously, I tried two different sears craftsman versions which kicked out the release button when I tightened the holding knob.

At the home improvement show this fall, I got to play with this unit at the Wilton booth. It had a metal looking piece which kept the release unit from self releasing and if you overtightened-the unit just clicked but held on solid.I was pleased to see this.I found another Wilton in a hardware store with non-metal looking pieces which was what the sears ones had in them but didn't bother to buy it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great product, awful packaging
I find this a fine product for light work.It does double duty as a convenient wide-jawed clamp or spreader.

But whoever designed the hard plastic packaging should spend eternity in hell unwrapping these things.NO thought was given to the buyer's convenience.Even with sharp industrial shears, it is VERY difficult to remove from the packaging.I would not buy another for that reason alone. In fact, the one I received already had half the package cut away as if someone had given it up and returned it rather than bloody his fingers.

2-0 out of 5 stars Pretty nice system but needs to be improved
This seems like a good system so I bought one.It provides a swivel base and a quick-release bar clamp.Upon mounting on a table, it does seem to provide a very verstatile way to hold various objects. However, two problems soon become evident.First, the whole system has a lot of play in it, so it is not really designed for any activity that would exert more than moderate force (such as hack-sawing) on the object.Secondly, there is a defect in the design that when you clamp the system onto a table, the release on the bar clamp is practically touching the table, which makes it rather cumbersome and hard to swivel the clamp or tighten or loosen the clamp.Back to the drawing board. ... If you're doing serious woodworking at home or in a small professional shop, JET's 1-1/2-horsepower dust collector is right up your alley. JET has taken an already fantastic system that collects 7.36 cubic feet of material at 30 microns and larger and upgraded it to accept the optional canister-style filter, which traps everything down to 2 microns. The 1-1/2-horsepower motor moves air at 1,100 cubic feet per minute. As a rule, JET systems run quieter than other dust collectors we've used, but we still recommend ear protection, considering you'll be running it in conjunction with a saw, planer, sander, or other power tool. Unlike other systems, this one offers 4- and 6-inch inch ports. Another nice touch: the collector comes mounted on casters for easy maneuvering. 4-0 out of 5 stars It's okay
This product is okay - about the same as the website.Toolcrib used to have competive prices before it was bought out by Amazon. This vacuum, for instance, is selling at Menards for $289.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow! Worth the Price!
I had been using a shop-vac, 2 1/2-inch PVC pipe/hose system in my shop for 3 years, but the amount of dust I make overwhelmed it long ago. I make a musical instrument called a hammered dulcimer, and the extensive sawing, planing and sanding was covering my shop with dust and debris. After some research, I settled on the JET 1100A. I'm very glad I did.

The Amazon shipment arrived on time via UPS - maybe even a little early. The box was in good shape, and everything in it was undamaged and unmarred - perfect condition.

Assembly was extremely easy and quick, and all components fit together like they were designed. No problems with strapping on the upper bag, and the lower bag popped in easily.

After visiting the local Rockler store for 4-inch hose and connectors, I attached the JET 1100A to my new hose and blast gate system. Then I gave it my biggest test. Previously, with the old shop-vac system hooked up to my DeWalt 13 1/2-inch planer, half or more of the shavings would end up on the floor. I thought it was the poorly designed dust chute on the planer. However, after hooking up my new JET 1100A I was amazed and very pleased. No, I repeat, no shavings escaped the pull of the JET. Edge sander? Same result. Drum sander? Same result.

The table saw is another matter. While the JET collects the majority of dust coming from the saw, some operations just cannot be made clean. However, the dust being distributed on the shop floor by the table saw has been reduced by 90-percent. I'll take that over the alternative.

Combined with the PSI Woodworking 110V Long Ranger Dust Collector Switch that I bought from Amazon (I cannot tell you how pleasing and helpful it is to turn on the dust collector from anywhere in the shop), my dust collection system has been upgraded several very satisfying notches.

Do I think the JET is overpriced for the job it does? No. Am I glad to get it at a discounted price, with no tax and no shipping cost? You bet!

I have now bought seven major tools from Amazon over the past three years (dust collector, 13 1/2-inch planer, drum sander, edge sander, sliding compound miter saw, table saw and floor-stand drill press) and have been pleased with each one of them. No bad experiences. No damaged products.

If you are looking for a great dust collector that performs extremely well after being properly attached to a good 4-inch hose system, you will do well to consider the JET 1100A. It has my strong recommendation.

When it comes to jointers, there aren't a lot of differences among the leaders in the market. Like other manufacturers, Jet uses heavy-duty cast iron in the fence, jointer base, and infeed/outfeed tables and offers a three-blade drum and built-in 4-inch dust port. Their design, however, features a couple of innovations that changed our "jointers are jointers" mindset. While the infeed tables in other models can only be raised or lowered with a rod or lever system, this machine's design allows you to adjust both of the feed tables by rotating smooth, industrial-style hand wheels. This feature lends itself to easier tapers and gives you more control when you need to take off precise measurements, like 1/64 of an inch, a setting that can frustrate woodworkers lifting the arms up or down on other machines. The fence glides extremely smoothly throughout its range of motion and tilts both ways, but, where other brands offer fixed stops only at 45 and 90 degrees, Jet's jointer adjusts to quickly reproduce multiple cuts at any angle you find necessary. Driven by a 4,850 rpm, 1-horsepower induction motor completely encased in a welded steel stand, this jointer comes prewired for 115-volt outlets and can be converted to run off 230-volt sources. As a final touch, Jet designed the industrial start switch with holes behind the button for locking with a readily available Master Lock to keep coworkers or family members safe from accidental injury. --Justin Paul ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent machine
Picked one up a couple months ago.

Everything was right on.Assembled it according to the instructions and it cut like a dream.I tested it out with some scraps of oak I got at my wood supplier.Great finish and perfectly straight after running them through a couple times.

Machine has little vibration. Not too loud.Plenty of power.

Like every machine that has the typical 'fan belt', the vibration can be reduced with a link belt, along with a reduction in noise.Hearing protection is a must with any wood cutting operation, just as important as safety glasses.

I went a long time without a jointer and have greatly increased the quality of my work with it.If you are looking to add a nice piece of equipment to your shop to help you produce better results, I would recommend this jointer.

This machine has all the right features.First thing to do is coat the fence and table surfaces with Slip-It or a non-silicon wax. It's a night and day difference when the wood easily glides across the table and when you have to force it.

For a 6" jointer it was the Jet or the Delta. For me, the Jet had the edge with the hand crank adjustment of the infeed and outfeed tables.

Update:Did some rabbiting cuts with it and it worked great.Seemed alot easier and safer than using a router.Finish on the cuts was excellent.Hogged out about 1/4" in a single pass in hard maple with no problem.

Hope this helped.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect jointer for the home shop
After doing considerable research on jointers, I knew that I wanted to purchase an excellent one for the money. My requirements were that it had to come from a reputable manufacturer, be reliable, solid, and powerful.

My research led me to this Jet jointer and I haven't been disappointed since. When you power it up, the silky smooth hum of the motor belies it power. It seems to be saying, "time to rock."Dust collection is very efficient, the supports are dead-flat, and the motor is incredibly powerful.I mean I face jointed 5.5" 8/4 hard maple on this puppy...

Everything about this machine is just right:the feel, the look, the reliability. There are some things that can't be expressed in words. So if you have access to one, give it a try.Or just save yourself the time and just buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Jointer And Tough As Nails
Have had mine for over 5 years and still runs like a top. I take it out to jobsites often and even after being knocked around and all over it still purrs like a kitten. In fact it once fell out of my truck and the only thing that happened was I broke the outfeed table adjustment wheel ( not that I ever move it ) and a couple of scratches. The only tinkering I have to do with it is when I change the knives. Other than that, turn it on and go! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Unveil this secret weapon with the flick of a switch and establish a strong beachhead against dust in your home or shop. Powered by a 1-horsepower, 115-volt induction motor, Jet's 650 cfm dust collector comes with 2.67-cubic-foot bags that grab particles 30 microns and larger. The 9-3/4-inch steel blower wheel is stout enough to handle larger particle-producing applications. The entire unit sits conveniently on easy-to-roll casters, so moving it around the shop is no problem. A unique feature separating Jet's dust collectors from the competition is how easily the lower bag can be removed and reattached. There's a handy flexible metal band that snaps quickly into place--which is a hundred times easier than wrestling with cinch straps. The machine stands only 66 inches tall and is ideal for small shops. There's only one dust port; you have to set up to larger models for two ports. A great carpenter once referred to sawdust as "the indomitable scourge silently mounting in woodshops nationwide." Well, now there's something you can do about it. --Justin Paul ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great addition to my shop
After setting up the dc650, I couldn't believe i waited so long to get one. I was using a 6HP shop vac, and I figured that would be good enough for my tools. Bad idea... i ended up with a lot of saw dust clogs in my planer, band saw, and especially planer (dw 735 -- an awesome machine) which instantly clogged the shop vac pipes. this dust collector is significantly quiter and far stronger. using 4" is also much nicer than the 2" shop vac tubes.

Note that the unit doesn't come with any tubing ... you'll want to buy some lengths of 4" tubing (not dryer vent tubing get dust collector tubing, preferably clear so you can make sure there are no clogs) and some 4" hose clamps. For my set up, i've put in a variety of hard 4" pipes (sewer pvc) and then put in blast gates, t's, etc and various reducers to hook up to all of my equipment. since my shop space is limited, i move the dust collector around to hook up in to my hard runs or machines directly. my areas is way cleaner and my tools are way happier. get one!

3-0 out of 5 stars JET DC-650/708640
I bought this Dust Collector just about a year ago. First, I found it almost inpossible to get the standard 30 micron filters to snap in place. On advice from another owner on this forum I purchased a set of 5 micron bags from Penn State Industries to cut down on dust escaping through the filter bags. These bags although they were advertised to fit the DC 650, by the time you got them in place and sealed with the spring loaded 20" retaining clips you end up with bunched up pleats which allow dust to escape through. The DC 650 does work well to collect the saw dust produced while sanding on my Powermatic 2442 lathe but I think there are better designed collectors out there that for a few more dollars wouldn't have these design deficiencies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Collector For The Small Shop
I've had mine for years and it works great. I use primarily at the Miter Saw since that's the only tool in my shop that is stationary. For any small shop it works great. This used to be my DC for my basement shop before I moved into the garage. The only problem I had with it was on my belt/disc sander. It didn't pick up the dust that well but the there was roughly 25 feet of hose and PVC to go thru. Not the DC's fault. Overall, I'd recommend it for any small shop ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Hose, Great For the Purpose
This hose fits the standard 4" couplings snugly. The nice thing is that it will not get damaged by accidentally stepping on it. It springs back. It is light enough to be used as a movable hose for picking up a pile of sawdust. It isn't affected by a strong vacuum, so it is strong enough to not collapse without springing back. Nice job Jet. It is a wire reinforced hose.
The wire clamps are the best to secure it. Typical band clamps, like the type that are used for water hoses are not suggested. They spread themselves over the coiled wire. Such a wire is not meant to collapse. The wire clamps on the other hand are meant to slide down in between the wires, meeting with the plastic hose material, enabling the preferred compression directly onto the sleeve. Jet makes nice wire clamps as well.
Overall highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works Great!
I use several of these hoses in my shop to connect power tools to my Jet vacuum system. They work great. They work the best with the wire clamps. I recommend using a distribution of rigid plastic or metal pipe to get to the woodworking machine, then use one of these hoses to connect the machine to the rigid system. These hoses also can be used to vacuum the floor or other areas but are a bit clumsey due to the large diameter.

4-0 out of 5 stars Don't Get Hosed !!
This is an excellent Dust Collection Hose.It does measure a consistent 4" and always fit easily over the connection fitting. It is somewhat flexible and very rigid, but will not coil back into itself. This might be a problem if you move your equipment back and forth.

The other hose options are a Clear Hose, which allows you to see any possible clugs and air blocks in the DC system. And there is a 50 foot coil hose, which is not as rigid, but it is sturdy and it will coil back into itself, allowing for the movement of machinery.

I used all three in my DC system. The clear hose where large particles would be generated (lathe, bore machine), the 10 foot rigid hose in areas that would always remain fixed in location. And the 50 foot coil hose (cut up, of course) on machine that I move back and forth from the wall to the garage floor.I don't have endless space in the garage for all the "needed" equipment I have to use.

All three hoses work just fine, no problems, no issues. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad..
I recieved this jig for xmas last year, but just unpacked it this month. Usually cut my dovetails by hand as most of my jewelry box's are 4" or less in depth. With the Lee Valley/Veritas dovetail guide and dovetail saddle, layout and cutting on smaller pieces is pretty quick and accurate. I have a xmas project for 12 jewelry box's this year, for granddaughters, and decided they would all be basically the same design, but using differant woods for each. Also they will be 7" deep. Figured I could set the jig up and then cut all the dovetails for the 12 box's in one session.
The jig, at first, does not seem overly robust. Haven't seen or used any others so my impression may be wrong on this. The manual is pretty dismal, took a couple hours of trial and error to get everything locked in the way I wanted. I ended up making 6 "shop box's" before I was happy with the results. The clamping system does an adequate job of holding the wood in the jig. Seems flimsy but does do the job. I agree with the previous reviewer who said to use a straight bit to hog out first then use the dovetail bit to finish. This makes for a nicer finish on the joints, leaving just a little cleanup. Once I got the jig set it did a pretty good job, it repeated nicely and I had no problems with any of the pieces or parts. Counting setup and cutting time it took about 6 hrs to do all 12 box's. I figure that was 4 hrs actually cutting on the jewelry box's. It probably would have taken me 6hrs to cut and fit them by hand. So..two hours of actual labor saved. The joints fit well and look nice, so I guess I am happy with the results. I don't think I would have bought a dovetail jig for myself, or if I had it would have been a much larger one. Would be nice to use one on the hope chest's I seem to making more of. They tend to be 18"-20" deep and cutting the dovetails by hand takes up a lot of time.
That being said, I do miss some of the satisfaction I get out of cutting them by hand. I will keep this jig and use it when I have "production" work to do, but for individually sized box's, I can cut the dovetails by hand in the time it would take to set this jig up.
For the price I think this jig will be hard to beat, and would recommend it as a first jig, or one for occasional use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth the money
I just recently purchased the Jet Dovetail jig, and I have to say I had absolutely no problems with it. I didn't have to make any adjustments besides the fence to get a perfect dovetail the first time used. For the weekend woodworker this jig is definately worth it, considering the low price. The equation in the instruction booklet made no sense, just trial and error on some scrap pieces of wood to set the fence. I gave this jig 5 stars because of the low price and beautiful dovetails this jig produced for me the first time out of the box.

4-0 out of 5 stars No Problems Here
I have made many drawers with this jig and find it adequate. It has been some time since i read the instructions, and the other reviewers may have a ligitimate complaint about them being poorly written. I had no major problems. Initial adjustment of the jig takes a few minutes. Also initial adjustment of your router takes a little time and maybe a few trial pieces. I recommend buying a good quality dovetail bit. The cheapo bits are generally shorter in legnth and cause it to be inserted way to shallow in your router. This can be dangerous. After everything is set up, making the dovetails is a breeze, just number your pieces and insert them into the jig the right way. The clamps work well and hold the boards firmly. KEEP IN MIND - the jig is not adjustable like a Leigh. I have found that the dovetails end up looking the best if the drawer height is limited to 1" increments. I rated this at 4 stars because i felt that is was a good value for the money. It's certainly not the best jig out there, but i think it has been a great easy to use starter jig (once set up)and i'm sure it will provide good service until i can justify the cost of a larger one. ... Editorial Review

More stable than an open-stand table saw yet compact enough to fit in small shops, JET's Supersaw incorporates a host of great design features and is clearly built with the needs and wants of serious home woodworkers in mind. It has a 1-3/4-horsepower, totally enclosed, fan-cooled motor located inside a fully enclosed cabinet with a hinged access door. This configuration protects the motor from dust damage, provides great airflow toward the dust collection port, and offers a more compact profile than the saw's main competition.

The Supersaw's heavy cast-iron table measures 21-1/4 by 27 inches. There's also a sliding table and an extra wing, which, when added to the main table, give a total work area of 1,127-1/4 inches. We have yet to see another saw in this price range that can match that. The sliding table offers better crosscutting accuracy than miter gauges and allows up to a 28-inch capacity. It's 14 by 27 inches and rides only 4 inches from the blade. Keeping this distance small reduces unnecessary friction caused by sliding the work. The sliding table also includes a heavy-duty miter fence with a large, easy-to-read scale, a cam-action lockdown, and large, comfortable handles. When you don't need the sliding table feature, it locks solidly in place.

Included with this new saw is JET's new Micro-Glide fence, which offers superb accuracy and reliability as well as a magnified cursor that makes fine-scale readings easy and a microadjustment feature that lets you dial the fence in to precisely where you need it without any clumsy tapping and bumping back and forth. The fence also has four built-in T-slots to accommodate jigs. Another cool idea is the power switch housing, which rides in a slot under the fence rail, allowing the user to decide where the switch should be located. The off switch is conveniently huge for easy shutdown in an emergency, and there's a power indicator light and a handy reset switch.

All this, and we still haven't mentioned the left-tilting blade, the smooth action of the hand wheels, the durability of the powder-coated finish, or the handy built-in padded storage racks on the side of the cabinet. There's even a cool new clear blade guard with independently moving sides so the blade is always visible and never exposed--even when bevel cutting. Considering this saw's innovations, JET's rock-solid engineering, and an unbeatable price, we think any small-shop woodworker would be wise to invest in the Supersaw. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad but has problems
I bought this saw about 4 months ago to replace an older contractor saw I had been using for 10 years.
Over all it's a pretty good saw except,
Dust collection or I should say WHAT dust collection. The built in system is a joke. It consists of small slots cut into the bottom of the cabinet, a pan screwed to the bottom of the cabinet and a 4" collector port pulling through those slots to the pan. The slots are too small and to few to be efficient. As a result the cabinet fills up with saw dust and you have to open the cabinet door and force it through the slots. It's really bad when you make a lot of dado cuts.
I cut two holes in the bottom of the cabinet to facilitate dust extraction. It's better but not great. I checked with Jet on the warranty issues with cutting those hales and it was no problem.
The sliding table is no more than a toy. After installing and aligning it I found that when you slide the table all the way back the rear of it sags and with you push it all the way forward the front of it sags. When it sags at the ends of travel the other end rises up. It's too small to be of any real use except for small work.
The miter gauge never remains in alignment. When I rip stock you of course I need to remove the miter gauge assemble. Every time I removed and replaced the miter gauge assembly I had to realign it to the saw blade.
I sold the sliding table on eBay, bought a new cast iron left wing from Jet and the Osborne miter gauge and have been much happier.
Like I said over al it's a good saw but I would recommend you buy the Supersaw with out the sliding table.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thanks to those who went before. . .
My thanks to all of the earlier JET Supersaw owners who commented about dust collection, breaking belts and sloppy fences. JET must have listened and fine tuned their Supersaw. The 30" Supersaw that was delivered to me recently has a dust chute that exits from the bottom of the cabinet, a fence that locks in place reliably, and, hopefully, a blade lifting belt that will be less prone to breaking. Fit and finish is much nicer than the equivalent Dewalt.

I assembled the saw with a cast iron router table between the saw table and the right extention table. I mounted my Incra Jig Ultra with holes I tapped in the right extention table and use it both for the router and for performing precision rips.

I have added a small shop-built sled using the handle from the miter guage to lock it to the sliding table, and a piece of UHMW in the miter slot. I attached a left and right rule to either side of the kerf for measuring accurately. It works well when cutting small stuff to size.

Overall, the Supersaw meets all of my expectations.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Saw - So So Finish
Received Jet's 30" Super Saw with Sliding Table and have used it for about three months. If you have any reservations of getting the Slider - GET IT! Money well spent and great for panel cuting and it is as smooth as can be! Dust collection works great and motor ripped through oak with no noticeable loss of power. The only reason this saw doesn't get a 5 from me is I was rather disappointed in the paint job.Had a chip or two when I got it (no big deal), but seems everything I bump into it, there is a new one!Geez, they should include a bottle of touch up paint with it! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars wasted my money
I bought these plastic blastgates because they were cheaper than aluminum. What a waste of money!I broke two of them while installing, the slots jam up with chips, and they cannot be taken apart for cleaning. As my funds allow, I will be replacing the plastic with aluminum.

5-0 out of 5 stars What's all the whining about?
I've used these blastgates for about a year in my home basement workshop and have never had a problem. I'll admit I don't use the shop every day, but for the casual user, these gates work great! I have about 4 of these in use. Most of the gates are connected on a hose or pipe in a vertical position (where the gate control is horizontal). This might help the problem that others on this forum seem to be complaining about (with dust collecting in the gate slot). As far as the taper goes, I'll agree the design doesn't need to be tapered. However, using the wire hose clamps tightened securely, I've never had one come off when I didn't want it to.

1-0 out of 5 stars dust jammer

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Saw
I recently purchased the Jet JWTS-10JF and am pleased with the purchase. The saw has excellent power and precision.Amazon's shipping was impressive as well - saw was sent immediately and arrived within a week.Back to the saw...Despite complaints from others that the instructions were inadequate or difficult to understand, I found them clear and had no trouble assembling the saw in approximately four hours.I was impressed that the newer Jet Micro Glide fence was included in the purchase.I find it far superior to the older Jet Fence that previously came with this model. My one complaint about this model is that the stamped steel wings are inadequate.I was advised by wise carpenters that cast iron wings are nice but not essential.I disagree. The steel wings are difficult to adjust to level with the cast iron table top and appear to be too lite (the saw has a mild vibration despite being properly assembled). If I could do it over again, I'd spend the extra money and buy the same saw, but with the cast iron wings (708300K).Aside from that minor complaint, you're going to get a great saw!

3-0 out of 5 stars I Know It Sounds Like I Have A Lot Of Complaints, but...
OK, so most tools are made in China these days... and they have gotten much better than in the old days at making them too.
First of all, I am glad to finally have a table saw.I have been shopping for over two years and was not really sure I wanted the Jet (actually my first pick, but had since developed some doubts) until the Christmas tool sale at Lowe's.Had it not been for that I can't say that I would have committed to this saw had it still been at full price. The bargain price lured me in (much better than here), but if you're like me, you want to know what I like and dislike about it.

The bad first, in order of personal annoyance:

1. The steel extension tables. They are hard to get right and you will have to expect to "bend" them in order to do it. I have been at it for a month now and am still not happy. Spend $100 more, get the next model up with the cast extensions and save the time for some other projects. I hate the steel extensions and was concerned about them even as I was forking over the money.

2. The fence and miter gauge. They are both just OK, but to get real accuracy you will need to spend at least another $400-$500 to replace both... the cheapest I could find (Rockler.com)Or for a total of $950-1000.00+/- (saw included) for good controllable, stable set ups. (edit: I am an old cuss and not wanting this fence to get the better of me, I have come to terms with it after much playing around... I'd still replace the miter gauge, but it is usable as long as you check it carefully after EVERY adjustment.Don't rely on the scale or the "flip-stop" to do it for you. It won't!) I think a tool made in China (cheap labor and material.Remember all those American jobs lost to China?) and distributed by an American company could do better... even in a base model saw.The Xacta fence should be standard, trash the "JetFence."

3. Before I made any important cuts with this tool I immediately replaced the drive belt with a Power Twist. My cheap Jet now runs smoother than my neighbors' more expensive Delta. He is jealous and doesn't know why.Don't ask, just DO-IT!!It's WELL worth the $30.00 investment.

4. The safety splitter and anti-kickback paws are nearly useless. They are difficult to install and uninstall when necessary.OK, we all know that most people who actually use their table saw remove these items most of the time, but isn't it time that someone come up with a quick release/quick setup for these safety items?(As I have discovered since, they do.... Expect to spend $150-430.00 for that privilege. What a bargain. }:-( ) I would use them more often if it weren't for the time it takes to uninstall them when I need a dado blade, or am running 4" tall material through the blade. The anti-kickback paws won't allow for 4" material. Etc, etc....

5. The dust collection "hood" stinks!I will replace this too, with a Dust Monkey and to the tune of another $50.00. (Edit: As it turns out, I made my own.See my review of the Jet hood.)

6. The blade/arbor adjustment controls seem to be way out of reach, beneath the saw table top, and are not intuitive.Maybe it's just me.

7. Mostly the manual was enough for setup. I set mine up, as others have said, in about four hours, except a few areas where I found it lacking: It was a little vague in the area of converting the saw/motor to 230 volt operation, like what current (amps) it would draw at 230?Should I install a 20 amp plug, receptacle and breaker, or a 30 amp? (Install the 20 amp if you convert); Also a few more suggestions about lining up and leveling the side extensions would've been nice, like how to bend them more accurately; and finally, not all the various hardware bags were clearly marked and I found myself guessing... correctly as it turns out, at what hardware the manual was referring to.

Note: For those who have read other customer reviews here, mine did come with it's own blade. It's a 40T, carbide tipped, and it ain't bad either! It does leave a little to be desired in the cross-cutting department.i get some tear-out with it, but it's OK.I will replace it with a better (Re: $$$$$$) one eventually, but it is quite good for a "get acquainted" type blade.

The good:

1. The motor is strong and starts, and pulls evenly to full speed.

2. The arbor assembly is strong and smooth operating.

3. The blade (see above comments.)

4. For the most part the saw was easy to setup, except as noted above.

5. Having a decent table saw is much preferred to having no table saw at all.

Suggestion: I know that not everyone is as lucky as I am to have a good sized, dedicated building for my shop, but no matter how much room you have or don't have, get the mobile base.
Jets' own works well and is easy to set up but is a little clumsy in actual use.The Jet base has four individual wheels/casters to lock and unlock which is not so convenient when you have 30" fence rails to get around, and it doesn't allow for side-to-side movement but it is reasonably priced to buy. (edit: less so after a $10.00 increase) Perhaps someone else makes one that's a little more convenient to use...?

My recommendation, if you are set on getting the Jet saw, get the model with the cast iron side extensions (usually about $100 more) and, if the funds allow, the Xacta fence. If you are cutting a lot of sheet material plan on building or buying a side table extension and an outfeed table.

I hope this helps and Good Luck!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good entry level saw.
I bought this saw with the $100 rebate from the drill press. It's heavy, so have someone there to help you assemble the motor onto the trunions.Decent amount of power for an entry level shop saw.Assembly took a couple of hours, but pretty straight forward. As with any saw, the quality of the cut is going to boil down to fence to blade alignment and quality of blade.Spend some $$ on a good blade (and keep it clean) and take the time to ensure the fence is tapering a few thousands of an inch away from the blade at the trailing end.

Only complaints:
1) Dust collection with my 1 1/2hp two bag collector is medicore, even after I closed many of the open areas (but hey, it's a Contractor style saw, so that's to be expected).

2) Aligning the splitter has to happen everytime after you take it off for a dado. It's tedious, and a knuckle scraper. If you remove the guard often, buy an aftermarket splitter/ gaurd that has quick mounting.

Overall:
Excellent saw for the price.I'd expect those complaints from this price range....so really there is nothing that I didn't expect.Happy cutting!!

5-0 out of 5 stars JET 14" Deluxe Woodworking Bandsaw
I was somewhat anxious about unpacking the JET Bandsaw, given some of the other reviews that I read;concerns about damaged parts, mis alignment and general difficulty in assembly.Well much to my relief, the unpacking and assembly of the bandsaw went without a hitch.OK, the mobile base was missing an axle sleeve which is absolutely necessary for the wheel to rotate, but $3.00 and 30 minutes later I had one thanks to a nearby harware store. The bandsaw itself was perfect and the instructions were clear and easy to understand.I am quite happy about this product and recommend it to anyone wanting a fine, quality bandsaw.

3-0 out of 5 stars I expected better, but with some work -- it's acceptable
I bought this saw and the riser kit at the same time and ran it before installing the riser kit.
The blades suck -- you will need to upgrade to bimetal or carbide very soon, so don't count on do any production until you replace the blades.

The machine does not come balanced -- don't kid yourself!
I took at least 6 grams out of the top wheel to balance it, and put the machine on 3/4" rubber matt to reduce vibration enough to balance a nickel on it.
It is possible to get these to run smoothly -- just not out of the box.

The motor cable should be about two inches longer, when you install the riser kit, the wire is at it's limit.

The machine should come with Carter style bearings!!

The bearings supplied are pathetic and you need to re-adjust them every time you run the guide set up or down by more than two inches.

In my estimation, the Grizzly is the better buy, but both are made in Asia.

Good Luck with yours!

4-0 out of 5 stars Jet 710115KBandsaw
Purchased the bandsaw based upon reviews I had read here and on other sites. So far am pleased with the tool, but have not used it to any large degree. But test cuts have been accurate, and smooth in operation.

Assembly was easy overall.Only real problem is with adjusting the tension on the belt since the nuts on the motor are in the most awkward place and two are hard to reach.

Only real complaint was the table, based upon another reviewers comment about the table, it was the first thing I checked, and sure enough it was not level over all the surface. It had about a 6 inch wide concave spot near the blade with the deepest part about 1/8 inch.Called Jet and no problem, they areshipping another table, hope it is completely level.Am happy with customer response to a problem.

3-0 out of 5 stars I Couldn't Live Without It, But....

I give this base a 3-star rating because it could be better. As has been stated before me, this base is easy to set up (NO TOOLS!!), though I did have to wedge the legs of my all ready set up Jet contractors saw into it. Once set up, as you might imagine, it does fit tightly around the saw base. It might have been easier if both were assembled at the same time. I do like that it is a four wheel system, but... what's this? No leveling system? Come on, Jet! }:-D

Also, and like many other bases, the rear does not have casters but locking wheels, which can be a little inconvenient in tight spaces... or if you have side/outfeed-table(s) attached, like I do. And all the wheels/casters have to be locked and unlocked individually. This is a problem in tight spaces and if you have extended fence rails to contend with, and with the afore mentioned extension tables.

If I had it to do over again perhaps I would've spent a little more on something else (e.g. on the Delta as mentioned by another reviewer), but I couldn't live without it either. For the money, it ain't bad, but it ain't perfect either.

I hope this helps you decide one way or the other.

5-0 out of 5 stars Create some floor space
I have a small shop and there never seems to be enough room.I purchased this unit for my 6" open stand joiner. The joiner is heavy and hard to move without a mobile base, so it usually sits out in the way. With this very functional unit, I can now move the heavy tool out of the way very easily to create more open floor space and make the shop look less cluttered

This unit is very easy to assemble (no tools required)and is very solid. The corner brackets (where the tools legs actually contact) are large and sturdy.I found the wheels to move and lock easily.I highly recommed this unit and will purchase another.

5-0 out of 5 stars solid mobile base
I bought this base for a Craftsman 10" hybrid cabinet table saw (weight approx. 430 lbs). This base was extremely easy to assemble -- took only a couple of minutes and no tools needed for assembly.Very solid and moves smoothly.I can move my table saw around without any difficulty whatsover. The base was very easy to adjust to the dimensions to my table saw.Two of the wheels lock with a foot lever. On smooth flooring it will still move slightly with effort, but wheeling it onto a rubber mat should eliminate that.Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and would happily buy another one (which I will probably do when I buy a jointer/planer). ... Editorial Review

While this JET saw beats its closest competitor on price, italso offers some advantages in terms of design and construction.Placing the quick-connect electrical plug right at the saw so the userdoesn't have to search out the wall socket for every blade change isjust one small example of JET's attention to detail. The stand for thissaw is made of a heavy-gauge metal, and features a hinged motor cover and a 4- inch dust port for easy connection to a dust-collection system. Achange in the hole pattern on the fence rails means lefties can shiftthe set up to their preference. The left-tilting arbor is another markin this saw's favor. Tilting the blade away from the fence negates theneed for a sacrificial fence and reduces the risk of the piece bindingunder the blade. This saw's most impressive feature is the smoothaction of the blade height-adjustment mechanism. Not only will userssave their wrists and knuckles, but they'll also save time by being able tocrank the blade to the exact height necessary with vastly fewer testruns for every rabbet, dado, tongue, and groove. Finally, we reallyappreciate JET's use of totally enclosed fan-cooled motors on this andevery other saw the company makes. While this may add a little to the finalcost of the saw, the extra life and reliability this gives the motorsis well worth it. This saw is an excellent choice in its price range.--Nancy Gleason ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Product Support
I'm afraid I have to agree with one of the other posts regarding poor warranty service. I purchased a the left tilt saw (along with an 18" bandsaw and dust collector) in November of 2004 and for almost 2 of the last 5 months it has been inoperable. Initially I phoned tech support to report that the motor stopped and they speculated that it was a problem with the start capacitor. They sent a new one and I installed it but the motor still did not work. At their instruction I did some diassembly anddetermined that the windings of the motor were charred black so they said they would send me a new motor, however it wouldn't be available for more then a month. I phoned back the following day and asked if they could send a motor from a display model, new or used. The fellow I spoke to said he would "see what he could do" and call me back that day. He never called. When the motor finally became available I was assured that it would be shipped by 3 day air since it had been so long. It wasn't shipped as promised. I called only to find it out that it went by standard ground transportation. When it arrived I opened the boxonly to find that the 60+ pound motor had about a 1/2 of an inch of packing underneath it and consequently the fan housing was smashed into the fan and the mounting plate was bent. Futhermore they sent the wrong motor. I have a left tilt saw; they sent a right tilt motor, even though I provided the model number and the original motor tag (along with a special form they required). I phoned again, spoke to the same person and was told she would overnight a new motor. It's been 5 days and I'm still waiting. Obviously I'm a bit frustrated at this point hence the reason for my first ever product review. It may well be that the product is as good as any other companies but in reality it is only as good as the company that stands behind it and right now they're not very impressive. If you're going to be relying on this saw for your business I would recommend looking into another brand.

5-0 out of 5 stars a fine machine
I bought the Jet 10" saw and it is great. Plenty of power, I rip through 8/4 maple and cherry like butter. The finish is great, The assembly was a piece of cake. Just the slightest little bit of adjustment in the fence was needed. I didn't spend more than 5 minutes adjusting the saw, Delta should learn a little from them. As far as the fine adment on the fence, well it is just easier to tap the fince with your fist to move it 1/32 of an inch. Maybe I am just old school... I considered heavly between the Delta and the Jet but I am glad I got the Jet. There is nothing that irratates me more is than when you spend $1500 or more and nothing is in line.... I will buy other jet products.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ain't no Powermatic
I'm a professional carpenter/cabinet builder working in the field for over 20 years.I've used every kind of table saw out there: Powermatics, Unisaws, Olivers, Grizzleys, Generals, saws without labels, European saws with unpronounceable names, way too many hours pushing wood through a saw.I needed a new saw for a small shop space I'm setting up and picked the 10" jet cabinet saw (JTAS-10XL50.)I figured it was pretty much the same as a Powermatic and would save me $500.I doesn't matter to me who's label is on the front, nor how shiny the top, just how it works.

The first saw I received (after having to bring it the final 300 yards to the shop door from were it was left in the street, so much for the $25 extra delivery fee) was broken. It had been dropped or hit on the bevel-adjusting shaft, which broke off the 90-degree stop portion of the front trunnion. It may have been a shipping problem, but it was caused by improper crating- the shaft had no protection.

Two weeks latter (returns aren't handled with any special urgency) I got another saw. This one has vibrations that come into the saw blade and leave a rough cut.Jet's remedy is to keep taking pieces off and getting replacements from Tool Crib till the problem is gone.

Four days after calling in the replacement of a motor, two pulleys, three belts and some odds and ends Toll Crib still can't tell me when the parts will
