5-0 out of 5 stars solution for metric bolt
I installed the ht. extension on 2 Delta bandsaws (@ work & home) and highly recommend it. That extra 6" sure does make a difference! The large bolt is indeed a metric size (31mm). Not wanting to go out and buy a wrench or socket that I probably would never use again, I made up my own bolt out of a length of 3/4" all-thread and a couple of nuts. Just a suggestion.

4-0 out of 5 stars Visit the wrench guy before assembly!
I bought this accessory, but could not find the right wrench to install it. So I visited the "wrench man" and had to buy a wrench set. The 1 1/4" wrench is slightly bigger and the 1 1/8" is too small for the nut. I suspect it is metric. Neither the instructions nor the Delta site have any info on the correct size. Using the 1 1/4" wrench I tightened it until it started to slip. But it seemed secure and the saw works perfectly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Next Best Thing to a New Saw
If you are like me, you bought one of the 14" Delta saws with the feeling that 6" was plenty of height. This is most often because we first see a bandsaw as a useful tool for cutting up and cutting out.Evenually, the idea of resawing a costly piece of lumber occurs to us, and suddenly we are in a vertical world where 6" is a big limitation.I still had many qualms when I first considered this extension, mostly out of fear of instability and vibration.

What I finally did was first improve the blade guides with roller bearings and balance out the wheels. And finally, with my eye on some very nice pieces of redwood burl, I bought this extension. My first reaction on opening the box was that the kit was of better quality than the original parts and a few incidents bore this out.

There is a lot to this kit, since both the height pillar and the blade guide arm must be extended. The task though is simple (on paper, at least).Unbolt the pillar and insert the extension. You may discover that unbolting is more of a chore than you expected since the bolt is huge, and there is little space to get at it.Again, the head is unwieldy and I suggest you have a buddy or two to help lift it while you put in the extension and get it tightened up.Once you are past this point everything is a matter of following directions. It takes about two hours.

In the middle of this I discovered that the hinge for my upper wheel was cracked and lost a few days getting it replaced. But that wasn't the kit's fault, just a combination of poor quality casting of an original part and me forgetting to back off the tension correctly when starting out.Be warned that tension is more critical when working at 12".

Once I did get everything working and adjusted, performance has been excellent.I found no noticable difference in vibration or smoothness of cut, which is all one can ask for.In retrospect, this is an excellent investment for anyone who doesn't want the bulk of a full size 18" band saw eating up shop space. One last note - I didn't experience the cord length problem one of the other reviewers noted. But my bandsaw is a recent version which has a built in break in the switch cord.Check to make sure you have enough slack on older saws. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Delta 28-197 Circle Cutting Attachment for Band Saws
The attachment wasn't at fault!
I had trouble with the circle cut becoming smaller and my blade coming out of the guides. It turns out that I had to tension my blade a little more.I heard some good tips and devoted a couple hours to troubleshooting. After adjusting the tension half way to the next size, the attachment works as expected and instructed.I also rounded the back of the blade and now cut circles easily.

3-0 out of 5 stars Delta 28-197 Circle Cutting Attachment
I recently purchased the attachment, assembled and adjusted it to my bandsaw (Jet 14" cabinet with a 1/4" 4 tpi blade), placed my project on it and started to cut. The first few inches of the 22 inch diameter circle went okay and then I noticed my band saw blade deflecting toward the jig.The blade continued to creep out of the guides as I turned the project. Each time I backed out and started over, I noticed the circle getting smaller and the blade starting to touch the jig.I disassembled everything, including the blade and guide rollers, readjusted and followed all instructions to the letter yet I still have the same problem with the attachment.Freehand works perfectly with much tighter radii so it's difficult to believe the blade is responsible.I called Delta technical support and was told either the blade was responsible or the jig was located too far forward in front of the blade.Again, I followed the assembly instructions exactly using the spacing bar and setting the middle of the slot to the leading edge of the blade teeth. The jig is flat and square to the table.Since the blade tries to turn into a tighter radius, could the instructions be wrong. If so, how far back do I set the jig?

The quality looks good, it's easy to assemble and adjust but I can't understand what I'm doing wrong. All suggestions or comments would be welcome. Thanks ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice little fence
It is light and feels flimsy but I have been using to resaw 1x4 and it works well. The fence comes with a metal bar that attaches to the band saw table and allow the fence to tighten and stay 90 degrees to the table.I have to admit that when I took it out of the box I didn't think much of it but my opinion changed quickly when I started using it.There are better fences out there but you'll have to get a much more expensive band saw to go with them so in my opinion this is a good buy and a good value.

3-0 out of 5 stars Basic Rip fence
Not a bad rip fence.. pretty light weight, Only attaches on one side of the table and you need to set it for the drift of the blade. It's not to bad though and it's better than nothing. I got it and I'd get it again if I didn't have it already. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars 1O " Slide Guides
These phenolic slide guides are barely worth the plastic they are made from.A roller bearing blade guide for the 10" Delta band saw would be a worthwhile investment. The guides wear much too easily when making curved cuts.Using a harder material would be very beneficial and save $7 per set. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not a quality item
I honestly think a board clamped to the work surface would take about the same amount of time to set up and do as good a job, if not better. The thing does not fit properly, even after following the instructions in the manual. Not too well designed, even if it is being used on a cheap bandsaw. I can "get by with it and make it work", but shouldn't have to. Too hard to stabilize and adjust.I do not recommend this product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Used
I knew that this was going to be a less than great product but I did not expect it to be used. They didnt even bother to clean the sawdust out of it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad for the money
For the money, this is not a bad item. Other reviewers are correct that it doesn't come with directions, but page 17 of the PDF manual that is linked on Amazon's product page (should be above if you are reading this review)shows the 5 steps needed to square it up. Took me less than 5 minutes. Basically, clamp it down, and loosen the two screws on top until it is square (the manual says to use the miter guage slot to check for square-ness, I used my Swanson Speed Square), then tighten the two screws. You can adjust how tight it clamps to the table by rotating the flip/lock lever until it is as tight as you need. That's it!

Again, for the price I paid, not a bad addition for my 9" band saw. When I get my 14" professional band saw, I'll get a better fence. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Wrong Fence
It's too bad I did not read the other reviews concerning this fence before I ordered one. This fence is not for the new imported Delta 14" Bandaws. I called a Delta/Porter Cable service center in Kansas City MO, and was told that the correct fence for the imported saws is 28-856 for the 12 inch fence, and 28-858 for the 24 inch fence. I called Tool Crib, where I purchased the 14" saw and fence, and was treated nicely, and promptly by a customer service person. She advised she was sending a UPS Call Tag to have the fence picked up, and that I am to receive a full credit for the return.

1-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work on my14" Delta Bandsaw and stated it did!
This item is advertised to fit all Delta 14" band saws and would not work on mine. Then after numerous emails trying to get Amazon to understand that this was their error and they shouldbe responsible for shipping the item back, they agreed However, they ended up charging me $9.99 to ship the item back! Don't waste your time or money!

1-0 out of 5 stars Wrong Fence
This fence is not the correct one for the new Taiwan made 14" Delta bandsaws. After contacting Delta they me that it was too short and the correct model was the 28-858 and then hung up on me.So far I can not find the right rip fence and I am fairly disappointed with Delta and Amazon. ... Read more
