5-0 out of 5 stars I couldn't have said it better
I was going to write a review of the Bessey cabinet clamps but I read what Alan Freedman said and I couldn't have said it better. So, to use Alan Freedman's comments (which I totally agree with)....

WHY YOU SHOULD BUY THEM: These are best clamps for squaring up a cabinet side/face frame ever. They work great standing up on a workbench. I consider them an invaluable part of my woodworking shop.

THE OTHER STUFF: These are not the end all. I still use my jorgenson clamps a lot. They apply point pressure (versus even pressure across the face of the clamp) which can be useful for truing up some jobs and clamping some irregular surfaces. The Bessey clamps are pretty heavy which can be ackward when clamping with one hand (and using the other hand to hold the project together).

THE BOTTOM LINE: You can never have too many clamps. I would not have less than a pair of the Bessey clamps in my shop. Four are better.

5-0 out of 5 stars these are great clamps
My only complaint is the price, but you get your money's worth. I plan to pick up a few more of these sometime in the future. The faces give you square pressure against the stock, which I find really important for edge gluing and cabinet building. I keep a little pressure on the heads for storage. The one time I did not I rotated the clamp head vertically and the clamp body slid down pinching my hand on the way down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes Woodworking an Absolute Pleasure!
My husband has been using his grandfather's pipe clamps for years. After doing extensive research, he finally decided to invest in some Bessey's.Needless to say, it's made his woodworking pasttime even more enjoyable. In fact, he liked these so well that he bought a second, identical set. These clamps are well worth the money! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Its an extremely well designed tool!
I own several of these Bessey clamps in various lengths, and I think the world of them. I reach for these clamps the most often in my shop. I have never experienced the bar "bowing" like other clamp bars tend to do - not at any length. With a very reasonable pricetag, I think these are some of the better all-around clamps on the market.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good light duty bar clamp
If you are going to use this for clamping with any significant force, get a heavier clamp.Working with picture frames and similar light work, or in reduced lengths, this clamp will work well for you. When I stretch it out to ~15 inches and apply enough force to push 2 x 4's together on a biscuit, it flexes by bowing the I-beam in a semi-circular arc. This throws the jaws out of alignment and applies and off center force that causes the joints flex out of square.

In summary, if you are doing light work, this clamp is a great value. If you need moderate clamping force, save your money and buy a more appropriate clamp that won't flex on you.

4-0 out of 5 stars An essential home craftsman's clamp.
This clamp is the perfect little tool to have around your house when you're building or mending small drawers or chairs. This is not a heavy duty piece, but you can manually tighten it to the point where it damagesyour object. Its important to remember that it doesnt have cushions and youneed to use some kind of wooden or hard rubber spacer to protect thesurface of your object. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Clamp of Choice
In my day to day tasks this clamp is the first thing I grab. Quick, strong, positive.I have some of those orange branded clamps and some days they are all applied (yes some days one can never can have enough), but the orange model has more give or deflection. Now that I have more than one model I can quickly feel the diffenrence.I like the larger diameter handles too.(The orange models have been modified with an epoxied on expander - feel no need for this with bessy.)I was given a thank-you gift of 4 new bessy 4"x15" that are also excellent.I'm a Bessy convert - I love'm.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bessey wins in medium duty as well
The nice thing about the Bessey Tradesmen's is that they are heavier duty than the competition, in the medium duty class, and you don't have to take out a second mortgage to afford a set of them. The locking mechanism works without any hassles, and the grip is strong. All in all a nice piece of equipment. A major competitor sells this model for less money, but it is also a lighter weight clamp. I like them all. Bessey makes great stuff, you can't go wrong with these. They are a great general-purpose clamp. Highly recommended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, Compact, & Convenient Medium Power Clamp
I have lots of pairs of clamps.Quick-Grips, bar clamps, pipe clamps, spring clamps, and so on.Different versions of somefrom different manufacturers. They all have their perfect uses but limitations. The Quick-Grips are good one handed but you have to really work to get good clamping force and workpieces tend to squirm beneath the large puffy pads.Bar clamps apply strong force and have less tendency to make the workpiece squirm, but take 2 hands to set and sometimes dent the workpiece.Pipe clamps with pads are massively strong and stiff but are awkward to install and have very shallow jaws. All of these options are heavy and large for their opening dimension.

Enter the Bessey KliKlamp.I recently picked up a couple of the 8" ones and have given them a good workout in the shop. The KliKlamps are exceptionally light and compact for their capacity.Let's compare them to a close competitor, the 6" Quick-Grip:

Quick-Grip:6" capacity, 14"x9"x1.5", 2 1/4" jaw depth (to center of pad - the real world test), 24 oz., 250 pound clamping force, 3x mechanical advantage driving clamp, $20.

KliKlamp:8" capacity, 11"x5"x1", 3" jaw depth (to center of pad), 11 oz., 330 pound clamping force, 18x mechanical advantage driving clamp, $20.

The KliKlamp has set a new standard. It offers more capacity, less size and weight for easy jobsite carry, greater jaw depth, higher clamping force, and better mechanical advantage to make getting the clamping force easier. All for the same price.I haven't had the KliKlamps long enough to say how their magnesium jaws hold up compared to the Quick-Grip plastic jaws. The bar pin sheared on one of my four Quick-Grips after extensive shop use.

The KliKlamp can be set one-handed, but not as easily as the Quick-Grip.That difference will keep my Quick-Grips around, but I'll be using the KliKlamp for most tasks. The KliKlamps will for sure be my travel clamps on account of their size and weight.Note that KliKlamps, and Quick-Grips, are "convenience" shop clamps. They get heavy use holding workpieces, stops, and in light duty glue clamping situations. You still typically have to reach for bar and pipe clamps when gluing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Super Clamp -- Bessey Quality at a Lower-than-K-Body Price!

First of all, I agree with everything the other reviewer said except for the idea that these clamps might not stand up in use by a professional cabinet shop.Used properly, the durability of these clamps should be as good as a K-Body.Of course, if you have an application where you're trying to squeeze warped panels together, you might want to use the K-Body style clamps, but in normal applications, these clamps are more than adequate.Remember that clamping too tightly will compromise the glue joint anyway (by squeezing out too much glue).

These clamps are first rate in fit and finish -- typical Bessey quality, and are lighter and easier to handle than the K-Body clamps.I use mine in nearly every project, and I highly recommend them.Try them! You won't be disappointed!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent clamps with few drawbacks
I recenlty ordered a pair of these clamps, and let me say that they are excellent. Even clamping pressure, large jaws, and a neat little plastic "foot" at the end that flips down to hold the clamp securly on a flat surface. While not as expensive, strong or heavy as bessey's famous "k-body" clamps, these will do an excellent job as hold-down clamps for securing workpeices to benches while routing, sanding, cutting bisucits and the like. While most will say that a quick grip is fine for this, I would reply that for a few dollars more, you get so much more. These work excellent as assembly clamps, too. There glue-resistant surface and high pressure makes them great for truing doors, and glue-ups of small panels. While these would most likely not cut it for a professional woodwooker or cabinet maker, for the home shop owner, they are great deals for the price. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another fine Bessey product
I bought this clamp to use for light duty small projects and it has lived up to my expectations. One would possibly assume that since the UniKlamp is the light duty and less expensive version of the K-Body it wouldn't be made to the same standard. Nothing could be more wrong. This clamp is made in Germany like its bigger brother, and the quality is top notch. It performs as well as the K-Body, but is smaller and lighter, and perfect for jobs not requiring the heft of the K-Body clamp. It is still more expensive than comparable clamps but you get what you pay for. I'll add that this is my umpteenth purchase from Amazon and again I have been thoroughly pleased with both service and product. Don't waste your money on cheap junk - buy quality and you won't ever look back. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bessey Tradesman Clamps
Already have 8 of the TG4.008 clamps and found them so handy wanted to buy several more. They're great for all sorts of glue up situations.Very fast and very strong. The non-marring pads spread the force over larger area and don't damage the wood if you use some caution. With these clamps and most others its easy to apply too much force and starve the glue joint. This package is a good deal and look forward to trying the slightly deeper 5.5" throat on the second clamp.Expect it will give me some additional flexibility on occasion but frankly the smaller clamps have been just fine. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars K Clamp Bessey vs Gross Stabil
I own several K Clamps from Bessey and I am not very happy with it. The major thing is the plastic. In case the Clamps fall, it will break immediatly. I had this experience a few times. You can not even get any spare parts.
The Gross Stabil Clamps which I own last longer and not one broke. But even if it would, you can buy the parts seperate.

Everything else is fine with both Clamps. There is no difference in the daily use.
The good thing on the Gross Clamps is that they are a few $ cheaper, but not huge amounts.

5-0 out of 5 stars best klamps I own
Until I bought a few pair of these things I couldn't understand what the fuss was about. You put wood between two pieces of metal connected by a screw - it's clamped!Wrong, oh, wrong was I.I've since bought a "few" more:-)I bought some of the bigger K-body's as well for their size and strength, but they are heavier and cost a lot more. And as the other review stated, if you can't figure out how to use 'em - send 'em to me - I can't get enough clamps in the shop!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Clamping Power, Lighter than the "Big" Besseys

First of all, I laughed until my sides hurt from reading that other review. What the heck was going on there?

Anyway, it wasn't written by anyone who used these clamps.I have some of them, and here's the "real deal."First of all, they're Besseys, so the quality is typical Bessey -- first rate.If you're buying these to upgrade from the orange "Pony" brand clamps, the Besseys are a definite improvement. They're much much heavier. If, on the other hand, you're going to compare them to the standard Bessey's, which are much more $$$, you're not going to be pleased.

The real benefit with the UniKlamp is the light weight. Many times, I would reach for Pony's or some other light-duty clamp just to keep from having to wield one of the big Besseys, since they're so heavy. The UniKlamp is somewhere in-between the two, and I find myself using them an awful lot.In fact, they're my favorite clamp now.

Oh... and if you can't figure out how to use them (as in the other review), send them to me!

Be safe!

2-0 out of 5 stars Could be better engineered
While I love my Bessey clamps, these blocks are less than impressive. The clamp falls below the block top creating an uneven surface for the glue up.The blocks should be made not to protrude above the clamp bar. That way the clamp bar provides a straight resting area for the wood to lay flat.

I will try to remove the top quarter inch from the blocks to make them usable.Otherwise make your own.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice to have, but....
if you have time, you can make yourself a set of these with 4x4. These things are handy when you clamp things like frame, cabinet door or even small window frame like I did recently (I have 40" and 50" Bessey's). They hold the clamps level and square once set. But if you have a dado blade, you could make yourself a set of these with 2x2 or 4x4 blocks and save some money. It seems to me only one slot being used at a time, so you don't have to cut two parallel slots on the same block only two perpenticular ones, one deep one shallow.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice clamping aid
These blocks are a nice clamping aid. They make it easy to clamp in two directions at once with Bessey K-Body clamps. The only down side is that they are a little pricey. You can get them in a bundle with Bessey K-Body clamps here at Amazon, which is a good deal. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars These are nice clamps for a medium-heavy duty clamp
These heavy duty models from Bessey are a lot beefier than the picture shows. Definitely a strong clamp. I bought a couple to hold things down on the drill press, and for general purpose work. The clamping mechanism works well without any hassles. Easy to adjust, lot's of pressure, and looks substantial. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bessy bar clamps puts the strangle hold on the competition
By far, Bessy clamps beats the competition. You cannot buy a better clamp of this type (or any type for that matter) than a Bessy. The design allowspositive, firm pressure to be placed on the working surface. The oversizedwooden handles allow just the right amount of torque to be used withoutbusting your knuckles. The only drawback to this clamp is the tendency forthe free arm to slide down the bar when using it inverted. However, itslightweight and German manufacturing more than make up for anyshortcomings. You can't go wring with these clamps. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The design on paper sounds like a dream come true
I bought two of these, and when I purchased them, I thought what a great idea. I have the Quick Grips, and like the ease of use. When I saw that these took the quick grip principle and took it a step farther, with a screw vise, I jumped at buying them. I saw Norm Abrams on TV using the Bessey Super Grip clamp style, and then discovered these Powergrips. It seemed to me the Powergrips would be a better idea, than having to squeeze, adjust, and squeeze adjust, the way you do with vice grips, and the way the super grip Besseys work. I saw in an eariler taped show, that Norm felt the same way, he used the Powergrips also. He now uses the Super Grips, and I am sorry I didn't buy those instead.
Ok so onto the clamp. It has plenty of torque, but unfortunately, the little knob on the back of the clamp, which is designed to release the clamp for readjusting, turns out to be a little bear to work. It takes a decent amount of finagiling to get it to work. It is not that the button does not work, it is more of a feeling that the whole procedure is hanging up, due in part to the criticalness of the alignment of the shaft creating a binding. Not something you want to do, when you anticipated a quick grip release. Additionally, as others have mentioned, you have to be careful to leave a certain amount of thread distance open, so that when you want to release the clamp, you can. It is easy to simply pump up the quick grip feature, up to the edge of your work, then finish the job with the screw clamp. If you have that screw device, bottomed out, and you use it as a quick grip, their is no way to get that dysfunctional in the first place, release knob to let go. This clamp depends on unscrewing the clamp to release it. No problem as long as you remember to leave some thread space, and not bottom it out. It is a bad enough problem that you would have to hacksaw the clamp apart if you ever tightened it up that way. Logically, you could be prone to do that. It is natural, once you are accustomed to quick grips, that you squeeze the handle repeatedly until you tighten it up against your work surface. Ifyou don't set the screw tightener with enough thread to do the release job, your screwed. The problem gets worse, when you realize that each time you release the clamp by unscrewing it, your are running it closer, and closer to the no thread situation. So you have to kind of be afraid of the clamp, and continually check to be sure you have not unthreaded it all the way.
I, like Norm Abrams, find the Supergrips to be more useful, for the above reasons. All in all, if the release knob was easier to use, and it was made in such a way, so that when tightened, the release knob would actually release the entire clamp, then it would be a winning situation.
My hat is off to Bessey for their entire clamping tool line, but they need to upgrade this design with a better release mechanism. Somewhere in the future, a pair of Supergrips will be in the making for me. I still use these powergrips, and do kind of like them, albeit I have to break my concentration while using them to make sure of not getting trapped without thread space, and not being able to use them with one hand, except to squeeze them together. That release knob on the back takes two hands to use. One on the clamps, and a separate one to work the knob area.
Enough said, don't let the concept fool you. Hope this helps.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Tool!
After reading some of the other reviews, I realized how clueless some people are in using tools. This clamp is a very specialized tool which does one thing better than any other clamp I've seen.It is meant for those occassions where you are holding something to be clamped in one hand and therefore only have your other hand to operate the clamp. The beauty of this clamp is that you use the squeeze lever to cinch the clamp securely to the items being clamped and then use the traditional screw mechanism to really tighten whatever it is your clamping.Contrary to another review, the lever is only meant to get the clamp tight enough to then use the screw mechanism where you get the full power of a traditional clamp. And yes, you do have to leave a few threads on the screw mechanism when you clamp anything so you can back the screw away from the clamped objects and then quick release. The first time you don't do that you'll see the problem you've created for yourself.
In summary, this is an exceptionally good specialized tool for one hand clamping jobs for use by "thinking" people

2-0 out of 5 stars Overpriced, overdesigned
I love tools and that together with the look and feel of these and the fact that I spent so much should have guaranteed a positive review.Unfortunately, in actual use these are a pain. They are difficult to use one-handed. When adjusting you need to release with one hand while holding square to slide the other. When pumping them closed they don't really get that tight so you'll end out switching to the screw adjustment.I might forgive that but you also have to be careful to leave sufficient thread to release since unscrewing is the only release mechanism.

So, save your $$ and get the Bessey tradesman clamps.Just slip it into position while putting it on, and twist it tight. You can get several Tradesmen for the price of one Powergrip. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars For regular duty clamping, these can't be beat
The nice thing about the Bessey Tradesmen's, is that they are heavier duty than the competition, in the medium duty class, and you don't have to take out a second mortgage to afford a set of them. The locking mechanism works without any hassles, and the grip is strong. All in all a nice piece of equipment. A major competitor sells this model for less money, but it is also a lighter weight clamp. I like them all. Bessey makes great stuff, you can't go wrong with these. They are a great general purpose clamp. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Its an extremely well designed tool.
I own several of these Bessey clamps in various lengths, and I think the world of them.I have never experienced the bar "bowing" like other clamp bars tend to do.With a reasonable pricetag, I think these aresome of the better all-around clamps on the market.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great clamp for around the house projects.
This clamp is the perfect little tool to have around your house when you're building or mending small drawers or chairs. This is not a heavy duty piece, but you can manually tighten it to the point where it damagesyour object. Its important to remember that it doesnt have cushions andyou need to use some kind of wooden or hard rubber spacer to protect thesurface of your object.

This clamp is the kind of tool that once you haveit you'll wonder why you didnt buy one sooner.I have them in severaldifferent lengths and would be lost without them. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bessy Beast
The picture shown at this time is not the clamp, that is clearly not even close to a 5-1/2" throat depth.Anyhow back to the review.I had purchased 4 of these Beefy monsters to clamp some boards together to glue them.I definitely got my money worth.First off they are ridiculously oversized (big time kudos from me) huge handle, thick rail and jaws.Coming standard with big pads to protect the workpiece was also great. It weighs quite a bit too, which I like.In fact the only reason I would say someone would not like these clamps is because they are not a big, strong person, and just physically could not handle these clamps regularly.I am a pretty big guy so I can appreciate things made my size.Bessy, in my opinion, makes the best clamps around, and this is just another example of their quality products.

5-0 out of 5 stars These are a nice clamp for a medium-heavy duty clamp
These heavy duty models from Bessey are a lot beefier than the picture shows. Definitely a strong clamp. I bought a couple to hold things down on the drill press, and for general purpose work. The clamping mechanism works well without any hassles. Easy to adjust, lot's of pressure, and looks substantial. Highly recommended. ... Read more
