Don't find yourself strung out.
So what did you want to know? I started my trimming carrier with the Black & Decker Automatic Feed Spool (AFS). It is just plug and go. I prefer my trimmer string to come from Black & Decker. This way I will not come unraveled trying to use some cheap substitute. The spools last longer than expected. But all good things come to an end and you don't want to be half way through the yard when you find your self strung out.

Piece of junk
This drill was the biggest piece of crap I've ever owned.It quit working within a few months.The batteries didn't hold their charge.Overall, a major waste of money, except it was a gift.

The comercial really is accurate (Imagine That)
Bought one of these saws for my Mom who is 70 years old so she could do some minor pruning of trees in here garden and yard...WOW she is now a saw hog.The weight was just right and did not tire her, what she calls flabby arms.As well as superior ease in handling she was also impressed with the durability of the battery after a full charge.It was a little more than I wanted to pay but the money I will save on trips to her house and electical tape from fixing cut through extension cords will more than be payed for.She liked it so much and I was impressed with her ability to use it, I'm getting one for the wife as well.Maybe now I can hit the links on a weekend. ... Good but not perfect
I used super saver shipping and it took about 3 weeks to get it. When it finally arrived, it was packaged well and after a charge fired right up.

I need to clip the hedges about 3 times a summer.
So far I've trimmed about 25 bushes and it works as well as the old electric one it replaced. Its light and so far the battery has held a charge well. I really like not having to use the extenstion cord which my Dad cut with the previous corded trimmer.

A couple complaints are that my right hand gets a cramp after about 20 minutes as it tends to continually squeeze the on/off switch probably much harder than necessary. I also notice that the plastic case seems to separate a bit when I am moving through heavy work. I'm sure there are better/study units out there but for the occasional work I do, this fits the bill. One other nice thing is I have some other tools which also use the 14.4 Volt batteries from B&D. ... Read more

Good value for the money
I wanted a reconditioned tool because the cost was cheaper than a brand new one. Considering I do yardwork only 1-2 times per month, I didn't need a "really good" one.

This B&D trimmer did a good job on branches up to 3/8" thick. Anything thicker will result in "tearing" instead of cutting.

It's fairly loud and the ergonomics are not that great. However, for the price I paid here on Amazon, it is a good deal.

The best!
If you are looking for a trimmer that can deal with shrubs and bushes in the heat, or extended running time, this is it! The price is appropriate, and the quality that you will get from it is outstanding!

Last year I bought a lawn mower; my wife was so satisfied with this purchase from Amazon, that this was the first place she looked when shopping for a badly needed hedge trimmer.

Suffice to say, we were not disappointed. The purchase arrived at our home from the Amazon.com Tool Crib in North Dakota in a timely manner via UPS; the hedge trimmer was already assembled, in mint condition (for a reconditioned item), and it came with a new purchase warranty, but not at a new-purchase price.

It is an excellent trimmer; sturdy, lightweight and easily manuverable. My 100lb. wife took a turn playing with it and was able to wield this baby in a manner that make a fan of the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" movies proud!

For the price, I would highly recommend this product, if you are in the market for a good, reliable, sturdy and easy-to-use hedge trimmer.

good for branches up to 1/8" thick, not good on grass
It is just not good on grass even though photos on the box show use in
that situation -- doesn't slice but rather chomps through the area and
just will not cut through grass.So, the long handled attachment
accessory with wheels (for trimming and edging) is not useful.The
long handled attachment also is not balanced so even though you have
more reach for taller bushes or areas closer to the ground, you have
to torque both wrists to swing the trimmer around.

However on shrubbery, it shaves well.Think of how you use a hair
trimmer - that is how it trims bushes and shrubs.

It's lightweight and not intimidating as a gas powered model -- my
wife can use it without feeling scared.

Shrubbers and plants come in different sizes...
If you have bought one of these items and don't like it, that's probably why. You have to buy tools based on the type of job and outcome expectations. Your job requires a larger size trimmer.

I'm a big fan of Black & Decker. They've been making affordable and quality products for decades. The 6" cordless shrubber I just bought is no exception. However, you need to buy tools that fit the job. No tool does everything. That said, this shrubber is good for small plants, ground covers, and shrubs with thin stems and branches. I've used it on Azaleas, miniature Gardenias, English Ivy, and other assorted small stem shrubs. On a few of my shrubs, the stalk is a bit big for the tool I bought, so it gets stuck and you have to pull out the stem or branch. But applied correctly, it works well and holds a charge for longer than I expected.

Good for the Size
After having used my parents' 2 foot shrubber, and not knowing much about shrubbers, I purchased this one thinking a rechargeable one would beat their plug-in variety. While the cordlessness is a great feature and the thing has an impressive life, I was surprised by the size of this thing. I guess I should've paid more attention to the 6-inch blade description rather than the rechargeable feature. It works great for small shrubs here and there, but for a 7 foot tall bush in the back yard, it is simply adequate. So just be sure you buy the right sized blade. Great drill ... but know your tools.
I've been using this drill for almost a year and it is my FAVORITE power drill. I can't say enough great things about this drill ... but I knew it had limits when I bought it.

I have yet to see a drill with a tooless chuck that grips strandard (round end) drill bits without the bits spinning when they hit resistance. If you desire a hand-tightened chuck for ease of use, then you need to understand the tradeoff.

I'm surprised so many previous reviewers complained of things like, "The chuck can't be hand tightened enough to make it usefull for standard drill bits. As soon as there is any resistance the bit just free spins in the chuck. The only way around this is to get all hex end bits so that the chuck teeth have multiple edges to grab to." I always thought that hex-end bits were DESIGNED for hand-tightened chucks. So, if you have a drill with a hand-tightened chuck you need hex-end bits.

What's the surprise?

Anyway, this is a GREAT drill.

Avoid this product
I agree with other reviewers - this drill is worthless because the chuck won't hold a bit.I like the concept and I got a great deal on it ($62) but in the end I took it back because A DRILL THAT WON'T HOLD A BIT IS WORTHLESS.I ended up getting a 12 volt Bosch and I am much happier now - more expensive, but I find the single-handed locking chuck just as easy to swap bits as with the Firestorm setup and I know I have a much better quality product.I have yet to find a Black and Decker product that is worthwhile and probably never will, since I am done ever purchasing their stuff.Also, this is coming from a weekend hobbyist doing home improvment projects and not from a professional contractor.

First of all I went through 4 different B&D drills before I swore off the whole line.

If you need a cordless screwdriver and that is absolutly it, then these are ok drills, but they are useless as a drill.The chuck can't be hand tightened enough to make it usefull for standard drill bits.As soon as there is any resistance the bit just free spins in the chuck.The only way around this is to get all hex end bits so that the chuck teeth have multiple edges to grab to.

Battery life was another problem I had with the B&D drills.It would put in a bunch of screws but when I tried to drill a hole in a pine 2x4 it would die out after just 2-3 holes.Not exactly usefull when I'm trying to drill pilot holes.

The last straw when when I bought a 14.4 model and it would only spin in reverse (the direction pin was broken)...

I now own a 18v Skil and couldn't be happier.. for only 10$ more I got a more powerful drill (when I set it to high torque it allmost dislocated my arm) with 2 batteries and a chuck that will actually hold a standard bit. ... Read more

Cute, ergonomic, but.....
I bought this jig saw based on its ergonomics and its ability to be used in projects beyond cutting. However, I had to return it due to some issues:

1. It is underpowered. It was extremely difficult for me to cut through wood, even though it wasn't as thick.

2. The cuts are not straight as it is very difficult to cut when you have to "push" the saw for it to work. My arms were hurting when I finish cutting a piece of pine measuring 3/4" x 12" x 3". This saw has a very nice attachment, ostencibly to use one of the borders (which needs to be parallel to the cut) as guide during cutting. However, you need to have at a minimum distance between that border and the cut of about six inches. In my case, the width of the piece of wood was about 3 inches so it did not work.

3. It has plenty of nice accessories (such as an add-in for sanding) but one can also do so by using a drill, with a sanding kit.

Very nice looking tool, but not as useful as I expected. I bought the Black & Decker JS600K (which is the same manufacturer as the HS600K) and the difference is noticeable. The JS600K is not only more powerful and useful but also it is $10 cheaper.

If you are looking for a sig saw, do yourself a favor and don't get distracted by the multitasking ability of this machine.

Powerful all around vacuum for the garage
Works pretty cool sucking up lint from the dryer lint filter, sucking up stuff in the floor mats.Very loud unit, so don't expect it to be a quiet vacuum because it's not.

The attachments are great but the T nozzle isn't all that great when trying to pickup my Dalmations dog hairs from the garage floor (it pushes some of it around).

I also use it to clean out my bagless vacuum's container since that can be messy when dumping out.Also use it to pick up the kitty litter that's spilled out of the cat box.

It does what it's supposed to do.Still waiting to use it for a wet spill and see how that works out.

For the price, it's a good unit and with FREE SHIPPING you can't really go wrong.

I was surprised to find that a low cost vac could be so well made. Changing from vac to blower takes only a few seconds. The quality is first rate. Awesome Hammer Drill for the Price!
I'm very happy with this drill. I'm an electrician's apprentice and use this drill for work. Being at a lower pay scale, I can't afford the DeWalt product line. This drill has worked very well drilling 1/4" holes in cement block for plastic anchors. I also use it with a Vari-bit up to 7/8" through metal troughs. I had the BD 18v drill and was NOT satisfied with it. The quick change chuck was a nice feature but the drill lacked torque. The chuck also had very poor grip on straight shaft bits. I wanted to stay with an 18v system to go with circ & reciprocating saws. However, the 24v hammer drill makes it worth carrying 2 different battery chargers to the job site. I've only had it a month so I only gave it 4 stars. I'm taking a gamble to see if a drill that's half the price of the deWalt will be durable enough. Not the best jigsaw
I picked up this jigsaw because of the relatively low price and because my father has a B&D jigsaw that has never given him any problems.I also liked the quick clamp blade system.

For light work around my house the saw does an adequate job.However, as soon as I cut anything tougher than 3/4 inch particle board I notice the blade wandering.At first, I thought I was feeding the saw too fast but even when creeping through the material (pine 1x6 as well as a 1 3/8 inch solid core door) the blade still wanders.

Additionally, the dust blower/extractor doesn't work very well.

Finally, this little saw really gives you a workout from all of the vibration that it produces.

If you only need a light duty jigsaw and don't want to spend a bunch of money, this saw will work for you.If you will be cutting tougher stock, I would recommend spending the extra money and going with a higher end saw (personally, I have my eye on the new Bosch jigsaw, as 6.4 amps should cut through anything).

Just plain junk
After buying this Black & Decker jig saw, I would never buy another B&D tool.I saw a jig saw from Skil for $5 less, but it didn't have all the features this one did, so I went for the B&D.The skid plate is held on by 2 screws, and very poorly.... I couldn't get it tight enough to not bevel the board I was cutting.The knob for turning the blade popped apart the first time I went to try it, had to go searching for the spring.Absolutely no quality engineered into this tool.I returned it after trying to use it for about a week and purchased the much better made Skil.

Shook a lot but did the job.
Just bought this saw today to help round some plyboard edges.By the 4th corner I had it perfected...but the saw still shook a lot.I had it cranked on 6 so maybe that's why (I like the variable speed feature).Quick blade insertion mechanism was fantastic and I did not have the blade pop out even once.I tried to use the included tool to cut some straight 1 inch cuts but I couldn't keep the screw tight enough to maintain the 1 inch margin... B&D, good idea but you need some other way to secure this (even torque with a wrench didn't help).I didn't attempt using it for the circular cuts, just used a compass instead which did the job.
Nicely removes dust as you saw, although my vacuum cleaner didn't fit onto the contraption that blows the dust out the back (good idea though).I'm happy with the saw and the soft-cover case for the price I paid. ... Read more

Unfortunately, for such a handy product, the sharpness of the blades does not last beyond a few uses. Even filing the blades to re-sharpen them does not work.Be prepared to replace the blades often, which are not cheap.It's a shame the quality of the blades is so poor--probably the cheap metal used--because it damages the reputation of Black and Decker.

excellent addition to DS600 shrubber
We bought this when we bought the DS600K Shrubber because we intended to use the shrubber to reach very high growth on two of our bushes.It is very well designed in that you plug the shrubber into the bottom of the handle and then have power control available at the grip of the extender's handle.Also you can rotate the shrubber in a 45 degree angle at the base of the extender to better position it for reaching up for trimming. The missing star is because the weight of the shrubber on the end of the extender feels heavy and unbalanced.

Longevity of tool
The tool is manufactured to be replaced when the battery has to be replaced. On initial inquiries,local home centers will not repair it unless bought at their stores and under warranty. B&D charges $23 for the replacement battery and this does not include labor. If you understand its cheaper to get a new one instead of replacing the battery, then it's a nice tool.

Whether this is a great tool depends...
Whether this is a great tool depends on your needs and expactations .I have one that I've used to renovate three rooms, one room included hanging 16 sheets ot sheetrock (including the ceiling which took approx 60 screws for each panel). The other two rooms had minor sheetrock work and a lot of screwing through wood.

I'm happy with it. My expectations were to get a power driver that didn't break my arm to wield or my bank account to buy. This was the one... even putting many screws into a piece of sheetrock overhead is tolerable weight-wize.

My only advice (as with any driver) is to GET A SECOND BATTERY with your purchase if you are doing continuous stuff like sheetrock (Amazon sells them). I found the fully-charged battery to fully peter out after about 80 screws, which limited my ability on hanging the ceilings to one panel per charging (about 16 hours)... but that's OK... being older and I found I was pretty maxed out on the ceiling work myself about the same time the drill was, so the drill rested and I did wiring. (I'm at this site now to get that second battery).

The Amazon.com price is excellent for this tool. I paid $10 more when I got mine about a year ago. Super Saver shipping makes it a great deal!

Black and Decker 9.6 Volt cordless drill
I have had my 9.6 B+D cordless drill for over 2 years.
This drill as you know is one of the many light weights on the
market.
As a screw driver it has served me well.It will even tackle a 2.5
inch number 8 screw without to much difficulty.However as a drill
I find it has no torqe.Anything over 5/16 it stuggles to cope with numerous holes.As a diy tool it,s fine,but you must have a second battery especially if you intend to work all day with it.
Unfortunately over here in England the batterys can cost as much as the drill itself.When you buy a cordless drill whatever the make,think about what a second battery will cost you because the chances are you will need one.
Back to Black and Decker.This drill has lasted well upto now,and I would buy another one, but a higher voltage.A lot of people get excited about Dewalt and Makita etc and I,ve no doubt that they are the best,but if you want a reliable tool with some good
features that you dont have to get a mortgage to pay for, than consider a Black and Decker.

Solid, strong, big case, missing some features
I decided to purchase the 9.6v model over the slightly smaller ones as I justified in my head that I'm a new homeowner and had numerous remodeling and fix-er-up projects waiting for me.I wanted the power and the battery life that would last me the whole day if need be.

For the novice mindset (forgive me professionals), a cordless drill is a cordless drill and most people only care about battery life, power, and features.So how do I review this?Simple categories:

Pros: Solid construction, feels good in the hand, easy bit replacement, large viewable numbers on clutch, idiot proof charger, long battery life, small slot in base handle to store bit, sturdy case, quick & easy access to forward and reverse modes, great power for the home enthusiast, included bit is philips on one side, flat on the other.

Cons: No battery meter (a feature that is in many B&D models, but not here), case seems to be bigger than it needs to be and a lot of wasted room inside where one could store additional bits, small base makes for drill to be top heavy and will never stand up straight (always laying down), only one included bit that seem short, 9.6v batteries are not the most common stocked in many stores for replacement but are indeed available, large chuck may make it difficult for bit to reach tight areas.I was having a little trouble replacing some cabinets because of chuck size....I really just needed a longer bit to solve this.

Overall, a great standard cordless drill for those occasional jobs about the house that are more involved than just picture hanging.Large size may be difficult for some women to handle.Great power, battery life and sturdy case for the price. ... Read more

Low frills, economical belt sander
Most of the time, I buy the tools that get the best reviews... and when it comes to a router, planer or table saw, that's not a bad idea.In my world, it's unnecessary to apply the same scrutiny to a belt sander - after all, this is not a tool for finish sanding.This is for fast, aggressive removal of material.
