I thought this was a POWER tool
I wish there was a review of this item available before i bought it.The power behind this tool is extremely lacking to the point that there were some screws that were too much for it to drive but even my 10 year old daughter could screw in with a regular screwdriver.A serious waste of money.

nice design but no power

Where is the UL seal?
This is an excelent grinder.I delayed getting it because I could not determine why it was not UL listed.I have two other grinders... a top of the line Sears Craftsman and Dewalt's best model... it's easier to have three grinders than to be changing attachments all the time.I didn't want to by a third top of the line unit.This one is comfortable, powerful, and the power switch is in a logical location and is easy to turn off quickly... beware some other low-priced (non-UL) grinders have a very clumsy switch which could be difficult to ulock and turn off in an emergency.I have not been able to determine why this one is not UL listed... I called B&D and they gave me the run-around... I bought the grinder anyway.

Easy to use
The Black and Decker G850 is a breeze to use.I needed a grinder for a project and spent more time then I should have looking for one at a good price and that would meet my needs.I actually took a chance on this grinder.I have used other small angle grinders at work,,but this one was much easier to handle.I could grip it at the center,,near the top or about anywhere and the balance was great.Sure makes it easy on the arms.I also like the area were the switch is at, toward the rear, under the handle. ... HS 1010 Hedge Hog
I agree with two out of three of the other reviews.The Hedge hog runs smooth, but does not cut small growth.It just smashes them, and leaves the stem hanging on the bush.This is probably due to the very short (1/8") cutting blades.I don't like to be negative, but just wanted to alert others to this problem.I bought a Black&Decker HT-2000 with the old fashioned large blades, and it works great.

I'm in love with a beautiful Hog!
I was in trouble...with all the rain we've had the vegetation was overtaking the house...in came the Hog to save the day!In just a short period of time it cut things down to size.Three days work was reduced to three hours!Cool features of this machine include the absence of a cord (so that you don't accidentally cut off the main cord), choice of auto and manual power (great when you're starting to fatigue) and the ability to cut thick, woody stems (of which I had plenty).Magically, the leaves flew off the bushes and now my yard is littered with piles of leaves which my hubbie has volunteered to clean up.
This little Hog turned hard yardwork into fun ....it's well worth the money.
I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Black & Decker Hedge Hog HS1010
This double action hedge trimmer is no better than one I bought 20 years ago. (And Quit using after half a season).The reason for the displeasure is that it does not cut the branches off cleanly, it chews or nibbles at them until some of them fall off.As with all their other models the blade moves much too fast.The double action models only add to the problem.

Last summer I used a German manufactured hedge trimmer that operated much slower.It had llolypop shaped tines that actually held the branches forcing them into the blades rather than away.This trimmer worked with ease and cut branches of all sizes on hedges and various types of bushes and ornamental trees. Unfortunately this unit was a European model that operated on 220 volts and they do not manufacture a 110 volt model for export. ... Read more

Original RTX
I bought this tool 4 years ago because it was recommended, and on sale.The bearings finally went out and the shaft started to wobble extremely, making the tool suddenly and completely unusable.My first instinct was to take it apart, but instead I got the owners manual, which I'd saved, and discovered that it had a five year warranty, it also gave a number to call.Somone at Black and Decker soon answered the phone, but told me that the tool only had a 2 year warranty.I told her that my owners manual didn't agree.She checked, and said I was correct.She offered to send me a return postage label, which I got a few days later.About two weeks went by and I received a brand new RTX.The new ones do only have a two year warranty.

The tool worked great for 4 years and then it was replaced for free.I'd say Black and Decker has pretty good customer service.At least by my experience.

Save your money for Dremel instead!!
I got this tool from my wife last Christmas. I wanted a Dremel-type tool to do household projects and minor repairs. The wand tool crapped out within a month, bursting through the shaft and cutting my arm. I would have returned it but smashed it out of frustration. Next the motor on the RTX started "stuttering" at high RPM's. It would sometimes stop all together. Plus the tool overheats if used for more that twenty minutes or so. That was six months ago. "Customer Service" reeks. Someone needs to teach them that the key to they're jobs is...you guessed it, service. I don't think a need to expound on that.The RTX was a waste of money-I'm seriously re-considering ever buying Black & Decker anything ever again. I'm saving for a Dremel. There's a reason they've been around for decades-they work.

Works Great until you need a new chuck
My B&D has performed flawlessly for a couple of years. I have used it to cut all kinds of stuff. My only problem is when trying to get a new chuck.Mine is worn out on the inside and it is difficult to tighten.All the dealers I've been to, even those who sell B&D tools, only sell Dremel accessories.For most accessories this works fine, but the Dremel chucks are threaded differently than B&D and they are NOT interchangeable. 4 1/2It's Not the Size of the Blade; It's How You Use It
This small, light weight trimming/edging tool cuts in 9-inch swathes at a time. Because of its size, it is more controllable than the larger (12" - 14") trimmers.

The larger, more powerful trimmers are not suitable for many lawns. I took back one because of its imprecise cutting. The powerful motor resulted in the shredding of a wood edging that separates the lawn from an adjacent mulched area.

One problem with all trimmers is that there is nothing to catch the flying bits of lawn.The only thing that might help in the future is to lay a sheet over the mulched area adjacent to the lawn to catch the cuttings, and move the sheet as I go along. Perhaps this should come with a sheet? Again, the smaller, less powerful machine's precision reduces excess trimmings. This is also a less noisy machine and is easier to store than the more powerful trimmers.

Features include a trimming option so that you can trim lawn under protruding bushes or around rocks, etc. There's also a locking feature for the electric cord. YOu do need to occasionally "bump" the machine (literally lighting hitting it against the lawn) to advance the cutting wire, this takes a little practice to get right. However, the learning curve is fast, after a few outings I thought this was a useful machine and money well spent.

Great every day, light duty tool.
I have had this toolset for a while now and it is still the most used item in my tool chest. For all the little home improvement projects it works great. You can drill, saw and sand and there is room in the case for other tools.
I recommend getting a quick-lock drill/driver set to take full advantage of the portability.
I also recommend getting the 1 hour charger for the battery packs. The batteries are the only weak point of this tool. They wear out fast and the charger that comes with the set takes FOREVER to charge them up again. So if you are tackling a bigger project you might run out of power before you are done and then have to wait. Sucks bg time!

Seems like an awsome deal!
While I never used the product mentioned, I own a Black and Decker 18v drill and am totally satisfied. Considering all the tools, this product seems like a real score for the price. I would love a gift like this...

At 700 RPM and 12v, the drill might only be useful for light to medium duty work (cutting doorknob holes or drilling into metal seems like it would be pushing it) but for easy work like making holes in the wall to hang stuff or assembling Ikea furniture it should be adequate. ... Read more

costly replacement pads
I gave this to my dad for xmas.At first he was really psyched.It worked well the first time that he used it, but you need to replace the pads everytime you use it and it does not come with any extras.When he searched around for replacement pads he found it almost impossible to locate them at a hardware or electronics store.The best that he could do was have them ordered, which cost a ridiculous amount of money.It's just like home printers for your computer: the actual printer is really affordable, but where they get you is the cost of the ink cartridge.I guess B&D took a peice out of the hewlett packard business model.

For a motorcycle, it's a charm
I'm not an advocate of B/D products. They're cheaply made, and, you get what you pay for. Nonetheless, I was in a hurry to acquire a 6" waver/polisher for my motorcycle. And since I would be using this product merely once a week, I didn't want to fork out my life's pension for, say... a porter cable. The unit is compact enough to polish the tight space-confining places on a bike. It's orbital action is fine. 10-feet of cord is a plus. Only thing I dislike about the unit is the elastic-style pads that are shipped. And, the applicator pad is foam. Yuk. Then again... it's Black and Decker. Need I say more?
Been using the product for about 3 weeks now. No malfunction problems so far. However, something tells me the switch will be the first to go. It's not a prominent switch, making it tricky (at times) to turn on and off.
In sum, I think it's work the purchase... as long as it won't be used for some heavy duty, constant detailing.

Great Polisher!
I recieved this polisher as a gift and could not have been happier. It is easy to use and light enough that most people can reach with it and still maintain control. Although the thought of a cordless unit is nice, I just can't see the same ROI in the long run. I noticed that someone wrote a review stating that the pad blew apart, I luckly had no issues with this being a problem. Besides, it's B&D, they have fantastic service and you can get parts or a replacement unit easily.
It would be nice to have a bigger pad relative to the body width, but with some creativity I have enhanced the diameter and outfitted it with some alternate pads. ... Read more

This is my safety spare.
You are supposed to sharpen the blade periodically. The manual suggests about twice in a cutting season. My lawn is so small that it may take a couple of seasons for that to be required. The real reason I call this my safety spare is that I am afraid that the technology will change before I need it. This keeps me from having to buy it on the after market. In the mean time it is oiled and hanging on the garage wall just incase I "accidentally" run over my neighbor's pink flamingo ordainments and damage the blade. ... Read more

Don't buy it!
The .065 trim line just doesn't hold up, and I had to open the feeder and redo the trim line almost every minutes.
I am gonna return it this weekend.

B&D 8" String Trimmer, What a Disappointment!
Simply put, this trimmer is suited for light jobs at best.I don't consider my application heavy duty.It's just your normal yard trimming around trees, fence, sidwalk, etc.

The .060 trim line just doesn't hold up and the bump line feeder either continually jammed or didn't work at all.During the first and only use, I had to take the feeder apart roughly 6 times.

The battery charge held up as I didn't loose power in the 15 minutes of actual operation time (not including repair time).

It is light weight and easy to handle.Easy assembly.

The unit was returned to the store after it's first use in exchange for a slightly more expensive gas trimmer.

I would give this a one rating, but I'll give this trimmer the benefit of the doubt in hopes it can function in maybe a smaller setting.However, like I said, my application is not heavy-duty.

More than a few minutes of trimming time per charge!!
I used this trimmer for the first time last night and it was GREAT!! I trimmed around my entire yard and it was still going strong! No cords or gas/oil mixtures to mess with is GREAT!!
Per the owners manual, you don't have to let the charge go completely "dead" before recharging, unlike some of the other cordless trimmers. When your done just hang it back on the wall bracket/charger(it was included), and it will be ready for the next time. It does need to be charged for 24 hours before the first use, but it was worth the wait! ... Read more

A tip for the sandpaper
This sander seems to do a good job although I don't have much experience with other sanders. Like most who have written reviews I am not a big fan of the proprietary hook and loop sandpaper replacements that are sold. However, after quickly running through a batch of it and not having replacements on hand, I traced the outline of the sandpaper pad out on a sheet of regular sandpaper and cut it out. I then took some spray adhesive (I used 3M high strength 90 I had on hand)and coated the top (grit side) of the old used up pad and pressed on to this the back of the cutout sandpaper and held for about 10 seconds and proceeded to sand the walls in my bathroom for painting. Total time for this process the first time was a couple of minutes. Using this method I have been able to use whatever grit sandpaper I like at 1/4 of the cost of the B&D replacements. Even better I am able to use the resilient stuff that lasts longer so I have to change much less frequently.

Get what you pay for...maybe a little less
I bought this some time ago to use as a general sander.It is too light duty and too much "try to please everyone," though.The thing makes waay to much noise, I hope MY dust collector (not ONCE have I taken dust out if it since it has never collected any) fell off, it seems that some plastic piece rattles around in that area and is magnifying the noise the sander makes.As I said, although this sander does sand, I would not recommend it even for medium jobs, such as sanding a piece of wood with rough paper (grits 50, 80, 120) before you get to the finish (220+ grit) step.It just takes too long to sand with this sander.

Also,a *big* bother for me:The sandpaper you can get for this at a superstore comes with tear-away pieces for the other B&D sanders (mouse, detail, whatever).Well I hate it because the stupid sandpaper tears in the tear away perforations (since this is the biggest sander you don't have to tear anything away to make it fit) and I strongly believe this has made the sandpaper last WAAAY less than normal.This alone is reason enough for me to say "don't buy this thing."The "produce a single sheet of sandpaper for all our models" idea makes sense to some dumb marketer at B&D, but you're stuck with the self-destroying sandpaper.

Man do I hate changing the paper because it is torn away at the tear marks and not because I have used it up!

If I were a prospective buyer I would skip this sander and buy a better quality one from the "serious" toolmakers like Porter Cable, DeWalt, Bosch or Makita for about the same money for a base model sander.

Bottom line: I own this sander and I'm about to replace it with something different.
