5-0 out of 5 stars Compact Belt Sander
I have used regular belt sanders for years, heavy and awkward. This sander is great because its light weight and fast to work with. Its perfect for the fast or small job.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good for light duty applications only
I am a small business owner and bought this sander to grind off the flashing on our polymer concrete castings (a material that is similar to cultured marble countertops.)

The good: It is light weight, easy to use and very easy to change the belts. It has a variable speed dial and a dial to align the belt should it wander off track.

The bad: It is too slow on the rpm's, even when you set it at its highest speed. It is also a little bit noiser than I thought it would be.It is about as noisy as a pneumatic. The belts are of poor quality. I burned through all of the belts that came with it in one day. They are also very expensive.

I can see this being an excellent tool for sanding wood or other soft materials but that is about it.Now that I am stuck with a non-standard belt size, I hope they offer belts for materials other than wood.I also hope that some other manufacturer will produce these belts to bring the cost down to where it should be for expendable items.

5-0 out of 5 stars After First Use of the Compact Sander
After the first use of the compact Bosch Sander I rate it as excellent for my purposes.I bought it specifically to use in spot sanding dovetails when they stick out beyond the wood surface. For this use, its performance was excellent. It's very easy to handle because of its light weight and small size.I also used it to remove select areas of wood for better fit.I like it much better than my heavier Stanley belt sander which can sometimes gourge the wood (probably because of my carelessness). ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The little planer that could!
I put this guy to the test with a project that should have been beyond it's limits and it performed like a star!Unable to remove the finish from some 85 yr old oak flooring by sanding or scraping, this planer saved the day.In a pinch, I actualy planed about 500 sq feet of oak flooring (in place) with this unit - a task greater than what it was designed for I'm guessing.Probably 40 hours of actual use on that project and the planer just kept going. Now, I did go through about a dozen blades in that process, but this planer (and my knees) took the beating and saved a now beautiful old floor. This is a great planer for a good price and while, yes, it only has one blade, it's worked great for me in everything I've asked it to do as a homeowner.

3-0 out of 5 stars Planer has only one blade.
I wasn't sure how many stars to give this since I have never used it.I ordered it and when it arrived I discovered that it is a one-bladed model. Bosch calls this an "electronically counterbalanced single-blade design."From the other reviews this seems to work well, however, I wish that the listing would have indicated this. Hence this little blurb. The extra blade "set" is just another single blade in a bubble pack.
Again, I have NOT used this machine, but have sent it back in favor of a two-bladed design.

5-0 out of 5 stars For the money, you can't beat it...
I purchased this planer hoping it would last at least a few jobs, and was pleasantly surprised.Lightweight, powerful, comfortable to use, and a smooth depth setting takes the guesswork out of it, unlike the Makita's, which I've owned, hated, and returned.A newly converted Bosch enthusaist, I have nothing bad to say, well, except for the lack of a case.Picky, picky, I know ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Bosch 2 610 996 957 Plastic Case (For Model 1613EVS)
This is a solidly built product. A must for storing your Bosch router when not in use. Cheap insurance for keeping your expensive router safe from neglect.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just What you would expect!
A well made molded case that is thought out and has plenty of room for the router, edge guide, bits, but could use a little foam insullation to keep things from banging around. Mine is used for a 1618 EVS (with handle) and it fits well.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's a box, if you're looking for a box.
At moments like these, I'm glad I don't write advertising copy for a living. What is there to say about a box? Suffice it to say it does what you bought it for.

It's a blow molded box. Hinges on one side, latches and a handle on the other. The molded insert fits the 1613 very nicely. There are no instructions (it's a box!), so I had to flip and turn the router several times before I found its intended placement. Go ahead and laugh, but not before you try it yourself. The top is molded to fit Bosch's deluxe edge guide, so I bought one to fill the space. It's held securely enough to keep it in place if you're gentle. I'm now gentle with the loaded box because the edge guide makes a hefty projectile when lose, somewhat negating the reason for buying a protective box in the first place. There are a number of slots for 1/4" and 1/2" shank bits, but I was rather nervous about the edge guide busting up my carbide as well. A 1" thick sheet of open cell foam should hold the guide securely in place and solve the problem nicely.

I was looking for a box for the router, and so I bought this one. I'm not disappointed. Just make sure to pick up some foam at the fabric store. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This really is a brute: 18 hungry volts of power behind a steel-reinforced collar, a rugged 1/2-inch chuck with 17 clutch settings and Bosch’s amazing DuraShield body housing. It’s a contractor’s dream drill, tested by Bosch to withstand a 46-foot drop onto concrete and more realistic real-world bumps and bruises. The steel-braced collar will take a drop right on the nose and still protect the chuck. It performs like the Bosch that it is, with tremendous power and ease of use. We expect this tool will last longer than most drills simply because Bosch made it so easy to replace the brushes-—external access means you can get this little maintenance job done in two minutes. Nice ergonomic touches include a wide trigger and a shock-absorbing rubber grip. For some fun, visit Bosch’s website and watch the video of a Bosch DuraShield drill like this one taking the 46-foot plunge—and keep on drilling. It’s no hype.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

  • DuraShield housing is constructed to withstand real-world conditions

5-0 out of 5 stars Lotsa Twistum
I purchased this drill in the Multitool kit when ALL my tools went up in a fire.My old 12 Bosch drill was light, balanced, a joy to use.My initial impression of this piece was that it was going to be too heavy for enjoyable use. Then on my first project (a 13x35 foot deck) my newly unpacked corded drill gave up the ghost after a mere dozen screws.I fell back on this and it punched 15 pounds of 3.5 inch #9's without a whimper.Decent run time. The trigger is very responsive with good speed control.Plenty of torque.Used it as a nutdriver while assembling my new tablesaw and had to stop because it kept stripping the threads off the 5/16th inch bolts. The majority of my handheld tools are Bosch and I believe in them fervently.

3-0 out of 5 stars not bad
I am an electrician, and have generally used a makita 1/2" drill for all my frame drilling. I purchased the bosch 18v brute and have been doing a lot of reno's recently. Drill has enough torque to blow through several side by side 2xwhatever, but the torque settings occassionaly get nudged because they are close to where you grad the drill, same with the forward/reverse. Also a little wobble on the chuck, not sure if this was factory or developed since I used it, but it does concern me. And I have a new duplex coming up, and want to give the cordless a try to drill out the entire thing, more to come on that. I like the rubber grips, and after several uses the battery seems to hold for some decent workload. Havent given much of a run on the hammer drill with it, what I have done, it seems fine, just 3/16 and 1/4 stuff.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hang On!!
I own a home improvement/remodeling company and I bought this drill about 6 months ago, I use it almost everyday; I can attest that this drill can take some serious abuse without even a whimper!! The 1/2-inch ratcheting chuck and 17 clutch settings are well engineered; this drill has tremendous power and is very easy to operate. It has a nice wide trigger and shock-absorbing rubber grip that make this drill an extension of your arm. It does come with an attachable side handle to help handle all of its torque. This drill was not made for drilling a lot of large holes in concrete but is up for the task occasionally (3/8" is about max for concrete, 1/2" in brick) and works excellent for any smaller sizes. I also think that the battery life between each charge is much improved (2.4ah!!). This drill was made for a contractor who uses/abuses tools everyday and not the average DIY homeowner it will definitely work for them though. I highly recommend this drill for anyone in need of a new high quality drill. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great blades for sheet metal
These blades go great in my Bosch Progressor jig saw when its time to cut sheet metal. For this job, I always clamp the metal down to a piece of scrap plywood then cut through both metal and wood with one of these blades using a mid-range orbital action setting on the jigsaw. By going slow and careful, this produces clean and fast cuts in the sheet metal without the vibration and noise you get when not using a backing material. I wouldn't put anything but genuine Bosch blades in my Progressor jig saw.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just Did It

1-0 out of 5 stars what a joke
For less than the cost of this unit I built a nice solid table with all kinds of features that are either unavailable, expensive or under built in the store bought models. Any router how to book will walk you through it. If you're truly a woodworker or aspiring to be one & not just a collector of power tools, this is an opportunity to improve your skills & make something worth having that will last a long long time.

1-0 out of 5 stars In response to "Its the same as the Craftsman"
If this Bosch table is indeed the same as the Craftsman..
Avoid it..

The setup, although it did take some time, wasn't all that bad.. (Maybe because I expected it to be difficult from reading previous reviews.. lol)

My so-called "Professional" Craftsman Router Table which also sells for $249.99 is high on the ends and low in the middle of the table.. And although $250 isn't a huge amount of money.. You would think for largely a hunk of plastic and some aluminum you would get something far more "precision"...

Craftsman is NOT an alternate to the Bosch table..

1-0 out of 5 stars dissapointed
I bought the Bosch Router table almost without thinking.I have other Bosch tools and have gained confidence that if you want an extremely good tool, Bosch is a sure bet.

How wrong I was about the table. The design appears quite good.Unfortunately, the use of a composite router mounting plate does not provide sufficient support.I found the surface to be concave after mounting the router (of course, a Bosch router).Accuracy in such conditions is nearly impossible.

Too, the table surface (aluminum) leave black marks on hardwoods (no doubt, aluminum oxide) that probably can be corrected with wax, or by gluing a laminate top over it.Like other reviewers, I also observed burrs and overall poor quality on the table top.The dust collection worked surprisingly well with very little spill-out, and the ease of using the supplied feather boards was welcome.I'm afraid with those positives however, I wouldn't buy a Bosch Router table again.

Although I am still a firm supporter of the quality of Bosch tools, I will probably be a bit more cautious in my future purchases. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the price and then some
I took on a job stripping, sanding, and painting about 100 kitchen cabinet doors for a apartment property renovation. Not having the 16 scfm @ 90 psi through my compressor for an air sander and not wanting to have my hands go numb using the various electric sanders I already have, I purchased this sander on the high recommendations of others.

This is a high-quality tool and definitely relieves some of the drudgery of sanding. The 6" pad makes quick work of anything it touches. The variable speed gives you the opportunity to adjust to changing surface conditions.Dust collection through the provded filter or through a vacuum host is very efficient. And my hands aren't numb anymore.

Cons - a bit heavy to use with one hand for anything except short periods of time. It's large - smaller than a belt sander, larger than a low-end RO sander.Paper selection limited.

Considering getting rid of the two PC "buzzing bee in your hand" sanders but, being smaller, they're more useful in the tool bag.The Bosch will stay at the shop.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rugged Workhorse Capable of Finish Sanding
I have owned my 3727DEVS 6" sander for three years and have used it for both fine woodworking and around the house do-it-yourself projects.I have it found it to be a rugged, very well made tool that also has good balance.Indeed, it is an easy to use tool that takes the drudgery out of sanding.

It can be used for aggressive sanding with the coarse grits, such as in the prep work for painting plaster walls, or it can be used for the finish sanding of cabinetry of furniture. It performs equally well at either task.

I strongly recommend that one should also purchase the vacuum hose adapter, particularly since this sander can generate a lot of dust.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Sander!
I've had the opportunity to use a number of 5" and 6" RO sanders over the past few years and this is one I would definately buy again.Smooth, well balanced and fits my hands well.I bought mine with the vac adapter and Bosch's hose.I use it hooked to my Shop-Vac and it works very well.I can't see any dust on my bench around where I am sanding and I don't smell any either.6" paper is now available at the box stores if you want to go that route (I prefer the Mirka available here).I like the 6" simply because it takes less time to sand an area. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The 1617PK can be converted to EVS
I'm not sure why anyone would buy this 1617PK on Amazon when the variable speed version 1617EVSPK is available for a lower price.Variable speed is critical to control as the size of the router bit changes -- larger bits need to run at lower RPM. Anyways, I did buy this 1617PK because it was on mega-clearance at Lowes. After some schematic research, I found there are only 4 things different between the 1617PK and 1617EVSPK: the EVSPK has an added speed control, larger motor housing cover for the added speed control, and a different armature and field (the motor itself).I bought the speed control and cover for $30 through a local tool repair shop and now I have essentially the 1617EVSPK router for a steal of a price. It's not exactly the same because I didn't upgrade the armature and field...which would have drawn 1.0 more amps and provided about 1/4 more HP.So my point is that if you already have this single speed router, all is not lost and you can convert it to EVS if you really want, but if you haven't bought this, buy the EVSPK to begin with.

I own a Bosch 1613EVS plunge router and love it but wanted a dual base system too.Bosch routers are known for comfort and precision. They're kind of like the Toyota's of tools: well engineered tools that aren't the very best but consistently high performing and long lasting. The irritating things about this 1617PK/EVSPK router are the lack of a built-in dust control connection/system, non-centered base that requires the purchase of a centering cone or bit, and proprietary guide bushing system that requires an adapter to use the Porter-Cable standard guide bushings.Small things that I bought accessories to address but would've been better if they were part of the kit.Because of those things, I was convinced I would eventually get the Porter Cable 894VK combo kit until I heard how bad the plunge was on it.It's perfect on the Bosch, with Bosch being pretty much the only brand that covers its plunge posts to prevent dust from entering. The only other thing I don't like is that, unlike my 1613EVS plunge router, the 1617 doesn't have an on/off trigger on the plunge handle. But in the end, I'm a Bosch loyalist and because of the Lowes clearance, I now have two Bosch routers and am happy with both.

5-0 out of 5 stars This router is awesome
It has been over 20 years since I did any sort of woodworking in junior high school shop class, and am just now starting to get back into it. Somewhere along the line I decided that I needed to get a router, so after reading lots and lots of stuff, I got the 1617PK. I think it is probably the best power tool I have purchased so far.

Tonight I used the router for the first time. Actually, it was the first time I have EVER used a router. I am very very impressed! I had absolutely no problems with the thing getting bogged down, even when I hit a knot in a piece of plywood. It just went right through it and there was no speed change at all.

This router is built like a tank, too. I have never seen a power tool that just looked beautiful. This thing does. The fit and finish is most excellent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just Outstanding...
I recently purchased the Bosch 1617PK (bought the kit for versatility) and could not be more pleased. This router performs extremely well for the work I put to it (making picture frame moldings).I have it mounted in a Bench Dog router table setup and in this configuration it is just the ticket! If I want to put it to other uses, all I have to do is open up the suitcase-sized carrying case and select the shell that best suits the impending job.Another Bosch triumph...yes I own and use Bosch tools on a near exclusive basis and think the world of them. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Does just what it is designed for
I really like this heat gun. It is commercial quality. It will last for years, can be rebuilt ( if necessary ), the base is very convenient ( this does not cool quite as fast as the variable heat range model ), and always comes up to the same temperature. I think if I were to buy another the variable heat range model, just because there are times when this model is too hot for the project at hand, and varying the distance between the gun and the work is not enough. That is my only complaint w/ this tool, but it is not the tool's fault. If you intend to use this gun for the same project and you don't need to vary the range, this is the heat gun to buy ! ... Made in switzerland and it shows. You can feel the quality from the moment you pick it up. Bosch really blows everybody away. I noticed even Porter Cables 9.6 is now made in Taiwan. If you want quality that you know is going to last, Buy Bosch. If you want a name slapped on something from asia, Buy a Ridgidobi or a Porter Decker.

Bought this drill a couple of months ago and like the AMEX card I would not leave home without it!I thought the world of my previous cordless drill (Milwaukee 12v) but the battery packs wear out after a few seasons of use and they are getting harder to find (as well as getting expensive).I've got one good pack left for the Milwaukee and am babying it, but I use the Bosch for nearly every drilling job I do now.I give it a solid recommendation to anyone that wants a workhorse 3/8" drill. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Buy it while you can
I agree with the last reviewer from Centreville - this is one heck of a bargain, and let's face it, this grade of tool is pricey enough for the home handyman. Like a lot of people I did my research on cordless 14.4V drills and decided that any of the recent ones - Bosch, Makita, DeWalt, Milwaukee etc. would have been OK for what I wanted - a deck building tool. At one local store I was advised to get a Makita 12V impact driver for about $220, but then the additional chuck for drilling would have put the price over what I wanted to pay. I'm glad I resisted and got a drill / driver. Anyway, more research on this particular out-of-production-combination (the 3660CK) reveals that the drill has been replaced by the 2 new tough series (Brute and Compact). If one does the detailed comparison, the 3660K drill in this set has almost identical specs to the new Brute tough - except for some metal casing - which alone is about $190. The newer drills don't add any useful features to what the 3660K has. The saw is still being sold as a combo with the new Compact tough 14.4V drill and retails also for $190. With the Amazon discount I paid $195 for both - with free shipping - which can't be beat I think.

As far as performance etc., I find the 5.3 lb drill to be the heavy end of what is comfortable for me as a handyman, but it is very well balanced. One thing that surprised me was that the variable speed trigger gives you a lot of control over slow drilling - you don't have to run it with a lot of torque if you don't want (the clutch setting notwithstanding). The saw was an added bonus, but already I have been impressed with how smooth and easy it is to use.

In short, this deal won't last forever, and there's little reason to prefer the two newer Bosch models that don't come with the saw (unless you plan on frequently dropping them from the roof). Like the other reviewer, I find the case is too big for everyday use, and I suppose I'll now get the flashlight as well for $20. Would I buy this again - you bet!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic value for a fantastic performer
I needed to replace my 8 or so year old Bosch 12v drill, and naturally considered Bosch again due to the fantastic experience I had with the 12v.I considered DeWalt and Makita, which I'm sure would have been good, but ultimately went with this Bosch kit for the amazing price.Just the saw alone is $180, the new Compact Tough 14.4v drill is about $140, so for $200 ($220 minus $20 rebate) this kit was a steal!!The drill isn't much heavier than my 12v, and it is significantly more powerful, I from 250 to 425 inlb of torque.I drilled a 1/2" speed bore longways (the 5-1/2" way) through a 2x6 on high speed setting and it flew through, probably just as fast as my 6 amp DeWalt electric.I then cut the 2x6 with the fantastic 14.4v saw, and it went through just as easily as my 12 amp Skil electric. Both the drill and the saw have a fantastic feel to them, they fit my hands well and feel top-notch quality.I can't get over the saw, everything about it says quality - including the very nice flip-up exhaust port for your shop vac.

The good?Price, performance, feel, quality, reliability if its even close to my previous 12v.Which still works fine, by the way, but one of the batteries is bad.

Bad?The case is too big.It is designed to hold drill, saw, charger, rip fence, drill handle, owners manual, and cordless light (guess I will have to get one of those now.)I wish it had a separate case for the drill and saw, since I rarely need to carry the saw anywhere.

Editorial Review

It might look like the world's largest safety razor, but Bosch's fine-cut saw is a handy little niche tool. Essentially just an electric handsaw, the 1640VSK was designed for flooring installers and remodelers. It feels good in your hand, with a nice grip and contoured angles. The large on/off switch is conveniently located where your thumb would rest. The blades mount easily, too, with the option of mounting to either side. Though the saw doesn't look powerful, we were impressed with its smooth operation. It's precise and works equally well with wood, composites, and plastic. It makes a cleaner cut by far than a reciprocating saw and fits into much smaller places. We used ours to shorten a bunch of door trim before installing new kitchen flooring. It worked great. Why not just use the old handsaw? Well, good question. We guess it depends on how often you have to make these sorts of cuts (and how tired you are of banging your knuckles while making them). The saw also comes with a miter table attachment--which we have to admit we'd be unlikely to use, owning as we do a nice compound miter saw. A floor installer, however, might think it worked just fine. --Michael Shilling ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not quite what I had in mind.
I am a home repair contractor and I have several other Bosch tools, and nothing bad to say about any of them. This tool I'm not so sure about yet. I bought mine today to cut oak coveing to trim a countertop. I did not have my 10" Bosch Slider with me and I really wanted to get this project done.
It did not do too bad a job on the 45 degree angles, and it was not too difficult to clamp down on the top 2x6 rail of a deck where I was working.
The problem I had was holding the stock in place from vibrating.
I had cut some materials to a 42 in length but could not hold it down on the miter table to make a full cut or to finish the angles. It vibrated out of my hands and onto the floor about three times before I finally got it cut.
I was short a few feet of finishing the job so I'll get a chance to try it again later.
I would never try to do any major trim work with it. Like I said I have a slider for that. But for smaller jobs of cutting a few pieces, it could be a suitable alternative. It sure takes up a lot less space in my truck and can be kept there full time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for remodeling
My son in law called and wanted help tearing out some old subfloor. I used this saw to cut flush along the walls through the old 1 1/4" subfloor. This saw suprised both of us on its power and ease of use. I know now what he's getting next year for Christmas.

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't get hosed with other attachments
If you intend to use this system with other attachments - make sure they are the fine dust generating type. The hose causes too much vacuum loss and won't pull larger chips away and it will plug up. The hose is very flexible and doesn't crush but it can't be shorten because of the molded in fittings. It's small diameter and flexibility componds the vacuum loss when you use it.

This system can NOT be used successfully with a router or circular saw dust collection attachment. It probably will work ok with a jig saw, palm sander or belt sander.

4-0 out of 5 stars a must have / good hose!
You won't get "hosed" with this acessory.I like it to attach the sander to the shop vac and it keeps dust to a minimum in the shop. This is a must have if you do alot of sanding!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing detail sander!
We are building a sailboat and had avoided buying a detail sander for three years, because the ones we'd seen had little power and were flimsy. When we needed to get into corners, we used a Dremel tool with a sanding drum.We burned out one Dremel tool, and then went through five of the (returnable) hardware-store brand. One day, a friend brought over her Bosch detail sander and we were astonished. We went out and bought one right away, and several months of hard use later we're still very happy with it.We've worn out the triangle sanding pad (esp. its corners) so we'll be replacing that, but we've been extremely happy with the tool itself. We should have bought one when we started the boat! It's as good as our Porter-Cable random-orbital, and that's saying something!

Editorial Review

Woodworkers who like the smooth, accurate performance of Bosch's jig saws will appreciate this new cordless model. It offers plenty of power for making curved cuts in a variety of materials, and doesn't skimp on usability features. At its heart is a powerful and smooth-running Bosch-built motor and a durable and lightweight magnesium gear housing. The saw has variable speed from 0 to 2,000 strokes per minute with a 1-inch stroke length, and a maximum capacity of 2-3/4 inches in wood and 5/16 inch in steel. The base bevels 45 degrees and comes with a foot cover to protect finished surfaces. The tool-free blade-changing system is as simple and quick as we've seen, and even ejects used blades with the pull of a lever. There's a soft rubber top-handle grip that can be used in a couple different positions, and the variable-speed trigger has an ambidextrous lock-on switch. With this tool's smooth performance and Bosch-built reliability, we think any one who finds curve cutting and cords a cumbersome combination will appreciate it. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Little Machine!
I've had this router for over a year now, mounted under a table. So far it has done everything I have asked of it and more. I'm only working with hard woods and it has never bogged down or frozen any bits. More than enough power. Its the best in its price range.

(Plus those maple handles just look so damn good!)

----EDIT----
FYI....
Just after writing this review the router just died.It was ten months old.I had to send it in to Bosch TWICE to get it to work again.Very disappointing.

5-0 out of 5 stars basic, lightweight, and powerful
I wanted a basic router with adequate power to do some simple remodeling jobs around the house and this model has been perfect.I do not need to make blind dados and therefore did not need a plunge unit.I do not use larger bits and therefore did not require variable speed.Quite frankly, this unit is probably more than a DIY amateur like myself requires.Although I am not familiar with them, the Skil and Craftman routers would probably serve my purposes and be far cheaper. The Bosch is really meant to be heavily used by professionals and serious woodworking hobbyists. But if you have the money, I recommend this model highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bosch Router... Need more be said
This router is perfect. I was going to spend the extra for the 2HP version but I tested this one first. More than enough power. It comes with a 1/2" and 1/4" collet. Nice. and the handles feel great. This is the barrel-grip version of Bosch's bestselling top-handle 1587 model. Many woodworkers prefer the barrel grip on this model, however, arguing that it's easier to cut scrolls and curves when the saw is pushed forward (as opposed to down). Aside from the difference in grip, this saw is much like its top-handle counterpart: the balance is superb, the 5 amp motor packs plenty of power, the foot plate tilts left and right (up to 45 degrees), and the base retracts for flush cutting. The tool-free blade-changing system also works well. Simply put, this a compact, powerful, well-designed saw--a perfect buy for users who prefer barrel grips. --Jon Groebner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The first and the best jigsaw made!
Robert Bosch pretty much has the market cornered with worm drive saws, rotary hammers and jigsaws. I bought the top handle version about 5 years ago and decided to buy the barrel grip because of the control aspect. I'm glad I did. This is by far the best jigsaw money can buy.As usual, Norm got it right. He uses all P.C. except for his plate jointer and his Bosch barrel grip jigsaw. (Bet that chaps P.C.'s a_ _).Buy this saw. You won't regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superior control with the barrel grip
I purchased this tool hoping that the barrel grip design would give me much better control than the top handle Freud I have been using.I reasoned that better control would lead to better results.

My choice to go with the Bosch was based on the outstanding reviews this saw has received. After using this saw on my last 3 projects, I am just delighted with it.The barrel grip is just wonderful to work with. The quality of my work has been greatly improved because of the great control offerred by the barrel grip design. I don't believe I will ever go back to a top handle.

I am a big fan of Bosch's tool-less blade changing mechanism. Not only is it a unique design, it is quite functional, quickand easy to use.Two thumbs up for that!

The saw dininitely has all of the power I need.I have easily cut through 1" thick hard maple. It is very smooth and has little vibration. When used in conjunction with Bosch blades, you will be able to produce some nice, clean cuts.

In conclusion, the Bosch 1584AVS barrel grip jigsaw is solid, uniquely engineered, powerful, smooth and easy to control.I am gladly rating it 5 stars and enthusiastically giving it my endorsement.I am 100% happy with this purchase.
