2-0 out of 5 stars Terrible blades
As with most of Delta's band saw blades - these are terrible. They do not track well and dull easily. If you are a cheapskate like I am and don't want to spend more money for several blades, then give up and buy one premium blade such as a "Timber Wolf" instead. You'll be glad you did. They track extremely well on much lower tension settings. You won't believe the positive difference they make. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Using a dull-edged tool takes more effort, gives inferior results, and is dangerous. This Delta sharpening center uses a wet/dry system to hone both hardened and nonhardened tools and helps keep you on the cutting edge. Powered by a 120-volt, 1/5-horsepower induction motor, it rests on a solid cast-iron base that bolts easily to any bench or tabletop in the shop. The wet side spins a 1,000-grit, 8-inch wheel at 400 rpm to sharpen hardened tools without damaging their temper. Water pressure is easily regulated to help achieve a constant stream suited to any sharpening application. For honing edges and pointing screwdrivers, the dry side turns the 5-inch aluminum-oxide wheel up to 3,600 rpm. We especially appreciate the ease with which the tool rest and holder adjust to work on either wheel, whether tightly clamped around blades for a perfectly horizontal surface or removed to allow rotation. --Justin Paul ... Features

  • Two-year limited warranty on machines, parts, and accessories
  • Cast iron body for stability
  • Adjustable tool rests hold the workpiece at the proper angle for sharpening
  • Wet grinding wheel sharpens hardened cutting tools without damaging temper

3-0 out of 5 stars great engineering, poor construction
If BMW hired the three stooges to build their new 7 series sedan, it might end up alot like the Delta 23-710.Great engineering, poor construction. It is an amazing product for the price.I got mine, with the optional planer knife jig, for less than $200 from Amazon.com.When all was said and done, I was able to perfectly grind and hone my 6" jointer knives in very little time. However, alot was said and done to get to that point.

As it comes in the box, the Sharpening Center was non-functional.The grooves in all the tool jig rods were
misaligned with the set screws, making it imposssible to line up a blade with the grinding wheels. The jig rods must be set up so their grooves DO NOT align with the set screws so that the jig will align properly with the grinder. Also, my planer knife jig would not hold planer knives.I had to re-drill the locating holes on the clamp plate to get it to work correctly. While functional, the jig now looks like a Rube Goldberg contraption.

After reading other reviews, I think most people will find they have alot of work ( and thinking on their feet ) to do before they can get this thing to sharpen a blade. So how can I give it three stars?First of all, it is a whole lot cheaper than your only two real alternatives for sharpening planer/jointer knives - the Makita 9820-2, or the Tormek.Secondly, it really is well engineered, and once you get it's problems fixed, it does a very nice job.

So, if you're the kind of person who sees "challenges" and "learning oppertunities" not "problems" and "cheap labor issues", then this is the sharpener for you.If not, send your blades out for sharpening, because I'm sure the Tormek and Makita have their issues also.

1-0 out of 5 stars Inadequate
I purchased this item primarily to sharpen wood turning chisels.Impossible to use with small chisels for turning projects on a mini lathe, because the shafts are not long enough to be held by the provided tool holder.General quality is poor, and insufficiently flexible use for a variety of sharpening requirements.

4-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
Can this sharpener do what the Tormek can? No way! However this sharpener is a lot less expensive. I've used it successfully to sharpen wood chisels and plane irons. It does a good job in a lot less time than doing it all by hand. The white wheel is good for rough work (grinding a new edge on an old screw driver) and the tool holders work fine. Yes the wet wheel might splash a bit and the tool holders are not adequate for sharpening complex curves. But if you are looking for an inexpensive way to sharpen flat edge tools, this one does work. I have no complaints. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars You need this for your Unisaw.
If you own a Unisaw in a small shop, you need this mobile base. Very easy to assemble, seems very sturdy. Nice finish-seems to be powder coated. I modified mine to fit a shorter than normal right side extension table, since I fitted the saw with a Biesemeier Homeshop fence and leg set(which I got at a good price from a local supplier). It makes moving this machine easy, although somewhat awkward, until you get used to "driving" it. I will be buying a similar base for my Delta 14" bandsaw also.

5-0 out of 5 stars SPACE SAVER
MY 36-844 FITS LIKE A GLOVE TOOK LESS THAN 15 MINS. TO PUT TOGETHER. CALL A FRIEND YOU STILL HAVE TO LIFT YOUR SAW ON IT. YOU WONT REGRET THIS PURCHASE. USE SOME CAUTION WHEN LOWERING,500LBS.OR MORE IS STILL HEAVY.

4-0 out of 5 stars Would only make one change
This base took about 20 minutes to put together. And that includes five minutes for bandaging my finger after cutting it on one of the staples from the box.The saw fits perfectly, of course. It did require me to reposition the legs for the side extension, as the base was narrower then I originally had the legs.

One item that I like about the HTC base that this doesn't have is the ability to change the position(s) of the fixed wheels.I have a tight spot between my bench and the garage wall that I'm sliding this saw into and the positioning of the fixed wheels requires me to come in at an awkward angle and move three other tools to have enough room to swing the table around. That's why I only give it four stars.Otherwise, a top notch accessory. ... Editorial Review

Let's face the ugly truth: you spend half an hour sanding something, and then you sneeze. It's horrifying, isn't it? Just imagine what's in your lungs. Delta Shopmaster has come up with the perfect remedy in the AP200 air cleaner. The 1/8-horsepower motor moves 650 cubic feet of air per minute, trapping sawdust, wallboard dust, and other byproducts in its three-pocket inner filter and its disposable, pleated outer filter. Can't make sense of cfm? Here's another way to look at it: the Shopmaster AP200 will clean and recirculate the air in a 20-by-20-by-8-foot room 16 times in one hour. The 50-pound unit has non-marring rubber feet to protect your surfaces and minimize vibration, and it also comes with eyebolts for ceiling suspension in your shop. We think this would be perfect in a home workshop--and for home remodeling jobs, too, because it's so portable. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

  • Non-marring rubber feet protect floor or benchtop surface, and eye-hooks are included for ceiling suspension

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent air filtration value
I've been using the AP200 since Oct 2003 in my home and garage during a year long project that included removing the popcorn ceiling throughout the house, sanding drywall joint compound and ripping/cutting 1000 sq' of laminate wood flooring.I realized I needed an air cleaner after cutting flooring for a small room left a cloud of dust in my garage for days.

I looked at the Shop Vac air cleaner and Delta 50-875 but decided on the AP200 because I didn't need the remote control, timer or 3 speeds. It also didn't hurt that the AP200 received a "Best Buy" review in the Oct 2003 issue of American Woodworker magazine. The AP200 did better than the 50-875 in testing because the disposable filter had less blow through than the more expensive washable filter. Also the average CFM of the 50-875 was only 25 CFM more than the AP200.Buy the 50-875 only if you need the extra features and higher CFM.As I see it the AP200 cleans air just as good if not better than the 50-875 and have the features that can fail or be damaged during shipping.

I finally decided to hang my AP200 from the ceiling of my garage and ended up using angle iron like the stuff used to mount garage door opener and rails. It will take some work to get the ceiling joist, air cleaner mounting holes and angle iron spacing just right but it's possible. Now I can change or vacuum a dirty filter without the air cleaner swinging back and forth on chains.

To prevent dust from blowing around the outer filter into the 3 pocket filter you can tape the sides of the filter to the frame of the air cleaner using packing tape.Standard sized 12" x 24" x 1" furnace filters are about 1/4" larger than the ones that come with the AP200 so they can't fit without modification.I ended up just taping a better (hepa style) 12" x 24" x 1" furnace filter to the pleated outer filter.Just make sure the air is going through the filters and not around them.In theory this "double outer filter" setup should cut the overall CFM a bit but it's not noticeable.

The AP200 is a must have for any serious DIYer. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Resaw Blade
This is not the best resaw blade I have used with the Jet 14" bandsaw, but it is also not the most expensive one I have used. For the price, it is a very good blade and the blade sharpness has held up fine cutting 6" thick oak, cherry, ash and walnut.

The 4 teeth per inch gives fast and efficient resaw speed, the blade holds the line and very little finish sanding is required. For the money, it is a decent blade. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Expensive
Well, this does work and it fits exactly right. But, be very careful when cutting small parts with a thin dado blade because the workpiece can fall below the insert.

In other words, if you are cutting a 1/4" dado there is a lot of open area where stuff can fall. If you are cutting thin dados, your workpiece should be at least three inches wide, and that still is not very stable.

If you use a your dado blades a lot, I recommend that you create inserts (using zero clearance inserts) for dados between 1/4" and 5/8".I've got two inserts--3/8" and 5/8". The danger of parts falling below the insert is just too high.

And geez, this seems expensive.Zero clearance inserts are about $22 and I think they work better.

5-0 out of 5 stars YUP

2-0 out of 5 stars A real disappointment
If the magnetic base on this light were twice as strong, it would be worth owning and deserve a high rating. As it turns out, the magnetic base is far too weak for many of the applications that this light is intended for. Here are some things I tried with this light:

1.Standing upright on a cast iron table (such as a tablesaw) - This thing nearly jumped out of my hand to stick to my tablesaw.

2.Attaching to the side of my drill press - Basically the magnet would not hold the light in this position.Only if I flexed the neck so the lamp itself hung straight down would it even hold itself to the side of the drillpress - and then it was so wobbly that I was afraid to turn on the press for fear that the light would slide right off...

3.Hanging straight down from a metal plate on the ceiling - This light will support itself in this manner so long as nothing bumps it, in which case the magnet gives up and the whole thing falls down.

So, I have to say that either I got a bad magnet or this tool is not worth owning, or both.Since a clamp on light will do everything that this can do and more - I don't recommend that you buy one of these!

4-0 out of 5 stars Just about what you'd expect.
The first and foremost thing I checked was that it only takes a 40 watt bulb.Which puts just enough light to help and not quite enough if you have a bright shop. The other thing I noticed is that I went through my first light bulb very quick when I had it on the bandsaw.I think the vibration killed the bulb (get a light bulb for fans?), but since I moved it over to my drill press, the light bulb has lasted a bit longer.I haven't had any noticable issues with the magnet, it's strong enough to hold the lamp, but nothing else.

4-0 out of 5 stars Other ways to use it.
I like this light for the fact that you can remove the base and use it to directly mount the unit on a homemade bracket or mounting hole on your tools. I found the magnet was not as strong as i would like, but by mounting it directly on my DP with a homemade bracket (connected to the bolts used for mounting the motor) it works great, not utterly perfect, but better than any other light of ths nature. ... Editorial Review

Here's a benchtop tool that packs the power of the big boys. With 6 inches from bit center to column, you can drill with ease into the center of a foot-wide board with a 2-3/8-inch stroke and a chuck jaw capacity of 1/2 inch. The cast-iron table tilts left and right to 45 degrees with a positive stop at 0, and offers five drill speeds depending on your material and bit size. You don't even have to know what speed is the right one--there's a chart inside the pulley cover that dictates belt speed according to hole size and material. Changing speeds is as simple as adjusting the belt on the pulley. Have some repetitive drilling to do? The adjustable-position locking depth stop will take the trouble out of the job. Rack-and-pinion table depth adjustment makes raising and lowering the table no work at all, and here's a nice bonus you won't find standard on other models--a built-in tool tray. When you're done drilling, just pop out the removable safety switch to prevent unauthorized use. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

  • Table tilts up to 45 degrees for accurate angle drilling

4-0 out of 5 stars A good basic drill press, butservice is a painful experience
For such a popular brand, getting any Delta product serviced is a pain.I live in the DC area and it's a 2 hour round trip to drop it off and 2 hours to pick it up.

DON'T LOSE THE CHUCK KEY!It's a different diameter to any of the others you have lying around, and you have to call Delta to get a replacement.I had to grind down a different key as an interim replacement.

Besides all that, its a fine machine for the money.I've even used the mortising attachment a few times. But with a 12" drill press, you'll only get a 2 1/2" mortise. So, if you will be doing basic light drilling, this is your drill press.

4-0 out of 5 stars Model 11-990 is still availabe.
Just to note... the two-year old Delta 12" model 11-990 which the troublesome DP300 replaced is still available at a discount from some industrial tool suppliers. I purchased one about two months ago. It is the exact same drill press with all of the same specifications, including being made in China.
So far, it has been a very good tool and I have no complaints, especially considering the reduced price. I wrote a review on it last month.
It's possible that since technically it is an older model, it may have been made to higher standards, because as everyone in the woodworking industry now knows, Delta's continued cost cutting shift to its overseas production facilities has produced increasingly inferior products over the last few years. This is especially true for their low priced light home duty "ShopMaster" series and medium priced commercial product line.
Considering the fact that Delta owns these overseas facilities, if they exercised better material selection, manufacturing techniques and quality control, this wouldn't be such an issue. Unfortunately for everyone, overall product quality as well as Delta's reputation are now almost completely in the tank.

1-0 out of 5 stars bad motor
I purchased the drill press to use with my middle school students. Less than 2 weeks after it arrived, my students called me over cause it smelled funny.I noticed hot melted plastic dripping from the motor and immediately unplugged it and we had to leave the area because of the fumes. Now I get the wonderful task of tracking down the warranty, and then the communciation with delta/amazon, and then the return shipping or lawsuit, and then the... I purchased this stand for my belt/disc sander and it fits perfectly.I also discovered it is just right for my bench top drill press so I purchased another.Nice and sturdy with convenient storage underneath.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very sturdy universal stand
I was so pleased with how rigid the stand supported my Craftsman planer; I drove right back to the store and bought three more. Heavy-duty construction reduces vibration and the possibility of injury while working with large pieces of stock. I could support my truck on one of these. Assembly is a no brainer. Editorial Review

Here’s a top-of-the-line jointer that’s equally comfortable in the professional’s shop or the home woodworking workshop. Its weight offers the stability the professionals and dedicated woodworker demand, and you can’t help but admire its bounty of high-end features. Our favorite feature is probably the extra-long infeed table, at a remarkable 42 inches. Like others in its class, it has three cutterheads, rather than two, but unlike others we’ve used, these knives adjust quickly and easily, thanks to Delta’s jackscrew arrangement. The 5-inch-high fence tilts smoothly and easily, and the rabbeting ledge makes a nice generous 5/8 max rabbet. You won’t be short on power with the 1-1/2 horse single phase motor that’s completely enclosed in the cabinet, where it stays clear of shavings and sawdust. We like the placement of the power controls, right where you need them should you have to shut down quickly. The bed is smooth as glass, and using it is an absolute pleasure.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Delta DJ-20 Jointer
Fit, finish, design, overall very good.Parallelism between the infeed and outfeed within about 0.001" right from the factory.Slight lip on top edge the fence was removed with a little filing on the bevel (stay off the face!).After that, fence was flat withing 0.002".No discernable bow or twist.Plenty of power.Installation of knives is the usual hassle.Made easier with dial indicator and machinist's straight edge.Fence adjustments would be easier with some sort of screw controlled fine adjustment mechanism.A coat of wax on the bed makes the wood move easily.Dust collection is a VERY good idea.So is 220 VAC 1PH.Compared to griping I've heard about other brands, not much to gripe about here.Good value for the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Jointer
I upgraded to the DJ20 X5 after having a JET 6" jointer that I really enjoyed for about 10 years. I thought I'd get 2 more inches of capacity, but soon realized that I got so much more. This is a real workhorse. 8" wide hard maple doesn't even slow it down and the finish is better than anything I've experienced. The long infeed table is absolutely critical to getting a long board flat because it allows you to get more of a long board up on the work surface instead of a cupped end hanging off the end and eventually lifting the entire board up as it reaches the infeed table. The extra weight of the machine is a plus because it makes vibration nonexistent and it allows you to canteliever 8 feet of 8/4 maple (heavy) off one end of the machine without it even coming close to tipping. Try this with a 6" machine and you'll know what I mean. The fence and it's mechanisms are all way more sturdy and heavy duty. The sliding mechanism locks tighly and the fence angle adjustment is simple and positive. I must admit that I liked the wheel adjustment of the infeed table, but after using Delta's levers and seeing how fast, easy, and accurate the parallelogram system works, I'd never go back to wheels. My only regret is that I didn't get this earlier. If you're looking for an 8-inch jointer, you won't be disappointed with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a superior jointer
I waited a long time for Powermatic to redesign their 8" jointer like they did with the 6", but I was dispointed. The new Powermatic 8" jointer's lower price does not offset the fit, finish, and features of this Delta 8" DJ20.

The Delta lever actuated depth of cut adjustment is fast, smooth, and accurate. The fence is easy to adjust and holds square. I have run a lot of figured wood over it and have not experienced burning or tear out, unless I abuse it or don't pay attention to grain direction.

I previously owned a 6" Jet jointer. If you are on a budget look at the 8" Grizley long bed, the Jet 8" on sale, or the Powermatic 6" long bed.

Assembly of this jointer is relatively easy.I did it myself in about 6 hour using alot of leverage and some strong sawhorses.I would not recommend this to everyone. Unless your a 250 weightlifter get some help putting it onto the stand. The rest is easy. ... Read more

Editorial Review

With easy portability and adjustment features built for speed, Delta's Sidekick 10-inch sliding compound miter saw makes a great cutting partner. Weighing in at only 56 pounds, the Sidekick is definitely designed for the job site, rather than the woodshop. Unlike other saws in its class, the Sidekick's entire base pivots--a distinctive feature that surely helped Delta build such a lightweight saw. The saw's dual horizontal rods are located underneath the base, too, which certainly protects the saw's slide and also seems to give the saw a lower, more stable center of balance. The ergonomic D-shaped handle is comfortable for either left- or right-handed use. The cam-action miter lock--always a good idea with miter saws--is definitely quicker and easier to use than the old traditional screw locks.

This saw only bevels to the left, however, and setting the miter gauge requires more effort than we'd like. The scale is set from behind the fence, which means you have to lean over the saw a bit to set your angle. It isn't a hassle, exactly, but it might be more effort than finish carpenters--who have to dial in exact angles all day long--would like. However, anyone would appreciate the stock stops, which extend up to 59 inches down the stand. As is standard, Delta's Sidekick has positive stops set at 0, 22-1/2, 31.62, and 45 degrees. Spinning a 10-inch blade at 5,000 rpm, the Sidekick cuts widths to 11-1/2 inches at 90 degrees and 8 inches at 45 degrees. It's a good, solid saw, all in all, especially for contractors who want big cutting capacity and who are tired of lugging heavy compound miter saws around. --Justin Paul ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not durable or accurate
As a professional homebuilder, I've used most of the saws on the market. I've also experimented with blades and saw stands. This saw is simply not well designed. If you can't reproduce the same angle of cut consistently, then the saw has no right on a job site. Specifically, the locking system for the miter stop is difficult to control precisely. You must check the gage on both sides to ensure it's even in the range-forget fine control. More importantly, the sliding system that supports the saw head flexes and allows the blade to deflect. Even with thicker, stiffer blades, I get multiple cut lines on the material. Lastly, the safety guard is dangerously sloppy. It gets stuck on the work material or interrupts saw use in general. With the prices of other well-designed saws dropping (e.g. Hitachi, Makita) why even consider this saw. If you inherit one you can use it as a chop saw or for decking! Delta makes many fine tools, but this is not one of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Saw for Finishing and Roughing
As a homeowner of a 100 year old colonial, I have used this saw outside and inside and it has been flawless.I cut 2800 linear feet of Philippine mahogany for the porch and at least 800' of 4 1/2" crown molding in the bedrooms. It came out of the box cutting square and accurate. If it needed any adjustment, the wrenches are attached on the left hand leg.

The angle stop took a little getting used to (I would have been happier with a more positive stop), but now I am comfortable with it.I bought a 60 tooth blade for the finish work, and this saw makes me look like I know what I'm doing (the crown molding cheat sheet is nice working around the bay windows).

I like the horizontal handle, and the scale is easy enough to read.It is not too heavy to carry outside or upstairs and is still very stable.I have been very satisfied with the Delta.

4-0 out of 5 stars Delta 10" CPD.-Miter saw
I have been a self-employed contractor for over 7 years, currently operating in Los Angeles.I bought the saw when my 10" Dewalt retired from service.Comparably priced and well equipped in both power and accuracy. The accuracy is not as good with the blade that it comes with though, so for finish work I recommend a professional quality finish blade, spend more and get more.I did find the 'saftey' guard a little clumsy, I removed mine although I do not recommend this for beginners. If you keep it on you simply have to move the saw downward more slowly. The sliding mechanism works very well, as does the miter lockin mechanism, it just requires a bit more attention when setting it for finish cuts.It is both rugged, an employee dropped mine with no ill effects, and stable. The large plastic base has proven a major plus when setting the saw up on-site.The base offers great stability by itself, and is equally useful when mounted on 2X4 saw horses. One minor drawback is its small rear fence. On mine we mounted a length of 1/2" ply to heighten it. One other thing may be seen as a small minus and that is the miter and bevel scales. You just have to be careful when setting them. I very much enjoy using this saw.I have used it successfully for both rough framing and crown molding installation.Personally, I also like the 'quiet' color scheme it has, it dosen't remind me of those school-bus days long ago. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best accessories for your Unisaw
If you own Unisaw, or any other large heavy machine for that matter, you really should consider getting a mobile base.Delta's bases are strong, sturdy, look good and are very stable. When I upgraded to a Unisaw, I alsobought the mobile base.My Unisaw actually is easier to move around thanmy contractors saw used to be.With a quick step on the foot lever iteffortly raises onto the large swivel wheel and the Unisaw can be movedvery easily.A quick flip of your foot to raise the lever and lower thesaw and it rests solidly on 4 points, making it very stable. This designof mobile base make large heavy machines very easy to move around andmanouver. If your workshop is smaller than you wished it was, put yourmachines on one of these bases and you'll find your machines take up lessspace and your shop will seem larger. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not my idea....
My sweetheart wanted a small set of turning tools for making pens and tree ornaments. She selected this set...they are inexpensive compared to some of the sets she looked at. They were not sharp out of the box, no surprise there, but this is when the problems started. These things are tiny...and trying to sharpen them with my usual methods is an exercise in futility. I must admit I have seen a little over a half century so my eyesight and coordination have suffered a bit. Tough to put a good edge on something you can barely see. I finally enlisted the assistance of my nephew, a wood carver, and he managed to get a nice edge on the tools. The only problem now is that as she uses them and they dull, I have to carry them over to his place to get em touched up. I am going to invest in one of those lights with the magnifying glass in it, and see if that doesn't allow me to touch em up at home.
They are comfortable to hold and when sharp, she gets some nice results with them. I realize they are meant to be used with a light touch, which she has, but they don't seem to hold an edge very long. A couple hours of use and they are dull. For their cost they are a fairly decent set of tools, but they are a real pain to keep sharp, because of their micro size. If you are real good at sharpening tools and have excellent vision, these would probably be a good set for you. I rated em 3 stars based on the difficulty in keeping them sharp. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This benchtop saw from Delta's Shopmaster line offers accuracy and reliability in an easily portable package. It has a 13 amp, 120-volt motor for plowing through cuts and features a 17-1/4-by-26-inch table that allows for a 9-7/8-inch maximum rip to the right of the blade. There's a self-aligning rip fence that locks in parallel to the blade and a T-slot groove in the table so you can use a standard miter gauge for crosscutting. It also has a see-through blade guard with an integral splitter and antikickback fingers, and a toggle-style on/off switch. While this is a great saw for do-it-yourselfers working on smaller projects, people needing more rip capacity and a more powerful motor will want to consider a step up to Delta's TS220 Shopmaster saw. --Brian Trinen ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Great for the beginner weekend warrior!
Great entry level 1st timer table saw. Good for occasional weekend warrior and looks impressive in the suburban garage woodshop. Seriously, mine has served me well. I bought this saw nearly 10 years ago. I built a moble cart to mount it on providing an extended table area and storage below. However, as my skills and demands on it have increased (i.e. ripping and dadoing LOTS of hardwood trim)it is no longer up to the task and finally died. I got every penny's worth out of it though!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent value and precision
For the moderate woodworker or home remodeler, this benchtop table saw is excellent. The value and return-on-investment are tremendous. It is light weight, easily portable, and maintains its calibration and precision very well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Getting a lot of use out of this tool, but not without flaws
I am a novice woodworker and received this miter jig with my Delta CS. I've gotten a lot of use out the tool in a pretty short period of time, which is why I gave it 4 stars. However, I've had some of the same problems as others - unit is very heavy, so getting it on and off the table is a bit of pain. The weight should make for smooth travel, but I still get a fair amount of resistance - slot key is set to minimum width. BTW, first slot key I received was warped and I had to get a new one from Delta (who were very helpful). Also find you have to be careful with the stop because it moves 1/8" or more as you tighten it down. Those issues aside, the unit functions well - I've used it to crosscut plywood panels and hardwoods and have been happy with the results. This is the only sliding miter jig I've used, so I cannot judge how it compares to others.

3-0 out of 5 stars The guard is annoying and the clamp was not thought out well
I got this as a part of the kit that includes the contractors saw and beisemeyer fence.I put everything together and it works well enough, but I have these issues:

1) I ended up taking off the fence, since it is exclusive with the saw's guard. Now I just tie off the left anti-kickback pawl on the saw's gaurd and use it in place.
2) The thing is heavy and awkward. Kind of hard to store (ok, now I am just bellyaching)
3) It does not slide well.I have the track, which is adjustable, adjusted down to it's smallest size, and it still binds considerably.I have to push with a worrisome amount of pressure.

and worst:
4) The clamp is not designed well. The steel clamp is attached to the aluminum body of the jig with a steel bolt.On my pilot run, I stuck some scrap pine on the fence, and started cranking down.I had not put very much pressure on the wood at all, when the bolt had completely stripped the aluminum threads. The bolt just pulled out.Sure, I could have tightened too much, but I don't think so.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for panel cutting.. Makes my miter saw obsolete!
I recently had trouble making square cuts on some bookcase sides. The stock miter gauge that came with the table saw didn't have enough contact area to get a good square cut.

I looked at the Incra miter guage at a local woodworking shop, when the clerk recommended this unit.It has given my saw new life!I recently had to make some dados on some 20" glued up panels, and this unit made it painless.Simply set the fence stop, and cut each piece... the result is perfectly bookmatched dados.

I can't imagine doing some of my recent work without this jig.As a matter of fact, my DeWalt 12" miter saw gets less use now that I can make such decent cuts with this jig! ... Read more

Raised panels, here you come. And you'll never have to buy another piece ofmolding again. The Shopmaster SH100's powerful 9 amp ball bearing induction motorwill run 1/4-inch and 1/2-inch bits at 12,500 rpm through any stock you feed it. It comeswith a two-piece fence, and the halves are independently adjustable, so you'll get precisedepth of cut and ample support post-cut. The clear blade guard does double duty, keepingchips and dust away from your face and helping the dust chute pull out the waste. Weparticularly like the spindle control knob and its height indicator scale, which makeadjustments easier. The lock knob securely holds your settings, and the 3-3/4-inch insertopening will take even the beefiest bit. The 18-by-20-inch die-cast aluminum table offersgreat work support and has a slot opening for accessory holding devices. 4-0 out of 5 stars My opinion and experiences with Delta's router /shaper
Today I recieved my new sh100 Delta/shaper. Took me an hour to put it together. Everything looked good. Has a lot of rough edges on the aluminum table. I took care of this problem with a sheet of 150 grit sandpaper and some paste wax and five minutes of sanding the top. No more rough edges. This is no longer a problem.I must confess this isn't my first Delta shaper. I have the older model and use it a lot. Made a lot of furniture with this very inexpensive machine. I use it more than my Grizzly 3 horsepower and Delta 3 horse power shapers. Not saying it is better than either but I am saying it is easier to get this machine set up and running than the larger machines. This router shaper fits the niche between the larger and smaller machines and does a good job. When I make raised panel drawers I set the Grizzly up for cutting stiles. The big Delta for cutting panels and the router shaper for cutting rails. I use a guide on the sh100 delta when cutting ends on rails to cut out splintering. Works great. Even made a guide out of wood that works good on this machine.
my older Delta has been serving me for approximately 8 years now and while it isn't perfect it is a great machine for a little less than $250. If your not at least a little experienced in running this kind of machine, I can see that some of the features it has can be frustrating at times. Nothing about this machine should frighten you from buying it. In a short time u will be running it like a pro. One thing when u buy this machine. Don't expect to get a cadillac when spending enough money to buy a kiddie car. Ain't gonna happen. I see a lot of negative opinions about this router/shaper and for the life of me I can't understand some of the negativity. Buy one, study the book and u will be glad u did. Don't worry about not having enough power. In all my years with my machine I never bogged mine down once. If your afraid of it and push your wood too hard against the cutter u probably bog down. The induction motor on this machine is really a plus. It runs nicely and never screams at you like a universal motor on a router will do. I could go on for hours and your only going to find out how good this machine is by buying your own and learning to use it properly. I always figure any machine I buy is able to perform much better than my ability to run it is. Untill I conquer the learning curve. Thanks woodworkers. Mitch

4-0 out of 5 stars This is NOT a bad machine.
Beleive me Ive seen much worse. Other than my miter saw, its the only tool in my shop with an aluminum top. The height adjustment is somewhat tedious, but not useless. Its not a micro prescision deal by far.

As to the reviewer complaining that it didnt come with a miter gauge... Why on earth do you need a miter gauge on a shaper table? The Miter Slot is for a featherboard, like the bench dog with slot adapter, not a miter gauge.

Ive raised panels, and done many things with this. Anyone who uses 1/4 bits in it is making a mistake. Why would you? Use 1/2 Bits in this machine. Raising panels is not a problem, and mine hasnt bogged down. Rememebr the one pass per 1/2" of bit diamater rule. The speed is a bit slow for smaller bits but it works.

As to the fence, Buy a $15 Incra t track, make an aux fence 1/2" thick and notched for the bit. This makes the fence a 1piece easy to adjust deal, and adds a place for two track mount featherboards.

I got this one for a steal at $129 on clearance at lowes and I really like this machine.

Will it perfrom like a 3 HP router and precision table with micro adjustment? No. Will it perfrom like an X5 shaper? No. Does it do the job? Absolutely.

4-0 out of 5 stars Delta SH100 Shopmaster Bench Top Router/Shaper
ASSEMBLY: Assembly was straightforwoard and took less than 30 minutes.

SETUP: Table alignment was acceptable out of the box.

PROs and CONs: I purchased this tool for use as a router table rather than a shaper, and it seems satisfactory for this purpose. However, the overhead blade guard did not fit in the hole provided in the table, nor did the replacement Delta sent me. The usable vertical spindle movement is only about 1-1/4 inches, limiting the use of longer bits. Finally, the small size of the adjustment knob makes adjusting the bit height more of a task than it need be. ... Read more
