4-0 out of 5 stars HOME WOODWORKER
THIS IS THE ADAPTOR YOU WANT IF YOU HAVE A 4" DUST COLLECTOR. THE PICTURE IS MISLEADING BECAUSE THE DUST CHUTE IS NOW OFFSET TO CLEAR ANY MOBILE BASE PROBLEMS YOU MIGHT HAVE HAD. ITS A LITTLE OVER PRICED FOR A PIECE OF SHEET METAL AND A STANDARD PLASTIC DUST CHUTE ( PART # 406-12-026-0001). IT WOULD BE MORE REASONABLE FOR AROUND 20 BUCKS, BUT FOR WHAT DELTA WANTS FOR A NEW UNISAW IT SHOULD BE INCLUDED.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just right, but could be a bit sturdier
This works great, and with my mobile base. I would suggest a 90-degree adaptor with a 6" length of hose to make it a bit easier to hook up to the rest of the system.

Requires the removal of the lower shelf (at least so far), but I don't really use it anyway.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not recommended with Delta mobile base
I do not recommend this dust connector in combination with Delta's mobile base.I had two issues: The dust port is too close to the swivel caster and interferes with the hose connection. The right side exit required a tight radius bend of flex hose to get to my left side duct collection pipe.I found rear exiting 50-224 (with 5" opening) to be better. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Accessory
After using my Delta saw and 30" Unifence with the 50-277 mobile base for a few months, I was concerned about having the extension table simply suspended above the floor while I moved the saw. It worked, but it was certainly not elegant. Worse, when the table legs were lifted off the floor and then thumped down when the base was lowered into position, it looked as if the resulting torque and impact eventually might do some damage.

The Delta 50-285 solved the problem beautifully. Assembly was very straightforward, taking about twenty minutes.

Now, moving the saw is easy and--most imporatant--the entire assembly is completely supported by the steel understructure.

There is nothing fancy here; it is a marvelous low-tech answer to the challenge of having this indispensable power tool easily and securely transportable in a small shop space.

5-0 out of 5 stars well made
This blade is well made. The weld joint is very smooth.I have this on my Grizzly 14" bandsaw with a riser kit.It makes nice tight turns.

These 1/8" blades are so small, do _not_ try to back up.You shouldn't back up anyway, but it's a really bad idea with a narrow blade. They can pull off the wheels too easily. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Here's proof that you don't need a lot of shop space or a lot of money to drill like the pros. Delta's 8-inch Shopmaster offers five speeds for a wide range of drilling materials, and you don't even have to know what speed is the right one--there's a chart inside the pulley cover that dictates belt speed according to hole size and material. Changing speeds is as simple as adjusting the belt on the pulley. The drill head moves up and down a full 2 inches, and, in addition, the cast-iron table rides smoothly along the column with a secure locking mechanism to keep the table in place. The table tilts, too, for when you need to drill an angled hole. The three-jaw chuck will accept bits up to 1/2 inch, and when you're done drilling, just pop out the removable safety switch to prevent unauthorized use. It's a smooth-running machine just perfect for the smaller shop or beginner. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Drill for the price
Compared to the DP200 which is 20% to 33% more expensive, this drill lacks only (1) a work light, (2) uses a clamp to adjust the table height instead of gear and hand-crank, and (3) has only about 8" of travel on the quill instead of the 10" on the DP200. For the money, this is the better deal. You can often find the DP115 on sale and at that price it is a great starter drill for wood, metal, and other hobby and other work. I've used mine with sanding drums to also avoid the cost of a standalone drum sander in my home shop. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent professional grade heavy duty press
It was too much trouble to move belts to adjust speed on my previous drill presses, but I knew the right speed did a better job and made the bit last longer.

Delta appears to own the market for reasonably-priced variable-speed drill presses. The 17-925 has an incredibly long (6") quill travel, plus a very wide speed range (150-3200 RPM).Run-out on my machine is practically nil, regardless of the quill location. There was minor belt-cover vibration which was fixed with some stick-on felt.At 74" tall, this is a large, top heavy, machine.Probably unnecessary, but I bolted two 50 LB weightlifting plates onto the base, to mitigate a tip-over.Bolting it to the floor offers maximum stability, but mine's on a mobile base. The metal-working table also works just fine for wood-working -- it's easy to clamp work down since the table has many flat areas underneath. The handle knobs are hard and small for comfortable use, so I bought a can of liquid rubber and coated each handle - much better. The 110V motor is amply sized for everything I've thrown at it.Although more power is unnecessary, a simple motor wiring change to 220V does just that.

No lamp is included, but that's easily fixed with the addition of a standard Delta goose-neck accessory lamp bolted to the press's (left side) lamp lug.I installed two more lamps -- a 24" goose-neck magnetic lamp stuck to the top plate, and a 30 watt mini-flood mounted INSIDE the hollow area behind the quill, aimed to below the chuck location.Talk about LIGHT!All three lamps operate on a single switch.

Bolting my very heavy cross-vice to the table significantly increased table raising effort.Worse, rotating the table now made the raising-rack (column gear-piece) bind in it's bottom channel.Had to pull up heftily on the table whenever raising or turning it - thus, a four star rating, versus five.(If you don't add a heavy vice, this won't be an issue.)My "fix" was a counter-weight apparatus using three strong garage door springs, four pulleys, and a steel cable that pulls the table UP with significant force. It now takes equal cranking effort to raise or lower, the table.

The principal features of this press are the terrific variable speed mechanism and the extra-long quill travel.Everything works as advertised -- I'd buy the same press again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Drill Press Review
I have wanted a variable speed drill press for some time, as I was tired of changing the belts every time I needed to adjust the speed.I was hesitant about buying the Delta, as most good variable speed drill presses are twice as expensive.Having given up on trying to locate a used commercial machine, I took the plunge and purchased the Delta.

As soon as I put it together the first thing I checked was run-out.I was pleasantly surprised when I found I had only .001.The run-out did not change even when I extended the quill. As you can imagine I was beaming at that point.Next test was vibration. Again, surprised, I had little vibration.I am sure with a heaver castings, I would have less; but I could not complain about what I had, it was nominal.

All in all, I was very pleased/surprised with my purchase as I think Delta in some cases has sacrificed quality to bring it's product in at a lower price point.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Welcomed Upgrade for My Home Shop
I have used this unit for over a year. It was purchased as an upgrade from the commonly available Multi-speed floor units. With those units, I found myself too lazy to continually change the belts to get the correct speed. I knew using the correct speed was important to hole quality and cutting tool life, but it made a bigger difference than I had expected. The vibration and quill runout is fine. I like the extra long quill length. The depth stop and quill lock are convenient and easy to use. So much so, that I use them. The base is larger than most units and provides stability. The table is larger than most, and the underside, once past the rim, provides adequate flat surfaces for clamping. There are some things I would add/change. It should come with a light. I purchased a Delta magnetic base unit. There is an optional light available. Either way, you end up with two power cords/plugs. All the handles could be of better quaility. As a direct user-interface, the handle plastic with sharp seams just does not do it for me. I replaced mine with 2" hardwood balls. Softer to the touch and I like the look. A chuck key holder should also be a standard feature. I have mine on a retractable key holder, attached with doublestick tape to the side of the machine. Finally, the feel of the on/off switch is less positive than I would expect. It is like the push buttons for the presets on an old American car radio. They worked, but thinking back, they just never did feel like the most well-engineered design. Bottom Line: I do like the machine and am happy with my buying decision. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not to my Expectations
I purchased this 1/8" blade to allow my bandsaw to compete with the scroll saw on radius cuts. The bandsaw is must faster cutting than the scrollsaw, and this blade is rated at a 3/16" radius cut, so I thought I would give it a try.

While the speed of cutting the 3/4" oak is great, the accuracy is not as precise as expected. The blade tends to wander with the grain of the oak, following the path of least resistance.I tried various different blade tension and blade guide adjustments, but the 1/8" blade would still wander about. It makes a great rough cut, but not precise enough to be the final cut, even for a 2 inch radius cut, yet alone the claimed 3/16" radius rating.

Thinking I was doing something wrong with the blade settings, I've had several other woodworkers over to take a look and offer suggestions. They have come up with the same results. The scrollsaw is not as fast cutting, but in the long run, it's single precise cut with no rework is must faster.

I will continue to play with the 1/8" blade to get it to work the way it is advertised for the small radius cuts, but in the meantime, my bandsaw will mainly have a 3/4" resaw blade installed. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The first time you run a workpiece through this jointer, you'll know thesatisfaction that precision brings. You'll be surfacing pieces as wide as 6-1/8 inches witha maximum pass depth of 1/8 inch over a 2-1/2-inch, three-blade cutterhead. If you'veused a benchtop jointer in the past, you'll love stepping up to the JT360, with its 46-inchbed and 4-7/8-inch fence that tilts to 45 degrees--in and out--for beveling and chamfering.Positive stops are at 45 and 90 degrees. The bed is cast iron, and the infeed and outfeedtables operate smoothly on the gibbed dovetail ways. What's nice about moving up to thismodel is its 1/2-inch rabbeting capacity, perfect for picture frame moldings and lots ofother projects. We're even impressed with the stand's solid, wide footprint andcomfortable 33-inch height. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars good all around jointer
I began my search for a jointer at home depot, and after they made me angry i decided to go back to buying my tools here.At first i was weary about ordering machinery off the internet, but the experience was actually pretty pleasant.i went with 3 to 5 day shipping after hearing horror stories from people not getting thier stuff on time.my package arrived on time i was able to track it every step of the way and the best part was i didn'thave to make a claim on the package.

As for the jointer itself it's good enough for me and will probably last me a long time. It's heavy and is by no means cheaply made. It's acurate to within 1/32" and thats good enough for me.i set a good square on the fence and table and at the most i could probly only fit a sheet of paper under a couple areas. If this is good enough for me a carpenter apprentice and a rookie wood worker so it should suit all you homeowner/hobby enthusiasts out there. This unit though is certainly no homeowners special.

Setup took about three hours and a couple of tools(wrench set and a good shop ruler).Everything lined up close enough and i only had to rig a few things (very minor). The directions aren't great, but i managed and any semi-intelligent person could do the same. You are gonna need a buddy though, first to help get it off the truck and then to set a few things up.The jointers packaged weight is 250 pounds so make your own decision on how much help you need.

In the end though here is why i went with the delta. Final price after shipping was $334with the free $25 discount.Home depots' Ridgid was $400 with tax and i would rather have a brand name that's been around a while. As for Jets' similar jointer it just looks cheap.I hope this helps some of you and if you buy it like me you probably won't regret it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just as advertised
I am pleased with this new addition to my shop. The assembly instructions were easy to follow but you definitely need to wear disposable rubber gloves to protect yourself from the oily parts. All were rust free however. A socket set speeds final tightening. I had none of the problems noted in other reviews and I could not find this item at a lower price anywhere. Operation is quiet with little vibration. Perhaps a really serious woodworker can justify spending more but I think that I got just what I need.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool for the price
This is the third jointer I have owned. The first a small cheapie bench top model that worked ok just didn't have enough bed length. The second was a Shopsmith 4" that worked just fine.
But mounting it to the Shopsmith got old quick. Also the bed length came into play again for any boards over 2 feet or so.
This jointer is great for the price. Does everything I hoped it would. The fence and tables were dead-on right out of the box. Knife settings were also right on. All I really had to do was assemble it and square the fence. I have used it quite a bit in the last few weeks. It has performed flawlessly! Sure it is not as pretty as many others out there what with the open stand and all, but that doesn't mean this is jointer isn't a great value, it surly is that. Fit and finish were great. Not as much grease to clean as some of my other Delta tools and assembly was simple. Don't be afraid to save a few bucks and get this guy! You won't be sorry.
The shipping was through ABF freight systems. I was able to track it throughout the shipping process and got a call to arrange delivery. The driver backed down my long driveway, and unloaded the heavy package into my garage. I didn't have to do a thing other than signing for it. There were a few holes punched in the box and I was concerned about damage. After opening the box I was pleasantly surprised to find how well this jointer was packaged. No damage at all!I took all the parts down to my basement shop and assembled it to the point of mounting the jointer to the stand. I got some help carrying the jointer downstairs and sitting it on the stand. After finishing the mounting and squaring it up I put it to use. I was going to buy the Delta wheeled base but after assembly it was pretty easy to drag into place. I saved the $50 for the portable base as I only need to move it on rare occasions and that is easily accomplished just by dragging it into place. The dust chute works well for me. I din't hook up to a dust collector or even a shop vac. Instead I put a cardboard box on the floor and 90% of the chips fall in. So I empty the box twice a week into the garbage pail. No hassel and so simple.
I am very satisfied with this jointer and the shipping/delivery used. I would not hesitate to do it again if needed.
For ratings I give it an
A for quality
A for fit and finish
B for assembly (some bolts are hard to get at)
A for shipping
A for quietness
A+ for value.

Editorial Review

Just because those who deliver the mail don't let rain or sleet stop them from their appointed rounds doesn't mean you have to trudge out in bad weather several times a day to see if the mail has arrived. Ideal for those with mailboxes at the end of long driveways, Design Tech's wireless Mail Alert notifies homeowners or renters when their mailboxes are full. Once the mail person opens your mailbox door, a receiver inside your home chimes once every five minutes for two hours and a light constantly flashes until you reset the unit. The unit's 300-foot range should cover most driveways, and you can adjust the sensitivity of the receiver--an especially valuable feature if your mailbox is frequently rattled. Make sure your trips to the mailbox are infrequent during cold and wet winter days by welcoming the Mail Alert into your household. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Worked as expected
Having read another review of this product, I had some trepidation before ordering. I called the manufacturer's Technical Department. and was encouraged by what I heard. I decided to order, largely because of Amazon's liberal return policy. Now that I have it, I find the product to work admirably. Each time the postal deliverer opens my mailbox, the system alerts me. There have been no false alarms. I would recommend this product to anyone who is tired of repeated trips to the mailbox.

1-0 out of 5 stars Mail Alert didn't alert!
I installed the Mail Alert receiever inside my house behind a window with clear view of the mail box. The glass and window screen were the only thing between the transmitter and receiver. Distance about 175 ft. Installed transmitter as specified on mail box. The receiver would light up and beep once about 1 out of 5 times I opened the mail box door. Otherwise nothing happened. I checked the battery with a digital VOM and voltage was 3" VDC which indicated a new battery. I returned the Mail Alert device as it would not work consistantly. I did receive superior service from Amazon with full refund including postage both ways. ... Read more

Are these going to cut flawless holes in wood? No, but how many bits do.Are they going to last for years?Probably not.Are they a great value for the money spent?Yes.

I bought these because I didn't want to pay $85 for a good Freud set.For a beginner, a one time project, or a home woodworker on a budget, this is the perfect set to buy.Any set right out of the box will cut relatively cleanly, its how a bit performs on the 100th hole that tells the story.Obviously, a better carbide set would cut cleaner, longer, but since I could buy four of these sets for the price of the Freud, I still say these are money saved. They allow you to cut reasonable clean (not perfect), flat bottomed holes for less than 1/4 of the cost of a truly great set.Because they are not carbide, of course they will not last as long between sharpenings and ultimately have to be replaced sooner. But, for my needs as a home woodworker, buying this set allows me to get right to work without breaking the tool budget.

4-0 out of 5 stars worth the money
for the money these bits are a good buy . cut good , last as long as any other brand . they're not as pricey as carbide and won't last as long . but for a home shop they are the best buy you will find . i recommend them highly . ... Read more

I just received this Delta Deluxe Miter Gauge #34-928. You wouldn't believe me if I told you how long ago I ordered it. I guess a fresh batch is in so order it quick. Now on to the item. When they say that it is accurate, the first thing I did, when I took it out of the box, was break out the Bosch Digital Protractor. It measures angles with a digital readout in tenths of a degree. (Equal to 3600 dots in a circle, no matter how small the circle) I put the miter gauge to the test. I clamped an aluminum level onto the face to extend the surface, and guess what? I got perfect readings after trying the detent stops, and even got the same results when I eyeballed a setting just using the pointer. It wasn't even off by a tenth of a degree.
At first I was confused, because some of the stops weren't right on the number, then I realized that they have stops at the popular detents, and some of those are in tenths of a degree.
Point number two is that I was impressed that the miter gauge bar that rides in your miter slot has little Allen bolts imbedded in it, so you can adjust it perfectly, to eliminate any play. When I put it in my Powermatic 66, it fit so perfectly, without any play, that I don't even need to fiddle with it. It is so snug that you would have to measure the play in thousandths of an inch, as in non-existent, yet it slides along the track like it was on greased wheels. It fit my Bench Dog miter track on their Router table extension for table saws the same way. The Might T track miter track guides had a little slop in it, but that is obviously the track and not the gauge. I guess you can tell where I will be using it. (Although the play is adjustable for any 3/4 x 3/8 track)
Point three is that the bottom of the gauge is polished so smooth that it will not scratch your saw tabletop. The front face of the gauge where you rest your work, looks like it was fine ground-polished with something like a 1000 grit wheel. You can see ultra-ultra fine lines going in a circle from where it was fine machined.
I strongly recommend that you also get Delta's clamp attachment that works with this gauge. The one that I bought is the 34-568 clamp assy, and it fits and works perfectly. Delta and Amazon feature the Delta cheapy miter gauge with the clamp as a combo package for about the same money as buying this Deluxe gauge and the 34-568 clamp assy as separate pieces. So for about the same money you are getting Delta's best, and in this example it is worthy of that title.
The gauge and clamp combo perfectly resolves the problem of when you are trying to cope the ends of your rails in a raised panel bit set. You know the problem, you have to hold that two-inch wide board and run the bit over the tip. Trying to get the bit to not move the board, by either pushing it a little away from the fence, or run into the second fence face causing a stop is a major accomplishment. Many use sleds with clamps on them, but then you are raising the work piece off of the table to make up for the sled base plate. With a router, that is a major consideration, because that oftentimes leads to having to raise the bit higher up out of the collar, causing more vibration and potentially a dangerous bit flying condition. This gauge and clamp combo locks it in just the same, but keeps the work piece flat against the tabletop. The other advantage to that is if you are running some larger pieces at the same time, you can do it by removing the gauge, and not have to change a bit setting. Wow! I'm getting off on this, I don't know about you. :-)
Another point is that the picture doesn't do it any justice. The fit, the finish, the accuracy of the deluxe gauge is better than any other miter gauge I have seen, even the one that came with the Powermatic saw. I can't recommend this high enough. Is it because it is a waxed Ferrari sitting in the garage? No, it is because it is as accurate and fine as a miter gauge can get. Buy one, you won't be sorry. Hope this helps.

4-0 out of 5 stars Does what it says it will do
The clamp goes on well and holds on to material securely. The only draw back is that the size that will fit in the miter clamp is limited by the rails securing the hold down.Really not a flaw, just an inconvenience.Amazing how Delta stuff fits so well on Delta products. ... Read more

I just received Delta's DELUXE Miter Gauge # 34-928 and as a separate item the Delta 34-568 Clamp Attachment. It's a marriage made in heaven. Not only does the clamp attachment work like it was made for it, (because it was, as well as in the 34-895K kit)but because the Deluxe Gauge is so well made. It goes for about the same money as the cheapy that comes with the kit, so why not buy them individually and go for the gold. Here is my review on the Deluxe setup.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor workmanship
There is no way that this long blade adaptor can be leveled with the horizontal stone on the 23-710 Sharpener. It too is a poorly designed piece of equipment. The support can not be lowered sufficiently and even then it is about 1/4" higher on one side of the stone than the other. It is obvious that little engineering went into this support. I can not recommend this to anyone. It is a pure waste of money as is the sharpening center itself. I finally gave up trying to make use if this unit and bought a Swedish made one. Now, that one is a great 5+ star unit.

4-0 out of 5 stars can't level as manual suggests
the only problem i had with this adapter is that the instructions in the manual for leveling it with the stones are incorrect.the set screws for the mounting bar go into a groove in it, so you can't rotate it.but, i simply spun the mounting bar so i DON'T hit the groove, and it's fine now.i'm not horribly THRILLED about that, but i can tolerate it. ... Editorial Review

Delta's Shopmaster TS220 is a step up from their benchtop saw, offering a larger table with outfeed extensions and a powerful 15 amp motor that can slice through hardwoods without bogging down. The solid anodized-aluminum table measures 17-1/2 by 34 inches and allows for a 20-inch maximum rip to the right of the blade. When working with long pieces, you can pull out the steel outfeed extension for better support, then collapse it back into the table when you're done for more compact storage. There's a front- and rear-locking T-square-type fence, and while it isn't as desirable as the fences found on larger Delta saws, it's more accurate than the fences we find on many benchtop saws. We also like the large paddle switch that makes quick shutdowns easy and the sturdy steel stand that comes with this saw. This saw will work great for do-it-yourselfers and beginning woodworkers, but professionals and people taking on more extensive home remodeling work will want to consider stepping up to the greater capacity offered by one of Delta's industrial saws. --Brian Trinen ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Great Value but Has Flaws
If you are on a tight budget and need a bench-top table saw this saw is an excellent choice. At half the price of the DeWalt and Bosch bench tops and $150 less than the Makita benchtop the Delta is a great value for what it can do. Its a basic saw that performs adequately. The fit and finish is only average.

The positives are that it is quite light compared to the DeWalt and Bosch, about as light as the Makita which makes it easy to transport from job to job. It has a very strong motor every bit as good as the DeWalt or Bosch but a bit noisier. It has not bogged down on me even when ripping wet pressure treated lumber.

Negatives are that it has a crappy fence although a lot of saws do. DeWalt wins hands down for the best fence. Miter slots are too small to use standard accessories except the miter gauge that comes with saw. Bevel adjustment is somewhat difficult to set and disengage. No insert for a Dado blade. Insert plate sits out of flush with table so that your work piece can get hung up.

Bottom line: Great for those on a budget that do not need high performance out of a bench top.

4-0 out of 5 stars Much better than expected
You already know it has a smallish table and non-standard miter slots. So let's call this half a table saw. I paid $179 for mine. That's half a table saw at a third the price of a "real" table saw. So I couldn't resist trying it out.

In brief, you can do everything with this little saw that you can with a contractor's saw, plus one thing more: You can heave it around your shop, or up the stairs, or into your station wagon. With careful setup and adjustment, everything locks down straight and true. The measuring tape on the rip fence rail is amazingly accurate.

I have one major complaint: Would it have killed Delta to make the miter gage slide a little longer?

I'm chronicling my experiences with this tool at http://benchsaw.blogspot.com

For a more complete review:

  • Why I bought it

  • First cuts and a miter gage improvement

I'd recommend this saw to cheapskates like me with limited shop space and a tendency to make their own jigs and fixtures, since you can't use store-bought ones.

3-0 out of 5 stars Delta TS220LS Shopmaster 10" Bench Saw
This review is an update reflecting a couple of months of regular use. I've deducted one star for the throat insert, as detailed below.

ASSEMBLY: Assembly took over an hour, due mainly to the time required to positively identify the many fasteners.

SETUP: Heel-to-toe blade alignment, miter gauge alignment, and fence alignment were acceptable out of the box. Blade tilt stops and indicator were off, and after adjustment they did not return dependably to the preset stops.

PROs and CONs: This saw cuts well and produces clean, accurate cuts. However, as has been my previous experiences with Delta Shopmaster tools, they are a decent value for the price, but attention to detail is lacking. My main complaint with this tool is the crappy insert that doesn't sit flush with the table, causing boards to sometimes hang up on the exposed lip when ripping with the fence. This not only decreases accuracy, but leads to frustration and potentially dangerous situations when ripping thin material and cross-cutting short workpieces. Another problem is the non-standard miter gauge slots which do not accept after-market accessories such as featherboards and tenon jigs. ... Read more
