Editorial Review

For one of the lightest models on the market, the DeWalt full round head framing nailer sure packs some power. At just 7.6 pounds (thanks to its magnesium housing and magazine), the 51845 still delivers up to 900 inch/pounds of driving power. Its conservative 12-3/4-inch height lets you toe-nail where space is at a premium. DeWalt’s unique design buries nails even in engineered lumber with minimal recoil, putting less stress on your body. Ergonomics get another boost from the comfortable, curved trigger and shock-absorbing grip. Resetting your depth of drive is blessedly tool-free, fast and easy, and we also like the quick-release jam-clearing feature for its savings of time and frustration. Safety is a priority, with a dry-fire lockout that keeps the tool from firing when the magazine is empty, a trigger lock-off to disable the tool when not in use, and a steel exhaust deflector that protests the tool if it’s dropped. DeWalt even tucked a pair of safety glasses in the box. A reversible rafter hook will let you hang the tool from a rafter or keep it handy on your toolbelt.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this gun....
Day 1...gun misfires and frequently jams.Later in day gun fails to fire at all.Day 2 Return gun purchased on Day 1.New gun fires but jambs frequently.Unjamming of gun annoying and not tool free.

Until Dewalt gets its act together, purchase a tried and true Hitachi which is what i did on Day 3.

2-0 out of 5 stars Comfortable but not durable
Bought this model when it first came out worked pretty good for about 2 years. It was Ergonomic andcomfortable, but the trigger started leaking could not find any one local to repair it, sent it to dewalt repair center cost $135.00 to repair. I think I go back to Hitachi nail gun or maybe try Max nail guns.

1-0 out of 5 stars Junk
I bought two of these nailers, the first one leaked air out of the trigger the first time I attached an air hose. I returned it and bought another. It worked great for about a week. Then it started to jam every other nail load. It started to leak air. I finally got so mad I threw it off the roof in to a dumpster. Piece of garbage, buy a Senco, or hitachi. ... Read more

Editorial Review

All right-angle drill drivers are not the same. Sure, they get the same job done--but it’s how easy the tool makes the job that sets the brands apart. This DeWalt model that comes with our highest recommendation. Powered by DeWalt’s system of nice, compact 14.4-volt batteries, the tool boasts a tight, thoughtful design. The best feature, we think, is what DeWalt calls its "multi-grip trigger." The trigger is as long as your little finger, and the lower section of handle is textured for a sturdy grip, allowing you to get the tool up into a tight workspace with an extended reach that the other brands don’t offer. Another advantage, if you have smaller hands: the easy-to-grip battery is slides on and off easily. Two speed ranges, 0 to 400 and 0-1,250 rpm, offer you lots of applications. The drill is tough enough for the pro and feature-friendly enough for the do-it-yourselfer--we can envision this making quick work of a ducting project at home or on the job.Installing drawer guides in a case piece? No problem with this DeWalt. It can even handle larger bits and fasteners with its 210 inch-pounds ofmaximum torque. Two batteries, a one-hour charger, and a hard-plastic carrying case round out a great package. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, highly useful tool
I love this drill! It was absolutely invaluable for working in the tight angles and narrow spaces I encountered during an extensive kitchen remodel I completed this last summer. I find lots of other uses as an avid woodworker too. Although DeWalt makes an 18-volt version my regular drill/driver has interchangeable power packs for this model. The 14.4-volt batteries last plenty long, have sufficient power for my needs, and recharge quickly. It comes with two batteries so I haven't had any downtime. I found the variable speeds easy to control with the "multi-grip" trigger. The keyless chuck is very convenient and the two clutch settings are essential for switching between drilling/driving applications. Set properly, it always had enough torque for either job. It is very ergonomic with great weight and balance: while it is much easier to control with two hands, it can be used with only one in a pinch (at least for drilling, anyway).

4-0 out of 5 stars Exactly right
This drill is a great combination of size & power.I use it for all kinds of stuff.Hogging through studs for electrical, pocket drilling in tight spaces, driving screws, etc.

The more I use it the more I like it.I considered the 9.6v makita but was concerned that it wouldn't have the staying power to drill lots of holes through studs (this was the case for the non standard 9.6v makita). Also I wanted the slow speed this drill provides.

Eventhough this drill was a bit pricy I am glad I choose it.It is serving me quite well.

I only wish it had a clutch for driving screws. This keeps me from giving it 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why did we not buy this sooner!
We install a lot of kitchens, this pays for its self when putting in a 12" wide or less cabinet, trying to secure the face frames. If you can justify it the budget it is well worth it! Please its not t tool you use lots and lots, so you get two 14.4V batteries that interchange with your other Dewalt tools! ... Read more

Editorial Review

This router combo pack from DeWalt has all the design features to make it a popular choice with woodworkers and professional carpenters. The tool's powerhouse is a smooth-running, 12 amp, 2-1/4-horsepower variable-speed motor with soft start and a spindle lock. When using the fixed base, a micro-fine adjustment ring is used to dial in the height setting at 1/64-inch increments, so the motor itself doesn't need to be turned, and as a consequence, the position of the switch and cord doesn't change every time your cut-depth does. This kit also comes with DeWalt's DW6182 plunge-router base--making it essentially two routers at one price--and DeWalt has thoughtfully made motor removal and base changing a quick and easy, tool-free operation. The plunge base features DeWalt's through-the-column dust collection system (which is also used in their popular DW621 dedicated plunge router). This efficient feature quickly removes the dust, leaving you with better cut visibility and a cleaner workspace. The plunge action itself is as smooth as you'd want, and the micro-fine depth adjustment offers precision to 5/128 inch. In addition, there's a built-in, five-position adjustable turret stop for use in making repeated or stepped plunge cuts. As finishing touches, the toggle switch is sealed against dust penetration, and the cord is fully detachable for use with other DeWalt bases and to protect it in storage. DeWalt's engineers and designers clearly spent a lot of time making sure this router package addressed every need a woodworker could have, and the result is a tool that stands with the best in its price range. --Brian Trinen ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful router
I just bought this router, and I'm extremely pleased with it. Previous to it, I was using a cheap Ryobi router, but that didn't have the precision or the base plates that I needed. I'm now using the Ryobi only in a table, which is great because i can go back and forth between hand and table routing very easily. I started with the Dewalt by making some dovetail jigs. The electronic variable speed works very nicely. It is quite simple to alter the speed to suit the wood and material you are using. In my case, I was using oak to make a box for one of my kids.

Changing bits and collets is very easy. The base is standard, so it is easy to put in guides. Setting bit height is also very easy and accurate.

My favorite feature of the router so far is that it has absolutely no kick on startup or shutdown. You can easily hold it with one hand and rotate it during startup or shutdown if you want (I don't suggest this) without any gyroscope pull.

I haven't tried the plunge base yet, but I'm sure i will soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Flawless
I've owned this router for 2 years now.It has worked flawlessly. The plung router is smooth to operate.Dust does not affect the operation.I use the fixed base for cutting moulding and for use on the router table.I have never had a problem with power. The soft start is a great feature and helps prevent your circuit breakers from popping.Another nice feature to the soft start is that you don't have this thing trying to twist out of your hand when you start it up.I would hate to lose control with a sharp carbide bit spinning at 24,000 RPM.The only recommendation that I would make is that you should buy the 2 1/4 HP.Don't try and save a buck and buy the lower powered model. This is a well thought out tool. The motor sounds like a BMW engine and all the parts fit together like a finely tuned machine.Buy it and enjoy yourselft. You won't regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Router
This is the first router I have purchased.I have used many and this, by far, beats them all.

+ Warm-up starting, quiet, comfortable handles, excellent control, and precision.

- Somewhat top heavy and the storage box is huge.

I would recommend this to all users reguardless of skill level ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Bang for the buck anywhere
I purchased this drill (actually i think an older version of the same one) used in 2001 and have abused it in every way possible since then. In my job installing car stereo's we go through an average of 2-3 batteries per day and have tried every brand out, but the DeWalt drills have taken far more abuse than any of them.

Mine i have even been running 14.4v batteries in for years and the motor has taken it fine, no smell's, funny sounds or anything else. I have dropped it from 10+ ft with no issues on numerous times. Ive even taken to throwing it on the concrete just to show people how it just will not break. Simply amazes me.

People complain about the battery life as compared to some other drills. This makes no sense to me since ive been a long time fan of Makita, have owned Makita, Black and decker firestorm, porter cable and milwaukee drills and none of them have the battery life of the DeWalt. A fellow installer has been kicking himself because his makita 12v light will run for about 15 mins on a fresh battery while mine will run for 2+hours.

Now in my full time job as a maintenance man at a hospital we have swapped over exclusively to DeWalt drills, replacing porter cable, craftsman and bosch drills.

I am sold on these drills and the abuse that they take and now own 3 of them, one made in 1997, one in 2000, and the other in 2001 and all 3 of them are still alive and kicking, running off of the original batteries no less with no batteries having died yet.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Drill, Bad Battery Performance
I love the balance, torque (and adjustability), low and high speed settings...but the battery life (both the length they hold a charge and the number of charges they take before end of life) pales in comparison to my old (non XR) DeWalt 12 V cordless.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice but a few problems
Overall I like this drill but there are 2 problems that would make me consider buying another DeWalt drill. First after about 3 years of very minimal use both batteries have died, and of course the price of one battery is close to half the price of the entire drill purchased new. The second problem is the terrible balance of the drill, It can stand up on its own, but add quick change chuck and it cant even stand on its own. So...........In hindsight I wish I had bought th Makita.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but at a price
Definitely a major time-saver - without this (and it's requisite partner, the DW7050), the process of duplicating cuts would be much more time-consuming.Not the best design (it's a lot of guesstimations if you're cutting a longer piece than the base of the saw - causing you to have to measure with one hand, support the stop with one hand, and tighten it up with your other hand). If this had some sort of fine-adjustment mechanism to get past the need for three hands in such cases it would be perfect (and then actually worth the cost of having to buy both the DW7050 and the DW7051)

Considering what you get, this kit is expensive. Still, I don't know where I could get the same sort of thing elsewhere.I think the price of DW7050 is probably about right if DW7051 and DW7050 were sold together as onesingle kit. I won't go so far as to tell you not to buy this, because it'suseful. Just be aware that if your do, your paying a premium to DeWalt!

One thing to note. Pay close attention to how you put it together. Theway you do so depends on whether or not you are putting it on the right oron the left side of your saw. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The DeWalt cordless 18-volt variable-speed jig saw is built with operator convenience in mind. Start with a keyless shoe that slides back and forth for cutting flush in tight spaces. Add to that a comfortable grip, which provides greater stability and control. Throw in clear markings every 15 degrees left and right of center that make it easy to find just the right angle for the job. Put it all together, and what you get is a pretty handy jig saw with a surprising amount of power (up to 2,000 spm) for a cordless. The unit weighs just 7.3 pounds and is easy to operate. Two orbital settings provide quicker, more accurate cuts in softer materials such as plastic and wood, while a straight-line setting is ideal for cutting metal and other hard surfaces. A removable plastic shoe cover protects easily scratched surfaces and locks securely into place for easy use, while a built-in dust blower clears debris ahead of the cut for better visibility. All in all, an impressive performer.--Carl Thress ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Versatile and powerful performer - but not terribly straight
I'm reviewing the DeWalt European 18v version (ELU) of this jig saw and I must say that it is truly a versatile and very powerful cordless jig saw but the trade-off, in my opinion, is that you can't ask this particular saw to do what -- say a Bosch 1584AVS -- corded jig saw can do. If you can live with certain limitations (a pronounced tendency to veer or wander especially if you try to follow a guide or push it along, an almost annoying plastic cutting guide that vibrates off repeatedly in operation, limited cutting power especially in thick materials like MDF, and some above-average vibration in thinner materials) then this jig saw warrants a much closer look. I'm a firm believer in buying items that fulfill their intended purpose, i.e. don't try to train a cat to bark like a dog, and so the portability, convenience and overall power more than offset this saw's shortcomings. If you a serious jig saw user, then you really should opt for a corded model with more power and better overall performance.

3-0 out of 5 stars Tranny job
Saw arrived 4 PM Friday. Tried Sat. AM. Shipped back Monday PM. Dewalt said it had a misaligned transmission. It's corded counterpart has been my pleasure. This made all of 1" of cut before I detected a problem. The saw would not run beside a cutting guide. The blade was not parallel to the shoe. This is carelessness by Dewalt. It should not have been shipped in such a state. When I got home from UPS I found an e-mail from Amazon telling me that they had already shipped a replacement. I look forward to what I hope will be a sound, well aligned saw. It's corded brother is.
About 3 weeks later:
The replacement saw arrived quickly. Like the first saw, it is nice to use. But, like the first saw, the blade was set at an angle to the axis of the saw. Clearly this is not Amazons fault. They shipped a new saw upon reciept of my return request. Perhaps they got a bad lot. As they had replaced this item once, I was not about to dump it back on them. I called DeWalt. They seem to hire the cheapest kid they can find. He was not totally unknowledgeable, and was polite and sympathetic. All he could offer was to suggest that I contact the warranty center. When I looked them up on the net I found an old friend that was nearby and factory certified. He got the job & will do it under warranty at no cost to me. But I'll be waiting a couple weeks to get it back. He agreed that there was no excuse for the misalignment. The saw has weaknesses, as described in other reviews. But, it is stable in the cut, has good power, is easy to guide and a wonderful convienence. I used it for a few days before taking it to the shop. If you never nail down a cutting guide to deal with a problem spot or clamp one to sheet goods, then, you will not notice the misalignment. I've not lost a blade to pull out on this {only a few days of use} nor on my corded version of the same saw. The locking system is a little clumsy. The convience of tool free blade change is worth the trouble caused by the lack of clearance when you pull up the "crank". The big problem is that it is hard to get a good grip on the "crank" to be able to pull up hard enough to get the blade well locked in. The angle adjustment on the shoe could be improved with a bit of thought. This saw is basically a winner. DeWalt just got sloppy at the finish. This is intended as a wake up call to them. If you have such problems I hope you will write a letter of complaint to help refocus their attention on quality, which does include attention to detail.

2-0 out of 5 stars Use Carefully
The sole plate of this unit has a poor locking mechanism. The lever releases randomly and the angle of cut can change in the middle of the job.The thicker the wood, the more the damage to the item you are working on.A Rube Goldberg modification can be applied to stabilize the locking mechanism but it negates its use to cut wanted angles. If you are thinking of DeWalt I suggest you look for some other brand of Jig Saw. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Compatibility with DW703
The good news is that these stops fit onto the DW703 very nicely. The bad news is that when set fully out, there is only 3 2/3 inches between the backstop and the crown stop. Not much room at all to work with, so I hope your crowns are small.

1-0 out of 5 stars If I could design and sell a product like this I'd be rich
Yes, they should be a bit longer to allow six inch crown. They should also have a quick release mechanism.but these are minor complaints.
Look closely at the picture.I can't understand how they can charge this price for an item that obviously can be made for 1/10 the price (look at the picture again).I still bought them because you really must have them if you do any anount of crown. The real disapointment is that for that much money you'd think they would at least be square.Mine are not (out of the box). When dewalt sat down and designed this thing there were only two basic requirements - it must attach to the side of the saw with a slot that allows adjustment and then turn square so as to be parrallel to the fence. It is totally unbelievable that they could fail at this.No name tools manufactured on a dirt floor in the south pacific would likely be more succesful in producing this product.
On the flip side I still use this product all the time and it is in fact very helpfull when working with crown.

4-0 out of 5 stars good idea

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Useful, Needs Some Care In Use
I got this when I began working on a rental house owned by my mother. This was very useful because it let me work at night when I'd otherwise have to shut down. The use of common batteries with the other Dewalt 18V tools is what makes it so useful.

I use it as an area light, bouncing off light-colored walls to light up an entire room (and it is a little dim for this).I still carry a flashlight as a backup and I'd recommend the same to anyone using it at night, since you may knock it over, plywood may fall on it, et cetera. It can be used for task lighting.I suspect that the other Dewalt 18V flashlight might be better for that, though.

The design of the light, with the flexible neck, lets you set it up in all kinds of positions. The advice given in another review - set it on its side - should be taken to heart, as I think that's the most reliable way to use it.Setting the light on the battery base and extending the neck can make it unstable.

But this is a very useful light which can be used in many, many ways.I think that, because it's so useful, one is tempted to use it just a little bit beyond its ability to balance itself. With that caveat, highly recommended.

3-0 out of 5 stars Has a few problems
I've used this light for years because it came with the kit.

Ok, one day I really needed it and I set it down and the thing fell over and the bulb broke.I went and put another one in.Of course, since I'm a klutz, I broke the second one and had to finish working in the attic with a bic lighter.

One day I turned it on and the light was so bright it was so cool, then it burnt out quicky. What happened? I had put a 14 volt bulb in the thing.Hey, it worked cool for a few minutes.

Anyway, seriously, the flexible part needs design work, the light does not stand on its own well and often falls over. The tool itself is indespensable, but if it had a longer neck that was more rigid and a base that was more stable it would work better.

4-0 out of 5 stars DW919 18-Volt Flexible Floodlight
I just purchased another one of these flashlights a few weeks ago and already have several others I've owned for years that are kept both in the truck and at the shop. They have taken quite a beating but all still function well. I use them on the job routinely along with many other Dewalt 18V tools so I could easily justify the purchase of an 18V battery for each flashlight and like the idea of not having to pull one out of another tool to make them operable.
The flexible 18V flashlight is without a doubt one of the best cordless accessory ideas to ever come around for tradespersons and service techs. Anyone who's been around long enough probably remembers the expense having to purchase cases of disposable 6V alkaline lantern batteries that would only last for a few hours or the cheap and dangerous 120V drop lights with the bulbs that frequently blew out if you bumped the light to hard, even when using rough service bulbs. My favorite was when a hot bulb would shatter from thermal shock after accidentally making contact with a few drops of water leaving the energized electrodes of the broken bulb exposed. If you were lucky you'd to be using a GFCI protected receptacle. It's still amazing that more people weren't killed.
I have dragged, dropped and banged the DW919 flashlight mercilessly over the years and can't recall ever blowing a single bulb because of it.
It produces a bright white spot beam and a fully charged battery can sometimes last for several hours of continuous use. It can easily last all day if you're just using it for a few minutes at a time and make the effort to shut it off when not needed. Replacement bulbs come in two-packs and are not really that expensive considering that you can average many months of use from a single bulb. The impact resistant plastic construction makes this flashlight very rugged as well as safe for working around electrical equipment. The lens is made of lexan, the threaded cap is sealed with a gasket making the head and flexible rubber covered shaft dust tight and safe for water splash. It is much better and more durable than the DeWalt pivot head model which I also had used previously. The flexible shaft can be wrapped around a pipe or cable or even worn around your neck. I find that if you need to set the light on the floor, it's best to lay the battery on it's side then coil the shaft around like a snake and point the head where you want it because the battery's weight tends makes the light fall over if you don't.
The DW919 flashlight is now an indispensable part of my workday and I highly recommend it as an accessory to any tradesperson who is already using Dewalt 18v tools. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great saw for the price.
I ordered this saw to do some remodeling work in my condo. This saw ate through the 2-1/4 inch plaster/masonary walls like butter. I took out two medium sized walls in about 8 hours time, including cleanup.

The saw has no balancer in it, so it does get a bit uncomfortable to use after a certain time frame. However, to get the balancer feature, you really have to step up the price.

Changing blades is relatively easy with the keyless quick change.Just watch out for the hot blades!

Bottom line, I would have no problem recommending this tool to anyone in need of a Sawzall. I plan to use it in several more wall demolition projects. It is perfect for occasional use. Contractor types may wish to buy a higher priced model.

3-0 out of 5 stars 5 star value, 2 star tool.
So really that's 3 and a half stars but I'm giving more weight to the tool than the price.I don't own one of these, my deck building partner does.We build a few decks every summer as side jobs for tool money. We also are both in the middle of remodels, so we've put this tool through the paces.I've used this tool for literally hours over the last few years he's had it.It works, it costs a Franklin instead of almost 2.If you are using it occasionally it will do the job (thinking average homeowner here.)If you use it frequently or if you are a bit of a tool snob (like me) buy a milwaukee.(see my review there)The vibration on this tool is pretty severe in comparison.I don't think the ergonomics are near as good, and for cutting wood... you can't beat orbital action.

To sum up, there is nothing "wrong" with this tool, and it's certainly faster than a handsaw. All things considered you are way further ahead buying this than a no-name knock-off for whatever $$.It's just not what I would consider a professional quality tool.I left my sawzall at home today for 2 deck demolitions, had to use this one, and won't make that mistake again. It did the job, it's just not a joy using it like mine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent tool
I've had this sander for years and put it through more abuse than I'd like to admit and it is still going strong. It has been dropped, used for several hours non stop, and worked nearly to death. It seems to take abuse and ask for more. The brushes probably need to be replaced and the bearings might be on their last legs but the machine still works without a problem. The dust bag now falls off and the cord is showing signs of cracking, but this is hardly a complaint as years of hard use will cause this in any tool. DeWalt is an excellent brand and this sander is no exception. I can only say good things about this tool and recommend it highly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice sanding - no dust collection
I got this free with the 10" Miter saw.Agree with other reviewers that if you are only getting one sander get the orbital, but this is a very nice finishing sander.I had a Makita - but my sister borrowed and lost it somehow. This Dewalt sands as well as the Makita. It also collects dust about as well as the Makita - the catch being the Makita didn't even have a dust bag.I have had no problem with it falling off - it has a little catch that holds it securely, but there does not seem to be any air flow into the bag at all.(And yes - I do use the provided plate to punch holes in the paper!)I suspect something internal is out of place - but haven't bothered to call Dewalt yet.Hey - 10 years ago hardly any of these guys even had dust collection.

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your $$$$
Poor design. The dust bag is a joke, as it seems to be with all of DeWalt's tools. The sand paper plate for stick on paper is rediculous.Save your $$$$ and your time and purchase an orbital sander. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great accessory, absolutely necessary!
This clamp is something you really need with the DeWalt saw, as others have said.It keeps your fingers away from the blade while you're making a cut, and is really handy on long or short workpieces.I don't understand the 'pricey' comments some have left. . . compared to what?Where else are you going to get this, but from DeWalt? It's a custom accessory, designed specifically for the DeWalt saw, and it's not a high production run item, so naturally it's going to be 'pricey'!

5-0 out of 5 stars expensive but essential
I bought two of them for my saw, right and left.I use them all the time. For precise and safe cuts, you need to have at least one of these to secure the workpiece against the fence. You can use your hands and still get it right (enough) 90% of the time, and safely 99% of the time, but why take chances with expensive wood and a limited number of fingers??These clamps are expensive but very well built and the quick release really works the way it's supposed to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Accessory
This is a nice accessory to have, if you already own a DeWalt battery pack and the charger.Basically, that would limit my recommendation of this product to those who already own a cordless 14.4 volt DeWalt tool. While the flashlight itself is relatively inexpensive at about $25, the battery pack and the charger are not.The battery pack cost more than $50 apiece.Add the cost of the charger and you get the idea that this is not a flashlight system that you buy on its own. But, if you already own the battery packs and the charger, then spending an additional $25 will get you a very powerful and durable flashlight.

I bought this flashlight because I already own the 14.4 volt XRP drill. The flashlight and drill are sharing the two batteries that came with the drill.

This is a very nice, wide-beam flashlight. The craftsmanship is what you would expect from DeWalt. The light is made of quality materials. And, due to the design and the bottom-heaviness of the battery pack, this flashlight can "stand" on its own.Perfect for those times when you don't have someone to hold the light for you. And, because it throws a wide beam, this unit can illuminate quite a lot of area.I highly recommend this high quality light to those who already own a DeWalt tool that uses the 14.4 volt battery pack.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Durable
I have had two of these flashlights since they first came out (in 1993 or 1994 I think) and we use them constantly! Each light is used an average of 4 times per night to "take the dogs out" in addition to other incidentals.

I love the fact that I can set the flashlight down, the weight of battery holding it in place, and can use the swivel head to direct the light. I have NEVER had a problem with the swivel heads.

These things are very durable. They have been in the dust, dropped from ladders onto semi-hard surfaces a few times, out in the snow and rain, stepped on and knocked over a ton of times - in plain English, just used and abused, but they still keep working!

Battery life on these flashlights is about 3 hours of continuous use and I have changed the bulbs only about 3 times on each light. The light is bright enough to light up the dogs pretty well about 60 to 75 feet away - depending on the battery charge state. When we lose power I set up a couple of the lights in the house and point them at the ceiling to light up the rooms. MUCH safer than candles...

It may sound kind of expensive at a total cost of $94 ($25 per light + ~$60 for a battery + $3 each for the bulbs) but I figure about 1 hour use per day, per light for 10 years (and still counting) results in a cost of just 2.6 cents per hour!!! (not including the electricity cost for the charger). If you already own a Dewalt rechargeable tool, the cost of ownership drops to less than a penny per hour based on my experience. How can you beat that investment???

My only small nit with these lights is the switch can sometimes be hard to turn on. I found that a dab of Di-Electric Grease every couple years on the switch easily fixes that.

If these lights ever die, I would ABSOLUTELY replace them with the same model. Short of a major disaster, I would say these things have at least another 10 years left in them!

5-0 out of 5 stars best flashlight
Ive been an electrician for almost 20 years and this is with outa doubt the best flashlight ive ever used. Only problem is w/me i have lost more than several of these puppies over the years, i tend to leave them in attics. Its not cheap, roughly [money] for the flashlite and [more money] for a battery. 4-0 out of 5 stars Dewalt cordless light-flexable neck
I sure do like this light. Light is bright, and lasts a pretty good long time. The only thing that I didn't like about it is that if you set it down on the battery, and raise the lamp up and point it down, it becomes unbalanced. but...that doesn't hinder my using it...love the light.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Handy Work Light
I have used this flashlight for about one year and it has become alost the only flashlight I use.In Cabinets it illuminates the entire space, no fumbling to re-aim or balance or juggle. In crawl spaces you can set it up and work in a wide area without having to fool with the light, like a portable flood light. This and my LED headlight are all I need anymore.Great tool, and no worries about having fresh batteries!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast and powerful
This is a surprisingly fast and powerful drill for 12v.I had a Makita 12v cordless for over 5 years that only died because it was dropped.

I was going to switch to a higher voltage but when I tried this one out I thought the size and weight was just right.

The clutch issue that others are mentioning is not a problem.Gears 1, 2, and 3 are low speed/high torque through high speed/low torque. The 24 position clutch limits the motor torque, not the resultant output.

I think this works well, but it is not what you may be used to.The clutch does seem to break-in a little after a few uses.

This is a high quality drill. It is not like one of your B&D, Skil, or Harbor Freight models. This is an example of you get what you pay for.

Drill/drivers are one of those tools that I use a lot.I think that quality is important, and I can't seebuying one of those low grade units. This has more torque and speed than your typical low grade.

Five stars definately.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great torque and speed for any job
I bought this drill for projects around the house, and it has risen to every challenge. Lots of torque for driving screws into oak. Plenty of speed when used as a grinding wheel. The battery lasts very long.

I haven't had any of the listed problems with the clutch either.

I think it's a great value that will last

3-0 out of 5 stars update to my previous review
After using the DW980 for almost two weeks, I've formed a pretty good impression about it:
1. In my previous review (9/07/02), I stated that the clutch worked fine in the lowest gear (gear # 1). Well, the truth is that it only works in torgue settings 1-5. The worst thing is Dewalt won't admit the problem, I was told it was normal.
2. Occasionally, the gears don't shift (it got stuck in the middle). I have to run the motor a bit to complete the shifting.
3. When stopping in gears #2 & 3, it makes rattling sound.
4. The high speed is really helpful, it finishes the jobs much cleaner. ... Read more

Overall the general purpose bit is pretty good. For the price you can stock-up on them without breaking the bank.

Be careful if cutting through dense woods. The bit heats up fast and can dull prematurely as a result. Editorial Review

DeWalt's 5-inch random-orbit sander is a great tool for professional woodworkers and painters, as well as homeowners looking for a reliable sander for do-it-yourself projects. It has a 2 amp motor that provides up to 12,000 orbits per minute, with a 3/32 orbit diameter. Its controlled finishing system maintains consistent control over the pad speed, minimizing gouging at startup, and the variable-speed motor ramps smoothly between speed levels when adjusted on the fly. While it has less vibration than many sanders we've tried--thanks in part to DeWalt's dual-plane counterbalanced fan--we found that gripping the tool from the side rather than from the top seemed to be easier on the hands. The top grip could get tiresome in extended-use situations. We liked the dust canister configuration on this tool, which uses a simple and effective twist-lock mechanism to help prevent air pressure from popping the canister off the tool. The sealed switch is also a good idea that will help prevent dust contamination problems. The kit comes with the sander, a dust collector, a vacuum attachment, and the case. --Brian Trinen ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Weak dust collector assembly
I've had the sander for just over a year and it has performed very well, until now. The dust collector assembly keeps coming off, every 30 seconds! The design of how the dust colletor port is attached is very weak, in my opinion. My work-around is to wedge a small piece of anti-skid matting in the port. A small sheet metal screw driven through the dust collector assembly and the port may also improve this poor design.

The $%^& collector keeps shooting off while working.I'm taking it back.

Editorial Review

Heavy-duty work requires a heavy-duty tool. The 14.4-volt, 1/2-inch DeWalt DW055K-2 cordless impact wrench delivers on every front. While deceptively slight in build (the unit measures only 6-1/2 inches in length and weighs just 4.1 pounds), the DeWalt is long on performance, delivering an impressive 1,550 in./lbs. of maximum torque with speeds ranging from 0-2,400 rpm and 0-3,000 bpm. Consequently, it can get into places larger units simply cannot reach, delivering powerful results without the added cumber of an extension cord or oversized frame. Of course, size isn't everything. The DeWalt is also built tough throughout, with an all-metal transmission, a durable magnesium gear case and a 1/2-inch hog ring anvil that accepts impact sockets with ease. A textured, anti-slip comfort grip provides ultimate comfort and stability. A specially designed impacting mechanism reduces kickback -- and fatigue. And a variable-speed trigger switch with electric brake means better overall control.--Carl Thress ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Only rating it against my other screw guns
I've used the DeWalt 18 volt driver/hammer drill for years, and I really have thought it was a good product.I once dropped my drill from a second story and after it bounced a few times it still worked, so I've been convinced that the DeWalt product was a decent brand.

I recently got this 14.4 impact and have loved using it. It's lighter than the 18 volt I'm used to and easy to handle. It drives long screws no problem. There are no dials to turn, no speeds to set and the battery seems to last a long time.I've used it for setting electrical finish, which takes a light touch, to drilling holes in stucco with a masonary bit (doing what I normally would have used the "hammer drill" function for).

I do know carpenters that swear by the Makita impact driver, so I can't compare brand to brand, but if you've always used a normal driver drill and haven't yet tried out the impact driver, you're in for a treat. It really does a much better job.

And to think, I used a Yankee back in the day, and I'm not that old,,,,,well ok, I'm pushing forty, but still, I cut my teeth with a Yankee screwdriver,,,,,how far things have come.

2-0 out of 5 stars Consider other brand
I would only recommend this tool to someone who uses it for home.I am a contractor whom owns numerous Dewalt cordless tools and am disappointed in most. I own the 14v and the 12v impacts, and in a matter of 6 months of daily use they have both burned up arbors. The batteries will not keep a charge close to origional. B&D service centers have repaired both under warrenty, but they will not admit to any design flaw. "Heavy Duty", I don't think so.

2-0 out of 5 stars It's junk...
I love my Dewalt 746 table saw, but am not happy with either insert that Dewalt makes. They are terrible to try and level and even when you do get em level, they rattle. I've gone thru the whole gambit, made my own out of plywood, tried the Leecraft, they are ok. Finally found the Betterly Tru-Cut insert system and that is the way to go. Its a solid machined piece of high quality aluminum, made for this saw. That means you can still use your factory blade guard and splitter. It has a removable phenolic center, so you can make zero clearance inserts for about any size blade or dado. It's easy to level and stays level. You don't have to relevel when you change inserts, and the inserts are pretty inexpensive. Can't recommend the Dewalt inserts at all....toss em, get a Tru Cut.

The Dewalt Dado Plate does its job and thats all. I rated this product as 4 stars. I will most probably be using a zero-clearence insert instead.

3-0 out of 5 stars For that price, you may expect more.
The plate is made of cast aluminum and painted on the face side. The finish is somewhat coarser than that of the regular plate comes with the saw. Don't know why. The set screws are useful to set the plate level with the tabletop and a lock down piece secure the plate in place. But they are torx screws, so you better keep the torx wrench handy or have a torx bit around like I do. I think you can do better with those after market blank insert and cut youself one zero clearance plate that gives you a more smoother ride. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great within its limits.
My wife bought me this for Christmas last year.(You gotta love tools for Christmas.)The grinder is great for everything I have used it for.Cutting steel, grinding welds, grinding some concrete and masonry. The only thing that it doesn't work for is the lack of a guard that is designed to work with diamond wheels.I needed to cut some concrete and I needed to use a diamond wheel to do it, come to find out you've got to drop a good chunck of change for a different guard.Well, I figured out another way to get done what I needed, didn't buy the new guard and still like the grinder. It should have come with a guard that would work for whatever you are going to use it for. That said, if you're not going to ever use diamond wheels, this grinder works well and I have no reservations recommending it.

3-0 out of 5 stars want to trade it for a coffee grinder?
I bought this tool with the sole intention of cutting concrete for repair work around the yard. The fact that the guard supplied isn't rated for the 4 1/2" diamond wheel was a shame, I should have looked at the price of the "additional accessories" before I bought this thing, it turns a reasonable purchase into one I would reconsider. So, casting safety asside, I used the standard guard. In all, it's a fair grinder. I cut through 3" slab no problem, ground the edges on a set of brick pillars. The switch then started to get 'sticky' from all the dust...I should have bought the Bosch.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not that heavy duty
DeWalt makes good tools for the homeowner. I purchased this grinder because it looked and handled well. I wanted to use the grinder with a cut off wheel but found it can not without an adapter. DeWalt needs to put this information on the box. I had to return the grinder for this reason. This heavy duty grinder only does light duty tasks. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fence Extension
The 52" fence extension and table add considerable versatility to theDW744.The only problem is some difficulty in leveling and securing thetable when using the mobil base.Even though the instructions tell you tolower the adjustable feet on the right table legs (to compensate for theadded height of the mobil base), you'll probably find that the topbolts/lock nuts at both far right ends of the table will not fit in theslots provided. The solution of course is to get out the drill and add ahole for the bolt, but DW should have thought this out a little betterbefore going into production. ...
