Editorial Review

This fixed-base router from DeWalt has all the design features to make it a popular choice with woodworkers and professional carpenters. The tool's powerhouse is a smooth-running, 11 amp, 1-3/4-horsepower motor that offers more than enough power to make precise, clean cuts in tough hardwoods without bogging down. A micro-fine adjustment ring is used to adjust the depth of cut in 1/64-inch increments, so the motor itself doesn't need to be turned, and as a consequence, the position of the switch and cord doesn't change every time your cut-depth does. This same motor can be used with DeWalt's DW6182 plunge base or their DW6183 D-handle base, and DeWalt has thoughtfully made motor removal and base changing a quick and easy, tool-free operation. Both the motor housing and the base are made of precision-machined aluminum for durability, and the motor housing has nickel plating to ensure smooth depth adjustments. As finishing touches, the toggle switch is sealed against dust penetration, and the cord is fully detachable for use with other DeWalt bases and to protect it in storage. DeWalt's engineers and designers clearly spent a lot of time making sure this router package addressed every need a woodworker could have, and the result is a tool that stands with the best in its price range. --Brian Trinen ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Evolution
I have owned 4 different DeWalt routers which I enjoyed despite limitations that I found in all of them (weight, power, ease of use, etc.)I still, however considered the previous DeWalt routers to be superior to both Porter Cable and Bosch routers.

When DeWalt came out with their new 1 3/4 and 2 1/4 hp routers with multiple bases to compete with PC,I had to try them.

I decided on the 1 3/4 hp, as I have their 2 hp,and have never liked the weight of the unit.It always felt cumbersome doing light work.Upon receiveing this little router,I mounted the fixed base underneath one of my router tables, and kept the plunge base out for travelling work. Here are my impressions:

1.)This has plenty of smooth power to run virtually anything you fire its way.I was able to smoothly run a cabinet panelling bit through MDF (I would not dare to do so through hardwood that is what the 3hp router is for).On sit I ran 3/4" roundovers, 3/4" straight fluted bits, etc. without incident. This router has the power to do almost anything you need on site, and can run most bits you need in a router table.

2.)The changing of the motor from base to base takes a couple of times to get used to,but is smarter than the current Porter Cable model.Changing router bits requires two wrenches, however, the detachable cord and flat base allow it to rest in a flat and stable position.

3.)They made the base compatbile with Porter Cable bases so most of the base attachments you can buy for PC also work with the DeWalt.

Bottom line is I got rid of all other routers I owned except for the DeWalt 3hp (for panelling),and have two fixed bases mounted under Rockler router tables, one plunge and one fixed base for on site work, and a total of 5 motors to put wherever I need them.It has truly been a universal fit for all of my routing needs! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars A blade for burning
My original review was positive for this blade, but with a little more experience I have to take it all back.

I have now used this blade on 1/8, 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 inch birch plywood, as well as on 1/2 and 3/4 inch MDF.The verdict: this blade cuts great for a few seconds. Then the glues in the sheets burn. The sheet starts to smoke and the blade teeth get encrusted with burnt glue, causing the burning to get even worse. The thicker the sheet goods, the worse the problem.I was able to cut 3/8" plywood for a little while, but I only got through about 12 inches of 3/4" MDF before the smoke started.Believe it or not, I had better luck in MDF with a cheap framing blade! My stock was well supported and the depth of cut was fine.

The blade cleaned up ok with oven cleaner, but even with a freshly cleaned blade I was unable to get a good cut.Thin kerf blades like this are risky in thicker stock, I think.

This blade is really inexpensive and there's a reason.I've ordered a much pricier Freud blade and expect to have better luck.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: I received my Freud TKR303 and it is outstanding.I strongly recommend you spend the extra money to get that blade if you're cutting sheet goods.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST BLADE I EVER USED
I COULD NEVER FIND A GOOD BLADE FOR RIPPING PLYWOOD. EVERY ONE I TRIED ALWAYS "SPLINTERED" THE EDGES WHICH IS PRRETY MADDENING WHEN YOUR CUTTING [costly]PLYWOOD. I READ THE REVIEWS HERE AND BOUGHT ONE. IT'S BEEN PERFECT EVERY TIME. NO SPLINTERS AND THE CUT IS EXTREMELY SMOOTH!IT ALSO WORKED WELL IN CUTTING HDMF PLASTIC.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great General Purpose Plywood Blade
This is a great saw blade for thin OSB and plywood. If you put in in your saw with the teeth backwards, you can get a perfect cut on vinyl siding. This blade is best suited for rough work and dirty lumber that would wear out a carbide blade.Just don't use it where you need a really smooth cut. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Unlocks the Full Potential Of Your Dewalt Tools
I'm remodelling in the evenings and weekends at a site with no power.More than once I've had to stop early because I was about to drain my Dewalt batteries completely.Having this buys me about another hour each week in productive time. You still have to plan your usage when using a high-drain item like a saw, but the added flexibility is still worth it.The only downside is that, to be safe, you need to run your vehicle for a few minutes to ensure that the charger doesn't drain your truck battery.Dewalt advises no more than two charges between starts. That will do for most of my evening efforts anyway, but there are some reading this who will have to be careful. In any event, this gives me much more flexibility when working at an inconvenient site - highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars dewalt 12v vehicle charger
I used the 18v tools to build an entire remote cabin where there was no regular electricity. The vehicle charger works great connected to a 12 volt solar power system.

4-0 out of 5 stars too expensive!
We are a contracting company and have tried to stick to one brand of rechargeable tool at the same voltage so that the batteries are interchangable. This gets four stars because they do not last under heavy use conditions...the best we have managed is 11 months. We are carefull to fully discharge and fully recharge but they start to not a charge as long then will not charge at all.The other reason for the four stars is that they are way too expensive. It would not be so bad if it lasted for 24-30 months. We have 5 tools, each with 2 batteries and are replacing them about once a year.
Bring down the price and it would be a 5 star!

5-0 out of 5 stars 6 years and still going
I purchased my DeWalt 14.4 volt half inch hammer/drill in 1996 at Lowe's in Lake Charles, LA and am still using the original two batteries which were included in the purchase price. While the batteries are 6 years old, they still work for me but don't have the run life they had when new (that is to be expected!).I keep one battery in the drill and the other in the charger which is plugged in all the time.I have not kept a record of the number of recharges but I estimate it has been two to three times a month.I have always run the battery pack down fully before recharging. One note, don't store them in the cold because they seem to not hold the charge as long as a battery stored in a warm place.I use the drill for home repair, remodeling, and hobby projects.I will order two more sometime in the future.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Extended Runtime Battery over Firestorm
I am a General Contractor and we use these batteries primarily for 14.4 and 12 volt drills (you can break off the tabs and they work fine in the DeWalt 12 volt drills -- have done it for 5 years with no adverse affects on the drill). We also use the batteries for a 5" cutoff saw.

I highly recommend these batteries; however, you have to watch how and when you charge them. One reviewer rated them low; however, admitted that he "always topped them off."To get the longest life, you have to run them down or their memory will tell them to only hold a small charge at a time.I have had two for over four years. They still work, but must be recharged more often. With the fast chargers, they will charge in an hour. With two chargers on-site, two drills, and four batteries, we never wait for a recharge. I tried Firestorm based on sales rep recommendation at Home Depot (have the same connections to DeWalt tools). They charged a few times and will not hold a charge if left in storage for a week or two.A waste of money on the Firestorm even though they were half the price. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome.
Too bad Home Depot doesn't sell DeWalt bits anymore. What a stupid mistake.I'm sick of wasting my time with those junk Vermont American and other cheap bits that the local hardware stores sell.Maybe they get higher margins.I now buy online.I got this set from DeWalt. In comparison, the last VA set I got at Home Depot, the 3/8 bit completely broke apart drilling one measley hole into stucco!I have another old bit that has drilled 100s of holes into the same stucco with no significant wear. They don't make them like they used to with the exception of the DeWalt ones here.I've used these bits in concrete and they work GREAT.They have some weird-angled point that really works.Costs 2X, but these are well worth it.Comes with a, not great, but usable pouch. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This is not an option, it is a necessity!
At the time I bought my DW746 table saw Amazon was offering this base as an added bonus (for the same price). If I had to order this thing separately, I probably would have tried to make something less expensive work for me.I am so glad that I have this base instead!

What I like about this product:

1.This thing is STOUT.The construction of this base is very heavy duty.Although my DW746 is a heavy beast, I am sure the base would handle much more weight than I am throwing on it with this saw.

2.The lift pedal mechanism works very smoothly.Another reviewer describes this base as having a tendency to 'drop' the saw when you are lowering the foot pedal.I noticed the same thing on the demo model I looked at in a Woodcraft store.Mine however does NOT seem to do this yet.I don't know if DeWalt tweaked it to fix the problem or I just got lucky...

3.I appreciate the fact that this base allows you to bolt the legs of the saw right to it - giving the saw cabinet even more stiffness and strength.

4.Once you have depressed the foot pedal, this thing smoothly and easily rolls the saw wherever you want it.Tight turns and small debris on the floor do not seem to pose a problem for this base.

What I don't like:

1.The price.Actually mine was included in a package deal, so I have no complaints. However, if I had to go buy the thing I would be chafing at the price.

A PIECE OF ADVICE:

If you buy this at the same time as you buy the DW746 saw remember this. The saw is shipped upside down in the crate.Assemble the base and attach it to the saw legs BEFORE you turn the saw right side up.Otherwise it is a real bear for two people to set the saw on the base while trying to line-up the bolts that attach legs to base...

Overall observations:

This is a very high quality product that you really will need and use all of the time if you buy it.I cannot say that you will be happy with the price tag, but once you make the investment you will never regret owning this accessory!

5-0 out of 5 stars an excellent base for dewalt saw owners
HAT'S OFF TO DEWALT.A FINE BASE FOR MY 760 TABLE SAW. ORDERED FROM AMAZON, IT CAME IN FINE COND. VERY WELL PAKAGED FROM DEWALT. A GREAT THOUGHT OUT DESIGN. FAR BETTER THAN SOME OF MY HTC BASES, & A MUST FOR PORTABILITY. THE THREE WHEEL DESIGN MAKES TURNING THISSAW A BREEZE IN ANY DIRECTION.A MUST FOR SMALL SHOP'S LIKE OUR'S. ANOTHER NICE FEATURE IS THIS BASE BOLT'S TO THE SAW MAKING IT EVEN MORE STABLE.

5-0 out of 5 stars You'd think I would learn....
The Dewalt mobile base was out of stock, everywhere, when I bought my DW746. In my small basement shop I need all the large machines to be mobile, so even though I know better I bought a "universal base" and the fight was on. After a couple of months of trying to make it work, I decided that enough was enough and ordered the Dewalt base. Had to wait 2 weeks but it finally arrived. Assembly was so easy I was sure I had missed something, spent another 20 minutes double checking everything. Got my neighbor to help me lift the saw off the old base and on to the new one. The saw is now easy, I do mean easy, to manuever and is solid as a rock once its set down in its operating position. No chance of it coming off the base as it is solidly bolted down. In the down position it has a lower profile and is LEVEL. With the universal base if you didnt apply pressure to the mobile base when moving the saw, there was a good chance the saw would slip off one of the rails. With the Dewalt base this can't happen, takes one hand on the saw to move it around and place it just where ya need it. This is a great addition to my saw and I only regret waiting so long to get it. ... Read more

What a beauty! One of the lightest framing nailersavailable, this DeWalt weighs in at just 7-1/2 pounds but packs awallop, sending nails into even the hardest woods with minimalrecoil. Dry fire lockout prevents this workhorse from firingempty, and should it jam up, you'll be working again in no timethanks to DeWalt's well-engineered quick-release jam-clearingmechanism. You can change the depth of the drive in a jiffy, too,and without tools. (You have to love that!) As with DeWalt'sother nailers, you receive both bump and sequential actiontriggers with your purchase. The magazine is angled at 31degrees, and combined with its 12-3/4-inch height, you cantoenail in the tightest spots. A reversible rafter/belt loop is anice touch, and DeWalt also tosses in a bottle of oil and somevery cool-looking safety glasses. With this nailer at yourdisposal you can't go wrong. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars decent gun
When I got this gun I was really pleased. It's light and fairly powerful. But after framing about 20 houses in the last year or so it just couldn't hold up. The power dropped dramatically and then the nose and trigger gave up.It probably would do great under a less stressful workload.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good nailer
I read many reviews before buying a new framer and it was between this one and the paslode. My company builds lots of decks and new homes, so this gun gets a workout. It has worked alongside a couple of paslodes now for about 6 months. It is excellently balance and powered. My only complaint is that after working through the winter in severe cold, it needed a full overhaul (under warranty thankfully) for the seals and O-rings while the paslodes kept right at it.Overall, a great gun, just hope it does not need seals every six months.

3-0 out of 5 stars Only does half the job it is meant to do
When I purchased this gun it seemed to be a winner.Light, powerful , great features. It wasn`t untill I loaded the gun with a new box of 8`s to bang out a sheathing job. This gun will not shoot any brand of 8`s strip nails , tried them all.It seems like the spring holding the strip nails has too much force and buches them together , jamming the gun after three shots. It does shoot 10`s excellent with ease , but for [money], it does half the job of any other nail gun.Try a friends before you buy one.... ... Editorial Review

Keyless chucks can sometimes be a mixed blessing. On the one hand, bit changes are quicker and more convenient, but bit slippage can also be an issue at times. That's not the case with the DeWalt heavy-duty 3/8-inch VSR drill kit with keyless chuck. DeWalt has equipped this tool with a two-sleeve ratcheting chuck that locks shut and holds bits firmly in place. The drill weighs just 3.5 pounds but can power its way through metal, wood and masonry, with bit capacities of 3/8 inches, one inch and 1/2 inch respectively. A 6 amp motor delivers powerful torque and speeds of 0-2,500 rpm, while an advanced brush system automatically stops the tool when the brushes wear out, preventing serious motor damage. The drill is comfortable to hold and comes with a built-in bubble level that lets you know your holes are straight and true. All in all, a very solid performer.--Carl Thress ... Read more

  • All-ball-bearing construction means longer tool life

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent drill, powerful & well balanced -- but noisy
This is a very nice, well designed drill.I use it mostly for drilling pocket holes with a Kreg jig. It's so much easier to drill pocket holes with this powerful 2500 RPM corded drill, compared to a slow cordless drill. This drill is super powerful, well balanced, and has a very comfortable hand grip. The Jacobs ratcheting chuck works nicely and has a great feel when tightened. The Dewalt case is also very nice with plenty of extra storage space and metal latches. My only complaint, though, is that this drill is very noisy. I wish Dewalt would focus more engineering on lowering noise output.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good drill
First off, this drill is now made in Mexico. I'm suspect of how this will affect the durability and reliability of the drill, so whatever positive things I have to say about this drill has that caveat
Next, this drill is extremely comfortable in hand, especially for those with medium to small hands. The weight and balance is exceptional as compared to the Milwaukee Magnum drill that I compared it to. That drill was really heavy and the bulk of the weight was balanced towards the front of the drill - not comfortable. The Dewalt drill is powerful enough to handle most chores but I wouldn't use it to drill cement.
It's also highly noisy (as compared to Makita drills) so be prepared to be numb in the ears or get earplugs. Overall, for the cheap price, I'd say it's a very useable, solid drill. If it were made in the USA and were quieter, I'd give it 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great drill
This drill works fantastic! The first project I used it on was to drill mounting holes for casters into 8/4 rock maple. This drill handled the task perfectly.I have been using this drill for about 6 months now with no complaints.

1-0 out of 5 stars good torque but otherwise.......
I went out and got this for a deck I was putting up.After owning the DeWalt DW 257 for 24 hours and using it to screw down 5/8 pressure treated deck boards to 2X12 joists the thing wrung itself completely in half.Immagine the look on the clerks face when I returned the gear/ clutch assembly in one hand and the body in the other.Needless to say I got a refund and bought something else. While I love my DeWalt framing nailer and a DeWalt/ Emglo compressor I'm now leary of buying yellow....

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool!
I purchased the DW257 about a month ago and layed the boots to it immediatley. I intalled a new sub-floor on the already existing 3/4 inch floor. I used 3" floor screws to go into the house floor joists. Worked beautifully, the screws zipped right in. The depth adjuster worked great.

I have alot of drywalling to do as well. I have been using it for the drywall that I am now doing (waited to write this review untill I used it on drywall). Again, the screws zip right in, the depth adjustedment makes this tool dummy proof.

I have read a couple of the reviews above. You certainly have to learn how to hold and balance the tool in your hand for clean fastening (like any other tool). Once you do that... this tool is it!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Dewalt DW257
I originally purchased the latest Type 3 version of the Dewalt DW257 VSR deck/drywall screwdriver primarily to fasten 1/4" and 1/2" concrete backerboard underlayment to plywood subflooring for tile work. It drives 1-1/4" and 1-5/8" backerboard screws flush to the surface quickly and easily with almost no effort. The DW257 is very well balanced and light weight, has a comfortable pistol grip and trigger position that make it easy to work with all day long. I like the large variable speed reversing trigger switch and the trigger lock location because it makes it virtually impossible to unintentionally lock the trigger in the on position while using the tool. The 6.2 amp motor is smooth and powerful and because it turns at only 2500 RPM's, it is very quite. I have used the DW257 to easily drive 3-1/2" and 4" deck screws flush to the surface of 2X PT lumber and yet, it can also be adjusted to flush set screws in 1/2" drywall and greenboard with no paper tear through. This makes for a very versatile tool that can handle a wide range of fastening tasks that a 4000 RPM drywall only screwdriver can't. When considering it's modest cost, the DW257 offers better value and performance than many of it competitors more expensive models.
The depth sensitive control is easy to adjust and once set, stays put. The metal tipped adjustment collar locks securely to the clutch housing and has never accidentally popped off while using the tool. The clutch operates smoothly and works the way it should.
Overall, I would recommend the DW257 to individuals who needs a powerful, well balanced combination deck/drywall screwdriver that is easy on the wrist and comfortable enough to work with all day. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This fixed-base D-handle router from DeWalt has all the design features to make it a popular choice with woodworkers and professional carpenters for freehand routing. The tool's powerhouse is a smooth-running, 12 amp, 2-1/4-horsepower variable-speed motor with soft start and a spindle lock. It offers more than enough power to make precise, clean cuts in tough hardwood materials without bogging down. A micro-fine adjustment ring is used to dial in the height setting at 1/64-inch increments, so the motor itself doesn't need to be turned, and as a consequence, the position of the switch and cord doesn't change every time your cut-depth does. This same motor can be used with DeWalt's DW6182 plunge base or their DW6184 two-handle fixed base, and DeWalt has thoughtfully made motor removal and base changing a quick and easy, tool-free operation. As a finishing touch, the toggle switch is sealed against dust penetration, and the cord is fully detachable for use with other DeWalt bases and to protect it in storage. DeWalt's engineers and designers clearly spent a lot of time making sure this router package addressed every need a woodworker could have, and the result is a tool that stands with the best in its price range. --Brian Trinen ... 4-0 out of 5 stars DeWalt DW618D D-Handle Router
I'm a home woodworker and wanted to by a new D-handle router with the latest features. When DeWalt's new line of routers came out, I sprung for the 2-1/4 variable speed model.I'm not a router expert, but loved it from the get-go.It's very comfortable and managable, easy to hold and route with one hand. The detachable cords are a great feature.I just love the variable speed, makes me feel like a pro using this router! Now, I'm also a mechanical engineer and I can be fairly critical with a tool purchase. This DeWalt router does come with a case. And it should, it's a beautiful tool, and I like to keep it that way.The collet lock button is in the most awkward location, hard to get at with even my slender fingers.I think it could have been oriented in a more open direction. And there are no clear plastic side shields to snap in place to limit the extent of sawdust that this router can kick out.My old Sears router has this feature.Would these things have prevented me from buying the router had I done a hands-on before buying?Probably not.I still think DeWalt makes great tools. They just don't take it to 100% to give the woodworker all the creature features. But for all I know, maybe some of these issues exist with other brands of routers at the same category/ price.Knowing things like this ahead of time will at least prepare you for some of the unexpected things that you can probably still accept and claim it as a good purchase as I did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great product from Dewalt
I have the Milwaukee D Handled router and I think this is the first serious contender. The Milwaukee is fantastic with all of its well thought out features, but it lacks the power of this 2 1/4Hp beast. I am always interested in Great products despite the brand yet Dewalt makes it hard not to be biased
Dewalt tools have power, nice features and the all important accuracy. This router is no exception. I don't think anybody serious about woodworking will be disappointed. The only downside is the price. It's rather expensive but worth the cost. So try the Milwaukee, I think you'll agree its great, but lacks the power. Milwaukee is...cheaper so it all really comes down to what the intended use is. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for Dewalts...
This holster also fits the 14.4 volt drill/driver I recieved for xmas. It was also a gift, and I suspect a little collusion there. I don't really use the driver on a job site, just in the shop, so really don't have a need for the holster, but I think I will hang it near the charger and store the drill in it, instead of in one of the tool box drawers. Very nicely made and holds the drill very securely. One of the advantages of ballistic nylon over leather is that the nylon doesn't hold moisture so for outdoor use it is superior. Recommend this holster for those of you who do use drill/drivers on the job site.

5-0 out of 5 stars BRAVO!!!
Thank God somebody finally designed a drill holster that actually WORKS!!!

This is the first one I've ever used that: 1. held my drill securely even while I was climbing ladders and scrunched up in all sorts of excruciating positions (my Craftsman holster let the drill slip out as soon as I walked fast!), 2. never once ever caused the drill bit to catch my pant legs, and 3. is not difficult to pull out or put in the drill.

Other bonuses: really thoughtful design, plenty of pockets for driver bits, even a nice hammer loop, nylon material is light yet strong and doesn't stain your pants unlike some allegedly "top grain" leather holsters.

God bless you, Dewalt!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for the homeowner or professional
A well-designed piece of equipment for anyone who ever carries a cordless drill on the job. It keeps the tool securely held and readily available for use. The pouch angles the drill or driver bits away from the wearer's leg, so they don't catch or poke while climbing or moving around. It can be worn either right or left-handed with equal convenience and access to the tool. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars why did i wait ????
i just hookedthis hood up to my planer and shop vac and ran a cedar board through from 3/4to 1/2 inch .the amount of shavings it didnt collect was negligable compared to the deluge of shavings i used to sweep up,the hoodis madeof steeland installseasily withthe screws supplied.as i previously stated,,,why did i wait so long to get this??? i highly reccommend this item.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great - but use screws
The dust hood (which came with the 733 I got from Amazon, so don't buy an another one) works just fine.My regular shop vac has plenty of power.Only problem - I was depending on the tabs to hold it in place, and the weight of the hose caused the tab to break off after about a month.Called Dewalt, and they sent a free replacement, no question asked, and quickly. They recommend using the screws provided to secure the dust hood - which unfortunately blocks the outfeed shelf from folding up compactly ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have for 733
You must connect a 733 to a dust collection system. This hood is extremely efficient and the 733 is the best.I've not bothered to permanently attach the hood, it slips on easily and stays in place during operation.I also have experienced some pitting as others have, but only on soft woods when I try to remove too much material. This is easily handled by making a final pass on each face at 1/32" leaving a mar free finish. ... Editorial Review

DeWalt designed this replacement for their popular DW359 circular saw to be the lightest and most powerful saw available. The result is a professional-quality tool that weighs 9.8 pounds and uses a big 15 amp motor to deliver a maximum of 2,200 watts--just about 3 horsepower. That's a technical way of saying this saw can deliver the power necessary to take on the toughest work on any construction site. The saw's magnesium base plate and guard are part of the key to the low weight. It has a slimmed-down handle, which we found more comfortable than the one on the old model, and a slimmed-down body, which allows for better cut-line visibility. When redesigning the saw, DeWalt also swapped the previous model's 15 amp switch with a 22 amp switch to make burn out at start up less likely. We really like the big 56-degree maximum bevel capacity, and the bevel detents at 22-1/2 and 45 degrees. Both bevel and depth-of-cut adjustments are quick and easy tool-free operations. Designed with professionals' needs in mind this is a powerful full-featured saw that is likely to stand up to a long life of tough work. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Sometimes the hype itself is enough
Black & Decker's blurb states "DeWalt boosted the power with a 15 amp motor that produces 2,200 maximum watts out at 5,800 rpm."
If the saw works on 120 volts and draws 15 amps it uses 1,800 watts, by definition. Claiming that it "produces 2,200 maximum watts..." implies that it CREATES 400 watts FROM NOTHING -- clearly an absurdity. Add the "composite" (plastic) baseplate with the hidden corner lopped off, and it sounds like B&D takes its customers for fools.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best compromise circular
The 369 doesn't do anything exceptionally well, but it does everything well. After much hands-on testing against the Bosch, Milwaukee and Porter, the DeWalt turned out to be the best compromise. It is light. It fits small and medium hands better than most. It has a blade brake. Excellent line of sight to the blade contact point. It has a small footplate with the left rear corner cut out. This makes it very maneuverable in tight spots. Yes, it will not follow a fence as easily as a saw with a long footplate, but a good carpenter will have no problem with this. The only thing I totally dislike is the spindle lock. It is a crude metal part with a finger-unfriendly shape and it requires a bit of pressure, so changing blades is unpleasant.Overall, this is the best circ I could find for my needs (remodeling contractor).

1-0 out of 5 stars unpleasant surprise
Do not buy this saw unless you have actually held one of them in your hands, and realize what you are buying!!! The Amazon website for the DeWalt DW369CSK is deceptive, although I am sure this was unintentional.None of the pictures show the rear left corner of the saw's composite baseplate. The rear left corner of the baseplate DOES NOT EXIST!The baseplate is not a rectangle, as one would expect.Rather it is a rectangle with a large part of one corner "missing". Because of this, the left side of the saw's baseplate is only 8 1/2 inches long. This, together with the placement of the main handle (grip) of the saw, make it more difficult to make a straight cut by running the saw's base along a fence. I called the DeWalt technical assistance hotline and asked why the base had been designed like that. The man was very nice, but he said that he didn't know, but it may have been to save weight. By the way, the DeWalt website has pictures of the saw, but none show it from an angle that lets you see the "missing" portion of the base.
If you do framing, this saw might be OK.However, if you use a circular saw to make furniture, and you use it to do precise cuts of large sheets of plywood by running the saw along a fence, then you want a saw with a base which is long, especially on the side which rides along the fence. I have since learned(by actually looking at the real saws, not pictures) that there are still plenty of these available. The DeWalt DW364 is one of them.It is an older style, which is a bit heavier than the newer 369CSK, and it does not have a detent at 45 degrees. But it is completely adjustable for squareness, and it has plenty of power, and it has a BIG FOOT. The Porter Cable saws have large rectangular bases. Some other saws have a small triangle missing from the left rear corner of the base, but no other saw that I have seen has nearly as big a cutout as the DW369CSK.The Milwaukee 2390-21 is one of them, but even with the cutout, the remaining straight portion is longer than the entire base of the of the DeWalt DW 369CSK, and you can easily keep it square as you move it along a fence. While all of the alternatives to the DW369CSK that I have listed are heavier than it is, they are easy to hold and are well balanced. I recommend that you choose one of them.
I had searched the web and read reviews of circular saws before buying (and later returning) the DeWalt 369CSK, and the reviews showed that it was light, had detents for two angles of cut, had a composite base, and cut at a good rate if given a good blade. No mention was made of the strange shape of its base.
While at Home Depot last night, I asked another shopper, who happened to be a professional carpenter about the DW369CSK.He said that he had bought one but he returned it as defective because the motor burned out quickly. He said that he got one of the Porter Cables and it works fine.
I recommend that Amazon add a picture of the DW369CSK which shows the base so a potential customer can make a more informed decision. I have made a number of purchases through Amazon and am very happy with them. This is the first item that I have returned. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Get the dust bag
Simply great, I have no complaints whatsoever. I have perfected this really goofy method of tapering boards now. You can rotate the depth adjustment while you're planing and get pretty good tapered boards. It works pretty good.Ever need a piece that's 3" wide at one end and 2 3/4" wide at the other? You guys that work on old houses know what I mean.I'm sure this is in the manuals list if things not to do....like don't use the planer in the bathtub. I only wish that they would increase the price $20 and include the dust bag. (Part# DW6656) Power planers spray shavings like confetti so you'll want the bag if you plane doors inside the house.I don't think anyone else even offers a dust bag.I loved the huge case.Dust bag fits inside the case.

5-0 out of 5 stars You can't live without this in your shop!
I have owned this planer for a couple of years now and must say it has been a life saver. It has tons of power, nothing slows this beast down. The front knob is very convenient for adjusting the depth from 1/32 to 3/32.Remember the knob on the front is for balance not steering.

I have used this to widen rough-ins for doors and windows.I recently had a framer build a soffit too low.I used this planer to raise the base of the soffit 1/2".This would have been an impossible job without this tool.I have also use this on doors that drag on carpet. One or two swipes and your door is swinging freely. There are a million applications for this thing.Of course a very popular use for this tool is to fix studs before hanging drywall. What an easy way to eliminate high points on a stud or a joyce so the your entire wall is plumb.

I've found this tool to be very precise.I can shave 1/32 or really dig deep if I need. The balance is good and the center of gravity is low.It planes glassy smooth with no chatter marks.

Another nice feature is a small plastic clip that drops down from the back of the planer. That way when the planer is spooling down you can lay down the tool and the spinning blade won't catch on the surface and take off across the room.

There are some tools that are nice to have and some that are a must have. How many times have you needed to remove some wood, but you don't want to chisel it off and ruin the entire piece? With the precised depth adjustment you can make a beautiful plane cut and save your project. This is a must have tool. This tool has saved the day a number of times.I would highly recommend this.
