If only it would get here
I'd love to say how the product works but it has not arrived !!!
It has been on order since Nov 16,2004 and you still say you can get 1 day delivery or usually ships in 24 hours !!! Now I do not have a Christmas present for my husband and I thought I ordered it in PLENTY OF TIME !!!!
update:today is 12-30-04. It says my order shipped on 12-21 but UPS says they never got it. I am cancelling this order and returning the items I did get. I am so dissapointed.

Good Saw- Bad Motor
Bought this tool over a year ago but only used it for a total of about 30 hours before the motor "burned out".The tool is solidly built, blade changes are easy, and overall I was quite happy with all aspects of the tool until, of course the motor went.Called the Dremel people, it's out of warranty and to get it fixed is cost prohibitive so I'll have to buy a new saw.If I had confidence that this event was a fluke I would buy another Dremel 1680, but another reviewer had a burned out motor with very little time on the saw.It's a shame because other than the motor this 4 star tool, alas a great saw with no motor is a $149.00 paper weight.I think I have to drop 3 bills on a Dewalt 20".

The good, the bad, but nothing ugly
After looking at the various scroll saws available, I chose this one because of the 90 degrees of table angles available (only the Craftsman also has that feature) and the fast angle settings which lock into the metal positioning plate which make returning to various settings very quick.I also had excellent experiences with Dremel products in the past.

The only problem experienced so far was the similar "clanking" sound another reviewer mentioned, but I was able to fix that by removing the two screws which hold the motor cover in place, adjusting the holes and re-installing it so the weight on the motor shaft no longer hit the inside of the cover.

I also agree with one of the other reviewers that the switches are tiresome after a while because they are so small and somewhat difficult to operate under the rubberized dust covers.

The "free" stand went together easily, and by not fully tightening all the bolts on the stand I was able to align all the holes before fully tightening down the saw.I did have to add two washers to two of the mounting holes on the top because the metal wanted to bent when tightening the saw to the stand.

The light is bright enough for me as it is not the only light I use near the saw, and it doesn't get too hot to work around.It does however get in the way at times when working with larger pieces if the table is at an extreme angle, but this is normally not an issue.

All in all the saw works fine, and has been reliable.Next time I would spend the few extra dollars and buy the new Delta which is much heavier for less vibration, and has even easier blade changing and tension setting adjustments, both of which I feel are more important features. ... Read more

We will admit that we think these rotary tools are some of the coolest things around; you can do so many things with them. But once we saw this attachment, we were blown away. If you don’t have the money or the space (or the inclination) to set up a whole router table assembly in your home or shop, but you still want to put decorative edges on wood projects, this is absolutely the ticket. This will destroy your tool
I'd stay away from this one until the design flaws are fixed.Tons of sawdust from the piece you're working on will fall into your tool and render it useless.I've killed two Dremels, and got maybe a grand total of 5 minutes use out of the table.

Dremel Mini router table acessory
I have been using this for quite a while, and at times, it is a lot easier to use this, to dadoes for small items on soft wood like boxes. I used it to make some boxes out of pire and I used it to do edge work and make dadoes. This is my coolest acessory for the dremel with my wood bit set.

Worked well initially but fizzled out after a few months.
I have a small terrier and really liked how quiet this nail groomer was. She did not seem so tramatized by it.
It did quite a nice job when it worked, but unfortunately, it did not last long enough to really make it worth it. Now when I put it up to her nails, it fizzles out immediately. I even ordered 3 more boxes of the discs, and now have no use for them.

Useful
I have an Irish Terrier. I've used a file (slow and inadequate). Avoided a nail cutter (dark nails, got to the quick once and Michelle hates the sight of the things). I had another grinder (too big, too noisy and AC). This Dremel is great. It's compact, no cords, relatively quiet and two speeds (I usually use the slow speed). And Michelle doesn't mind it at all. Highly recommend.

Way better than clippers
This thing works great, it is easy to shape and trim dogs' nails without "quicking" them.My dog tolerates this MUCH better than any type of clipper.

Two minor complaints:
1.For large dogs, the small sanding drum supplied is not big enough to do the nail well.I already had some larger dremel drums, but you can easily buy these.
2.Since my dog is large (rhodesian ridgeback) and has tough nails, this thing eats batteries like you wouldn't believe.I almost have to replace them every other time I trim his nails. ... Read more

More than Golf
I frankly have zero interest in golf, but I did need a portable, light-duty rotary tool for cleaning battery contacts and light buffing, and this one does very well. It runs on disposable AA alkaline batteries rather than a rechargeable battery pack, and I consider that a plus, since it results in lower immediate cost and avoids the irritating self-discharge characteristics and lengthy recharge times of NiCd and NiMH batteries. Hard To Recommend This
Not bad for the money but the edge guide's working range of 1 1/4" to 4" really limits it's utility.The edge guide was of no use in routing a 1/2" groove into the narrow (1 ½") side of a 2 X 4.This made the router attachment of no use on my project.

Dremel has the "Shaper / Router Table" attachment and a soon-to-be-available Plunge Router attachment you should consider.I believe the Router Table attachment would have worked for my project.Wish I'd bought it instead.I'll be buying it now too.

You get what you pay for
I was disappointed with the attachment. It's
made out of plastic, and while reasonably firm,
it does bend a little. Not what you want for
precision work. Make sure you use the collet
and tighten it sufficiently otherwise the bit
will sink into the wood as you work. The depth
measurements are just a bunch of lines, numbers
would be nice. I was unable to rout a straight
line with the edge guide, probably because I
was going right to left instead of left to right.
I'm now in the market for a real router. Hopefully
I'll get what I pay for there...

Know your purpose--not for doggy toes
I bought this tool from another company as a dog nail grinder. However, there are other Dremels better suited for this purpose. Also the product specs on Amazon are not always correct--double check first on the Dremel web site. This tool is currently spec'ed for 10K and 20K rpm. For puppy dogs slower is better as the friction is less and the nail does not get hot as quickly. Best tool would be something around 5K rpm. I think that's the slowest they sell. Some reviewers complained about the 8000-01 Lithium-Ion Cordless so maybe the 7800-02 9.6V Cordless MultiPro® is a good bet, though I have seen good reviews on the 750-02 MINIMITE® Cordless Tool however it's slow speed is 6500. BTW, specs for the 761-01 Pet Nail Grooming Kit are not online at Dremel so I can't confirm if the Amazon specs are correct, you need the owner's manual to do that. Thanks! and Good Luck!!

An incredibly useful tool that even I can use without mishap
I'm not what you would call a handy sort of fellow; a few years ago, my greatest handyman-type success was the successful changing of a light bulb.Five years ago, I had never even heard of Dremel; now, I wonder how and why anyone goes through life without a handy-dandy Dremel tool.A few years ago, I got it in my head that I wanted to build my own working versions of Tom Servo, Crow T. Robot, and Gypsy of Mystery Science Theater 3000 fame.Such a project involves some tool-oriented activity, so for the first time in my life I found myself looking at tools.Since I know nothing about tools, I went about my business trying to look like I knew what I was looking for.I think every man responds to the siren call of the hardware department at some point in his life, but not until I found myself looking at a selection of Dremel products did I feel a strange lump of excitement in the pit of my stomach; tool anxiety had suddenly turned into tool excitement, and I gleefully returned home with this Dremel Multipro Cordless kit - feeling quite manly, I might add.

Cordless version has quirks - but does great job
Good: high speed+abrasive wheel cuts through ANYTHING, light durable feel when using, vast array of bits makes this a jack of all trades from cutting to polishing.

Bad: battery pack does not last very long, On/Off Switch is not definite (safety concern?), needed to buy 2nd battery pack while working a a bathroom project

Makes any Dremel-type tool more versatile
The advantage of the flex shaft is that it lets you hang the Dremel on the stand, using a pencil-like tool at the "business end", to which you attach your bits (drill, polisher, engraver, or whatever). Because you're not holding the Dremel itself - only the flex shaft - you don't need to deal with the vibrations and weight of the Dremel, letting you do finer work. With the engine parked on the stand, you can grip the flex shaft like a pencil, giving you much more control over what you're doing. Get this stand, along with the flex shaft attachment for your Dremel model, if you're doing any sort of fine craft work or engraving - it's well worth it.

Nice stand
My Dremel scroll saw stand was easy to put together and it holds the tool just fine. I got every nut and bolt required to assemble the stand. (Remember the old days when you got a few extra nuts and bolts?). I guess I don't have much else to say, it is just a set of legs anyway.

Missing several nuts & bolts
The Dremel Model 16500D Scroll Saw Stand is easy enough to assemble and sturdy enough to hold my Dremel Scroll Saw. I gave it three (3) stars due to the fact the following Assembly Hardware were missing from the package:
1 Carriage bolt - M6 x 1.0-12
1 Flat washer - 8mm I.D. 18mm O.D.
2 Hex nuts - M6 x 1.0
1 Hex nut - M6 x 1.25

Extending my reach...
I've found the flex-shaft to be one of the most useful Dremel toolaccessories. It's great for those remote, hard-to-reach areas of my workpieces where the width of the tool itself would hinder my efforts, ot itjust can't reach. It took a while for me to get the hang of using it, sinceit required a bit more hand control than I originally anticipated. Justmake sure to keep it as straight as possible, and don't bend it too much-it heats up pretty quickly, especially at the bends. And heat's the bigkiller of this accessory. Also, be sure to have a bit of the flex-shaftgrease handy for occasional lubrication.

The only thing that annoys meabout the flex-shaft is that it won't accept a chuck to secure the bits,just collets. This can be a major frustration when I'm doing work thatrequires constant bit changes, with different bit diameters. Just when Ithought I was rid of those pesky collets forever...

I shopped around first
I compared this tool to the other ones out there and it won hands down. I needed a tool to cut a variety of materials like drywall, plywood and formica countertops. Works great. I got the circle cutter too and I was surprised how easy it was to use and how perfect the circles are that it makes. I recommend it to any home owner like myself.

Great cut out saw
My other cut out saw went bad on me and I just about bought another one until I saw the Advantage. I liked the long warranty and the fact that I could change the motor brushes for longer tool life instead of thowing the tool away. Best tool ever
I got this ool for my science class.We use it for building moust trap cars and it works like a dreem.great construcion and you can even get replacement blades for it.if you build mouse trap care this is a defanite.

Awesome little saw
I am amazed at the clean cut that this saw makes. I suppose it depends on the material you are cutting, but more often than not get a smooth, precise cut with no ragged edges. The saw is also remarkably easy to guide and cut a straight line. It's very well put together and I've had no negative issues with it whatsoever.

Not new, but useful
Dremel had a saw blade bit an number of years ago but withdrew it, probably because there was no blade guard.Now they have solved the blade guard problem and by angling the tool a bit have made it able to cut in the center of a board.It took a little getting used to before I got comfortable with it because the guard tends to fight you a bit until you develop the technique to open it properly as you start the cut.It is limited to 1/4" depth of cut making it specifically a modelers tool.When used for what it does best, it is great. ... Best Sharpening I ever had
Previous to spending 10 bucks for the Dremel Sharpening attachment, I was taking my chains to a professional to have them sharpened.It pays to follow the directions in setting up the sharpener correctly, but, once you do, you'll get the BEST sharpening job ever.My sharpening job with the sharpener was far superior to any of the sharpenings that I ever got from a professional. Plus, the professional guys ground an 1/8th inch or so off of the teeth each time they sharpened my chains, when, in fact, all they needed to do was to put a sharp edge on the teeth. The Dremel sharpener works magnificently and gives you a phenomenally sharp edge that will last a long time [as long as you keep your chain out of the dirt!]For the price of this product, it simply can't be beat.

Instructions Incorrect!
When a chainsaw is sharpened, the sharpening tool is always referenced to the top of the cutting tooth (see the sharpening instructions from any saw chain manufacturer).

However, on Dremel attachment 1453, front of box, the picture shows the guide riding on the chain's depth gauge instead. Printed instructions on the back of the box (and supported with pictures) confirm this error for both left and right teeth.

To further confuse matters, the instruction sheet inside the box describes a method where the guide rides on top of the tooth for one side of the chain, but on top of the depth gauge for the other side! This is also incorrect, in addition to contradicting the instructions on the box.

Nonetheless, the device works adequately, especially if the user modifies the procedure to cause the guide to ride on top of the cutters for both sides of the chain.

In my opinion, this would become an excellent attachment if the instructions were rewritten, the pictures on the box replaced by correct ones, and the guide manufactured as a mirror image of the one presently sold. This would allow sharpening both sides from the non-engine side of the saw, thereby allowing two more teeth to be sharpened before chain repositioning. On an 18 inch bar this amounts to five rather than three teeth for left side cutters - a 67 percent improvement.

I have e-mailed Dremel with some of these observations, but received no reply!

My most used tool.
I hate sanding just like you, but this sander makes it a lot easier. The orbital action is excellent allowing rapid stock removal while leaving the surface very smooth. The variable speed is great for delicate jobs or tight corners. The extra long cord is also a plus. The contour attachments work well (on or off the machine) but the sleeves are pretty spendy. If you look around on the web you may find them on sale from time to time. Stock up if you do. The only other concern worth mentioning is the diamond shaped sanding pad. The hook and loop paper sticks to it so well that you need to use care when removing the paper so as not to rip the pad from its base. Works well
Hey just a quick note to say that this works awesome with the advantage tool.I only used it for drywall cutouts but it snaps off and on very quickly with a quick modification to the depth of the tool.The only real drawback seems to be the measurement settings on the tool.They are vague at best if you want to cut out a hole of an exact diameter.I just used my tape for setup and went with that instead of using the built in measurements. ...
