It's industrial-type power for the home do-it-yourselfer. The six-amp motor gives you plenty of power—up to 750 rpm—for whatever's on your do-list. Triple gear reduction means a longer tool life and more guts for heavy-duty drilling and driving tasks. We like the fact that B&D built this gear housing of metal, protecting it from an inadvertent tumble from atop a ladder. They really paid attention in ergonomics class, too—we love the soft grip handle for super comfort and extra control. The auxiliary handle rotates 360 degrees, so it's wherever you need it most. Another plus in the ergonomics department, the handle's more centered on the tool, so its overall balance is a big improvement over older models. The trigger's bigger, letting you squeeze with two fingers rather than one, something we're partial to as well. Not bad, but think before you buy
For most ordinary household uses, this is a fine drill.It has good power and torque.However, I did have a minor problem.

I found the keyless chuck had difficulties grasping round drill bits.I had tremendous difficulties using a hole saw with this drill.Other round drill bits, such as one used to drill regular holes worked OK, but I still had problems getting the chuck tight enough (it seemed the bigger the bit, the more difficult I had).To be honest, I am not sure if the problem is with the product line or my drill only...

Terrific warranty
I was blown away by the good warranty on this drill (maybe any Black & Decker tool??).I got this same drill 14 months ago as a Christmas present.Something broke inside so I thought "oh no".But I walked into a B&D service center, (there are lots of them throughout the US), WITHOUT a receipt, the guy behind the counter looked at a date stamped on the drill (warranties are for 2 years), went in the back and brought me out a new one!!Case, bits and all!I was out of there in 4 minutes.Amazing.I'll be buying more B&D tools.

Excellent Value!
I ordered this for my husband. He loves it! The 4.5 amp power is more than enough for normal household uses. The main selling feature is the keyless chuck. No need to keep an eye on the "key". tons or power
Extreamly powerfull and fast. A little on the heavy side, but that is to be expected.It costs so little for its power it is mind bogling.It's cord is a little short, but that just makes it simpler to store.I would sudgest that you get a 20' extension cord to use it in the home.

Good drill if the bearings don't break
I bought this drill a year ago. It worked great the first hour I used it. Tons of torque. However, the bearings on the back end of armature couldn't meet the demand and promptly broke, thus locking up the motor and making the drill useless. I replace the bearing and the thing worked good (not great) up to a few weeks ago when it broke and locked up again. B&D has made great drills for a long time. I don't know if it is my particular drill that is a lemon or if the model is just poorly designed.

A Decent Drill
Like other Black & Decker products, this drill has its place as a tool for quick jobs around the house.I have this drill under my workbench for simple things like tightening loose nuts on door hinges, taking screws inand out of cabinets, or similar jobs.However, for bigger jobs, likescrewing long screws into wall studs, building a deck, or putting downplywood floor boards, you need something more powerful.Even though itlacks power, this drill is a good choice for those simple jobs because itweighs less than the more powerful (and more bulky) drills.

In general,if you aren't planning to do heavy-duty work, Black & Decker usually isa good choice in all of their tool categories (not just drills).I haveseveral Black & Decker power tools that I keep around for those timeswhen I have simple, quick work to do, or when a friend of mine needs a toolto borrow for the weekend.

I can't really criticize this tool for itslack of power because Black & Decker is honest about their place in thetool world, they fulfill a necesary need for middle-of-the-road tools, andthey charge a fair price. ... Read more
