no more clean up, planer doesn't clog anymore
It fits and does the job just fine. With this thing hooked up and the dust collection running, I can plane a bunch a stack of wood and not have to sweep, clean, and cough my lungs up when I'm done. It saves me a ton of time and keeps the garage much cleaner.

I was worried that the thin intake on it would get clogged since the planer alone tend to, but it does not. The suction from the dust collector keeps things running smoother than if the planer was doing the job alone.

The only reason I give it a 4 star rating instead of a 5 is that it must be disconnected to close up the planer. So when it's time to move the machine away to put the minivan back in the garage you've got to twiddle with some thumbscrews for a minute. Not sure how a better design could have eliminated this step, but making it go quicker with a latch or something would have been nicer.

Absolutely essential accessory for Delta 22-580 planer
Do not even try operating the Delta 22-580 planer without using this dust chute with a good dust collector attached to it. You'll create the biggest mess you can imagine and also end up with wood chips embedded in the wood you're trying to plane. It's really a shame that Delta doesn't include this accessory with its planer because it really is a vital requirement. I have been very pleased with its performance and would highly recommend it.

This really works!I am always suspicious of the so called dust connectors. Most of them fail to collect the sawdust and leave a mess. But this is very effective at least 90 to 95% will be pulled into the dust collector. ... Read more

Delta 1 micron let down
Cheap Cheap Cheap...Sure they are 1-micron dust bags... My Grandmother could have done better at sewing a bag together...Ink marks and no double stitching on the loops... In fact it appears to have a loop missing....Again how can Delta hold there heads up with charging so much for a crappy crafted piece of material.... The original bag was made better by the Asians so why can the US made products at least muster up to their quality?? Not even a Delta Logo on the bag... a waste of money in my opnion.... your better off just throwing a sheet over your dust collector with the original bag on it....probable just as effective or perhaps better....

I just installed my 1-micron bags. What a difference!It's true, the 1-micron bags do not inflate up hard like the original bags that came with the dust collector.Since the 1-micron bags allow so much more air to pass through more easily, do not expect them to be inflated hard and stiff.The 1-micron bags have less resistance to air flow.To test, I held the original bags and the 1-micron bags over my mouth to see how breathable they were.The 1-micon bags were very easy to breath through and the original bags were very restrictive.I purchased the 1-micron bags for two reasons, (1) I breath anything that the bags do not collect and (2) I started noticing a very light dust covering over items in my storage room where I also keep the dust collector after about 2 weeks of use (I just installed my dust collection system.)I can only imagine what it would look like after 2 years with the original bags.Keeping things clean is the original reason I bought the dust collection system in the first place.My only negative is I think these bags are a bit pricey but I still worth a 5-Star rating.

bad QC
I received my dustbags today and tried to put them on.Unfortunately what I received must have been a training version for a first-day employee.It was covered with red marker ink indicating where they were supposed to sew loops and seams.Unfortunately, the person marking it must have also been having a bad day.Some loops were marked and sewn 5" apart, while others, were more that 24" apart (trust me, I measured).Needless to say, I have requested an exchange from Amazon--let's hope Delta's QC folks don't let more of these out.

Also typical of the last few teims I purchased from Delta, the packaging and/or directions don't match the current state of the product--this one came in a package that said top dust bag, so I started to worry, but then there was obviosly the bottom bag in the package as well. ... Read more

Much needed Part
I didn't purchase this item at the same time as I purchased my planer. What a mistake. This makes the operation of the planer so much cleaner and more effective. (I don't have to stop and clear chips out of the way.) The adapter goes to a 4" hose for a regular dust collection setup. However, with an adapter, you can use a shop vac. I used both systems and they both work extremely well. Setup was a breeze and took under five minutes. Very simple and very useful accessory.

Fits easy and collects most of the chips
It took me about five minutes to put this on my planer. It gets about 99% of the dust and I'm using a 6hp, 18.6 gallon shop vac.

A hint for you if you plan on using a shop vac with this.You will need a 4 - 2 1/4 reducer.This will fit your shop vac just fine, all you need is a 2 1/2 splice and I found this at my local home center with the shop vac accessories.The 4" part of this is another story. The end of the chute is 4" and the reducer end is 4", they don't fit together they just butt up against each other and I couldn't find any kind of 4" splice.The solution for this is to use a dust collector hose but they are expensive so I bought a dryer vent hose.Normally that hose would collapse but since I'm only using to keep both of these parts together there is nothing to collapse.It works great and will save you from having to buy 20' of dust collector hose to only use 3".

Easy to install.
It tooks about three minutes to pull off two torx screws, two phillips screws, hold the adapter in place, and put the four screws back in.I then folded the wings on the sides with a rubber mallet and this seems to have sealed it well.My only gripe is that it should have something akin to weather stripping to seal it though it's adequate as delivered.

Doesn't adapt so well
Delta usually puts more quality into thier products. I had a bit of trouble trying to get the screw holes on the dust adapter to align with those of the jointer. Once attached, the fit was less that tight, which caused some shavings and dust to leak out when used with my shop-vac. When I hooked it up to my Jet 1100CF vac, these problems seemed to go away. ... Bad Instructions, Good Product
The editorial review @ Amazon states that this is a REPLACEMENT of the chip chute... THIS IS INCORRECT!The poor quality copy that serves as the instructions never states that you remove the existing chute--thanks to one of the Amazon reviewers for getting this right!It fits over the existing chute.In this configuration, the dust hood works well and is structurally stiff.Mine fit on the planer with no problems or modifications.

As far as performance is concerned, I even forgot to turn my dust collections system (1100CFM) on for one pass and the only chips that came out were towards the front of the machine; with the dust collection turned on the dust chute was every bit as effective as I thought it would be: almost no chips or dust in the work area.

Bad Fit for the price
Sheet metal had to be rebent into the proper position to get it to fit.About a 45 minute job.

A little flimsy for Delta
The metal dust hood is a little flimsy for what I usually expect from Delta.The instructions were photocopies of bad photocopies and were nearly useless.The hood goes over the existing chip chute, it does not replace it.This was not clear in the instructions.If you remove the existing chip chute to add the dust collector, it leaves the blades exposed.However, it is easy enough to see how it fits on the planer.The holes, etc fitted well.It works well and collects most of the dust and chips.I hessitated before buying based on other reviews.I think it works well for people using a dust collector with plenty of air flow.It probably does not work well if you are trying to use a shop vac.Overall, it's OK for me.I would not have minded spending a few more dollars if the quality was better. ... THIS IS THE ADAPTOR YOU WANT IF YOU HAVE A 4" DUST COLLECTOR. THE PICTURE IS MISLEADING BECAUSE THE DUST CHUTE IS NOW OFFSET TO CLEAR ANY MOBILE BASE PROBLEMS YOU MIGHT HAVE HAD. ITS A LITTLE OVER PRICED FOR A PIECE OF SHEET METAL AND A STANDARD PLASTIC DUST CHUTE ( PART # 406-12-026-0001). IT WOULD BE MORE REASONABLE FOR AROUND 20 BUCKS, BUT FOR WHAT DELTA WANTS FOR A NEW UNISAW IT SHOULD BE INCLUDED.

Just right, but could be a bit sturdier
This works great, and with my mobile base. I would suggest a 90-degree adaptor with a 6" length of hose to make it a bit easier to hook up to the rest of the system.

Requires the removal of the lower shelf (at least so far), but I don't really use it anyway.

Not recommended with Delta mobile base
I do not recommend this dust connector in combination with Delta's mobile base.I had two issues: The dust port is too close to the swivel caster and interferes with the hose connection.The right side exit required a tight radius bend of flex hose to get to my left side duct collection pipe.I found rear exiting 50-224 (with 5" opening) to be better. ... Poor Design
I agree with the other reviewers.This is a poor design, obviously an after thought.I have DJ-15 that is a few years old.I have no intention of drilling holes in it.Also, the outlet is 5 inch, not 4 inch.I sent mine back, I plan to take the suggestion of the other reviewer and tape on a plastic one.Delta makes then for their newer 6 and 8 inch jointers.

Come on Delta, you can do better than this!

If you plan on buying a DJ-20, buy an inexpensive square table saw dust connector (about 1 ft. x 1 ft.), use 1 in. double sided foam tape (like the kind used to hand posters and such), and stick the connector to the side of the DJ-20.You won't be forced to drill any holes in your new expensive jointer, and you'll get a perfect seal around the connector.

Requires modification to router
My wife ordered this for me, since it was on my wishlist.She had purchased my Delta DJ-20 8" jointer from Amazon for my birthday, nice wife!Anyway, this dust connector is mounted with the included screws, but there are no holes in the side of my DJ-20 jointer.I'm going to have to drill holes in the side of my expensive jointer to use this connector.Would have preferred a simpler solution. ... Be careful/50/354
I recently purchased a Delta 36-680 table saw with the recommended 50-354 dust collection system for the bottom of the saw. Well come to find out it did not come close to fiiting ,because it was not designed for this saw----it was designed for an older model. I learned this info. from a service center and a tech. at Delta. Apparently they had several hundred of the 50-354 left over,and chose to continue saying that it was an appropriate accessory in the catalog. Please be advised it's not wide enough (plastic part and themetal brackets holes do not match up.I bought Delta because of reputataion. Now I'm wondering,and am hoping the saw is better thanthe accessories. By the way,neither the tech. guy or the guy at the service ctr. we're surprised.They heard it was an economic decision from higher up.

Good, but you need more
The dust collector plate is simple enough to install.On a saw already set up, it takes about 30 to 40 minutes.If the saw was new and this was installed as part of the assembly process, it would add about 10 minutes.

Others mentioned the gaps on the sides.I closed them up with duct tape.This still leaves the back of the saw open.Contractor saws are not easy to set up for dust collection for this reason.I used a pice of 1/4" plywoods and closed off most of the back.I cut a slot for the drive belt and the motor support,thenmounted it with two sheet metal screws.It goes up about 2/3 of the opening so air can be drawn it for proper dust collecting.When tilting the saw, the enclosure must be removed though, until I come up with a new and better method.

Overall, it works well enough and it better than some "universal" systems.

Almost there!
Delta specifies this one for the 36-431 saw and it installs quickly but it still leaves a gap about 3/8 inch wide on both sides which causes sawdust to escape.I really feel that the design of this unit could be improved to create a better air flow (such as a swirling effect, maybe) in the saw chamber to get more of the sawdust.Although it gets nearly all the sawdust with a 50-850 1200 cfm dust collection system, it leaves just enough to require more cleanup after the cutting is finished. ... Dust Collector Review
Overpriced in light of what you get (or don't get). They need to include the 5" to 4" adaptor (to get it down to the size most people use) and the correct screws to atach it. Otherwise it works fine. It keeps the dust to a minimum. I purchased a standard 5" to 4" heating vent adaptor at Home Depot and pop riveted it on so it would stay put. Extra cost and work that should not have happened if Delta had designed it correctly in the first place.

Not the right one to get for most users
Unless you have industrial-type 5" dust collector lines, get the Model 50-355, also sold here, instead.In spite of what it says on the 50-355 page, it works fine for both left-tilt and right-tilt Unisaws. The 4" port on the 50-355 is also the standard size for home shop dust collection systems.

Works great
I don't agree with the other person who rated it poor.Although it is very expensive for this little piece of sheet metal, prices are similar for air ducts you buy at the hardware store.The other person that rated it was right about not including the bolts that are needed though, which is poor on Delta's part.Otherwise it would have gotten 5 stars.I don't have any gaps with it on my Platinum Edition Unisaw, and it does a great job at getting rid of the dust on the ramp.I check every once in a while, and only get a little bit of piling up in the lower corners, next to the hole.This is far better than my old way of jamming the dust collector hose into the opening and just getting some of the dust, plus this connector gives the DC better suction.Since there is nothing else that fits the opening to this saw besides a cheap plastic option that works very poorly, this is your best bet to properly remove dust.I would recommend it. ... Dust Connector for Older Contractor's Saw w/ 4" Outlet
Delta also offers a 12" and 14" square dust connector with a 4" outlet (50-470 and 50-471). Both are black plastic and less expensive than the galvanized sheet metal version. Amazon offers both. I rate this 5 stars because it is a great connector for older Contractor's Saws (for which it is intended) when you want the 5" opening or the heavier-duty sheet metal. Now you have several options and can pick whichever dust connector works best for your application.

For Older Delta Contractor Saws with 50-314 Open Stand
This dust connector is exactly the right size for my Delta Contractor's Saw (34-410 / 34-440) that I purchased in 1987 which has a 50-314 open base stand. These are for pre-Series 2000 Contractor's Saw models. There is another version available for the Series 2000 Contractor's Saw and Contractor's Saw II, which is model 50-534 and has a 4" outlet. At one time, Delta offered a 5"x4" Reducer (50-479), but it is no longer available. Delta currently offers a quick-disconnect that connects to a 4" hose and slides over the 5" outlet (50-196), although Amazon.com does not stock this item (ARGHH!). I have not researched other options, but the opening on the stand is 12.5"x12.5" with several inches of room to spare on each side. I would imagine you can find something suitable with a 4" opening if desired.

One problem with Delta and Amazon.com is that they do not provide nearly enough information to their customers about dimensional information and product compatibility. You have to wade in and figure it out from the hints available in messages just like these.

And I don't know about you, but I think that Amazon.com should offer the COMPLETE line for all the brands they carry, even if some of the lower volume items are not stocked for 2-3 day availability or must be drop-shipped from the factory.

Doesn't fit my Delta Contractor's saw OR Dust Collector
The description says: "Fits Delta Contractor's Saws with open legged stand".My saw fits this description; I thought this adaptor would be custom fit.But my saw is about 19 1/2 x 16 1/4", and this piece is 12 1/2" square.

I also thought I would find an adapter somewhere that would connect the 5" port found on this device to a 4" hose.No luck.Odd, since Delta's dust collectors have either 6" or 4" intakes, and I've never seen any collector, hose, or adaptor (of ANY brand) that connects to 5".

So it doesn't fit my Delta open-leg contractor's saw or my Delta dust collector.Odd considering it's said to be a Delta part.

Of course, with an open-base saw, any dust fitting is only part of the story: you still need a way to close off the back face, and this is difficult since the motor and belt are back there, and the belt changes position when you tilt the blade.I am planning to try a small enclosing box that may also work as a back-feed table as a solution.

I have since noticed that my saw is a Series 2000.While there is a fitting for Series 2000 saws made by Delta (sold by Amazon), reviews there indicate that that fitting leaves a wide gap.

Looks like I'll be adapting a 14" plastic chute with a piece of plywood to fit the rest of the space.Far from ideal, but better than dust in the air. ... Read more

Solid and Huge -- as expected from Delta
