5-0 out of 5 stars Obviously Improved And Now Flawless!!
I found this in a local store and was able to check it before ordering. The bearings are now all sized to fit the bit without the reducers and associated parts mentioned by earlier reviewers so it is definitely improved. The package has locations to hold each bearing when not in use and the cut is excellent. I have now made hundreds of cuts at various depths and it still cuts beautifully.

4-0 out of 5 stars I think it has improved!
I read all the review in Amazon.com about this bit and hesitated to order it. I've had good luck with all the Freud blades in the past so I gave it a try despite all the bad reviews. I put the bit to test as soon as it arrived. Everything fit perfectly. Cut was very good and it is all made in Italy. There is nothing written on the bearing as one reader mentioned that it was made in China. I think may be because of the bad reviews Freud might have made improvement. One thing I still don't know it how long it will last. But looking at fit and finish it looks like a good product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wrong parts included - Warning: you could be next!
I wish I had read the reviews first, then I would have known to check for parts that don't fit.But I've had good luck in the past with Freud bits and thought I was getting a quality product.I discovered tonight (like many others) that the 5/16 reducers don't fit the 7/8 bearing.

Not only do they lack quality control at the plant, but how many of these are still sitting on shelves waiting to suprise the next unfortunate buyer?Ever heard of a recall or Service Bulletin? How did I happen upon one 2 years and 8 months after they knew about the problem?(See other reviews.) Or was this the fault of the retailer or distributor?

The irony of it all is I happened to "luck-up" and find it in-stock at the local lumber yard, thus avoiding the added delay and expense of ordering on-line.This particular lumber yard is14.5 miles up the road from Freud's USA Corporate office in High Point NC.I'm considering driving the extra distance and returning it directly to the manufacturer in person in addition to writing a letter. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfectly does what it advertises
Seldom do I get something that does exactly what the advertising claims. For example, the Forrest Chopmaster was not the be-all and end-all of miter saw blades - certainly did not outperform the Dewalt 80T blade (at half the price) it replaced. But I digress....

This blade makes perfectly chip-free cuts through melamine particle board and birch or maple veneer plywood - exactly as advertised. It doesn't rip through them like the blade I use with hardwoods, but then that blade makes a total mess of melamine in particular. If you are working with laminates or veneer plywood, this will give you a perfectly finished edge on your cut.Who could ask for more?Me - I want a dado stack with these on the outside....

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Blade!
I purchased this blade to cut 3/4" laminated MDF to make shelves.I wanted to use this material so that I didn't have to paint them.I was worried about chipping, so I bought this blade. Both sides of the laminate remained chip free on both rip and crosscuts. The cut lines were extremely smooth. The blade is whisper quiet too.I'm sold!I'm tossing my 40T blade that came with my saw and I'm purchasing the Freud 50T combo blade.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT MELAMINE BLADE
I HAD TO STOP AND WRITE A QUICK REVIEW OF THIS FREUD BLADE. IT REALLY IS A GREAT BLADE WHEN USED ON THE CORRECT MATERIAL. IT WORKS GREAT ON MELAMINE, LAMINATES.PATICLE BOARD AND BOTH HARD AND SOFT WOOD PLYWOODS. I LIKE IT ON DOUBLE SIDED LAMINATES SINCE I DONT GET THE CHIPPING. I NOTICED THAT ANOTHER WOOD WORKER TRIED USING IT ON HARDWOOD FLOORING, ITS NOT MADE FOR THAT AS THEY FOUND OUT IT DULLED RAPIDLY.ALSO THIS BLADE SHOULD NOT BE USED IN A RADIAL SAW OR SLIDING COMPOUND SAW. ANYWAY IF YOU NEED A GOOD BLADE TO CUT THE MATERIAL THAT I NAMED ABOVE AND YOU DONT WANT TO BREAK THE BANK THIS BLADE WILL SERVE YOU WELL. AS FOR SHARPENING ALWAYS FIND A SHARPENING SHOP THAT USES COMPUTER CONTROLLED EQUIPMENT AND WET GRINDS THE BLADES. AND AS ALWAYS IF ANYONE WANTS TO E-MAIL ME WITH A QUESTION OR COMMENT YOUR ALWAYS WELCOME. THANKS AND HAPPY WOODWORKING ... Read more

Editorial Review

Freud designed this tool as a high-powered plunge router with all the important basic features but without the bells and whistles found on more expensive competitors' tools. The result is a solid workhorse of a router at a reasonable price. And don't think it lacks anything woodworkers need to handle a wide variety of tasks. In fact, this tool includes a height-adjustment knob for table mounting and a dust collection port, both of which are considered extras on other routers.

The variable-speed dial on this router is easy to access and offers precise microadjustments, and onboard electronics keep motor speed constant. This model also offers the soft-start electronics we've come to expect on high-end power tools: power comes on smooth and quickly ramps to full speed. As a result, the big 3-1/4-horsepower motor doesn't torque the tool from the user's grip. Of course, aside from its use as a handheld router, this tool is designed to be mounted to a router table; it is powerful enough that we feel comfortable using it for many tasks we might normally assign to the spindle shaper. We find Freud's router particularly user-friendly when we're making adjustments: the sliding shaft lock, plunge lock, and quick-release depth stop are all conveniently located and easy to operate. Overall, this is a very good tool at a very good price. --Tim Block ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars inexpensive but problematic
The main problem I found with the router was the poorly fitting 1/2 inch and 1/4 inch collet. Both were too large to fit standard router bits when the compression nut was in place. Ihad grind the hardened steel collets on a lathe ( to avoid unbalancing the rapidly turning bits) to fit. The second problem I found was that the system that controls the depth of bits is sprung to high. This makes it difficult to extend the bits without using excessive force to compress the springs. The adjustment knob, usefull for fine adjustments, also requires excessive force to turn when the springs are near full compression. Because the knob compresses only one side it will jam pulling the router out of alignment. This makes it difficult to use in a table. The final major complaint is the collet doesnot extend far enough for some short router bits. In summary inexpesive but beware of its limitations.

2-0 out of 5 stars A Huge Disappointment
I put a tongue and groove edge on 1500 linear feet of eastern red cedar to make random width panel boards for my sunroom walls and trim.I purchased the Freud router since I presumed it to be heavy duty. (The work took place over several months time.I rarely ran the router more than a couple of hours a weekend.) The cedar, being very soft, surrendered to the router bits like butter to a hot knife. However, the Freud sputtered and died after about 1100 feet. It would either not hold speed against a load, or not run at all.I finished the job with a $39 ebay chinese import.I originally avoided the cheapie in favor of getting one that I thought would last, and I guess any thing can happen, but at least for me this unit did not make the grade.I like the layout and the controls, and the depth gauge, which is why I gave it a couple of stars. But durable?Nah!I'll go for another brand if I get serious again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Machine
I have waited over a year to offer my opinion on this router so as to be as objective as possible. For backgound, I am a serious DIY.I have this machine mounted in my router table and love it.I opted for the Freud based on price and previous reviews I read.I have not been disappointed.I have cut raised panels with ease and would recommend this unit to anyone who has a need for this much power.Possibly the 3-1/4hp Porter Cable is better for a production shop, but for the money this router will serve the average guy very well for many years. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Superior Bits
I'm not really sure what foozleface was talking about.I had a project where I needed to bore a 3/4" hole through the end-grain of hard maple, which is significantly harder on a bit than edge grain.Upon the recommendation of a 30-year master woodworker, I purchased the Freud forstner bits.He told me that Freud was the best and I haven't been able to prove him wrong.I drilled through that maple like butter.Freud sold me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Get carbide
The 1/2 inch bit blunted on the first use while trying to make it through an inch of maple. Not a little bit blunted, but to the point where I discarded the bit - all the edges were absolutely round. Go for carbide. - revised 3/8/02 - I was running the damn thing backwards in the drill, and burned it! Stupid move. However, I'd still recommend carbide. HSS bits can lose temper, carbide - not so much. These bad boys can get pretty hot in a drill press, and if you turn 'em blue, you burned it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Wood Boring Bits
For precision holes the best bits are forstner bits. If you work with wood like I do than you want the best. These bits will not chip your wood like other bits. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Professional results from your home shop
Whether you are making one or twenty cabinet doors, these bits from Freud will give you the results you are looking for. Red and white oak is no match for the sharpness of these bits. My one and a half horsepower shaper is enough power to turn the raised panel bit through oak with minimal drag. More power is better but less will do. The design of the bits prevents you from taking too much bite causing kickback and dangerous flying objects. The included instruction booklet provides step-by-step detailed instructions on constructing raised panel doors. I found this very helpful. The finished edges require no sanding and the fit, if time is taken for proper set up, is unmatched by competitors sets. I am currently replacing my entire bit collection with Freud products. Two words "they work".

5-0 out of 5 stars Freud 94-100-513 5-Piece Cabinet Door Set

5-0 out of 5 stars Make an old saw into a new one.
I bought this blade for my 25 year old Dewalt miter saw. I had been seriously considering replacing the saw because it was bogging down quite a bit and didnt seem to produce the nice cuts that it use to. I decided to give this blade a try after having great success with a Freud combo blade on my table saw. I'm glad I did. The thin kerf and anti kickback design has transformed my old saw into a new one. It once again produces the nice miters and smooth cuts that it had for years. What a differance a great blade makes. I really love this old saw because it's all steel, the bed is solid and the adjustment is still precise after all these years. Now with this new blade its rejuvenated. The teflon coated blades are touted as being better than the steel, but for the differance in price I don't think an occasional wood worker can beat this blade. I now own four Freud saw blades including the 6" dadoe set and only have the highest praise for all of them. I'm not wasting my money on any other brand, from now on its Freud all the way. I do wish they made bandsaw blades. Amazon, couldnt find anyone who could beat your price or delivery time. Thanks

5-0 out of 5 stars The only thing cheap is the price
This saw blade is top notch. It does superb cross cut work and is very smooth and powerful. When you remove the blade from the package you know without a doubt that it is top quality. Not only would I recommend this blade for finishing work but for this price you can afford to use it for general use.Top notch keep up the good work Freud.Amazon I looked but found no one who could beat your price. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Frustration
Freud 99-280 Recoverable Bead Glass Door Bit Set, do a beautiful job once you have zeroed in on the right settings. However doing that is a VERYdifficult job, and is reallyfrustrating. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that Freud mysteriously provides no instructions , diagrams or even any recommendations for their use. I have tons of Freud blades and router bits, and my biggest complaint is they almost never have any instructions. The biggest problem with this bit set is when you remove the glass bead. If you are of a 32nd of an inch the tenons will be either to short or to long, and in the earlier case there is no way to correct it. I will still buy Freud products, but I wish they would spend a few bucks and create an instruction manual. Many of their competitors have already done so. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent Blade for crosscutting and plywood
I'd give this a 4.5 if I could.I only rates a 4 for crosscutting. It does a nice job, but nothing outstanding. For sheetgoods, however, it makes extremely nice cuts without any tearout.I've cut baltic birch plywood, MDF, MDO and perfect cuts every time. For these, I'd give it a 5.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dang that's sweet!
I put this blade on my Craftsman radial arm saw and it completely
changed the way I feel about that saw.Now the thing cuts
like a hot knife through butter. The cross cuts leave end
grain so smooth you'd swear you were feeling a sanded surface
with the grain.Ok, maybe not that smooth, but still, pretty
darn smooth.I haven't tried any other fancy or expensive
blades, but this blade put my old cross cutting blades to
shame.Highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cuts great but...
This blade makes cuts as smooth as glass and does not tend to splinter wood as some other blades do. The only problem is that sometimes it leaves red marks from the tefon on the piece of wood after it is cut. Makes you wonder if it is worth the exta cash. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The 20-tooth, negative hook angle on Freud's Super Dado stack helps prevent chipping when cutting plywood, and it also gives you high accuracy and a smooth finish when cutting hard and softwoods. The set can be used on all table and radial-arm saws for cutting slots, grooves, dadoes, and rabbets. The set also includes a 3/32-inch chipper, which is nice because many types of plywood are being manufactured 1/32 of an inch less than the nominal size; it works great on plywoods and allows you to cut dadoes that fit these materials with less shimming. "Laser-cut with carbide tips, these blades have a square tooth design that reduces drag in the cut and also reduces the material's guiding effect, while at the same time increasing the number of possible sharpenings. And by eliminating the hub and developing a gullet design, you get maximum chip ejection, which prevents chip buildup within the stack. The results, to put it simply, are impressive: supersmooth dadoes, both the sides and bottom. --Dori Anvinson ... Read more

I used to do all of my ratteting and dado cutting with various size straight/rabbet router bits and a homemade jig/guide fence system.I figured I'd bite the bullet and buy a dado blade. After doing some research and getting over the sticker shock of the average $200-$250 price range for most dado sets, I figured that I go for the SD208 for only $90.I figured that since it is from Freud, it can't be all that bad, no matter how much cheaper it is than the other models.Overall, I think the SD208 is a good buy COMPARED to all of the other dado sets and their prices of 2-3 times more than the SD208.More specifically, here are my thoughts:

POSITIVE:

1) The storage/carrying case is great.Durable plastic with an arbor-like post to mount the blades on.

2)Price.As I said, this blade is a comparatively good deal compared to other sets in the $200-$250 price range.

3)Shims are included. From what I've been told, some sets don't include shims.I can't verify that, but this set does indeed include shims.I believe there are 5-7 differenly sized shims.

NEGATIVES

1)My biggest gripe with this set is that the bottom of the cuts are far from being flat.Whether using the outerblades by themselves, or using them with different configurations of chippers, each cut bottom has multiple ridges/blade marks.

2)Shims aren't size labeled.Freud gives a great little chart showing what size chippers and shims are needed for differentcuts. However, the shims aren't labeled at all. They are merely blank circular cuts of metal. However, as any woodworker knows, you should always run your own test cuts for any job...so I'm in no way livid with Freud. It would just be a little nicety if they could label the shims.

As I said, I think the SD208 set is comparatively a great blade for its price, when viewd against other sets. However, I would recommend not skimping on price and upgraded to one of the higher-end Freuds or a Forrest set.

3-0 out of 5 stars Try to get it sharpened
I run a small woodworking shop and I purchased the Dial-A-Width Dado.I think it is a great dado, but it has a -12 degree grind on it.Every sharpening shop in Denver cannot sharpen it without buying an expensive computer program for their machines and they will not buy it unless they can make enough off the sharpening to pay for it.I called Freud about having them sharpen it and they said they are not in the sharpening business.Buyer beware. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Hokey smokes!
I have read a lot of reviews about how great such-and-such a blade is compared to some other blade. I figured that while most of what was written was probably true, a good chunk of it was probably the same sort of bunk that you hear from folks who consider themselves audiophiles - all talk and no substance mixed in with a lot of pseudoscience. In other words, Bunk with a capital B.

Well, I needed to get a blade for an old saw I am restoring, so I bought one of the TK906 blades. Everything good you hear about the blade is 100% true!

I am pretty new to woodworking, so still have the blades that came with the tools. I am used to having to wear hearing protection when sawing. I was completely amazed when I did a test cut with the TK906 - instead of a very loud "skeeraach!" sound that I am used to, I heard "bzzzzzzzzzzzzt". The blasted motor and arbor turning on the saw makes more noise than the blade cutting!

Once I inspected the cut that's what really sold me. Granted, 99% of the cut is having the blade aligned properly (and I go for a perfect alignment), but the cut I got was ridiculous - perfectly flat, smooth, no tear out. Close inspection showed very little in the way of teeth marks - they are there, but are miniscule.

I know there are some more expensive blades out on the market, but I can't see how they would be worth the added expense. Maybe they are, but it is awfuly hard to improve on cuts like I am getting.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good workhorse.
Freud has good products made from good materials.Keep it clean and this blade will work hard for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Freud TK906
I've used this blade on an underpowered older table saw for a year now, mostly on oak and ash. It is better than any other blade I've tried (and has lasted longer). No noticeable vibration, less stock removal, and good smooth cuts on all types of stock and thicknesses. It even cuts 8/4 unfinished oak stock with little problem. From the above, you can gather that I also use it as an all-purpose blade. Highly recommended for the price. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Are expensive router bits worth the cost? After testing Freud's 1/2-inch shank set, we think the answer is yes. The features found in these Freud bits--long-lasting micrograin carbide/titanium tips, tri-metal brazing, and an antikickback design--make them a better choice than less-expensive options. Each Freud bit is computer-balanced to run vibration- and chatter-free at speeds well in excess of the typical 22,000 rpm of most routers. These bits have a high shear angle that produces less tear-out and chatter marks, leaving a cross-grained cut that requires little or no sanding. Multiaxis grinding helps ensure the proper relief angle on cutting edges regardless of how the bit is oriented. The kit includes a variety of useful bits most frequently used by woodworkers and comes in a sturdy wooden case for maximum protection of the cutting edges. --Tim Block ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Clean Cutting and Reasonably Priced for a 12" Blade
Using this blade with a Delta TwinLaser miter saw, I have consistently obtained clean, splinter-free cuts.Look at the blade, however. The shot on this site depicts a 72T blade, and the rack at the home improvement store where I purchased mine also had 72T and 80T "Fine Cut Off" blades mixed together.I have the 80T blade.

Sure, it doesn't have a PTFE coating, but wiping down a blade from time to time with a bit of solvent to clean off pitch is no big task. And Freud's carbide tips are beefy and sharp.I don't anticipate any problems, having had good luck in the past with their Diablo 7.25" circular saw blades. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Its the real deal
As the previous reviewer said, this bit comes sharp and stays sharp.I have enjoyed super smooth cuts in flat sawn red oak, quarter sawn white oak, poplar, pine, and walnut.I can't say enough how good this bit is for flush trimming both free hand and in a table.

I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Keeps going, and going, and going........
