Gardena 36938-12 Twin-Cap Connector
I like and go to great lengths to find Gardena® watering products. K-Marts, Wal-Mart, & WormsWays stopped carrying them in my local area so mail-order is the only way. Most carry, I think, life-time guarantees, but you may need to check ahead of purchase and keep sales receipts for years to enforce that guarantee on the better products. Cheaper ones like this you may pitch the receipt and then lose out. My Gardena 36938-12 Twin-Cap Connector cracked in the first sason of use at the Y-branch and no glueing could save it. You probably will be better off buying a brass fitting. Be sure it is brass and not plastic coated with a brass or metalic surface. ... Read more

Very Poor Quality Products
I have made a significant investment over the years in numerous Gardena watering products--sprinklers, shut-off valves, diverters, etc.ALL have failed in the short-term after modest use.In addition, contacts to the company for replacement or customer service have been met with no response.MY BEST ADVICE--stay away from Gardena products.Looks (from other posted comments)like my experience is not unique!

Shoddy, Shoddy
I purchased one at a local hardware store, and had the flimsy plastic end connector snap off the first time it was used.The store gladly exchanged for another one, and the exact same thing happened.For the fewer $$ I went and bought a heavy duty brass Y connector and 2 smaller brass Y connectors and made a much sturdier 4 tap system.

Worked 1 year - but not anymore
Have used Gardena products and swear by them - but all in all what is made of plastic and valves doesn't work forever - but at least a second watering season would be nice. I removed the distributor before winter arrived and then reattached it this spring. This season though ALL outlets provided water as soon as a "load" was applied even though all but one valve were closed. Couldn't 'wiggle' them enough to stop a low pressure constant flow. The kicker was it wasn't when the water was turned on. But only after ONE or more valves were opened and the water was free flowing through the hose line attached. If I shut off the flow at the end of the hose line with a sprayer - all is well...but just start to water (thus relieving pressure) and the other 2 or 3 would start to flow also? Again - I have 2 of these distributors. Both worked great season 1 - but only 1 is working season 2. I've contacted the manufacturer but heard nothing thus far (42 days). Others have written positive reviews on Gardena's customer service. Thus far I cannot say that is true. ... Read more

Gardena On/Off Valve
First encountered (and started using) Gardena products 15 years ago while living in Europe. The Gardena products are very common in Britain/Europe; available wherever gardening supplies are sold. The "quick-on"/"quick-off" hose attachments work very well. They save a lot of time and frustration in making/breaking connections. Light weight (but heavy duty) plastic. The Gardena On/Off Valve is one of the few Gardena hose accessories that is somewhat fragile. A combination of a few years exposed to sun-light and a hard bang on concrete and the handle breaks (or pops out of the valve body). Still, during it's finite life, it is an important accessory in the Gardena system. When they ultimately break, I go searching for another one. Seal on the "male" end is provided by an "O" rings every four or five years these might need replacing; available for 25 cents at any good hardware. ... Read more

Excellent quality and design, sometimes brittle.
How can I say both things? Easy. The fit, finish and quality of these plastic pieces is typical Gardena. I have several Gardena pieces. But they are PLASTIC. I have broken a couple of these due to putting too much stress on the connection. Mostly my fault but probably wouldn't have happened with brass. I think it would be great if Gardena would offer a higher end set with brass connections.

Gardena first - found surprise
Love the looks, hope they work as well or better than my Fiskars.I was looking at hand-pruners yesterday, visited this site and actually ordered the 601 [lighter duty] model because it was on sale.Then I cancelled the order because the shipping was costly, wanted to see them first-hand or learn more.Last night while walking the dog, I heard a car drive over something that sounded strange - as if fallen from the sky, low and behold, something better than I wanted, something like a delightful answer to a prayer, Gardena 343 shears, none the worse for wear, a few dings, I look forward to field testing them... I suspect a local landscaper will miss them!

Nice tool, but blades are very brittle & break easily
I snapped the end of the blade off this tool within my first hour of use.I was cutting a branch and twisted the shear a bit to try to break the branch off and the blade snapped in two.

While twisting the tool may not be a good practice, I have never broken a blade before on any tool - most of which cost 3.99.The bigger problem is finding replacement blades.None of my local retailers carry them nor, ironically, does Amazon.

I would choose another tool with better, more widely available blades.

Gardena 350T-Wow full replacement!!!
To the other reviewers - the CONNECTOR END end is readily available at Home Depot.Look for a dark green one-the brand is Melnor.Just got one yesterday.(Melnor may have bought Aquazoom.)Used our 350T for a couple years and that part split.But, now the 350T is sticking like the other reviewer mentioned.I nudge it and it starts up, then after a few passes it sticks at one end again.>> 9-26-04-contacted the manufacturer and they will replace or repair the entire unit free of charge!That's impressive.They really stand by their product. Broken and can't find repalcement parts
I loved the item when I received it as a father's day gift.When I was ill a young man mowing my lawn broke the connector (a Beige piece right by the timer) that connects the sprinkler to the hose.I would like to replace the broken part but I have none of the information that came with the product. I am not only interested in replacing the part but if I can find a way to maintain the product I would be interested in purchasing another.I also cannot find a retailer who carries the product in my area.

Great sprinkler for awhile
This sprinkler would easily be a 5 if it were built better.The only metal component is the spike itself, all other parts are plastic.I have hard soil in parts of my yard that make it difficult to sink the spike deep enough for proper performance.This sprinkler did not last a full season without cracking at the point where the spike and plastic meet due to the force required to bury the spike and the weak plastic neck.An overwhelming positive attribute - It is incredibly nice to be able to water in peace and quiet.I will reluctantly keep buying them for that reason alone.

Sprinkler Critique
I need to divide this review into two parts-one for delivery and delivery condition. One for actual performance of sprinkler.

First, I ordered two sprinklers at the same time and received two separate shipments a couple of days apart. The second shipment contained a deeffective sprinkler: one of the plastic adjusting rings was cracked. I'm told a replacement is on back-order.

As for the performance of the unit, its actually quite good. It seems to provide a more even coverage pattern than the typical impact sprinkler and its operation is A LOT smoother- no THWACK THWACK THWACK noise-just a continous kind of whirring noise.

I'll reserve judgement till I get both units in the ground and operating. But so far, this unit is slightly superior to the impact model.

I have owned several melnor products and found that none of them last more than a season.They are all my Home Depot carries so they were my only choice.Electric and manual, they are definitely not made to last.I recommend you look elsewhere.

great timer!!
This thing is great.I've been singing the joys of having a timer to water my garden all summer.I should say that I don't have experience with a lot of other watering timers, so I can't compare it to those.I have just been really impressed with this unit.

Operating is pretty easy.Easy on.Easy off.Easy to switch to automatic again.It is a little confusing the first time you set things up, but they provide a couple nice stickers with the operating instructions on them to stick to the unit.

You will definitely save water and plants with this.No more worrying about having someone water your plants while you are out of town or realizing you've just forgotten to water them for the past week.If you've been thinking about getting a time, do!

Works if you know how to make it work

No excess, does its job well.
Well thought-out design. Lightweight, simple to adjust, connections don't leak, keeps oscillating even without much water flow, can water small and large areas. The only thing not to like about this is that it doesn't have a timer.

versatile sprinkler that works with low flow rates
During a typical dry Oregon summer, the flow rate from our well will often drop below 5 gallons/minute.As a result, we needed a sprinkler that we could continue to oscillate at a low flow rate (to not stress the well, the faucet might be barely turned on with the water was coming up from the sprinkler only about 3 feet).In addition the sprinker needed an adjustable watering pattern so we could fit the pattern to the part of the yard we were watering.
This sprinkler is great - it has never gotten "stuck" in one position, even at low flow rates, and it is easily adjustable to fit different sized areas.

Good Choice for Large Lawns
We just bought a new home with a large yard (19,000sq.ft to be exact) and we've tried so many sprinklers that stake into the ground.We hate that.With this one on a sled, it's much more comforting to know it only needs to sit on the lawn, not driven into it.It's also silent compared to other sprinklers.

The area to water is simple to adjust and very user friendly.Because this is our first yard, and 10th sprinkler, I think we will stick to this kind from Gardena.I am buying another one after this review.

Best sprinkler I've ever had!
Living in Texas is testament to tough weather conditions.Sprinklers don't hold up well under intense heat and the soil is extremely hard in areas such as mine.

These Gardena sprinklers have held up better than any I've owned.They survive the heat.They survive the cold.I have left mine outside year round and they have not fallen apart like so many other brands of sprinklers I've owned.

I especially like the gear driven mechanism.It performs smoothly, does not stall under windy conditions and is very easy to adjust.I owned another brand that broke immediately when I accidently turned the adjustment knobs the wrong way.Unlike a pulsing sprinkler, the smooth stream of water is less likely to dissipate in windy conditions.Another great feature is the sprinkler will operate under lower water pressure conditions which makes it easy to water small areas.

The only thing I've found that has ended the life of my sprinklers is the lawn care folks leave them on the driveway.They do not hold up to be driven over.But I'm buying more and alerting the lawn care people they'll be buying replacements if it happens again! ... Read more

a winner
I have 8 timers working on our property and I am starting to convert to Gardena T-1030 for replacement. I have one working now and it has been functioning for close to a year.
Down here in the tropics, a well designed and constructed piece of equipment is importand to withstand the UV rays and the weather. This product fits that requirement.

OK, but pricey for what you get
I own about 20 of the 31805-4 and 31820-4 Gardena timers. All of them have worked for at least 12 months, but many have failed within 24 months. I don't like having to buy more of them, but there's really nothing else available. One additional "problem" with the 31820-4 is that when you choose longer watering times you must also choose longer periods between waterings and when you choose shorter watering times you must also choose shorter periods between waterings--in other words you can't choose short waterings with long periods between.

I had tried to save a little money and bought another timmer... well it leaked so badly in the guts of the timmer.. not the connections, that I hadto return it and then I bought the Gardena 31805-4 well... no leaks andeverything is now watered through the timmer!Could have saved alot oftime if I had just bought the Gardena first.
