Do not buy without seeing it in person
I personally find the finger hole to be very uncomfortable.The inside is a thick tube shape, so it isn't shaped for a finger very well.Maybe it will work for you, but it sure didn't for me.

The bolt lock is a neat idea, but the opening and closing is kind of rough.It just feels like a low quality knife.

You should definitely see if your local "discount retailer" that starts with a "W" and ends in "al-mart" has one in stock so you can try it out before buying.

Shweet knife
This knife isn't very pretty. Either closed or open the knife just doesn't look "cool." However, this knife is very practical. It's size and Gerber quality make it a wonderful all purpose knife. It is impossible to fling the blade out, but, with practice, you can get used to gripping it correctly to open the knife with just your thumb. This is a knife you will have to take time to get used to using for some of the more general purposes of any pocket knife, but for a job that requires a lot of effort and control for an extended period of time this is the most comfortable knife I have ever used. If you take the time to get used to it, you can do some cool spinning tricks with it too. Of all the knives I have ever owned, this knife was my favorite.

the main problem - it feels so cheap. there are no blade play, and lock hold for a time beeing bet action isn't smooth. It came well oiled, but still opening feels like there are some sand in it.

Nice and Light
This knife is very sharp and durable i am not sure how they measure the blade but I found that measuring it from the where the edge of the blade starts to where it ends is 3 inches not 2.75 inches with the actual length of the open knife a little over 7 inches. The knife is very light and has a great rubber handle the handle at first seemed to be really soft and i figured it was a weak and flexible handle but I found that its very very strong and stiff with a very nice grip. The action on it is very smooth and easy to open and close the only thing that I dont like is that it doesnt have a little knob to help open it with one hand but I can almost open it with just one hand. poor design
The knife is a little stiff to open.

The scissors are not very good, and make your thumb hurt after just a little use (the part you push to cut stuff is a thin sheet of metal).The scissors also tend to not fold up properly without some finesse.The scissors' poor effectiveness make them useless when you already have a knife with you, and you can get an equally decent (or even better) knife for less.

I give it two stars because the knife is unique and you can buy it if it really catches your fancy, but I highly recommend almost anything else.Go to a large discount retailer for cheaper knives of equal quality, or spend just a few dollars more here on Amazon and buy the SOG mini Autoclip.

Excellent knife, cuts like a dream and the scissors are handy and durable, I bought the knife for my boat, and i cut thick rope like it was nothing with very little effort, its lightwieght and the blade is durable, the finsih has kept it very sharp for over a month now

10 years old and as good as new!
I bought this knife 10 years ago and I use it almost daily. It never leaves my pocket unless I'm using it. It holds an edge, is easy to open and close and it's small and light. The finger groves on the handle make it easy to hold when using it. Highly recommended.

Utility- (not redwoods)
I knew what i was getting into- it will fit onto a keychain.That being said, it is a great little knife.Even with an apparently exposed blade, it is well hidden with a lip on the handle.

Looks cool, right?
Great looking knife, right? That's what I thought. It turns out, though, that the thing is tiny! 3" with the blade folded in and a little shy of 5" with the blade extended. Looking at the photo I assumed it was or larger and more useful proportions (like my Columbia River Knife and Tool K.I.S.S. knife). I also think that the lock on this knife is far too easy to disengage.

That being said, this is a fairly nicely packaged knife. The blade is nice and sharp (although I haven't used it enough to see how well it stays that way), and there are both a belt clip and a hole for a lanyard or key ring. Plus it's small and light enough to just throw in your pocket for those just-in-case situations. ... Read more

nice blade, tight action
I own 2 of these, one serrated, one fine edge. I prefer the fine edge for ease of maintenance. The large finger hole provides for an ultra secure grip, the knife is extremely well fit to my hand, and i love the balance.

Unfortunately, the "one handed opening" doesn't work very well, on both of the ChameleonIII's I own, the action is quite stiff. I suspect that this is largely due to the sheer surface area of the blade pivot. causing the chameleon's biggest reccomendation, to also produce my biggest problem with them.

I love Gerber blades, they are always made of damned good steel, and always come with the best factory edge I have seen in my price range. But, I am still undecided about the balance of the extra safety vs. impeded opening on the ones i own. The stiff action makes little difference in daily use, but when i have a "one hand open" blade, i want to be able to open it quick enough to be mistaken for a switch blade, (which i can and have had happen with both a gerber EZout and a Buck Liner lock) instead of having to fiddle with it.

My favorite.
There are several qualities that commend this knife which I have had for several years:

1. this knife is capable of being opened with one hand by applying your thumb against the projections on either side of the blade near the pivot area.

2. the quality is first-rate and the one I have was made in USA. Expect it to be durable and long-lasting.

3. the handle fits very comfortably in a medium to large-sized hand. Most of the weight is in the handle and the blade is just under four inches, legal in most jurisdictions.

4. if I recall correctly, the handle is made of glass fibers, impregnated in a nylon type plastic, which makes it waterproof and very strong.

5. what makes this knife unique is the hole in which you place your index finger, which greatly reduces the chances of the knife slipping and cutting yourself.

(Of course, you will want to exercise care with this knife or any other sharp instrument.)

Unsurpassed

Superb Quality and so Versatile
I have had this tool for a couple of years now and am so pleased with it. The metal finish is so smooth that it is a delight to hold. Friends just can't put it down sometimes. Don't leave home without it
I work as a stagehand and have had this tool for about 7 years now and love it. I use it everyday and can see working without it. The fact that I can open it with one hand in just a snap of my wrist is amazing, it has been a true life saver when I am climbing light rigs upwards of 50 feet and can only have one had free to work. It's strong construction has proven itself to be a tool that I will carry till the day I retire. Many of my co-worker use other multi-tools and they have all said that mine is much better than the ones they carry and wish that they had bought a gerber instead. It's strong, easy to use, dependable, and worth the cost. In the end you get what you pay for.

A solid, sturdy tool...
I have owned my MP600 for six years and use it almost every day.The only damage or severe wear on the tool is when I discovered that the wire cutters should not be used to cut hard steel wire.(Electrical cable, they are just fine, but steel nicks the cutters.)

The pliers can extend one-handed and slide out as smooth as silk, locking into place with a solid "click".(This does take some practice and a little wear.)All of the fold-out tools lock quickly and easily.The tools, especially the file and scissors are top-notch.The fact that the knife blade is half straight, half serrated is not the best design, in my opinion, and I would gladly give up the awl to get separate blades.

I own the optional toolkit, and use it quite often.

great knife
This is a solid working knife. Mine lasted 3 years before I lost it during a move. I had the serrated version; half straight edge, half serrated. The knife opened easily, held a blade well, was easy to sharpen, and had a solid lock. I used for everything from gutting fish to whittling. For the 20 bucks I paid, probably the most use I've ever gotten out of a pocketknife.

Best bang for the buck

Great knife!
Gerber makes excellent knives!Thanks to the clip this knife sits comfortably at the edge of my pocket for east access.The E-Z out description is very accurate since I can open the blade with one hand.The blade is very sharp and the serrations make cutting rope a ton easier!Excellent knife!

Nice but...
I've owned this knife for over 5 years. It has no rust and opens like the day I bought it. It feels good in your hand. Still maintains an incredible edge. I've used it mountaineering and one week excursions. I have even used it for markup on some of my wood working projects. Despite the durability, some of the serrated teeth have broken. I would buy it again, but I'm looking for a tanto style blade this time.

Need a good knife?Well....
A good knife indeed. EZ is not overstated when getting this blade out. Just using the thumb is sufficient when getting the blade out. After a bit of use, and oil, with a flick of the wrist you can flip the blade out. (with practice of course or you'll cut yourself). Sturdy blade construction and serrated portion comes very sharp. Great belt clip. The one thing I like the best is that the unlock button is on top. That just makes it easier I think to use the thing. At about 3.5 inches, this blade is a definite good buy. (overall length 8 in.)

Pro's: Good pocket clip, Strong handle (Zytel), nice Kraton rubber inserts. Also lightweight (3oz.)

Con's: Stainless Steel. A shiny, but soft metal. Blade easily sharpens, but also easily dulls. Also, serrated portion is difficult to sharpen (but if you buy serrated, you'd already know that). Also a little hard on the hand because of the large clip if used for long periods.

Since easily sharpened, this knife makes a good personal protection type knife, or maybe light labor. A nice carry around. But, not a good choice for heavy use.

If you really really like this knife and don't like the stainless steel, Gerber sells premium ATS-34 stainless steel versions. Metal that stays sharper longer than regular stainless. They also have a rescue/utility EZ-Out line.

But if you're a novice knife shopper in need of excellence: there is better out there. Try Coldsteel, Ka-Bar, Kershaw, Ontario, Smith & Wesson, etc. etc. Remember, stainless steel isn't best. Look for high Carbon metals. ... Read more

grippy, incredibly durable knife
I bought a Gerber Gator about 3 years ago. As an oudoors-y engineer, I've used and abused this knife an awful lot and haven't had to sharpen it much. The rubberized handle is great for use in bad weather, and really comfortable for extended periods of time. The gator is a thicker than most folding knives with similar blades, but still fits comfortably into a jean's pocket. It came with a nylon belt sheath, but it wore out quickly (because of increased friction from the rubber knife handle).

Perfect for the Gerber Evolution
Perfect companion for the Gerber Evolution.The jaws are incredibly sturdy and will stand up to much heavier use than other pairs of needle nose pliers that I own.Best of all, because of the Evolution's unique quick change heads, I'm able to leave other tools at home as the knife and up to 3 heads can fit in the Gerber pouch [that comes with the knife itself.]One very interesting feature is the wire cutters located just above the pivot.Each triangle shaped blade is attached by a small screw.This enables each to be rotated [each side is fashioned as a wire cutter] and replaced as needed.
