A simple can with a complex-looking yellow top, this handy mechanism creates an exact chemical solution with little more than a squeeze of the hand. The chemicals--no matter how much--go in the can, and the hose screws into a long extension on the back end of the yellow top. A reference chart on the back translates dilution rates according to teaspoons per gallon, tablespoons per gallon, and ounces per gallon into a dial setting ranging from 1 to 21. An adjustable deflector on the sprayer allows for a solid-stream spray of up to 30 feet, as well as a gentle rainlike spray for milder applications. After you adjust all your settings according to your needs, simply start up the hose, squeeze the sprayer, and voilà--you've got a chemical spray with no mixing at all. Water hammer concern
I've got one of these installed.It works quite well.It's reasonably easy to program and does have a quick way to manually turn it on for a few minutes.

But the one thing that worries me is the water hammer it causes due to how quickly it shuts itself off.The valve closing causes a TREMENDOUS *bang* on the pipe.This can be solved by adding a water hammer arrestor but most require installation by a plumber.

I previously had this timer hung off a Gilmor Y-tee so as to easily attach a hose.This was a BAD idea.The water hammer is bad enough that it BROKE the plastic Y-tee.This happened, of course, when we where on vacation.A neighbor (or someone) kindly turned off the valve to keep it from spouting water all over the place but the lack of watering killed several flowering plants.So, be warned and DO NOT put anything that's not metal ahead of this timer.

This is the best timer for the money
This timer is easy to program, program review is a snap.It is reliable and the price is reasonable.

Poor valve design
Valve never did open, even when the timer indicated it was open. Removed the electronic portion to inspect how the valve actually operates and noticed that a pin about the diameter of a needle is connected to a diaphram. The pin is pushed down by knob protruding from the electronic portion to open up the valve. For some uknown reason this pin was sliding past the diaphram failing to open the valve. It looks very flimsy and appears that it even if it did work right the first time that after a number of openings and closings that it would wear out rather quickly. A great sprinkler for large areas
This is the only sprinkler I have found that is adequate for my front lawn. It covers about 100 foot diameter with enough water flow so I don't have to water for hours on end.

Before purchasing this sprinkler, make sure you have a good water source and are using the proper hoses. The instructions say to use maximum hose length of 100 foot of 5/8". I am using two Apex commercial-quality 5/8" 75 foot hoses (150 foot total)with metal fittings and my pump has a feed pressure of 48 psi when running the sprinkler. Works great! If you have low water pressure or inadequate hose then buy a lower-capacity sprinkler.

Problem With Gilmour 998FB
We have two Gilmour sprinklers, 998FB and 998ZS. Both have the same problem. They get stuck at one end of the range of coverage if water pressure is not at its peak. If you do not have consistently high pressure you might want to try another model. ... Read more

20 hours MTBF
Nice cast body - the only part that didn't break within the first 20 hours of use.First the nozzles don't keep their setting - pipe clamps fixed that.Then the wheels broke when it tried to pull 100' of hose (claims up to 200).Dremel tool, washers and cotter pins to put it back into service.Finally, the spinner fell out when the plastic retainer broke.Not sure how to fix this one.If I had paid $10 I would have paid too much.

John Deere Shouldn'tput name on Chinese Junk
made in China, this tractor has all sorts of problems, coverage is not as stated, plastic hose adpater, wands break with little force. Shuts off randomly, Gilmour states they are working on this. Customer Service is good. Overall, JohnDeere, Don't put your name on junky products.

20 LBS Connected by 1/16" Plastic
I couldnt hate this purchase worse, it arrived with the wheels disingaged required 1 hr repair, the spinning wands are so full of friction yu get 1/2 coverage, and the hose ultimately connects to 1/16 plastic , do the math. oh yea an the shut off valve on the undercarrige constantly shuts itself off, i had a melnor for 10 years was wonderful.,this one lasted 1 month and True value packed it like garbage ...
