Complete Control
If you are really, really serious about using a router table for dovetails, finger joints, and all the other milling operations that require high precision, you will want to own one of the Incra woodworking systems.My personal choice was the 'Super' system, which is an Ultra system like this in combination with the Incra Wonder Fence.The advantage to that model is the split fence, but it you aren't into turning your router table into a miniature joiner than this version will suit you fine for considerably less.

The heart of the system is the LS Positioner, which controls the fence from a rock solid center rather than from the ends as do most fence systems.The LS position locks into 1/32" increments, which can then be adjusted by 1000th's of an inch.This is more precision than a woodworker might ever need, but it is nice to have available.Also included as the Incra stop and the right angle fixture.With all of this mounted on the 28" fence you have a milling machine capable of exotic work.

The LS Positioner holds what Incra calls templets.These are plastic strips that come market with all the positions to cut a particular joint pattern.Something like sophisticated story sticks.There are places to keep five of these active on the Positioner - this is to minimize switching.I suppose the idea seems a bit corny, but Incra has bet their reputation on these templets, and they really do work.

Two notes of warning - Incra calls this a 16" jig, but the truth is that is takes nearly 30" of machine to give you that 16" cutting width.In all likelihood you will have to build an extension to your routing table.In my case I wound up adding 12 inches of draw.And you want this to be a solid extension, since the jig and fence weigh an appreciable amount.And the learning curve for a jig with this many adjustments is pretty steep (this isn't helped by a terse manual).Expect to do a bit of experimenting before you are getting the best results possible.

Great fence and joinery system
I have owned this fence / jig for about three weeks now and have used it to make several boxes and one case.It is simply great.Everything written about it is true - it is very stable and repeatable.I did purchase the new metal installation bracket that holds the system off of the back end of the router table (in order to free up additional room on the table and not give it up to the tool - download the owner's manual and look at the installation versus your router table to see what I'm talking about).In addition to reading through the manual, I also suggest that you purchase the intro video, which more simply walks you through the setup and usage of the tool.In short, well done Incra!

Excellent tool
I purchased this fence/jig because I just had to figure out how those outstanding double dovetails and box joints were made. I rec'd the jig within a week of my order. I have used the jig extensively on one of my router tables and it excells at every task I have put it through.

Initially, I installed the jig onto a router table with a shop made table insert, but the insert flexed ever so slightly and caused a slight misalignment of the dovetails. I cured this by building a seperate router table with no insert and just mounted the PC 690 base to the underside if the table. Since then, I can easily produce tight fitting dovetails in a matter of minutes, and highly decorative joints for all manner of small boxes in about 15 minutes, minus glue and clamp/sanding time.

I am absolutely satisfied and have helped another fried to discover the uses for this tool, he bought the twin linear a week later.

I have also used this at my table saw for ripping extremely thin lamination strips, and it allows you to move the fence after each cut, allowing you to cut from the outside of the workpiece, and to do this with precision to .001 or .002. I have proved this out with dial calipers and a micrometer.

I have not even begun to unlock all the potential of this tool, but if you want accuracy, and +/- 1/32 is not going to cut it, get this jig and amaze yourself and your woodworking friends.

Great router fence - complicated dovetails
I've owned one of these for about a year and a half and have cut some beautiful dovetails using this system.

Set-up is easy and explained well by the manual.Incramental adjustments are easy, and the positioner is rock-solid. You have to be very careful, because your stock may want to move in the middle of a cut when clamped to the right-angle feature.

Making dovetails: The templates are easy to follow, but require too many steps to set up.Adjustment and centering of your workpiece is critical, and cutting dovetails by incramental changes in fence position takes just too long if you have more than a couple to cut.I would rather spend the time to hand-cut the dovetails.After my initial few, I haven't used the dovetail function of this jig.

As a router table fence, this system can't be beat for the money.For the price of many standard router fences and a little modification, you can have tremendous functionality.The bit hole in the fence is too small, but with the t-slots on the front, you can attatch a second adjustable fence that you can make from MDF and laminate.Using 3" thick MDF covered with laminate as a second fence, I have even used raised panel bits.The ability to adjust the fence position at will is great.The fence is solid, stable, adjustable and a breeze to use.I tend to measure, but when you get the template guide zeroed in, you can simply set the fence where you want it using scale measurements.I wouldn't buy this as a dovetail jig alone unless you are VERY patient, but it is well worth its price for use as a router table fence.I use mine at least weekly and wouldn't trade it for any router fence system out there. Too pricey for the features
In general, products from Taylor design (Incra products) are well engineered and well made but are overpriced.You can pay far less for similar features in another fence or make your own for less.You cannot easily mount accesories to the intellifence such as featherboard hold-downs due the the lack of standard sized t-slots on the face of the fence. I actually mounted two hardwood boards the the faces in order to mount a t-track, greatly improving the usefulness of the intellifence.You shouldn't have to modify a fence.The bench dog fence makes much more sense and is cheaper.Would not buy it again.Build your own fence!(especially if you have a joiner to make a nice flat face)

Rock solid fence
I have owned the Intelifence for almost 1 year and it is one heavy duty, rock solid fence. Once set up and clamped down, it will not budge. This is a well thought out fence system with the ability to perform a variety of cuts. I especially like its edge joining ability. To be able to get an edge perfectly straight is priceless.

It also helps that the owner's manual is very detailed and well illustrated. If you want precision, time after time, this is the way to go.

Very Versatile System
I have not even begun to use all the capabilities of this fence.It is a really solid design and is not difficult to use once you read the directions.The extruded aluminum parts do not flex at all.

I haveused it for cutting moldings, rabbets, and with my Jesada 2" x3/4" diameter Flush Trim bit, as a light duty jointer.The offset iseasily adjusted by two screws in the fence face.

The only complaint Ihave is that the table clamping screws were about 1/16" too short togrip my table top.I remedied this by adding 1/4" thick strips ofwood to the underside of the table ends. ... Read more
