3-0 out of 5 stars A little too "quick" on the release
This product perfectly fit my system, going from the 4" hose to the 4" port on my tools. The adapter is quick and easy to install and forms a good seal.
The only 4" port on any of my tools is made of plastic. This adapter is made from a very hard plastic. While the hard plastic makes it very resilient to drops and abuse, it makes it very slick.Several times when the tool began to vibrate, the quick release, released and fell to the floor.I am going to wrap my tool's port with electrical or duct tape at the contact point to try and add some friction between the plastic on plastic connection.I think the adapter would hold better on a metal port, but I do not have any metal ports to test this theory.
In all fairness to this adapter, the 4" port on my tool is made of a very slick plastic.Wrapping the tip of the port with duct tape should eliminate any unintentional "quick" releases.

Editorial Review

So you've found an entire block of condemned Victorian houses, and the mayor has given you exclusive rights to the flooring in exchange for--oh, let's just say--a bit of support in his re-election campaign. With that still two years off, the only problem facing you now is removing the random pits, warps, and other blemishes of this salvage-lumber gold mine. For professional tasks that mock portable planers' capabilities, Jet's 15-inch enclosed-stand model gives you smooth surfaces as long as you keep it fed. Powered by a completely enclosed, 3-horsepower induction motor, it efficiently converts 230 volts into 13,500 cuts per minute at 4,500 rpm. The positive gear drive system adjusts depth quickly, and, with its smooth-cranking hand wheel, you can slice up to 1/8 of an inch off boards as large as 15 inches wide and 6 inches thick. Infeed and outfeed tables use three industrial steel rollers each to ensure smooth transfer from the planer's nonslip serrated intake all the way through the knives. You'll appreciate features like the smaller return rollers on top for handling large planks and the magnetic safety switch that prevents the machine from automatically turning on after power outages. Set on four heavy-duty, cam-lock casters, it easily rolls into position and stays where you place it. Go on and take the offer to gut those houses this year. --Justin Paul ... Read more

Features

  • Two steel work return rollers on top of the machine to make transferring your work back easier
  • Powerful 3 HP totally enclosed fan cooled motor, 3 v-belt delivers full power with magnetic switch
  • Steel feed rollers, serrated infeed and smoother outfeed, allow for 1/8" depth of cut
  • Cutterhead features jackscrews with springs to make knife adjustments easy and accurate
  • Exclusive 4" dust port angled to the side designed for efficient chip removal and to keep the dust hose out of the way of your work

4-0 out of 5 stars Only game in town
It is probably known to many woodworkers that virtually all the Taiwanese 15" planers are made in one factory, Chiu Ting. This is really a critique of the generic Chiu Ting planer design, which dominates its price niche.I have a JWP-15HO, purchased in the mid-90s, and I have rebuilt a Grizzly 20" Chiu Ting damaged in a shop fire.During the rebuild, the quality of the castings and machining impressed me greatly.Chiu Ting is a conscientious manufacturer.

The Jet gives a very good finish, virtually no snipe, the power of the 3HP motor is entirely adequate, the knife-setting gauge works well, and the owner's manual is good.Jet has a reputation for having a slightly better cutterhead design than some of its competitors, and that was the main reason I chose this particular brand. The knives are forced down against spring pressure by the setting jig, and then bottom out against elevating screws. We have all had the experience of knives squirming when we tighten the gib screws, and the Jet knives will do that, but at least only in one direction, up.It's not a perfect system, but better than most. The planer arrived in perfect condition, and set up at the factory so closely to specifications that I didn't have to change a thing.

The generic faults are these: one rotation of the elevating handle raises the table 5/64, which is nonintuitive for American woodworkers used to some even-numbered multiple of 1/8.Chip exhaust has to be quite powerful---I use a dedicated 700 CFM dust collector---and even then sometimes chips will fall ahead of the outfeed roller and dent the finished surface.Big chips easily wedge behind the bed rollers and will score the stock. The switch location interferes with hand access to one table lock, tho I have obtained good results not using the table locks at all. When the dust collector hood is attached, in order to access the cutterhead expeditiously, the outfeed return roller really has to be removed permanently.

Were I to purchase a Chiu Ting again, I would choose a brand with a polyurethane outfeed roller, and I would be watching for further improvements in the cutterhead ergonomics.Long-term, I am curious how these Taiwanese motors stand up, in particular the starter switches.I gave four stars because this machine needs attentiveness and resourcefulness to do the job. It's simply not in the same realm as an old Powermatic or Delta wedge-bed.

5-0 out of 5 stars For serious amateurs
All of the previous reviews here are accurate.I love mine and really appreciate having the extra set of blades.Manual is confusing in advising the use of 50 wt. gear oil after 25 hours of use. What they mean is transmission oil used in 4 wheelers or 4 wheel Drives. Blades are easy to set.Thickness gauge is useless.Get calipers, dust collector, and hearing protection.
Have two orthree friends to help unload the 500 lb. crate.Once on the ground and in place they can go home so you can be alone with your new friend.JET help line is very helpful and will bend over backwards to advise and make it right.Take the time to set it up correctly so you learn what all the adjustments can do.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy Setup
I reviewed both the Delta and the Jet.The main reason for deciding on Jet was how easy it was to access the blades. The blades are easily gotten to with "no motor in the way".Blades can easily be remove and replaced within 15 minutes, including setup. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff
Clear bags are the only way to go.I've now used about 20 of these bags. They seem heavy duty but you should treat them with kid gloves because they split open very easily. So, if you set a full bag next to your garbage can, beware. A little bump from something, anything, and suddenly you'll have a 6" gash in the bag. Also, I've received an order where 4 of the 5 bags had tears in them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very slippery
I love the clear view of what is in the bag so I know when to empty it. Saves a lot of mess, just tie and toss. However, I found that the bags are difficult to install because the bag kept slipping off the retaining ring when I tried to insert the ring into the housing. Finally resorted to a few pieces of duct tape to hold it and got it into place.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Handy
Made of "heavy duty" clear plastic. I like these clear bags because you know when the bag is full. Easy clean-up. Just remove the bag, tie it and toss. I would give them five stars if Jet gave you more bags for this price. ... Read more

Editorial Review

For people tight on shop space who already have a dust collector, this heavy-duty 12-inch disc sander for the benchtop is an ideal choice. It has a 1-horsepower, totally enclosed, fan-cooled motor. There's also a built-in impellor that aids in dust collection and a 4-inch dust port. For shops that don't already have a dust collector, or for people who can't ever seem to remember to hook it up for a quick sanding job, a dust collection filter can be purchased separately and added on. The sander has a hefty steel disc, with a manual brake for quickly slowing it down and stopping. You also get a generous cast-iron table that tilts from 90 to 45 degrees, along with a miter gauge and circle jig. All in all, this is a great sander at a great price that will provide a long life of service in your shop. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars solid tool
The first tool arrived in a box that looked like it had been to hell and back. The tool did not survive. It was promptly replaced.

I have been using it for a number of months. The plate is flat, properly aligned to the axis of rotation so there is no wobble. It is smooth and quiet. The table is solid and locks securely even under heavy load. The motor comes up to speed quickly and has more than enough power. The brake is adequate but I seldom use it. Dust is no problem with my 4" extractor.

I have only changed the disc once and found the Delta disc needs a little help to stay attached.

Overall I am quite happy with this sander.

4-0 out of 5 stars JetJDS-12B Benchtop Disc Sander
This is what a disc sander ought to be (Of course at twice the cost of the comeptition it BETTER be) I looked
at Harbor Freight, Grizzly, Delta, and Shop Fox before finally
deciding on this one. It costs a bundle, but is smoooooooth,
well constructed (weighs over 100lbs) and built to tight
enough tolerances that you actually are cutting what you intend
to cut. It is a pleasure to use. This machine is for the
semi pro to professional shop user. If you want a sander that
just grinds wood or metal, then go buy the Harbor Freight, or Grizzly, they cost over a hundred bucks less. However if you wanta machine that just sits there and hummmmmms, and quickly sands exactly where you apply the material then get the Jet.. It will outlast 3 of the "generic" Chinese sanders (Jet is also made in China, but in one of the most modern, well equiped factories in all of Asia)
My only quibbles are minor. One of the sanding plate adjustment
knobs was broken when I got it, it will be replaced.
Also the sanding disc that comes with the unit WILL ABSOLUTLY
NOT stick to the sanding plate. I tried using a heat gun, I
tried pushing, I tried saying very very bad words, nothing.
Fortunatly I had some good old Harbor Freight sanding discs
on hand....That is it in a nutshell. If you want the best
buy the Jet, ifyou dont want to spend the bucks, and will settle for a lesser machine then Harbor Freight, Grizzly, Delta,
and Shop Fox are out there waiting for you...

5-0 out of 5 stars Jet 708433/JDS-12B 12" Benchtop Disc Sander
I had originally planned to buy the Delta 12" Disc sander until I read in their catalog that that it could not be used to sand metal.Since I will be using it for both metal and wood, I began looking around for another option. To my delight, I found the new 12" Jet.Jet's sander is far superior. Not only does it have twice as much horsepower, but the motor is TEFC.This allows me grind metal when needed without voiding my warranty or damaging the machine.

The Jet weighs in at a beefy 100 lbs and has a very large cast iron table. It also has a 4" dust port with an impeller which really pushes the dust out of the it's port and an oversized on/off paddle switch w/key.

Most importantly, it runs VERY smooth and the 1 hp motor stands up under heavy infeed pressure.Fit and finish is outstanding as is the documentation.

As far as cons are concerned, I'll echo the previous reviewer regarding the filler strip.I'll likely shim the filler later although it doesn't seem to pose any immediate issues. This being said, I wouldn't let these small issues get in the way of purchasing this sander.

All in all, I think this is the best sander in it's class and would recommend it highly. ... Read more

Editorial Review

With this line of canister-filter dust collectors, JET has raised the bar on how clean shop air can be. To begin with, the new filter design captures particles as small as 2 microns, keeping even infinitesimally small particles out of the air you breathe. The best dust collectors in this price range in the past have never done better than 5-micron filtering--and that was after adding additional filters to existing systems. The V-weave design of the canister filter also yields greater capacity than the more common bag filter. Added filtering area allows for better airflow, so a clear plastic collection bag can be used without reducing the machine's 1,900 cfm. As a result, when the bag is full, you can tie it off and dump it rather than having to empty and reuse a dusty old cloth bag. Another feature we really appreciate is the filter cleaning mechanism. Turning a handle on the top of the filter rotates a cleaning flapper inside the filter, shaking loose dust and debris into the collection bag. Removing the filter and shaking it out or beating it is not required. This model has a 3-horsepower motor, comes with two canister filters on a stand with casters, has connections for up to two 4-inch dust collection hoses, and is a great choice for larger shop setups. --Brian Trinen ... I got this dust collector from Southern Tool and it really 'sucks' ( for some reason Southern Tool was shipping these units 2 weeks before anybody else. The new filters canisters clearly out performs the old bags. Being only 73" tall is another benefit, it will fit in everyones shop. The machine was easy to assemble. One of the filters had been dropped during shipping and had a dent which might cause leakage.I contacted JET and they promtly shipped me a new canister.I have nothing but positive to say about this machine! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars THIS ISPOORLY DESIGNED
I AM A HEAD PORTER SO I KNOW AIRFLOW.YOU WILL GET BETTER AIR FLOW JUST BENDING YOU HOSE.WHEN THEY SAY IT IMPROVES AIRFLOW THEY ARE WRONG AND HAVE KNOW IDEA WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT AND I WONDER IF THEY OWN PART OF THE COMPANY .THE INNER DIAMETER IS REDUCED TO 3 INCHES OR LESS BY A VERY SHARP CORNER SLOWING DOWN AND REDUCING AIRFLOW ALOT. IF YOU DO BUY THIS POORLY DESIGNED ELBOW. TAKE A FILE OR DREMMEL TOOL TO SMOOTH OUT THE RIDGE. THAT WILL INCREASE AIRFLOW ALOT.ESPECIALY IF YOU HAVE A WEEK DUST COLLECTOR YOU NEED TO.IT WILL ADD ABOUT 300CFM OR MORE AIRFLOW. THATS LIKE CAMPARING A 700CFM CARB. TO A 1000CARB.ITS A BIG DIFFERANCE.IF YOU DONT HAVE TO BEND YOUR HOSE AS MUCH AS THE ELBOW DONT USE IT. AIRFLOW IS MORE VALUBLE THEN LOOKS.ANYONE SAYING THERE ARE NO RIDGES IN THIS ELBOW WELL THATS A PLAN OUT (LIE)AND REDICULOUS. THIS WAS A HONEST REVIEW. GOOD LUCK

5-0 out of 5 stars Technicals
When installing a dust collection system, eliminating resistance to airflow is what it is all about. The ideal is as large a pipe as possible, flowing in a straight line, without any ridges in the surface. Of course in the real world at least some of these things wind up being less than ideal. What this Jet 4" elbow does, is give you a large pipe, that makes a gradual turn as opposed to a straight 90 degree angle, and the sides of the elbow are smooth. So when you need to make a turn with your air flow, this elbow does the nicest job.
The fit snugs neatly inside the standard 4" flex pipe. With some 4" Jet wire clamps which are also highly recommended over standard pipe-band clamps and this Jet elbow your all set for some hassle free collecting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good enough!
I attached this elbow directly to the intake port of my Jet dust collector. If you don't suspend your 4" hose from above, then using this elbow allows you to run the flex hose horizontally to a piece of equipment (also saving hose length). May not be completely necessary, but it does take the stress off the hose, especially if you move it around a lot. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars This is really an aggravation!
I ordered the the Jet Mini (not VS) and the bed extension in December, 2004. It took a while to get the extension, but I didn't mind that so much. I expected the extension to be of the same quality as the lathe. When it came, it was a piece of junk. The mounting holes were off about 3/32 of an inch from the machined holes in the lathe. After struggling to redrill the holes in the extension, I was able to mount it and it appeared flush, but then I found that the rails on the extension were thicker than the rails on the lathe. After about 2 hours of filing, I could force the tailstock and banjo across the intersection without unscrewing the nut on the cam lock, but the whole thing was and remains an aggravation. The fit and finish is awful. The paint is not even the Jet White, but some tannish white and the iron of the bed was almost black...looked like a totally different grade of iron. I called Jet and they sent me another but it had the exact same problems plus the packaging had been destroyed and in the process, the feet crushed and dings made in the rails. That one is still sitting in ths corner. Called them again. Then they tried to tell me that the extension was designed for the VS Mini and I needed to use an adapter kit ($14). I would not accept that since 1)the adapter kit was for older lathes that had not been machined to accept the extension and 2)the product description said (and still says):
"From the Manufacturer
The JET 708351B 10-by-14-inch mini-lathe...... This model is also machined on the tailstock end to accept the JET 20-inch bed extension, part # 708355."
They finally promised to "custom fit" an extension and send it to me. That was in February. It is now May and I have not seen that "custom fit" extension. If Jet makes this right and stands by their product, I will post a message to that effect and may buy a larger Jet lathe in the future. However, until that happens, I will not recommend their products.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jet Lath Bed Extension
I purchased the Jet 708355 Bed Extension to go with my Jet Variable speed lath and I must say that the quality exceeds my expectations! Right out of the box, following the instructions, WHAM! Perfect set up! No problem's here. Again, Hat's off to Jet for their great product's and to Amazon for such fast shipping (Recieved it in less than 36 hrs.)

3-0 out of 5 stars Not a typical JET experience for me
I had to return the first extension received as there was no way to "tweak" it satisfactorily.Second extension arrived a few days ago and is better, but still a problem to align with the lathe bed. I have spend a few hours trying to make it work smoothly, and have made progress, but this is frustrating.

I love the mini lathe, but the extension is not 100%.If you think you will ever want a longer bed than the 14" the Jet mini has, purchase on that comes that way. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A big winner
I've tried some other bench top spindle sanders and had to move up from a piece of junk that I've been using for the past couple of years.

I wanted a bigger table, smoother action from the sanding spindle, and a smoother surface to work on.Additionally, I wanted a dedicated tool on its own stand.I spend a lot of time at the spindle sander. I wanted a comfortable and rock steady station to work.

After looking at what was available, my choice came down to this unit and one made by Grizzly. After looking very closely at the pictures and manuals offered by both companies, I decided that these were very likely made by the same company in China. There are virtually no differences that can be determined.... except one.The Jet's table is rounded on the corners.I envisioned pemanent bruises on my hips from running into sharp corners of the Grizz.

I own several Jet and Delta tools.I like working with tools that are well finished, that have a surplus of power for the job, that have smooth and flat work surfaces, and look good.I have customers in my shop all the time, so appearances mean a lot.

So, for the looks and rounded top corners, I decided to spend the extra couple hundred for the Jet.I am not dissapointed. The work surface has been machined flat and sanded smooth. It has the nicest surface of any machine in my shop.

The unit came fully assembled. All I had to do was to remove the protective gunk that prevents rust from the table top and install the sleeves on the spindles. The manual is nicely prepared in B&W and has good pictures to illustrate the points being made. The manual is also pleasantly short yet covers all significant details.

The spindle action is smooth and quiet. There is plenty of power to quickly remove material but it is easy to control as well. The result is you'll have exceptional control when removing material. I hooked up my dust collection and with only 650 CFM, it pulls most all the dust very well.I'm very impressed with the operation of the tool.It is truly the nicest OSS that I've used.

The machine comes with a full assortment of different sized spindles of 60 grit paper.I practically never use 60 grit for my projects.I've found that sanding spindles are available from Southern Tool and from Grizzly.I've got some on order for the sizes and grits I use most.It also has a 4 inch spindle. This is great for sanding straight edges or large arcs.

One nit that I have is that there are two shelves for spindle storage, one mounted on each side of the cabinet. The holes in these shelves accomodate the smaller spindles well enough. But the larger spindles have large nuts on the bottom and don't fit in the smaller holes. They keep tipping or even fall out when I move the tool around.

Other than the silly thing with the spindle storage, I feel that this tool is of the highest quality. I am very happy with this purchase and highly recommend the tool for anyone who needs a spindle sander.

3-0 out of 5 stars Solid & Smooth, but some Quality Concerns
A two foot square smooth cast iron table top combined with a very smooth spindle makes this machine very easy to work with. I measured the spindle runout to be 0.004 inches maximum for all spindles, except for the 1/4 spindle that was 0.013.

My lower rating of only 3 stars is due to 3 quality issues. The top came with chemical stains, but was smooth and usable. I had to re-wire the switch... minor but should not have been required. And third, the table inserts are not flush with the table top. This can cause a piece of wood to catch as you are sanding with a resulting cup or glitch. Jet is sending me a new set of table inserts, but I have a feeling it is a poorly machined table top. I could easily shim the inserts, but for the price of the machine I expect it to be right and I want JET to know their quality control is slipping.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great not-so-little sander!
This machine is solidly built. It runs smoothly and does a great sanding job on all your curvy things. Despite a warning that it was on backorder and that delivery wouldn't be possible for many weeks, www.Amazon.com confirmed within three days that it had shipped! With the exception of the wooden pallet on which it was shipped (the pallet had been smashed to the point of almost being useless), the sander arrived intact and ready to go.It's heavy, so plan on having some help on hand at your end to assist with the unloading. It's top is ground flat and glassy smooth and provides ample support for any of the projects I'm likely to encounter at home. It's also square to the spindle which is always a plus. There was some spillage of the 90 weight oil from its reservoir during shipping (caused by the unit having been tipped too far, no doubt), and some missing or chipped paint from the backside of the base unit where the access door butts against it. Aside from these minor defects, I'm very pleased with the condition in which it arrived, and very happy with this choice in an oscillating sander. I doubt there's abetter one out there for the $. I've given this purchase only four stars for one reason only: www.Amazon.com does not sell replacement sleeves for this sander. The sleeves are not readily available in any of the local woodworking stores and I haven't figured out yet where I'm going to get them (perhaps the folks at JET can make a recommendation?). ... 4-0 out of 5 stars It Works
This is not a complicated piece of equipment, but an essential piece of equipment for a dust collection system. The ends were all 4 inches and the hose fit snuggly on the end, and the wire clamps held sercurely.Overall, a good link in the chain.

Based on the design and area to cover in the dust collection system, if possible, it is better to use the "Y" fitting rather than the "T".The Y connection allows for a better flow of air, more continuous, than the T.I used 4 Y's and 2 T's.The T's are in the corner of the shop. ... Read more

Editorial Review

These days, clean air is a must for any shop. JET's three-speedair filtration system is a great buy for a midsize shop, cycling allthe air in a 40-by-40-by-10-foot room up to 14 times in one hour.Unlike many of the competing products, JET's air cleaner comes with aremote control, allowing you to turn it on and off, or switch from lowto medium to high, from anywhere in your shop. (This is especiallyhandy if you mount your system to an out-of-the-way section of ceiling, where it might not be so easy to reach.) JET's air cleaner also has abuilt-in timer with settings of two, four, and eight hours. You canleave the system on and go to bed and it will turn itself off while yousleep. You'll also be pleased with how quiet this system is. Even whenset on high, the noise is comparable to that of a standard floor fanblowing through a living room. It's really just background white noise, and isn't a distraction at all. The system's three filters--anelectrostatic filter, the eight-bag inner filter, and the diffuserfilter--combine to remove 99 percent of all particles 5 microns in sizeand 85 percent of particles 1 micron in size. The end result is a shopthat's a lot healthier to breathe in, which lets you worry about moreimportant things, such as the woodworking project at hand. --JonGroebner ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't fit normal trash can!
I'm not sure what giant trash can this is designed for, but not any one you can buy at home depot. It is a constant hassle adjusting the lid so that you can maintain suction. As mentioned before attaching your hoses is pretty sloppy with lots of suction loss as well.I guess with some modifications it may work better, but if I'd wanted to make my own I would have do it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Bad quality
Concept is good and work OK but size is wrong and does not fit 20" can (overhangs it). Major problem, the entry and exit holes do are simply "holes"... no place to attach 4" tubing. You have to really imporvise to make these connections.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as pictured........
First off let me say that it works and that it does so pretty well. However.....the item is certainly not as pictured. The way it fits my 30 gal metal trash can reminds me of a little kid trying to walk in his/her parents shoes! Waaaay too big, overhanging each side by probably 6" or so. I finally had to bungee it on the can so that it would stay in place. As an earlier review noted, connection of the hoses is not that easy either. If you have the clear, wire-reinforced hoses you can thread them in like a screw. Otherwise you may need to add some sort of connector. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great and easy to install
This is such a great addition to the 14 inch Jet bandsaw that I'm surprised Jet doesn't just make it standard on all their 14 inch saws.I was able to install it by myself, and I'm an old guy.I rigged a rope from the ceiling to support the top arm of the saw, disconnected the bolt, and lowered it to the floor. After that, the installation goes very easy and straightforward.Putting the top arm back on was the opposite of taking it off, but be sure that you can tie off the rope so you can use both hands to tighten the bolt.

The only negative is the blade that ships with the riser block - it's not very good.Buy yourself a selection of Timber Wolf blades to use for resawing.

Having the extra resaw capability if really nice and increases the usefulness of the saw.I recommend this accessory.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worked for Craftsman with a few modifications!
I have the Craftsman 14" Bandsaw (22424), also made by Reliant? It's a great saw, 2 speed, 1.5 horse motor. Unfortunately, though it [wasn't cheap] less than the Jet, it also had a 6" throat depth, and for resawing planks or rounding corners to turn a bowl, this was just not useful for me. I found the Jet accessory, and with modification time, by myself, I had this thing installed in less than an hour.

In order to proceed successfully, you need a handheld grinder and a table grinder with a decent wheel. You'll notice that while you're installing the kit the instructions are a bit off. You will need to remove the switch plate, but not unplug it as you would on the Jet. You have to do this in order to get at the screw hidden behind it. You also have to remove the 4 screws and take off the lower door to get at the lower plate. You need to grind off (or drill for new) studs that hold the top assembly to the base. There are 4 to grind - the ones on the new spacer block and the ones on the old block. It's pretty apparent, and you have to grind only about a half-inch from the 3/8" studs for the block to fit.

Once it's together (balance the screwhead/washer _inside_ the block while you carefully place the top, it will catch and hold the top upright while you tighten), you'll have to grind a 1/16" or so tenon about 1.5 inches up from the bottom of the saw-foot support column. You'll see what it looks like once you get the old one off. Once that's together, you're set, and can saw away. Mine's been holding up for awhile, even though I worried about the stability with the little studs gone. It's fine, and saws through 10" rounds like they were butter. As everyone else said, get a new blade right away. You'll be glad you did. A 105" 1/2" 3TPI blade works wonders for resawing.

This is a great deal, and gives you a whole new saw. You'll love it! I wish I could give it 10 stars! For [not very much money], I feel like I have a brand new [top of the line] saw.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great addition....
If you do a lot of resaw or as in my case, make a lot of bandsaw box's this is a great addition. As other's have mentioned its a two person job, but the instructions and materials are top notch.I would also reccommend that you add Carter type guides to your saw at the same time. These really help with the resaw aspect and are a must for the small blades used in making bandsaw box's. The included blade wasn't much but I didnt think it would be, so no dissappointment there. The rest of the parts were good quality and everthing fit well. Took about twenty minutes to install and a few more minutes of adjusting. Thanks to the other reviewer for the tip on reinstalling the power cord. With a Timber Wolf 3/4" resaw blade I can now square up larger pieces of "firewood" to use for my bandsaw box's and it also enables me to get away from the 6x6 dimension that was my standard. I would reccommend this add on to anyone wishing to increase the size of material they can work with. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars What's the application?
The steel band clamp should only be used in one type of application. That being where you are putting two SMOOTH surfaces together, like a garden hose or radiator hose. But with a DC application of a ribbed hose, DO NOT use the steel band clamp, use the wire clamp.

The steel band clamp will only strip and never be fully seated trying to secure the wire rib.The steel banding is not designed to do that task.Whereas, the wire clamp will actually strattle the rib on both sides and create a perfect clamping fit.

I tried to save the twenty cents over the wire clamp, and wound up stripping the clamp thread on about 50% of the applications with the steel band clamps.I antied up and spent the extra cash and got the right product, the wire clamps for the ribbed DC hose.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't use them
Don't waste your time with these. I returned 60 of these clampsafter using 12 and found them to strip the thread very easily. Buy the wire clamps.

2-0 out of 5 stars slippin and a' slidding
I used both types of band clamps- steel band clamps and wire band clamps- with the ribbed hose in my dust collection system. The steel band clamps slipped more, were harder to control going on and didn't seat as well as the the wire band clamps ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars To buy or not to buy? Is it worth it?
This 3" spindle assembly is substantially larger, and heavier than the standard spindles which comes with the Jet Benchtop Osciallating spindle sander. The advantage to having a larger drum is that it creates a flatter surface where the crown meets with the wood. That creates a smoother surface on larger pieces. The smaller spindles that come with the unit, range from the 2" on down to the smallest ones, which are great for getting into smaller corners etc, but on a large flat or gradual curved surface they can create dimples in the surface if you don't keep the material moving.
Is the 3" spindle neccessary? Not really, with a careful technique, you can accomplish it with the smaller spindles, but it definitely makes it easier. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes Your Benchtop Sander Work Like a "Floor Model"
This kit gives you a whole different range of capability with your Jet sander.Take this kit, put your sander on a stable tool stand, and then pat yourself on the back for the money you saved by not buying a floor model sander. With this kit, your sander tackles a much broader range of tasks.

When sanding smooth, flowing curves (like the curvature in a bandsawn box, for instance), the added diameter of this piece keeps the sander from gouging troughs in your workpiece.

I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars jew xacta cabinet saw
The saw is awesome. I had some concerns from reading the other reviews, expecially pertaing to shipping damage, wrong pieces, poor manuals, etc. However I found all the manuals to be satifactory, not exclent but more than satisfactory, all pieces fit together nicely, however there were a few fasteners that were a lottle bit different than those described in the manual, but nothing that effected the final product- specificaly there were some bolts that held the tube that the fence rides on that were hex head bolts on my saw, but were shown to be flat head screws that would fit into countersinks in the rail- causing only a very minor cosmetic change. The palet that the saw came on had a retaining rim that fit tightly around the base of the saw and caused some very minor scuffs around the base. Again very minor, no one but me has even noticed them. Now to the shipping pain in the butt. I ordered the saw online and was estimated to recerive it in 2 weeks, after 3 weeks I got a shipment delay statement, and then 2 weeks later a cancelation statement. I then called the tool customer support line. They were very helpful, I would recomend calling to reorder from them, instead of online. The saw has gone up $500 since I ordered it and they honoerd the price at the time I ordered it, as well as shiping direct from the manufactuer. When it got to my freight dock there was a freight charge due, anoter call to the customer support took care of this problem too. I was out no money through the whole shipping ordeal, just frustration. Over all I would buy it again from Amazon, the price is the best anywhere, if I bought it localy I still would have paid freight, sales tax, and had to wait for delivery. The Saw is Awesome, Period.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Tool
I just finished assembling this saw and making some test cuts and I have to say it's a great piece of machinery!Should provide a lifetime of fun projects. Here are my likes, dislikes and some helpful hints from my experience:

Likes:
Fit & Finish are great. All parts arrived in good condition. All hardware was included and assembly went smoothly.Instructions were good (some pictures), and in logical order. However, since the saw, fence, rails, table, cabinet and lift all come separately (5 boxes), each has it's own instructions - you have to figure out the overall order - pretty intuitive (I'll cover later).Great Power - a little noisy but that's the price of having a real powertool.Alignment was good out of the box.Fence action is smooth and locks solidly.Good adjustability on all parts.Using saw with Forrest WWII and it cuts like glass - see all the Forrest reviews - they're true!

Dislikes:
Plastic legs on cabinet are flimsy but functional.Since I'm using with a ShopFox mobile base, I'll end up making my own legs to fit the base extension anyway.

Watch out - Amazon free shipping ain't so free.Since this thing is 450lbs you will need to make arrangements with shipper - Amazon doesn't.Unless you're Arnold Schwarzenegger, you'll want to arrange for a truck with a liftgate and pallet dolly. While I'd think that after spending this much on a tool Amazon/Toolcrib would cover the *appropriate* shipping, my shipper (ABF Freight) ended up being cool and arranged to do so for free. Thanks to them :)

Assembly Recommendations:
Order of Assembly - 1)Saw/Extension Wings, 2)Fence Rails, 3)Cabinet (so you can set the tabletop on the cabinet to level it), 4)mountExtention Table to fence rails, 5) screw cabinet to tabletop, 6) Fence Guide/Fence/Blade Guard, 6) cabinet door/external shelf, 7) Router Lift

You have to wire the plug (220v - 20A)

WARNING - If installing the table shelf between the cabinet and the saw, double-check the template that is supplied (last page of manual). If I hadn't checked it by assembling the shelf with the mounting brackets and screws and holding it up to the saw, I would have ended up drilling 4 holes in my new table saw that resulted in a crooked/unlevel shelf (by 1/2")

Don't use the screws in the plastic door handle on the cabinet as the instructions suggest - just glue it in.The screws are too close to the surface and split the melamine face on the door

Be careful tightening the screws holding the fence guide to the front fence rail - I stripped one of the 5 even though I wasn't overtightening.

That's it.All in all I'm very pleased.Looked at Jet, Delta, DeWalt.Went with the Jet - felt I got more for the money compared to Delta and a higher performing tool compared to DeWalt, but was a little apprehensive of quality compared to Delta from other reviews. However, now that I have it, I can heartily recommend/endorse JET - any fears appear to be unfounded. Also have the JET air filter and 1100CFM dust collector and they're good too. After years of using an old radial arm saw for all my projects, my shop is off to a good start. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
Awesome. Jet is the way to go! High quality and great performance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super machine.
Great piece of equipment.Very solid piece of top-notch equipment that operates quietly and vibration free. The direct-drive unit delivers plenty of power (especially when wired for 230 V) and has no belts to slip, adjust or wear out.The built-in dust collection with a single 4" connection make hooking it up to a dust collector a simple operation.

The sander weighs over 200 lbs., so have a friend or some good lifting equipment available for unpacking and assembly.

The closed cabinet base is very nice and has a much smaller footprint compared to an open stand. If you plan to move this unit, I recommend removing the installed wheels and brakes and put it on a mobile base. The no-swivel wheels are not much use unless you plan to move the sander in straight lines only. The wheels also narrow the base support enough to make the unit slightly unstable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice
I recently recieved this sander. The enclosed base is nice- good storage for the tables and extra discs/betls. Its very nice- lots of power, the spring loaded belt tension arm is a nice touch, although the tracking adjustment requires attention more often than other sanders I've used - it does the job though. The dust collection works pretty well, the miter gauge isn't very accurate, but for normal wood-working it should suffice. Nice machine, my second Jet tool. ... Read more
