solid clamp
I just received this clamp and have not had a chance to use it yet,however if it clamps anything like it feels it should be great.As an amatuer woodworker, I own several other smaller clamps and some 'pipe' clamps. Triffle large, get the 3's before this set.
These clamps have been around for ever. Any good woodworking shop has a pile of them. Get them in pairs at a minimum and get a variety of sizes you won't be sorry. They'll last your lifetime and longer.

Oh yeah the other dimension you need to know is the distance from the tip to the middle spindle on this clamp is 8 inches.

A must have clamp in any woodshop
There are many imported wood hand screw clamps out there but they don't come close to the quality of a Jorgensen hand screw clamp.I own many, some are quite old, and I'll most likely pass them on to my grandchildren.These clamps have incredible holding power and will clamp non-parallel surfaces, too.The wood consruction of the clamps allows me to incorporate them into jigs where needed.They are excellent for fine woodworking as they will not mar the wood like metal clamps.

Good clamp for some applications
Over the years I've purchased many styles & types of clamps for a variety of uses.These aluminum bar clamps are wonderfully lightweight and can effectivly be used in a variety of applications.However, I would not consider these to be a mainstay in any clamp collection.

These clamps are great for both price & performance, but because the bar is aluminum they do bend as pressure is applied which renders them useless in certain circumstances such as glueing up frame and panel doors or flat panels.For these operations nothing will ever replace super heavy duty steel 'I' beam or box beam clamps for reliability and long service life... but building up a collection of these takes a great deal of money.

If your buying clamps forget pipe clamps (although we all start out with them because of price) and consider buying a few of these instead.They are a worthy tool for the price but I would never consider buying them longer than 48".

have plenty
One of the essentials when setting up a shop. You need multiples of all sizes. The Jorgensen along with the Pony pipe clamps are my favorites. They are easy to set up and use, they hold the piece tight and with the rubber pads they don't mar the wood. They also make a 24" and above with a ratcheting system (very nice). You can't go wrong with Jorgensen.

Bigger is Better
I would just recommend that if you are considering buying this to consider the 24 or 36 inch versions instead. I purchased this along with the others, and then realized that if I have one of the larger clamps that I have no need for the 12" clamp.

The larger clamps can do the same job as this one plus more.

Best buy in clamps
These clamps can be used for almost anything and they are my favorite for edge gluing just lay them on their side and alternate them one above and one below tightening them up two at a time. I can get some really nice glue ups with them. The 24 being my favorite size. Their less money than the others so it's easier to buy a lot of them. But I also like bessy tradesmen and have found the 4 by 8 to be very handy. My pipe clamps now are collecting dust and I only use them when I need a really long clamp.

Good Enough!
I disagree with...negative review on this product. These clamps are strong enough for most lightweight to medium duty work. Use pipe clamp if you need heavy duty work. This is a lightweight clamp and is much easier to use compared to heavy pipe clamps. Every tool has its limitation. I am happy with my purchase....

Narrower Bar = Weaker Clamp
Of course, you get what you pay for, but the Bessey version of this clamp (at about $3 more) has a much larger bar and can apply a great deal more pressure. The bar on this clamp bends considerably, but if you are doing primarily light clamping it should not be a problem. Great clamp - Only available from the Tool Crib
I have used these clamps and have about thirty of them ranging from the 36" ones to 72".I needed more and had a difficult time finding them until I tried the Tool Crib.I wont use any others for my work. They are light and easy to manage.The only improvement I would recommend is more notches for adjustment than the standard one per inch.Great clamps!

Lightweight clamp -- great results
I have and use 12 of these aluminum clamps.They don't get stickey from glue, or rust and discolor your wood project.They are intended for normal glue-ups, which means that you start with good-fitting joints.If anyone is having trouble with binding or sticking of the clamp parts, they have been exceeding the intended uses of this tool.Very few "bar" type clamps are rated for bending wood, or wood laminations into a form.These clamps excel when doing edge-to-edge glue-ups, a process that can suffer from too great of a clamp pressure.Use these clamps for your next cabinet project, you won't be sorry ....

Terrible Clamp
I own a lot of clamps and this is the worst built clamp I have ever seen.When you turn the screw to remove the clamp, the screw comes loose from the jaws, and the jaws stay clamped with noway to remove them except to pry or beat them loose. Good for jewelry work
I am very pleased with how well this little vise works. I make silver jewelry and this was one of the few vises I have found with smooth clamp faces. I use it to draw wire, make bends and hold pieces for detail work. It is solid enough for some heavy hammering-on, and the screw is precise and smooth in operation. A very well-made tool.

World's strongest clamp
If you need a tremendous amount of pressure, this is the clamp.The tightening handle is no-nonsense.I dropped one of these clamps, and put a nice big chip in the concrete floor.

I have one beef with these beefy clamps.The jaw on the clutch side is not parallel to the jaw on the screw side.It becomes parallel as you tighten the screw.I love to use these clamps on butcher block glue-ups.The problem is that sometimes the jaw on the clutch side causes your boards to slip when you are tightening.I usually use a couple speed or F clamps first, then get the jaws of death on it. ...
