Of all the mobile bases we've seen, this is the king. The sturdy corner brackets, wheels and casters, foot pedal, and all the hardware are supplied; you supply the hardwood. We like this deal because you make the stand to fit your needs, all the way up to 30 by 30 inches and 300 pounds of load if you build your rails of oak. In a small shop or a garage shop that has to accommodate your cars, put together a couple of these and roll your tools out of the way when you're done working. With other bases we've looked at, you have to tip up your tool and waddle carefully. With this Delta, just unlock the foot pedal, engage the third-point caster, and you're off. The wheels and casters are quality, and they move like a dream. We wouldn't limit use to just tools--this base could come in handy for moving appliances, too. Better engineered than the saw I bought
Looked at all the options, including building my own lift-jack contraption, and decided on this one for my new Delta TS350 Table Saw.I think it's great.

The instructions were a little vague on one point:You take the length and width measurements of your tool and then add 1/2" to BOTH to determine the lengths of your wood pieces.Also, and it says this in the manual: be sure to allow clearance for the wheels at the end of the wood.I was 1/8" off and had to remove four bolts to cut the wood shorter, not a big deal as it was past the bolt holes.

I used a drill press to drill the holes and ended up drilling a bigger hole than I thought I needed, in order to get the alignment thru the brackets.The bolts are 5/16", so I tought a 11/32" would be enough, but ended up drilling 3/8" holes.I used hard maple 2x2s, scrap from another project.I should have chamfered the corners slightly as that would have made for a better fit.

I also used a 12" c-clamp in places to flex the sides of the brackets where they wrap the wood to get the bolt thru and threads started.And I got to use my air ratchet for the first time since I bought it a year ago.

Hope these assembly tips help, and I recommend this mobile base for just about all spplications.

barely works on my floor
The is a great idea and basically serves the purpose I needed out of it.But I must say that I am disappointed.The caster wheel only lifts the rubber feet up about half an inch.This is fine if your shop floor is perfectly flat.But mine is not - it has a sloped curvature that leads into a drain.So the rubber feet drag a little whenever I roll the machine near the drain.Sometimes I feel like I'm dragging the whole thing with the "mobile base" providing minimal assistance.Again, this is probably not a problem if your shop floor is perfectly flat.I can probably jury rig it somehow with a little thought, although I am busy on so many other shop projects at the moment.

Oh yeah - assembly was quite an ordeal.The product itself is simple enough and the instructions are fine, but keep in mind that you are probably dealing with a heavy piece of equipment.The instructions have you lifting and moving your equipment on and off the base several times for measurement and fitting, which is not fun if you're working alone.I suggest you either have a few friends around, or think intelligently about how to tilt your equipment on and off the base without hurting your back.

Good if you need a custom footprint light-duty mobile base
I did not see the reviews when I bought this as it was an accessory I saw next to the Delta table saws when I bought my 10" Delta TS at Lowe's on sale a couple weeks ago. I did not find buying exact dimensioned wood hard other than stomaching the cost of four-square surfaced oak at Home Depot prices. For my saw base which measured about 28" by 26" at the feet I appeared to need four2x2 ~30" length pieces and decided to use oak for strength/stability. They sell these for about $10 a piece at the local Home Depot by me, so the net cost of the base doubled to nearly $100. Still, it's a very solid thing and should hold up fine. I also happened to buy a 2nd base a Shop Fox G7314 which costs about $70 and requires no additional wood when I bought my Grizzly 14" band saw a week or so later at the Bellingham, WA store, so I can compare those two products. The Shop Fox doesn't require additional wood or marking or drilling. It's all pre-drilled and metal and takes maybe an hour to assemble - the Delta base took me 2-3 hours to completely assemble, including some hard tamping with a hammer to get the carriage bolts threaded through my not totally precisely aligned 5/16" holes in the wood (by the way the directions tell you to drill 7/16" holes but the included hardware make it obvious that they must mean 5/16") and a 2nd trip to Home Depot for wood. If you have 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" squared wood close at hand and need a really odd or custom table, this base for $50 is a good deal. But this base doesn't come with lock washers like the Shop Fox does and I wonder how long before I need to do something about the hex nuts through the rails starting to loosen and come off (if they do maybe I'll just slip a little epoxy in the threads and reseat them - ain't enough space on the bolt to space a lock washer anyway.) The Shop Fox is heavier duty and it accomodates the dimensions of the tool stand/table you are mounting on it and need the heavy duty (400 lbs - 600 lbs load), it's IMHO a better fit for most large tools/cabinet stands and comes with lock washers space for them on the bolts. The one thing I like here is the convenience of the foot pivot brake release. The Shop Fox uses a dual adjusting knob on each of front swivel casters that you have to bend down and loosen /tighten each time you want to lock / unlock it from fixed base position. I might check out the HTC2000 or possibly the one that General if I can find it somewhere else as those seem like kind a "best of both worlds" hybrid possibilities for what I liked best about this one (the foot brake) and the Shop Fox (fast assembly, flip lock brake, all metal pieces included, no additional wood or drilling time needed). ... You need this for your Unisaw.
If you own a Unisaw in a small shop, you need this mobile base. Very easy to assemble, seems very sturdy. Nice finish-seems to be powder coated. I modified mine to fit a shorter than normal right side extension table, since I fitted the saw with a Biesemeier Homeshop fence and leg set(which I got at a good price from a local supplier). It makes moving this machine easy, although somewhat awkward,until you get used to "driving" it. I will be buying a similar base for my Delta 14" bandsaw also.

Would only make one change
This base took about 20 minutes to put together.And that includes five minutes for bandaging my finger after cutting it on one of the staples from the box.The saw fits perfectly, of course.It did require me to reposition the legs for the side extension, as the base was narrower then I originally had the legs.

One item that I like about the HTC base that this doesn't have is the ability to change the position(s) of the fixed wheels.I have a tight spot between my bench and the garage wall that I'm sliding this saw into and the positioning of the fixed wheels requires me to come in at an awkward angle and move three other tools to have enough room to swing the table around.That's why I only give it four stars.Otherwise, a top notch accessory. ... Not a good fit for my band saw
I bought the Delta 28-206 14" enclosed base band saw, and the Platinum accessory package which included the 50-274 mobile base.There were instructions on how to assemble the base, but not on how to attach it to my band saw.It looked like it was supposed to replace the 4" thick base that came with the saw, but it didn't fit.It was about a 1/4" to narrow for the band saw base to fit in it.I solved it by putting the regular base back on, and drilling holes in it to bolt the mobile base to the standard base.With 8 bolts holding it in place it is solid enough, but its about 4 inches higher than normal.Since I'm a tall guy its not a problem for me. The mobile base is still a great idea though.I have a standard 2 car garage for a shop, so the ability to move my stuff around is really important.This base works like a dream.I'd recommend it, just be aware you may have to do a few modifications to mount your equipment.

This mobile base does NOT FIT the new Delta 14" 28-206 BSaw
It's a great and well made base but unfortunately it does not fit (despite its description of "fits all Delta 14" bandsaws) the new Delta 28-206 bandsaw. You could make it work by bolting a square of plywood to the mobile base then attaching the saw to that. Kind of a pain.

Protecting your valuable woodworking machinery
A couple of years ago, I experienced a water line leaking above my Unisaw.By the time I discovered the leak, the cast iron table top and extension had started to rust. I immediately got a Delta Mobile Base to move the saw. I have been so pleased with the setup that I decided to purchase a mobilebase for the 14" band saw.My bandsaw is an older model without theblack metal casing at the bottom of the enclosed stand.Despite thesmaller dimensions of my bandsaw at the bottom, the fit in the mobile baseis good, although I may add some 1" lumber (thickness) around thebottom perimiter of the stand to create a tighter fit.The foot lever forelavating the base is easy to operate and when engaged, the base easilyrolls on two wide wheels.When stationary, the base is very stable.Whether you need a mobile base due to limited shop space or as a means forprotecting your equipment from overhead water lines, I strongly recommendthis base - even for older Rockwell/Delta woodworking equipment. ... Perfect Fit

One of the best accessories for your Unisaw

Must for small shop
Just the best device to move your equipment.
With out them I could not have the machines because there would not be enough room in my basement shop and I do not wish to heat another space.
They are over priced for what they are but to some of us a necessity. Good quality and function.

A Great Accessory
After using my Delta saw and 30" Unifence with the 50-277 mobile base for a few months, I was concerned about having the extension table simply suspended above the floor while I moved the saw. It worked, but it was certainly not elegant. Worse, when the table legs were lifted off the floor and then thumped down when the base was lowered into position, it looked as if the resulting torque and impact eventually might do some damage.

The Delta 50-285 solved the problem beautifully. Assembly was very straightforward, taking about twenty minutes.

Now, moving the saw is easy and--most imporatant--the entire assembly is completely supported by the steel understructure.

There is nothing fancy here; it is a marvelous low-tech answer to the challenge of having this indispensable power tool easily and securely transportable in a small shop space.

Stand barely fits
I would not recommend this mobile base. The planer stand barely fits, the legs are 1/2" off of the base. Also there is no way provided to attach the stand to the base. It would seem to me that this base is made for a different application, or the engineer that designed it never attempted to put the stand in the base. At a price of nearly $100.00 I expected a much better fit. Personally I would recommend puchasing a universal base at around $50.00 and making it fit. Poor description
Same as previous.36-680 does not fit on this base.I hade to go and but a universal base and will be shipping this one back.

Does NOT fit 10" Contractor's Saw
I ordered the Delta 10" Contractor's Saw (36-680) and this base to go with it. Both Amazon and Delta's websites say this base fits 10" Contractor's Saws- total BS. The base of the saw is 25" x 28", the mobile base measures 25.75" x 23.25"... waaaaay too small. Now I have to hassle with the repack & return in order to get one that fits. And all this after having to wait nearly 3 weeks for delivery in the first place...

Delta Base for Craftsman 10" Table Saw - excellent
Beautifully designed, simple to set up, this mobile base is strong and maneuvers nicely. Had I known how great this is and the mobility it provides, I would have ordered it years ago.
Took less than 5 minutes to assemble, (one bolt) then was able to tilt my HEAVY saw (without assistance) to place the Delta mobile base under the feet of the table legs.
One observation... the foot pedal will stay in the "roll" position ONLY after the saw is on the base. Hard to believe how they did this and just how simple and effective this unit is.

Worth the money
I put all of my machines on mobile bases, and have had mixed luck with various manufacturers.By far my best experiences have been with the bases made for specific machines.They're a cinch to get together and start using.This one was no exception.Its very sturdy and with a good push you can jump on your DJ-20 and surf it down the driveway (just kidding).It isn't the one shown in the picture here (obviously a joiner won't fit on that) but it is better- with a foot pedal for lifting/lowering.Highly recommended.

Top Quality Base
All of my shop machines are on mobile bases.Some are home-made but the heavy pieces like the DJ20 jointer are on Delta bases.Like the other Delta bases, this is top quality.I had some initial concerns about putting this heavy jointer on a mobile base, but I am very pleased that I did.The mobile base moves the jointer very easily across some oversized garage floor expansion joints. You can't go wrong by purchasing this base.

If you have a DJ20 you need this base
I have several machines on Delta mobile bases. After discovering how well they are made and how well they work when I got my first one with my Unisaw, I don't even think twice now when I buy a new machine, I always getthe Delta base to go with it.I just got a DJ20.This is one big, heavyjointer.It's about 475 lbs, about the same as a Unisaw, but this jointeris very long and possibly awkward to move.But my DJ20 is really easy tomove and manouver around my small shop using this base.One Hint: whenyou set up your jointer, place the cabinet in the mobile base first, beforeyou but the jointer assembly on th cabinet. ...
