5-0 out of 5 stars Old trim man
I use these guns daily as a trim carpenter.Have not found
any other gun that matches the Hitachi in durability and
reliability.Seem to have a little more power than all the
Taiwanese guns out there. These things are bulletproof!

2-0 out of 5 stars for this kind of money, I want more
If you like to go back and set every nail by hand, buy this gun and leave the no-mar tip on.If you don't mind going back and "Bondoing" all the snakebite dimples on either side of every neatly set nail, buy this gun and take the no-mar tip off. If you like going back over your work to wipe up the lube oil vented through the uni-directional top cover exhaust vent, buy this gun, get yourself a rag, and get used to the smell of solvent.Don't get me wrong, I really like the other four hitachi products I use on a daily basis and there are several hitachi products that I look forward to purchasing in the future.Maybe my expectations are unrealistic....Nah!Hitachi erred egregiously in omitting an adjustable vent port and a variable depth adjustment push lever (nose or tip) from this model. Both features appear on other guns that cost half as much.So what if these other guns last half as long, buy two and improve the quality of your work while saving yourself some aggravation. (What I have referred to as a 'no-mar tip' is actually a "nose cap".While it protects most materials from damaging dents, it will leave a marring skidmark.)

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST VALUE I FOUND ON FINISH NAILER!
Great buy for me.I originally did not want to purchase this tool, however, the salesperson convinced me to a 30 day trial. So, what the heck let's test Hitachi (free gun for awhile).I never looked back. This gun is great!Power, lightweight, new quick clear, close spots, etc... I amvery happy as you can tell. ... Editorial Review

Some building codes require full-head nails. This Hitachi framing nailer supports full, round-head, coil-wire-collation nails from 2 to 3-1/4 inches. It's a well-balanced tool that feels good in the hand, and it weighs only 8 pounds, so user fatigue is less than it is with other heavier framing nailers. The handle is slim and ergonomic, and the rubber grip is a nice touch that enhances the tool's comfort level. The Hitachi has one of the more aggressive tips of any nailer, which means the tip features prominent spikes to grip material for toe-nailing. (There's a plastic no-mar tip cover available for finish applications.) The open nose makes cleaning simple jams easy, but for tough jams you'll need to undo a hex screw to release the magazine. Hitachi pneumatics are known for their reliability and relatively low maintenance requirements, and this nailer features the same simple and efficient components that have built Hitachi's stellar reputation. The bottom line? The Hitachi full-head nailer makes a user-friendly, dependable, and sturdy addition to any professional's tool arsenal. --Mark McDonald ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for shop work, but
for working overhead, or on staging or framing on the jobsite, it's a bit more awkward than a similar stick nailer. Changing nail sizes is a tedious little business, can't be done easily while up on a ladder, for instance, with different coils and different magazine settings while a few clips of stick nails fit easily and quickly in the nail bags. Coils are easily bent or bumped on a busy job, which makes them quite difficult to fit into the nailer. Get the stick version instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best gun... period
I purchased this gun about a year and a half ago. I have waited to give my opinion for some time due to the fact that I use this gun constantly, and wanted to see how this gun would preform over an extended period of time before making a recommendation.

This gun has never, ever, let me down. I am in construction and the Hitachi NV83A is my best friend. Sure the gun would periodically jam here and there, open the front loader and remove the nail, end of story. This thing is so durable and honest that it is a pleasure to pick up.

If you are contemplating buying a framing gun... I strongly recommend the Hitachi NV83A.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hitachi NV83A Full Head Construction Coil Nailer
I work with this gun in South Florida and it is the best gun I have ever used. The specs say this gun holds 2" to 3 1/4" nails, but it also shoots 1 1/2" case hard nails into concrete like a real pro. 2 1/4" case hard nails also work very well. Down here we have all concrete block exterior walls and do quite a lot of furring to attach drywall to. This is the best of about five different makes I have used over the past 20 + years. AAAAA++++ rating. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Siding gun gets thumbs up in New England
This gun is a work horse. I've used one of these guns for five years, and it's only needed to have its seals changed once. This gun has gone through sun, rain, mud, and snow. It is light, easy to reload, and nail placement is easy to locate. I've used this nailer on cedar and masonite siding, as well as cedar shingles and douglas fir decking. The only thing that I can comment on the negative is that the plastic links on the coils are very tempermental in the cold. The plastic links tend to break in freezing conditions (32 degrees or below). Otherwise a great gun. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good tool, some misunderstanding about nails
This tool is as good as any other Bostich... which is pretty good, especially at the very reasonable prices they go for used. The issue raised about the nails relates to the 21 degree angle of the magazine; almost every other manufacturer - and other Bostich models - use a 16 degree slant. If you have a reliable supplier of nail coils, go for it.If not, or if you plan to be on the road a lot and hunting supplies in strange places, getting something a bit easier to feed might be smart.

5-0 out of 5 stars A well designed finish nailer
I just bought this nailer and have found it to work well.To get an idea of its capabilities, I tried to sink 2 1/2 inch finish nails into a stack of solid quartersawn oak scraps.Air pressure was about 90 psi.It flush nailed one time, but the other three or four times about 1/4 inch of the nail remained exposed. There was also quite a bit of recoil. However, when I switched to 2 inch long nails, it counter sunk them effortlessly in the quartersawn oak with no recoil.I can't think of any situation when I'll be nailing against the grain of 2 1/2 inches of oak, so my test probably doesn't reflect real world situations. It can easily sink a 2 1/2 inch nail through 1 inch of oak with softwood lumber backing.Since the nailer is rated to 120 psi, it might have been able to countersink a 2 1/2 nail into 2 1/2 inches of solid oak if I had given it more than 90 psi, but I didn't test that.

I've used the Bostitch angled finish nailer at work and like it too.The Hitachi seems a little more powerful than the Bostitch though. The Bostitch flush fired a 2 inch nail into solid quartersawn oak whereas the Hitachi countersunk that nail.Since the Hitachi uses the same nails as Senco and Porter Cable, a greater selection of nails (both in terms of lengths and quantities) is available.

I don't mind lubricating the Hitachi with oil and haven't observed it sending any onto work surfaces.I'm in the habit of lubricating my nailers and staplers, but if you'd rather not bother with pneumatic oil, then the Bostitch may be a better fit for you.Either way, you probably can't go wrong.

Update (1 month later): Our Bostich finish nailer at work has been constantly misfeeding nails recently, so I've switched over to using my Hitachi in all situations, except when I don't have the right size nail on the jobsite for it.Then I resort to the Bostich and adjust the nail feeder before firing each nail: it's tedious.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fulltime Finish Carpenter
I currently run four Hitachi, three Senco, and two Max finish nailers. The Hitachi NT65MA is the best nailer I have. It is very light with minimal recoil. It has enough power to sink nails in maple effortlessly. It is stone cold reliable- it has never broken a driver after four years of fulltime use. The safety works well without marring. It shoots the Senco DA series (also UA) nail which has become the defacto industry standard. Hitachi appears to have spared no effort in designing and building the best 2 1/2" finish nailer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Saves time and makes me more money
I have been a general contractor for years. Gone are the days of leaving the job site and having the wind rip off my felt. I have spent nights wondering if my tarps or felt are going to blow off during a storm. This gun shoots down the buttons with great ease. The buttons seem at first to be expensive, but the time saved especially in windy areas makes it worth wild. The only recommendation is keep the gun clean and well lubricated. It has been my experience, you need to keep the buttons from getting damaged or wet. Furthermore, if the buttons get to hot, the tape holding them together tends to stick to the nose and inside track. All in All, I will buy another when needed.....

Editorial Review

Many power tools are not designed with protection and consequently spend their lives getting bumped around on the job site. Hitachi's coil roofing nailer is an exception. This nailer has two metal plates, or what Hitachi calls Steel Body Wear Protectors, at the back and front of the machine that act as bumpers to protect the tool's condition and extend its life--which makes sense, when you think of the beating a roofing nailer is subjected to. No question about it, Hitachi's NV45AB is a good gun. We like the way the nailer fires, the guide plate that helps keep nails flush, and how the rubber safety valve in the nosepiece keeps debris out. The grip's great: it's wrapped around the handle and made of a porous rubber that really sticks to your hand so you don't have to worry that sweating will take a toll on comfort or productivity. And of all the nailers we've looked at, this one's definitely in the running for most handsome, with a nice silver finish. But don't buy it for how it looks; this nailer's solid feel and action are reason enough. --Michael Shilling ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars not impressed yet in connecticut
i recently stated that the gun had difficulties with 1 3/4" nails on a reroof project, someone had suggested to stay away from the longer nails and i switched to 1 1/2" nails.
amazind difference!! gun sank every nail and never had a jam.
dont know why they advertise it as a 1 3/4" gun when it isnt. but know i know. guess i should have bought the stanley bostich

3-0 out of 5 stars not impressed yet in connecticut
just started to take on large roofing projects myself (i used to sub them out)and asked around which gun to buy. the answer was either stanley or hitachi. personally i hate stanley, so went with the nv45. my 1st project with the gun was 27 squares.
it was a reroof so i used 1 3/4" nails. at least 60-70% of the nails needed a little persuasion with my hammer. a real waste of time. but the gun only jammed once which wasnt bad to clear, it only took a minute. had the pressure up to 100 psi so am not sure what the problem was.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply The Best
I own a roofing company in Michigan and for the past 6 years we have been using Hitachi roofing guns. The best thing about them is they are very durable. They have survived many falls, one from 4 storeis up onto a concrete slab and the only thing wrong with it was the top needed to be tightened back down. These guns operate flawlessly, all they require is daily oiling and the ocasional cleaning and O-ring replacement. In a years time we probably install over 5000 squares of shingles and spend maybe $25 per year on each gun to maitain them. These guns are very easily repaired, just a few bolts to get them apart and within a half hour or so you can replace all of the O-rings and gaskets yourself.Wich saves $$$ and when your in business to make money every bit you save only helps. These guns are built to last and perform consistantly from day 1.The only bad thing is trying to find an air compressor to keep up! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
I also do production framing and let me tell ya, this gun stinks! It is unbalanced and a pain to load. Hitachi still makes the best gun though, the NR83a. I know it is a full head nailer, but if you are serious that is the way to go. I'm trying to sell my clipped head guns to go back to full head nails. Go with the full heads they are faster and stronger.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hitachivs.HastyHastings
For a framer wanting to gain overall speed on the job this nailer will blast away the boys down the street. Most one or two man operations will not use this gun to its end.But if plan to shoot a 3.5 - 4 million nailsthis year between six framers, well, the best choice will be this meangreen framing machine. Any serious, quick framer will love this tool.Ourslast about a year in production mode.Very good having had PaslodePowermaster Plus last less than 2 weeks under the same conditions as ourHitachi guns. Remember typical crews build 6-12 buildings a year and almostany gun can work at this rate for years. But at 45-55 buildings a year thetwo week guns cost lots more in the end then getting new Hitachi guns atthe end of a HIGH production year.If you already have high production, you already have this gun. If low production haunts you bust the hump withthis gun. mpw
