1-0 out of 5 stars Didn't work well as a stapler.
I bought this 2-in-1 for convenience (it's a 2-in1!) and because of a very good past history with other Stanley-Bostitch tools. I was sorely disappointed. I tried to use this to staple 1/4" underlayment, but encountered numerous jams, misfeeds and situations where one of the two legs of the stapler would not sink. All-in-all, of the 200 staples I tried to sink, I had 30+ 'mis-fires'; or ~16%. I tried varrying the pressure between 80-110 psig (even though the tool is clearly marked do not exceed 100 psig) but the problem never got better. Every 5th or 6th staple would be a problem. Clearly, this is not good. I was left with no other option but to return it (and used my neighbor's Porter Cable to finish the job). I've never had a problem with my brad-only tool Bostitch, so either I got a bad one or this is a bad design. I can't recommend this item.

4-0 out of 5 stars Light weight dual purpose
I use this mostly for stapling up cedar shingles and the only problem I have with it is you have to pull the trigger every time.I understand this is considered a finish nailer but having an option would be nice, especially in a situation like mine where accurancy is much less important than speed.

The plastic nose guard didn't last long on mine for siding work, but when I'm doing finish work I always get it out.The arrows are very accurate in helping show the nail/staple position.

Bositch now makes an even lighter model but that one is for staples only.Having the ability to do staples and brads is why I keep getting this one.Plus the weight difference doesn't really matter to me because this on is already so light I don't notice the weight.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth a dime!!
I'm a woodworker ,I bought this tool thinking a dual use tool would be more practical. Was I wrong!I've had this tool about 2 months and used it to drive 3 18 gauge nails ,it promptly jambed up and wouldn't shoot another nail. It will shoot staples very well, but due to the sloppy slot the nails slide in, they become jambed right away. What lousey workmanship .
I have a 16 Ga. Porter Cable nailer that is indestructable.I've had it 5 yrs.and use it constantly and have had no problems with it. This Bostitch tool is totally worthless . I would recomend it for the junk pile ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Broken
The thin metal bar that drives the nail down was broken upon arrival. So I would have to give it the lowest rating.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have For Floor Install
Seems rugged and works great. It takes a short while to get use the swing. You want to hit it pretty hard to force the boards together without splitting the toe.
You can build your floor with a nice finish nailer, but the cleat is much sturdier.
Senco cleats from your local hardware works great. You don't need to wait two weeks for the Bostitch.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Tool for the Money
I had the opportunity to use both this tool and the Porta Nailer manual floor nailer during a recent job. Both tools were new, both were solidly constructed and of good quality. The Bostich proved far superior to the Porta Nailer due primarily to the ratcheting feature on the Porta Nailer. This does not fuction well and is a poor design. The Porta nailer would leave cleats half driven or fail to release the cleat from the nailer after the cleat was fully driven. On the Porta Nailer side of the job we spent alot of time on our knees with a nail set trying to set cleats. We were forced to pull up a few planks becasue the cleats could not be set or removed. Eventually it was faster to just use the Bostich than waste man hours with the Porta Nailer. POSTSCRIPT _ It's a great value for the money - over ten big jobs without a hitch. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Nailer!
I have just begun a 2000 sq. ft. addition on my home. This nailer is the perfect tool for nailing all the joist hangers. I have a lot of engineered lumber in my design and trying to drive a nail by hand into a microlam beam is very difficult. I have framing nailers but they are too big to get in between the rafters at times.

The tool has a good feel and weight. Very comfortable. I drove over 200 nails the first day I used it and it never malfuctioned once. The glove keeps the tool where it needs to be and there is very limited recoil so it doesn't bother your hand at all.

I would recomend this nailer to anyone who does even the smallest amount of construction or home inprovement. In fact I have a second one on order for a Christmas gift for my 68 year old father who fell in love with it the first time he used it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pneumatic Palm Nailer
I recently retired and have undertaken a project to build a woodworking shop-garage.Swinging a hammer has become a very tiresome chore, and I was considering the purchase of a framing nailer.Upon reviewing information from various manufacturers, I realized that a framing nailer is a very specialized tool.
However, I happened to run across information about palm nailers. In reviewing the information provided by Amazon, I read that a palm nailer can be used for nailing any size nail and in many different applications. I could see where this would be a more useful tool than a framing nailer.I purchased the Bostitch PN100 kit, and immediately started using it with 16d nails in framing my new shop. I then used 10d nails in decking the roof. All I can say is this nailer is wonderful!!It drives nails quickly, at any angle, and in a limited amount of space. You do have to be careful to make sure that the alignment of the nail with the nailer is correct; if not, bent nails will result. However, with just a little practice, nailing becomes an effortless operation. I would recommend this as a general purpose nailer to anyone.I might also add that I own a brad nailer and a roofing nailer made by Porter Cable, and a 1/4 inch crown stapler, and the Bostitch nailer works as well as any of them. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars broken compressor no help to fix it
Hi T.W.IT M.C.Ibought this compressor combo kit at a local dealer and when it broke no wants to touch it or have any parts for it.How can I repair my tools!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Bostitch Cpack 100 Great Deal
I purchased the Bostitch CPACK100 from Amazon and it is an amazing kit. I like the compressor because of it's quick recovery and portability. The brad nailer will nail oak trim with no problem. The compressor also has plenty of power to use with a framing nailer and finish nailer. It's a great product!

4-0 out of 5 stars So Far So Good
I received my combo last week and used it for about 6 hours so far. I have used the compressor with the brad nailer and a Bostitch angle finish gun. So far it works beautifully. I had a jam in the finish nailer...no problem to clear. The brad nailer has been flawless so far. What I will say is that the directions for the compressor aren't worth the paper they are printed on. If you buy this compressor: The large gauge measures the pressure in the tank, the motor will cut off at 120 psi. The small gauge measures the psi delivered to the tool. Pull up the red cap and adjust the outflow until it meets the psi you need, then push the cap down to lock. To drain or release pressure the valve is on the bottom. The hose and connections are self explanatory.

Overall I'm very happy so far for the price you can't go wrong. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars nailer
This has been a very reliable nailer for me.It make easy work of putting on a roof.It is light weight, and nails quickly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well made and good deal but
The Bostitch appears well made and it is a good deal with the included stapler. It will drive 1 3/4 nails easily although in cold weather it is necessary to increase the pressure to 100 psi.So far I have only nailed one square of shingles, but it has already misfired once - not a good sign. The misfire was due to a misfeed but did not seem to be a nail problem since I was using Bostitch brand 1 1/4 nails (not generics).

5-0 out of 5 stars Great combo
The nailgun is as good as everyone says, and the Hammer Stapler is a great addition. It works fine for quickly tacking on felt, housewrap, vapor barriers, etc.Not a bad deal! ... Read more

Editorial Review

A popular model with framers, this Bostich stick framing nailer offers solid, no-fuss, reliable performance. With an aluminum housing and extruded aluminum magazine, it's a tough piece of equipment, designed to hold up to falls and the inevitable beating things take on a job site. Features include aggressive teeth that easily grip lumber (for toe-nailing), adjustable depth control, and a deflector that conveniently directs exhaust away from the user. We were impressed with how solid the whole unit feels--it definitely has the burliness of an industrial-strength tool. But with its burly nature comes a bit of extra weight--always something to consider. The tool weighs just over 8 pounds empty, so some arm fatigue is probably inevitable. But the nailer's rubber grips are comfortable to hold, and the balance is good. This model shoots 2- to 3-1/2-inch, 21-degree, plastic-collated, full-head nails, and will hold up to 75 nails at a time. This model is also available in contact or sequential trip. --Jonathon Tudor ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Gun
By far the best nailer I have ever used. Somtimes hard to find nails, but a can't miss nailer.

5-0 out of 5 stars A tank!
This thing is a tank. I bought one used years ago. It now has all of the paint worn off , and does not owe me a penny. It has never mis-fired, mis-fed jammed or leaked air. Just done it's job without missing a beat. It has had every brand of full head nails, and will feed them all. It even fed half a clip of d-heads once in a moment of desperation. Go figure. They are heavier ( by a lot!) than some of the newer guns and simpler. They do not have a 'lock out' for the last nail and will dry fire. Do not have the jam clear nose. But I can give one to a helper, and know there will be a greater chance ( some find a way) he will be able to do the job without shooting himself, someone else ( mine is sequential fire only, no bump fire and will not double shoot) or killing it ( two story drop, throw in dirt etc). And after he has finished abusing it, the next time I pick it up, it will still work!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Nailer for Cost
This is my first nailer although I have used Paslode, DuoFast and Senco as well.I understood going in the 800 lb force would not produce the same results as the higher priced models.I have found the nailer to work in all materials (although I have only used it for a couple of hundred nails), hardwood, softwood and even pressure treated. No jams as of yet and the nailer does drive nails completely into wood as long as you have it seated properly on the piece you are nailing.I must also add that I have the adjustment set for the deepest setting.I have used 8, 10, and 12 penny nails so far.No problem finding nails at Home Depot. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A very good gun.
This gun worked very good 30 square and no jams. I know that is not a lot of shingles but that is not bad.It also worked like a dream loading and is very easy to handle.I don't know how it will
hold up but it is built very well. I would recomend this gun to anybody.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice but...
Although I get the occassional nail jam (and the gun is easy to clear), I find, especially in cold weather, the gun just loves to shoot two or three nails at a time. Which is a pain. But it has shot them consistently and well for a lot of jobs and seems in no desperate way to wish to continue doing so for a long time to come. I think coil nails are a pain, but this gun loads them easily. It also seems to respond very nicely to preesure changes and will handle typical "abuse" well. It feels good and balanced, is fairly light and works and works.

5-0 out of 5 stars In Three Short Words - "Simply THE Best!"
I have used nearly every roofing nailer made (ie: Hitachi, Porter Cable, Makita, Senco, paslode, Max, etc.) and have yet to find anything to compete with the accuracy, precision and consistancy of the Stanley Bostitch RN45B-1. This gun actually makes roofing pleasurable (if you can believe that)! However, ask any roofer applying his trade in 100+ weather if the frustration of jams, short sinks don't make a hot day even hotter?! The Hitachi is a distant 2nd, cost about 30 bones more on the average, however, is not the workhorse that the Bostitch is, and needing far more repair and maintenance. In other words, when the Bostitch is making you money, the Hitachi is getting a check up and repair; to say nothing of it lagging behind in all performance catagories as well. Actually, I have had a great degree of success with the Porter Cable as well. For whatever reason, folks just like to beat up on Porter Cable (unless it is their 216 Planer or 557 Plate Joiner) and would put it right there with the Hitachi, almost. But make no mistake about it! The Stanley Bostich RN45B-1 is the air coil nailer that steals the show running away! Imagine an automobile having the lines of a Ferrari, the speed of a Lamborgini Diablo, power of the Dodge Viper and the durability of a Mac Truck - and you have the Bostich RN45B-1. Have a better concept now about this roofing nailer? :o) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 6 Roofs per year
While I am not in the trade year round I have found this tool to be the answer to many of the challenges we face with safety and quality while on the roof.
This gun eliminates tripping hazards as there are no hoses or electric cords. This keeps the comprtessor off the roof so no hazard encountered while tring to get your equipment up tothe work surface.
No overhead issue for the team on the ground because the grip pads on the top end of the gun really do stop it from sliding off the roof unlike other air guns that momentum of the hose carries the gun off the roof onto the teamnbelow.
Noise is much less of an issue than with compressed air.Communications from the ground up and down is easier. No noise to yell over.
I have read that you can reload the plastic containers the nails come in however I have not been able to find a manufactures note that would indicate that this is a safe practice.
Compared to the conventional Bostitch RN45B we are able to lay em down and nail em with equal speed and without fighting the hose all day.
The quality of our finished product is greater because there is no marring of the roof edge shingles from the air line rubbing against it.That is the customers line of sight and that matters.

...

If you are buying an air nail roofing gun. Reconsider and buy this battery operated gun.

4-0 out of 5 stars Log Home Contractor
This is a fabulous tool.I use as many cordless tools as I can because I hate listening to my generator and compressor running all the time.Bostitch has made a top of the line tool with this one.The battery will lay about 2 1/2 square of shingles without a recharge and with two batteries one can be charging at all times so you never run out of power. The tool is loud but not as loud as a generator, it is a bit on the heavy side but much better than having that air hose in tow and the way it holds in your hand you barely notice the weight. You have to buy the nails in the in the plastic canisters which only cost on average two dollars more per box but if you are a real miser you can buy regular coil roof nails and reload the canisters. If you are like me and want to use cordless as much as possible and you do many roofs this is a great alternative to pneumatic.I have literally waited for years for this tool. . . thank you Stanley Bostitch.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Hoses, No Jams, No Cords, No Overdrives, No Compressor
My construction class recently bought two of these nailers because our compressed air supply is too high pressure for nailers, so we use cordless or a seperate compressor.I have used a pneumatic nailer on five roofs ranging from small ticket booths to full sized play barns with flashing, felt paper, drip edge, and more.I was skeptical about a cordless nailer that did not use gas cells like a Paslode Impulse system, but I realized that it takes a lot less force to drive a nail through some shingles or a thin strip of aluminum than a 2x12 header. The jackhammer-style system takes some getting used to but it does not require padded gloves like a demo hammer. As for the nail cartridges, they are great. Our pneumatics constantly jammed from misshapened and bent wire-collated nails. The cartridges keep the nails in the correct shape....This is the only roofing nailer you will ever need, just get some cartridges of nails, a couple of batteries, go up on your roof and start laying whatever is needed. This is a great innovation. If you dont believe me, try Tools of The Trade, they gave it a special award for innovation ... 5-0 out of 5 stars DIY Homeowner's dream, but nails hard to buy.
PROS:
- This is a great and reliable nailer.I'm using it now to frame in a basement. Not a single jam.
- Haven't had it long enough to comment on durability, but I've put it down for 2 months, picked it up, and started nailing with not even a pause.
- The spiked teeth make toenailing a breeze.

CONS:
- Plastic collated nails in smaller quantities at 21 deg. for RH nailers are not available. That means you're stuck buying 4000 qty cases for your first job, no matter how small, and it makes having several nail sizes and types on hand an expensive proposition.I have been to 7 different hardware stores (big and small) in the DC metro area and can't find a single box of 21 deg plastic collated nails smaller than 4000 unit cases.
- Wear eye protection! Those plastic pieces from the collated nails can be dangerous as they come flying out from all angles.
- Had some minor trouble nailing treated lumber using a smaller compressor.Make sure your compressor is well-matched and up to the task with this nailer.

5-0 out of 5 stars BestPerformance
I purchased this item a few weeks ago and I'm still impressed. You want find a better working nailer.I have not experienced any jams with this tool.I also own a bostitch Clipped-head fram. nailer and when the hardware ran out of clipped-head nails, I saw the round-head and decided to buy one as backup. My dad isa heavy construction contractor and with this tool, I can build a deck so fast until this tool almost scare me.Buy it, you got my word on it. Editorial Review

A popular model among builders who work on high-repetition projects like trusses and prefabricated frames, Bostitch's utility coil nailer offers huge capacity and solid reliability. When fully loaded, this nailer certainly isn't the lightest tool you could choose, but when you can drive 300 nails without having to reload, you quickly appreciate the timesaving capacity. With its aluminum housing and composite canister, this gun is a tough piece of equipment, designed to hold up to bumps and falls--the inevitable beating nailers take on a job site. The nailer's aggressive teeth easily grip lumber for toe-nailing. An adjustable deflector conveniently directs exhaust away from the user, and a quick-release canister makes loading new coils a snap. We were impressed with how solid the whole unit feels--it has the burliness of an industrial-strength machine. This model shoots 1-1/2- to 3-1/4-inch, 15-degree, wire-weld-collated, full-head nails, and weighs just over 8 pounds empty. Note: this model does not haveadjustable drive depth. --Jonathon Tudor ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Coil nails
The description of this nailer states that it takes nails from 1 1/2 to 3 1/4. I have been unable to find anyone that sells less than a 2" nail for this gun. I also e-mailed the company to see if they could help me but received no response back. If you need a gun that provides a wide range of uses then you may be dissatisfied with this nail gun.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bostich N-80
I am a framer by trade and have 5 N-80's, they are a very dependable tool. The large nail capacity and full round headed nails are its biggest assets. Some of the drawbacks with the coil gun compared to the stick is that sometimes the coil of nails gets bound up in the magazine and needs to be straightend out. When toenailing it doesn't sink the heads as well as the stick.

4-0 out of 5 stars Darn Good Gun
I am a framer in New York where we frame in weather ranging from 90+ all the way down to below freezing. I have found this gun quite reliable and have had only minor problems usually associated with rubber o-rings that may freeze in extreme temperatures. The extra weight of the nailer is more than offset by the nail magazine capacity. My crews use all seven of my guns regularly and we still have yet to retire even the first one I ever bought. Last, but not least, these guns are extremely well-priced and an excellent bang for the buck. I recommend it highly. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Kit Gun
I am just a hobbiest and do not use my gun every day. If you like having to buy o-ring kits, bumper kits, and triggers, go ahead and get one. It seems like every time I go to use it I have to buy a kit or trigger. I have bought enough kits for my gun to buy 3 guns. It's the worse gun I've ever bought. I had a 18ga. Central Pneumatic brad nailer from Harbor Freight that I used a lot more than the N60FN and I never had to put a kit in it. It lasted 20 years. It finally died just recently and I can't get a kit for it. The problem with bostitch nailers is the kits cost way too much. It's kind of like buying a printer. When the ink runs out just go ahead and buy another printer because the ink is more expensive than the printer. I haven't shot but a total of 4 boxes of nails through mine and have had to use four kits and 2 triggers. I don't know if the new version is better than mine, but I'm afraid to try it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Gun
I purchased the N60 and later read the reviews on this web site.A consistent theme seems to be that it does not have enough power to counter sink nails in hard wood.I have found with mine that if you remove the rubber tip, put the pressure around 90 psi, and crank the depth adjustment down, it countersinks consistently just fine.I tried it out on a 4" block of rock maple and it did great.Oak was just fine too.I can't imagine what this gun wouldn't work on (unless you are nailing plate steel to concrete).

3-0 out of 5 stars Good gun, but get the 62 for greater power
I bought the 59 and took it back to Home Depot, then I took a chance on the 62 since I needed to get through maple consistently. If you'll never go through hardwoods this is a good gun, but if you need to punch through hardwoods you can't go wrong with the 62. ... Read more

The case is generally a good case. The only problem is that it is heavy and get's banged up pretty badly in the back of the truck. A blowmolded case might be better and easier to deal with... maybe even a place forwrenches to adjust the depth and a place for a few racks of nails just incase. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Quite simply one of the best framing models available, Bostitch's high-powered stick nailer is basically the sleek sports car of framing stick nailers. Yet, with its magnesium housing, extruded aluminum magazine, and antislide rubber exterior molding, it's also a very tough piece of equipment, designed to hold up to the inevitable falls and bangs and bumps that tools take on a job site. The nailer's aggressive teeth easily grip lumber for toe-nailing. You just push a button for depth control. There's also a 360-degree exhaust deflector, so you can point the discharge away from the face. Overall, we were impressed with how comfortable the unit was to hold. It definitely has the burliness of an industrial tool; it's also very well balanced and, at 7.8 pounds, relatively light. The nailer packs plenty of power (1,000 inch-pounds) and drives 3-1/2-inch nails into the toughest lumber without breaking a sweat. This model shoots 2- to 3-1/2-inch, 28-degree, wire-weld-collated, clipped-head nails, and holds up to 75. This nailer is available in contact or sequential trip. --Jonathon Tudor ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars MRLEVEL builder and remodeler
I recently purchased the N88WW to replace my old 20 year old bostitch framing gun and was very disapointed with the way it operates I could not sink 16d nails into the LVL's that we were using and had the pressure on the compressor at 110 lbs. I tried toe nailing some studs with 8d nails and had the same problem. I then took out my old nailer and had no problems with it sinking the nails into the LVL's and other lumber. I think they miss labeled this gun high power.I returned the gun and decided to tune up the old one and continue to use it. Eventuly I will buy a framing gun but not a new bostitch.

3-0 out of 5 stars Will they ever get it right???
I ordered one of these N88WW's, I was shipped an N88WWB. The main difference is that the N88WW can be top and rear loaded with a bypass pusher for the nails for quick loading of the nails. I already have one of these (N88WW) I have been using for the past two years.

Anyway, when I stated this Amazon has 2nd day mailed me a new nail gun. I open the box to find an N88WWB again???

Before purchasing the N88WWB I would consider buying 2 N88RH-MCN nailers. These shoot round head nails and have a quick-change head for installing metal re-enforcers.

1-0 out of 5 stars Palm Nailer included " truth or Lie"
From other reviews on this site, it seems that sometimes you get the bonus Palm nailer, sometimes you dont.I also did not get mine and also could have gotten the same deal from Lowes locally but now have missed this opportunity.Amazon.com is going to lose my business 4-ever if this is not corrected. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Why we like nailguns
Again I am going to highly praise Bostitch nail guns. I am a home builder in the Northeast and use Bostitch guns and only Bostitch. Reliability is reason # 1. They work day in and day out. Reason #2 is the availabilty of nails. Everyone carries Bostitch nails, not the case with other brands. I have 4 of these siding nailers, 2 being the N64c's. I favor the older models because the nose is very easily adjusted. On the 64s you have to use a wrench, loosen 2 nuts, slide the nose, then retighten the nuts. Very time consuming and hard to get an accurate slight adjustment. I can not understand why they made this change. Other than that still a great product. They work great on wood siding, but could work a little better on Hardi-plank cement board. When the pressure is on the low end sometimes doesn't countersink. But, all of the manufacturers have this same problem. If you are going to buy a utilty nailer/siding gun, go for the Bostitch.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great workhorse!
I am a contractor that bought this gun last year for nailing on cement plank siding and trim.It worked great, and we never had a problem shooting ring shank nails into the cement board nailing onto old yellow pine framing.I have since used it on all types of wood siding, more cement board, some fencing, and a lot of exterior trim repair. This gun is sturdy and very reliable.Nails for this gun are everywhere in all sizes.
Why not five stars? I would like to see the depth gauge easier to adjust. It takes longer to locate the wrench than to adjust the gun, but once adjusted it stays put. However, most guns that are used for utility purposes now have easy adjustments that don't require any tools. This really should be more of a 4 1/2 stars rating since I like the reliability so much.

2-0 out of 5 stars Needs work
This is basically a okay nailer. There are three things that I dislike about this gun. The first is that it does not shoot plastic collated coil nails without a door adapter that is not included and who knows where you can find it. Secondly the depth adjustment requires tools to change so you need to carry a wrench if you need to make adjustments while working (switch nails, fasten into different materials, need to countersink nails instead of flushnailing, or flushnail instead of sinking). Third the air deflector also needs a wrench to move. This can be fixed somewhat by leaving the bolt a little loose but the deflector gets to loose and moves on its own. None of the wrenches are included. It does come with a single shot trigger that eliminates double shots when putting on siding. The gun we got also ended up breaking down after only a box and a half of nails had been through it. I have used and owned other Bostitch tools and have never had problems with break downs except for wornout parts so hopefully the breakdown was an isolated incident. ... Read more
