Editorial Review

Are good blades worth the extra expense? Freud's done some impressive engineering and has come up with features that make these blades today's popular choice for woodworkers. The story on Freud blades is that the micrograin carbide/titanium tips stay sharp longer; the laser-cut body helps keep the hard steel blade flat and true; tri-metal brazing prevents cracks and failed joints; and the antikickback design ensures safer operation. While we may not understand the physics of these features, we do know these blades cut great and run quiet and chatter-free. They're Teflon-coated to reduce friction and heat buildup and to protect against rust, corrosion, and resin buildup. It's easy to imagine coaxing better performance and quality work out of older or underpowered saws with these Freud blades. Buying the blades in this three-pack is considerably less expensive than buying these popular blades separately. --Tim Block ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars First for me.
I have owned a Delta unisaw for 3 years.Hard maple is one of my main wood choices. After recieving these blades, I now understand how a rip blade differs from a cutoff blade.I used to get great cuts from my first Freud blade, but now, ripping butcherblock is effortless, and clean.I suspect during cabinet building with some of my cherry stock, the combination blade will be more a fixture in the saw, however, this weekend is time for prefinished oak flooring, where the 80 tooth finecut blade makes cuts as clean as...as it should be.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great blades for smooth cuts
The Freud R-Bladepack is one of the gifts I will be waiting for under the tree for Christmas. Whoever thought of making Teflon coated saw blades had a great idea. Personally, I think that this package is a great Christmas gift to give to anybody who has a 10" powered saw, whether it is at home or at work. The Teflon coating makes the cuts a lot smoother and more accurate. Most of the carpenters I know have recommended the Freud Teflon coated blades.

The Freud R-Bladepack will last you a looooong time. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Even the best blades on the best table saws wobble to some extent, yielding imprecise cuts or unsightly kerf marks on the edge of a board. A good blade stabilizer like this Freud model can make the difference between common woodworking and fine woodworking. Freud's blade stabilizer has excellent balance and more weight than competing models, and, when used with a good blade, it produces excellent results every time. While the stabilizer is great for ensuring accurate rips in thin stock, as well as perfect dados and rabbets, you may need to remove it when working with thicker stock because the size of the stabilizer can prevent the blade from raising to its full height and keep the saw from reaching its maximum tilt. Freud's blade stabilizer is as good as they come, though, and definitely a worthwhile investment for any woodworker looking for the finest results. Fits saws with a 5/8-inch arbor. --Brian Trinen ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Stabilize your saw, not your blade
Vibration in most table saws in not the fault of the saw blade alone, and cannot be fixed at the blade, alone. It is the result ofthe of the motor, transmission (gearing, belts, arbors, pulleys) and the blade all creating vibration waves, and the ability or inability of the table to absorb those waves. The blade stabilizer may help some, but only if the other much more problematic sources are dealt with first.

I have a 20 year old craftsman 10" contractor saw with steel wings, that vibrated like crazy.I once tried the "nickel test," standing a nickel on edge on the table with the power on.It bounced the nickel off the table. My cuts were not smooth, and adding a stabilizer to the blade did nothing - its very small effects were drowned out by the rest of the saw.

What did work were two pretty cheap AND very effective fixes.
1. spent $30 on a nice link-belt. Even with the beat up pulleys still in place, it felt like a new saw.Utterly astounding.
2. glued cheap vinyl floor tiles to the steel stand and wings (out of sight, what with flowery patterns on the tile) Again, utterly astounding. This idea comes from my brush with audiophilia, where vibration damping is a religion. The vinyl absorbs vibrations very well. The thicker and heavier the better.

After these two fixes, the saw stood up to the nickel test with no problems, even on the steel wings.Cuts are much, much cleaner, like new with a sharp blade.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Product
I have been using these for a year now and have found that they really do quiet my saw down. The only thing to realize is that they really do cut down on the height of the blade. This is a problem sometimes. You may need two zero clearance inserts for your blade one with the stablizers and a different insert for using the blade without them so that you can get the height back.Bit of a hassle but it does not happen often for me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worse than useless unless you use both
Using both stabilizers takes up a 1/2" of arbor width.I didn't have room to install both on my Bosch 4000 bench saw so I installed one on the outside.Although Freud literature doesn't point this out, these are made to be used only as a pair.If you install only one your blade gets retensioned away from being flat.I noticed this because after installing one, my splitter no longer lined up and I had to adjust the blade 1/2 a degree to get it back to being perpendicular to the table.Perhaps they improve the quality of the cut when used as a pair with a thin kerf blade.I wasn't able to test that.I give them only 1 star because Freud doesn't make it clear that both need to be used. The Forrest stabilizer is made to work as a single unit on one side of the blade.Probably a better choice for most people. ... I was just working with a framer who had this blade on this Mag 77 and I was stunned at how fast this blade cut through wood. It's hard to believe that a blade could make that much difference. All cuts with this blade were effortless. We ripped a 6"x10"x12' beam on the 6" side. You would have thought we had just used a table saw. This is a sweet blade. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING
I had a $50 dollar DeWalt blade and thought that ought to be good enough, it does pretty well.I was wrong, this Frued 30 tooth and 80 tooth full kerf blade is amazing. Not only is it quiet but it slices through anything I can throw at it like a laser and is so smooth, I really don't need to sand it.Worth every penny, I am sold.I am using a 3HP Grizzly Tablesaw and this combination is capable of just about anything....

5-0 out of 5 stars THE blade for trim.
"Produce Glass-smooth cuts". They are NOT kidding about this one... I use this blade solely for trim. Faces of the cut are like they're sanded with 220, the angles are razor sharp, and there is zero tearout. The sawdust that comes out of the back of the saw is like a fine talcum powder. Very impressive blade! Worth every penny if you're going to be doing fine trim work.

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent Blade for crosscutting and plywood
I'd give this a 4.5 if I could.I only rates a 4 for crosscutting. It does a nice job, but nothing outstanding. For sheetgoods, however, it makes extremely nice cuts without any tearout.I've cut baltic birch plywood, MDF, MDO and perfect cuts every time. For these, I'd give it a 5.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dang that's sweet!
I put this blade on my Craftsman radial arm saw and it completely
changed the way I feel about that saw.Now the thing cuts
like a hot knife through butter. The cross cuts leave end
grain so smooth you'd swear you were feeling a sanded surface
with the grain.Ok, maybe not that smooth, but still, pretty
darn smooth.I haven't tried any other fancy or expensive
blades, but this blade put my old cross cutting blades to
shame.Highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cuts great but...
This blade makes cuts as smooth as glass and does not tend to splinter wood as some other blades do. The only problem is that sometimes it leaves red marks from the tefon on the piece of wood after it is cut. Makes you wonder if it is worth the exta cash. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent combo blade!
I've been using the chrome version of this blade on my old (ancient) Jet contractor's saw for about 3 years and couldn't be happier. It leaves a super-smooth, glue-ready surface when ripping soft- or hardwood stock, and equally fine surfaces on crosscuts. My saw is tuned properly, I use a link belt to reduce vibration, and for ripping always use a featherboard just in front of the blade to maintain proper position of the stock.

I showed this blade off at a recent woodworker's gathering of about 30 people, and they were definitely impressed. Can't imagine that it'd be possible to get a much better surface than the LU84 provides. On my humble 1.5HP saw, though, I don't use it for ripping really thick stock.Firmly believe a good 24-tooth ripping blade is the way to go there.

4-0 out of 5 stars LU84R011 blade
I purchased this blade a few weeks ago and put it on my new Hitachi C10FL table saw. I've always had good experience with Freud products and this blade isn't much of an exception. It is a hefty piece of steel and overall well made. The carbide teeth are THICK which will allow many resharpenings. It is a GOOD blade, but NOT "excellent". For general purpose use that will give acceptable results it certainly lives up to its manufacturer ratings for various types of cuts in different material. A few important points to note, however. There is splintering on the end of a cross cut, I suspect this is mostly due to the flat top grind raker tooth as my "low budget" Lowes bought Freud combo blade with all ATB teeth leaves a cleaner cross cut. The Teflon coating seems to be more of a hindrance than a blessing. It is not perfectly flat in all places, and seems to clog the anti vibration slots in the blade body. Also, the coating has worn off where the arbor washers contact it - I carefully sanded the coating away in this area. The blade does not vibrate at all, and I feel stiffeners aren't necessary though they can't hurt I'm sure. Although I am not sorry I bought this blade, I will be purchasing either a Forrest blade or two separate blades - rip and crosscut in order to get the perfect result for each type of cut. My recommendation would be to go with the LU84M011 blade instead - doesn't have the unhelpful Teflon coating and is ten dollars cheaper.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really impressed
Just received this blade and mounted it in my Ryobi BT3100.
Using it to cut 3/4 solid oak, 3/4 oak veneer plywood, pine, both cross cut and ripping, it's hard to imagine anything better. Quiet, splinter free. Now I want a couple more for my chop saw and a spare. Everything I've purchased from Freud has been a worthwhile investment. And NO this has not been a paid commercial :-). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfectly does what it advertises
Seldom do I get something that does exactly what the advertising claims. For example, the Forrest Chopmaster was not the be-all and end-all of miter saw blades - certainly did not outperform the Dewalt 80T blade (at half the price) it replaced. But I digress....

This blade makes perfectly chip-free cuts through melamine particle board and birch or maple veneer plywood - exactly as advertised. It doesn't rip through them like the blade I use with hardwoods, but then that blade makes a total mess of melamine in particular. If you are working with laminates or veneer plywood, this will give you a perfectly finished edge on your cut.Who could ask for more?Me - I want a dado stack with these on the outside....

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Blade!
I purchased this blade to cut 3/4" laminated MDF to make shelves.I wanted to use this material so that I didn't have to paint them.I was worried about chipping, so I bought this blade. Both sides of the laminate remained chip free on both rip and crosscuts. The cut lines were extremely smooth. The blade is whisper quiet too.I'm sold!I'm tossing my 40T blade that came with my saw and I'm purchasing the Freud 50T combo blade.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT MELAMINE BLADE
I HAD TO STOP AND WRITE A QUICK REVIEW OF THIS FREUD BLADE. IT REALLY IS A GREAT BLADE WHEN USED ON THE CORRECT MATERIAL. IT WORKS GREAT ON MELAMINE, LAMINATES.PATICLE BOARD AND BOTH HARD AND SOFT WOOD PLYWOODS. I LIKE IT ON DOUBLE SIDED LAMINATES SINCE I DONT GET THE CHIPPING. I NOTICED THAT ANOTHER WOOD WORKER TRIED USING IT ON HARDWOOD FLOORING, ITS NOT MADE FOR THAT AS THEY FOUND OUT IT DULLED RAPIDLY.ALSO THIS BLADE SHOULD NOT BE USED IN A RADIAL SAW OR SLIDING COMPOUND SAW. ANYWAY IF YOU NEED A GOOD BLADE TO CUT THE MATERIAL THAT I NAMED ABOVE AND YOU DONT WANT TO BREAK THE BANK THIS BLADE WILL SERVE YOU WELL. AS FOR SHARPENING ALWAYS FIND A SHARPENING SHOP THAT USES COMPUTER CONTROLLED EQUIPMENT AND WET GRINDS THE BLADES. AND AS ALWAYS IF ANYONE WANTS TO E-MAIL ME WITH A QUESTION OR COMMENT YOUR ALWAYS WELCOME. THANKS AND HAPPY WOODWORKING ... Read more

Fits saws with a 1-inch arbor. --Brian Trinen ...

Read more
