Editorial Review

Great for light framing--remodeling, especially--this Impulse cordless framing nailer from Paslode lets you avoid the hassle of compressor hoses and compressor noise. The nailer's small, 12-inch-long, lightweight body (6.9 pounds) is easy to hold and, because you're not dragging a hose, doesn't cause as much arm fatigue as other nailers. The nailer drives 2- to 3-1/4-inch nails and has easy-to-adjust drive depth and a high-visibility load magazine. This Paslode nailer uses a patented system that requires both a fuel cell and an included rechargeable battery. Overall, we were impressed with the nailer's performance--it's consistent and there's adequate power for most uses. This model shoots up to 1,200 nails on a single fuel cell and up to 4,000 nails on a full battery charge. There's a convenient belt hanger so you don't have to lay the nailer on the ground or on top of a ladder or wedge it among rafters, and the high-visibility orange makes it difficult to misplace. The kit includes a plastic carrying case, a lightweight charger, and safety goggles. Please note that the nailer does not come with the fuel cell included. --Jonathon Tudor ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Faming Nailer
I bought this nail gun to finish a few rooms in my basement. The Paslode Framing Nailer worked flawlessly. It nailed pressure treated 2x4s perfectly.I didn't have a single problem with it.

The only thing I didn't like was the exhaust that the gun produces.Since it works off of an actual explosion, it gives off an exhasut that can be a little overwhelming if your not working outside or have the windows open.

5-0 out of 5 stars CUT YOUR UMBILICAL AIRHOSE PEOPLE!
Will someone please tell me what "light framing" is? The nature of the work itselfdoes not change whether one wants to use a 16 oz. hammer to put together a house or a framing gun.So I'm not quite sure what those reviewers mean when they say this gun is for "light framing". It shoots nails into wood! Does it's being cordless somehow translate into some kind of limitation? As long as this nailer is working like it ought to, I don't see any reason why one would hesitate to use it in any situation one night find onself in when framing a house. For reviewers to categorize this liberating tool as a novelty is misleading to those who might benefit from it's use. Cordless is the future, get used to it.

5-0 out of 5 stars "wireless" is better
I once had an ex army ranger turned framer tell me that he would rather jump out of a airplane with an air hose than a parachute, because the hose will surely get hung on something , somewhere on the way down.while this is a little far fetched, using the impulse gun eliminates the "hung up air hose".it is great for light framing and punch list work. i strongly recommend this gun for people in the remodel/repair industry as well as the do-it-yourselfer. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Solid performer
I just finished my first day with this wonderful framing nailer. It easily doubled my output, erecting a self-designed shed about a third of the way in less than four hours.(Ten years ago I did all the work with a hammer. That was insane.)The price on Amazon, together with free shipping & no tax, made it a killer deal.Plus, my Paslode made it into my hot little hands in about seven days.

Others wrote excellent technical reviews and said nice things, so I won't repeat those here.I did discover the depth-of-drive adjustment works for fine tuning, but found you can alter this dramatically by running 100 psi (the upper end of the range), instead of around 80 psi (the lower end).Remember this when driving into 6-by's or larger with 3 and a half inch nails. Most experienced construction guys probably know this, but a neophyte like me found out by trial-and-error.They do not give you this hint in the literature.

Anyhow, awesome tool that I'm sure my wife will find me numerous projects to use it on.Buy with confidence.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bought one used
I picked up a gently used F350S at the framing contractor supply store (not a pawn shop). I still have my NR83A Hitachi as well.
The depth setting does take a few test shots to ensure that the nailheads are seated appropriately, though I could probably scratch a mark on the safety to indicate the flush setting.
The newer models of this nailer come with a small rafter hanger included. Mine did not have this feature and I am more accustomed to the L-bracket of aluminum that hangs on the air nipple at the back of the nailer.
A very light and well-balanced piece of equipment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Nailer Available
My company builds several houses each year and many decks each spring and summer so I work my framing gun hard. This is the third brand of nailer I have owned and with this one I finally got it right.I almost bought this one last time I purchased a gun and always wished I had.The guys I worked alongside all winter long in extreme conditions had paslodes and they worked in the cold and sand while my dewalt needed new o-rings twice.I have always enjoyed the balance and low recoil of this gun and it toenails better than any other gun. Now that they added the wonderful rafter hook, this gun is priceless, and it is the least expensive on the market.Paslode also makes a roundhead nail for this gun for those of you in areas where code requires that. What a winner.5 stars for sure. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A good purchase
I bought this nailer a couple weeks ago and have put it to some use in that time. Although I was disappointed, to say the least, to see that it is actually made in Taiwan rather than USA like Amazon states, it is still a good tool. Mostly made of plastic and aluminum, it is very light weight and appears to be able to hold up to the light duty use I will be putting it to. I have shot various sizes of brads, of various brands, and haven't had any jams or problems. The air I supply to the gun is around 80psi and I've shot brads into very hard, very dense hardwoods, and very soft woods as well without a problem at this pressure. I figure it's best to use the lowest pressure you can as it saves wear and tear on both nailer and compressor. I've deliberately shot nails into knots (even though this should be avoided) and they have all gone in without a problem - 5/8" to 2" brads. The tool is very easy to use and comes with a case which is nice. For the price this brad nailer is in the top end of its class in my opinion - especially since all the others are also made in Taiwan. I'm confident it will give me years of good service if used and maintained properly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Featherweight with a Heavy Punch
The Paslode 500959 is the third 18 Guage nailer I have owned, and has been the best up to this point. For several years I have used central pneumatic and porter cable 18 gauge nailers without major complaints, but thought I would give paslode products a try by purchasing one on of their least expensive models. The paslode is much lighter than the PC & CP (2.2lbs to 2.8lbs & 2.9lbs on my balance.0.6lbs - 0.7lbs doesn't sound like a big differnce, but becomes very apparent when using the tool for extended periods of time.

Although very light, I found the paslode just as powerful as its heavier brothers.I had no trouble driving 2 inch brads into some 1 inch thick oak face frames I was working with recently.

The paslode's nose geometry is also great.Even with its rubber tip attached, it will fit into tight spots a bit easier than the porter cable or the central pneumatic. This nailer (like the PC & CP)has its safety guard located behind the nose. This is actually the feature I always check first when looking at finish nailers.A few common models have their guard in front of the nose. The first finish nailer I ever used (borrowed) was set up with the guard in front, and it found it much harder to position the nose for toe nailing and other tight space tasks.

I would guess I have driven 2500-3000 nails with the paslode, and thus far it has yet to jam.I am sure it will eventually, and was happy to see that it uses a spring loaded latch (just like the PC) to remove jams. This is much easier to use than the series of hex screws that must be removed to clear jams on many finish nailers.

The depth of drive adjustment on the paslode is similiar to most nailers that offer this option. It's a thumbwheel located behind the trigger, and works well.

The exhaust port direction is also easy to adjust, although I have found that I generally just leave the port pointing towards the front surface of the nailer.

My only complaints about this nailer are the kick back and its lack of a belt hook.Of course the kick back is the drawback that comes with the paslode's lack of weight.Overall, I'll take the lightweight nailer and make sure my wrist is firm before firing.

I would actually rate this nailer at 4.5 stars.I always hesitate to use the 5 star rating(as few tools are truely perfect). I think the Paslode stands up well against any commonly available finish nailer, regardless of price. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Works flawlessly if you have a fresh fuel cell
This nailer works great. If the tool fails to fire or jams frequently (if you read other reviews you'll read about complaints of this happening, where they drepress the nose several times and then it works for a while, etc):CHECK THE EXPIRATION DATE ON THE FUEL CELL.
An expired fuel cell will make the tool malfunction randomly (drive 3-5 nails, not work, drive 3 more then not work or jam, etc). Creating huge amounts of frustration.

I have a set of Impulse nailers (framing and trim) and both worked flawlesslywhen I fist bought them. I use them for home projects, that is, it can be a year or more before I use it on another project. Last year I started a new project and the framing nailer started not firing after driving 3-5 nails. I cleaned, oiled and cleaned again with temporary results after a few nails. The "usual procedure" is to depress the nose 10 times on the trim and at some point it starts firing again. Needless to say frustrating enough to make you want to buy a corded tool.

Four days ago I started working on trim, and the finish nailer started behaving the same way. Finally mad as heck I contacted paslode, and they told me to check the expiration date on the fuel cells. Sure enough, both of them were over 18 months expired. I replaced the fuel cell with a new one from the store, and wham, works without hessitation. I offloaded about 100 nails with each nailer and not a single misfire.

I would have rated this as a 5 star, if the manual would have suggested to check the expiration date of the fuel cells. Alas, it is possible that mine didn't say this because I bought mine over two years ago, and they had recently introduced the nailers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible tool forget the comp's and drippy nail guns. . .
I have a 100 yr old house that I am usually working on.My Dad came over one day with this tool and it was amazing.I went out and bought one for myself that day.I have had no problems with it and would definitely recommend it to everyone working with molding, trim, wood paneling, etc. In all honesty however, I could see how industrial use of this tool in very dusty locations cause some problems--you would need to clean it often.
I do have the whole compressor and drippy nail gun setup available, but never end up using them--never have since I got this Passload finish nailer.Everyone I have shown it to wants one.BTW, if mine started acting up as bad as some of these others I read about here, I would go out and by another Passload finish nailer again.I don't usually write reviews, but wanted to write one after reading the negative postings here.I wonder if any of these negative posters sell air guns or compressors?

5-0 out of 5 stars my favorite tool
I'm a carpenter over 20 years, I havent had any problems with this tool. Its probably true this nail gun isnt meant for production finish work. Some people get hold of a tool and expect to just pound it into the ground until they break it, and then blame it on the tool. Bottom line is, any experienced carpenter knows, that if you respect your tools and use a little common sense, most tool can last a lifetime. So far ive put in alot of hours with the paslode, ive had an occasional jam but am very impressed with its overall performance. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars good gun
I like this gun and would recommend it for those looking for a quality finish nailer.

pros:
great range of size nails it can shoot.
solid and well balanced
has a nice case.
non maring foot
hasnt misfired yet.

cons:
heavy
construction wasnt perfect
the safety is a bit stiff to depress.

2-0 out of 5 stars Inadequate Warranty
First, let me say that I have no complaints about the way the tool operates. It always drove the nails to the right depth, rarely jammed and was easy to clear when it jammed. Now I bought the nailer in March, it stopped working in November after fairly light use. Much to my surprise the warranty is only 90 days (Porter Cable has a 1 year warranty). So it's probably going to cost me about $50 to fix. Also upon contacting the service center, they informed me that this particular nailer has had a fair amount of repair problems. Ironically, I'm now using the Harbor Freight nailer I bought for $75 that's working like a champ, despite a bizarre leak in the middle of the body.

5-0 out of 5 stars Made in the USA
I can't recommend this nailer enough. From the fit and finish, to the power it drives nails into the hardest wood. Quality and affordability plus made in the USA. If I were to own one nailer the 16 gauge Paslode would be it. Its a nice compromise between the 18 gauge brad nailers and the 15 gauge finish nailers. I also own the Paslode 18 gauge brad nailer. If you are looking for something smaller you can't go wrong with it either. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
When I first purchased this gun it performed like a dream, however, after the first brads things started to go wrong. These problems were not corrected even when thirty minutes is spent cleaning the gun as per the manufacturer's directions.I have faithfully used both the expensive de-greasers and lubricating oil to no avail.I appear to spend longer cleaning the bloody thing than actually using it.

After a thorough cleaning the gun works well for a short time and then the problems start. The gun will consistantly misfire, in that the nose will be depressed and the fan will start, but no combustion occurs.Originally I believed that it must have been the spark, but that appears to be okay.

I have returned this particular gun to the service agent on a number of occasions for the following reasons:

Split main o-ring
Fan motor burnt out
hole in the dust filter, failure to fire when contact element is lightly, but fully depressed.

Another major problem with this model is the spring in the magazine hold open device. This spring keeps the rear of the nails properly aligned.I have lost this spring, by vertue of it falling out, on no fewer than three occasions.I have now given up with this feature of the gun and it still seems to function okay.

Don't get me wrong I am not anti-paslode, .I own the framer and air fit out gun and their great tools, however this fit-out gun is a lemon.Steer well clear of it and purhaps look at some of the newer models.I wish I had, but I liked the ability to change between guages of the brads.

2-0 out of 5 stars customer service
Living in Los Angeles must be the "out back" to Paslode,I purchased the tool with the understanding that nails and fuel cells could be purchased at places like Lowes and Home Depot or at best at local tool outlets.I have yet to find a retailer that sell the 18 guage nail, some do sell brads. I had to have the fuel cell UPS'ed from Oxnard Ca. I went on line and discussed the problem with Paslode. They could care less, they insist that fuel cells and nails are available(but they wouldn't sell me any????. So I continue to call tool supply stores and check larger retailers. The Paslode catalogue "on line fastener section" does not even refer to the nails in question. As far as performance, when using brads it works adequatly. So to any and all of you that are considering the purchase of this tool make sure that accessories and supplies are available Would I buy another produce-----NO.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Gun For Any Job
I've had mine for about a year and I love this gun. It's so much easier to grab this out of the backseat of my truck and start nailing than it is to grab a pneumatic gun, the compressor, the hose, finding an outlet and tripping over the hose as I'm trying to nail with it. For a small job you can be in and out with this gun before you even get the compressor set up. As long as you keep the gun lubed and clean you will rarely have a problem with it. I use mine for trim, woodworking and finish work with great results. In fact, I haven't used a pneumatic brad nailer since I got this, and I have 3 brad nailers that are collecting dust because of this gun. I've used different brands of nails and they all seem to work well. At the price this gun may not be for everyone, But everyone that uses it will want one

5-0 out of 5 stars Best gun ever
This is hands down the most time saving tool I have ever used.I just got it last week and I already don't know how I ever got along without it.I put 62 nails in a joist hanger this afternoon in less than a minute. If you have never used this gun you do not know what you are missing. No more smashed fingers trying to hold those little joist hanger nails.I used to use a palm nailer to do my hangers, but no more except in those tiny hard to reach areas where this gun will not fit.The only drawbacks I can forsee with this gun are the price of the nails and the weight of the gun itself. It is fairly heavy.Other than that, I will never be without this gun again.

5-0 out of 5 stars paslode positive placement nailer
We run 2 framing crews all year long in British Columbia, Canada. When one first uses this tool, it must be reminiscent of the first carpenter who ever used an air nailer. Of course, like every nailer, it does'nt fit into every hanger application,...(about double regular air nails), and I'm still trying to find galvanized strip nails, but it just about paid for itself on the first job, and we now would no more be without it than the spikers. If you're putting on more than just a few hangers in a year, it's definately worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars yes,it really works!
I am a contractor who has been looking for years for an answer to those finger-busting,time-consuming teco nails. This gun is the answer! It shoots teco nails in all of the hanger holes I have encountered. It saved enoughlabor cost to pay for itself in 1 or 2 custom jobs. Thanks Paslode! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Paslode siding nailer
This gun is one of the best items to come along.I have been doing siding for over 10 years ( by hand ) and in the winter time it is very hard to hold nails with gloves on or freeze with none on, one person can hang alot more siding for more profit in one day compared to by hand nailing plus no nail pouch required so less weight to carry around I love it. Nailing into tight places is a little more easy also.No breaking siding when hit with a hammer. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It's a battery
What is there to say about a battery? It takes a charge and it delivers power. This particular model lasts a very long time. The impulse guns must not require much power to operate because these will drive several thousand nails before dying. My only complaint is that they are expensive compared to other batteries . At the same rate a 12v would be a hundred bucks. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the absolute best roofing nailer ever
the paslode rarely misfeeds has perfect bounce it is the fastest and smoothest roofing nailer ive ever used, and ive used alot ,you will be extremely impressed when this gun gets in your hand. the only choice for expierienced roofers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sure Beats Hand Nailing
I have been doing roofing for several years.I initially started with just a hammer and watched how guys with the guns were working circles around me.I bought a gun and cut my completion time by about 1/3 to 1/2 depending on the roof.It takes a little getting used to, but you'll probably never go back.I have just gotten my 6th Paslode.I still own 4.I have never worn one out.I've had parts replaced, but still own and use the most, my first one.I let my helper use the newer ones.I also keep them set at different settings, depending on the shingles being applied.

If I could make one change to the gun, it would be the magazine capacity(120).When I'm moving right along, it doesn't take long to go through a coil of nails, however 1 bundle of shingles is about equal to one coil of nails.

I have tried other guns. They don't seem as solid or as smooth as the Paslode. Happy roofing!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good gun for a great price.
I recently bought the Bostitch 18 gauge nailer. It was a piece of junk that misfired right from the box. After then reading the reviews of it on Amazon I kicked myself, then sent it back and bought the Paslode.I have shot about 1500 brads through it and have had very little if any problems. The one problem I did have was one brad bent inside the gun, but I think that might have been user error.I can highly recommend this gun.
There are probably better guns out there, but not for this price. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Paslode can't be Beat
For any or all of the people who actually read this, this stapler is a great tool. It is easy to handle, light weight, and in all the time I have owned this tool, I don't think it has jammed one time. I don't use this tool in the capacity it was really designed for (sheathing, roofing, and decking)but what I do use it for works great. When installing treads and risers (stairs) in residential homes, I use it to attach the 3/4" riser material to the stair stringer. It works alot better than the framing nailer because the stringer takes the two legs of the staple alot better than a 31/4" nail. I have used other staplers and as far as I am concerned this one rates as well as any of the other top brands( I own 6 Senco nailers and staplers). If you are thinking about a Paslode tool this is one I would recommend to any one! ... Read more
