    Editorial Review

When we bought our first router, we agonized over whether tobuy a fixed base or a plunge. Well, we went for the fixed base; infact, it was this model's predecessor, the Porter-Cable 690. But justas you'd imagine, we also ended up buying a plunge router later on. Hadthis deal been available back then, we'd have snapped it up. It offersone of the best basic fixed-base routers on the market with a secondbase that turns it into a plunge. The fixed base has P-C's neatmicrometer ring adjustment that lets you raise or lower your bit just ahairsbreadth. This set is ideal for mounting the fixed base in a routertable and lifting the body out to use in the plunge base, which, by theway, operates smoothly, has a nice chip deflector, and includes aconvenient plunge lock right next to the handle. It also features asix-position stop turret with a 2-1/2-inch plunge range. Best of all,it offers all the durability and smooth, reliable performance of theoriginal 690 model, with a little more horsepower and a new take on thedepth adjustment that prevents the motor from ever accidentally fallingout of the base. If you're looking for bells and whistles, shop up theline a little more, but if you're looking for a solid workhorse withgreat accuracy and reliability along with the plunge option, this is agreat deal. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Powerful
The Router has plenty of power.I used it on 3/4" birch plywood to cut out some cabinet door openings and it handled the task effortlessly, not even a splinter. The draw backs... the knuckle buster bit change system.I can't believe a company as good as PC can't / won't do better.Very disappointing.Invest in the D-handle base.It is by far the most convenient and SAFEST of them all.Dust flies everywhere, so have safety goggles (glasses are not enough).

3-0 out of 5 stars It's an average router in both fixed and plunge category
This was the second router(s) I bought that I mainly wanted forhandheld use. The weight and power are good enough for what I wanted to do. But there are just things that I wish they could be better.
Both for the fixed andplunge base, it's very hard to center the bit when using guide bushing. The screw holes in the base plate are counter-sunk, that means there is no room to position the base plate when the screws are tightened. Later I found other router plates have flat bottom recessed screw holes that allow you to move the plate in order to center the bit. So I have to drill another set of holes that allow me to make adjustment if needed and I do. Two wrench operation is another drawback. Come on, PC, we are in the 21st century, there got to be something easier and better than that. Even the Craftsman router has spindle lock. The locking lever on the plunge base travels too long. When you lock it down, it almost hit the router body. And it does not seem to have a way to set it at another angle. Once you centered the bit at a certain depth, if you raise or lower the motor, the bit becomes off center by quite a noticeably amount that requires another adjustment. That means the plunge rods are in question.
Actually, I bought a second motor to use in the second base. All I can say about these routers are that they are reliable and does a decent job, but not top notch quality for precision work.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great little router at a good price.
Just like the other Porter-Cable power tools I own. Very dependable and well made. I have not had any problems with it. It runs smooth and has very little vibration compared to other brands I have used. It is light weight, versatile and easy to control. I have used it on doors, and in build cabinets. It has never let me down. I would recommend it. It is a great hand router. I say hand router because it is not designed for a table router. If you a looking for a table outer I would go with a more simple one and with more horsepower. I gave this four stars because nothing is perfect. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great sander...... until it broke
I loved this sander. then one day it randomly stopped working. I am sending it back to porter-cable... hopefully they will get it back to me quickly. The sander was used in-frequently at best. I guess i just got a lemon
***Update: Turns out it was my fault. i used the sander on drywall and this caused the problem..? I didn't know. Live and learn. Don't use this sander on drywall... apparently that voids the warranty, but they fixed it anyway.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfected old design
The 330 has been around a long while and it's the best quarter-sheet machine ever produced. I even used mine years ago with a felt pad and optical polish to restore a wiper-scratched windshield to new condition with about an hour of easy work. Regarding the complaint that a "special" tool is needed for changing standard paper, anyone with an IQ of multiple digits will immediately see that an ordinary flat-blade screwdriver works as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars The absolute best 1/4 sheet sander
I have been doing cabinetry and custom woodowrking for many years and have owned and used many, many pad sanders. For a 1/4 sheet model, this one is the absolute best. I bought my first one 27 years ago and it was still going strong when it was stolen about 4 years ago. Fortunately I bought a second one about 10 yrs ago which is getting plenty of extra use now.

I've melted down a few Makita's and Black & Deckers (they made my hand go numb after 5 minutes use anyway) but this model just keeps on going. Not only smooth, it's extremely durable and easy to do maintenance on (and it lasts the years so you get the chance to).

About that key: I switched my old 330 out years ago to take adhesive backed abrasives and my newer one already has that capability. I never used that key anyway... a screwdriver did a fine job if I did want to used standard sandpaper. That is such a minor thing compared to the superior performance, life, and smoothness you get out of this sander.

After two sanders owned and a handful other 330's used... this is the champ. If you want a bigger sander, blow some pennies on a Porter-Cable 505... it'll last longer than you will! ... Read more

The Porter-Cable 3812 10-inch portable table saw is equally athome at the work site or on the workbench in your garage. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Happy Camper
I received my saw about 6 weeks ago and other than the lousy packing or I should say the lack of it everything has been A OK. I checked all settings and they were right on the money. Its a lot quieter than my old craftsman, which I will give to my son in law.I have ripped 1 pc of maple, some plywood and several 2x4 s.I bought the 3812 without the stand as I had one that I made. Paid 355.00 for it on amazon. They better start filling the box with more foam,as the letters I have read all complain about the damage to their saws. Mine had a 2 inch hole in one end but no damage.Bob,Upstate N.Y.

5-0 out of 5 stars great table saw and good value
I purchased the Porter-Cable 3812 with the folding stand and within 30 minutes of the box arriving at my house, had it setup and cutting wood. The stand is very stable and bolts to the base of the saw providing good support even on uneven surfaces. The saw rips through heavy stock with little hesitation. The sawdust is expelled out the back and it was easy to rig a PVC elbow to direct the shavings into a bin.The safety guard does not flip out of the way but it does have a spring steel retaining clip that provides for quick and easy removal of the unit. The outfeed support is a worthwhile addition to provide more room for material to be fed to the blade. The stock blade is adequate but a new Freud 50 tooth combo blade will provide a worthwhile upgrade. At $355 including the stand and shipping, the saw is a good value for the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Compromise of Features vs Price
I bought this as a refurbished model when I took up woodworking about two years ago. There is a very practical advantage to a benchtop saw -- build a rolling cabinet that you can mount this on and you get all that storage below. This saw takes a 6" dado blade and you can hook a shop vac up to the dust port. These are very useful features for a saw this size. Sure, it doesn't have the fence or the power of a high-end cabinet saw but I use it to rip 2x4 red oak with no problem. It's a quality tool with more power than you might expect. ... Read more

This is a quiet, hard-working drill that feels good in hand, thanks to Porter-Cable's ergonomic design. There's onboard storage for two bits, and an electric brake brings the chuck to a nearly immediate stop. The battery charges up as fast as lightning, and it retains its power for a lot longer than you'd expect for such a powerful drill. A nice plus: the battery releases with the click of a button and slides effortlessly off the back of the tool. The two-speed gearshift offers 0 to 450 rpm in low and up to 1,450 rpm in high. Add to that its 20 clutch settings (just rotate the front collar to adjust the torque setting for whatever material you're drilling into) and solid lockup setting and you're good to go. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money...
I bought the driver and saw kit and the hammer drill kit. In the first year I replaced the drill/drivers three times...while under warranty. The saw worked well and the flashlight was the best part of this kit. Now it is a couple years old and the batteries are dead and at $90 each I am not replacing them. I bought Hitachi this time with a five year warranty. I wasted $600 on the Porter Cable junk.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely love it
It is the most used portable tool in my house. It's kinda heavy after a while, but the power and usefulness overcome that big time. After many projects, it still works flawlessly like day one. There is nothing I hold back on this tool.

2-0 out of 5 stars burned
I purchased the drill a few months ago and all was amazing. A little bit of a screamer but whatever. No big deal really. But now I am on my 3RD CHARGER and have to buy yet another battery!!!!! The power of this drill is great but ..., chargers and batteries are not cheap. At least to me they aren't. Too bad you can't combine DeWalt chargers with the Porter Cable drill. Then heaven would truly be on earth. If you buy one, make sure you have the extra money to buy replacement parts. Lates. ... Read more

    1-0 out of 5 stars WARNING:Design changed!
This used to be a great little product.I had an old one that worked just fine until I broke it by accident. But when I bought a new one, I couldn't believe what they'd done - they've switched out the double-head nails for flat heads and there are no guide bushings like before.AND, the new flathead nails just barely clear the template thickness; nowhere near enough bite to hold it to the jamb while routing! How many thousandths of a cent did they save with this with this blockhead move?Rule #1: if it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT.

4-0 out of 5 stars Versatile but cheezy construction
Right out of the box, the thin plastic "ears" on the adjustable size bar snapped off!Pretty disappointing for a Porter-Cable tool. But on the good side, the template actually mortises 3 hinge types, not 2 as advertised:5/8" radius, square (using a corner chisel), AND 1/4" (which is not advertised). It turns out that the installed bearing on the mortise router bit perfectly accomodates a 1/4" hinge and I don't know why that important feature is not promoted.Realize that this tool is for the occasional use and not for production. On balance though, it's a good one to have in your tool bag.

4-0 out of 5 stars not bad for the price
bought this unit used it several times with no problems except the bit dulled quickly purchased carbide version of same router bit am quite happy. I don't hang doors every day so this is sufficient. However if I did I would want to have an all metal one either PC or Bosch. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

There are many reasons to recommend Porter-Cable's well-constructed 2-1/2-inch, 15-gauge angle finish nailer. For starters, there's an easy-to-adjust depth-of-drive wheel that lets you modify the gun's countersink to the task (switching from pine, say, to oak). There's also a quick-release nosepiece, which makes clearing out jams a snap, and a conveniently angled aluminum magazine with a reinforced steel guide rail. (Some users have complained of unintentional double-firing with the standard trigger; if this is a problem [ours worked great, no misfires of any kind], you can always request a restrictive-fire trigger--which requires releasing the trigger between firings--by calling Porter-Cable at 800-321-9443. Porter-Cable will send you one free of charge.) We used this nailer to trim out windows and install a roomful of crown molding; the angled magazine, of course, makes this gun much easier to maneuver than straight-magazine models in these sorts of applications. The DA250AK weighs more than some of its competitors, but it's also significantly less expensive. --Jon Groebner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Worthwhile Purchase
Have had this gun for four years, and had no problens with it's performance. As a professional woodworker it gets a lot of use.my only qualm is the rubber tip. While it protects the surface you are nailing, it easily slips of the end and after tht is easily lost.Ther are times where taking it off (rough construction) is a bonus, it lives in place the majority of the time.It has never jamed, it drives commandingly and the adjustable depth of drive tip makes it a snap to consistently set the nails when changing from dense hardwoods to softwoods. If you aren't carfful it is possible to double dribe a nail, or drive two nails in advertently. The newer model of this gun has solved this problem. It is a good buy and a great gun

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Finish Nailer
I have been working with this gun for a year now.I work with pinesideing a lot. There is not a better gun out there. The depth ajustment is very accurate.I have the trigger that only lets you fire once so I have never had a double fire.I highly recommend this gun and trigger.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Gun
As a professional house-builder I am VERY impressed with this gun.It shoots through the hardest oak with no problem.Like all pneumatic nail guns, it can be touchy in the hands of someone who doesn't know how to use it. All nail guns will "double shoot" if not handled properly. My only advise would be to practice until you are comfortable using the gun, or stick to a hammer. ... Read more

This shear works great for installing fiber cement.I used it in conjunction with a fiber cement saw to install about 30 squares worth of siding on my home. The only function that it is not really good for is to trim a small amount off of an edge. That is where the saw comes in.It also produces very little dust. ... I actually have two of these saws at my disposal and one of them is great, the other i have had trouble with the quick change mechanism. Both saws have lots of power and can tackle any project they are assigned to.They have no problem cutting fiberglass or metal with the correct blades. My only gripe is that the quick change on one saw will not unlock sometimes and when you finally get the blade in it, it doesnt lock:it can be a little finicky.Power to spare and then some- however porter could also work on some better in-box blade storage for longer blades. The milwaukee sawzall seems to have it all down pat- after all they are the original manufacturer of reciprocating saws.

4-0 out of 5 stars Plenty Of power.....Watch Out Milwaukee!!
    Hello All,

I purchased this unit as a B-day gift for my brother who is a plumber. For years he's used the old standard, a Milwaukee Sawzall All.( As I have myself) Now that he has this new Tiger Saw, he's changed his tune as to who rules the roost. This saw has plenty of power to cut through the toughest of cast iron pipe. The size to weight ratio is good, and the unit feels very comfortable in the hand. The variable speed is smooth without being jerky as some saws are. If I had one gripe about this saw it would be this, it only comes with 1 blade!!!! COME-ON PORTE CABLE, even Milwaukee gives you a VARIETY PACK of blades with the saw. Oh, and the blade that DOES come with the saw is for cutting wood, not pipe which is what my plumber brother deals in all day long.

This saw would have gotten 5 stars from me if only Porte Cable had included a few different blades with it. So, if you are like I, a Milwaukee fan true and blue, you might find yourself switching to a new team called Porte Cable.

If Porter-Cable asked us, we'd tell them to rename thisworkhorse, because calling it just a finishing sander doesn't do itjustice. Of course, it does a remarkable job at higher grits as afinishing sander, leaving no swirl marks. But stick an adhesive 80 griton this puppy, and you also have an aggressive stock remover. Thereason a random orbit sander, and this one in particular, is such agreat choice is because instead of simply rotating, the round head alsojiggles--to use a highly technical term--eliminating thosedisappointing swirl marks, which seem to only show their ugly selvesafter the finish has been applied. But Porter-Cable's Quicksand hasreally captured our fancy because of its power. The dust-collectionsystem on the Quicksand receives a gold star from us. It's compact andout of the way, but more importantly, it's efficient. Five holes in thehead and adhesive discs draw sawdust up into the collection cup. Thecollection canister on this model hangs on tight even in hard suctioncircumstances, and doesn't want to pop off the way canisters on somesanders do. There's also a pad control feature that slows the 12,000rpm to 400 or fewer when the user lifts the head away from the worksurface, reducing the risk of gouging. The tool is comfortable to holdeither at the top or around the housing--when doing a big job, switchbetween the two positions and you shouldn't feel any fatigue. Finally, for people trying to decide between this model and Porter-Cable's 333sander, the only real difference is in what type of sanding discs theyuse. This model uses adhesive-backed sanding discs, and the model 333uses hook and loop discs. Other than that, they're essentially the samemachine, and whichever you prefer, we think you'll be happy with theresults. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little tool
For the price this tool is just about impossible to beat. I have 30 years working wood, I own a PC334 and I really like it. In fact I'm going to buy a second one, this one I own is 10 years old.

If you can't find PSA at "HomeDepo", buy (not by) the 5 hole PSA pads on line, lots of places to get PSA pads and most places are very inexpensive, including here. If the sticky wears out before the grit does (don't know how this happens unless it's a really tiny project)use it around a wood or foam block, or just fold it up and use it for hand sanding.

2-0 out of 5 stars Where is the sand paper
After reading reviews on the poor quality of the hook and loop model 333, I settled on the adhesives back model 334. The local hardware store and the home depot don't carry the 5" 5 whole paper. The only place to buy the sanding disk is here on amazon.com.Porter cable didn't supply a device for punching holes in the whole less paper. I guess I could by a paper whole punch and make my own holes. To do again I would by the model that uses standard ¼ sheet paper and the unit also comes with a paper punch. The manufacture recommends not to leave the paper stuck to the pad for long periods of time. You can't take the same disk on and off to many times. The best part of this model is the suction created from the spinning for the dust collection. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

When Porter-Cable recently reintroduced this popular planer, professionals everywhere rejoiced. It is widely regarded as the most solid, reliable, and effective hand planer on the market, and we heartily agree. While other tools boast speeds between 12,000 and 15,000 rpm, the Porta-Plane's beefy 7 amp motor runs at 22,000 rpm. Porter-Cable combines that power with a spiral-blade cutterhead that shaves the wood rather than chopping at it the way a straight blade does, producing smoother finished edges than those produced by other power planes. This model has a solid and true stainless-steel bed and integral fence, which bevels from 15 to 90 degrees. The price may seem pretty steep compared to other hand planers on the market, but in this instance you definitely get what you pay for. For pros that expect to do a whole lot of door trimming and hanging, there is no better tool available. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

If you plain on hanging doors for a living, or already do so.buy this planer.it will last forever.with the finger lever you can adjust the height as you plane to help follow high and low spots.

for 3% bevels it is perfect.one other reviewer mentioned about beveling a block to help set.great idea.but it only takes a few minutes or less to adjust bevel.

I have owned it for 2 years (since 5 2003) and have hung over 300 doors.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Better Palne for Doors.
Over the years I have tried lots of different ways to fit doors and have not really been satisfied with the end result until after buying this plane and the book "Door Hangers Handbook".The Spiral bit makes all the difference compared to my other straiht blade plane. The cuts are smooth and easy to control. The depth of cut lever is very easy to adjust. The Bevel fence feels real solid compared to other planes I've used.I bevel the sides of the doors to 3 degrees so I just cut a block of wood using my miter saw that has a 90 and 93/87 degree faces. This way I can set the plane to the bevel and back to 90 in a couple of seconds and it is super accurate. One last thing, this plane is much quieter than I thought it would be.I'm actually looking forward to doing more doors with it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Doors etc
My wife bought me this machine 25 years ago. I still have the plane, and the wife. It is (the plane) a sweet machine. It is primarily for resizing doors, but I have used it for a jointer of sorts with good success. If you are a door man/person (sorry) its the one for you. I assume it still comes with a carbide blade. If you want to surface plane, you want something else, but for up to about 2.5 inches this is the one.

Hope this helps. JA ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Good tool, but I would not recommend it for pro use.
I'm a contractor and I use this Porter Cable Brad Nailer for kitchen cabinet remodeling and refacing 4-5 days a week all year around. This is my first Porter Cable Nailer and probably the last one (I had many different brands in a past and I still have one Craftsman nailer). After just a half of a year of use this Porter Cable Nailer started to fail when I used 5/8" brad nails. It misfires and jams the nails. I've tried to find why and found that inside nail slides are a little bit wider than they must be and 5/8" nails move up during the use of Nailer and this causes the problem. I've tried many different brands of 5/8" nails, but result still the same. It still works OK with other tipe of nails. Poor design!!! Will buy Makita....

5-0 out of 5 stars Super tool, reliable, and does a fine job
I bought the BN125A at the same time that I bought the 16 gauge. At the time I saw the price on the 18 and figured, it was a good idea to have both. At a later date, I discovered the BN200A, and that was an 18 gauge brad nailer as well, and accepted the 3/4" to 2" size nails. The BN125A accepts 5/8" to 1 1/4". For only a few dollars more, I thought I should have gotten the 200A. After all, when was I going to need a 5/8" size brad instead of a 3/4" one. Then I read a great book on cabinet making, and the author stated that he saves a lot of time, and doesn't need a million clamps, by putting a 5/8" brad in the back side of the raised panel joint between the rail and stile, then frees up his clamps for the next one. The glue sets up without movement because of the twin 5/8" brad holding them together. Most raised panels are made from 3/4" stock, so a 3/4" brad would show on the face. The brad goes in with a little countersink, so it is too large for that purpose. I guess it is a good example of, instead of saying yeah this, and boo that, say, "I like them both" Now I am starting to wonder when I will ever need an 18 gauge brad that is 2" long. Sure enough I will come across a need at some point. Maybe when I can, I will pick up one of those too.
The tool is lightweight, feels good in your hands, and is well built. Definitely does what it is supposed to do, and does it well.

    Editorial Review

A great combination for the serious do-it-yourselfer or professional, Porter-Cable's 19.2-volt Quad Pack combo kit comes with four of the most popular and useful portable tools in the Porter-Cable line. First, as with many of the Porter-Cable combo kits, this one comes with two ni-cad rechargeable batteries and a diagnostic charger with an LED warning system. The batteries are interchangeable so they'll work with other Porter-Cable 19.2-volt tools. Each charges in less then an hour and provides plenty of run time for most uses. The batteries have a unique slide-on loading system in the base of each tool that makes battery attachment extremely tight and almost impervious to wear. The 19.2-volt hammer drill has a 1/2-inch keyless chuck that's easy to adjust and reacts quickly to the trigger. It offers 390 inch-pounds of maximum torque, a 20-position clutch, and a two-speed gearbox that does up to 1,500 rotations per minute and 19,500 beats per minute. This is plenty of power for any home-based project, and generally plenty of power for professionals. It's relatively lightweight and, in our opinion, as solid as any drill/driver we've used. The Saw Boss 19.2-volt cordless circular saw uses a 6-inch blade, turns up to 3,250 rpm, and makes up to 100 crosscuts on two-by-four material on a single charge. There's an easy-to-adjust guide plate for both bevel and depth of cut. The 19.2-volt Tiger Saw offers a Quik-Change blade clamp, a 1-inch stroke, and variable speed up to 2,900 strokes per minute. The grips are well designed and easy to hold. We were impressed with the solid feel and smooth cut of the Saw Boss and Tiger Saw, and quickly found ourselves reaching for these cordless tools more often than their corded counterparts. Finally, the flashlight offers a 110-degree swiveling head and heavy-duty xenon bulb and comes with an extra bulb. --Jonathon Tudor ... Read more

    5-0 out of 5 stars A rancher's boon
More often than not, a 110VAC outlet will be unavailable where the work is on a ranch. I have owned AEG and Makita battery powered tools. When this Porter Cable set went on sale, I figured it was time to give it a go.

For serious work, I'll grab the Milwaukee walking saw, hammer drill, etc. and toil on a project within reach of an extension cord. Repairing a feed bin or setting H's and fence corners, this Porter-Cable kit fits the bill perfectly.

Two years have passed since that day of purchase and I am still a satisfied customer. Considering the hours of useage, one of the batteries does take quite some time to recharge.

Shopping for powercells may induce stickershock. It appears all are seemingly over costly; but for the convenience, I'm still hooked. Milwaukee and Porter-Cable remain my first choices in powertools with Makita in third place.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money...
Porter Cable's 19.2 Volt line has major flaws.

4-0 out of 5 stars planer
I have owned this planer for a couple of years, and it has been very helpful when I get in a tight situation and just need to take a little wood off.It can also take a deep cut in the wood, removing a large amount of wood with one pass.It is a light weight tool, and very powerful.

1-0 out of 5 stars porter cable blew it
I,m a long-time finish carpenter and have used the Dewalt and Makita planners as well as this contraption. This one's a dud. What's with pushing a button to pull the trigger? That's fine for Harry Homeowner, but odd angle starts are next to impossible. And that little ridge at the top of the handle is annoying and painful. Perhaps I missed something when rabbeting with the Dewalt, but with the PC you are advised to move the blades; what a pain. The Dewalt has a strange, not altogether likeable foot on the base for setting the thing down while the motor spins to a stop.No such feature on the PC.It is also poorly balanced. The Dewalt was user-friendly right from the box. If it weren't the boss's tool and the only one on the job I'd send the PC back. The only strong point is that the fence slot seems more durable than the cheezy holes in the thin plastic housing found in the Dewalt. Hold out for the door plane, is my advice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Solid well built tool
I've owned this tool now for about 3-months and have used it a quite a bit.I bought it to plane out bowed wall and ceiling studs prior to installing sheetrock (which is pretty tough duty because the wood is old, dry and hard).

Even pressing down hard at a full 1/8" depth, this unit cuts through wood and knots like a beaver. The motor keeps the blades spinning at full speed without bogging down.

Keep in mind that using a plane (manual or power) requires some practice and skill to perfect the outcome. You just don't slap it down on the wood and start cutting. Most attachments such as fences and guides will help provide some alignment assistance, but you'll still need to develop the skill.Once you get the hang of it, you'll find that it is a real time saver and provides far superior results over other triming, chiseling and planing methods.

Recommendations: * High Power - this is a must-have feature, anything less will be a source of endless frustration. * Heavy Weight - this is one of those times when you don't want light weight. You will need the mass to maintain constant travel and to keep the tool down on the work. * Parts Availability - Power planers are not very popular, so don't buy some goofy off-brand.You may need parts later such as replacement blades. * Safe(ty)... - Eye and ear protection is an absolute must with these tools. Not only do wood chips fly everywhere, they make a loud high pitched screech during operation. ... If you're looking for a reliable random-orbit sander capable of fast, even material removal without bogging down, this sander is a great choice. Porter-Cable's electronic, variable-speed, 3.7 amp motor provides 2,500 to 6,000 orbits per minute. The right-angled gearing system allows it to maintain consistent speeds even when you're pressing it down into the work. For a sander capable of fast material removal, this product offers relatively little vibration, and the large barrel grip allows users to hold and operate the tool without excessive hand fatigue. While this sander uses hook-and-loop paper--making it easy and reliable to change paper--an adhesive-paper pad is also available. 1-0 out of 5 stars Died after very little use
I had this thing for awhile before I really started to use it.I bought it based on the reviews I read here.I used it to sand spackling off plaster walls, about 5 rooms worth. Then the motor ground to a buzzing halt.

The variable speed dial became nearly impossible to move toward the end of its short life.

I'll buy another sander, but it sure won't be a Porter Cable.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sander is good, but the switches are terrible!
I own/operate a log home restoration company. After blasting a home, we hand sand the entire exterior using random orbit sanders.I've used the Porter Cable primarily for the last year.I've gone through 6 sanders during this time and each one has had the exact same failure.....the on/off switch.I've torn them apart and cleaned them, but if you look at the switch design, it is incredibly flimsy and poorly designed. The motor is great and the machine is great if they would FIX THE *&^*&%@ SWITCH!I'm currently looking hard for another brand to replace these faulty sanders.

This magnesium-coil framing nailer from Porter-Cable is a rugged, impressively lightweight piece of equipment, ideal for framers who want the capacity that a coil system offers. The magnesium housing is several pounds lighter than regular models but still offers the durability you'd expect from a job site nailer. Since coil nailers are commonly used for repetitious tasks, a lighter tool is a big plus--especially if you're going to wield it for an entire eight-hour day. Also, its handle is ergonomically designed, and its rubber grip is slip-resistant and comfortable to hold. The nailer has an easy-to-use depth-of-drive adjustment; a powerful, high-performance motor with adjustable exhaust; a refined feed mechanism that includes double cams and guides; and quick-adjust for all nail lengths. This Porter-Cable model accepts standard 15-degree wire-collated coil framing nails from 1-1/2 to 3-1/2 inches. The kit comes with a 1/4-inch NPT air inlet and 1/4-inch male quick coupler (with dust cover), oil for the nailer, wrenches, and an operating manual. --Jonathon Tudor ... Read more

The only negative thing I have to say about the tool, isn't even about the tool itself, but the availability of nails. The tool manufacturer claims the gun accepts 1-1/2" to 3-1/2" nails. However, the availability of nails less than 2-3/8" is nonexistent.

A variety of nail sizes would make this a good all around nailer, but with the limited type of nails available, its use is limited.Want to put up a fence using inch-and-a-half galvanized nails? You'll have to use a different nailer.

For nails less than 2-3/8", you'll have to use a roofing nailer or other stick nailer. As a homeowner, I'd rather not have to have 4-5 nailers in my arsenal if I can get by with 2 or 3.

Again, it's an excellent tool, but with the limited nails available for this gun, think twice about making the purchase. If all you do is house-type framing, then this is the tool for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars It gets the job done
This is one of the best framing nailers for the job. Out of the box it looks a little large but is very light. I have used this tool for hours on framing. also was used a few times for aquickly needed work bench on the job. This nailer is a quick change on nail size and ready to go again. A home owner could load this tool on Sunday and shoot it all week long,it is a real sweetheart. I

5-0 out of 5 stars Replaced Bostitch N86C
I had to have a nailer to use while my N86C was being repaired.
The coil350 filled the bill. In addition you can change it easily between sequential trip and bump trip.

Bostitch brand coil nails worked perfectly.

I would recommend this tool to anyone needing a powerful framing nailer.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Handy Little Machine
Even though it is really for the homeowner, we have used this washer in a commercial application, for a total of about 250 hours over a six month period. It was reliable and worked well. Plenty of power for anything you would do around the house. Recently the pressure has begun to drop off, so I'm thinking the pump is wearing out. If that is it's useful life, that would be fine for the average homeowner using it occasionally. We used it to wash down about 10,000 square feet of concrete every morning. Now I'm buying a bigger unit.

5-0 out of 5 stars no lemon here
Most of the reviews I read regarding porter cables model 2401 sugested it was junk. I found exactly the opposite. Mine works like a champ all parts were in the box, instructions were clear and concise, I have no complaints. However I know that there
are lemons out there, and I believe that most of the reviews written about products are from dissatisfied buyers, therefore these reviews dont mean a hoot. Im sure there are alot more happy buyers than not. Sorry to you guys that got a lemon, or just dont have any mechanical ability better luck next time

    1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy
After using my 2401 power washer for ONLY three minutes, oil and water started puking from the pump oil fill; the motor quit running. After contacting Porter Cable, I was given the address of two places that "supposedly" work on this machine.I took it to the first place on their list. After three weeks, I went to get the washer. Then I was informed that they put a new seal kit in the pump, but the motor wouldn't start; they ONLY work on the pump, not the Honda motor. After driving 60 miles to a place that Porter Cable told me works on Honda motors, I'm informed that in fact, they don't; that Honda makes it too hard to be a service center. When I looked up this unit and the warranty, nothing was said about having separate warranties on the pump and the motor. All in all, I would NEVER, EVER buy something like this again........what a pain. ... Editorial Review

Imagine the feel of 385 inch-pounds of torque in compact package. That's what this great drill/driver delivers in the lock-up position, powered by a 12-volt battery. Because of the two-speed gearbox, you've got drill speed ranges of 0 to 425 rpm and 0 to 1,300 rpm. Its 1/2-inch chuck is keyless, and the 20-position clutch takes care of drilling into all kinds of material. You'll never regret a Porter-Cable purchase; their drills are among the best on the market. But here's one more reason to go with this model if you're in the market for a cordless drill/driver: the interchangeable Grip-to-Fit handle inserts. Having grappled with tools handles that were too big to control, we think this system is a great idea. There are manly sized grips included, of course, but for the woman woodworker or cabinetmaker, welcome to a delight--small grips! You just can't go wrong with this. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Cruising on a good name, now lousy
VERY disappointed in this drill. After a few months, the forward - reverse switch stuck!I took it apart and was able to fix after removing a busted piece of plastic.

Then a few months later -- out of warranty the CHARGER -- that's right -- the CHARGER died!

    I gave this garbage away.pathetic.

5-0 out of 5 stars happy with porter-cable
I've had this drill for several months and am loving it. Not one single time have I regretted purchasing it. It has met or exceeded my expectations every time I've used it. I was impressed enough by the quality of this tool that when I needed (okay, 'wanted') a nail gun, I bought PC for that as well.

My wife and I bought a new house, definitely a fixer upper, earlier this year and have been working on it since.Right now we're almost done renovating the kitchen, soup to nuts. We've used the PC drill/driver for everything we've done in the house. Having the two battery packs and the fast charger is great. We've never managed to drain the second one before the first one is fully recharged.

One reviewer said that the drill was unusable after 2 years. I guess I can update this review in another 18 months and let you know... but right now, my impression is that this is a very high quality tool that you won't regret purchasing.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed Customer
I purchased a 12v cordless drill/driver 2 years ago. One of the batteries that came with the package began to fail after a year. The motor failed at the 2 year mark. The motor replacement cost was $80.00, almost as much as I paid for the drill. After 2 years for light use, I used the drill for around the house projects, I had an unusable product. Needless to say I wouldn't buy another Porter Cable drill and I wouldn't recommend this drill to anyone. I expected this drill to last longer than 2 years. ... Read more
